It's been an intense but awesome week.

Oh, and my lunchtime cooking class today! Working with my group of little people and I have new kids joining, so I'm up to 8 kids, aged 4-10 years old. We'll be cooking for 30.

On the menu: Lentil balls (which the parents are already making crude jokes about, in a good way) a coconut/cumin laced carrot puree to dip them in, and quick marinated cucumbers with some sweet and tangy sauce.

Scheduled some days away from the office ... overjoyed with cooler weather ... looking forward to working on some wood projects.

I wish I could have two 24 hours in each day. During the work week, half of me would go to the job I have now as a software developer - I love it and do not mind going to work at all. My only real complaint is some of the lazy people who procrastinate.

The other half of me would go to a different job doing wood-working/construction type things.

I have zero art talents and have so much admiration for people who have that. I believe the only reason I passed Art class in college was because my instructor felt sorry for me and liked me. I cannot even draw a stick figure. With both software engineering and woodworking, you can build anything you can "think up" with the only limitations being the cost of resources. I keep my wood-working projects scaled down to little fun stuff. It is relaxing, my beloved dogs and I are outside together doing family time ... and it keeps me out of trouble.

Kay Ryan from San Jose California was the U.S. Poet Laureate a couple years back. I love her work and flirted shamelessly with her when she came through NYC to read a while back. I'm always happy when a woman, especially an older woman, and I have to admit, an older butch, gets a big prize.

I was beside myself when Wyslawa Szymborska got the Nobel Prize for Literature. She's not a lesbian, that's not what I'm saying. She was a brilliant brilliant old woman who wrote with passion till she died last February.

I have always loved Judy Grahn, too, from way way back. Another butch poet. I wish she were getting the California Poet Laureate at the very least and she deserves the U.S. one, IMO but I'm glad this other person (TBA!) is getting it now. Twenty years ago I saw Judy Grahn read somewhere and had her sign her books for me and she kept saying, Don't I know you from somewhere? I was levitating off the ground.

I love those old dyke poets.

Monday. I'm looking forward to Monday. Two other counselors and myself will go into work for the morning to deliver christmas stockings to inmates. After that, we will just hang around and nibble on some treats and offer fresh brew coffee to any inmates who come down to the office.

Christmas can be a difficult time for me because every elder in my family has died. Often, it's a matter of putting on a happy face for others, which suckes even more.

After I sobered up 5 years ago in October and was released from rehab, I realized Christmas had to be vastly different so I bought a small pink tree and really toned down the traditions. That was a great first step.

This year, I've had a fabulous fun time with my clients/inmates at the prison. My caseload is 38 direct and 35 more indirect and we have had a great and energetic time in a decoration contest. They've built a fantastic fireplace, sleigh and reindeer and put up stockings for me and my co-counselor with letters we get to read on Monday.

The energy has been so spirited and fun. Who would imagine the joy of Christmas in a prison? Wow. It makes me think next year I should considering hanging out at the food kitchen on Christmas Day and see what transpires.

Tomorrow's Christmas dinner. It started out small, intimate, just my little but growing family...about 5 of us...all of a sudden, there are others joining us and I can't help but feel happy about it (now at 13 and counting)...there's always plenty of food and goodies, I'm thinking about these friends who don't have anyone to spend their Christmas with. It's been about two years since we'd last done this--(invited those who didn't have anyone or anywhere to go)--and I'm so looking forward to the time together and the day itself.

i am ready to get 2012 out of here..it was a yr of change some for the good, some for the bad,lots of lessons learned.

second Christmas with my daughter the goose I do not get her for Christmas the EX does I get her for thanksgiving I wish I could have her in this magical time of waking us up to run see what Santa brought before it is gone but we look at it as our week of Christmas I will go get her right after I get off shift at 6am then we will get donuts and coco and go home to wake Desd and have our OWN special Christmas Santa left her presents under the tree in her room I know my Goose will be so excited

I'm looking forward to working out tonight. I love my new gym and solid, smooth-feeling new stationary weight machines and elliptical trainers.

I'm looking forward to getting home after that, all blissed out from the endorphins, and relaxing with a cup of tea.

I'm looking forward to going out for drinks tomorrow night with a couple of my best girlfriends that I don't see all that often anymore, since one moved to the L.A. and the other had a baby.

I don't know what else i'm looking forward to.

For me it helps to just focus on the immediate future.

This trip has been more than I'd expected. Being with my huge family sharing this sorrowful time has been a huge gift of blessings and love and reminded me how much I have to be grateful about. I'm so looking forward to getting on the road tomorrow.

Only downside to that is, I'll be in a hotel room alone for New Years Eve...but hey, at least I'll be in Texas, right where I belong.

My beautiful fiancee, who has some mad cookin' skillz, is cooking New Years Day dinner of roast beef, "One Eyed Peas" (as Pop calls 'em) with rice (aka "Hoppin' John", Southern style), cooked cabbage, sweet corn, corn bread and beverages (sweet tea). :eating::heartbeat:
