The Mrs. and I are headed out in the morning for a road trip to Ohio to visit a very dear friend of mine from my Marine Corps days. She and I have been friends since we first met in the fall of 1979, when we were both serving at Camp Pendleton, CA. Now, she and her wife are living on the lake in Ohio and having a great time being retired (like my Mrs. and myself). :awww:
I also just bought a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 BigHorn 4X4 truck (Night Edition) with the 5.7 Hemi eTorque engine, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how it is on the road. If it's like my old truck that I traded in (2011 Ram 1500 BigHorn), it will be a wonderful ride and very enjoyable on the road.:heartbeat:
Happy 4th, everyone!!! Be safe and stay cool!!! :winky:

I'm looking forward to planning a trip to Dollywood! The boy and I love Disneyworld, but the last time we went we spent over $6000. Dollywood is only 4 hours from our house and it is much cheaper.
Why Dollywood? Well, one of those groups who rank such things recently ranked all the theme parks in the U.S. and Dollywood was ranked number 1. (Disney's top theme park was the Magic Kingdom, and it ranked around 33.) I took a brief look around the internet and it seems like a place we would like. Miss Dolly apparently knows what she's doing.
I'm thinking sometime in the early summer of 2025!

It's been almost entirely all work and no play (other than my crew team time) for months now. This week I have some play time. My daughter asked me to go see some Irish Punk/Rock music with her on Wednesday so we are doing that. Then on Thursday I think I'm actually going to skip crew to go see a Grateful Dead band I really like that is playing near me. Both outside shows and the weather is supposed to be great.

A "social mixer" with the local LGBTQ group. I had no idea we even had a local social group (and I mean small town local, not Atlanta). It's at a pub on the square. I realized I don't have any Pride t-shirts that fit me any more, so I ordered a new one. I'll probably eat before I go and walk around with a glass of wine, unless they have some good craft beer. If people are eating, I'll order an app. I thought about taking some LGBTQ stickers I have and handing them out, but that's probably more of a 2nd meeting type thing to do. My new t-shirt will be a good conversation starter; it says, "Live life like a book Florida would ban" in Pride colors.

Well, it doesn't roll around until May, but I just received the program and registration form for the Ohio Genealogical Society's annual conference up at Cedar Point. It's five days of classes and luncheon meetings with other, more experienced, genealogists. Many other topics besides Ohio roots (which I have), too. I went this year and had a ball, so next year I should be even more ready to roll. I love the exhibition and vendor hall, too.

I'll be running the white elephant gift exchange for my family gathering. I have a few surprises planned, plus I plan to do the kind of white elephant where everybody draws a number. Then number 1 can pick any wrapped gift and open it. Next, number 2 can pick any wrapped gift, open it, and decide to keep it or they can trade it with number 1 for their gift. Number 3 can trade with either 1 or 2, and so on. Should be fun; this group has never done a white elephant exchange together before.
Our gathering is going to be in a little town in a restaurant where they shot some of the scenes for Vampire Diaries. They have specialty drinks of course, and the bartender will regale us with trivia. There is also a museum in the basement. Should be lots of fun.

It's finally starting to warm up. The storm we had last weekend left 2-3 inches of ice on everything and then the temps stayed between 4-20 degrees all week so there wan't enough salt in the world to melt the ice. The next week is all between 30-45 degrees which means, not only will the ice melt, but I can get outside for walks again. Everyone has been so cooped up. I could have lived with the wall paper that was in the bathroom but it was 20 years old and was coming apart at the seems. Was time for an update.
Update: On today's agenda is having the kitchen cabinets painted brown instead of blue.
The bathroom looks great. I smile each time I go in there, but the blue in the kitchen didn't work at all.
My wonderful painter painted one kitchen cabinet blue so I could see if I liked it. I didn't and I had overnight to come up with a new color. That's damn near impossible for me. I like sitting on colors for days or longer before deciding. At the last minute I took a chance and asked for the brown paint I used on the bathroom cabinets
Lucky me. The brown works well and brings a warmth to the kitchen. The blue was glaring and stark. It almost looked comical.
Glad for the changes in today's agenda.
