Okie doki ... swept mopped kitchen floor. Dishes, w/d/pawy, fed fur babies, cleaned litter boxes, cleared up messy roomie area on front porch, checked on little house, pulled broken limbs off yard to curb, repeatedly open /closed door for cats, took big dog for walk, made bed put laundry away, put out paint to begin painting inside of cupboards AGAIN. Roomie didn't like beautiful pale blue, now she wants teal. So two more days worth of painting.
:pacman:
I need to start charging for my work.

Yep. Hope to start my projects today. :readfineprint:

Well my neighbor Fred gave me two wooden umbrellas. They looked pretty rough so I removed the fabric, washed it, and painted the wooden umbrellas both bright white. Looking really sharp now. One of them is broken but an easy fix. Think I will put a set of solar Xmas lights on each umbrella. Would be sooooo cute!!

Found the mystery glass table tops. Put one in the macrame hanger ala 1969... looks so bohemian.

As soon as I cool off I'll put the umbrellas back together. They are a very simple design. Maybe some day I will attempt to make one.

Getting some smaller projects done today. Need a nap soon.:byebye:

Okay. Feeling rested.

Painted gargoyle ... metal handles for guest bath cabinet ... lids for outside torches ... big garden frog (base coat)... under kitchen sink.. will tile at a later date... am thinking gorgeous faux marble ... ya I dream big... Lol.

Think I will go crazy on the inside of doors. I need to take photos before I finish! ! I'm having fun painting. Convinced Roomie to paint the fronts of back and front doors just installed a lovely teal.. they are FREEKIN' GORGEOUS! !!

and from the street, ,....... Even MORE FREEKIN' GORGEOUS! !!

Deciding on basket style on cabinet doors. Thinking bright plastic. Or dollar tree metal tiny buckets .. plastic won't rust .. can jazz up the metal ... hummm.

Wicker is too pretty to hide under cabinet. We'll see. Will look through yard sale goodies stash.

Under kitchen sink.. will tile at a later date... am thinking gorgeous faux marble ... ya I dream big... Lol. Scored huge 18 inch tiles for under sink for only 2.25 each.

Deciding on basket style on cabinet doors. Thinking bright plastic. Or dollar tree metal tiny buckets .. plastic won't rust .. can jazz up the metal ... hummm. Settled on plastic

Started painting louvered doors. Will attempt to hang them later this afternoon. Am so tired today .. need to rest. :tea:

Well... the breeze knocked over all my freshly painted doors last night. So repainted first thing. Screwed in three of 12 hinges on driver's side. Went to attach door and discovered it's a two person job. But I have no other half to help. So it's Mother of invention time. I have metal braces from my umbrella project. Will attach them to stablize the hinges. And voila'.... I can do it myself!

So all you peeps that dream of your own zombie apocalypse mobile, YES. IT IS DOABLE.

I've made some really awesome accomplishments lately, that I'm quite proud of, especially given my current barriers to affordable and appropriate health care.

I'm a fiercely independent woman, one not accustomed to "leaning on or relying on" any one else. Just because I deal with a painful disability doesn't mean I'm less independent or that I "need to depend" on others. I'm very accustomed to doing things for myself...just with barriers to appropriate heath care for such a complex issue (needing a Rheumatologist/ Neurologist/ and Ortho) and the messed-up "ObamaCare" that is FAR FROM Affordable...I haven't been able to address issues for over 2 years.

About a year ago, I got frustrated and fed up which made me think "just let nature take it's course; I'm done fighting "the system".

But something happened this summer that inspired me to start fighting again. For several months my partner had tried to convince me to move in with them and promised me they would get me medical care. I wasn't comfortable with that, so they said they would "move us to an east coast state that allowed same sex marriage", since late February they frequently said "I'm gonna marry you, and put you on my insurance!"... I still wasn't comfortable with that, maybe because of my fierce independence and I want to do stuff for myself. ...so this summer they (unknowingly) inspired me to start fighting the system again and improve my quality of life. While driving me to the airport on my last day of our visit, they said "You know you're not as independent as you like to think." (They said this as if they were angry with me and disappointed in me) ....that one statement made me realize how much I had allowed my poor health to rob me of things that are an important part of my identity....

My accomplishment that I'm so proud of: On my own, without getting married before I was ready, without "loading a U-haul" to move to a totally different State before I was comfortable, and without insurance of any kind, I have been approved at a special health care facility that's VERY HARD to get into because they only take 15-20 new patients per year..and many people are on a waiting list for 2 years...
Through this facility, in just 2 visits, they have set up all the appointments with several specialist and will also be addressing the recently diagnosed diabetes. I feel such accomplishment because I had given up trying and given up hope that I would find a doctor.

What I have got done "fighting the system" and getting the ball rolling with the right people just since June/July makes me very proud that I didn't need to depend on anyone else. Their statement about my independence really hit home and made me examine what was important to me.

Every day is a new day to make an accomplishment towards my quality of life and goals.

(Sorry for the ramble, but wanted to explain why this is important to me)

Well let's start with last night.

Repainted the kitchen cupboards on the inside a medium teal ... aka turquoise. Yep. Roomie wants the bottom cabinets painted bright yellow. Top cabinets white. Inside cabinets the teal. Then she is putting in new counters and possibly doing a very nice teal back splash. Appliances are black. Not sure what's going on the floor. Hoping for porcelain tile.

Now of course when you open the cupboard doors it's dark and gloomy. Not a expected result. Well let me clarify... I knew it would be dark and gloomy. Roomie is not an artist or interior designer. Oh well. Not my home. Preferred the pale sky blue I painted them the first time. But. Not my home. Not my call.

So will finish caulking the cupboards this morning and do a little touch up work. Today I will paint all the bottom cupboard after I take some Motrin. Soreness prevention. :rubberducky:

But my moust proud moment...

I walked FOUR WHOLE MILES up and back Edisto Beach!!! I hiked at a fast pace up to the cove where the best shells are carrying a large, backpack style camera case and a shell bucket WITHOUT PAIN...by the time I made it to the curve of the cove, my bucket was FILLED with incredible spiral shaped shells, about TEN POUNDS....I took a break to sit and sort my favorites and take pictures.... felt so rejuvenated and refreshed!! Soooo peaceful and happy!!....

With my extra heavy bucket, I didn't hike so fast back, but I made good time only stopping long enough to switch my bucket to a different side (it started to feel like 40 pounds)...still without pain in my back, legs or SI joints!! ...only a little winded and arms a bit tired from gear...got back to my friends with a HUGE smile on my face, and sooooo tickled with the special treasure trove I found!!

Had a late lunch...hiked back out to the pier to take three videos of the crashing surf fora sweet friend...loved walking in the soothing, crystal clear waves as I took a video of my sandy sexy femme feet as the wind whipped my skirt around my ankles....sooo very content that I could do this without assistance walking or losing my balance and NO FEAR of the water!! Only intense pleasure and contentment!

Now we're driving back to the Angel Tree to get pictures of the snow white squirrel for my favorite buddy. ...still no pain, only slightly tired muscles.

Anyone reading this may go BIG DEAL...that's ok... In more than two years, I haven't been able to walk more than a few yards without great difficulty or pain or assistance ...and doing steps ir uneven ground has been misery....

Today was like a new beginning for me!!!

Sorry for my typos in my big post above... I was trying to type as Blade was driving the truck over bumpy Edisto roads on our way with several other friends to the Angel Tree...as soon as we got there, I was requested to climb over the tailgate to stand in the back with the camera as we drove down a dirt road with all of us on "look out" for the snow white squirrel. ...we found it!! Everyone so excited, but at nearly sunset, it jumped thu the trees and over the road so fast, I couldn't focus the camera fast enough....by the time I got back to my post...it was too late to edit.

What else did I accomplish today?? Riding Shotgun and climbing over tall tailgates in a FULL LENGTH SKIRT without showing my ass!! ...lol...

My GF and I made major strides today in cleaning out my garage to ready my house for sale.

We took two truckloads of furniture, clothing, etc., over to Goodwill and one load to Out of The Closet.

I am embarrassed to say that I found some things in my garage that 1) I forgot that I had and 2) that I thought I lost during my move when I bought my house almost 15 years ago.

Since I did not even know that I still had them: they were donated.

I finally feel that we are making progress!

So. Cut ten 9 1/2" 1x3's... screwed them into supports. Added thin strips at top. Now going it attach fabric ...sandwich insulation between wall and fabric .... If my energy holds up...will use self drilling screws to attach hangers to ceiling for soft storage.

I cleaned the entry outside ... just the entry... finished painting welcome sign ...hung it. Tried to polish brass numbers .... 20+ years of tarnish .... almost got it all.... washed wall...ran shop vac.

It's still early .. fed goober's.... cleaned litter boxes ... made breakfast .... did dishes .. tidyed kitchen ....cleaned up hairball ... let Sophie out then in ... bitched about the trash still being in the kitchen ... I did ask nicely .... oh well.... ssdd....

I got stuff done yesterday. Sanded bamboo table ... the holder for the mirror on my antique dresser... why don't peeps take care of nice things? Do they feel unworthy of nice things? Not good enough? I have those thoughts sometimes ... do you? Funny how they creep into your inner monologue. Where do they come from? Why do we believe them? They have no authority. No validity.

Today is beautiful again. Think I will spend most of it outside. :rrose:

managed to wake up on time despite forgetting to set my alarm (correctly)

got through a hellish 8 hour shift...with only a 30 minute break

got home and FINALLY cleaned the upper cabinets in the kitchen...and I also scrubbed the ceiling and backsplash and part of the walls.. I just can't help myself...

remembered to go out for kitten food...and me food

resisted the urge to get out of my car and tell off some dude who kept flashing his brights on me....that burns my ass...

got back and fed the animals, and me

put some stuff up in the now clean cabinets...

picked damn near a peck of peppers and threw them in the dehydrator (best.gift.ever!) the house smells sooo good...

showered and took the kitty in to get some steam...she has a bad cold but is improving by the day :)

Humm...
cleaned /sanded /painted 6 kitchen drawers (4 turquoise 2 white)
Scrubbed hardware so they will be clean and shiney again
Cooked lunch
Usual critter routine
4 loads laundry
cleaned fridge

Still gotta find perfect contact paper liner. Found fabulous black and white print... but as usual can't remember what store I was at... I know I know... lol

Going to do something artsy to the drawers .... will try to remember to photograph my finished project. So fun!!!

The white drawers are painted with a oil based enamel. Because I'm doing the fronts. They are behind a cabinet door, but i want the fronts to be like the white top cabinets. Bright clean and washable.

The turquoise drawers are painted with acrylic flat water based paint. I'm just doing the sides in /outside. I will finish them with poly acrylic gloss so they will be washable. Plus to protect my artwork.

Went to the Laundromat to do up my work clothes etal

Perused the thrift store while my wash was going; found the perfect toothbrush holder for the bathroom...plus two books...ahem

Got my groceries for the week...

Remembered to gas up my car so that I don't have to do it in the morning

Put the rest of the picked peppers in the dehydrator. I have FOUR MORE TRAYS!! (I did two already..)

My usual housewife duties.... cooking cleaning pets...
Blather blab blab....

Then.... I decided to start making next year's summer outfits. So far have cut out one top and one jumper. I have an apron dress pattern somewhere that I want to do next.

I'm doing some custom details on top. Adding yo yos to the bodice, kind of a peek-a-boo effect. If I have enough I will add some to the hem.

The jumper is going to have contrasting pockets and applique dragonflies. Just something to throw on when going to the beach or doing yard work..

There are lots of scraps left... will make more yoyos and....?

Simplicity patterns were on sale at Joanne's for 99¢ so I got cute vintage top patterns from the 50's and 70's. Kathy, my favorite waitress at Waffle House got all excited when I showed her... she made the same tops back in the 70's!!!!

Must have been popular. :cheer:

Woke up after lunchtime! Result!

Phoned the UK dude I needed to phone about the bullying behaviour I've been subjected to over the last weeks on a (US based) recovery site whilst attending women's meetings. Part of their problem is that they (the women of the groups) think I should have one of the binary gender options on my profile; I don't have a gender ticked because there isn't an option for 'other' folks. They see my picture, a lovely one too I might add ;), and seem to automatically assume that I'm a cis-male. Although last time I was asked if I was MtF :|

It's all an intolerant brouhaha. A bunch of ignorant women will not drive me away from something which ultimately enhances my recovery.

The lovely man I spoke with was as accepting and sympathetic as I have encountered with a cis-male. After we'd talked and he knew the people he needed to 'have a talk with' he asked, "what would you like in the gender options, other or gender-neutral". Good man! Gender neutral is ace but other will do thankyouverymuch.

Watch this space! [so to speak]

it was a blistering 40 degrees today, so i put on my swimming trunks and started up the lawn mower for the last mulching of the season.

my neighbors had to come over and ask why the hell am i making so much racket on a sunday. (hey they should be used to it, it was after 11) to add (my neighbors and i adore each another and banter in all good fun.)

being this is the last time for this season, i run out all the fuel from the mower and put it away until spring.

naturally i have forgotten my mower can go on endlessly with a full tank. i mulched. i mulched some more. 3 hours later, finally out of gas ((my mower too)) i could call it a day.

I am thinking that for me the question is what do I NEED to accomplish today and what did I actually accomplish today.

Need to get the rest of my spring syllabi ready for those teaching them.

did one

keep responding to email: doing

do laundry: in the process

clean: I think that goes on back burner, lol

complete 4 other syllabi: all partially done and need to be finished by tomorrow.

Today I looked at three apartments with a broker.

One of them was huge; three capacious bedrooms and a gargantuan common living space and long, rambling urban views—and a balcony!

It's in my price range, but the competition is fierce. We're making an offer, and I am having rushes of happy fantasies; the kind of communal living I could create with stabile, interesting artists such as myself :) gay for sure, male or female—that's the life for me!

I told the realtor, This is what I like. Get me more like this! Big space. Big light. Big view. Ambitious, sketchy neighborhoods are fine. Empty warehouses are fine. What fun I could have!

That's what I accomplished today, I opened a big door!

I had a ton of small project boards I have been scavenging for awhile. They all have the most annoying staples in each end. Finally I said f-it. I gathered all of them up and put in the truck bed. This was early morning. Found a place where the noise from my 20 volt cordless circular saw would not be troublesome to anyone. Pulled my stools off the truck, set up perfect and cut all those stapled ends off. Normally I remove staples but there were too many.

Late afternoon I made my neighbor an exterior cover for where the dryer blows the hot air out from the side of his house. His was messed up. I had hardware cloth, plenty of wood and screws ... so there you go. He was so pleased and couldn't believe I did that for him. He is not gay. He does not strike me the type who owns any tools or fixes things.

DRYER VENT!!! I could not think of what it is called until this moment and it frumped me. LOL!

OMG what a freakin' day. I shudder to think of the typos I left in the trail behind me.

I interviewed two graphic novelists for a web article. They are awesome! So calm and articulate, and I LOVE their work. Then I transcribed about half the video, and did a bunch of other work stuff too mundane to mention.

Then I raced home because a woman is coming over in a few minutes with her Persian kitten for me to babysit in my apartment for a couple weeks. I did a quick clean of the apartment, got out the kitty toys, the memory-foam pads I put out for her to sleep on, the kitty tunnel, the bowls, the litter box, etc. I'm SO excited to have that little muffin all to myself LOL

Lots of food later, we have:

Roasted four bags of edamame
Portioned out two bags of goldfish crackers, grapes and jalapeno popcorn to snack (15-30g) size
Portioned out and froze almost 4 lbs of hamburger
Cooked four chicken breasts in the crock pot to shred them for enchiladas for the next two days
Diced up two heads of romaine and two heads of iceburg lettuce for salads

It was actually yesterday but....

Went to my endo appointment just for him to literally confirm my diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. It was quick and short because aside from that little glitch I am extremely healthy according to my doctors.

Then we went to Specialtys because I am addicted to their salads. Oh and we went to the pet store because the cats need more toys and we needed medication for the fish.

Then it was off to the magical land of Ikea. We spent a good 3 hours there! We though it was going to be a short trip and boy where we wrong. We walked out with an amazing new bed frame that gets delivered on Sunday though and a new tv stand and nightstands and lamps and a book case and organization stuff!

From there we went to bevmo....because if you are going to build any Ikea furniture you need to be drinking. A box full of liquor later we left to get something to eat only to end up at Target after eat...that place is my kryptonite.

After it was all said and done...we were out of the house for 13 hours!

This morning's rain delayed my plans a bit...as I didn't have a rain coat to mess around with while I finished setting up my camp wash tub/fish cleaning station and start my breakfast...

When the sun finally broke thru, I walked dogs, arranged supplies where I wanted them, took a LONG hot shower, had breakfast, trouble shot (as "shooted" isn't a word) some mechanical issues, then drove to town for a few things and to pick up my monthly supply of meds.

Today was my first day on a new program that helps uninsured, disabled individuals pay for meds....I HATE being on meds but am very thankful my care team are doing their best to improve my quality of life.
When I picked up the package with 4 'scripts, I had a sudden pleasurable feeling of accomplishment....because this time last year, I had given up hope of finding a good doctor, getting answers, and setting a care plan...and the thought of insurance or AFFORDABLE care made me have meltdowns as I knew I couldn't afford the new health care insurance. ...
So...since last fall (I think starting in September) I have gathered strength to fight the system (NO, I am not eligible for or on Medicaid)...and have set up an AMAZING care team.

Today's accomplishment was, without insurance or state assistance, I reduced my out of pocket expenses for my care down to $20...(total cost would have been $941.28...and sadly none of the RX are covered on Walmart's $4 plan)

This is a HUGE accomplishment for a person that had nearly lost or given up hope that things would get better.

The day is still early but so far I have made marinara sauce and fresh ravioli for my lunches next week. Potato and sausage for my breakfast tacos next week. Changed the bed sheets, working on laundry, and cleaning the house.

Cleaned out my fridge...my least favorite task..

Did dishes from said fridge cleaning

Did wash and hung it out to dry

Cleared out my room to make way for a new, comfy bed.

Washed sheets for said bed and made it up

Made myself 3 meals and did those dishes too

That's it thus far...

Packed up camp and brought the camper home

Went back to the lake and loaded the boat and brought it home.

Unloaded some stuff but not all of it. Maybe tomorrow

General care of the feathered peeps.
Gave myself a manicure and pedicure.
Sorted through my nail polish and threw out the gluey ones.
Soaked in a bubble bath.
Sat in the sunshine reading my book, for HOURS.
When the last rays were chased off by the shade I mowed the lawns, watered the pots, baskets and yesterday's planting. Tidied up then swept the drive and paths.
Set my alarm for tomorrow morning. Sigh...

Had a dysfunctional meeting.
Had another meeting.
Had a meeting to discuss fixing the dysfunction of the first meeting.
Met with staff to discuss why I'm in meetings all the time and less available.
Had a meeting with families.
Tried to sort piles of printouts and charts into a cohesive collection
Had a meeting
Fixed three paperwork "emergencies"
Met to discuss why we can't get any project done.
Met to discuss why we're so burned out and staff is angry.
Apologized to staff for having to call it a day.

For quite awhile I have been focusing on my education and taking care of my parents. Yesterday out of the blue I had an idea for starting a non-profit business which will utilize my skills and education. Today I have concretized a plan for making that happen. I think I may be on to something big. I need to do more research though. I am actually very excited because it will enable me to work from home and maybe take on board a few very close friends who have the skills needed to go along on this ride. That is what I have accomplished today. Yes it is in thoughts and pen and paper, but this has the potential to change my life entirely.

Mowed and trimmed around the house.
Washed and dried the laundry.
Cleaned the house.

And made vacation plans with my sweetheart. :)
