Cleared out space around my recumbent bike with some help. And cleaned out a box 😆 and I took a shower, that is a major project with my healing knee. I put together a sprayer and filled it up for use. That's about it. I really didn't do much but it felt good to feel like doing something

Yesterday's accomplishments:

Made really good omelettes with broccoli from our garden in them.
Harvested a bunch of our greens that were on their second round so I pulled them and re-seeded for the next round.
Built up a fence to go around our beans and cantaloupe because a groundhog discovered them and went to town.
Cooked ahead for the week: Baked haddock, chicken covered in rosemary and thyme from the garden, veggie loaded quiche, and shrimp curry.
Took out the trash.

Today is going to be over 90 degrees and I work in a swamp so I'm glad I got all of that done yesterday because today will be about staying upright until I don't have to anymore.

With all this handwashing and sanitizing, my nails are definitely taking a beating! Brittle. Peeling. I've tried nail hardeners, that starts to peel off within 36 hours. Short, filed..nope still peeling.

Today I got my manicuring skills out. It's been about 20 years since I dabbled in acrylics. Well, let's just say left hand, very well executed! The right hand, I'll have to hone in on more practice. Lol. Let's see if this is the solution I need.

Psst...the polish makes them look much better.

* Slept in and had a lazy late morning breakfast and yummy cup of herbal tea.

* Trimmed and colored my hair.

* Later on today, catch up on some household chores, wash and dry some laundry, maybe go for a late afternoon drive.

* Mostly, I have taken good care of me. Best plan ever, if you ask me.

I worked today: it was a long day, but the weather was beautiful, even though it was terribly warm.

And that is an accomplishment, being able to work and spend the better part of my day at work.

My work is like my home. It's my home away from home.

Just today, I saw someone I haven't seen since last February or was it in mid March? Mask or no mask couldn't disguise the joy in our voices or in the laughter we shared.

I worked today and then I went to the doctor's office. This is the first time since I was in the hospital back in May that I have walked with my rollator, except for a trip to the DMV. Those marble floors in the hospital office building sure are pretty, but they are awfully hard on my knee and ankle. My shoulders took a beating too, because I was leaning heavily on the rollator. However, I made it without a wheelchair! Also, I got good news from the doctor. And when I got home, there was a wonderful surprise in my mailbox.

My Monday morning started with going to see my Ortho, getting 3 very painful cortisone shots in my neck and shoulder...

Then my day went totally wild from there...
To hardware store for a bale of Fescue for the goat.
Other chores in town.
Lunch at Sonic.
Bought my new "Wheelies" (walker).
Headed home about 1pm then busted ass to get the camper ready for my trip tomorrow.
Back to town to Lowe's for a set of "louvered door tracks" for the camper.
Rush home.
More gathering gear, building a special set of steps for the side door of my new handicap accessible camper, tried to hitch camper to truck but ran into a problem with the crank on the jack (called neighbor for help, had to wait an hour), did kitchen chores and 2 loads of laundry, tended to dogs, met with pet sitter for goat and kitties, cleaned up my mess from building steps, heated up leftovers for a late dinner, made sure my roommate had his bad knee wrapped in ice, cleaned 2 dog crates, mowed part of an acre of grass (the rest can wait till next week), during the Lowe's trip I also went to pet store for dog food, and a bunch of other junk my tired brain can't recall.
Finally got a shower just after midnight and laid down about 1:45am.

Damn.

Laundry, hand washing face masks, washing my hair, unloading and loading the dishwasher, going through stuff and organizing, boxing up old stuff, vacuuming, putting a couple bags for donation aside, trash and recycling are out...actually recycling went out twice today...and I drank more water and ate less sweets today, which is something else I'm trying to work on now. Made lists, took some inventory, organized pantry, other storage areas. I make it a habit to try and purchase a little extra of the household products I use on a regular basis as well as make sure I have some non-perishable foods on hand so if something like this happens I don't have to go out, fight crowds, wind up standing in some bread line, or even worse. I might choose to go out, purchase things to make myself more comfortable, the meals fresher, less repetitive but I don't have to. That brings a little peace of mind. If hard times can't be avoided then I try and learn from them so hopefully the next time I'll be a little better prepared than I was the time before. It's one thing to image what you'll need during these type of situations and a completely different thing altogether to know as a result of having lived through them. So today was just one of those kind of no fun but know it needs done anyway kind of days. I hate doing it when I'm doing it but later when, inevitably, something like this comes along I'll be glad I got up off my duff and did it anyway back when I didn't want to.

Yesterday:

Made a couple gallons of Salsa. Canned some and froze the rest.
Chopped up a bunch of tomatoes to vacuum seal and freeze for winter treats.
Made zoodles of zucchini and yellow squash.
Cooked our first garden pumpkin and made soup and muffins out of it.
We also went out to the farm where we get our meat and it was so nice out we sat out for a while watching the chickens and turkeys play. They were all being silly and having fun.

Then it was stuff like laundry, litter boxes, and taking out the trash.

I organized about a third of my bedroom. It's been awhile, so I had stuff piled everywhere. I did the first third yesterday, and tomorrow is for the last third.

There's a huge pile of stuff at my curb. I heard on some news program today (can't recall which) that a lot of people are getting rid of clutter due to staying at home during COVID-19. They discussed how clutter tends to be generational - people from the depression area never throw out anything that might be remotely useful some day; even broken things that could possibly be repaired. The Boomer generation feels a sense of obligation to store memorabilia - for a generation that doesn't want it. The latest generations just don't want clutter, period. I'm Gen X, so I guess at heart I really want to get rid of clutter, but I was raised by people with depression-era values. I have plenty of junk that might be useful "someday", or that I could sell in a yard sale, or that somebody else might be able to use. I have recently decided, though, that if I don't just get it out of the house, it's never going anywhere, and it will just be left here for my relatives to eventually deal with. Therefore, it's going on the curb, where it will eventually wind up in a landfill - which makes me feel rather guilty. But at least I will feel guilty in a house where I have more room to walk than just paths between all the piles of junk.

So, that's what I accomplished today: decluttering, self-guiltifying, and rationalization.

Funny, Georgia mentions what Boomers do with their stuff. As I'm sorting and releasing things to pack or not to pack, it makes sense now why I've held onto the things I have. Memorabilia. Things to look back on. Why do I have all my report cards? All my year books? All my patches from girl scouts? Well today, I looked over things and said, this was nice. Goodbye tap shoes from my Art Linkletter dancing days. Goodbye bible I received from my grandmother that said to me, from her. Nothing else was in that book. Not one thing highlighted or note. I'll donate that but I'm keeping her childhood bible. It's a picture bible from 1908. ...oh my..over a hundred years old.

I have no kids to pass on things to. It's me. Why hold on to things? I'm going to use the milk glass dishes more often.

I do have one doll left from my bride doll collection. But, it's not worth much, I checked on Ebay. She will get donated. I will, however, keep the doll my granddad brought home from France during WWII. I'm sure one of my neices will appreciate her.

Boomers...holding on to things to reminiscence. Well.....
....thats nice....
....goodbye things

I've been purging this weekend as well! I'm a boomer and a cancer which makes me a prime candidate for the typical "hoarder" but I'm far from that!

I've left family heirlooms in the care of my nephew's wife. From time to time she asks if I want her to send me things but I know it's wise for them to remain in her care. More than likely my grandniece, her daughter, will inherit them & can do as she pleases with them.

My week-end purge has been of clothes and shoes, that have seen better days, shredded medical and tax documents, and books. I usually don't keep books so I've decided it's time to send Can You Ever Forgive Me, A Man Called Ove, and about a dozen or so other books off to new homes via the used bookstore here in town!

A good purge always makes me feel tons lighter...:hangloose:

Sounds like a lot of us have purge fever. Marie Kondo would be proud! Today, I found a way to get more usable floor space with the exact same amount of stuff. No purging but definitely a smarter usage of what I have. I'm going to call that a win.

Work was fast and furious today as most half days are. I vacuumed some when I got home and I talked with someone about buying a desk I'm selling as well. I'm hoping to get a load of laundry done and a nice, hot shower before day's end. Other than that, I'm pretty much kaput for the night.

Today I decided to hell with conventional I was I never all that great at it anyway even when I was so decades latter why start now. So to that end I spent today off and on cleaning, rearranging, moving furniture around. Working to make this a place that, though maybe not show case, just works better for me. I was hoping to be done by tonight but here I am, it's just barely past nine and I don't have any more energy left to put into it. I told myself I was just going to take a break but now that I've stopped there's no getting that momentum back. It hurts too much just sitting here to stand up and think about giving it the old college try. After I finish this coffee that's kept me going I'm going to clear just enough space on the couch for Monte and I to fit and hang out while I watch television and hopefully have enough oomph left to make it through, forget about an entire movie, just one full episode of a television program.

Did you ever start on one simple project and wind up doing a whole bunch of stuff you never had any intention of doing because once you get going one thing leads to the next leads to another? Well that's how it's been for me the past few days but finally I'm done, everything is very organized, completely inventoried, clean and things look good.

I never thought I'd have canned goods, household cleaning products and other bulk items in the bedroom here but it really works. Eventually I'll get tall freestanding cabinets so it won't look so - Hey everybody I've got half my kitchen pantry and other staples in the bedroom on shelves. For right now though it's not it's bad and it's only a few steps away to retrieve things.

Also it's much easier now to see what I have, what I need, to reach for things without all the hassle I had to go through before. Now I've got room for that small dining table and freezer in the breakfast nook area. Which I've really wanted but where to put it. So if I have to walk to the bedroom to get that can of tomato sauce or pack of TP or whatever it's worth it.

I don't know how comfortable I'd feel about having an overnight guest with this crazy set up though. Hey I have an idea, let's go do this in the fallout shelter. Well hopefully she'll have a place we can go. Hotels can get expensive. Well If not I dated someone once who lived in a shelter while I was busy living in a nunnery and we figured it out. I was in my 20's though, probably not as fun in your 50's.

Did you ever start on one simple project and wind up doing a whole bunch of stuff you never had any intention of doing because once you get going one thing leads to the next leads to another?

Welcome to my brain. All day, every day.

I filled up two pickup truck loads of junk to be hauled to the curb.

I just received a brochure for College HUNKS (https://www.collegehunkshaulingjunk.com/providence/?providenceb&utm_campaign=ri-providence-401&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=chair10-brand&L=true&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqfz6BRD8ARIsAIXQCf2p8SwCVzqdRDQvBzxU LICb9jRzY2n0Mo32ocfSqRzQEa1S-lO41f0aAuxPEALw_wcB). Want me to send one over?

As for myself, I made it through the day. Every time I turned around, some other problem/issue/challenge asserted itself. Some small, some big plus one customer who I fear is falling deeper and deeper into psychosis.

She is paranoid and that's always been that way as long as I've known her and has always been directed at people outside my work environment but now she's suspicious of myself and my coworker. If she only knew how little we cared about the things that she does, she would feel tons better. In the meantime, I'm playing therapist but you can't say the word therapist because it's a trigger for a meltdown, which happens often.

I'm trying not to lose my sh*t on this woman because she's causing my coworker to gnaw her cuticles and nails down to bloody stumps from anxiety. I've spent a lot of time building my coworker up and I'm about to tear my customer a new one for dragging my girl down like that.

So, yeah. I made it though the day without researching RI's version of the Baker Act. That's a win.

Tonight there is a frost warning so today we figured we'd better bring in items we had in the garage like, extra soda, bottle water, etc etc! It took us a good chunk of the day with figuring out where to put it all once we got it into the house! All I can say is we must of hit one hell of a sale on soda, it's lined up like cord wood! Same with bottled water, but I know the sale price is always the same 2/$5.

While Mary stored the stuff in the house, I stayed in the garage, cut up boxes, swept, hauled cardboard out to the recycle bin. Then I re-arranged and took inventory of paper toweling, t-paper, etc etc. That garage resembles a mini Costco...LOL

I found time to get my weekly household chores done; then I went on a 13 mile bicycle ride; then I made a big batch of coconut milk-mixed berry protein shake drinks (for the work week); and made an appt with our CPA to file an amended tax return, since the new stimulus package allows for tax credit on last years unemployment and stimulus funds. It is a bummer that I have to dish out another C-note for CPA fees, but at least I will get a better tax refund once our CPA files my amended return.

I got a bunch of things I am going to work on today, including a months-long crafting project I start working on before summer gets underway, because it is an art project I make for each person in my life that I interact with at work or in my private life. It takes months to get it done, so it's ready by the time the late fall holiday season comes around.

I will most likely go for a bicycle ride today too, because the weather will be warmer than it has been, since last year.

And, then sometime late today, I will go pick up my Honey from his chemo appt and ferry us to his house for some R&R time together.

So far, not nearly as much as I thought I would have done by now but I made an executive decision and slept a huge chunk of the morning. I've been shorting myself of sleep for so long, it felt entirely alien but nice.

The first load of laundry is finished and the bed has been remade and the bedroom put back into a semblance of order. The second load of laundry is in the dryer now. The fur babies have been taken care of and a load of trash and recycling have been take out of the house as well. The fridge had a once over in terms of clearing old things out and the floors have been swept and all the carpets except the craft room have been vacuumed. The big cat tree had a once over with the vacuum nozzle as well. I talked to a friend while I ate brunch and have putzed around online, playing checkers and making a pleasure purchase while doing research for an upgrade purchase. I've also moved a couple things around the kitchen in the name of organization.

I have a list as long as my arm, which is clearly not getting finished today but at this moment, I'm okay with that. I know I'll get to several more of the smaller items on the list but I'm pretty sure the big furniture moving is not happening.

Took Milo out in the car.
Started the laundry.
Cleaned the house.
Made cinnamon rolls and hash browns.
Ordered a Target same day delivery.
Wiped down everything from CVS and Target.
Colored my hair.
Later I will finish the laundry and make dinner.

* Slept in (I slept over ten hours).

* Had a lovely breakfast with my Love, Rico.

* Went shopping for a few items at the grocery store (I made Chipolte salads with baby spinach leaves, tempeh browned in evoo, sliced avocado and ruby red Cherub tomatoes, topped with corn kernels, wild brown rice and quinoa, and baby black beans, for our lunches this week).

* Painted my fingernails after I manicured my own natural nails.

* Ironed a few scarves, to go with certain things I will wear this week at work.

* Oh, and I cleaned out our sock drawers so I can go on a sock shopping spree. I will keep the odd socks I find to make cute sock puppets for Christmas toys to give to children as keep sake gifts, this coming holiday season.

All boxes in the femme cave are unpacked, broke down, stacked in the garage ready to be tossed out.

I still have boxes in the garage to unpack but will do that next spring or summer after I get some shelves built in the garage.

My walls are still bare, but I’m no longer staring at boxes.

It may not sound like much but Steve and his son came by to take away the empty boxes and move some large pieces of furniturea again—everything is now in its place (as long as I don’t change my mind again).

Also, cute Tony* (a neighbor) came by and removed some doors I had on a closet in the bedroom. Have decided to remove the doors and hang curtains.

I’m a happy camper and am ready to start adding artwork to the walls. I can do some on my own and will get Rick to help me with some others.

Things could be worse.

I've been taking stock of things shuffling, rearranging, working on inventory since this morning. With food out of the way I'm taking a look at other basic necessities. Food wasn't too bad. Food = Happy and filling, thinking about tasty times ahead. Laundry soap, dish detergent, other cleaning supplies, household necessities which just point to drudgery and endless amounts of it under bitter circumstances, in deplorable conditions, or even worse. I guess if shit hits the fan it will prove to have been worth the effort but for now – yuck!

I made a good dinner of salmon patties and veggies. Made me proud considering my current situation with bulging lumbar disks that make certain chores very painful.

I walked the dogs outside a few times, surprised at how chilly it was outside.

I accomplished reaching out to a local friend I haven't heard from since December. We both go different directions at times, her work is consuming and my Lupus tends to make me antisocial. It's an accomplishment for me to reach out and communicate. We set up lunch for next week.

[I]Other than mucking out the stalls, dropping hay and readying for the night feeding it has been phone work/computer work. I called to have an appliance repair on the stackable washer. I woke up this morning and decided I was going to tackle my Comcast/Infinity problem. The Roku is ok but I am set in my ways and miss my normal TV routine. After about an hour of pure frustration and anger I ended up with associate Scott and he should be cloned. He was extremely personable and I think family, had worked for Comcast for 24 years and was extremely knowledgable. I had my TV back up and running shortly and did not need to replace my TV box. I told him I don't kiss boys but if he were in my living room he would get one!

From there it was off to the stalls to feed and then muck and clean. I thought they would be much worse then they were because they went in early yesterday.

After that I decided the truck needs winter tires so I went to a local tire shop and bought four new winter and studded tires.

On the way home I stopped and bought cracked corn for the horses, a new Carhartt vest for me and 2 bales of shavings.

When I got home I had to figure out water for the horses. The hose line had frozen (I will deal with that later) but their buckets needed filled for tonight.
I ended up loading buckets into the back of my truck, filling them in the truck and then driving down to the barn. Other then having soaking wet coat and pants (in 30 degree weather) by the time I got done, the stall buckets were full and I should be covered for tomorrow night also. As the horses were supposed to be at their new facilities by now, I never bought a new trough and will now have to do this a few more times before I am in the clear.

I stopped on the way to the house and cut a little more wood for tonights fire which is now all aflame and bumping up the room temp about 10 degrees.

nhplowboi
12-22-2022, 08:11 PM
Some minor storm prep:

Got the woodstove cleaned out and set up a fire to go but may wait until tomorrow night to light it. It is comfortable right now and the temp is supposed to go up into the 50's tomorrow. It will be good to go when the bottom drops out tomorrow night.

A little extra wood got brought in to dry out in case the wood stove becomes my only source of heat.

The bathtub was filled for toilet flushing in case the power goes out.

Layed a rope line down the hill to the barn in case it ices up as bad as they say it might.

Dropped extra hay to the stalls so I won't be dealing with it the next few days.

Took the plow truck down to the boys and they topped off the reservoir. The plow has a piston leak and it had run so low I could barely get the plow to move. I did make an appointment for service at the Fisher dealership but they can't get to it until 01/04/23.

Relocated a couple buckets of salted sand for easy access in case they are going to be needed. Depending on how this storm rolls out I may have to go to the town garage tomorrow and pick up more.

Brought my battery jump-pack into the house so it can charge up. It is handy to charge other things like a cell phone or computer and all of those things are also charging right now.

I made white beans and leeks from scratch. Turned out horrible and it was a lot of hard work. My grandmother made it look effortless. Well I guess in a world with no fast food and a whole bunch of mouths to feed this would be a simple recipe, a very simple one. Yet still I botched it. I don't have her recipe she never used them. She didn't use measuring cups, spoons, scales, timers, meat thermometers or anything like that either. So to learn how to make it the way she did she'd have to be here to show me. Well I won't give up. I can see how it would be better if next time I did this or didn't do that so live and learn. I'll just have to keep at it till I get it right. She wouldn't want me to quit and hey at least I didn't burn it, that's off to a pretty good start right?

It was a very very busy day in the garden. It was a very cool but sunny 72° weather in northeast Ohio. So I took advantage of it. I had two of my garden helpers come out. One welded, sanded and painted a gorgeous vintage metal round Picnic table set. I’ve had it for years and been waiting to have this done and finally it got accomplished today!
And then myself, and my other helper put together nine raised beds. Then lined them with weed fabric. Once in the ground, we raised cattle panels and turn them into trellises between the beds. This was an incredible amount of work and I swear I am done buying raised beds!

I was able to get the HOA to reduce the amount of water used to irrigate my lawn thereby reducing my water bill. My water bill for the 2022 summer months was $450. I almost had a baby when I saw that bill last year.

The HOA board blew me off when I brought it to their attention. Told me about inflation and city requirements for nice lawns. That didn't go over well with me.

I went to the Department of Public Works and spoke with the Superintendent. He also thought it a was an outrageous amount for my size lot and he didn’t like it.

He told me what to do, what to say, what to expect from my HOA board and what to expect from his department. If necessary, he was willing to show me how to turn off the sprinkler system for my lot if I couldn’t get the HOA to turn it off when it rains. He told me to let them know that he was monitoring this situation (even though there was little that he could do since I signed a contract with the HOA when I purchased the condo). Still, he was hoping his name and department would carry some weight. It did.

I went back to the HOA board and got their full attention. I asked for a 50% reduction of water and got a 35% reduction. I asked for the watering schedule and got that, too. Again I asked for a map of the zones and sprinkler heads and this time I received it. They showed me how to turn off the sprinklers when it rains. They also replaced or repaired sprinklers that weren’t working properly. This summer’s bill was $281. The DPW Superintendent and I still think that’s high, but it’s a good start.

I’ll send a letter to the HOA board letting them know I appreciate the changes, the changes made a difference, and that I’d like to know of any future changes in the water schedule, zones, sprinkler heads, etc.

I'll drop off some donuts for the Superintendent and his team.

I've been moanin' and groanin' about the water situation since I moved here. So glad this battle is behind me, at least for now.

Then I browned them in a skillet with evoo; then cooked a batch of organic Italian semolina noodles and cooked from scratch, a creamy, cheesy Alfredo sauce and married it all together, for our evening meal. It was simply delicious. That’s what I did a few days ago.

2) buy a bunch of skin cream for my sweetie
3) find time to sit and enjoy the sunshine. ☀️😎
4) maybe find time to shop for our special holiday dinner and do some holiday cooking prep (pie, cranberry sauce, yummy mashed taters, basically oink out, lol :flyingpig: )

Not much, but I did come home with a new-to-me vacuum and now the air is cleaner inside the house (Dyson fan now).

Right now, I'm listening to a playlist of songs I liked from years ago.

Not just today because I've actually been lazy today. The past week I have cleaned my entire livingroom, dusted ever figurine shelf or anything else that could be cleaned or dusted. Cleaned off and dusted 4 cabinets/bookcases. Vacuum Vacuum Vacuum. Cleaned the ceiling fan. Loaded my new gun safe and also pit important papers in it. Did I mention dusted pictures. Lord I'm getting tired talking about it. Ima have to go back to work to rest

I pulled a Kelce and did a "two things at once" by getting both a flu and RSV shot. Got the shots at Wally so also picked up some groceries. While I was out and about I filled the car's gas tank (ouch) and grabbed some adult beverages for my tank. Oh and I did a load of laundry. I guess it was basically a day of adulting.

I worked the late shift today. Did I share that I fell at work a few days ago? I did. My hand is bruised up and thankfully no bones were broken. Got my doctor to reset my left hip. But I’m doing better. Don’t have an appetite lately, but maowed down on pistachios and had some Campbells “Cream of Mushroom” soup and heart shaped saltine type crackers. Now, because it’s late, I’m sipping on a Hot Buttered Rum.

Today I managed to hang a new mini blind and put my daybed together. For both I had only primitive tools (Allen wrench?? Why 😳)
I won’t say cussing didn’t occur….but I feel rather proud and strangely empowered. If I don’t end up on the floor in the middle of the night I’ll chalk this one up as a win!

This weekend I replaced the rug in my office. Was able to move everything out (and back in) on my own and didn't need my dolly. I took small trips with small loads (using a laundry basket (https://i5.walmartimages.com/seo/Sterilite-2-Bushel-Ultra-Laundry-Basket-Plastic-White_e47e1e2f-a549-4a13-aad3-fe11bb657619_1.a435580e729aed1433d6de21ce297d31.jp eg?odnHeight=2000&odnWidth=2000&odnBg=FFFFFF)) and I made sure I could easily get from room to room without breaking my neck. I started on Friday and ended today so it took three days, but I made it happen.

I also got a chance to do a bit of purging.

It looks soooo nice with the new area rug and was worth the effort.

I retrieved the holiday decorations from my basement yesterday and Today they are out and up including the tree with all her glorious adorun-ments ! Ms Sasha inspected every step of that process :dog:

In my travels up and down I noticed light switch plates: Who/what/where/why in the hell did all those go unclean in my 40 yrs living here? Need less to say: they ALL are cleaned and replaced (goodlord am I getting blind) :glasses:

Put a kroeger discounted ya-woo discounted chuck roast in the crock pot with carrots, celery, onions and red potatoes for dinner. Added a nice bottle :wine: and my weekend is complete.

Today I acquired many several things from marketplace for my new place. It was like a scavenger hunt. I found the most perfect cabinet for kitchen storage. And it was free!
Also took the steps necessary to enroll in the one pre req I need for a nursing program I’m applying to for September. It was literally down to the wire. One seat left in the class and I had to prove I had the pre requisite necessary for it. The online process is lengthy so I made the trek to my old college to get it done the old fashioned way.
Yet more organizing left to do. I can’t wait until my days off are actually relaxing….

Sometime before I go to bed I have to take a shower and wash my hair. Our family Christmas gathering is tomorrow, and if I wait until tomorrow to shower and wash my hair I will then be too tired to go to the party. Almost any kind of effort really wears me out these days. I have already picked out an outfit and accessories. All the presents are wrapped.

I made it to the dinner and had a great time. I did not fall down, I did not break down crying (not even when one of my gifts was a quilt with photos of all our beloved family members on it, including the dead ones). I made it home safely and climbed the stairs (Yay me!).

This morning started rough, but after lunch I accomplished taking my little dog to the vet, first day driving my truck any distance since surgery, stopped for gas, groceries and then several miles to an office to drop off special paperwork. Then 20 miles home. Made dinner, took care of dogs and my meds (I take 4 shots of insulin per day, Jardiance, Lyrica and meds for post op... it's hard for me to keep up with some days).
I'm thankful and proud that since November 20th, today was a good day relatively pain free and I managed not to totally exhaust myself.

Wow, I was not nearly as productive as Kenna, but I did find boxes to wrap all the Christmas presents in, and I did a bit of Christmas shopping for a few last minute things. I'm hoping I don't think of any more last minute things and that I'm done shopping. Oh, and I bought myself some shoes.

Golly where to begin:

Moving into a hastily vacated apartment that definitely lacked a woman’s touch.

I had to clean everything. I also had to pack up the remainder of the last tenants belongings to make room for my own things. Not cool. But I’ll have money taken off my rent.

I bought one last stocking stuffer - no, I didn't need it, but I think it will be fun. It is 10 tiny cans of Play-Doh. It will give us something to play with while we sit and watch Christmas movies.

I made a big pot of soup that will keep us fed until Christmas Day.

I looked up "Stollen" so I will know what it is when my friend brings me one she made. I hope it's good; her creations are sometimes hit or miss. No matter what, I will offer her a slice while we drink cafecitos and I will act like it's the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. Hopefully not much acting will be required.

I had a wee bit too much Jim Beam and ended up spilling some family secrets to the boy. He met more of them at the Christmas dinner a few days ago, so he had context. We laughed and laughed.

So far: I slept in and got up after I felt completely rested. I’ve also made a light breakfast of scrambled egg and veggie hash, and sipped on a cup of coffee. I’m getting ready to go to the gym and hope to swim to my hearts delight, then soak in the jacuzzi for a bit. I also plan to go for a bike ride if the rain lets up this afternoon.

- I cleaned the kitchen.

- I visited with a dear friend who came over for coffee, snacks and gifts.

- I baked some cookies for tomorrow.

- I absconded with the boy's Christmas stocking to make sure all the stocking stuffers would fit into it, and found the best packing arrangement.

- I selected a movie for this evening, A Christmas Wedding Tail. (It's about dogs.)

I got up super early to call AAA to have my car towed to the mechanic’s garage…. And then came home by bus.

I don’t plan to do much today except try to figure out what happened to my sleeping mask. If I’m lucky to find it, I might just take a nap this afternoon.

Feels good to do nothing.

Found out my car is okay and did not need the service recommended by manufacturer! I guess they replaced timing chain ten years ago, so it’s a huge relief to not spend a bunch of money for something my car doesn’t need. Yay!

I haven’t found my sleep mask, tho. *lol*

I did not accomplish the summit of the hike I was on. That hardly ever happens. But it was very very icy and slippery and the ice was melting, making it extra slippery. Our microspikes weren't even working to dig in or be safe over rolling rocks. About 1/4 mile from summit I told my buddy I didn't have a good feeling moving forward. It was a very steep rock scramble full of melting ice. She said, okay, and we turned back. I proceeded to slide (on my feet) town a steep embankment. I don't know how I stayed on my feet but I'm so glad I did because it was a sharp drop on my right. Somehow I skidded to a stop in some mud in front of a tree.

Then I accomplished a difficult conversation with my father about how him being home isn't working well and I'm worried for his safety and the safety of my mother. He depends on her to do everything for him when I'm not there and she can't sustain that. I don't know what he understands and comprehends. It's hard to know where the truth lays in what he told us he was capable of doing before he came home. Maybe he thought he cold do more but he's declining rapidly and it's not good. So, at least I got the conversation started.

Before the day is over, I will have moved my Mom's cedar chest down the hall, out of the closet. It's going to be behind my love seat. I'll be able to see it all the time😊😊

It was always in her room. I don't know what I'll put in it just yet. Maybe all the handknitted sweaters she made. I can't give those up💝💝💝

I have my grandmother's cedar hope chest in my bedroom. I've used it for various things over the years, but I've been meaning to put my winter sweaters in it. You've inspired me to get moving on that. I'll do it this evening.

I started out by doing wash and hanging it out to dry.

Brought a ton of recycling to the dump

Gave my car a much needed deep clean

During which I realized my back tires weren’t great, so had them replaced

Not my accomplishment but…… my landlord installed a beautiful new window in my apartment. I came home from doing all the things and found it done. He was even careful to take my plants out of the window…….

My small town has a program for seniors to work off a portion of their real estate taxes. Selection is made by lottery and I was lucky enough to win a slot this fiscal year. My assignment is working one-to-one with seniors who need help with technology. It’s very enjoyable.

That sounds like a great idea! I think I will suggest it to our town council rep. Do you have any idea how many resources it takes your town to run something like that? Better yet, could you provide me with a contact so I can get some details?

* * *

I did some dishes and cleaned the kitchen. But I spent most of the day looking at accessible bathroom fixtures and shower curtains. I'm getting grab bars in my bathroom, and part of that is taking out the glass shower doors and getting a shower curtain instead.

How in the world does anyone pick out a shower curtain? I've always had doors, and I'm having a really hard time. For one thing, the curtain is so big it takes over the look of the whole room, and this is a small bathroom. For another, I will have to like it enough to look at it several times a day and not get sick of it. It's like choosing art. It could be fun, but really it's just stressing me out.
