2 pack of double sided cardboard cat scratching posts that can hang off a doorknob, 17 cans of cat food (no worries not under recall we checked) so Monte can officially be part of this thrift store shopping awesome, wonderfulness, and a Boye long loom set for me. All of it brand new and for about 1/3 what it would have cost at Wallyworld, Tarjay or some other such similar place :) I love the way stores in our area donate to second hand stores/thrift shops instead of just tossing everything they don't sell to be hauled away - pitched into landfills like retailers in other places I've lived.

Lots of good food on deep discount including Korean sweet potato noodles! I recently discovered this food while searching the Asian section of the imported foods supermarket for gluten free alternatives. They're made of nothing but sweet potato starch, they cook up as fast as rice noodles but look like bean thread or glass noodles. They're quite tasty and also have a much lower glycemic index than rice noodles which makes them an excellent alternative for my diabetic friends.

I bought a pair of JCPenney work boots from the 1920's in excellent condition off of eBay. And yes, I do plan on actually wearing them at work (with my modern insoles, of course).
The thought of wearing shoes nearly a century old is exciting when I think of the storied past that accompanies them. Every step becomes a meditation on the passage of time. I'm thinking about their previous owner and the world as it was before these boots where stored and forgotten for the next 90-odd years.
I'll think of the long-dead cobbler who might have bench-built them, the nails (possibly lead?!) they drove into the leather soles. The leather itself was once part of an animal that lived and grazed out in, what I imagine to be, an open field in one of the last tracts of the untamed west. There is clay still caked on the soles. There's something very surreal about touching that clay and realizing it's from the very last step someone will ever take until the next century...
Old stuff is cool.

After years and years of sub par garden hoses, that I have spent a collective fortune on, I have finally purchased... (insert fanfare here) a Craftsman rubber 50 foot garden hose (actually 4 of them) . It was less expensive than 3 seasons worth of cheap hoses.
I live in Gulf Coast Texas and, not being a native, have had a pretty sharp learning curve about what the heat and humidity can do to everything (not to be underestimated in the way it is a shockingly volatile catalyst of entropy)
These hoses are guaranteed for life, I'll be happy if I get 5 or 6 seasons out of them; after that its gravy.

The day I got the scooter I got an add book from them and was so surprised to find one for $ 179.00 instead of the whopping $1,500.00 I was priced from new ride company. I cashed in one full jug of saved change that totaled more then the amount I needed , I can even get tie down straps and a cover for it so I so it wont get went hauling it around. It didn't. Every once in a while it would spit a little bit but it was less than a teensy drizzle and only off and on. It was great, actually. Overcast and cool. Last year, it was in the 90s and super humid and ridiculously hot and miserable. This time was waaaay better.

Inquiring minds...
I had to look up what a salt lamp was and how cool are these!
However, combined with a pet (the bags); don't they just turn into a giant salt lick for the furry house members?
Remembering my late :cat: and thinking she would have just parked next to it and over time....well..

Well I've had both dogs and the salt lamps for years and not had any problems with the dogs being even remotely interested in the lamps. It may become a problem if I decide to keep cattle or deer as pets. Lol!

I bought my honey a big Himalayan salt lamp 3 years ago. We turn it on often.
With the Fla. humidity, we have to keep a saucer under it & it is up on a multi-shelf unit so the pets neither will get up to it....:)
KELT: these lamps are very cool! If you find a gem shop close to you, they usually sell these!!!!

Clay I'm curious, why do you have to keep a saucer under it? I just have mine sitting on a rubbery disc thingamabob to keep it from scratching up the surface it is sitting on. Also nowadays you buy them on Amazon and other online retailers, but I think I did buy mine from a gem shop over 10 years ago and they were much more expensive back then than they are now.
P.S. I just read that humidity will cause them to sweat, unless you just leave them on, then the heat from the bulb will prevent the sweat. That's why I didn't know why the need for the saucer, I only turn mine off when I go to bed and then turn it right back on when I get up in the morning. It never dawned on me about the sweating. Doh!

Originally we didn't use anything under it, BUT seems the humidity is far worse on the Gulf side.
So, one day when I went to dust, there was a "melted crystallized ring" under ours. My honey has some cool purple saucers, it fits perfectly.
We tried a rubber non skid piece of foam BUT it is perforated & the salt lamp melted again, so now we have saucer.
I paid $20 for this one, included light kit & wiring already assembled. Has a slide switch inline, so just turn on & off that way.
Thanks, Jesse!!!

FoodSaver vacuum sealer, used but in great shape for just $5.41 - sales tax included. Cheapest I could find it on ebay was $25.00; Amazon wanted $50.00, so I'm pretty happy about this purchase. It's just a basic model, I didn't want to buy new/sink big money into one with all the bells and whistles until I knew for sure I was really going to like it/use one. What can I say now I'm addicted; I want to vacuum seal everything in sight. Food for the kids, first aid supplies, catnip for Monte the Magnificent... People better watch what they put down because if I run out of stuff of my own I might just start nabbing up theirs to vacuum seal/get my fix. Now I'm off to price FoodSaver bags or similar by the caseload. I think if I buy them in bulk I might be able to get ready made bags for almost as cheap as buying the plastic by the roll and hassling with hacking it up to make my own. I plan to purchases some food items in bulk and when I do I don't want to be standing around fiddling for hours with making up these stupid little bags to put it all in. I mean if I was in prison with nothing but time on my hands, I might agree to slave away making them for 10 cents an hour what for want of canteen money, but for free when I am free? - doubtful.

So far, I love it. It is a heavy tray because it is made from carbon steel, but I did not want aluminum for cooking my food on. This particular pan has 12 circular impressions for cookies, but the impressions are not deep, and the pan is nonstick. The instructions warn not to use metal utensils on the pan in order to avoid scratching it and ruining the finish. I've only used it for experimenting with making Paleo tortillas and it has worked well. Food doesn't stick. Also, this wasn't advertised for Paleo foods, I just happened to see it for sale at Home Depot's website. I've had one other Cake Boss pan and it worked really well until I loaned it to a friend, who subsequently moved taking my pan with them!

So... Does the wax job go with the oil change or the "skin stuff"?

My response was to immediately feel sick to my stomach with worry that they didn't wash the car well enough before putting wax on it. I saw all the left over dirt being rubbed into the paint. Of course, I also had concerns about the brand of wax, but then I caught myself being crazy, so I shut down that thought process and moved to the next post.
I shut it down pretty quickly too, so I was pretty proud of that.
Now you have me thinking about whatever-the-name-of Gemme's Neon is, all over again. Thanks, Bro.
Full disclosure...I did have a moment of thinking waxing = neither regions, but quickly decided Gemme wouldn't share that..I don't think she would anyway.

I'm not saying.

Either way, something or someone got buffed and waxed and is nice and shiny.

Nothing so far and even though I do anticipate buying a movie ticket later, my primary financial objective today is to give shit back. Return Tuesday!
What?
It's a thing.

3 bags of ready to go superfood salads, bananas, meyer lemons, 2 containers of soup (one healthy and one butternut squash and spiced apple bisque...I KNOW, riiiiiight???) and some tomatoes to make a poor girl's Caprese salad. I already have the mozz and balsamic dressing.

A wheel for the electric lawnmower. Why I bother trying to grow that stupid lawn is another matter. Maybe I should just get a goat.
