My mother and I went to Kohls so she could get a pair of white jeans to go with light blue top she had. I didn't know there was so many options for women's clothing....She wears a 6 petite I think it is. I forget how many pairs of pants I looked at tonight but seemed like a lot. I picked out some flannel shirts she liked and I saw these light yellow 501 Levi's I thought she might like and she did...lol. my excitement for tonight.

Well...last night I came home with two jars of jam. Ooola la, made in France.

My mom requested apricot. I knew we had some at work. And as I was going thru the jars, I found a jar of fig as well. So, I'm enjoying that on toast as I type!

Deliciousness with coffee and cream!

Good morning to me!

A Roku TV. My Comcast TV box is suddenly not working and I will have to wait for them to send me a new one. Being a news funkie I was jonesing and thought I would give Roku a try. It is clearly a learning curve but maybe it will be worth it and I will cut the cord.

Then the usual horse feed and bird feed, a sub for me, some cleaning products and adult beverages.

Cards Against Humanity - a gift for my BIL

If you needed another reason to love Cards Against Humanity (https://www.insider.com/cards-against-humanity-your-state-sucks-campaign-abortion-funds-2022-9), here's the best one yet.

Today's purchases came courtesy of Savers. I dropped some donatable items off and decided to pop in though I know that can be dangerous. Best. Idea. Ever.

I picked up a small jar with a suspended tea light and a copper Mason jar with a handle but that's not my big find. I was headed to the loo and I spotted a small roll top desk. I'd seen one there before but it was

1. huge
2. too big for my vehicle
3. I had no one to assist me getting it home

This one is PERFECT. It's apartment sized and a nice wood and doesn't have several layers of bad paint jobs. Also, a gentleman named Gilbert helped me get it into Winnie because the staff can't help with loading as it's a liability and I was having a wee bit of trouble. It's all set and I'm looking at it now and I'm a very happy girl.

The BEST part? I got the desk for $17 with tax and minus a 20% off coupon for donating.

Gas is expensive out here on the West Coast. Premium is $4.29/gal (for my car) in my neighborhood. In town, Portland, it is even more expensive. By 50 cents more (nearly 5 bucks a gal).

Unfortunately just another month of heat. This is a big old farmhouse with next to nothing for insulation and then that's combined with the increase of gas/oil prices. This is definitely the most expensive heating season I've ever had in 25 years but at least I am now headed down the back side of the heating season. I will admit I have seriously considered building a small energy efficient "winter" home on the property that could be rented out in the summmer for extra $$.

I found a new seed company that has spent decades, saving heirloom tomatoes! They even have fuzzy ones! I spent over $100 in seeds. What that means, is that I have to buy another grow station, more seedling, trays, more seed, starting soil, and then eventually about 40 new 5 gallon buckets or other things that I can plant them in. These are not the type of seeds and plants I will stick in the ground for the groundhogs and rabbits to mince on.

I also found a site that sells open boxes from big box stores. The savings are incredible! I bought a small hobby greenhouse last fall and it’s going to be put up in the spring. From this site, I was able to purchase a perfect size heater for the Screenhouse for one fifth the cost! I also got a leaf blower, a leaf chipper, a heater for my chicken waterer, a hoop house, and some miscellaneous office supplies that I needed to make myself more comfortable.

That’s it! I cannot buy another thing! Oh, wait… I bought some hair, jewelry and lace socks. Oh, and make up today too…..

I have once again upgraded my cell phone. Looking back at the above post, I can see that I did not get nearly four years out of my most recent phone (only 2 1/2.) I hope that I don't hate upgrading my phone as much as I did last time. I had to go to Verizon to get them to back it up, because the Verizon app did not work. It also took me weeks to get my settings back the way I wanted them. I'm hoping that because my new phone is also a Motorola, it will copy everything better.

Groceries. Damn it’s expensive!

I don't always notice the price of groceries, because the boy brings them home from work. But today I noticed - $6.99 for a medium bag of Ruffles? That's insane. A potato chip fanatic* (a bag a day) could easily spend $200 a month on potato chips.

*I am not a potato chip fanatic. But I may well become a "potato chips are only for special holidays and parties" person. People might start getting small bags of potato chips in their Christmas stockings, or birthday gift bags. They have moved into the realm of semi-luxury item.

I need this. I've got lots of screwdrivers, but it seems like every time something breaks in this house I have to go buy a new one with a different size bit. I looked on Amazon and it seems like there are lots of different kinds and different price points for these sets - I didn't even know this was a thing.

Then I went to a church rummage sale. I bought a gorgeous glass relish tray. If I had the space, I would just collect so much class! My adult daughter doesn’t see the need to hold onto these beautiful things from the past. So I don’t want to collect too much otherwise it’ll just be more for her to dispose of when I am gone. I’m hoping if I keep it simple, she might keep a few for my granddaughters.
I also got a relic of the past, a magazine rack. Not many people buy magazine subscriptions anymore. I have my favorites of gardens and birds and cooking. I wanted some place where I can put these issues. Finally I found a magazine rack I like!

As soon as I said that, this came to mind. :jester:

Today was my yearly jaunt to the largest art festival in the state and I made out like a bandit. I have jewelry from multiple artists/vendors including a husband/wife team that make lovely bracelets and matching necklace/earring sets for very reasonable prices (and who switched out two charms on one of the bracelets, no problem), a glass pendant, artwork, handmade paper, stickers, a handmade cloth coin purse, a mini acrylic bookmark with gemstones pressed inside of it, tea light containers shaped into adorable animals using recycled metal parts (a cat, a bird and a unicorn) and I found a new vendor/artist that makes tiny clay things and then frames them in lovely designs.

For example, he has functioning clocks with tiny tea/coffee cups where the numbers would go and he made a few hundred tiny saucers and put them together into designs and framed it. Very costly, as everything is handmade and takes a while to complete but I did get a piece and now I know about him so I can plan ahead for next year and get more pieces. I love, love, love his work! He doesn't use molds so even though some of the designs are the same, the colors and items inside are not. Everything is a one of a kind. I got a small piece of a lime green water can pouring onto a flower pot filled with a multitude of flowers inside. Very colorful, as my artwork tends to be. It's in a 1.5 inch thick fancy brushed nickel frame and has a divine corrugated mat.

This (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CenturiesClayworks?ref=shop_sugg_market) guy! He's closed the Etsy shop while he makes the art festival rounds but it will open back up again after that.

I tend to find one or two new vendors/artists every year. He was one and this lady (https://www.instagram.com/tammisauco/?hl=en) was another. She and I got along so well that, when Square went down and she couldn't ring me up, she said I could just come by her house to pick something out since we discovered we live two towns apart. Love her! Her work reminds me of Kelly Rae Roberts (https://www.kellyraeroberts.com/) and I told her so. Thankfully, she took it as the compliment it was meant to be. I love whimsical, colorful, positive artwork! It makes my soul sing and feel joyful when I look at it.

I also bought groceries and gasoline but who wants to hear about that.

Himalayan yak cheese. :|

Yes, really. They are dog chews made from Himalayan yak cheese, and they are super hard. Brittany thinks they are super delicious, and it takes her a long time to chew one down. She chewed on one for 2 hours, and it was only half gone.

Apparently according to the package directions, when a chew gets worn down to the last inch, you can make a cheese puff out of it and feed it to your dog. You soak the end in warm water and then microwave it, and it turns into a yak cheese puff. :| I'll consider serving these at my next party - NOT! (Unless it's a dog party.)

I’m a nut about Christmas. For inside I bought several Santa Clauses. One is absolutely darling, very woodsy. I got two that hang off of edges and their feet dangle. I also got a Christmas clock that on the hours chimes a different Christmas song! For the outside I bought several garlands and wreaths to put on my shed and Greenhouse and Chicken Coop. Oh, and candy canes for them too!

I had to buy a dog ramp. My poor Moondoggy… It appears she has a torn cruciate. We’re going to try extreme rest, no steps and pain meds and to get her weight down. Fingers crossed. I hope she’ll use the dog ramp.

I also ordered some toys for my granddaughters for Christmas. Rainbow high dolls? I guess that’s the thing that’s popular this year with them!

A couple hundred dollars on nothing! Oh, my bad, that fee does include flea drops. My hussy cat, who has had 3 or 4 litters of kittens since she has lived here, was finally scheduled for a spay. She had to have a pre-spay appointment last week which cost me $115 although that did include a rabies booster. Then today it was $210 for a spay rejection because her veins are too fragile and they couldn't start a catheter. They did drop a $78 sedation fee because the wife, who was once a vet tech, called and questioned their competence and ability to perform a pretty routine task. So after two 40 mile round trips today and dollars spent for said rejection, I still have an intact cat. I am not sure how she is going to grow robust veins but I am done with this vet clinic who we have used for years.

I bought a month of internet and paid some bills today.

Yesterday was my spendy day. I went to a holiday craft fair. I found an artist that uses eggshells in her paintings to create dimension. A bonus is that she's family. Her partner was there, helping her with sales. I had to support her. The work was good and I wound up with a great shadow box painting of an owl. I might name him Barnaby. I haven't decided yet.

I also got a cedar robot, a painted and resin-ed large seashell with a positive mantra painted on it in the style of Kelly Rae Roberts, a framed piece of art using watercolor paints on sea glass and rocks to create little birds of all colors on the seashore and also a greeting card print from the same artist.

I spoke with a vendor about a custom piece using laser cut plywood in a layered piece where each piece is a different color. It creates dimension and just looks really cool. The vendor had a mandala, which was nice, and several unicorns. Some in the style of MLP but the one I liked was more like a carousel horse that just happened to be a unicorn. I just wasn't a fan of the colors in the combination he used but he's open to designing a custom piece for me and only lives about 20 minutes away so I could actually just pick it up or meet him somewhere in between. I don't have to worry about damage in shipping, postage or the quality of the item when making a custom order. It is a win-win-win.

I hit the Amazon Black Friday sale and got a few things that were really worth it. (For me - my holiday shopping is all done.) I got a 6-canister kitchen set of Tupperware for $20 (60% off!). I have needed replacement canisters for my kitchen staples for quite awhile now.

I got some Himalayan Yak Cheese dog chews for $12 (half off). They're usually pricey, but Brittany loves them.

And, I got some storage baskets with lids for my bedroom for $31 (24% off). They weren't as much of a bargain as I would have liked, but I have been looking at these baskets for a long while, long before Black Friday began. I was probably going to eventually break down and pay full price, so 24% off is a win.

– Keto Sampler Gift Box for m’self
– A cute pair of leg warmer's
– Squeaky toys for Bella

I’ve been wanting a food journal for a while. I sorta created my own but I found one online that’s structured, coil-bound with labels, in teal with gold foil at a CyberMonday price.

Leg warmer’s. I’m starting to feel like the woman in the poem about being old and wearing purple, but I sometimes get compliments from the young women wanting to know where I buy them, so they don’t look goofy to errybody. I don’t want to look like a fool but I kinda don’t care because I absolutely love them. I wear a pair on most days in the winter, and have many pairs after my lovely niece gifted some to me. Still, I wanted another pair.

Toys. Shorty ate two of Bella’s toys on Thanksgiving and hid one outside, I think. Shorty is 60 lbs of muscle and is a good boy, but he ain’t here for the toys and Bella ain’t here for him.

A new set of kitchen canisters. The Tupperware ones I ordered aren't going to work - not big enough.

I've been struggling with the same old set for almost 30 years, and I complain about them every time I have to get something out. The seals are broken, they are mismatched sizes and don't fit well in my cabinets. I have no idea why I've put up with them as long as I have.

I noticed this new set on a Black Friday sale. They are exactly what I want - airtight seals, square so they fit in the cabinets better and take up less room, can hold 5 pound bags of products, and clear so I can see what's inside. And they were only $18!

A 12 pack of Dunkin' Spiked. This is a new line Dunkin' is trying. A 12 oz can has about as much caffeine as a third of a cup of coffee and packs 6% alcohol content. Right now sales are limited to 12 states but I think they are going to have a hit on their hands. Spiked will be found in either coffee or tea and each genre will have 4 different flavors.

6% ABV is a bit high. I will probably try it, though. Caffeine and alcohol? :hangloose:

Well, we are still surrounded by a sea of ice and snow and it’s been a lovely week of not going to work (not using my paid vacation for bad weather), but I definitely will curb my usual spending habits in a really huge way, over the rest of this year so that next year, it won’t hurt me economically to miss work due to *climate change* .

So, no spending today or in the near future. :(

Just keeping household bills paid and stashing back extra income to hurdle the next bad weather scenario.

I really like mushroom compost. I never knew about it until the Master Gardener at the nursery recommended it - it's not something my parents ever used. But that is some good fertile stuff!

I remember picking blackberries as a kid. They grow everywhere around here. But not thornless - what a great development in gardening! I remember all the tiny little scratches all over my hands and arms.

Alas, I am not doing any gardening these days - my knees can't handle it. But I look forward to hearing about your gardening adventures this year, Soft*Silver.

We figured out yesterday that we can go to a Seder at a local synagogue. I decided to bring gefilte fish, and my supermarket claimed to have frozen gefilte fish. I couldn’t find it anywhere. The very nice fish clerk tried to help, but honestly, how can gefilte fish be described? I told him it was like meatloaf, but made of fish. Customer service saved the day. Pete saw the desperation in my eyes, and she found the freaking frozen gefilte fish.

Today, nothing. Yesterday, I hit up Savers.

I'm in a vicious cycle of buy/return with them. Since the shutdown, they no longer have fitting rooms so you have to do the best you can for sizing. Shirts are easy enough; I can just pull them on and off in the aisles as they have mirrors on the endcaps but pants, bras, et cetera are a crapshoot and, inevitably, at least one item won't fit. So, I bring it back and they only do exchanges, so I try to find something else and then it starts all over again, especially since their pricing is wonky and it's rare that I can find a substitute piece that is the exact price of the one I am returning.

In a way, it's fun but also a pain in the keister at the same time.

Well....late night online shopping😯😝

A new coverlet for my bed. Blush pink. I've always had white bedding. I'm changing it up a bit!

A pair of Brooks running shoes. ( um , no running for me..lol) This pair has colors, navy, green, orange. I've always had grey ones. I'm going to be wild now. Lol

Oops...my bad. Black, turq and lime green.
Orange?? Lol

My new coverlet arrived already!! Its in this medium sized box that's going to explode when I open it.
LOL

I have some things I brought back from my trip that I want to hang before I get that on my bed.

This is a recommendation for an extended warranty I purchased.

I bought a Samsung kitchen suite online three years ago and got the extended warranty from SquareTrade (Allstate Protection Plan) that was offered when I made my purchase.

I've had to use the extended warranty twice and both times left me happy. I had to have my receipts, register with SquareTrade online and make my initial claim online, but it's worth the effort.

The first time I made a claim was when the oven quit working. The burners and all else worked but not the gas oven. They assigned it to a repair company, sent someone out, fixed it, and it's been running smoothly ever since.

This time my refrigerator was over-cooling and freezing my celery, apples, tomatoes, etc. They sent a repair company out twice who said it was a known problem and it couldn't be fixed. SquareTrade replaced it with the same model that arrived today, but it's a little different from my last one. My last one had a permanent 10-year warranty seal on the front and this one doesn't, so I'm hoping I have a model with a cooling system that's been adjusted. If not, I'll just contact SquareTrade again and they'll probably offer me cash. I'm hoping this one works because it fits perfectly in my tiny kitchen.

All of this is to say, I really like the extended warranty by SquareTrade/Allstate. They're easy to deal with and their goal was to satisfy the customer. Just be sure to keep copies of all your receipts and register with them online.

Happy shopping.

I bought a Trapper today! Well, his services. I have been battling groundhogs on my property for 15 years and they have gotten totally out of control this year. I’ve had it! Today he set up his traps And so far we’ve gotten two of them!
They’ve eaten my cement floor in my garage to the point where it looks like Swiss cheese. It’s not safe to go in there anymore. And I can’t even tell you how much damage they’ve done in my gardens!

. . . my refrigerator was over-cooling and freezing my celery, apples, tomatoes . . .

You put your tomatoes in the refrigerator?!?!!! Not to do! Leave them out, you'll notice the difference when you eat them raw. (I suggest a summer tomato sandwich with a big slice between two slices of white bread with mayo and salt and pepper.) :)

Agreed. Refrigerating tomatoes makes them mealy.

There's nothing better than a fresh tomato sandwich!

Today, I didn't buy a thing but I did pick up some items that came in the mail.

Yesterday I renewed my license plate tags and then went to a better professional beauty supply and stocked up on all my favorite L’anza & Kenra products (a years worth of personal supplies)...

I haven’t bought anything lately from a White owned business but I do care about people of color (because my sons are biracial — Black), so I support Asian owned businesses by Vietnamese and Koreans and I focus on buying specifically from Black owned businesses because until people in America fully understand how the White billionaire class never suffers the racially motivated policy that undercuts business owners or homebuyers or people of color who try to out run the goal post moving that keeps the White billionaire class in power, then America will never be successful in addressing racial policy that treats people of color so poorly.

Know your worth.

Don’t give your worth away to the wrong sector of our society.

I bought poster board in 20 colors for a crafty project. I also bought some summery pre-mixed cocktails, just for lounging around.

I have been so tired lately that I slept most of today away. But I need to get some household chores done (laundry, etc), but need to get some food into my tummy… so I’m on my way out the door to spend a bit of money for dinner (teriyaki veggie plate), wash and dry my clothes, then stop by the gas station to put some gas in the car and then go across the street to buy something at the grocery store ( probably rainbow beets, more watermelon and something sweet for a late night snack ).

Well....I bought two different phone covers for my new phone. Rose Gold in color and I'll decide which one I like best. Also, screen cover. I'm getting used to the new layout of my phone.

Etsy...shhhhh, a cute detail for a craft project.

Last night I came home from job #2, where I get to do the markdowns, two nice size ceramic pots, dry shampoo and two packages of summer paper plates. One is super cute, lemons! I don't have to do dishes as often, lol .

I'm going back tonight, let's see what deals I can get!

well tonight....a cooling pet pad $6, a big dog tug a war toy $2, 4 shirts, polos from Hilfiger, Izod and Calvin Klein, all 4 for under $20. For me, a pair of MK slides $10, what a steal!
I'm telling you it's a semi annual clearance sweep. I was making customers left and right very happy!

Oh yeah, and a super cute little Hello Kitty cosmetic bag for my Lunch buddy. She had her birthday over the summer.

A lightweight vacuum that my father can use from his wheelchair. The look on his face when I gave it to him... he is not in the habit of cleaning up after himself.

Today, I found a cute little Ed Hardy tee at Marshall's. It was on clearance for $10 but the cashier found a second tag that I missed. $8! It's a tax free weekend here as well. Woot!

Have been shopping like a mad woman lately. E’rything from a mattress to an indoor hydrogarden but yesterday it was all about Harris/Walz.

I really wanted an old-school, convention straw-boat hat in red/white/blue, but I couldn find one at a reasonable price so I ended up with these things:

I think this will be part of my voting-day outfit, but I may change my mind before then.

Happy shopper, happy voter—that’s me.

Omg…. This has been a really busy harvest season

Welp, I bought a 10 x 16 pavilion for my garden! It is exquisite! I just had it delivered last night.

I bought two dehydrators and have had them going for the past two weeks, drying up peppers of all kinds, tomatoes of all kinds, and sizes, onions, zucchinis, and of course, all my herbs. Although some are hanging to be dried.

I also bought canning jars so that I could store the dried Harvest in.

And I bought a really nice mandolin because I got tired of cutting tomatoes with just my hands and a knife

I have frozen all kinds of corn and beets.

Tomorrow I pull out my cold water bath and my pressure cooker to can.,
