Today I will be buying a haircut. First chance since the pandemic hit. Fortunately with the quarantine in effect I don't really have to go out and show my scary self much. It is a little annoying though that the kids are watching me like a hawk out of concern for my health. After all if if AARP wants me then I must old enough for them to know for a fact, I am teetering on the absolute very edge of death right?

Over $100 worth of pens, which is only 3 boxes, because my boss must have _the_most_ expensive possible pens which come in a 12-pack. (Yes, there are more expensive pens that come individually. Thank goodness she doesn't ask me to order those.)

The other day, at discount retail grocery store, I saw that Campbells Soup has small cans of what they call, Cream of Cauliflower soup? I bought two small cans and used one of them today, while cooking up a big batch of pasta and veggies, so I can have a bowl of high-protein salad for lunch or dinner, this coming week.

I don't like it. It looks nothing like cauliflower. But you can see smashed to bits pieces of cauliflower in the soup can. Worse, it is orange colored. Not good.

So I didn't use it and won't be using the other un-used can of soup I bought.

Luckily, I have a giant head of cauliflower in the fridge and can steam half of the head and mash it down and add a bit of coconut flour and coconut cream to it in order to make my own Cauliflower soup base. It takes time to do it, but I'd rather do it than use the soup I bought in the Campbells Soup can.

YUCK. Good call on using real cauliflower.

In this box:

1932 Night After Night -- George Raft, Constance Cummings [Paramount]
1933 She Done Him Wrong - CONDEMNED -- Cary Grant, Owen Moore [Paramount]
1933 I'm No Angel - CONDEMNED -- Cary Grant, Gregory Ratoff, Edward Arnold [Paramount]
1934 Belle of the Nineties - CONDEMNED -- Roger Pryor, Johnny Mack Brown [Paramount]
1935 Goin' to Town -- Paul Cavanagh, Gilbert Emery [Paramount]
1936 Klondike Annie -- Victor McLaglen, directed by Raoul Walsh [Paramount]
1936 Go West, Young Man -- Warren William, Randolph Scott [Paramount]
1937 Every Day's a Holiday -- Edmund Lowe, Charles Butterworth [Paramount]
1940 My Little Chickadee -- W.C. Fields, Joseph Calleia, Margaret Hamilton [Universal]

The three films from 1933 and 1934 were given the dreaded "C" rating: CONDEMNED by the Legion of Decency during it's first two years of operation.

1932's 'Night after Night' likely would have received a Condemned rating, but it was released a year before the Legion was formed and was one of the reasons why the Legion was formed.

Roman Catholics were forbidden to see these films.

All four are presented in their original uncut form.

'Night after Night' was a George Raft gangster movie.

Mae plays one of his old girlfriends, a supporting part - This is the only time she did not receive top billing.

And it's the only time that Mae did not receive a writing credit, even though she wrote the best line in the film - "Goodness had nothing to do with it."

I shopped my groceries as usual and I heard people talking about a nice lamp that would help you relax, clean the air or something so I went to google (my middle name) and checked it out.
Apparently like so many other things these days there has been a huge recall all over different countries from these salt lamps catching fire from the cords (wrong ones) and also making some dogs and cats sick and cats even dying from licking he salt. Many of these were not cheap lamps just recalled after all the mishaps. I did not go into brands but apparently you can get a fire regardless. This is not to say ALL salt lamps are a problem just buyer beware and check where you are getting it from. Many have wooden bases and from what is said the sweat from the lamp rots the wood with the salt so you have got to get one with a marble base if you don't want the problem. Anyway I am glad I looked before I shopped. I don't want any lamp that bad.

The bow is beautiful and satiny and the skirt has tiny tight pleats, it's just so very pretty. If I were younger and braver which you are anyhow when you're younger, I would totally wear this as a dress w/ tights and ankle boots.

I got a good deal on it, at Lowes. Black & Decker, cordless drill, for small home projects. Plus, bonus!, it came with a 2-year warranty, which only cost an extra $6 bucks. All, for under $30 bucks. :cheer:

The drill came with drill bits, an assortment of screws and dry-wall thingy's, so you can screw in a screw into dry-wall materials. Which is exactly what I need to do.

Today, Dear Wife and I replaced our king sized Simmons Beautyrest bed ( mattress only, as we have a king platform bed, so no box spring) with a top of the line king sized deluxe genuine Sleep Number bed system. This thing has 2 individual separately controlled split sleeping zones, heated foot zones and remote controlled head and foot elevation adjustments. It has to be, by far, the most comfortable bed that I have ever, EVER placed my old painful body on. It will be delivered and set up in approximately 3 weeks, a few days after we return from our Fall vacation. We can hardly wait!!!!!

We then drove over to the neighborhood Lowes store and bought a new deluxe dishwasher. Our old one, a 2.5 y/o GE model that came with our new house, died of electrical problems the other day. It had been making some rather peculiar noises in its last days, so we knew it was getting ready to circle the drain soon. Well, it did, finally, after it let out a few pitiful chirps and went forever silent thereafter. Our new one has individual bottle/tall container washing "fingers"/sprayers and even some kind of internal garbage disposal in it, along with a special 3rd top rack for utensils. This will be delivered next week, and not a second too soon, as Dear Wife and I are pretty sick and tired of having to wash our dishes by hand!!!

I almost fell asleep on the floor model bed at the Sleep Number bed store. Yeah, those really are THAT comfy and worth every cent of their price (just under 10K for the model we bought, in case some are curious/interested in what these things go for). I have such bad knees/low back issues and Dear Wife has back issues and what is called "Chiari Malformation", and this new bed is really going to help the both of us to sleep much, MUCH better. :winky:

If you enjoy it, I'd say it is a great purchase. I have a 12" and an 8", and the 8" is perfect when I want just enough cornbread for myself, or myself and one other. It's also great when I want just one or two eggs. Or when my 12" is being put to another use. Heck, cast iron is the way to go for cooking. Have you ever tried making a pineapple upside-down cake in one? It is _divine_, the way the cast iron perfectly caramelizes the pineapples.

Hopefully the last time I will need to buy graduation garb..unless I decide to go for a Doctorate....mmm nah not for a good while. These degrees exhausted me and while an EdS is pretty darn close to a PhD. I'm in no mood to continue that masochistic path at this time.

Can't wait for the ceremony!!! Dec. 11th! I will be on school break at that point but not WORK break... and thankfully, I bought all my graduation decorations when they were HOT in May/June...

Rico and I met up for a late afternoon date by the river. Rico brought two slices of Pumpkin pie (that he made himself, he's a good cook!) and I brought two Venti cups of Starbucks Blonde Roast.

I bought two matching cloth masks for both of us, so we wore our new masks for our walk by the river. We also included plenty of space between us to enjoy the pie and coffee, at the end of our riverside walk.

I like it so far. I upgraded from the Motorola Turbo 2 to the Motorola one 5g uw. It has six (6!) cameras, including a wide-angle, a macro camera, and a depth camera in addition to the other cameras you might expect, and it has two flashes - a regular flash and a ring flash. I expect to become a lot better at taking pictures. It has a really fast processor. It has 128 GB of storage but only 4GB of RAM. You can also upgrade your storage to 1TB with the micro SD card tray. It has a really long battery life - I use my phone a lot, and I haven't charged it in two days, and it's still on 41%. It also comes with a turbo charger in the box - it recharges really, really fast. I appreciate that it has a headphone jack because I'm old school that way. It also has microphones at the top and bottom of the phone. I'm pretty happy with it now that I've gotten all of my content transferred over. It has a lot of great features for a mid-range phone. Here's a great review that i used to determine whether to purchase it:https://www.cnet.com/news/motorola-one-5g-review-emotional-roller-coaster-of-phone-features/

I'll be interested in hearing what you two decide to get.

Since both Rico and I were without power during the latest winter-type storm, we both went grocery shopping at an independent International grocery store to replace all the food we lost. We've become relatively good at finding small business to support, as long as it is not owned by somebody who has ties to the GOP.

So that is what we did yesterday, we bought tons of groceries to split between our two households.

Today, we plan to visit our CPA to file our taxes.

Other than these two things, we're set for awhile.

My current one works fine but these are basically one use type lights. Each one lasts thousands and thousands of hours but after that, you have to toss it as there's no way to switch bulbs or change batteries or anything once it burns out. It's genius and evil at the same time.

Anyway, I've had mine for a while so I thought it pertinent that I get a back up ready to go.

I have and they are great! I am a VIP, which is the only way to do it, so you get the discount because $80 for a pair of leggings is just stupid. I just have to remember to 'skip' any months I don't want stuff. As long as you check the sizing charts before ordering, you should be good.

The leggings have been good, especially the ones with pockets. Super smooth and handy. The sports bras are hit and miss but it could just be me. They have other stuff but I'm not buying a scrunchy from them.

I say go for it. You can always cancel if you don't want anything else.

Today, I visited a discount furniture store and left empty-handed but it's in the same plaza as Michael's and JoAnn's so I popped into each of them and left with 2 bags totaling about $55, which...for me...is VERY good.

So, I needed a little retail therapy. I might’ve gone a little nuts...

I bought gym shoes, several blouses to add to my work wardrobe and a really great funky dress, a poncho shawl thing and a coordinating hat for my boho island girl vibe, cute file folders for my home office, new phone and a tablet because yeah... sundresses for my granddaughters and hair products because this crazy, frenzied self care started with my hair appointment this morning. Oh yeah, and I bought breakfast tacos for my hairdresser and I...lol...

Like I mentioned previously, I NEEDED a little retail therapy.

We did our big "stock-up" shopping for staples...can goods, soda, etc. etc.

More and more I'm noticing a trend that has me worried.

Items that are advertised at a certain "sale price" aren't scanning at that price at the checkout! This has happened at several chain groceries stores lately and more than just once or twice. Once you get home and notice the error, it's always a hassle to return, point out the error, etc etc. & then only to be told some lame excuse why it probably didn't scan in at the right price!

I'm not a big fan of using the self-checkout because I think it eliminates jobs for humans but I'm considering using them more and more. I can catch any error and nip it in the bud avoiding the hassle.

Not sure. Gave J a list, $$$, permission do the best she can. It's so hit and miss these days, rare anymore to get everything in just one trip. If all goes well –
-Best Foods Mayonnaise
-Morton's Salt
-Franz Keto Bread
-Franz Hot Dog Buns
-Hebrew National Hot Dogs
-Cucumbers
-Bag of Spinach Popeye's or equivalent
-2lb. Block Tillamook Cheddar Cheese
-Fresh Mushrooms
-Family Pack Boneless Chicken Breasts
-Small Tub Sour Cream
-Bag Ruffles Potato Chips economy/value/family whatever they're calling it HUGE ASS SIZE biggest available, or two to three of the smaller if it comes out a better value for my money and worse for my diet.

I gave her my cash on hand and just in case it's not enough, my credit card with the instructions – don't go crazy. Now nothing to do but kick back, sit and wait and see what happens.

Oh and P.S. A Wendy's Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I figure if she's going to lecture me about my bad choices I might as well just ask for all the unhealthy stuff this trip that way I only get lectured once.

Shoot, forgot to tell her add cheese. Don't want to try her patience/test my luck though. If worst comes to worst I've got string cheese. I'll just pull little strips off, tear them in half to fit the bun, but hopefully she'll remember on her own.

Was so frustrated with the lousy service I received the other day when I went in for a mani/pedi. She was excessively rude and did a lousy job. I walked out without allowing her to apply the polish to my toe nails or give me a mani. I let them know I was unhappy though I paid for the pedi because I didn’t want them to call the cops on me.

I also bought some red polish and a manicuring kit. It will do for now..

I celebrated my birthday early! I got a cut, color and style at a new salon and I think I've found 'my' place. Love my stylist! She's the owner of the salon and all the other ladies are super nice too. I chatted with just about everyone that came into the salon while I was there, including a gentleman who is a seasonal customer of mine. Small world!

Next came a trip to HomeGoods. There I purchased a one of those garden creatures that are made from distressed metal parts. I don't have a garden but it's core is a bucket and who doesn't want a multi-colored metal cat bucket?!? I got a wind up hose in it's own container for the car so I can wash it on my work property and then put it back in the trunk, like it never happened. Gotta do something about all of this pollen! My car is blue but looks yellowish green due to the pollen coating. I got a GIANT freestanding scratching post for the cats since Loki's birthday is this month too and Gracie's is next month. It's gorgeous, as far as scratching posts go. Beautiful wooden base and it's easily over 2 feet tall. Happy birthday, babies! I also got a book, napkins, artichoke hearts and snacks.

Finally, I hit up Dave's Market. I got eggplant cutlets, Korean BBQ beef tips, chicken teriyaki pot stickers, whole wheat sesame noodles, several small containers of various grain salads and a chickpea and spinach salad as well.

I also paid a bunch of bills but that's no fun.

I met one of My friends at B&N so - I bought her a coffee and Myself as well.

Also, when you go to the coffee bar area they always seem to put display right there to entice you to buy of course - and it always seems to be a book I have not read. So, I bought it - the title is The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon. It kind of looks like a "Summer book read".

Then I went to Staples - Staples is just .. well Staples. I could spend hours in there just like I would in B&N or a flea market - you get the drift.

I bought: hanging file folders, a pack of white writing pads (not a fan of the yellow), a Portfolio, manila file folders, 2 steno pads (with white paper as well), 2 BlueSky "Notes" books, and then I found in the clearance section a small organizer (it almost looks like it is for coupons) - but it looks like you could do receipts, etc. - I got that for My sister.

I then went to the Credit Union - I did not really buy anything - but I had a good discussion with My now financial "advisor" (advisor is probably not the right word - but *shrugs*) about what retirement will look like for Me - and some planning with that. I am going back next week - and we are going to comb through My credit report - and some other budget things - also info I got from the Department of Social Security - and we will put a forecast together. We are also going to do lunch together while we work on it - so that will be cool.

At Ace Hardware, I bought tape for work and ant bait for home. Those pesky pests are back again this year. I lived here for nearly 7 years before I saw the first ant, though I know the previous tenants had a big problem with them. Given the state I found the kitchen in when I moved in, I saw why. But these are very specific ants. They only seem to be interested in my cats' food. I had fun (not the right word but what word means I enjoyed ending them but hated that I had to do it and it made me fall 10 minutes behind schedule?) getting rid of them but I knew they'd be back with reinforcements and I was right. One of the baits I got allows me to attach it to baseboards and whatnot so I won't have to weight them down since the cats think they are toys to be batted around. :cat:

At the grocery store, I got the Halos that Wally World didn't have yesterday and then wound up tossing a few extras in the cart as well, including the pizza for dinner tonight, which I've become very happy about as it turned out divine.

I also won the lottery. Wee! I got my money back for the last 3 tickets I purchased so I'm not mad at that.

2 yards of black linen. Capris will be made. They will be much cooler than denim next month.

Forgive me, but were Capris called Pedal Pushers back in the day or are the two completely different items?

My dad’s last dog was named Boots. He was lab mix with white paws. He was the sweetest thing on earth. I often think of him when I buy or wear boots.

Disappointed because I just received an email saying the black boots are out of stock. Am tired of looking and will look for replacements on another day.

I got my usual groceries but today all our other places are opening. Not all quite yet but the people are out there in myriads of shoppers. I also checked out some shoes and bought a bean bag game for the little one for her birthday to go with her globe. Most kids are fascinated by the lightening effect going to their touch.

Tooth cleaning, lunch at Wendy's for J and I. Spicy chicken sandwich and fresh out the fryer super, super hot. Painless, dang that dental hygiene student was good!
