have you tried mushy peas LieslKate? They're quite quite delicious when served accompanying the right thing. As has been said they are traditional with fish and chips but I quite like them with bacon chops and new potatoes....there are those that have them with their Sunday roast too.

I'm a bad northerner, I spice my mushy peas up with my ever present chilli

oh and one side effect of mushy peas :fart:

my mum said it must be a nothern thing she never served mushy peas with hers.....

Hola ruthie - just how did your lesson plans turn out? :cheesy: ...vodka and iced tea sounds lovely - a Russian Tea almost huh?

ahaaa Lieslkate, is it Batchelors peas you get in cans, I think they are by far the most famous brand? ...I've never used them as part of anything like cutlets that's an interesting idea.

Now, I wish I could get Beanogas, can't say I've ever seen it here. Whereabout in the Uk have you lived?

you might look for a product called beano too

That's one helluva truck it sounds heeeuge and very comfortable - I have a feeling the life on the open road is wonderful in theory but maybe not so wonderful in reality....am I right?

Have a sunday roast dinner is how I was brought up too morningstar...thankfully that 'tradition' is still alive and well in many households, I often share a sunday roast with my friend who makes one every week for her 4 boys and assorted waifs and strays - I love going there. I hope you do reinstitute the tradition some time, it's a great way to get a family (be that blood or chosen) round a table to share food and be social.

Good evening Lofters ...early evening, fed and watered, now sat with a beer and pondering over something on a site I'm a member of (non US)...I'm incensed that racist language is allowed under the guise of "it's just a joke, I don't really mean it, that's what they call themselves" ...I think if that racist name calling and their repeated justification of it were made here they would be timed out or banned.

Morningstar that is one great looking truck. Do you ever come to Jersey?
The South part of jersey did not get hit so hard last night. A few inches but the wind felt like it was going to rip off the roof. I am off today bit have to work tomarrow.
I remember Sunday dinner also. A big roast that was always delicious. I had it over my neighbors because my Mom was not always the best cook. LOL
Hope everyone is having a grrreat day. Sunny

I have indeed had mushy peas many times, both here in Canada and in the UK... I have lived in the UK and my Dad was Welsh-born... where I live in Canada presently I can purchase mushy peas both tinned and dried !

To avoid the after effects of mushy peas, other legumes and Brassicaceae (also called Cruciferae) Cruciferous vegetables you need to try this...

http://www.beanogas.com/

GlaxoSmithKline is the manufacturer for Canada and the US... likely the UK as well. It's not a drug but an enzyme that aids in digestion and either reduces or eliminates the production of intestinal gas when you eat certain types of foods. It works !

I love mushy peas with just about anything but esp with lamb chops or roast and always with fish and chips... I also use them as an ingredient when I make veggie cutlets YUM YUM !

I quoted myself as I left something out... the name of the product is BEANO, the web address is www.beanogas.com and the manufacturer is GlaxoSmithKline... they have offices and factories in the Canada, the US and the UK... BEANO the product may have a different name in the UK as it is the same name as a childrens comic book... check with a pharmacy or chemists shop.

My veggie cutlets have several ingredients including marrowfat peas, rice, lentils, yellow peas, wheat berries among others and depending on the flavour or texture I am aiming for... yes, Batchelor's is the most common brand and the one I can get here.

I lived in London; Stanford Hill, Leytonstone, Palmer's Green, Maidiavale and the Home Counties, Visited most other major cities and toured the coastal areas Cornwall to Cardiff and the Channel Ils.

Hope that answered any questions asked... oh whoever asked about growing them... check this link and the link on the page for PEAS...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marrowfat_peas
and then go to a local seed house or check online for the type of peas that will grow best in your zone.

Thank you for answering my questions Lieslkate...Did you ever visit any of the northern towns and cities? Correct, The Beano comic is a British institution, I think all kids must read Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, The Bash St.Kids - I certainly used to many moons ago. :cheesy:

This is gonna get a HUGE shriek of disapproval BUT... there is nothing in the Mom Handbook that says you have to take in grandkids or have adult children move home...

Do the grandkids have no other relatives? Where are the other grandparents, any other siblings or cousins age appropriate etc to take responsibility? Is this a matter of you being the only "unmarried" relative and therefore you are free and can take on this responsibilty? Why are you obligated to take them on? If the parents are drug addicts perhaps the kids would be best adopted...

As for adult children moving home... just say no, otherwise you are stuck with them 'til you go to the old age home...

well in my case, as i have mentioned I have already raised my g baby for 3 out of 4 years, yes My son is on drugs, so are millions of other people, I love my son with all my heart as I do these g-babies. He was my Baby. Now as a matter of fact I am the only relative around. but that would make no difference to me I would fight like hell for all of my G babies.
Sometimes, doing the responsible thing is giving your children to some one who loves them and will take good care of them while you get your shit together so you can be a parent in some capacity.

I am frustrated, I am disappointed, and a little relieved at the same time.
it isnt written in the handbook, I have to take them....no

but it is 100% in my heart......I love those babies , and could never stand them to be with strangers or in the system.

I have 5, 4yrs old and under..... I would take them all .

blood is always thicker then water.... no matter what.:goodpost:
if it was my daughter in this situation... i would not or could not allow strangers to raise my grand kids..as in adoption or foster...

Stoney, I don't have kids or grandkids...but I've been a kid. I'm very old now, but still can't help believing that a committed, loving adult would have made a lot of difference back then. Beyond even that---ANYthing that is 100% in your heart will not dissipate. Follow your heart!

OK, I'm off to do water-exercise in my spa. Have some new foam bar-bells and flippers!

Hi ALL! I hope you had a good weekend and that life is being a good ride for you! I went to the Winter Ball here (a B-F Socials event out of SF & Oakland, CA) and had a great time. Saw people I haven't in quite awhile and danced. If i can dance, all is good!

OK, I'm off to do water-exercise in my spa. Have some new foam bar-bells and flippers!

I am a happy :frog: and love my :frog::dog: and working on becomming :superman: (woman butch)!!!

i am the same way...if i can go dancing i'm happy

Good morning Lofters, I hope that the morning is full of good coffee, smiles and sunshine for you all.

morningstar :chaplin: My name? Well as you know I'm Dr.Doo on all other websites but I chose a different name to register here because I wanted to try on a new name for size so to speak.
Incubus "An incubus (plural incubi) is a demon in male form supposed to lie upon sleepers, especially women, in order to have sexual intercourse with them, according to a number of mythological and legendary traditions."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incubus I chose it because it represents the rather rude scallywag in me :grindevil:

Well lofters, I'm off to a job fair today to find out about getting in college in september to do some sort of vocational degree. Wish me luck!

I posted this in another thread... being proactive I am posting here as well since I am hoping to meet a nice single Butch of the older variety , 40+ but a younger Butch may be considered too... you just have to be able to keep up !

Single Lesbian, 54... 100% Prime Canadian Femme... educated, well read and travelled, quirky and fun sense of humour, I speak French and American as well as English; my many interests include cooking, walking and hiking, reading mysteries, biographies and trashy novels as well as watching tv, going to the movies, hanging at the beach in the summer, not so crazy about winter... I sail, ride horseback, have been know to camp and am a Lager Lout during World Cup Football (South Africa June 2010)... have predicted the last 8 SuperBowls acurately and not bet on them, dammit! I am employed as an IT Geek/ Tech Writer with a Media Relations Co, planning to retire within the next 5 years, I am willing to relocate ...

Conversant in BDSM and Leather I am seeking my equal opposite in a Lesbian Butch (F or M ID'd) aged 40-? of the Domme / Top / Daddy variety with some of the same interests, active, employed or retired, sane, with a sense of humour and perspective who is seeking a real life, monogamous committment.

So... I await replies and I will will update on the outcome, discretely and revealing no names w/out permission of course !

I found an even better descriptive of what catches my attention best in a Butch... "OFOS Top Domme Stone Butch Daddy". The Stone part of this description is optional on my part... I am happy either way !

STILL mis-spelled it my ADD / Dyslexic friend... KILT...

the plaid skirt thingy Scotsmen wear... then again there is the Irish kilt too...

*rattles handcuffs... *

The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear, originating in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands of the 16th century. Since the 19th century it has been associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general, or with Celtic (and more specifically Gaelic) heritage elsewhere. It is most often made of woollen cloth in a tartan pattern.

Although the Scottish kilt is most often worn mainly on formal occasions or at Highland games and sports events, it has also been adapted as an item of fashionable informal, and formal, male clothing in recent years.

The Irish kilt is based on the Scottish garment but traditionally made in a single (solid) colour.

Proably not for the reunion because they are most likely part of a block discount rate. But, I use my AARP card all the time for hotels... especially those that allow dogs!

The long-term group care insurance they offer is worth looking at if you can't get it through work.

Actually, there are several LBGTI owned businesses that give AARP discounts - we baby-boomers are rising in numbers all over the population!Call and ask the ones that you do business with or look them up in LGBTI guides. Obviously, this is more true in larger cities.

No one in any flollowing posts said..."yeah Morningstar whats up with the dyslexia. In fact she said in another post that she loved ya and you made her laugh. Perhaps its just the "internet", ya know not seeing an expression on the posters face . Oh come on...all birthday cakes should have candles.

Can you see someone calling an ambulance after trying to blow out that many candles at once? Anything over 50 candles becomes a struggle, but also a challenge.

I'd opt for the candles with numbers on them. That way you only have to blow out 2.

Oh and can you make 2 cakes, some of us don't like chocolate cake.

Mornin' lofters!

I woke up with the same damn headache I went to sleep with! ARGH!!! But, I'm gonna have a good day anyway!

What is everyone up to over the weekend? I hope to do some 2 steppin' and country waltz tonight ... so this damn headache better go away!!! Tomorrow there is a queer International Women's Day event going on near me, so, I am going to try to go to that.

And, I better get a whole lot more done here at home! Have a renter coming in April that will be living in a cottage/studio I have and I need to get things organized!

And I am hoping to see someone that I think is terrific this afternoon! :awww:

Hi all!

Haven't been up to much lately - just surfing around.

The weather here has been beautiful all week - I've managed to get out for a walk. Even made it to the boardwalk and took some pics.

Have dinner in the crock-pot. Since my sister is gone for the weekend I've been able to make it a bit more spicy than usual.

AtLastHome - hope you are feeling better. How did the cake turn out?
Jet - tacos sound yummy. hmmm - maybe for dinner tomorrow.

LeislKate -

Sometimes we make a mistake and say something that hurts someones feelings. It appears you have done this with Morningstar. Perhaps instead of defending your actions, a sincere apology might be in order?

At any rate, picking on someones ability to spell or punctuate IS rude and insensitive, regardless of how long you've *known* someone. Don't do that again.

To all: The ugly back and forth IN THE THREAD is not helpful and makes it more difficult to moderate the actual issue. If you want to have a personal back and forth as heated as this is, please take it private in the future.

Injections worked for my Mom for about 18 months, by then the quality of he life had deteroriated rapidly, and she was no longer the active person, she had always been. Surgery for her discs was no longer an option, but a necessity. She went with the X-stops which makes the fusion procedure seem barbaric; she was up and walking the day after her surgery, and for the first time, she was pain free without drugs, in a long time. She is very active, once again, and almost everyday, expresses her gratitude toward a doctor and a procedure which gave her, the life she enjoys, back.

Hi Christie!
Happy belated birthday! :birthdaycake:

I never thought that, for most things, the actual number matters - what matters is how you feel and act.
Although - I suppose I'll feel different about that in a few years!

Didn't take my nephew back to college after all. My sister had the honour. Good thing she had a map - he didn't even know the highway to get there. She was so stressed when she got home.

Off to enjoy a bit of this beautiful day. Have a good one!

I really am on the same sheet Rockinonahigh and you have my sympathies. As well as cortisone tomorrow I should also find out the results of the MRI scan I had on my neck - I seem to have severely degraded discs between all my neck vertebrae and I too am hoping that surgery is avoidable.

It was my thinking that the injections have to be worth a try first before more invasive procedures - at this point in time I'll be happy with some pain-relief and mobility back in my shoulder for just a few months. My doctor thinks that surgery is inevitable on my shoulders but at least it would be key-hole surgery and not majorly invasive. Despite this it would still need recovery time and I'd prefer that to be in the dark days of winter.

Injections worked for my Mom for about 18 months, by then the quality of he life had deteroriated rapidly, and she was no longer the active person, she had always been. Thank you for the information Liam, it's good to know that the cortisone helped for at least a while. I hope there's something like the x-stops for necks, I've looked at the site and can't find reference to neck application.

Incubus...I feel for ya with the neck injury,I have a simular prob on the left side of my neck where a bale of hay got droped on me a fue years ago, hurt something awfull.I have been told there is something called disk spacers that is used for the neck injurys..tho after reading about the xstops would work as well.
One thing I find that helps my neck is haveing a good masage therapist help strecth out the muscels and all to loosen up my sholders and neck...good for the back too.

NIghty night morningstar... you might wanna put some ice on that knee....

Innubus and Liam.. know what you mean about pain... I hurt my neck and back in a near miss in a car 16 years ago. Didn't work full time for 8 years and I am still under the care of a back pain specialist. Have tried everything except surgery. Doing ok now...working a full time job and a part time job. But it took a long time to get here and to know what works for me. Still get awful migraines and back pain if I'm not careful. But not as bad as before thank God.

Good Luck guys, it may take a while..but keep trying everything .. you never know what will work for you!

Good night all,

Ruthie

Did you know I am working on a book about silver femmes and crone butches? I myself am a silver femme....I thought about offering a proposal on aging for that conference but I would never be able to pay for the fees, let alone the hotel....

I know that I have never felt prettier than I do now...and while people tell me that they love my silver hair, they themselves would NEVAH let their hair go grey. Age is such a taboo subject...

i went back and looked at the committee. Maybe no one over 50, but some amazing women in that group. i won't be attending either though even though i live nearby. i am kind of tired of gender ID politics and culture. Not finding them personally liberating right now. But i was impressed with that group.

Re the book softness is writing, totally cool. i do not not not want another ID category in my life though, so will not be adopting the silver femme one.

I totally understand this...not much into it lately myself. I just find it interesting that probably no one is over 45. Amazing women do not make up for women over 50 being overlooked. I am not easily impressed anymore, just as women of color would not be impressed if they were ignored and left out, but that is me.

This invisablity i'm speaking about is simply not finding a place to belong in the queer world I live in.Even as little as five years ago it wasnt this way,I knew many folks of diffrent ages and then age wasnt a facrtor in anything..not so with the new group that has come along. For one thay are either tweeners or andros or questioning ...cetanly the people who were even close to my age have either broken up and left town or gone underground, the fue I do see hear and there simply dont acknowledge other gay people when we meet in public..not everyone, but the majority. It has become a place of terratorial(sp?) boundries in every bar we have hear.If anyone is over a certan age its like u r in a void,I thought it was just where I live but i'm finding it's other places as well.I was talking to friends of mine who live in another city and they are finding the same prob where thay live.Looks l,ike if u r older u are to old to belong anywhere.

UGH! This sux!

I feel very fortunate that I am a butch queer living where I do.. about 20 minutes from SF. The lesbian, B-F, Trans, Gay communities are very representative of older folks (guess middle-aged on up is a better way to put it).

I was planing on going to visit a fue places to find a more queer place to live, but as long as my back is like it is that wont happen, tho I do keep hopeing for the best to happen. Now if I took out the bf and stone butch equasion and became a guarden variaty lesbian ..would it make a diffrents..I just done know.I just know I cant chang who I am to please other people.

This just not good! I say move here!!!

Something weird with me though, is that I keep thinking of moving because of having a hell of a time with arthritis and living where I do (dampness). But, I have to say that when I read posts like yours and by others that just live in areas that are really very constraining (in age as well as queer populations, etc.), I think think again. Also, my friends would be hard to leave.

I also give just getting older a lot of thought in terms of ever being stuck in some straight old age home! My son has heard a lot about this! Poor guy...

Sorry to hear we have alot of people in pain. I had 2 slipped dics removed when I was 12. It was very traumatic and painful. I made a full recovery and was able to lead a normal life. Nothing like back pain. I had alot of crushes on the nurses though. LOL When I was in the Hospital I would put their soaps on so they would all come into my:flying: room and keep me company. LOL

Morning I hope you are feeling better by now. Ice is the best thing when first injured.

I just want to add that Youngstown, Ohio has a great LGBT community, and while small, is very active. I have been out in all my jobs here. My mobile home park has other openly gay people living here. And we have all 4 seasons. While I would love a longer growing season (I am an avid gardener) I cant give up my fall and winter. Cleveland and Akron and Pittsburgh are a short drive away. And our housing is so cheap! I am buying a house for $10,000. Can you beat that where you live?

hello Lofters...am feeling a bit under the weather. I ran out of my ulcer and hiatal hernia meds and oh...not feeling so well tummy wise..but along I go through the day into the next when I can go get my meds again! Dont you hate it how reliant we are on meds as we age? I remember thinking I was made out of cast iron. Probably was but I put enough alcohol in me early onto turn myself into a rusty tin! (smiling softly)good thing I got into recovery or you would have had to put me in the scrap pile!

On the other side of my emotions, is excitement. Tomorrow I am picking up the waterfall vanity and bed my sister bought me for my new house. I cant wait to have all my make up and jewelry in the same area, an area dedicated just for them. A dream come true!

I hope your weekend is good...and that the rains I am hearing about didnt do any damage where you are!

I have a hiatal hernia and gerd problems and the meds i was on for yrs made it worse, until i tried apple cider vinegar, bicarb & spring water (not tap), 3 times a day, it works and its very good for anyone with athritis/skin problems as it regulates your acidity ph levels............anyone interested google Earthclinic.com..........

A very good morning to all Lofters :chaplin:

I hope everyone has a wonderful day doing what they want with the folks they want to do it with.

Commiserations to those feeling poorly I hope you're feeling better soon.

It's a sunny Sunday here and Mrs.I is engrossed in an assignment that has to be handed in tomorrow and preparing for a presentation tomorrow too poor lass. That leaves me to catch up with my reading and get out for a walk in the sunshine. I also forsee a movie night coming up, I have some fantastic dvds of films I've not seen for a very long time and am looking forward to seeing with new eyes, eg Barry Lyndon and the Last Emperor

I wonder if this is why I crave apples when I dont have those meds....thanks for the tip..I will try it...

I have 2 tablespoons of acv, with l/4 teaspoon bicarb soda mixed with a glass of spring water on empty stomach, dont eat for an hr after taking acv nor take it for 3 hrs after eating, so you can fit it in with your meals............i also find cutting back on red meat, booze, bread or anything with lactose, milk etc helps, eating lots of fresh veg & fruit - but try not to eat fruit with anything else because it only takes half an hr to digest and if you have a meal which can take anything from 3 - 12 hrs to digest, depending on what you have eaten, the fruit sits on top of that fermenting, which is why you make lots of acid and people often say "oh, i cant eat fruit" - they can but on its own...........i am no expert but since l994 i have studies diet and tried things out, so i can only speak from my own experiences

And don't forget enjoying your computer while listening to that music in solitude Ms E.

My life is as equally exciting. Getting ready to get out of my sweats and into some jeans and a tee shirt. Time to go to the grocery store or at least that's what I've been told. Someone here wants some homemade bbq sauce ( dare I say she's spoiled) to go with the shredded pork I'll get from last nights roast.

Hey all!
I'm visiting my SIL. Her internet service was down for a while - so this is the first chance I've had to get online since Sat. night.

Not up to much - when my SIL is at work my nephew and I are doing some spring cleaning. I do it mainly because of my allergies - seems I can tolerate the dog and cat hair if I know I've swept and mopped as much as I can.
My nephew is on his spring break - today was a dentist appointment. Then we both went to get a haircut. He got a super short military style - which his gf won't like since she like his hair longer. But it is so thick that he prefers it short. I also got a very short haircut - not military short - but short. It feels so much better now! Just have to get some gel or something to tame the cowlick and I'll be fine.
The SIL took us out for dinner - as a thank you for all the work we've done. For some reason my nephew got spaghetti. I thought - jeez - I can make that at home for a heck of a lot less! But that's what he wanted. I got a steak with garlic mashed potatoes and a caesar salad. And a couple pints. OMG - I am so stuffed!

Rockinonahigh - the fencing sounds like such fun! I want to try that one of these days - - just have to find a class!

Hey ya'll!

Lovely day here in SW Virginia. I am finishing up a couple of home restoration/renovation projects in the house while Jess and Wolfwalker have augured 90someodd post holes (ok, more than that because I had to have straight lines as opposed to that butch/ftm zen thing! LOL) and am watching the fence posts pop up like rows of corn!

Jess is gone to pick up 20 of the hybrid cypress trees and to order an additional 26. I know Hy is glad Hy used the augur for the tree holes before Hy returned it!

Its supposed to be in the mid 70's here through the weekend. I am SO excited. Its been a long, cold, snowfilled winter and I am ready for some sunshine!

Hope you all are doing well.

We recently got a new fence too :) Yeay!

Have not decided what to do with the front yard and what kind of trees we want. I want big ones, Cynthia is afraid they will fall on the house. We had to have 3 huge ones taken down last year, they were rotten inside probably damaged by the 98 tornado.

I hope everyone is having a splendid day, I am so incredibly ready for Spring.

50's and 60's this weekend.

"wakey wakey or I will spankey spankey!" thats something I would say to the girl child to get her up from bed. She was a joy to raise in general but never to raise her from her bed...lol... (I wasnt a spanker..just fyi..it was just a sing song for her to motivate her out of bed)

It IS a glorious day out there already and I have painted my parking barriers and cleaned up my house and soon I start some meds for a medical test I am getting done tomorrow. MMM...sounds like fun to me!

Sachita got me started thinking of how I could garden while waiting for the place to sell...well. I got a pack of peas and am going to put them in my round tin tub and add a fan trellis to it. I can just take it with me when I move! Small start but its better than nothing!

Can someone tell me how to get paint off my hands without mineral oil...I dont have anything and soap and water isnt doing it. My local butch buddy brought me over a paint brush last night. I had bought a smaller one but lost it. (I think it never made it from the counter to the bag to take home). Well, its twice as wide as the paint can was..lol. She said I needed a wider brush to cover more ground. I said I didnt need a wider brush cuz I was just painting the cement parking beams..not a house. Good Lord, talk about overkill! Well, she was nice enough to loan me the brush so I took it but it made a mess out of me. I was wanting to dip the paint into the can...instead I dipped and fumbled. LOL...its done now and I am just as glad she wont see how I look and will only see the paint job I did which was pretty good. Now if i can just get the paint off me!
