I've been taking Ambien for a long time actually. I think I've built up a tolerance to it. My doctor is probably going to change the Ambien to Lunesta. The sleep study is interesting, I'll have to try that

You hit Grandparent-like stage when a night of drinking involves geritol cocktails and acting goofy is trying to remember where you parked the car at the mall. Both must end before dusk cuz you cant drive at night anymore. You awaken at 2,5, 7 and 9 am just to go potty.

I love the Billy Crystal monologue about early bird specials from the movie City Slickers.....you have supper at 3pm, lunch at 10am, breakfast the night before.

hey there lofters this one had a good day...well it turned out that way...I got money from the State...because I am getting help from the Dept of vocational Rehab to find work and this is a check for me to get gas w/ for the rest of the month...but because I have been having other issues. I used it for several things. First off put gas in the tank so that I can go to my Drs appointments this week. Also got food this evening
and got mins for my prepaid phone, so that I can make some calls to people
like a wonderful BUTCH that I am getting to know that is IN Connecticut but will be moving this way in March. I also spent time w/ her online tonight as well as sent out a few emails to find work.

I'm off for a few days, no money though, so I thought I'd bake some goodies. I drug out my grandmother's cookbook and found a recipe I had everything for. I made cookies, and didn't burn one. It was so good to have a warm house and cookies. I'm thinking of doing it again tomorrow. Goodbye diet. I also found out that peanut butter and basil leave sandwiches are delicious. Maybe it's just that basil makes everything better.

Made it home before the ice hit. I had to get out and get my Turkey before the storm came. I got a 20 pounder this year cuz I'm having 10 people over for Thanksgiving day. It's been a few years since I've entertained on Turkey day. I really wanted to be surrounded by my closest friends this year. It's going to be a potluck and almost everyone is a wonderful cook in their own right. It should be really good. Hope you all are able to celebrate and be surrounded by those you love. :chocolate:

Hi, I know how you feel sometimes I just think well , I've had my good times and happy relationships, so leave it at that. Then again there are days when I think gotta get myself out and about need to find a new love and I realize that is what I really want ..then life just gets in the way i am currently taking care of my elderly Mom so I really can't get out much. I was born and raised in NJ except for when I moved to KC back in the 90's seems so far away now that we are in the 2000's almost a decade later.

How are the lofters doing today. Brrrr it was cold this morning walking the dogs and they seemed to take longer too. but it was only like 10 minutes. gotta do laundry and stuff and pick up my sewing machine and get to sewing some skirts for Temple and pants for winter. Maybe sweats would be good..hope all are doing well leaving some hot :tea: and :chocolate:

Hey,The othere post on putting kids first. I feel if both parents needs are taken care of the kids would be taken care of and the family would be a happer place. I do know it depends on the people. Sometimes it works the othere way. I feel a mom should take care of the kids and the the othere adult helps out when,they can. Mydaughter comes first. How ever back eons ago I hate to say this but the church came first. If I had it to do over again there would be alot less church....We lean by our mistakes.

Its hard I know I don't bother to look anymore because some people live like 15 minutes from me and don't even want to meet for coffee so fuck them I'll be alone for the time being, they are all stuck up in NJ that is one thing I have learned!! I understanding raising 2 and others....... i am very lonely out here on the road... I can take passangers on road trips, but most back off when they find out its not a 2 day trip, i mean this is my job, some have said how they wouldnt mind learning this , and getting there lisense , etc... and i tell them i can train them, we can team , get more miles,, and $$ but then i never hear back from them , guess they lose interest.. and with dating its hard very hard to find mr right... and even if i did... they would have to be in western NY or NC ... lol .. but 1st thing i know i have to do , is get me off this darn truck and im making it a goal this yr... sooner the better. I'm shooting for May.. soo will see.

Hey blueeyes, I totally understand where you are coming from, this is when good friends over the holidays come in to play. Even if it is just a call from them or even an invite to a get together is a welcome thing. Try not to stay in, get out and enjoy your "chosen family" and your birth family if they are around. Sometimes it is hard to count our blessings but they are there, roofs over our heads, food to eat, people that love us, this thread ;). Yeah I know, I have been accused of being an eternal optimist but I kind of like that! If we all reached out to someone, we would feel better too. Hang in there blueeyes!

As for me, give me a real person with "flaws and all" any time. Flaws are what set us apart from each other. Just as in crystals, they are responsible for the beautiful rainbows contained within. But to see those rainbows you must look at the flaws.

Tomorrow (today? West coast dwelling, night owl-istic tendencies make internet communications difficult sometimes) marks the month long count down to my 48th birthday. I have NO IDEA why this count down is occurring! 30 felt like nothing, 40 was a joke, and 45 was merely an eyeroll... but 48 feels oddly significant!

Hi, glad there are still some of us around. Busy week? Great weekend to relax here. I needed to pick leaves out of the flowerbed today, but it was too sunny and hot out there. I'm waiting for another hour. It's about 80 here today. Too hot for me.
Sorry Ruthie about the breakup. Life just keeps happening, there has to be some good come of it.
Things we like to do? I love the markets too. More than that I love thrift stores. I have a rule, nothing new except underwear and shoes. I've done ok for a few years now. But, I have to quit buying and piling up neat stuff. The last time I went I got a brass surveyors compass I soo did not need. My resolution this year is get rid of all my junk and organize.

Sing (I'm in 2 choirs, one a church and one an audition only communty chorus. We sing with the Philly orchestra and somethimes with the Academy of vocal arts in Philly as well as do our own stuff), I like to read, do stuff on the computer and hang out with my friends! They are the best!!! Not much of a tv person, but I do like the cooking channels and science fiction. Love Dr Who and Torchwood. I love to cook!

i soo wish i could sing! well, i can sing but i can't "SING" lol!!
when i was younger, i had such a great voice, well trained, was in a choir and took singing lessons with my elementary teacher, and even starred in a local television show called Star Date - but by the teenage years i got into trouble a lot and lost sight of the things i loved doing when i was younger - lol.. i did pick up on playing some instruments though which i love - oh and i can sing in the shower, i always sounds good singing in the shower, hehe!!

Hey,went to eye Dr. yesterday. The report is there is a very small groth in my eye . But,it is B9 I have to put drops in my eyes and go back in 30 days. The blurieness he thinks is from allerges----my cats. And I need stronger glasses.:glasses: My cats are very dear to me so here comes the eye drops....LOL:seeingstars: ( some words are misspelled check your nearest pop store and bubbles will cover the wrong letters.)lol just being punchie. HI everyone and Sylvie too. Just got home from doctor's appt just a check up that is all. I fell though on the ice some nice lady helped me up which is good. The trash people destroyed the only garbage container I have need a new one. I will have to get it on Monday..outside of that its the dentist at 1 pm and then fabric this afternoon that is all...for me I pooped already..have a great day..

Some idiot stole my debit card numbers and bought a bunch of stuff online with my money! I live paycheck to paycheck, had just sent out my mortgage bill ... really??!!! Spent an hour on the phone with the bank trying to straighten it all out. Need to go to a branch tomorrow with an affidavit to fax to fraud prevention.... and wait 5 to 7 days for a new card. I work hard for the little money I have.. honestly, just go earn it like everyone else. JERK!

So far 2011 sucks!!!

Gee,I hope all will get better for you. 2011 hasn't been that great for me. But,it could be worce. Thank goodnes its not worce. I wached TV with a friend after seeing things that show. Things could of been worce and the beatings I had and so on,years ago, was nothing after seeing the show. I have never had a card stollen. But,my ex ran up bills that was in my name. I just got them payed off. Just payed the last bill up yesterday. Now I hope I can save some money for a rainie day... Good luck and a better 2011 Ruthie14

UGH we have more snow I hate to complain but this is ridiculous the poor dog can barely get in the backyard let alone on the sidewalk!! WE have to wait for the guy to come and shovel for me, its too much for me to do by myself!! I'm seeing :| this as a face right now its too much snow for one small area to deal with all the time!! Going to get dressed and get ready for the shovel guy to come and open up a pathway for me...I pray that there is no more snow coming to NJ or NY for Chrissakes!!

Hi! I'm a (very) newcomer to the site, having joined just today. However, I have been warmly welcomed by so many people, and I feel as if somehow I have stumbled into something I may have been wanting for quite some time....a warm and welcoming community.

Having just turned 50 last November, I'm sitting solidly in the middle of the '40s, 50s, 60s' qualifications! I'm letting my silver hair grow in (after years of coloring it). I've taken up yoga, become a vegan (vegetarian if nothing vegan is available), and am absolutely reveling in being a Fierce Fifty-something Femme. :)

Hoping everybody is getting at least a taste of the long-awaited springtime.....here in NM, that means ~~WIND~~ in a big way, but at least it's getting warmer.

greetings, everyone! i am new to this thread, will be turning 50 in May. while i do not mind getting older, i find myself getting enexpectedly lonely for company, specifically for that of a special butch in my life. i had thought to be perfectly content in the company of my room-mate (a lesbian friend, not B/f), my dog companions, and a newfound Elder Grandfather (not blood-related). lately i have found myself wishing for that someone who found me special, charming, pretty...who would send me good morning emails (for the relationship would probably have to start online,due to my relative geographical isolation), call me just because Hy wanted to hear my voice and knew i would want to hear Hys. Someone, who when we met, would have old-fashioned manners and treat me like a lady. i find myself missing the touch of Hym, even just the brief brush of my back as Hy pulls out my chair. the promise of more intimate contact in our eyes as we gaze at each other during our conversations, getting to know one another...
at this time in my life, i had thought to be concentrated on my inner studies, finding a Taoist or Buddhist community to join. i had not thought to missing...Hym. i had-or thought i had-relinquished romance to the first half of my life. now these feelings are coming unbidden back into my life. i didn't even want them. but here they are now, not to banished or fought against, but accepted. funny as i'm turning 50.
i realize that this is not much of an introduction. i will come back to this thread and do that at another time. thank you, whoever reads this, for joining me briefly in this surprising place of the heart in which i have found myself.

Welcome damselfly... I am hearing you! Much of what you said I am presently going though. I will be 49 tomorrow and I have to say, that while I don't mind the number, it is what I am missing that is bothering me. Things I thought I would have in my life by now. Some I will never be able to have, some I have a glimmer of hope for. I have very mixed feeling about my life right now. In some ways I am better than I have ever been... in others, the opposite is true. Starting a new journal tomorrow. Maybe that will help. I need a change, and I need it soon. Not sure WHAT I can change.... but dang it... I will find something positive to do for myself.. no matter how small!!!

We cant get full retirement till we are 67 now..so school is it for me,,better late than never. Welcome Damselfly. Your name is beautiful. I'm not very active on this thread but I do keep up with the posts. Your entry strikes a chord with me today. I'm in the same space as you right now. I'm surprised that I still long for that special butch to be in my life. However, I seem to have drifted toward those who are emotionally unavailable. I want a different kind of lover in my life now as I get older. I turned 60 in January and am retired. Recently, I've had to deal with helping to care for someone in my family who has been very sick, my older sister. It's been a life lesson on aging. It's hard because I feel as though I'm not finished with the lessons of youth and middle age and now I have to start to learn even more and different stuff. It's inevitable, I know, and hopefully will get easier. Betty Davis gave us what I now think is the wisest quote: "Old age, it's not for sissies." Hang in there Damsel, there's more to come.

I will turn 57 next month and I can say my two little one certainly keep me from worrying about it, however it would be nice to share the "grown up" things with someone special for sure. Last year, a few weeks after my 59th birthday, I realized that I wanted and needed to make some personal changes if I plan on staying healthy in my third act (as Jane Fonda calls life after 60). The biggest change would be to get a grip on my eating so I could loose the 90lbs. I gained after I quit smoking a few years ago.

Now, here I am about 2 1/2 months away from my 60th B-day, 50lbs lighter and dancing every day. Now, I am not doing any fancy exercise type dancing, and I am not a "dancer" in the sense of having studied ballet or modern dance. No, I just dance. Thanks to a young Queer man I know (young as in 18), I now have a long YouTube playlist of some of the hottest Top 40 pop music vids, around. Admittedly, some of the vids Michael sent me links to, are not in my playlist because the lyrics are a bit too raunchy for me. However, the ones I've kept are not exactly tame and I don't really care. It is the beat I'm after. The beat that makes me jump up out of my seat and dance.

welcome and welcome to the threshold of the golden years. Sometimes those 50 numbers don't roll off the tongue so easy. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it all. For a good part of my life I've enjoyed being single and also enjoyed falling in love. I'm ok with being a lone but I find myself wanting a partner yet not settling for just anything.

I wish you much luck on your journey in finding that special connection. I wish it for us all.
