Morning lofters..
So far since ive been up(8am) its snowed like mad but not sticking cause its 37 and not cold enough to.I fixed home made bisquits and jelly with breakfast this morning,with some left to have with gumbo tonight.My fur kids have run in and out fast cause southern pups are like that in the cold.
I didnt go to the fenceing class thursday cause the peeps I was going with had to cansel...next week we will give it a go.
Sooo what am I gonna do with the rest of the day???Hummmm lets see....laundry,give the fur kids a bath,read the sunday paper.Nada is much on tv cause since basket ball has taken over u cant get much else on anywhere...and whats on sucks.

I cant find my garden gloves so I tilled some pots and worked the side garden with my bare hands and a trowel...dang if I didnt mess my nails all up. Thankfully they grow so fast. I will just cut them back until I can find or buy some new gloves.

Hey everyone, just found this thread. I'm just turned 49. Feels pretty good, old injuries are talking to me a little more. I've been an little more on top of my food intake and watching more of what I eat. Doing more excercise other that surfing, mountain biking and jogging with the puppies.

I love my age, the way I see the world, the experieces I've had and the people I've met. :dogwalking:

driving only 2 miles from my mom's to my apt.
we passed this lil adult book store thats near my mom's.. its been there for wow like 20 yrs or soo..... its cold and rainy here.....
well my daughter and i had to do a double take......
seen 3 people. ( look like men) .. kneeling on the side walk in front of the place. as long as i lived around here i never seen anyone doing something like that before there.

WOOT! I sold my trailer and now can buy my home! I am a home owner once again! Talk about rebuilding your life .... I cant believe I am able to do this. I am in my 50s and feel so lucky to have a second chance. Life is good...very good.

Hi lofters,its a sunny 70 degree day and im lovein it.A while ago I got back from running around,boy did I do good at big lots..I found some tin remakeas of signs to hang on the wall.one is Rosie the Riviter the other is of a buxom woman and a huge magnum of champign with the incription..two american beauties..cerica about early 1900's.Got some treats for the fur kids and a couple of books to read.The day is early still so I gess I will go out and use all the exersise equipment on the patio.:basketball::superman::weightshock::heavywei ght: Well i'm doin my best to get there anyway.

Mama and I raided Big Lots yesterday, lol... you are right- they have some phenomenal deals going on right now.... I'm not real big on shopping- hate it actually, but I really enjoyed the things I got- I got a bunch of rose bushes for 3 bucks each, great price!I fell in love with a gazebo that they had displayed.. oh my..... it was just gorgeous!
I could go crazy with all their outdoor items this spring :)

I love who I am now,
Occasionally, crabby, but way happier.

I miss the flexibility of a youthful body. LOL

I have become a morning person.
Now most of my friends are younger.

I think keeping current with pop culture,
as I always have, keeps you young for sure.

I feel like the majority of my younger friends are :curtain: obsessed with their love lives, but I guess I was too in my 20's and 30's.
I know I give good advice to them. Experience has its merits.
Not sure how I feel about the term "Cougar" does this apply to Femmes? lol

No, I was in the midwest and I was working AM/FM in black radio in the 70s and then from there, AOR (album oriented rock); country, easy listening and then all talk before becoming a newscaster. I was in radio for 12 years total before getting into advertising (another 12 years).

Well, a friend let me to this site and was glad to see this thread ;). I am 55 and raising 17 month old twins, so we are never too old I say. I think I am not only blessed to be 55 years young and feel great, but to experience being a "dad" which I always wanted. Wasn't planning on doing it alone but life is what it is right ;). congrats on the twins! And for the record, 50s are the new 30s and the 60s are the new 40s so you all just need to calm down about your ages! We arent our parents' generation! We are blessed with so called modern times where our health care has allowed us to live longer, better.

Hello Lofters, Dunno how I feel today. Was feeling great after seeing Suzanne Westenhoffer last night with friends. But today, I guess all the stress *shrugs* I was in church and they baptized a baby today. I could never have any and now too poor and or old to adopt. So I started to cry. Got myself together, but put a real damper on my day.

Thought about it, but they get taken away from you. Then you never see them again. Raised stepchildren for good part of thier growing up. Then the mother that never wanted them decides she does. They were teenagers by then and she left them alone alot. So she screwed them up. Between that and my exhusband, they don't talk to me anymore. Painful story, no one wanted them but me. Not even thier father. Fostering would be too much like that. I know there are not guarentees that your children will still want to be around you when they are grown, but it is far more likely if they are your children from birth or shortly after. Adopted or born of you. Fostering is almost a guarentee that they will leave you. Thanks anyway... It's a bad day... it will pass. It always does. You're a peach to give it some thought for me. I truely appriciate that.

I have a friend who could never have children and every mother's day is so hard on her. She envies me for my child...even when she was at her worst behavior, she was still a blessing. I am sorry you could not have children.... there are no words to even suggest somehow it could be made better. My prayers will be for you to find comfort somehow ....

Don't get me wrong, I love being my age, I think I am much smarter about raising kids now then I would have been. As to "how that happened" ;), well, guy meets girl, :), marriage, couple finds donor. It gets sad after that ;). :harp:

Now, about my twins, a boy and a girl, absolutely adorable and smart of course. A handful to be sure and spoiled rotten to the core but despite all of that they are great loving kids. They are very helpful with laundry, picking up their toys, speading them all over the house as well.

Evening lofters. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! Bought my mom a beautiful hydrangea today for Easter. It is such a light pink it looks white. Georgous. Also bought more seeds including moonflowers. I have to wait for a cloudless night though, to see which way the moon travels. Love the way they smell at night. I love spring! Ruthie

I have not posted in awhile. I had to go back to work on Monday and i am still trying to get used to working again. LOL I have a bum shoulder and have been nursing it. The pain sonetimes is just incredible. Although it is getting better it is a slow heal. Maybe some of you garden types can come over and plant some flowers on my patio. Like to look at them but not really a gardener.

Hey all!

Well - the past few days have sucked - - I'm going thru another insomnia cycle. At night I'm so tired but I just can't fall asleep. I think it is time to break out the meds! I don't like taking pills but I guess I'm at the point where I have to.

I've been doing a bit of spring cleaning around the apartment. But it seems that yesterday was dedicated to my nephew's bedroom. I went from just going to change the bedding to finding a waist high pile of laundry in the closet. I guess he would only wash a few outfits when he was down to the last clean pair of jeans - - everything else just piled up. Quite frankly, I'm surprised by how many clothes this guy has - - has to be more than me and my sister combined!
Yesterday I had to do a load of whites in the quad machine at the laundromat. Today is t-shirts, tomorrow will be jeans and shorts.

And I have a few errands I have to run for myself - pricing new glasses, pricing new tires for my car. I might even go to a movie.

More backstory, came out late - my children were in their teens.

Very recently split with my g/f of four years. Dating someone who wants to stay in the closet, per se, isn't something I'd suggest to anyone. :titantic:

Never insisted that she march in the streets donned in nothing but rainbows. In fact, quite the opposite, just wanted her to be happy. Kept myself from the local LGBT community because she works with a good bit of the "L" portion and she was afraid of anyone finding out. Her Mom retired from the same place she works. Can't have Mom finding out.

That's from my perspective, based on my own personal experience.

So, working on sorting life in general and where I fit in. Moving on, making friends and trying to get out of this emotional quicksand. It's driving me nuts.

Generally stay busy a lot with community theater and chorus. :hamactor: It helps some.

MS..yes, there is a really great place to get catfish and gumbo,qcctualy several places but Ralph and Kacoco's is colsest and the best for Louisiana cooking,just down the road from the waffle house bout a mile.

nin hao, ma? how is everyone doing ? i hope that Monday has proved a good start to the week. my week has had a wonderful start. i am glad about this. i have an appt tomorrow w/my counselor. next week is going to be extremely busy: two dr. appts! getting older can surely be lucrative for the medical profession, lol. has anyone hear of or tried the new trifocal glasses about which i keep reading? i now wear bifocals; these new glasses are very appealing to me-they are even adjustable! they do have a nerdy Ben Franklin look. this actually appeals to me as a nerdy ex-Prof and librarian. :nerd: the only thing dissuading me from buying a pair is price, somewhere around 300$. much too high for a poor ex-academician!
henle, now to the potentially useful: if you are on SSD or over the age of 50 (I think), and low income, then you are eligible for a free cell phone and free minutes. the amount of minutes you are given each month varies by state, as does the minute's rollover policy. you can find out more about this program here: www.safelink.net (http://www.safelink.net). i got my cell phone last month. nice little phone easy enough even for me to use. not very many minutes. what do i expect, i live in a poor state. you can BUY more minutes if you like, which i won't. i just use it to call home to let folks know if i will be home late, etc.
another benefit for those of us who are disabled, esp. if you have low vision: the Library of Congress distributes by state a program which issues to those qualified a special cassette player (though they are quickly going digital) which plays books on tape. They send you a book of available titles and you choose from them and they send it to you for as long as you need it! They also do this with large print books. If your state does not have a title, they can usually arrange to get it from the Library of Congress. Any public library should be able to sin you up for this program. i can send you the info you need if they cannot. just PM me if you need it.

I have the new trifocal..I believe they call it the progressive lens. I love them and love being able to see the little things. It seems glasses are quite expensive doesn't matter which lens you get. I was shocked at the cost.

Just dropping by to say hello. I have been pretty busy with work. Just got a Jeep Cherokee. Love the ride but hate the gas consumption. LOL That is the price to pay for riding high. LOL Having problems with my shoulder going to see a specialist today. Hope everyone is well. I do not think I ever had a crawfish. I am more a shrimp, scallop person. i've had to get new glasses every two or three years since i was five. i now have progressive glasses. the lenses alone cost almost 400$ these aren't the glasses i'm talking about. these Trifocals are made by one specific company (can't think of the name at the moment). they come in only one type of frame, which has a mechanism by which the glasses can be adjusted for something, i don't know. they cost ~800$, i believe.
i hope that my information proves useful for someone out there. i love my new digital machine for reading tapes? discs? i don't know what to call them. the battery charge lasts for 24 hours, so i can take it w/me to Dr. appts and other time-consuming events. plus, more and more magazines are going to disc/tape/whatever these days. so far my Buddhists magazines haven't (big surprise there,lol)).
i don't have any news to report tonight. just dropping in to say hello to everyone. happy wednesday!
oh, and in the great crawfish debate, i grew up on the MS gulf coast and in LA. we used to have crawfish boils on the beach. Sometimes a yankee tourist or two would stumble in to see what was going on. my brother and i took great pleasure in showing them how to eat crawfish..."snap them apart, then you bite the tail and suck the heads." then we would watch them turn green and stumble out of the tent. rflmao! (no disrespect meant for yankees, current or otherwise in this post.)

MS...sorry about ur light problem,I had a tire,wheel and mounting come off on a high way to nowhere with 6 horses in the trailer.I was not a happy camper at all.

i use chopsticks at home for all sorts of foods AND at faux-Chinese restaurants. hen hao! (very good to use) Those who use them only at faux-Chinese restaurants probably do b/c they feel culturally obligated or possibly just to show off.

ahh lol . ty Lady Wu .. on the chop stick thing. I know im guilty of using them at the just the restaurants, i have some nice ones at home, i LOVE sushi.. and will use them when i eat that...there's a couple awsome places to get very very fresh sushi in Buffalo I can take home.... hmmmmm dont know why i dont use them for anything else. I do find that eating with them, you take smaller bites which makes you eat slower and is better for the digestive system i guess.. lol

well dash lights and buzzers are temporialy fixed.... i have a doc appointment at home for firday sooooooo will have to drop the truck off at my boss's place to get somethings worked on.

OK soooooo I started a new job today at a new daycare center. Thought this plcace would be better. Well, guess what, it's worse in different ways!:blink: Horrible. They don't care about the kids... not enough toys, no appropriate books, not enough supplies AND they want me to lie to the parents! REALLY???!!! Shit... They have premade lesson plans. Then we write them up for the week and put that in the kids daily papers. HAVE to write what they want...trouble is, what they write can't possilbly be done because they don't have what is written there in the school. It is not available. But still have to tell the parents that we did it. sigh Been crying since I got home. :linus: Why don't ppl care about little kids anymore? They are NOT just a way to make money!!!!! Shit to hell

Ruthie, that is so horrible about the daycare. It costs so little to do things with kids, why are basic supplies not provided? Is there anywhere online to write an expose to alert parents. I am thinking of of those "how do you rate this business" websites.

ok really???!!! New job sucks, and now my Mother is making me crazy. She made me so angry tonight.. Never knew her to be spiteful, but she is being spiteful now. :argue: I sooooooo regret buying a house with her. I wish I never did!! She is so different from what I knew as a kid and what she has shown me since I left home. I would have never guessed. I need SOMETHING good to happen. I am at my wits end I swear. Shit.. One bad thing after another and another and another... :titantic:

The most scary thing for me is fear of falling. I don't know why, maybe I spent too many years as a geriatric social worker. I fell on Thursday. Even 10 years ago I would have just been embarrassed and picked my self up. Now before I picked myself up I checked for anything possibly broken or splintered. I am sore from neck to toe (nothing broken or sprained just battered, rug burned and bruised) but it scared me. I have no idea why I am telling you this. LOL My bones feel ancient today. heh

Ouch Isadora. Thank goodness no broken bones or bad sprains. I have the same fear of falling too. Nothing heals fast anymore. It took a year the last time I fell for those aches, bumps and little muscle pulls to work out and get my strength back. The new scare with taking the osteoporosis prevention drugs is brittle bones that shatter. I'm taking a calcium and mineral supplement now, maybe too late, but I hope it helps.

I never worried about falling untill a fue years ago,when a simple slip trashed my knee and back.The doc thought it was just bruses and a sprain.the knee got better but the back took a good hit.many years of rideing show horses had slightly bludged a disk,tho it wasnt a prob to speak of.Then I fell flat on my butt and hit hard and really did it good that time.

It's been a while old beans, I hope everyone is feelin' dandy now the spring is really upon us. Don't you love the bursting forth of cherry blossom and the first horse chestnut tree leaves? (well here in the UK anyway)...and spring lambs gamboling in fields, racing up and down having a rare old time.

What heralds spring?
hockey playoffs! Hoping the Detroit Red Wings do well.
Allergies. I don't suffer much, other than some headaches and a stuffed nose, but it really is annoying.
Putting the woolies away! Actually - we enjoyed a mostly mild winter so I didn't need the sweaters like I usually do.
Family. In the spring I do a bit of travelling and visit my nephew and his family. Always an enjoyable time.

ahaa I forgot the major sports; here it's the F.A Cup (or whatever they call it nowadays), major domestic soccer championships. Oh yes, putting the heavier of the winter wear away is always good too. Have you had your spring trip to see your nephew?

Incubus - I'm enjoying my visit right now! Matter of fact - I just extended my time here. We've been busy, busy, busy - seeing the sights, going places. Plus you add in the activites for his daughters. Having a great time.
I've been to London a few times. Once I was lucky enough to see a women's FA Cup final - I remember one of the teams was Everton. A good time.

Fever - sorry my friend, I'm unable to visit BC anytime soon. Hope to someday. My family is in southern California. Beautiful weather here - except for the earthquakes. Apparently there was an aftershock last night - but I slept through it.
Oh my! Lilacs are one of my faves! When I was a kid we had a row of lilac bushes growing by the house. I remember them being quite tall. Sadly, they are no longer there.
