I'm currently working for a huge Texas company, and with a confirmed virus in my county, I just received a travel survey from work.
Asking if we have traveled to certain areas, plan to have visitors or what travel plans we might have.
I think they are just getting info on what's going on with all of us.
Makes me feel like I'm being looked after with my employer.

- Getting my driver's license renewed
- How to get my house clean before my sister sees it
- Some trees that are leaning precariously toward my house and need to be cut down
- Why was I dumb enough to order groceries to pick up on a day that's raining cats and dogs?
- Need to look into changing house insurance companies
- Need to get some minor repairs done to the house.
- Need to get my house assessed.
- Getting a new surgery date and an approval letter from Aetna.
- How long before I can get a dog?
- Hoping I will have some time and the ability to do some of these things while I am recovering.
I have a lot on my mind. I have drugs for that, to keep them from just spinning-spinning-spinning around in my brain in a never-ending vortex, but they seem to not be working as well lately.

Managing a very transient cooperative living building with impending Coronovirus ... we're not prepared. I'm seeking an executive meeting today to discuss that and how to handle if staff are quarantined since we have two buildings that are supposed to be staffed 24/7 housing 95 women and children at a time. We're having trouble getting supplies we need for sanitation and prevention.

What the next few months will look like in the US and how that will impact us.
I'm not so much worried about contracting the virus myself but since I take care of my elderly parents I have to take measures to not expose them. I work with a population of women who often have compromised immune systems and I need to consider that too.
Me and my Daddy are supposed to go on a big bike tour in June in the midwest. A 500 mile ride with about 1000 people from all over the place. We are going to watch the statistics and see if we would be wise to change our plans this year. We have been training for the ride since November so we're pumped but there are a lot of other rides we could do that would have less potential to put us in a quarantine.

Lately I have been wondering if I should sign up for a "round the world ' First Class Cruise in a luxury stateroom with a huge outside balcony on the top deck. Probably get the run of the ship and eat limitless amounts of seafood, caviar and wagyu steak.
I'm thinking I could get one now for the price of a one-night stay in a Motel Six.

Here's an amazing fact:
The most recent study from the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon Conwell puts the number of Christian denominations and sects at 43,000.
Could be a good conversation here.
It might make for a good conversation, the topic of discussion you propose, but maybe we could think of it in terms of A) a new subplot for the film called "Analyze That" or B) a new way of looking at how many people fell for a ton of crap from a not well polished pulpit which stopped the members of all 43K sects of failing religious tenets to see the biggo red flag which could have spared them from falling for all that disinformation campaign.
Btw, how are you these days?

To be compliant with Wolfy's thread, here is what has been on my mind (lately):
I think this whole Covid-19 thing is a sham. I think the dirty rotten scoundrels of the GOP are cashing in on people's fears: People who believe everything they read in the news and that because people are afraid of catching some virus, of millions of viruses already on earth and online (the Web),that they will rob everyone of their secret stash of cash, right in plain sight.
Cash based prejudice. If there is such a thing, which I am sure there is.
Just look at how the Republicans and their sort are coming up with evil ways of robbing everyone of any source of income that some people might have available to spend.
I know, I know, I should find better things to think about.

There are always people who will take advantage of a situation that is bad for other people - like people who raise gas prices in a crisis. In this case, I do think "the Republicans and their sort" are looking for a way to spin COVID-19 that is to their advantage.
I get a lot of my news from the BBC - I don't know that they are especially any more honest than other media folk, but it is a way to get a different view of what other people in the world (not Americans) think is important at the moment. The BBC has been covering COVID-19 heavily since its outbreak in China.
Tonight I was listening to a BBC program called "Over To You", in which listeners call in and ask questions about a theme. The theme this week was "How is the BBC's news agenda decided?" and they addressed some of the topics I have seen come up in this thread. It was recorded this past Wednesday, so the main topic at their editorial morning meeting was COVID-19. They noted that this story has been the top headline for several weeks now, and will probably continue to be for awhile. There were two callers from the U.S. - one who thought the BBC's presentation of the news was well-balanced and one who thought the language was "too alarmist" and is causing panic rather than helping people take precautions. Someone from another country also said that perhaps the stories are too alarming. The BBC host pointed out that their coverage of the virus has changed somewhat over time.
The BBC host also spoke about statistics and information gathering that they do to see what kind of news people are aware of, i.e. what they're absorbing from the news and their environment, and trying to supplement that in the upcoming news with the most important FAQs. (Right now there are lots of hand-washing stories . . .)
A gentleman from India suggested that they should have more success stories about people who have survived COVID-19 to raise hope and reduce the fear-mongering. The BBC host explained that this kind of story has been difficult to get, because anyone who tests positive for the virus is quarantined for 14 days, and that time period is only just now ending for the people who first got it. They did say they have been able to get those kind of stories for a couple of days now, and the reporters are all trying to get these stories.
Just a few interesting thoughts. If you're interested, the show is called "Over To You" and they have a podcast by the same name. This was the 3/7/2020 episode.

I may have to step out and get greens this week while they are still available.
The grocery stores I have been to are putting a purchase limit of 2 per item so people don't hoard. Not sure if all the grocery stores are doing this here but the two that I frequent are. The 2 per item limit doesn't bother me as much as the crazy line ups that wrap around the building of people waiting to get in. I hope that it's not always going to be like this.

There will probably be 10 of us here today.
The cleaning crew is still coming in the evenings cleaning our offices and the company hired someone to come in during the day and sanitize the common areas.
I'm still sanitizing areas like a mad woman, have unused disposable rubber gloves on me and in the office, along with the wipes the cleaning crew gave me a week or so ago.
I came in the office because we had problems yesterday with a project I'm working on and trying to fix it from home damn near broke me. I was so frustrated I had a cigarette hoping it would chill me out. It didn't. I ended up frustrated, angry, and dizzy.

‘Deeply sorry’ Lady Antebellum changes name due to associations with slavery: ‘We have been awakened’

After 14 years and eight album releases, Grammy-winning country trio Lady Antebellum has officially changed its name, dropping the “Antebellum” due to “associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery.” From now on, the band will officially go by its longtime nickname, Lady A.

Got a good health report from my doctor. Lost 15 lbs since my last visit. Bones are in “great“ shape, calcium output is much better, the ultrasound picked up a pinpoint on a parathyroid, but nothing to be concerned about for now—that explains the increase in calcium output. Will keep an eye on the my calcium through blood tests. Sugar is good. Blood pressure was high but I’ve been eating more salt than usual. Will work on that.

We finally opened Bevi's "front of the store". Fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, turkey and ham grinders. We are just trying to get things down and learn as we go. People loved the beer battered fries. This is going to be a huge learning curve and food service is way out of my league. Ok, not the service, I can throw things in a fryer and set a timer but trying to price food fair to both the store and the customers is what I am talking about. I am sure we will do well with this endeavor but it was a little nerve wracking today.

I am sure it is unnerving here in the beginning but once you two get your footing and a feel for it, know what is fair to charge and and still be worthy of the time you put into it all, you will become comfortable with this venture. I believe it will be successful. People love to eat! Just don't make your prices too low ... take into consideration everything that is a cost to you like cooking oil, batter you put over certain things before you cook them - you know what I mean.
Best wishes on this endeavor!

Ok, not the service, I can throw things in a fryer and set a timer but trying to price food fair to both the store and the customers is what I am talking about. I am sure we will do well with this endeavor but it was a little nerve wracking today.
Sends you & Bevi good juju for a successful venue. When gets cooler, I am certain grilled cheeses & soups will be very popular! Best of luck on your new venture!!

How long does it take to adjust to a new time zone??
How long does it take to adjust to a new time zone??
My last two moves only involved one time zone and I kept commuting back-and-forth across it barely noticing.
What was harder for me was latitude because it changes the length of day so much. I guess it’s a matter of how many time zones and whether or not you’re going more side to side or up-and-down!

I need to decide if I’m going to stay here or move. If I move I think I want to move home to Michigan. I love Detroit and Michigan, but do I really want to deal with the snow?
I think the only way I could move to Michigan is if I lived in a single-story condo with an attached garage. That would solve some of the challenges I’d have.
If I move I have two pieces of furniture I must take with me. A radio and a long church pew:

Anything else I wouldn’t mind selling. I have a year or two before I need to decide but I need to start thinking or plotting this out now.
Maybe i could have these items shipped to me and sell everything else.
Do I really want to do a cross-country move?

I need to decide if I’m going to stay here or move. If I move I think I want to move home to Michigan. I love Detroit and Michigan, but do I really want to deal with the snow? No one that spends more than 20 minutes in snow and ice or is over the age of 12 'wants' to deal with it. And that creeping ice thing is, well, creepy.

No one really wants to do a cross-country move but I've done 3 of them with varying degrees of success. If you do opt to ship your super gorgeous items read the contract very, very carefully. A lot of companies will pay for damages, providing you can find someone to provide an estimate to repair and you can show them comps for the same type of product. None of them that I have dealt with have paid for missing items. Both of my mover moves have resulted in lost items. The one I did myself did not.
If it were me, I'd package them up like you are expecting them to get through an earthquake and then pay someone to load up the truck nicely for me and drive myself there. Of course, if you aren't comfortable with a dolly for your vehicle, then that might not work.
My theory is usually 'I'll know it'll get done right if I do it myself'.
Whatever option you choose, definitely bombard the shipping/moving companies with a ton of questions about their process, fees, and the 1001 what ifs that could happen. If you seem like you'll ride their butt the whole time, they may take more care with your items just to avoid problems with you.

This photo is something I pulled off the internet, but I just added a photo of my radio in the gallery. It's not nearly as pristine as this one (it needs some knobs and a good buffing) but it's very special to me and represents some wonderful times.
The photo in the gallery was made in 1948, I think. The radio worked when I bought it in 1981 but it picked up weird frequencies (Radio America). It's stopped working over the years and with many moves but I think it could be put in working condition. Though, I'm just happy with it as it is. It's a comfort for me—seeing it and knowing it's nearby soothes me.
Maybe one day I'll be ready to give it up, but not yet.

Thank you so much for this valuable information. I did a cross country move once with a major moving company and it went relatively well. Few things were missing, they were late, but we hit a snow storm in Flagstaff, we paid an arm and an leg.
I don't have an arm and a leg to give this time so I'm lookin for less expensive ways to make this happen if I decide to move. Thank you again.

Friends star Jane Sibbett talks homophobia, Donald Trump, and the queer spinoff we deserve..
The One with the Lesbian Wedding hit screens in January 1996 and marked a milestone for queer communities worldwide, the effects of which are still being felt today.
More than two decades later, fans still seek out Sibbett and her on-screen wife, Jessica Hecht, to sing their praises and thank them for their cultural impact.
Vocal advocates for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, Sibbett and Hecht are using their platform as the first queer brides of the small screen to campaign for change.
“It never occurred to me when we began Friends that we would be dealing with this here, 26 years later … and we’re having these conversations still,” Sibbett said.
“I mean certainly with Trump and his people here, it’s sliding backwards and I couldn’t even imagine that would happen … we still have a ways to go.
“My sweet [on-screen] wife and I have been doing lots of campaigning for Joe Biden because we do not need a dictator. We really actually want a president, so we’re looking for a healthier way forward.
“If you’re going to have any type of platform, it is the time to move forward because to continue on this way, with this President, we’re just going backwards to the ’50s.”

My knees are on my mind.
I have a Genu Valgum (knock-knees) and it’s become severe with arthritis. Fortunately, knee-replacement and correction surgery can solve this problem.
One of the best things I’ve done is getting the exercise bike. Already I’ve noticed a big improvement. I’ll still need surgery but I won’t do any more damage and my recovery rate shouldn’t be too bad. Will stick with the exercises and weight loss since it’s helping so much.
I just don’t know when I’ll be able to have the surgery with COVID-19. I’ll talk with my doctor about it.

PROTOCOLS OF ZION-->QANON-->DONALD TRUMP-->FASCHIST USA
The Conspiracy Theory to Rule Them All
What explains the strange, long life of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion?
The modern world’s most consequential conspiracy text was barely noticed when it first appeared in a little-read Russian newspaper in 1903. The message of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is straightforward, and terrifying: The rise of liberalism had provided Jews with the tools to destroy institutions—the nobility, the church, the sanctity of marriage—whole. Soon, they would take control of the world, as part of a revenge plot dating back to the ascendancy of Christendom. The text, ostensibly narrated by a Jewish leader, describes this plan in detail, relying on centuries-old anti-Jewish tropes, and including lengthy expositions on monetary, media, and electoral manipulation. It announces Jewry’s triumph as imminent: The world order will fall into the hands of a cunning elite, who have schemed forever and are now fated to rule until the end of time.
It has enjoyed a remarkable appeal, despite various attempts to ban it and calls for individuals to denounce it—and now, in our conspiracy-saturated moment, it has decisively reemerged.
The book sells widely in Turkey, Syria, and Japan; remains a staple of Russian Orthodox bookshops; and in 2002, was the subject of a long-running Egyptian television series. It is widely available on eBay and on the Barnes & Noble website. The British charity Oxfam sold it on its site until March of this year. When asked by The New York Times in 2018 to name the books at her bedside, Alice Walker listed David Icke’s And the Truth Will Set You Free, a contemporary summary of The Protocols. At a 2019 congressional hearing, the former National Security Council official Fiona Hill described The Protocols’ image of a greedy, devious Jew as “the longest-running anti-Semitic trope we have.” Last week, when an automated Twitter bot managed by the FBI posted a 139-page file containing the text and the agency’s documents on it, hate-filled praise streamed in alongside the replies condemning the tweet for its lack of context. For devotees, The Protocols’ capacity to explain the world remains so resonant that the COVID-19 pandemic has now been blamed on the machinations of the ubiquitous Jewish elders.
A mountain of writings has surfaced over the past century and more, each devoted to revealing the supposed perfidy of the Jews. But nearly all have disappeared: The back shelves of research libraries are packed with anti-Semitic best sellers now turned to dust. (Who still reads Houston Stewart Chamberlain’s The Foundations of the Nineteenth Century, a massive best seller celebrated by George Bernard Shaw at the time of its publication in 1899 as a “masterpiece”?) Even Hitler’s Mein Kampf is rarely cited, though it remains a favorite of the Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan and in a newly energized far right.
But The Protocols has survived, more so than any other text of its kind. It has done so not because its ideas are particularly original, and certainly not because they’re correct. It has done so for the simple reason that The Protocols is, curiously enough, a compelling read. Conspiracy theories are many things, but most of all, they’re narratives—understandable, comprehensive stories about how the world works, complete with the arcs and the rhythms of any other epic tale of heroes and villains. Part of what makes certain ones endure is how well they unfurl that story.
The Protocols’ voice is cool, patronizing, vile; the voice of someone who is ready to perform any task, however dastardly, in the march toward world domination. This, then, is no secondary source, unlike other familiar, formulaic expressions of anti-Semitism, but a chance to overhear a consequential Jewish leader plotting the fate of the world. This narrative immediacy is the difference between a newspaper article and a novel, between remove and urgency. The Protocols is not, purportedly, mere narration of a diabolical plot—it’s evidence of one. It projects authority by obscuring its authorship, not unlike various religious texts—or, to use a much more recent and pertinent example, the anonymous dispatches that form the foundation of QAnon.
And beneath its wild, hate-filled surface, The Protocols has a surprisingly solid, if plagiarized, core. Joly’s source material is an astute portrait of modernity’s ills, imagining a collision between (the well-meaning, but inadequate) Montesquieu and (the brilliant, immeasurably more persuasive) Machiavelli, and ultimately reveals the susceptibility of liberal society to manipulation and distraction using war, or greed, or the clouds of nostalgia. It was a prescient view of the world, as the political theorist Hans Speier has said, one that perceived “the hazards of popular sovereignty as well as the abuse of power by social engineers.” Nearly everything about The Protocols is wrong, but just enough about its depiction of the onset of totalitarianism is insightful that it is harder to dismiss than other, more outlandish conspiracy theories.
And though its most fervent following is on the far right, the text itself is without any emphatic leftist or rightist coloring. This is why it can be embraced as it is today by disparate groups such as evangelicals, neo-Nazis, some anti-Israel activists, and a slice of black-metal fans. It is endlessly versatile, a Rorschach test onto which a great assortment of convictions can readily be sketched.
Perhaps the finest of all scholars writing today about The Protocols is Michael Hagemeister, a mild, left-leaning German based at the Ruhr University in Bochum.
To Hagemeister, the plot laid out in The Protocols seemed no more current than the fear of the Illuminati or the Freemasons, the stuff of a Dan Brown bestseller. Its fortune has risen considerably since. Having now spent 30 years studying the text, Hagemeister told me recently that he isn’t surprised that it’s been used to explain the pandemic. The Protocols feels all the more pertinent, he added, at moments of crisis such as this one, when the righteous are urged to close their ranks to repel the enemy—a strategy the book suggests could effectively stop the Jews. Like QAnon’s missives or some of the finest novels, The Protocols is a narrative about the crucial moment just before cataclysm, and the notion that those horrors can still be averted with a swift and unequivocal response.
The belief captured by The Protocols that the world is in the clutches of a cabal—mighty, yet small enough to fit itself into the discreet, darkened corner of a club—certainly isn’t the sole possession of those who loathe Jews. But Jews, whether in the guise of Soros or Rothschild, Disraeli or Marx, provide a time-tested, biblically vetted vortex. And at a jittery moment such as ours, when it’s so easy to feel the world is cascading out of control, it’s revealing that The Protocols has shed its archaic feel.

Depends on the snow. Here, it doesn't melt. It refreezes because it's almost always wet and cold. Lots of black ice here. Denver, on the other hand, is a higher elevation, so it does melt very quickly. The season between 2014-2015 was a killer here. We had to bring machines in to stack the snow to get it off the ground. It was packed so tightly that some of it didn't melt until June. No joke.
We had newscasts like this the whole winter!

Local shops are going to have the best stuff for the environment in which they exist. The good news is that you will only need to get enough stuff to run errands and walk about in the weather. You won't have to dress to work in it.
Your blood is thinner now so you'll get colder faster. It took me a couple of years to adapt from Texas to Rhode Island. A quality thick blanket on the bed makes alllll the difference. Maybe a weighted one?

Am thinking about pillows because lately I’ve been waking up with a sore neck. Have tried a couple new pillows but returned them because they were too soft. I like medium-firm pillows and I think I need something softer, but not as soft as I’ve been trying out. Will keep testing till I find one I like that is affordable.

I hate to say this, as the owner of the company is a Cheetoh buttmuncher, but I had the same problem with pillows not fitting my neck and head right. I would get one and it would either not work at all right away or would be decent enough to keep but then it just wouldn't seem to work after some time. The only pillow that works for me 100% is the MyPillow. I bought it before I knew the CEO's political leanings and oleandrin pushing. I think a similar result can be garnered by cutting up foam into small pieces and stuffing a case with it. Basically, a trip to JoAnn's Fabrics should do it.

I’m moving back to Michigan, I think.
I’m leaving California and am almost certain I’ll move back to Michigan. Just have to find what I want (a nice single-level condo) in a city I like.
I was considering the upper peninsular, but too many bears in that area (thanks for the reminder, Homoe!).
I haven’t been in the snow for decades, and am a little concerned about that, but I want to go home. Snow or not.

Unexpected challenges.
I knew I had to repair the drywall in the bathroom but didn't know there was an exhaust sewer pipe that needed to be glued. The job will take a few hours longer and be costlier.
i have a stain on the laminate flooring in another room where my lazy behind didn't protect it when I should have.
The floor in that room will need replacing but I don't wanna pull up the flooring and replace it in case another surprise is waiting for me. I'll just make full disclosure and give them a buyer credit. Maybe they'll do like me and cover it with an area rug.

Am trying another pillow now. My neck and shoulder are hurting this morning but I moved heavy furniture around a lot yesterday. Will keep testing this pillow till Monday when two more pillows are coming. If the ones coming on Monday don’t work I will move on to these. I like that I have 100 days to try it out and free US shipping. I can work with that.
Thanks for thinking of me, Gemme, and good luck with the cilantro. That would have perfect on my rice last night!

You're welcome. The ad popped up while perusing YouTube and I was like, heyyyyyy, that sounds promising so I went to their website and it seems like a nice alternative to the usual fare.
Blech. I'm not a fan of the c word. Stuff tastes like dirty dishwater to me. Usually it's cut up small enough that I don't really notice but this brand (Taylor Farms) puts extra in it.
On my mind right now is relief. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. There's a LOT of work to do to undo and redirect the hate that's out there but I feel we....the human race....have a chance with Joe and Kamala.

Trivia!
I came across an interesting fact while recently getting the results from my DNA testing. It turns out that approximately 17% of the population has a genetic mutation that makes cilantro taste like soap for people with that variant. I’ve always thought it strange that the people who didn’t like it really didn’t like it, so now I know.
Confirmed. Gemme is a cilantro mutant!

'tis true, it is! Cilantro is my nemesis. I've read the same thing. Britannica Online says:
Cilantro (aka the leaves of the coriander plant) is a tasty herb to most people. A pleasing combination of flavors reminiscent of parsley and citrus, the herb is a common ingredient in many cuisines around the world.
However, some people find cilantro revolting, including, famously, the chef Julia Child. Of course some of this dislike may come down to simple preference, but for those cilantro-haters for whom the plant tastes like soap, the issue is genetic. These people have a variation in a group of olfactory-receptor genes that allows them to strongly perceive the soapy-flavored aldehydes in cilantro leaves. This genetic quirk is usually only found in a small percent of the population, though it varies geographically.
Interestingly, places where cilantro is especially popular, such as Central America and India, have fewer people with these genes, which might explain how the herb was able to become such a mainstay in those regions. East Asians have the highest incidence of this variation, with some studies showing that nearly 20% of the population experiences soapy-tasting cilantro.
There is some evidence that cilantrophobes can overcome their aversion with repeated exposure to the herb, especially if it is crushed rather than served whole, but many people simply choose to go with their genetic inclinations and avoid its soapiness altogether.
To that I say, nope. I'm okay with being in the same group as Julia Child.
This Andrea Gibson post everyone is sharing is on my mind. It still breaks my heart that 70 million people support a man who believes the United States is only for certain people, the rest of us are not welcome. Reading this made my heart feel a little less broken. Civility and compassion is back in the White House. We can all miss the Obamas a little less desperately. I agree, yes, let's leave the light on for each other.
Andrea Gibson-
"When President Obama was in office, I was invited to the White House with a group of teens I had helped select as our National Student Poets. We were in a small room with Michelle Obama.
The students were very excited, but also extremely nervous. Recognizing this, the First Lady began telling the story of her family’s first day in the White House. She described the thrill, but also described how her family felt out of place as they walked through the halls terrified to touch anything. As she shared the details, I watched the students’ shoulders relax in unison.
That moment has never left me because there was so much care in the way she held compassion for the students' fears that they might not belong. So much grace in her awareness of how many people live with the feeling of being unwelcome outsiders.
The Trump administration built its “legacy” on telling marginalized people that they do not belong in the U.S. For 4 years they tore the welcome mats out from under the feet of people whose toes were just beginning to find the tiniest corners to stand on.
I celebrate today for many reasons, but one is faith that we are in the midst of a movement invested in building the biggest porchlight for each other that we possibly can. I believe in the light we are creating, and am so grateful we are here together."

My digestive system. There is a limit to how much roughage and raw foods I can eat. It's really not much at all. I can have one large salad as a meal and be okay, but any more in the same day and I will not be able to digest it. I can have small servings about 3-4 times, and then I will not be able to digest. What do I eat to get my system under control again? Pizza. Canned soup. PB & J. Ice cream. Cheeseburgers. Highly processed foods straighten out my system and keep it operating efficiently, against all conventional good advice. I'm sure I did this to myself by eating too many highly processed foods in the first place.

I once lost 4 fur babies when I broke up with an ex, too. Never again. When I think back on my exes, I always think of her as the one who tore my family apart.
Gosh, that song made me cry.

This is really interesting to me because that's what happens to me. I cannot eat too much raw vegetables even cooked has it's limits. I love broccoli especially raw broccoli, it's my fav with hummus, but raw is particularly problematic. I can get away with a little cooked but not like I used to eat it. I wouldn't blame yourself because processed food was not on my menu much for years. I was a vegetarian in my younger days and grazed all day long. I love almost every kind of vegetable, although I only like raw spinach and don't care for beets. I am a huge fan of beans, seeds and nuts. Now they are an issue if I eat too many. I can't have the huge salads I love with all kinds of veggies and chick peas and/or beans added with seeds and nuts sprinkled in for fun. I told my doctor my stomach likes processed food now and hates veggies and she just rolled her eyes. It sucks but I have to be very careful. Half the time I eat my hummus with pita or crackers and leave out any vegetable but raw carrots. They seem to work okay most of the time. It's frustrating not to be able to eat the foods you love in the quantities you are used to. I even have to be careful with peanut butter. But ice cream is not an issue at all, ever, and I suppose that's something. It's good to know it's not just me though.

Wondering how long we have until NY locks down again. At least we are better prepared now at work and I have backup staff so I won't have to go back to 10 hour shifts 7 days a week. Goal is for me to work from home 50% of the time. At first I resisted, thinking that no, I have to be there. Then I thought about the peace I need and working from home half time feels dreamy. I'm also thinking about how glad I am that I'm not one of the people who will be working from home with a toddler or baby needing my attention when daycares close again.

Going back to work after all this time off.
I'm sleeping a bit less these days, and I'm able to sit up and use the computer. My dressings don't require changing as often. So a reasonable person would probably think I could return to work, four hours a day, working from home. I'm not so sure. Towards the end of when I was working before, I spent about half my worktime napping. Hopefully I'm better now than I was then, but it's difficult for me to really tell. I will certainly give it a try.
Thank goodness my boss agreed to me working from home. She's in the office every day, so I had thought she might insist that I go in. But no, seems she's prepared to be reasonable.

Okay, so Dear Wife and I broke down and bought one of those new Sleep Number 360 smart beds. She has back issues from her 30+ years as a Paramedic/EMT and, well, my knees are absolutely trashed. We thought we both might be more comfy in one of these beds, so we bought a king sized one. I had no idea these beds cost upwards of $10K, once one buys all of the bedding and accessories!! All's I could hear in my head, as I was signing the purchase order, was my mother's voice saying, "Guns or Butter??", when it comes to monetary decision making. I don't know about most of you, but in MY world, my sleep is definitely GUNS!! In other words, it is a priority and one on which I will spend money and not "cheap out" on. So, a day after we returned from vacation, they delivered and set up the new bed. Dear Wife and I have separate ideas about what comprises the concept of a "comfortable" bed, when it comes to firmness and such, so we bought the split pattern, which means that our bed is, essentially, two single beds/mattresses that are independent of each other for settings, firmness, etc., and we are each able to make our own settings and adjustments to our half of the bed according to our individual tastes and comfort levels. One thing I am able to do, however, is to use my remote control to raise the head of her side of the bed to alleviate her snoring!!! I don't snore. I use CPAP.
I think this bed does just about everything, short of mixing you a drink. Supposedly it tells you about your sleep habits, how "restless" you are, your heart and respiratory rate (I think this is bogus, btw) and how "restful" your sleep cycle was. The bed lies. Yes, it lies. It said that, last night, it took me a little over 2 hours to go to sleep. That's bullshit. Anyone and everyone who knows me or has slept with me knows that I'm asleep the minute my head hits the pillow and I can sleep through any noise or disruption. How does this bed know wtf I am doing and whether or not I am asleep?? What about our cats?? Our 3 cats sleep in the bed with us and our 18 lb "bubba cat" sleeps between my legs. What if they are up and walking around on my side of the bed?? Our bed lies. Yes, it lies.
The other thing this crazy bed does has to do with heat. It has a built in heat pad at the feet. I guess this is somewhat comforting and/or relaxing to a lot of folks, but not me. I am constantly hot. I don't cuddle with my beautiful wife because I'm just simply too damned hot.
Does anyone out there have one of these beds?? What's your experience with it??

The garage needs to be bombed with heat. I’m worried because I already have some packed boxes in the garage. The termite guy says it shouldn’t harm anything, but I don’t know.

I’ve always followed the rule of thumb that wherever your body touches down is where you spend money. Shoes, mattresses, sofas and chairs.
So, other than raise and lower functions, how do you like it? Have you found a combination of settings they give you the best sleep you’ve ever had? For that price tag it certainly should!
It sounds like your bed uses a motion sensor for sleep tracking and it probably is tracking how long it took the cat to go to sleep, LOL…

Sorry you're having to go through this. It's a pain.
I don't know either, but I have had a heat treatment in my house before. There are certain things you can't have inside:
- alcohol - it will boil and explode - this includes anything with alcohol in it, like perfume
- aerosol cans - again with the exploding
- candles and anything with wax, like crayons - they will melt
- some types of fragile plastic items will melt
I would give some serious thought to what you have packed in the garage. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Health
Got an excellent report from the doctor yesterday. HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, Blood Pressure, Calcium, Iron, etc. ALL numbers were very good and I shouldn’t change anything. He even told me to stop taking the Zetia prescription. The weight loss and exercise is paying off.
The Move
Frustrated because I’m not close to closing a deal on selling or buying a place. I’ve placed offers on two condos. Was outbid on both and didn’t put an offer on another because my mortgage guy didn’t like the tax rate and HOA fee. If he doesn’t like it, then I don’t like it. Also, I’m looking for a place that’s less than 1000 sq ft. Most places I like in Michigan start at 1100 sq ft and that doesnt include the finished basements. You get a lot of bang for your buck in Michigan, but I don’t want all that.
Also frustrated because someone placed an offer on my condo and pulled out. What bothered me is when she placed her offer she wrote me a 6 paragraph letter, including photos of her and her doggone kitty cat, telling me why I should choose her over other offers (which I did) and why she wanted to live in my place. I just knew I had a deal. Then she pulled out right before inspection saying she was now thinking of moving out of state. I got another offer, but I didn’t like that roller coaster ride at all.
Really frustrated because e’rybody and their mama is moving right now and I didn’t expect that in November and December, but this is 2020 and I should expect no less, I guess.
I try not to get emotionally attached to a buyer or condo, but sometimes it’s hard.

I received a call from my high school bestie wanting to share some information that has recently came to light. Amazing, interesting discovery and a definite wow. Happened 40 years ago and I was there.
We are such good friends. You know the kind that can not talk but just pick up where we left off. I love her dearly and I'm the G-ma to her daughter.
This information will be on my mind for awhile. More discovery in the coming weeks.
Orema- I learned a little about buyers letters when I bought this last house that I’m in now. When I was placing my offer my broker sent me a bullet list of about 10 topics and asked me to write two or three sentences on each. I did and she use that as the basis to construct my buyers letter, I didn’t write it but it was based on what I had written generically. Straight up marketing, kind of like the write up on the house this was a write up on the buyer intended to influence. Apparently it worked as intended since when I flew in for inspections and met the sellers they seemed predisposed to like me right off and mentioned the letter a couple of times. To this day I have never seen the letter and I don’t know exactly what it said.
I hope your agent is similarly marketing you to the sellers when you place your bids. It’s a bit tougher when doing this cross country because nobody’s had a chance to meet you and get a feel for who you are as opposed to the people who are standing right in front of them. The letter idea seems pretty silly to me but I guess it’s fairly standard nowadays. Best of luck to you.

I had no idea. Thank you, Kelt. I think the letter I received was a combination of a standard buyer’s letter (that she sends to everyone) combined with sentences specific to my place. Now it makes sense.
I wonder why my realtor seemed clueless and it’s nothing my Michigan realtor has mentioned, but things are flying off the shelf quickly in Michigan. My intent is to go there for the inspection but we’ve yet to get that far in any of my searches. I’ll speak with both realtors.
Thanks again, Kelt, for the information and good wishes.

Congrats on finding a pillow, Orema! Being able to sleep soundly and without injury is paramount to good health. Also YAY for good news from the doc and kicking cholesterol's butt!
Kelt's right; it's all marketing now. It wouldn't hurt to draw up a letter and give it to your Michigan Realtor. Anything that can humanize you (versus them looking at you only like a paycheck) can only help your cause when there are multiple bids on a place you like.
Be patient! There's a reason those places went to someone else. Yours is waiting for you when the moment is right. I have faith that you will find a place that you absolutely love.
COVID has changed everything. As far as your buyer that backed out, it might not be that she's flaky. Something completely unexpected could have happened and forced her to change her plans. Doesn't mean she didn't love your place as much as you once did.

Thank you. (f) I understand. I "got it" as soon as I read Kelt's words. I'll work on a letter later today. Maybe.
This is a totally different market than anything I've ever bought or sold in. I will adapt. I know I need to, but damn. I just want to sell and buy. I'm not asking for anything out of the ordinary. I'm not looking for people to bid on my place and I certainly don't want to bid on others.
I know, I need to adapt. I will.
I need vent, too.
Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I'll use it.

Legal access to weed, along with a superstore delivery nearby and snow removal, is a moving requirement.
Currently, I get the good stuff out of Humboldt county and wonder what I’ll find in Michigan. I don’t think it will be as good as the stuff that floats in this neck of the woods, but my budtenders say I shouldn’t notice a difference. They say the good stuff is all over the country. I’ont know.
I have a smallish greenhouse waiting to be assembled. I’ll grow my first crop since it’s allowed. Guess I should look for something with a basement afterall.

COVID – Several people I know are waiting for their results and my ex husband has tested positive. I didn't realize it would take so long to get the the results, especially at the drive up window place. LOL for some reason I guess I just had it in my mind it was like at McDonald's. Drive up, get what you came for and hopefully, ideally in under five minutes you drive away satisfied because you quickly got what you wanted.

I'm also looking for a new dentist. Only because I broke a cap.

THE CONDO
Have pulled my place off the market. Don’t want people tramplin’ in and out the femme cave during the holidays or during this lock-down. Will probably connect with differemt realtor after the new year. Just want to chill for the next couple weeks.
CANNA-BUTTER/OIL
Haven’t loss much weight this month but havnen’t gained. Wanted to use up some canna-butter and have been baking more than usual. Should probably freeze some of these keto goods instead of munching on them. Hope they taste good when thawed. Will start making canna-oil with coconut oil. That’s more useful than the butter. I no longer use the butter to sleep and the oil can be used for things other than edibles.
THE VACCINE
I’m gonna take it but I’m leery as fuck. Don’t like being the first on the medicine front, but I want to be protected. I’ll get it after my doctor gets it.
A KITTY
Of course I want a kitty now, but I know I should wait till I move because it will be easier for everyone—especially the kitty. I’ve been without one for this long so I can wait a little longer.

Please understand me, Admin-Medusa , I appreciate the cost and responsibility you have faithfully undertaken here but also also please also accept that if you claim this to be a "community",even if it were to be entirely supported by you (both in cash and effort ), it is necessary to accept the diversities of opinion (even when they are rudely at odds with each other---otherwise it's just maudlin echoes , so why bother..... one statement and a "thank you " would be enough.).
I suspect the site loses a great many more members because of making increasing voices become "polite" and, sometimes, agreeably female, than for extreme diversity. For every person who comes here for a lovely calming foccacia recipe, I suspect there is a loss of 1.5 members who would rather have a meaty sexy or politically hot convo.
Maybe it's time to jack it up and let blood flow into member's brains or choose to just sit here and watch it fall asleep.

A very intelligent post Collette ~ but as you know not all people can accept one's comments or "humble opinion's" as just that . Most people can't control the difference of "difference's ", with out over reacting ~ so they need to be monitored. I would not want to be that person who has to stand in judgement or what is right or wrong ~ I appreciate the differences. I learn from other's concepts. We all can learn or just accept. Keep thinking ~ it kicks out the dust lol :)

Want to differ, differ. Want to explode, explode. Can't stand the explosion, put it all on ignore.
You do actually have that option but the option you should not have is to tell other ppl to stfu or to not to explode in opinion just cause it "offends " you.
The Admin (Site Owner ) can do that but then it becomes a question of the degree of "community" a site becomes.
Surely there is a degree of accommodation that can be made to continue vitality, if that is in any way a desirable goal.
If one thread goes off the rails, you can always move to another but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to allow what happens in one thread to define everything else. As soon as people stop jumping in, that thread dies of lack of oxygen but ppl did get to vent out their thoughts and what's unhealthy about that.

Before you get kicked in the head I just want to say thank you. This needs to be said, stopping by four times a day just to be disappointed is pretty old. The old days were contentious but worth it for interesting conversation on a range of topics beyond “what’s for dinner”.
Last night I was on YouTube looking for anything on the topic of “Butch“ I posted that result in a different thread. Interestingly, I ran across a video from a few years ago made by an old member from this site. I remember how much I disliked her and in fact locked horns with her a couple of times both in the threads and in private message. It made me remember how aggravated I would get and how engaged I was with that community. I also learned a lot about things I never would’ve encountered anywhere else.
I don’t know that any of that is salvageable, just as it seems that the days of the butch/femme dynamic are gone. But having a place to post opinions on topics that are not part of main stream conversation away from the prying eyes of bosses and Auntie Pearl on Facebook would seem to still have some value. I may be wrong because I am not involved in other social media maybe it’s all just in private groups and that’s how it works now.

I wonder why people have stopped talking. Maybe all the older folks are all talked out and the younger folks are not interested in interacting in this way. Maybe it's private groups but I haven't found any that are active like this place was at one time. I know the butch/femme dynamic is not celebrated like it once was but there has to be butches and femmes around somewhere. I mean where did they all go? No next generation? We have died out like dinosaurs? Extinct? I mean we don't even have conversations about our imminent extinction and what happened. Where have all the butches gone?
Even if we don't want to talk about the butch/femme dynamic anymore we must have something to discuss. I mean beyond what we had for dinner and such. Maybe group conversations have gone the way of butches and the b-f dynamic. I doubt it's because we have to treat each other with respect when we argue. I mean we always had to do that. There never was a free for all on this site and people still talked plenty and argued plenty. But maybe they have all joined an online fight club. We can't find it because the first rule of online fight club is you don't talk about online fight club.

One of my theory's in life I taught my daughters was that acceptance leaves room for forgiveness. It was what I practiced for strength to get through my childhood. I recognized acceptance from my education in private catholic schools . It wasn't from the bible or the teachers from nun's or priests. It was from quite the opposite ~ not wanting to be like they were. Non accepting , double standards . etc. School wasn't the only reason I felt the need to seek inner comfort and understanding. Integrity runs parallel with self confidence . With a closed mouth and open eyes you just know . Never to be confused with egotistical behavior. You can't see someone from the inside out when your focused on the outside. This is the time we have learned to hug one another , it being virtual let's everyone in :) , most are too shy or timid to make that gesture, I want to say ((((((( everyone ))))))))) I love people and I love all of you in OUR own community .

SNOW. We got like 2 feet of snow overnight and it's still coming down. It's over the top of my porch at this point.
My daughter- I like that we are both super early risers. She's in her own apartment now but we had fun texting about work/snow/wtf stuff at 5am.
COVID- we had another resident at work test positive yesterday but she hadn't been home in 10 days so I hope that means we avoid another quarantine. Quarantine when you live in a very small room and have to stage out sharing bathrooms and kitchen with 45 other women is a nightmare. For them to live and for me to manage.
Woodworking: I'm learning a lot and I LOVE IT. I'm becoming the woman who wakes before the sun to turn on NPR and start making sawdust. I have so many ideas and things I want to make.
Stay safe, everyone. Snow, COVID, the rest of the world. Stay safe please.
This is on my mind.
It seems that many people believe that diversity of opinion inevitably leads to rude interactions and nasty comments. I have never thought that was necessarily a given. Nor have I believed that a polite voice cannot be a dissenting voice. I don't have to be an asshole to disagree with something and to make my opinion understood. Of course there are some people who hear dissenting opinions as nasty comments. And the clearer you are and the more sense you make the more some people hear your words as disagreeable and nasty. There's really nothing that can be done about that. But most people can hear an opposing opinion without crumbling or resorting to mean and angry responses. I agree that it does take more effort to find polite ways to say I don't agree with you at all and here is why than it does to simply say you are wrong and what you're saying is stupid. It takes effort and commitment to find legitimate reasons why you believe someone's opinions are wrong. And it takes a desire to be civil to find ways to express those reasons that don't insinuate the person is stupid or horrible for having a different opinion than you do. I have noticed that some people simply turn a specific comment into something generic and say I read stuff that say that and i think it's stupid. It's an almost polite why of calling you stupid while getting around the TOS. I never believe that calling something stupid is a justification for why it isn't a legitimate opinion. A person should have valid reasons for the opinions they hold. If you are going to disagree with someone you should at least respect them enough as a human being to put a little time and effort into explaining why you disagree and not just say it's stupid.
As far as where all the deep and meaningful conversations have gone here on this site I have no idea. But I don't believe having to express yourself respectfully is the reason these conversations are far and few in between.

As an older friend who was a mother told me when I started feeling this way: "Your biological clock will stop doing this to you in a few years. On the other hand, if you have kids, you will have them for the rest of your life."

It seems to me that all the women who would have id'ed as butch in the past have now decided that they must be transgender. I don't know what's going on with the femmes - they're probably all wearing lululemons now if they have to go out and wearing pajamas all day with no make up while they work at home. I'm being kind of sarcastic, but . . . not really. My high femme days are few and far between. I think the pandemic is contributing to the demise of the butch/femme community.

Still here. Still Femme. Still getting dressed for work every day. Except for yesterday's snow day. My partner is as butch as ever which is about 100% max. So that speaks for my two people in the world. I agree, things are blending, a lot of folks transitioning- which- I'm glad they have the opportunity to do so when that's their true self and they can live it. I think a lot of people are "computered out" if they work from home and are on zoom and stuff all day. But we were petering here before covid so.... there's that. In general, communities all over are breaking down/changing/diminishing. We usually have a pretty active GBLTQ meet up group where I live and just looking at that one pocket, not being able to have meet ups, has really liquidated our community.

Yes, I suppose some people given no other option, would have previously identified as butch but now are able to imagine a truer identity for themselves. Over the past few years there has occurred opportunity for deep internal exploration of gender for a lot of people. Gender studies became the darling of universities giving rise to many thought provoking ideas and lots of writing surrounding gender and personal gender expression. Such discourse has allowed a diverse range of people to explore gender and look inward. It's given many people the language to express who they feel they really are inside. People can embrace identities that feel right for them that were not understood twenty years ago. Non binary, third gender and genderqueer are some of the identities that may be a better fit for many. I do think non binary works well for me, although I still claim my identity as a butch woman. Historically I have struggled identifying as either of the gender options recognized by the majority of society. I am not comfortable with either exclusively. I'm not clear what a blended version of both looks like for me. I cannot let go of a female identity because of my feminist ideology and I am never comfortable with identifying as male because of the patriarchy, the misogynistic world view and the privilege inherent in a male identity. So I flounder a lot. Not exactly sure who I am or what fits for me. I have been most comfortable identifying as a butch woman but over the years I've come to the realization that for me it doesn't matter that much. I am comfortable in my skin even if I'm not sure how to name it.
I often thought of myself as transgender because of my experience of being uncomfortable with society's definition of woman and could not see myself reflected there. But my feelings regarding the transgender community is reminiscent of how some people feel about the lesbian community. They would never identify as a lesbian because of their experience with the community. My experience with the transgender community is similar. Many transgender people insist on referring to butches as cisgendered. While some maybe okay with that I have never felt that worked for me. I struggled too long and too hard internally because my sex and gender did not match and my gender incongruence resulted in many negative experiences for me throughout my life. It's like spitting in my face to call me cisgendered. You shouldn't insist on giving people identities that they do not claim for themselves. This turned me off and made me protect my butch identity even more. At this point in my life I no longer give a fat rat's ass. I am a butch woman who is not cisgendered and is comfortable with a non binary identity.
But the interesting question I ponder often is what has become of the butch-femme dynamic in this brave new world. Gender identities are not sexual orientation. So what does new language for gender, new ways of defining oneself, different boundaries for self identification mean for sexual attraction? As a new generation of queers come of age what will define their attractions? Transgender include all types of sexual orientation so there are some queers in there. Non binary as well and third gender and genderqueer. Will there be a similar dynamic with a different name? Like gender, the boundaries of sexual orientation has expanded exponentially. It's a pretty exciting time to be young and exploring sexuality. I am neither but academically speaking it's interesting to consider.

Well said.
I have always thought that butches were a third gender. To consider that our entire human race is only two genders, as complex and unique as we are, seems somewhat arrogant and yet simplistic. I do believe we are entering a new generation of discovery where not only will multiple genders be realized but that they may be fluid as well. It is indeed a very exciting time to be young and coming into your own. Biases and pegged genders as well as the gay or straight sexuality trap, are becoming archaic ways of thinking.
Here's what's on my mind today. Way back in the day when I was considering transgender as an identity I really felt like it fit somewhere, somehow for me. When I would look in a mirror there was always a moment of shock while I realized my idea of who I was did not match with the reality. I was always unpleasantly surprised by my breasts. You'd think I would have retained the knowledge of their existence, but I was able to put them out of my mind. Until I saw them. They were so disconcerting. I'd be like what are these things doing there.
Over time I decided I was not interested in transitioning but I spent a bit of time considering it and what I understood for myself was my attraction to femmes were/are a part of a transgender/transgressive sexual orientation. I am not transgender in the way that I feel my sex is male but I feel butch as a sort of transgender identity much more than I feel it to be a transgressive identity. I understand femme as a more transgressive one. Both are subversive in my mind. So I understand butch and femme attraction as a transgender/transgressive attraction. A yin/yang attraction to a degree. Which I think can be duplicated in other non binary identities and sexual attractions and orientations. Maybe
Just read that KT Oslin passed away. She was 78! I saw her in HotLanta years ago...when she first began her career. She wore a silk brocade gold jacket, sleeves rolled up and long, black gloves, up to her elbow. When asked about them, she told the crowd, an older lady friend of mine gave me these, said it will be your trademark. I LOVED 80's Ladies of hers!! I have all of music on CD's a friend recorded for me.
RIP KT...the lovely gloved one!!

I am so sorry to hear of K.T.s passing. I met that lovely woman five times and each time I gave her a boomerang (I'll always come back as in her song). Each time I wrote when and where on it and she said she hung them in her hallway in her home. I saw her three times in concert, twice in Canada and have lots of her posters and autographs. She was such a nice person and I know her health was failing but did not know she had passes. RIP K.T. you are among the stars and have found your place, sing to the angels.

Am probably going to purchase my next home sight unseen.
Found a condo I like, my offer has been accepted, but there’s no way I will make it there in time for the home inspection early next week.
I have a relative who can view it, but that’s not the same. I trust my realtor, but not to the extent of choosing my home.
With the inauguration next week, it would be my luck to fly there this weekend and run into some MAGA fucktards in the airport or on the plane. This is what I’m most concerned about because the inauguration is next Wednesday.
Thought of flying first class (smaller cabin, less people, less chance for COVID?) but I could end up dealing with MAGA haters because they fly first class, too. There will probably be more undercover Marshals on the plane than usual, but I DON’T TRUST ANYONE TO PROTECT ME if I’m caught up in some MAGA shit on a plane or in an airport.
I might travel there the following week (after the inauguration), but by then I would have approved the deal. Still, I’d get a chance to see the condo and could still pull out of the deal, but would lose my deposit. Maybe that’s the price I’ll have to pay to buy a condo during a pandemic and political upheaval.
I’m researching “buying a home sight unseen,” am speaking with people, using technology (Google Maps street views), and am writing a list of questions and concerns for the home inspector and realtor.
I’ve been lucky with finding places to live. Have loved most homes I’ve lived in.
Here’s hoping the condo Gods aren’t laughing at me.

I'm wondering when or if Walmart grocery items coming through the mail will arrive. My most recent food delivery order placed with them was hell. I've had so many issues ordering food online from our local store I'm not going to anymore, or recommend anyone else take that risk either, it's just not worth it. However, I've always had good luck buying both food and grocery items through Walmart and having them shipped direct to my home from the manufacturer, wholesaler, non-Walmart retailer and so on. So here's to hoping.

I'm thinking how much trouble it is breaking in a new phone and getting it set up the way I want. I was not even able to answer calls on my new phone, until I chatted with tech support and was told what to change in my settings. Who would think that being able to turn off answering your phone would even be a valid choice? It's a phone, for Pete's sake.

I'm going to convert my tub to a shower. Have done this before with really good results.
The top two showers use lighter tiles than what I want, but I like the low-key patterns of the tile and the overall design.

Not sure any of these will fit into my budget. Will find out once I get some quotes.
Will do the shower conversion after I move in, but will get new flooring and a paint job before I move in.
It's not a done deal yet, but we're getting there. Expecting to close the second and third week of February. And I expect to be in the mitten by March 1.

Very nice! Good luck with your closing.
I really like the contrasting tile in the recessed shelf area in the top photo. The contrasting floor might be a bit much for me, though - I think I like the 3rd one better for the floor.
Excellent to have a grown-up shower! I know that's what people want now. Personally, I don't think I could live without a soaking tub, though.

It's time to get back into therapy.
Have been holding onto some bad and negative feelings. One area I've been holding onto since childhood—months or years can go by without it crossing my mind and then something reminds me of it and BAM, there it is, like a concrete block obscuring or distorting everything. I have another area of bad and negative feelings that came about in the last 7 or so years. It's more controllable, but it's something I need to address. Luckily, neither of these problems involve sexual abuse.
I had much success with a therapist a few years ago who helped me after my car accident and with a sexual abuse issue I had. But I had to stop seeing her after she downplayed my fear of Trump. I didn't even want to discuss it with her. I just wanted to do my hypnotherapy for driving, but she pushed it wanting to know how I felt. I told her and she poo-pooed and downplayed the importance of my fear. She just didn't get it. I had hoped that she could help me in other areas but we never got that far. Anyway, I do well with cognitive therapy when focusing on specific areas and problems. I'll get back into therapy once I'm in the midwest.

The situation in Texas with the electricity is on my mind right now. Apparently, almost all of Texas has its own power grid which is not connected to either the Eastern or Western U.S. power grid. This is why so many Texans were without power during the storm last week.
Also, it seems that one of the electric plans that's available to Texans is a variable rate plan. This allows their bills to be low - most of the time. But in a situation like last week where demand far outstripped availability, the rates went sky high - I have heard two examples so far, one family with a bill over $10,000, and another with a bill over $5,000. Also, the ranchers racked up huge bills because they were trying to keep all of their farm animals warm and alive. Some of these ranchers are family businesses, who have all of their money tied up in their livestock - if the livestock dies, the ranchers go bankrupt and could even lose their homes.
Their state legislature is working now to do something; like for instance, the electric utility has been prevented from sending out any more bills for the moment, and they can't disconnect people's electricity. But I suspect the Texas government is spending a lot of time playing the blame game, and it will all be tied up in politics. In the meantime, the electric bills keep ticking their way upward.
I haven't heard any statistics or news stories about how many people died or how much livestock died during the storm, but surely there must have been some. I'm sure the homeless people were hit hard. Also, I know people were melting ice and snow to get water; but in Georgia, whenever it snows, we have always been warned not to drink or eat the snow. It's full of pollution from the upper atmosphere, and can be harmful. I wonder what the repercussions of millions of people drinking this stuff will be for years to come?
I know several of our own BFPers live in Texas. I hope they are all doing well; my heart goes out to them.

The snow is melting in my neck of the woods and I’ve been out and about. Got a car wash, gas, checking out the neighborhood, not using cabs (for now), feelin’ good behind the wheel. Got a notification on my car while driving that I might be driving on ice—thank goodness I wasn’t. Didn’’t know I had a warning like that. Very cool. I need to re-read my user manual. Will do that soon.
RENOVATIONS
Met a contractor yesteray that didn’t want to give me a written estimate on a tub-to-shower conversion (!) and only offered a discount if I gave him an answer right then and there, on the spot (as if).
Met a contractor today who’ll give me a 12% discount on the conversion if I choose them in 30 days and will throw in a nice shower head/hand held thingy if I go with them in 7 days. They’ve been in business for 28 years. They pretty much offer the same as the guy from yesterday, but a few more bells and whistles that I like. I’m really digging the contractor I met today. Will meet another contractor tomorrow and they will have to come strong and be really good to impress me more than the guy I met today.

Orema, good for you for standing your ground and being strong against this contractor. No written estimate? I call shenanigans! I have worn double mask since this pandemic started. I go out only for groceries and paid one visit to my brother and had the family here with all 3 of them wearing masks while here for an hour or more. Now that surrounding areas are opening up a little, our area has again been moved to Mar. 6 as the first time we can go and buy anything except groceries. This timing has been changed 3 times already and I am going to have to put my hair in a pony tail unless I can get a haircut. The lineups at the grocery stores are from one end of parking to the other in most of the plazas as people just want to get out and about. Most of the problem is illegal openings of after hours clubs and restaurants with hundreds of people attending. Many have been broken up and it does little good as if one person were positive for the virus in each case the chance of it spreading are certain. Put higher fines on those that break the rules I say. If you fly into our largest airport you can be fined if you don't go into isolation.WTH is that? Someone needs to slap Trudeau with a virus napkin.

Cannabis Vape Pens
I brought 4 vape cartridges with me since I didn’t know if the mitten would accept my out-of-state ID. Some states require you to have state ID to make a purchase and it will probably take a few weeks to get my state ID.
I prefer flower, but didn’t want to chance bringing flower into the state. I had no problems with the vape cartridges.
Well, the vape cartridge (at $50.00 a cartridge) lasts more than two weeks for me. I can go through $50 worth of flower in a couple days
The vape cartridge is filled with oil and gives a more organic or “clean” experience and is not as “heavy” as smoking flower. The initial impact isn’t as strong, but it’s still very good and lasts a long time.
I can and will get used to the vape cartridges. It’s exactly what I need on a limited income.

Colors are on my mind.
I chose burnt organ for my living room drapes. It’s perfect. Very 1970s. I forgot that my sister once had a burnt orange sofa that I loved and thought very daring at the time. I sometimes think of her when I’m looking at drapes. I may add a cream-colored sheer curtain behind the drapes.
My projects den will be black, white, gray, pink. Have never used these colors but I think this color scheme will work. We’ll see. Can always remove the pink and beef up the grays.
Am going to paint a bedroom dresser a dark teal but I’ll do that later in the year. This has been on my to-do list for a couple years. Maybe I’ll do it by end of year.
Am still thinking of painting the my old kitchen cabinets an oatmeal color with black hardwear, but haven’t decided.
Not feeling rushed to get this done and am enjoying playing with colors.

My living room and kitchen (open layout) are a pumpkin orange. I love playing with color and having fun with my environment. I think your drapes sound super playful and the teal for a dresser sounds perfect. I hope you do it; it sounds like a fun project to take on. Good luck!

Thanks, Gemme. Your open space sounds very cool. Bet it’s nice to come home to. Will post photos when I paint the dresser.
Stamps are on my mind this morning. I want to buy some.

That no matter how one treats you - you can treat them differently and there is a lot to be said for letting things be water under the bridge.

I need to register to vote, apply for driver's license, get the car registered, update passport. Had planned on doing these things this week, but will have to wait till we have warmer weather.

Reach I agree with you totally. Some people need to lighten up and let things pass. There is no need to be cheeky and mean once things are over with. I also think that messaging can be misread and cause friction. Till I look in someones' face I really don't know what they are thinking or mean.

Another birthday for HRM Queen Elizabeth April 21, 2021 95 yrs of age and going strong. Not much celebration just after the passing of her husband of 72 yrs. Let God save and bless HRM at this, her time of grief.

My friend.
She lost her battle with cancer. She was such a high spirited woman. Once was nominated for teacher of the year. She touched so many kids on her life's journey. Right now, I can remember each and every chemo treatment, as she posted a view to the new and different slippers she wore.
Your on my mind💝

On my mind is that Mother's Day and My sister's birthday are on the same day this year. The day will be filled with sadness and fun ... not sure how that is going to feel. But, we plan on being together on that day .. so I am sure that will help.

I hear you reach, celebrating mothers day is about the worst time of year for me. I always bought something nice for my mom and would take her to dinner somewhere nice with my father. Later she preferred to stay home and order Chinese which was fine. I always gave my sister a gift and card on mothers day as she took such a part in raising me when mom was busy with the other two. A card to someone who is like a mother to me and she was. I miss them both so much sometimes I wonder how I have gone on but it is as it is.

Where my son's present is. I'd have thought his gift would be here by now but patiently we sit and wait. Okay maybe not so patiently. Well his birthday isn't until the end of this month so fortunately there is still plenty of time to get him something else if it doesn't turn up. I hope it does. I think he'll really like it. It's a display made out of wood from a bourbon barrel that he can rest stoppers in as he collects them. Wow, think how much bourbon he'd have to drink to get that many stoppers. Well hopefully he doesn't like to drink alone and will be sharing it with friends.
