Flipping thru the scrapbook/album that Pajara made for me for a Valentine's/anniversary present. It's all schmoopy with photos of us and our trips, complete with handwritten and cut-out captions, and even a love sonnet. It also has plenty of space at the back to add more memories. I love her schmoopiness...

Just found out today, that I am going to be a grand auntie!! My niece was suppose to pick me up to take me to an appt and she called to say she couldnt...she was throwing up. I was perturbed since the call came so close to the appt...then she said in a meek voice..." I am pregnant..." WOOOO HOOOOO!!!! Forget how late she called!

an elderly lady in the Walmart parking lot

she walks along pushing her buggy, stops looks around and does this several times as she approaches where I'm parked.

I roll the window down and say...whatcha lookin for......?

She says MY CAR, I forgot where I parked it.....

I say what kind of car

She says a Honda

I say what color

She says black

I say 4 door or 2 door

By this time she is standing in front of my truck and she goes THERE IT IS!

LOL so my joy today was settling this nice ladies nerves a bit so she could get her barrings about her and not feel alone in the parking lot....lost

This made me smile Blade :)

It reminded me of a time last winter...I came out of the grocery store, it was snowing...and I was exhausted at the end of a very long and difficult week.

I always remember where I parked...except that day.

I was literally walking in circles in the snow, carrying my groceries, just at the end of my rope...when an elderly lady stopped, rolled down her window and says "did you lose your car?"

When I said yes, she gestured me over to her car (not scary....she was probably 75) and said, "get in honey...let's find it."

She drove up and down the rows until I found my car, then waited until I had myself and my groceries inside and the engine started before she drove away. :rrose:

If you keep the location Wal-Mart, but change the snow to buckets of rain, that would be my story. No nice folks to help me out though. I was walking all over that parking lot for 10 minutes before I found my car and when I did, I had to pour water off of my purchases before putting them in the car.

That's not why I'm joyful today though. Good things are happening!!! :cheer:

Scheduled date to go to the hollers. They wanted to put me in a nice hotel at a state park 45 minutes away from where I need to be. But I need the whole experience of the town if I am going to move there from the "big city". So, they are putting me in not so nice hotel. My choice. Appalachia, here I come!

Then a second later my phone rings and her sweet little excited voice announces it's ME MADDIE. hahaha I told her I was so glad she called because I was mad. I told her I was so sick of people who don't know how to drive, and she said, well maybe those people in that city don't have drivers licenses'. I enjoyed having my Phinneas follow me everywhere in the house. Up and down stairs was easy for him. We did laundry. He ate while I made a meatloaf and did dishes and swept the floors. But the best of all, was laying on the couch and watching tv and doing the internet together. He snuggled into the nook of my knees and laid there as part of me.

He does need to learn manners with the kitties tho. He has never been around cats before. I have Mr Smitty who is truly a wise cat, but very much reminds me of an autistic child. He will come to me to be touched, but once my hand is on him, he has to direct the touch. I cant just pet him freely. And god forbid I try to hold him. He acts as tho i am trying to peel his skin off. I have another cat, CatFace, the bold and beautiful, a stray I took in, who has a queen bea attitude. She and Smitty often have eye wars and bat at each other at times.

Well, today, Phinneas attacked Smitty...actually tried to bite him this time...and out of nowhere, CatFace the bold and beautiful, lept in mid air and jumped on Phinneas and knocked him over, hissing and spitting and growling and cuffing him several times in rapid succession. Mr Smitty bolted for the couch and ran up behind my head where I was sitting and Phinneas jumped up in my lap and climbed ontop of my head too and hung onto my face like a baby crab...scared to death, trembling. CatFace, the bold and beautiful got on the seat of the couch and looked at me and the Phinneas. I laughed and told her I would handle it from here and patted her. Then I reassured both Smitty and Phinneas. Eventually Phinneas calmed down enough to slide down and crawl under my legs for about an hour before he could finally relax.

What really amazed me was about ten minutes after the fight was all over, CatFace, the bold and beautiful, jumped up on the back of the couch and walked up to Smitty. Now she never approaches Smitty unless its to cuff him. Not this time. This time, she touched noses with him and softly made some noises. And he made soft noises back. She stood there for a few moments and then she left. Wow. Lioness taking care of her tribe. She became my hero tonight. And Phinneas learned something important. Cats rule and dogs drool.

I had to leave my garden go last year at the end of the season. I couldnt tear it down and put it to bed and it had bothered me all winter to look at it.

It was such a beautiful day and I wanted to let Phinneaus run around in the fenced in area, so we went outside in the garden.

He did his little terrier dog kind of strut-march all along the parameter, grunting and growling, high stepping, then shoving his nose way deep into the ground, snorting and kicking up dirt like god needed to watch out too...lol

I had such a good laugh at the little stunted man, that I couldnt help but feel better...and I turned to my trellises and tomato stakes and started cleaning them free of leftover plant material. So brittle from the winter, they just snapped right off. Last fall they would have made me struggle to tear them away. Now it felt like I was pulling away all the hard times i had been thru, from the health issues, to the finances, to the loss of Story...I just lifted it up and removed it so easily as I watched my little guardian patrol my boundaries to make sure no harm was going to come my way...I surely felt some guidance and intervention from above at that moment. Some from my beloved Story, and some, well, some from what we all call in one form or another, god...

somehow, I think this year's garden is going to be a little different in the outcome...

I had such a good time in my garden today, with me and my dogs and my god....

watching my nephew behind the wheel and seeing that nervousness in his eyes...that choppy start and brake until he found his balance.

the joy was the calmer more relaxed look and sense of pride and accomplishnment on his face at the end of the lesson...he has had a hard life and hasnt had alot of positive things, so it brings me great joy to help shape him into a good and respectful young man...

its a joy every day now to share a home with him...

I was camping this weekend, I woke up super early this morning, waaaayyy before anyone else in the campground. I walked down to the ocean all bundled up in umpty-4 layers and wrapped with a couple blankets I dug a little hole , settled in and waited for the sun to rise. Rise it did as the beautiful inky blue star spangle faded and the shore birds moved in.
It was that rare mix of awe inspiring and cozy and exactly what my soul needed.

seeing my two kitties curled up together in the recliner, sleeping, unafraid, now that the dog is gone. The kitties used to hiss and bat at each other and would barely be able to be in the same room together, let alone the same piece of furniture. Not anymore. Ever since AuntBea attacked the dog to rescue Mr Smitty, they are friends. Of course, Smitty is truly autistic and he cant tolerate being touched unless he coordinates it. So, they had to get on the chair, then he had to do the series of being upset while she let him. Finally he found the place where she could touch him and they cuddled. Beautiful and joyful....

My little gang of frogs are sheer, pure joy!!! :awww::frog::heartbeat:

Late last night, Tootsie finally ventured down to the big frog water bowl where Miss Myra was having herself a leisurely midnight soak. Myra dwarfs little Tootsie and when she's in the bowl, she's even bigger because she sprawls out in order to absorb more water. Well, little Tootsie sat on the rim of the big water bowl for about 15 minutes, looking at Myra (who was looking at her) and trying to decide if she really wanted to venture in.

Finally, Tootsie gingerly climbed in beside Myra and I got a little antsy watching all this, because I always wonder if I've filled the bowl a little too much and it might be too deep for little Tootsie with her missing right back foot. I have always held a little fear in my heart that she wouldn't be able to get enough traction to get out, if it was too deep. So, I pulled up a chair and waited to see the result of all of this. Tootsie snuggled in next to Myra and then the both proceeded to stare AT ME!!! Four little black eyes fixed on me as if to say, "Whatchu lookin' at??"!!

Tootsie sat with Myra for almost 2 hours in the big water bowl. Oh, and all during this time, Ivan was sitting on top of the new big waterfall watching all of this. So, make that 3 sets of little black eyes on me. Finally, I guess little Tootsie had had enough soaking and was ready to climb out. I held my breath. At first she clamored around a bit, trying to get traction, but then I saw a little hand fly up and land squarely on the top of Myra's head. Tootsie climbed right on top of Myra's back and head (she's a BIG girl) and hoisted herself out of the water. Myra just sat patiently and allowed her to use her as a "step stool". It was the cutest thing you could imagine.....one big girl helping the little "sister". Myra is so sweet, gentle and accommodating. She's really been the heart and soul of The Big Frog House. She is my "First Frog", in every sense of the word. They simply don't get any better than her. She HAS to have a Femme soul. :awww::frog::heartbeat:

So ya.....Frogs. Pure Joy. :awww::winky:

Hank and Honey were having a blast this morning. I put out a ton of peanuts for them. Then when they were done eating the peanuts they looked at me with pittaful faces...I pointed to the suet feeder. In it was peanut flavored suet for the woodpecker. They thought they could get to it to eat. Laughing. I used vaseline on the cable. It was so funny watching the two of them slipping and slidding around. Of course they got more peanuts. Now they are resting and laying in the sun.

Joy came in the form of a furnace repair person who got the furnace back up and running for under $400. The house got down to 60 before it was all done, which was not too bad. MUCH gratitude for the easy and relatively cheap fix.

Joy that my daughter is on the mend, after some significant illness last night and this morning.

What brought me joy today...

Walking downstairs this morning to find the sun coming through the french doors off the deck, seeing the flowers in full bloom and at least 10 butterflies around the jasmine. I took it all in, smiled and felt peace.

Silly weekday morning rituals to wake my honey up and that sleepy smile that makes my world just feel right.

Being able to puppy/house sit for one of D's aunts this week (and even making some extra money, too). It might not sound like fun, but this woman has a bathroom I would kill for. I see many soaks in her big ol' tub and glasses of wine in her garden.

I can so relate to this, DamselFly...they are precious gifts, our pets. My 6-month old Bichon-Frise, Pinky, is my heart. She keeps me laughing and smiling all day. They are, however, a big responsibility, and require alot of work. The love part is easy - how can you resist those trusting, loving eyes. You are their lifeline - they depend on you for everything, just like a child. But these children never grow up - I think that's the best part. :) Good luck with your kiddies - you'll all bond and get closer with each passing day, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without them. :)

sitting within earshot of a conversation my daughter is having with her friend..and not purposely listening, but catching a few moments of what she was saying which made me really smile..

in fact - made me feel like i really have done good..
Single parenting has it's difficult moments, but moments like this, that make the heart smile knowing she hears me, learns from me and really looks up to me and loves the heck out of me.. even through my imperfections and my sillyness and embarrassing moments over the years, they really look up to me and truly do respect me now as the young adults theyre growing into...

i woke up this morning with little fatigue and pain. i was able to do a complete morning's session of chanting, reading, prayer, study, and meditation at my altar, something i hadn't been able to do for a few weeks! this always brings me a feeling of deep contentment and peace, such a wonderful way to start my day.

This morning when I went to feed the outdoor critters....I found 4 TINY precious brand new babies!! I just LOVE baby animals!! Especially when they are this CUTE and have such sweet tiny ears and tiny little voices!! (however, enough is enough already!)
http://i815.photobucket.com/albums/zz72/kjs11/Babies3292011.jpg?t=1301450386

I sent a text to my roomie... "1 calico, 2 black-n-whites and 1 ORANGE baby!!!
Imagine that!! an ORANGE kitty to go with Blade's collection of Tennessee fan club stuff!

The other thing that brought me joy....finding a foster home today for ALL the babies and momma cat. I get one night with my sweet babies, then they get to go to a really good home where they will get all the care/vet visits they need and then put into a No Kill adoption program!! That makes me very happy for them.

I brought in my "greenhouse" which is nothing more than a stacked set of shelved with plastic over them, with a zippered door. I think I can get my daughter to haul in topsoil and help me load up trays. I have to get the squash families started. I am already a couple weeks behind but thats not too bad.

I decided I am going to go thru the motions. If nothing else, my niece can sell the starts at her garage sale in May. If I am lucky, I can plug them into some raised beds I hopefully can pay someone to put up if my SSDI checks get here fast enuf. I have one in the makings, setting out back, ready to be assembled.

I got cat litter buckets today from garden friends so I could plant some potatoes.

My joy comes because I havent lost hope. And because I do have faith I will still be able to garden. No considering how I feel right now, and how long lasting this ordeal has been, most other would have given up.

But I plan on eating from my back yard this year....

Glad to see the gardening going on. This May 15th, I will plant my 7th Rose Bush out front. One for every year post diagnosis of endometrial cancer.

Question> Potatoes in plastic buckets. I have lots of those in the garage. Saved, because I knew they would come in handy someday.

the other thing buckets are good for, is compost tea. Stick manure in the bucket, about 1/4 full, add water, stick it out in the sun and let it sit for a few days, with the lid on or off. I like the lid on. It brews it like sun tea. Wonderful nutrients for your garden.

Blade has lived here nearly all his life and he's never seen one of these birdies before...
We were out hiking and he called my attention to the TINY bright, BEAUTIFUL little guy perched along the water's edge, patiently waiting for a tasty bug to catch.
He was STUNNINGLY beautiful and so fascinating to watch. And I didn't have a camera with me!!
We both agreed we had never seen one before...ever...and wondered what he was.... later, I went back with camera in hand, but could never find him again. They must be rare around here because we are both HUGE outdoor fans and visit all the parks, lakes and mountains....you would think this bright yellow little guy would find it hard to hide?

This little guy and his brightly colored unique self brought me much joy!! It's not every day you find something so unique and special.
And having a Hiking Buddy that enjoys stuff like this just as much as I do....

I put my hair up in a nice fluffy bun and took a long hot bath this morning. Then, I put on some of my favorite old clothes-an old shrunken, discolored cotton shirt, and an extra ugly pair of gray sweat pants. Then, I got wild and called and cancelled my dentist appointment. Then, I wrote a dumb ass essay I had to. Then, I made extra fancy tuna melts.

Hell if I know why. This has been a nice day.

I just did a reading for a repeat client. I told her that last April she would meet someone. She told me tonight that the man she met last April was moving in with her this month. :) I'm always so excited to hear things like this. Talking to her and doing another set of readings for her brought me amazing joy--even if it did wear me out to do a 1.5 hour reading. OY. :)

I remembered to bring my new binolulars with me to the dog park so I could get a better look at shore birds (it is located at a point in the SF Bay). They are continuing to build back their numbers during feeding time after our oil spill here a few years ago.

Such good news- obviously, the food supply is in a restorative phaze. Plus, they will lay egs nearby in the swampy grassy areas (it is restricted for dogs- so is the beach on the Bay during low tide so the birds can feed).

I really missed them and am really enjoying daily sightings. My little dog stays very quiet and just sits next to me on the banks and doesn't make any moves toward them. He is a very good little birder! He has never attempted to chase them. Guess he understood my lecture about all the rules and the bird cops...

Just enjoying Spring warmth in general and taking some hikes.
