It’s a pretty stressful time for our office, so somebody decided to plan a “summer party” this afternoon. We had homemade ice cream and brownies and played some silly games. I managed to win an ice pack and some measuring spoons...ha. I didn’t get so lucky as some of the others who won 4 free hours of PTO or gift cards to nice restaurants, but it was still fun to all get together and act like kids for a bit. We all got some good laughs out of it. :)

My daughter left to go back to college yesterday and scheduled herself to get a tattoo yesterday afternoon. It's her "mom" tattoo (my favorite flower) I got to see pictures of it yesterday and today. Much joy. It's beautiful and I love that she wanted a mom tattoo :) She's planning a "Grandma" tattoo with my mom's favorite flower next.

Waking up to watch the mist covering the valley, the sunrise making the sky over the dark blue mountains glow a stunning mix of purple, pink and pastel blue (it looked like a mixed up watercolor painting)...

After breakfast, a short trip to a wonderful, unique bookstore/coffee shop/art shop in this 120 year old building that's built into the side of the mountain. (My traveling buddy LOVES bookstores and is an artist)
Then a day trip along the Parkway to Boone...stunning weather and so many treasures to find. Enjoyed a walk through a tiny botanical gardens, another art store, and the most awesome Mast General Store.

We gathered to scatter mom’s ashes at her happiest place on earth... the beach. She would be pleased that we have continued the tradition of our yearly visits. Just wish she had been well enough to make the trip before she passed.

My father left me his oak desk, after his death. I love, love LOVE this old desk!!! I always have, even though it was, over this desk, the ONLY time my father ever raised his hand to me. I used to love to get into Pop's desk, whether he was around to supervise or not. He was always telling me, "STAY OUT OF MY DESK!!". I never listened. Pop took a belt to me, one day, and that was the last day I ever sneaked my way into this old desk. From then on, I'd ask him if I could peek at his "neat stuff" in the top drawer (where the "good stuff" was). He'd let me, too, and always praise me for asking him first.

Dad's desk was full of all sorts of trinkets, gadgets and just.....neat stuff!! I once found his old ROTC medals and was totally fascinated by them!! Dad always desired a military career as an aviator, but his eyes were very, very bad (think "coke bottle" glasses) and this made him "4F" for any kind of military service. ROTC was the closest he ever got to a military uniform, much to his great disappointment. His generation fought in the Korean war, as Dad was too young for WWII. Dad went to college, instead, and got his PhD in Entomology (bugs). Dad's desk was always full of all sorts of tweezers/forceps, mounting pins and various tiny figurines of tiny bugs and such. Dad spent many, many hours at this old oak desk. It's solid oak and I've yet to see any nails in its construction. What there is is a LOT of "tongue in groove" work. It makes it that much dearer to my heart, as even the stain finish, on the edge of the top of it, is worn off and reveals the soft glow of the oak beneath it.

Today, I found one more exhilarating secret of this fine old desk. I placed the woofer of my Bose audio system on the floor beneath this desk and it now sounds like an absolute concert hall, here in my office!!! It's almost like this desk has sprung to musical life, like it never has before!!! :awww::listening::cheer:

A text from my sister...

Yesterday we had a town tragedy. A 90 year old woman (whom we’re all familiar with) was hit by a car yesterday while crossing the road. It was bad enough where she had to be air lifted to UMASS Memorial.

My sister is more of a townie than I am, and she heard from the lady’s niece that she is awake and recovering. Her only regret is that she missed out on the helicopter ride because she was unconscious.

My joy will occur at 3 o'clock, when I meet up with a woman I met at a small party last Saturday night. She said she was into art and photography, then she showed me some of her photos on her cell. She is one of the most dynamic, imaginative, steady handed photographers I've ever met.
Her pics look like they belong in a photo array in Vogue.
I'm going to show her how to use some of the Internet's best online galleries.

I found another antique metal milk crate today. Adding to my collection for my kitchen wall shelves.

Last week one of the residents of the facility that I manage told me that a member of the construction crew working in our neighborhood has been harassing her and that it was escalating. I went through a vortex of city planners and such to find the supervisor of the crew she was referring to. I had left him a message on Friday but he didn't call me back so I called him again. I got to talk to him this morning. At first I could tell he was half listening to me but then he got to paying attention (ahem) He told me he was going to go right over and address them and he would call me back in the afternoon. He called me back less than two hours later to tell me they identified one of the flaggers as the problem person. They confirmed that he has been harassing women in the neighborhood and that he has been removed from the job site and told that if he comes back they will call the police. Swift justice.

My sister put a second offer on a ton of land that has 3 houses on it and they accepted!! She’s a lot younger than me and is accomplishing so much in life and I’m very proud of her. Now she will have a place to put and ride her horse and do all the things she wants. Much joy!

Going back to PT today brought me joy. I have not been in awhile and it makes a huge difference. Hearing from my oldest and his gf on conference call this morning. At first I didn't realize what was happening because it's been forever since I received one. Also I thought they'd already be on the road heading to see her parents for Thanksgiving. On the return trip to purchase my roomie's new 4×8 trailer, on a rainy cold day, we found an architectural salvage yard FULL of treasures!! My happy place.
The 2 young men that were helping me were worried I was almost barefoot in my sandals. What are the chances that these 2 were from my hometown? We had a delightful chat about home and they chuckled as I told them that they should know us tough girls from back home love going barefoot (as I navigated mud puddles and bundles, piles or sheds full of building materials as they tried to keep up with me).
We had to jump a small creek to get to the cast iron tubs and stacks of new windows. They hovered over my every step as if they were walking their grandma to church, and listened to everything on my wish list.
Then they found me the PERFECT, large, crank out, insulated, double pane window with an easy pop out screen for my workshop. It's about the size of a door and made me so excited to find it for less than 90$.
They found me other treasures that I have to go back for. They might be able to get my beadboard and other lumber for cheap.

Watching mandatory training videos at work. One of the examples of harassment was a jerk asking a transgendered woman personal and inappropriate questions. I've seen a number of these kinds of videos and never have I seen a transgendered person included nor referenced.

When I woke up this morning, my main kitty was asleep and smiling, lying on his back across my rib cage, with one of his little white paws wrapped around my wrist and the other, sort of backwards hugging me. He is the most laid back kitty ever--I have never heard him hiss or seen him freak out and strike one of those scared Halloween kitty poses.
His skittish, crybaby twin brother, however...well, he's very special. :|

Last summer it was determined that it was progressing and I went on the vitamins and fish and green leafy vegetables. I also went on CBD oil, figuring if it can help glaucoma maybe it can help the AMD. Today I went to another eye doctor for a second opinion regarding the continued difficulty with vision and dry eye after cataract surgery. I asked him about how the Macular Degeneration looked (I had seen the evidence on images at my original doctor's) and he said "what macular degeneration, there is none. Now it could be the vitamins which are supposed to slow the progression or I am sure it is the CBD oil which cured the Macular Degeneration. I continue to take it for a myriad of age related stuff, but this is a miracle.

That is such great news! I've been using CBD - oral and topical- for a myriad of things. It really helps me too. Yay for healing!

Being invited over to my son's place. They'd just bought me pizza yesterday so I suggested moving the dinner we'd planned for tonight to sometime next week. They said no they still wanted me to come over :) plus they surprised me with a movie. They have Netflix, Amazon, Roku I think it is, cable TV in another part of the house plus oh this huge collection of DVDs. Not only that, I have a few movies I could have brought. Also my ex and his wife have their own large collection as does my youngest and they're all willing to share so there's absolutely no reason under the sun for any of us to ever have to pay for additional movies, not with all the choices we already have. However knowing I'd like to see it they paid for us to be able to watch it on their big screen TV, especially for me. Also they have brand new furniture in their family room with recliner seats and cup holders and oh it was so kick back and nice. Yep all of that combined – joy, joy, joy!

Brown with some white (or yellow tinted) A bright yellow vein down the middle. Very stunning. Ironically, school colors. Weird. But, I did talk to my mom. A LOT brought me so much joy today. Where do I even start!

On the way to lunch date, I received an email from the department secretary apparently they had written a news article about the chili cook off, and while they interviewed the division chair, they mentioned my name as being the winner! woot woot.

Then I received an email from the division chair saying I was one of 3 graduate students out of 75 who received a Foundation Scholarship!!! Ah MAZING!

Then said lunch date was a HIT! it was so darn windy in this state (and NOT illinois for that matter) that I was able to impress her with my carpentry skills as well because part of her fence had broken apart in the wind!

My good spirits are still intact today. I woke, warm and rolled up like a human burrito, without the alarm and have fun plans and errands to run today. My fur babies have full bellies and are snoozing at their chosen locations, looking absolutely adorable in the process. The sun is already up and working its magic, warming up the tiny corner of the world in which I reside. All I need now to be 100% content is some food for myself and that's next on the agenda. Well, it really happened yesterday so it is still a little fresh. Sorry I'm just getting to the write-up today but.......

Lets see. I received a mention in the local newspaper about the chili cook-off win. It was mixed in with the interview of our division chair (how fun) I'm glad no photos were involved! (hehe)

Second, lunch went VERY well! I am excited to know someone else here.

Third, I received news that I was 1 of 3 graduate students who were chosen to receive the Foundation scholarship for this year! WoooooHooooo! how exciting!

She kept trying to drag the hair trap from the tub out into the hallway and when I suggested that might not be a good idea, she moved onto the new plastic drain snake that I just got. It's thin, long, plastic and still in the packaging so it's grade A Gracie play stuffs. I have to admit, it was fun watching her get it stuck under the door and trying to drag it out into the hall. Meanwhile, Loki is all like 'pet me!' so I guess you could say my joy came from it being a typical Sunday with the creatures.

I sat outdoors mostly and really enjoyed watching all the dogs play. Kevie and Jeffrey got to wrestling a little too rough and I had to call Jennifer out. She was so funny. When she did something really grand wrestling with Kevie and Jeffrey, she would stop for a few seconds and look over at me to make sure I had been watching her cool and brave moves. Both of them are quite a bit larger than my little pocket pittie Princess. I fell out laughing lots of times. But it got to the point I had to make her exit the game before she got squashed or seriously injured. She didn't mind because she came over to me . I knew what she wanted so I massaged her while I was saying "she is s-o-o-o pretty, Jennifer Avery is s-o-o-o pretty" about 500 times. She loves to be told how pretty she is! Cracks me up!

When I fed them tonight, Jennifer's bowl was close to Kevin so she sat on him while she ate. She has always climbed up and sat on him, especially when she is cold. Kevie never has seemed to mind.

The gift of a "gently loved" Kenwood stereo system for my apartment. It is several components, and will hold.....450 CD's! I am stoked!!!! (PS I do NOT even own that many CD's....but close...:)

An almost brand new little scooter for my vehicle, being donated to me. It is lightweight, easy to break down & reassemble and this will afford me so much more means of being social again.

It was a gorgeous day. Still a bit chilly out, but bright, sunny. We had a lot of errands to run and that made all that having to get in and out of the car and walk over and over again not so bad. Despite it being a great day weather wise , for whatever reason almost no one was out anywhere we went so we got through everything on our to do list in about ¼ the time it usually takes. Later went for lunch at a restaurant by the water and we were the only customers for about ½ an hour then a couple came in but still only four customers in the building during lunch rush – fantastic. And the food was so good, amazing. With the place dead as it was we were able to get a table right by a big picture window with a good view of the marshy area where some mallard ducks were waddling around, hanging out, and beyond that further out, a bit of a peek at the river. Just a very relaxing, unhurried day. Good company, great food, nice weather, got everything I needed at the store and stayed within budget so yeah, big smiles. Happy, happy day day.

Well you know it's the craziest, smallest thing but my son hearing I was sick called to check on me and then brought me some cold medicine. He's been working a lot of overtime and instead of heading straight home he has to drive past his house and then miles out of his way to get to my place, then turn around and head all the way back home. That tired and exhausted, he would do that for me, made me feel loved and cared about, which felt nice and that brought me joy today.

the most beautiful cardinal came for a visit this afternoon, as I was coming home from a very rough day. right on the branch that sits above my stairs into the apartment.

Getting the, shuffle stuff around to make room for the new aquarium, chore done. This apartment is very small and full of stuff so it's never simple to make changes. Everything has to be moved and each piece has to be moved out of the way multiple times to make room for anything more. Plus when you start moving stuff around you find all these things not in the right places you don't remember putting there and all sorts of things you need to clean. Pretty soon almost everything winds up in a huge pile of stuff to sort though and figure out where to put. Anyhow, though I know it's weird to have a chest of drawers in the living room, with most everything out of sight out of mind, less cluttered, not strewn all over, it looks so much better now. It's going to be easier, and a lot more fun, to work on projects – sewing, crafting, whatever. Looking around, taking in the view, seeing the result of all my hard work, effort, has me feeling such a sense of peace and joy right now.

I've started my mini staycation and have only been called once from work so far today. I've got plans for cleaning and reorganization and decluttering and restaging my craft room layout over the next couple of days as well as prepping some donations boxes. I have donations from a customer to go as well so I'll have a car full when I go and one of my customers is an awesome contractor who's going to help me with a big craft cabinet I found. Joy!

Also, I am showing success with my recent physical fitness efforts. Double joy!

Seeing the new double curtain rod up. I'm using the old curtains as liners on the back rod to help cut down on the glare, some of the heat transfer through that front window which takes full on sun a good portion of the day. No curtains for the front bar yet. J gave me some fancy, brand new drapes she got after her aunt died and though they weren't really to my liking I thought it was very thoughtful thing in the middle of her grief for her to do. So if it made her happy to come over and see her aunt's drapes up, I'd have my son put them up. Well when he went to do that for me that's when I learned those weren't gathers in the photo, those were pinch pleats. Good grief that's the last thing I need to fiddle with, hooks and all, plus I'd have to get a traverse rod to make it all work, happen, then send back the curtain rod I really like. So it's been agreed - they're going to a new and larger, more lovely and gracious home than I have to offer them. Now, guilt free, I'm freed up to look for something more to my liking. :)
