I took a long, meandering drive through the countryside beneath an impossibly blue sky that was lit up by a sun so brilliant it was almost incomprehensible.

As I cruised along, I noticed a small "not-quite-a-swamp-but-not-quite-a-pond-either" at the northern edge of a cow pasture. All the other cows were hanging around together in the meadow (catching up on the latest cow gossip and weighing in on all the pressing bovine social issues of the moment, in my mind) except for one that was standing alone, as still as a statue, knee-deep in the standing water. She had her face lifted to the sunlight and I could literally feel her contentment all the way out to the road.

She was probably just trying to cool off, but what I loved the most about the whole scene was that she was doing precisely what she wanted to do and for her, nothing else existed in all the world at that time save her, the cool water, and the sunlight.

I think cows are beautiful, peaceful creatures and this one brought me a lot of joy. She wore her serenity painted all over her face as a light that rivaled the radiance of the sun.

Picking out garden flowers for Mawmaw and how pleased she was with them.

Going fishing and finding a bunch of the tiniest, itty bitty, squiggly little tadpoles I've ever seen. A whole batch of them would fit on top a dime. When I see healthy critters like frogs and tadpoles, it makes me think the ecology and area are healthy and not polluted. My son and I also have an affinity for froggies...they always remind me of him.

Spending my day in good healthy ways gave me joy.

Also...at the end of my day, I felt joy from thinking/ knowing that I AM human...I allow myself to love and be loved. I feel pride and share pride with those I care about. I feel pain and process pain in healthy ways. I fall down and pick myself up. I feel genuine compassion and an important part of my personality is putting other's needs before my own. ....etc etc...I AM human with a very strong will to overcome adversity. This brings me joy.

I found my niece!

My oldest brother and his first wife had a daughter in 1965 (I was born in 1963). They divorced, and the wife remarried, moving away with my niece when she was about 6 or 7. We completely lost touch, including my brother. From time to time, I would think of Lesley but I didn't think it was my place to look for her while my brother was still alive. It also seemed like a verboten subject. I couldn't understand not knowing at least where your child is, whether or not you have contact, but that's the way it was.

My brother died in 2006 and after discussing it with my remaining brother, I set out on the search again. To make a long story short, a new group formed on
Facebook for people searching for lost relatives, and as a long-shot for giggles, I wrote one of the first messages with my search. Someone wrote me back and said "I believe this is your niece!", with a profile. The woman's name, parents' names, and locations matched! So, I carefully wrote a message, expecting either a cold brush-off or nothing.

When I got home today, there was a message saying "That's me! I'm your niece!" She shared memories of my parents (her grandparents), and still has a picture book with their writing in it that she kept for remembering them. Her mother's new husband was the "dad" who raised her, but she had thought of us growing up. She remembered me as a little girl, more like a sister than aunt and niece.

I have a feeling a reunion of a different sort will occur ;).

Not a cloud in the sky allll day!! And being able to walk without pain.
Another thing that brought me joy yesterday was, when I met my new Acupuncturist at my regular clinic, she offered me to visit her at her practice free of charge because she was so moved with how my Lupus affects me. My joy came from her compassion, her offer and the huge progress I have had since September of last year.
I've made some hard decisions but it's all been worth it.

Well...nothing went as planned today, but that's perfectly ok because as usual around this town, never ever plan anything because something always gets changed. It's still been a wildly fun and very adventurous day!! ...but instead of fishing, we are all on our way to pick out baby pigmy goats!! They are 2 months old :-) ...
And another joy was, getting to share a very rare treat, a freshly made hot soft pretzel with dippin cheese with my buddy. This is a once a year treat.

A stunning beautiful day..
Filled with so much laughter my ribs hurt.

Earlier today I went to my parents house (she went to hers). We ate lots of good barbecue, watched a bit of tour de france, and then settled on the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Fest. I helped babysit a friend's 5 month old grandniece on Saturday while her Momma, big sister and my friend went shopping. She was so sweet, tiny and precious. Even with this being the first time I had met both children, this beautiful, always smiling sweetheart never once got upset that her momma had let a stranger hold and carry her. And she'd look at me with those big brown eyes to "study" my baseball hat and face, always with that cute baby smile......then reach up to grab a tiny handful of my curly hair...I just fell in love!! She stole my heart!!

With that baby soft dark brown hair, dark eyes, long eyelashes and always so happy, she certainly belongs in her great-uncle's family.

It's been a long time since I got cuddles from such a tiny baby. I've always wanted a baby girl...I just might have to share custody of this one. She's a real sweetheart and she has her great-uncle's personality! So fun and happier than a puppy with two tails!!

I was torn between posting this in the "What made you smile today?" thread or here, but believe what I was told is more than smile worthy, it brings joy to my sometimes hardened heart. I was at the store talking with one of my distributors. He says "I have to tell you this, I think you'll enjoy it. I was talking to my eight year old and telling him we would be attending a wedding this weekend. He asked who's wedding and I told him his cousin Val's. 'Oh!' he says. 'Are they marrying a boy or a girl?'" Who knew the world would ever be like this 40+ years ago?! Yep, he was right, I loved this joyous little story. PS: My apologies to the grammar experts.

In my final four weeks of school. The week before I had the last practical midterm I'll ever have in anatomy. I suck at anatomy practicals because someone names a muscle, then you tell your "body" how to position themselves on the massage table, you then palpate the muscle belly, stating: origin, insertion, nerve, artery, and actions. We have to memorize 270 out of 320 pairs of muscles in the body.
We also have to demonstrate how to muscle test each one. For example if you want to muscle test the gluteus medius the body is laying on their back and I bring the leg into slight abduction, and flextion at about 5 degrees and get them to resist further abduction.
Glute *minimus* however, the leg is abducted, flexed to 20 degrees, internally rotated and then I get them to resist abduction.

The examiner tells you a muscle and you have two minutes to demonstrate this.p, while also talking about the palpation quality of the tissue, and the result of the muscle test.

It's repeated five times for five different muscles, for a total of 10 minutes, then they give you a body landmark - like a nerve pathway, an artery pathway, a pulse location, a boney landmark like the radial tuberocity, and you have to find it and show how you know that's what it is and they put their fingers where yours are and double check.

I panick and freak out on these regularly. Singly hecUse someone barking orders holding a clip board and scribbling down everything I do makes me highly nervous. I can tell stories at parties, but I can't do scrutiny. I used to freeze and stammer and sweat and shake. Now I blather like a fucking idiot, and sweat and say things backwards.

But, this last one, I don't even remember it, I was in full panick mode, blathering incoherently, sweat running down my neck and back, and I left thinking "holy shit I failed. That was awful. I actually had no fucking clue what I was doing. I don't even remember what I said. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck."

And failing isn't really an option five weeks before grad. It means I wouldn't graduate.

I got my test paper result back today. 94%

Apparently, when blathering like complete knob and on autopilot is still know my stuff. It's actually in my skull.

So, I phoned my dad and got to tell him I passed that midterm with 94%

That brought me a fuckton of joy today.

I had a bunch of fun today after I was so happy to get several glass art/wine bottle light projects completed and my pretty bright red shadow box with it's Christmas tree and "snow" scene finished.
Even more fun and jokes about "slurping nutts" ...(peanuts that is!!) as we raced up to the antique mall to display my finished products.
Then went shopping for more light fixtures and SCORED a whole bunch of FREE unique bottles (different shaped wine, "rare" scotch, and vodka) after chatting with a wonderful lady who said she was just going to trash them.
I was so excited to get a bunch of beautiful projects done and even more happy to spend it with the people that mean so much to me.

I made my best friend laugh so hard they nearly tipped their recliner backwards!!!
Admittedly, the laughter came shortly after I seriously set off fireworks in the living room because I was "playing with fire and messing with fate" with a screwdriver and live electrical wires. Even tho my heart stopped and had trouble beating correctly for a while, and I melted the screwdriver, all the laughter was worth it!!

I've done that before, by accident. My house at the time had questionable wiring and even though I turned off the breaker to the kitchen (where I was digging into the outlet with a butter knife), the breakers were not labeled correctly and I zapped myself and the knife.

It definitely gives you a buzz.

Taking care of myself.

Good for you! Too often, we put ourselves on the back burner to others and to our busy lives. It's nice to take time out to pamper oneself.

I'm experiencing a bit of pampering myself. I am still in my pajamas, which rarely, if ever, happens. I'm either in workout clothes or work clothes on or before 8am every day so this is really nice and comfy.

The same thing I'm bitching about in another thread....snow and this darn storm. Before I had to get out in it and work and shovel more than a driveway, I used to love it so much. Now, not so much.

BUT

I'm in the honeymoon stage of this storm. The ground is just now covered and everything's white and beautiful. This lasts for the first inch or two and then the dread of having to slosh through it brings me back.

So, temporarily, the snow falling is making me happy. It's pretty. Now. That will change, but for this very moment, it's lovely.

So I stopped to listen and I looked around and two Bald Eagles and a third juvenile Eagle were flying around overhead. One of them landed in the big tree at the end of our property and kept making that crying sound, then it flew over my house toward the pond on the next street over. The other two flew out over the field behind our property. I have seen Bald Eagles while driving to work quite a few times, and once we saw one just down the road out in a field, but this is the first time I've seen three of them together and in my yard at that!! That's what I get for joking that she doesn't need to worry about her false teeth getting cold when she eats ice cream...then when she said she felt resentful of that, I responded "well, there are privileges to getting old"....

I love making them laugh so hard!

The smiles & laughter of all the kids having a good time hunting easter eggs.

I would do it again in a heartbeat..

Wrightsville Beach....
I'm shocked this stunning beauty is only a couple hours from home.
The almost white sands were perfect!! So clean, warm and soft.
The air and wind were perfect and just the right amount of heat from sunshine and clear blue skies.
The water was beyond perfect. So crystal clear, clean and just the right temp.
I think this might be my new favorite.

Climbing all the way up to the actual chimney of Chimney Rock.

Getting up there and having the threatening rain turn into a wicked storm all of a sudden...

We found a little shelter in the lee of a big rock...but still got drenched.

There's something to be said about nature having it's way with you. Its a good reminder that not everything is under your control and that's not always such a bad thing.

It felt just like being at the helm of a ship in a storm...I've never felt so alive or free...

I no longer have the need to wallow either...I'm A blessed girl
