The swelling should go away soon. Cold compresses help. It's not unusual.

My dad called this morning to see if I wanted to grab some lunch and go see the local bald eagle's nest. There were two eaglets around 10 weeks old, and they looked like they were nearly ready to fledge. Not long after we were there, one of the parents swooped in with some prey. My dad said it looked like a rabbit.

They were pretty amazing to watch! I probably could have stayed all day to watch them if it hadn't been raining.

Snowglobe snow whirling around the streets, early on; the jumble of old buildings in the little industrial area near the city centre under a fine dusting of snow looking as if they were huddled together for warmth as I passed them on the train; the colours on a shrub picked out by the changing sunlight, now a little washed out and brown as a wisp of cloud hid the sun momentarily, now the green here and there standing out amidst the brown. Being smiled at by a good looking lass and wondering...

I almost accidentally made two mortgage payments yesterday. Actually, I briefly thought I did but found out I did not. Made me quite joyful to realize all is okay - moving money around in scramble mode was not necessary. Plus, hanging on the phone attempting to speak with a human being in customer service is time consuming.

Something different than usual was going on. The account did not list the payment as pending in the usual manner. Must have upgraded their software and forgot that part which provides user convenience. I am calling today and telling them to tell their IT Department to correct their software ... to throw up a flag in the code, insert their two code routines that they left out

1. if already paid
2. show payment pending

not rocket science ... a few minor tweaks will be all that is necessary. They already wrote the code and it worked great before it was removed.

How lame to leave that out!!! :( No one wants to dig three layers down to see if they already made their payment. Bet I am not the only one who experienced a little burden over this.

A little while ago, my little pooch Jennifer Avery, ate all her dinner. She has not eaten much at all the past few days because she sprained her left back leg.

Anyway, I nuked her 4 eggs with grated cheese and shaved turkey mixed in with her eggs. Actually I made it this morning for her breakfast. She did not eat a bite of it so I bagged it, saved in fridge.

This afternoon I noticed she was putting weight on the leg, playing some.

Jennifer is much much better and that brings me joy! She gobbled up her dinner like the little pocket pittie piglet she is! LOL!

I was at my state capital today lobbying around areas of addiction and recovery. The morning opened with a bunch of standard speakers. That part of the day closed with a drag show put on by a youth group that uses the arts as part of their recovery program, including classes teaching drag/vogue/dance. They put on a phenomenal closing act. I got to chat with them after and started arranging them to come to our city for a one day workshop for youth to learn drag and presentation and put on a show for a fundraiser for their program and ours. Total highlight of the week!

My PC is haunted by budgies. No, honestly, that's what it sounds like!

Last night, I played Civilisation V a bit, and the backround noises for the game include birdsong. Although it doesn't sound quite like typical UK birdsong, and when I thought about it, I was put in mind of a small flock of budgies that hadn't learnt any words from humans. a little tuneful, and quite sweet. Anyway, so I exited the game, and exited from Steam. Or rather, I had selected those options...

So this morning, when I ambled out of my bedroom I was surprised to note that there appeared to be birdsong coming from my lounge. Had I left a window open? No. Then I realised it was coming from my PC. checking the open desktops, no sign of Civ V, but the Steam window was still there. So I used Task Manager to kill the Steam process, which should have ended matters.

But no. STILL the budgies are twittering away.. carefully checking Task Manager, I see there's a rogue process accessing the audio systems, and there we are. Kill - no. Kill! No! Damned process will not die. I'll have to shut my PC down and restart it.

And yet I find myself strangely reluctant to do so.

My PC is haunted by budgies, and I love it!

Esme nha Maire
03-07-2018, 11:09 AM
Update to the above. Having returned from the dentists and handed in an essay assignment, I trawled through the Steam file directories looking for the Civ V files, hoping that the relevant file would be held in a normal file format rather than some esoteric thing that only Civ V could play, or some such.

I'm happy to report that I found the relevant file, and can now play it any time I want.

I have virtual pet budgies in my PC!

I have 4 work-husbands who have been steady, strong, and present with me throughout the last several years of all that life has brought me.
Today we took a little break from work and the entire team went on an outing for lunch and a little bowling.
I caught myself having a silent moment of joy sitting on the bench waiting for my turn to bowl as I watched each of them wrapping their giant paws around the shoes and laughing in that deep way that only the most bear-like men can do.

I am so fucking grateful to have these men as my coworkers and brothers.

There are several folks at my job who have referred to our little group as "Bonnie and all her Clydes" and it always feels like much less of an indictment of me having a lot of male friends and more of an acknowledgement of the "partners in crime" vibe that we all have.

My heart is joyous and grateful. <3

There was a lady and her daughter at the meat counter today. I heard her say what kind of steak do we want her daughter said ribeye. The mom said I don't know how to cook rib eyes. So I stepped over and told her how to cook steak without cooking it on the grill and how to cook ribeyes. I told her I usually get the small sirloins because they are tender and they are plenty big once you add the other fixings with your supper. She thanked me and as I walked away she said I'm and she said her name which of course I don't remember I told her mine and moved alone. The next thing I know I was going down an aisle and she was there again. She stopped me and ask me what kind of Shaker did I say to use on the steaks. So it brought me joy to tell someone how to fix themselves and enjoyable supper

I went into the village today to shop. I stopped at the hardware store to get some Iris bulbs for a garden that I made for mom. Finding a great blog and an amazing recipe for blueberry muffins. Before I could never get the berries not to bleed. Mostly people recommend coating them in flour before dumping them in but that's never worked for me. Neither have any of the other tips I've read. This one did and even better is specifically for using frozen berries. That's handy because I usually wait until there is a sale, buy them by the flat, then put them up that way. My garden. It rained most of the day but then the sky cleared to a brilliant blue and the sun shone strong and pure. The leaves on the trees had the filtered light and looked like bright emeralds and that lovely gold-green glow shone over the yard. The leftover raindrops sparkled and it was if they had little diamonds hanging from the leaves. Best of all were the flowers. The azaleas (pink, purple and white) were a bit beaten-down but the shrub roses have masses of blooms. The little miniature roses are fat with ready-to-pop blooms. The hostas are up and silver-blue and all manner of greens and swirls of yellow. The violas (blues, purples and blue/yellow) and snapdragons (yellow) are at full power (they love cooler weather). The potted Japanese maples have their lacy burgundy leaves waving in the breeze and the dogwood tree is still a froth of white blossoms.
Best of all the lily-of-the-valley which took me four years to really establish are up and starting their bloom. All along the stone path leading to the backyard it just smells heavenly. I did pluck a few of the sweet little white bells and put them in a cobalt vase in my bedroom.

Not only did my garden bring me joy, it brought me gratitude beyond measure.

Tashi behaved herself when she met my family and didn't get all bent outa shape.

Speedy the turtle seriously enjoyed her time outside.

The kitty boys and the senior kitties were all sweethearts when they met my sister's dogs.

And Taffy Tot the goat was very happy with her new enclosure that is FULL of honeysuckle vines.

Baby Briar is sound asleep next to me.

All the beautiful weather lately brings me much joy.

It was nothing more than a simple conversation with my mom. I am so lucky to still have here with me and I cherish every moment, however small, we are together. In a world that goes way too fast for her to keep up she reminds me that we only get to walk with some people for a limited amount of time. Make it count. Slow down to their pace, listen to their words no matter how long it takes them to say it and find that joy that fills the heart.

Just spending time with her in glorious weather and countryside, her pointing out plants and birds that she knows to me as we walked along. Sharing tales at a pub whilst we paused for a rest. A delightful wee picnic in a shady flower meadow. Feeling comfy in her company, and wondering where this might lead.. Looking forward to seeing her again! :-)

So I've been listening to him a lot the last few days and remembering the stories to the songs. Makes me happy :)

Good for you, Rock On. When I had sciatica flare ups, the pain was nearly continuous with extra sharp spikes here and there, so I valued every moment with little to no pain. Baby your back!

Today, it was the furlings. Their personalities are so different. Loki is a momma's boy and is waiting for me at the door when I get up and he nearly trips me 3-4 times between the bathroom and the kitchen. Gracie is respectful of personal space and will come up to me when I'm sitting in the bathroom or once I'm in the kitchen. She's not a crowder because she doesn't like to be crowded. Loki would be happy if he could be sewn onto me. No sense of personal space or privacy whatsoever.

But I have to say that I have the most beautiful creatures. Gracie with her grey and white tuxedo fur and light green eyes and Loki with his buff raccoon rings and golden eyes. She's so dainty but vicious and he's very much the huge bull in the china shop but is so lovable. They are two sides to a very interesting coin.

Back to back phone calls for positions with amazing companies!

One is for a position making double the salary that I make now (literally, TWICE the money) but in the same industry and the other is good money in a completely different industry.

I was really wanting to get out of the world of Big Data but fuck, doubling my salary does make is a LOT more attractive. The stress, however, is not something I look forward to having in my life for the rest of my working days.

The other would be a super-stable, super comfortable giant system of companies with a very decent salary doing different work than I do now with much lower stress. It's about $30,000k a year less than the other company but they have amazing bennies.

Lots to think about. :hangloose:

Every once in a while I can notice more of an improvement in my right butt, leg and foot ... talking about some pain related to lower discs playing jumble ... on my clock even. *grin* Anyway, when I got up this morning, I could really notice an improvement, made me joyful - though still sore from P.T. yesterday. That physical therapist almost tore the right cheek off my rump. I am not being funny. I was on the table following instructions doing the stretches and exercises when I suddenly got a bad pain in my right butt. I jumped off the table, was dancing around and hitting it hard. He asked me what was going on. I told him I was hurting back there. He said to get on the table and lie on my left side. I did, he grabbed my cheek and massaged it to the bone so hard. I told him he was hurting me and to quit. He said to tolerate it if I could. So I gritted my teeth for about the longest eight minutes. When I got my composure back, I looked at him dead in the eye and told him I guess he was happy he finally got a good enough excuse to play with my butt but not to press his luck and try to get familiar with any more of my goods past that. We both laughed as I was peering over the table to see if there was a piece of bloody body part of mine on the floor.

First time I have ever had physical therapy. Sometimes it gets very strange to me. So far, I have been tied up 3 times by various leather gadgets ...no chit, it looked like part of a saddle last week ...then he leans on me with that right leg in a different position every time. It always seems to hurt in the same place when he does that. And it feels just like my hips are rubber when I walk out. We are building up my core too. It took a lot of focus and concentration at first to remember to breathe while I make my stomach hard and tight as I go through these drills.

Joking about it today, telling friends at work about my roughed up butt cheek. It sure wasn't funny to me when it was happening. Hmmm, I am thinking he may have crushed the feeling out of my sciatic nerve in that area. If so, it is a good thing! LOL!

Getting an air conditioner for my office!!!! It was 85 degrees in there at 7am today. Woohoo! Only catch is my next door officemate got one too and our building is so old with the wiring that we can't run ours at the same time. So we're taking turns every other hour.

Unexpectedly getting to see my grandkids.

On the way home from NOT getting to spend the 4th with an old friend I took the wrong exit off the parkway. Turned out it put me on city streets about 8 blocks from my daughters place. On the spur of the moment, I drove by her place and it turned out their plans had been cancelled too. Got to see my grandbabies age 3, 5. and 8. With them crawling all over me, climbing in and out of every door in my van, I was in bliss.

Pure joy!

Smooches,
Keri

Yesterday:
A nice long bike ride. And I'd packed a book to make myself rest at the halfway point. I usually power through but wanted to make it a more relaxing ride. So I stopped at a shady spot by the river and read my book for a half hour before riding home. Perfect. I'm doing it again today.

Also yesterday- we ordered our wedding bands and we love them :)

So, I assumed this worker at store was being flirty. Then I thought ..no...small town...she is just being "polite" and "non-discriminatory"...

Until today.....

She informed me that tomorrow would be her last day, and she is moving north. After much conversation, something sparked in me to ask her how old she was. She told me and like took a little step back puffed up her chest and said, "so, not that much older" I was like huh? you mean me? she was like yeah, "29" ... i laughed so hard. I was like "oh sweetheart, I'm 44. So YES THAT much older!" So for a moment, it was nice to be flirted with.

She was cute too. So, I gave her my info.

Now i'm wondering .. was that wrong? and how big of an age gap would you accept to date?

It is safe to say she DID make first contact..and now we do have each other's phone numbers. However, I believe it will be more of just a fun friendship than anything.

Of course, having a/c was the lifesaving joy from yesterday.

Today, after sleeping on an awesome gel foam mattress, I felt such joy at getting some decent sleep. My body is so grateful.

Tomorrow my big leather "Momma" chair and an lovely sofa will be delivered so I'm excited and feel so much joy to have such comfy furniture to sit upon.

A pretty cool coincidence today. My girlfriend and I were headed back from vacation and stopped in at a favorite place in my old college town for a late lunch. We ordered at the counter, found a seat, and just as we were about to sit, I heard someone call my name. It was my big brother! We had chosen the table right in front of him, and I didn’t even notice him sitting there...ha!

We were both a good distance from where we live (a couple of hours...he was there for work), so it was quite a shock to run into one another. It provided for a pretty funny and unexpected first meeting between him and my girlfriend. :)

About a year ago, a man walked in to my work and handed us a check for $10,000. Wouldn't tell us his name. Had his business name on the check. Told us we do God's work and he wanted to contribute. Left the building.

Yesterday he came again, with another check for $10,000. He stayed and chatted and told us who he is and visited with myself and a few other staff, learning about what we do.

Today, I'm in a training. Get pulled out to tell me he called and wants a meeting today at 2:30 with everyone he met with yesterday. Okay so, we all go meet him. He brought in a co-worker because he wanted her to see what we do. We chatted for 10 minutes or so. Then he told us he had such an amazing visit with us yesterday, left feeling so good about the services we provide, he handed us another check for $10,000.

We have so many needs and have many grants and state support that are for specific projects. Money like this that we an apply where most needed is worth 10x it's weight. Such joy.
