Top 5, for sure!

I'm with ya on the circus peanuts. But drop the root beer crap.

It's not crap. :hrmph:

Ummm. If by number one and two you mean number one and two...hundred. ;)

Um, nope Miss Almost Math Professor.

EXACTLY!

I am 35 and I have eaten TONS of candy, soft and chewy as well as hard as nails (and I'm a chomper...the only candy I can actually let melt in my mouth are Jolly Ranchers and then I still bite the slivers), and I have no dental work at all and I've still got all of my pearly whites.

Neener neener!

ooOOoo those are good too. Kind of like the Camp Fire Girls mints...yum!

Still not top-rated, though.

I have to share with you what happened tonight.

My daughter, Liz, and her friend Ginger came over unexpectantly tonight, bearing a gift. Liz was beside herself with wanting to see my reaction...from behind her back she pulled out a plant...

a rose plant

I looked at it and thought "oh how nice, a rose bush"

and she said " not just any rose bush, Mom, its Bubi's rose bush..."

and I burst into tears...and couldnt even talk except to squeal...

when my grandmother came from the old country, she went to Chicago. After her first husband and son died of TB, she moved to relatives in ohio, where she met my grandfather, married and had several children with. She had brought a rose bush start with her from Chicago.

Every daughter received one of those starts off of that huge cottage rose, fragrant pink rose bush over the years

then the grandchildren, like me, got starts of it.

and then the great grandchildren got starts of it...

as we moved and moved and moved around, those starts were left behind. Sometimes they were unintentionally killed. Sometimes blight took them down...

but it got down to no one having any of that rose left...

but, I had an idea...

at one of my houses I had owned and gardened in for several years, that rose bush had flourished. I had wanted to go get it when I found out the house was owned by the bank. The people who bought it off of me had ruined the house and all the gardens. The house was set to be demolished.

My daughter told me the rose bush was not there. I drove past and could not see it...

I gave up. That family rose was forever gone...

until tonight...

my daughter had gone back to see the house and it had been demolished. The ground was upturned and all that was left was plods of soil and well, one single rose bush, right where this old rose had been for decades...

she ran to a neighbors, asked for a shovel and they helped her dig it out and put it in plastic with some water..then drove fast over to my trailer...

she has given me, and all the women in my family, momentum....it will carry on those who came before us and will be saved for all those who come after us.

we drove to Rose Cottage..and planted the pink lady there. No wonder Rose Cottage caught my attention for this house...

no greater housewarming gift could I have received...

the blessings of the mothers by the daughters...

my heart is huge tonight...

thank you Liz and Ginger...

my actual name is Rosemary. I was named in partial, after my grandmother whose name was Marie. And I am the spitting image of her. If you put our photos next to each other, you would not be able to tell the difference. To have her rose is SO symbolic....

I just got a phone call from the realtor. I get the keys to my new old house tomorrow!!!! He explained that because it was an estate sale, and it had been willed to every child and grandchild who lived around the country, they had to collectg signatures from each and every one of them. Its done and I can bring my cashier's check and get the keys tomorrow!

I am now a home owner again...I swear it was the blessing of the rose I planted yesterday....

A friend and I were discussing something personal and I was cutting myself down about my looks (nothing new)... but I also stated that I'm confident and content.

Their response made my heart swell and gave me a rush of joy...

"Confidence and Character go a lot farther than looks and last a lot longer and you don't have to put them on in the morning, you wake up and they are there."

I'm not glamorous, a "fashion doll", or "drop dead gorgeous"...etc etc... like my sister is... but this friend knows and appreciates my worth and confidence. And I in turn appreciate just how they have impacted my life and helped me heal from grief.

Infatuation lasts only a minute...friendship lasts forever.

I read the following at my dad's funeral...

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone,
an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone,
but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

I guess I should say more than that so....
I helped my cousin put a bunch of stuff up into her crawl space/attic.
Then we got pizza, good Italian pizza with sweet sauce and fresh cheese and pepperoni and pineapple.
Then I worked on my new studio space a bit, which I am very excited about.
Then my cousin and I rode our bikes to the beach with her decrepit but scrappy little pomeranian in the basket- what a happy dog!
Then I trimmed my hair and went to meet a friend at a lesbian and gay comedy benefit.
I was a bit late so I ended up in the performer staging area and got to meet all the comedians and chat and hear all their candid assessments of the other performers (who were Hell-ar-ious!).
Then I found my friend and met a bunch of new wimmin that I had never met before.
Then we danced, and this sweet little gay guy (that was initially disappointed when he realized I was a dyke) and I were dancing and the media guy came up and showed us our picture and said he was using it for the paper because we were such silly a-holes and looked like we were having so much fun (it actually seemed like a close-up of my double chin situation, but whatever).
A really fun day all around.
Thank you for listening!

After finally giving in and going to a doctor, I met the most amazing man. An aging hippie doctor who runs a true "free clinic". It was awkward at first, as with my history of chronic illness, he was at first ready to usher me on to another venue, but after a brief conversation decided I was "too interesting to let get away". LOL! ( I think he was excited to meet a Butch Dyke where so few exist!)

A slight, quirky fella, retired from what he deems the "for profit business of doctoring", having relocated to this remote wasteland of economics in the foothills of the blue ridge from Canada via Maryland, he spends his retirement assisting locals with the small ailments/ nuisances that would cost them a small fortune at a regular MD or "doc in a box" establishment.

Admittedly ill prepared to offer much in the line of pulmonary illness treatment, he continued to examine me, talk through my history, make notes, suggestions for where best to seek medical care, fill me in on his political views regarding healthcare reform vs universal healthcare ( for which he is an avid proponent), and give me a much needed script for antibiotics and prednisone for my current exascerbated condition.

As of late, I have felt very alone in my sense of fairness in world views, and this chance meeting gave me hope. He reminded me that we are truly a brotherhood of man.. we are our brother's keeper and it is our duty to seek fairness and elevate the just in the midst of the games of politics, even at the risk of placing ourselves in the line of fire.

I am still under the weather but I know the much needed meds will kick in in a couple days, so there is light ahead. I am still in a state of flux with my personal beliefs, but I know I am not alone. This is joy.

Thanks for the thread!

i spent the night at the home of friends so that i could help them put in a garden today. we woke this morning to half a foot of snow. so we did what all gardeners do...we drank coffee and made plans...and then we shoveled the walk and went about the gardening.

5 hours of breaking sod, picking rock, digging the manure into the new garden and putting in fence posts and now there is a beautiful 12 x 18 garden. the fencing will go up tomorrow.

the snow turned to sleet and the sleet to rain...and the rain into a beautiful evening. a hot shower, dinner, tea and some pleasantly sore muscles make for the perfect end to a very fruitful day.

and i only broke one nail.

A really seriously beautiful day starting with wonderful company of a good friend, laughter, and peacefulness... finding myself very content and relaxed, even with job fair stress tomorrow... and ending the evening with a very stunning, gorgeous sunset with a beautiful crescent moon and very bright star, good dinner, very happy, worn out furbabies, getting to listen to spring peepers and feeling safe, peaceful and "at home" way out here in the country...

I'm so happy today that I don't even want to think about returning to the city soon.

A good margarita NEVER needs an excuse.

Well, the way I was raised.... It's not quite acceble to drink your dinner... grin.. Well, unless it was one of those replacement meal drinks that kept showing up instead of my dinner plate..

What brought me joy today...

Opening up my kitchen blinds, and watching the sunrise while sipping a nice cup of coffee (with creme brulee' creamer).

The peace & quiet in the early morning hours, while I'm getting dressed for work.

Birds chipping, the flowers are in full bloom, and last night's rain made everything clean & fresh ~ LOVE Spring.

A fountain Diet Coke & the first sip burn (yeah, it's the little things).

Tomorrow is my parents 29th wedding anniversary. Things have not always been wonderful for them, and they are not perfectly matched in any manner. But, my mother loves my father. Today, while I went with her to buy the food for a picnic date she has planned for them tomorrow, I listened while she talked. She told me she knows that staying with my father has made her life more difficult, and while she knows it may not have been the best choice, she doesn't think it was the wrong choice. Its amazing to think of all the love that decision has involved. She loved him enough to find a way around all of his bad habits, all of the setbacks to their life he has caused, all of the hardship she has endured. For her, it was all worth it. That is a truly joyful thought. I hope someone can love me that much some day.

the back porch plants survived another night and are blooming and perky this morning...

I am pleased that I did all the prep work for the baking I have to do this morning so I can send it east tomorrow morning....

the package which I spent a long time OVER packing yesterday has remained sealed, so I have hope it will make it to a far-away state when I send It out as well, tomorrow morning...

I have managed to Rid myself of the 6 pounds I gained during the trial-from-hell and am now back to what I was...*that* makes me very happy and relieved...and physically much more comfortable....

I am really pleased at my reaction to two disturbing pieces of mail I got this week...I'll deal with it, one way or another, and in the mean time---it's just not gonna get my energy...

the sewing machine guy finally came yesterday and now both machines are running as they should...*and* I got his cell number so I don't even have to call the shop and deal with the owner there...I am really joyful to have them right!

we had sun yesterday and slated for today...I LOVE the sun...and, though it's going to rain this week, I am going to keep that out of my mind and enjoy what we have for now...

I'm feeling a bit ill from all the saccharine I have just typed....so I'll put my fingers to rest here and get into the kitchen and start baking !!

An anniversary picnic for my parents....

--Chocolate covered strawberries
--Salmon spread and crackers
--Pasta salad with peperoni and olives
--Roast beef sandwiches on cheese bread with a pesto mayo, avocado, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, butter lettuce, and Swiss cheese
--And of course a cheese cake with a chocolate gram cracker crust and blueberries topping.

I love spending time in the kitchen, and a romantic picnic is such a wonderful thing to make.

I then high centered the mower while my not long enough ramps fell

down goes the mower.I then waddled to pasture and stabbed myself with a
nail on the piece of plywood ( new ramp idea) .The mud stopped the bleeding
and I lugged that heavy wet suckah to my mishap area.

I then floored the mower and it was succesfully loaded and taken to the shop.:twitch: major joy indeed

when i'm falling to sleep sometimes ez tells me crazy stuff like he's going to put the remote in my panties while i'm sleeping and i wake up half-way to laugh but i'm also confused and tell him to stop all with my eyes closed. then at some point in the next day i'll remind him that i know what he told me and it wasn't nice, now that i'm awake, but he denies saying it anyway.

also, i think it's sweet (and i feel cared for) when ez wants me to listen to npr podcasts that he's heard during the day--ones that he thinks i'll like.

the way the pug puts his WHOLE body into barking, that's a work-out if i ever saw one.

A bird built a nest right outside my balcony. It was raining and cold last night but she stayed her ground and spent the night in the nest. This morning, she left the nest, and I saw this little white egg. I was like, OMG, this is so cool to see mother nature at it's best. Such tenacity creatures have, no matter what adversity faces them.
I love animals, can you tell? haha

Writing a speech today that was f-ing poetic, and when my boss read it, she said, "This is totally perfect."

Forgetting that a few days ago I bought ice cream at the grocery store. And remembering today it is coconut almond fudge. omg.

Bringing little Ivan home today brought me so much joy, this smile I'm wearing should be marketed and sold for a million bucks!!! I was so afraid that the store would sell him before I could get the little frog house set up and adjusted (temp and humidity), but there he was, waiting for me!!! :D :awww:

Little Ivan. What can I say?? That little guy is just the sweetest little soul. I thought Myron was sweet, but Ivan's got him beat, hands down!!! Little Ivan is inquisitive and just loves, loves LOVES sitting on my hand and watching everything around him!!! His little eyes are just looking at everything, all the time. If I turned my hand around, he'd turn around, readjust and just keep looking at me, as if to say "Hi there!!".

I walked away from the little frog house, where I'm housing little Ivan for a couple of weeks for quarantine, and when I returned, he was huddled under a little piece of driftwood I had placed in there for him to climb on. When I called to him, he cautiously came out from under the wood, constantly looking at me with those big black eyes, and perched himself on a vine, still looking at me. I think that little guy is going to work out just fine!!! Wait til he sees Myron's waterfall in the big frog house. :heartbeat::frog::heartbeat::awww::winky:

The actions of one particular person who took care of me while I was sick...

Those actions reminding me that it's in the small things that we show how we really care about those who touch our lives.

-having her here... the silly smiles, the dropdead gorgeous eyes, the cold nose kisses, the touches that give me shivers... just being able to have her in my arms n the warm embraces.
making coffee n breakfast for her when she gets up.

Sometimes it takes a Family.

Shopping with My niece.

Gifting My Mom and My nephew as a surprise.

Looking at car stereos for My sister (the day of her Birth is soon).

Gifting said sister with a Palm Zire. (an early present).

Today might have been a day of shopping therapy for Me. However, nothing brings Me more joy than being able to gift those that I love when it is just any ordinary day.

Joy ... brought to you by the letter ... F.

Kind words, at just the right time.

Keeping the porch clean and the door closed.

Laughter with a sweet friend and knowing we will share jam this Summer.

Joy is:

having the house to myself for a little while this morning

letting the pups out and finding the unleashed one at the door, ready to come in and other one trotting up right behind her and neither of them having rolled in :crap:....all this after letting them stay for a while longer than usual (aka more time to get into trouble)

a beautiful, sunshiney day

being prepared for my long, internet-less day at work (magazines, the paper, writings, etc)

the thought of more apple cinnamon oatmeal
