... saving a bunch of money by arranging new plans...

getting several big boxes and lots of stuff packed .. laundry done...

talking to a good friend who gives me many positive thoughts to focus on...
making plans for a fall picnic under a big golden oak tree by the creek ...

taking a break after pulling my hip outa joint... savoring a delightful, moist, sinfully sweet piece of left over birthday cake and a large glass of iced coffee ...

What brought me joy today...

the sweetest message from a femme sister this morning. It always amazes me that somehow we always know when a sister needs some extra loving.

Driving to work this morning, the early morning sunlight catching the blue on my "heart of the ocean" necklace hanging from my review mirror from Jackie & my hot stuff sister wifey. It was a lil' reminder that they are always with me!

Not only did I have a wonderful conversation with my brother about his good news and he sent me pictures of my beautiful nieces, told me about my little tomboy who wrestled against boys and won her last 5 matches then went on to semi-state and wants to play football next year but is now a cheerleader of the same high school my mom graduated from... I got invited to his wedding next year and told I have a new little niece!!

I didn't get to watch my brother grow up, but I sure love being a part of his family now. My heart couldn't be more happy!! and my face hurts from smiling so much at their pictures!

My daughter just recently lost her job, and I knew she wasn't going to be able to pay her cell phone bill, so I told her I would make a trade with her, she could clean the house and I would pay her cell bill.
She cleaned it - half the house one day and the rest of the house yesterday -
I tried to call her when I got home to tell her what a fabulous job she had done, but couldn't get her, so first thing this morning I woke up, gave her a and told her thank you and she asked me, "Mom, did you check your bedroom closet."
And I hadn't, so I opened the door - she had completely reorganized all my clothes, matching all colors, blouses, dresses, skirts, and pants, long sleeves to short - It was soooooo cool!!
I laughed and she laughed and we shared a moment of pure sweet joy with one another.
I love her!!!

my daughter & i decided this evening that we're going to get a pumpkin and carve it.. i am off Halloween night, and so we'll hand out goodies to the trick o' treaters this year, which feels exciting to me. i am usually working Halloween nights so that co-workers with young children can have it off to take their children out..

So sitting on the front step, with Halloween goodies, our mittens and hoodies on, decorations up, jack o' lantern lit & admiring the creative, cute costumes and.....well, time with my 16 year old daughter who has been making some not so good choices in her life. i worry about her, a lot.. And her wanting to do this with me, excites me.. This is the very reason i don't give up on her, she knows everything right now, and is stubborn, tests my patience and i'm certain is trying to turn me grey - but she wants to spend time with her momma..

What brought me joy today was the first day after the tooth was yanked so no pain! Secondly, I went to work to find the lights out, doors locked...four employees to oversee the operations today. Really wasn't too bad though. A quiet day teaching the new guy the layout in the charts and how to audit charts before the cases are closed. This afternoon felt like a nap. Wow. Easy day for first day back. Now tomorrow I go to my other internship site. There is a Career Fair so I am excited to go watch the day unfold! So I shared not only today's joy and excitement but what will be my joy tomorrow. Is that cheating? LOL!

My friend is 52 years old and has never carved a pumpkin.

She grew up fanatically religious and left the church about 8 years ago.
I have known her for about 6 years and I knew she dressed up and decorated for Halloween, but I never realized she didn't carve pumpkins. I stopped carving them years ago and I had ceramic pumpkins with candles so it never crossed my mind when I saw the pumpkins uncarved.

Today she asked me to show her how to carve a pumpkin and roast the seeds. I honestly thought she was joking.

She is having so much fun, she is like a little kid. It has brought me so much joy to help her and watch her have fun with this children's project.

I love that she trusted me enough to ask me to help her as she has a lot of shame around not knowing how to do this simple task.

She is so excited I am here to stay with them, she is talking about all the projects she wants to do/try. It is great for me as I have really been in my head the last few months and it will be good to be creative again.

I think this will be a good place to be for a while.

My 14 yo daughter has never had an official swim lesson, except maybe a few at the community center. Other than that, she is entirely self taught.

Just for shits and giggles, she decided to try out for her high school swim team. Tonight was the tryout, and Coach came over to talk to me. She told me Holls had a great physique for swimming and lots of raw potential. She just didn't know any techniques, breathing or turns, and that kept her too slow. However, if she could pick up some private lessons between now and when the team has to be finalized and shave off 15 seconds (!) from her time, she's on the team! In fact, the coach spoke of turning her into a diver next season.

Private lessons means $, but if this is her passion (and she's always swimming), and wants to do the work, I will support her. You just never know what can happen in 2020 ;).

A great lunch today with ArkansasPiscesGrrl, who had me in absolute stitches. The most I'd laughed in a good long time. <3 you, my friend!

I had two huge epiphanies just before and during the lunch:

1. My life is not totally lost, as I'd thought. "Lost" would mean I have no idea what I want or where I'm going. I know very well what point A looks like-I can see that in every facet. However, I also know what point B would be like, so I actually have a vision. The trick is to take the steps to get there, however long.

2. At last year's Reunion and this year, I told myself that I didn't want to take up a hotel room for myself (being local) that someone from out of town would need. I came to a sudden thought last night that this is a cop-out. I didn't take a room because I was afraid of potential intimacy or a serious conversation breaking out, or actually facing myself. My way, if things got uncomfortable, I could bail. I felt as if I had my feet in two worlds. I had a wonderful time, but I know it was what I call "Reunion Lite".

Well, no way. I'm there, in a room next year, whatever happens. More to the point, I'm setting out for my points B, full steam.

It's a challenging journey but one with many accomplishments & much joy. If i could offer any inspiration to any women out there who want the same, that they can follow their dreams & build on their self-esteem, i want to do exactly that, and pay that forward with much thanks to those who helped me when i needed it most before moving to Oregon. ♥ And definitely something i will continue to pay forward when i move there as well!

...is a manager for a local pizza place. Earlier today she needed to help some of the folks making pizza deliveries because apparently in our city no one cooks on Christmas Eve.

She was quite irate that she had to take a large delivery to a section of our national state park on this wet, windy, gloomy day. She texted me to make sure I was aware of her feelings about this.

About 45 minutes later she calls me while I am working (she knows not to do this unless she is bleeding to death or she is dead). I answered the phone and all I heard was sobbing. I collected my composure (I was in a room with a patient who was getting chest compressions as he was dying). Finally, she said, "Mom, I pulled up by the amphitheater at the park...a little boy (about 6 years old) came running to my car...I thought he was flagging me down for the delivery. He shouted, "I have got to tell you somethin', lady...it is the best Christmas EVER....I got adopted today!"

She could barely find the folks who ordered the pizzas through her tears.

I had to take a step back from the bed of my patient as I watched the nurses try and restore life to him to no avail. I decided to share this phone call with this elite medical team. As this young man entered a new plane through his transition, this young boy has been given a new life with a loving and warm family.

Miracles happen.

Assembling the aluminum tree that was my beloved Granny's, and which was the tree I remember from my first Christmases at her house back in the very early 60's, so that my grandchildren could have a Christmas tree in this year of so many upheavals for them, since they just finally moved out of my house with my ex and their mom, who couldn't be bothered finding even just the pull-out-of-the-box-and-it's-done tree for them. So it was first out of frustration that I decided to put this up -- me, who is religiously Jewish though culturally Christian, celebrating this as a secular holiday with Pagan roots -- but now it's with joy: I'm finally back in my home, after months of being disconnected or absent from it. My beloved grandchildren will be here tomorrow to celebrate with me under a tree that my gifts were under at their great-great-grandmother's house over 50 years ago. I have almost two weeks now to get my house in order and reclaim my life in this house. Despite all of its challenges, life is GOOD.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve. GHD's cousins stopped by for a visit, which was great, and dinner was delicious. Our heat is on the fritz, so we had to light a fire in the fireplace. It looked so beautiful, with the decorations on the mantle, the stockings hanging, and a fire blazing away. I got a laugh because my son, who is disabled and, at 13, STILL believes in Santa, had a million questions about HOW Santa was going to be able to deliver the presents. If we have a fire, how is he going to be able to come down the chimney?? Because the living room is now the warmest room in the house, that is where my son is sleeping....but that is also where the tree is. So, GHD and I just had to be VERY quiet Santas and put all the gifts under the tree. It made it that much more fun. What a wonderful night!

The gift from my niece Carly. She is blind and profoundly mentally challenged. She goes to a "special" school. Her school has a gift shop that the kids get to go and pick out xmas gifts for their family. The teacher has a list of names for each student and one by one they go to the gift store and chose the gift they want to give the people on their lists. This year for me she choose a paper weight. A white carved stone with a hummingbird painted on it. It is so cool !!!! I love hummingbirds. I always wonder what makes her chose the gifts she does. It is my favorite gift I received this year !!!!!!!!!

The moon.

Just a few short years ago i decided i wanted to learn how to shoot the moon, since every photo i ever took of it was a white blob. i've always loved looking at it, and wanted to capture it, but i never could do it.

Out on the lake in Oregon i went out every month in the winter, when i wasn't too tired and shot it. i would run in so excited, only to load the photos and find nothing but white blobs.

After a few months i started to get it, the settings i would write down for the following month. Soon enough i was taking awesome moon shots.

Now, i can run out on the fly and shoot it!

Persistence pays off!

Sitting upstairs this morning...listening to the family's interactions downstairs since my brother and his family are visiting from many miles away. I noticed that my brother's role in the family when he comes home is that of story-teller. All of the family sits around and interacts with him as he tells the tales from his life. He only makes it home about twice maybe three times per year. Funny part is he just returned to the states from Puerto Rico and the Carribean. Today he is in Pennsylvania where there is 19 inches of snow. Haahaa!! He asked what was wrong with that picture.

More joy came tonight by my niece asking me to teach her how to crochet. I gave her a skein of yarn and a crochet hook and taught her two basic stitches. She practiced and practiced. I think she may eventually get good at this...Haahaa!! But right now she is all thumbs and fingers with yarn all over the place. *Laughs some more. She is a sweetie. Hard to believe she is quickly approaching 30. Ahhhhh...where do the years go??

While sitting in my recliner eating dinner. My dog had her chin resting on my knees watching me eat. She would start to fall asleep, but was really trying hard to fight it. It was the cutest thing ever. And of course she got some when i was done eating. :)
