Driving home tonight from a very long day on the road in northern Michigan, and there was a huge accident on the freeway coming in to Lansing, where I live. That's not what brought me joy, of course.

Traffic had to detour on to a country road, through a state wildlife area, and as I was driving through, I spotted a pair of sandhill cranes. The female painted with mud, her camouflage while nesting. And the male standing right next to her. And standing, a bit wobbly between them, was a fledgling crane.

I was sad for the accident, but happy for the detour. Isn't life always like that?

Tomorrow promises to be a day of my brain being challenged, questions with illusive answers being posed and always the untimate 'why?' I am teaching a class on human suffering, depression, and ways to cope with such when our patient's face the end of their lives. I stare at the power point slides I have prepared. Polished, refined, spell-checked. It looks good. But how do I get this message to ring true to these professional caregivers? How do I ensure they know in their own lives they need to check themselves and live life as if tomorrow never comes their way. To watch hypervigilantly for ways to come to them to give and receive joy...

She came to see me Friday night. A long drive for her with her large, rotten dog in tow. We had been sharing our lives through several other mediums but we were yet to be in each other's presence. She knocked on my door. I opened it and we fell in love right there in the laundry room. This is fairy-tale stuff, she says. We spend two days together and try to pack in the many days on the horizon that we will be physically apart. She has to return to her home, her obligations. I must do the same. It is 2 AM Monday morning. She was to have left much earlier but it just did not happen. I see how tired she is and offer whatever I can to help her be alert for the long drive...coffee, tea, a hot shower? She opted for the latter. I went back to the recliner to study my presentation. Time is drawing to a close and I need to focus. I hear the water.

She begins her hot shower and I lament about trying not to miss opportunities in this life that bring us pure joy. She is 3 rooms away from me. Why am I sitting here? I go to the shower and offer to wash her back. She asks me to join her. I start to tell her of the things I 'need to be doing.' The look in her eyes told me differently. I realized this is one of 'those' times to experience her and everything she brings to me. I undress and join her in the shower. I look at her. She is every bit as beautiful as the first time I kissed her. She stood before me - skin wet and shiny from the hot shower and with every ounce of her vulnerability there for me to hold. I abide with her. She looked at me with eyes that said love me, protect me, have me. I gently bathed her. I washed her hair and helped her rinse off. Touching her lifted me to another plane. Never had I experienced the energy nor the force of this kind of loving. She gently bathed me in return. She kissed me as the water ran over both of us as we entangled our arms around each other. She continued to bathe me with such tenderness that I felt I had transformed into a spiritual being and could sail through the heavens. I almost missed this beautiful experience because I was caught up in the 'need to's' of life. She was 3 rooms away from me and about to be another 600 miles from me within the hour. I wanted to be with her...love her...touch her. Following many warm and sensual kisses we left the shower and dried one another. We never lost eye contact...you see, we can show love through our eyes if only we take the time.

Within the hour she had to go. We kissed and kissed again. The tears came this time as we shared some lyrics so special to us..."She says, "Wake me up, no pretending" I'll keep stealing, breathing her; birds are leaving over autumns ending; one of us will die inside these arms, eyes wide open, naked as we came, one will spread our ashes around the yard."

Headlights switch on to highbeam to show her the way home. I stand there and listen to the engine's noise disappear into the night. I go to my bed and begin to doze wondering if she is alert. I am suddenly roused from sleep. I hear the water. It has begun to rain.

Well, I work with kids, and yesterday a little boy asked me if I was a man or a woman... I mean how does one explain that in an understandable way to a four year old, so I answered: "Does it matter?" And his respons was "No, you can be what ever you want." Made me happy that kids get it, but also a little sad that grown ups often doesn't...

Mahhh Woman (as always)

Getting BRAND NEW TIRES on the car (this is the second time in my whole life I've EVER had BRAND NEW TIRES!)

Getting all new soap, deodorant, body spray, teeth whitening stuff, and listerine...I can't wait to take a shower. I'm gonna be the cleanest EVER.

Getting a haircut

The fact that Mahhh Woman is now much safer with the tires on the car, and I don't have to worry so much when she drives in the rain

Seeing the blown tire before it blew on the highway

The fact that the tire didn't blow while Mahhh Woman was driving on the highway

Getting to spend the whole weekend with Mahhh Woman before I go outta town again

My book FINALLY came in the mail today, and it's better than I'd hoped! It's one of the best books ever.

My thanks and joy to those everywhere all of over the world who have fought for freedom, peace and harmony.

Especially in "our community" those who have had to hide who they are just to serve their country. Those that have passed, those that have served and or still serving....

A sweet and joyous day with my honey and Pops.

Took Pops to get a recliner and had a sweet time watching Jackhammer and my Pops wrestle it into the house and position it "just so".

I have NEVER taken for granted how lucky I am that my partner and Dad not only get along but embrace each other as family. The visits where my Father comes to the house and walks right past me to go see where my partner is and what she is doing are the ones that remind me to be grateful and thankful for the love around me.

(Now if I could just figure out how to beat my Pops at Yahtzee....I've been trying to beat him for 16 years and haven't done it yet!!)

As long as I have animals in my life I will find joy of some kind each day. They make me laugh they make me cry, they make me angry, they make me think, they make me make decisions, they make me do things I'd never even think of sometimes. Animals at some point can make me experience every possible emotion known to mankind, and to know I am able to experience emotions and respond positively and unconditionally is a joy to me. Only wish I could do this equally with people.

As many of my friends know...Last Thursday was moving day.

I've had a challenging past few years - including watching Mom go through treatment for incurable Lymphoma, my Dad dieing recently, and hurtful times involving my son - this move was both a VERY good thing and a difficult decision to leave my dear friends and my Mom. Thursday, I busted my ass loading the truck and making sure my car was secured safely to the dolly. Thursday and the past few weeks were extremely taxing on me - mentally and especially physically. Friday, I had a horrible start to my day...but enjoyed a late breakfast with Mom...then finally headed South with a piece of crap truck with car in tow.

It's been a very long time since I made such a big move out of state. Even when I think about the challenges & hardships I've faced, I sincerely believe making the decision to move to my new Home is the BEST thing that's happened to me in what feels like a lifetime.

Friday when I first started driving, I had so much on my mind that it was too hard to focus just on driving...and I was so distracted with looking out my rear view mirrors at the cars beside me and the trailer that I was towing, that I wasn't REALLY paying attention to what was in front of me. I was constantly watching what was behind me. I had been following the same vehicle towing a large camper for about 30-40 miles, but was just really nervous about my trailer and what was behind me. Suddenly, I realized with a JOLT what was written on the back of that camper... in large bold print, it said "The Best Is Yet To Come!" ...

I read it again, still stunned that I hadn't noticed it before...
"The BEST Is Yet To Come!" ... that one statement hit me with such a jolt because of all the negative things and stress my mind had been focused on that morning. This really brought me joy because it's confirmation of how I've been feeling lately... it's time to stop focusing on the past and things I have had no control over, and time to start focusing on the BEST things ahead of me.

That statement added a bolt to my confidence and made me feel that I can sincerely focus on positive changes.

I am still a bit in shock about finding that message on the back of a camper... but it was a really fun, happy message.

I have had/have a ton of what seems like plain crap on my plate for the last few months. Sometimes it's all very trying. Today I left work with an hour drive ahead of me. I got 10 minutes into it and started crying. I've never been one to feel bad about crying but, this was different. I wasn't thinking of anything that would have started it, I was listening to "Wait, Wait don't tell me" on NPR, a funny show. It was that cry though that brought me joy. I must have needed it. when I was done about 30 minutes later, the joy and gratitude I felt for life around me was noticeable. Maybe I'll cry again tomorrow. *grin*

Having a lazy Sunday afternoon ~ watching mindless reality tv, snoozing off & on, and pizza! Those kinds of days don't happen very often for us!

Waking up this morning from a great night's sleep & feeling completed refreshed & recharged.

Puppy sitting at work, the oh so cute, but mean as hell 5 pound Yorkie. The man brought me in a baby gate to put up... so he doesn't bite the ankles of every one that walks in the door! Aww, he looks like he is in jail ;)

And while he tested pos for heart worm, dogs who had have it and been treated for it, test pos. The vet suspects this is true for him since his heart is healthy and strong, he has energy out the wazzzoooo and is in general good health! Yay for Old Gus. Now after 4 days on the antibiotics, he can get groomed and join us on the main floor with me and Story and if he gets along with Story, we will become his forever home. If he doesnt, then I will find him a perfect forever home..

Today was surprise inspection day. A day that my managers dread months in advance and are always a teensy bit on edge because...hello...it's a SURPRISE as to when the inspector will show.

Also, they don't announce it immediately. It's like a secret shopper deal. They come, they check in, they get the scoop on the property and in the morning, they pounce. Quality control with a kick, basically.

We passed but that's not the fabulous, joy-inducing part. I....*me*....I got singled out for being...and I quote...."definitely one of the top ten friendly desk clerks I've ever met and I worked for 10 years at luxury hotels and spas and now spend about 20 nights a month in hotels doing this"....in case no one else was doing the math, that's a LOT of fuckin' people, ya'll.

And I'm in the top 10. :cheer:

It's the BEST way (short of receiving a raise, which won't happen, but is nice to daydream about) to end my Friday. I am now officially ready for my weekend. After the morning I've had, this is just what I needed.

Watching several little kids walk by my house on the way to our newly constructed children's parks (fantastic green manufactured equipment and safety measures installed!). Mainly, it was the fact that there were Latino, African American, Asian, Turkish, Afghani, Iranian, and Black African families enroute. A couple of white families, too. Hummm... no Native Americans, however. Big smiles and lots of skipping up the sidewalk. Many songs being sung. My dog was a little wiggle machine looking at all the kids! The remodeling of the park was a joint effort of the city and private citizens working together.

My contract ends on June 17th. That means by September of next year, I have to find a new one. BUT... The principal of the middle school that I work at asked me today to stop by her office. She wanted to ensure me that they were doing everything they could to make sure that I had a position with them again next year. That all the appropriate district personnel had received nudges and not so subtle reminders that my contract was ending and they simply couldn't do with out me. Also, she asked if I would be interested in working with a new program shes hoping to start next year and asked me to apply for that position if it comes open over the summer. YAY ME!!! Today I found joy:

In watching six snails slowly slide across an apple slice...breakfast!
In two frogs throwing down across a parking lot...crrroooaaak
In the internet going down for our customers...day flew by

In a tete-a-tete with my darling stepson who constantly builds me up. I love that kid
In a friend who can tell me when I'm getting out of my hula hoop and to jump back (in)
A picture of the house I grew up in posted to Facebook compliments of my 2nd boyfriend. Nice to still be friends
A list like this that just gets longer the more I think about my lovely world and my loving friends

A surprise text from my faboo daughter, saying, "I'm coming home".....and then having a great dinner ~ closing down the restaurant....laughing and laughing and laughing......going to the bank in the forest (her words) and then on to the grocery store where we were chastised for trying to buy wine at straight~up midnight. Bastids.

But we still laughed.

She's just so gorgeous, I love watching all the guys doing the double~take thing when she passes by. Makes me smile.

She'll be here all weekend! Yea!

What brought me joy today...

The smell of fresh cut grass.

Seeing children playing in the garden sprinkler and hearing their laughter as I drove past.

Hearing the ice cream truck coming down the street, and remembering how often we would chase the truck down (for fudgebombs & push ups) when we were kids.

A yummy, half frozen, 100 calorie Starbucks mocha light frappuccino.

Going home on my lunch break, and catching a 20 minute cat nap.

Plans this Sunday to celebrate my brother's belated birthday & Father's Day. We haven't done this as a family in about 10 years.

Watching the new baby calf, stumbling on wobbly legs, trying to catch up with her momma.

The peace and tranquility of my country home. Watching the beautiful birds flitting and bickering over the birdseed I put out for them. Sitting out on my deck looking at the trees in full foliage swaying in the breeze. So green, so still, so beautiful. I love my house and my green mountain home, with critters large and small - black bear (haven't seen any in a couple of years), wild turkeys that wake me every morning with their 'goble-goble' alarm clock, chipmunks scurrying here and there, squirrils chasing each other, and lastly the deer. Ah, wilderness!! I wouldn't change it for the world. Only thing missing is someone to share it with...

Words with meaning.

Spending the evening with My niece. Making her dinner, playing Monopoly.. and taking her for an ice cream.

My Mom calling Me and letting Me know she made it home safely.

An a/c purchase...knowing they are cooler now.

A meeting and plans for the woods. Bittersweet joy.

A phone call from My BFF.

An IM filled with honesty from a sweet friend.

Knowing that if tomorrow never comes, there was joy today.
