Nifty news (and a little bit of sad news*)! The Risk projects are going out in the mail tomorrow (Pixie, yours was received this afternoon). And even better news: they are mad, crazy cool, absolutely phenomenal, all of them!
*Tommi and I have been in contact, as his never arrived even though he mailed it. Of course, he will get his package, but right now his package is missing. Hopefully he will post a pic of his project that he luckily took, though I know it's not the same.

Here is a picture of my RISK Project. They are each handpainted wooden initials, with magnetic strips and decorated with letters, pictures, etc., or something relating to each of you. I did get to RISK, with a glue gun, glitter, and little bitty things.

My reunion project is done
I kind of did what I was supposed to do
sort of
however
I am very happy with what I have done
it is all less than a quarter of an inch thick
and
ready to be bound
Corkey is almost done too
A thought:
I took pictures of mine, what if we all did that?
then maybe right before the reunion we could post them?
probably in the thread?
that way everyone could see what we did
even those not going
it might brighten their day
I just wanted to let you all know that because of my past participation in some of the projects on this thread, I am able to purchase and store cheese in the freezer and refrigerator. Because aluminum foil just doesn't keep cheese fresh and I refuse to buy plastic baggies unless I absolutely have to. So...Thank You! :D
That is all.

I receive my packet of art!! Wow! Risky, frisky and beautiful!
I just want to say that mine was risky because I never used one of my (iPhone) photos in an art project before, and neither have I used glitter. I had taken the photo in preparation for the ill-fated "wet dreams" on my birthday during a visit to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and decided to use it (did you notice the shiny copper coins at the bottom corner?). Looking for a suitable way to mount the photos, I found I had enough mats recycled from a printing studio, and decided to actually "frame" them. Wanting the "frames" to look rich and opulent, I decided to use glitter I had purchased from Martha Stewart Christmas Craft Fair (thinking I would use it to make cards, which never happened).
I was pretty pleased with the results!
Elle*, looking forward to the next project, and very contrite about realizing I never sent Jenny the money!

Hopefully the rest of you will receive your projects on Tuesday :)
Since Elle and I both live in NY the mail is only a hop, skip, and a jump away.
I hope that as people receive their packages, they will come to the thread and explain what risk they took and how they did it. I love hearing about that just as much as the art itself! Also, it teaches us all new techniques. I also like hearing about people's emotional process when doing something new :)

To kindly correct gemme.
You do not, if you are doing a normal size paper have to leave any room for binding. the book is bigger than that and I am doing some additional things to make it more cohesive after I receive them.....so please fill up the page if you so desire.

Sure you can. We will be finished up in a week with what we are working on now.
So, you are subscribed, and that's a beginning~ and new things will be coming soon. Someone will put out an idea, and then it begins.....
We have almost finished our last project and it needs to be in the mail by Sept 16th.. Some folks will be tied up in getting ready for and going to the Reunion, so not sure who or what we will be getting into next.
Stay tuned, and I would read back to see how and what we have done. (like since Feb. ) This summer it was pretty slow and we worked on pages for a book to be raffled off at the Reunion.
Yay! Can't wait to see them you guys!
Also, I won't be leaving the "bull" address until after the reunion....so the new deadline date is September 16, to give me time to get it all together and fantabulous by the reunion!

I don't know what to say, oh wait yes I do.....
this is a extremely welcoming group
no one is ever told anyone they can not join
This is an artistic/crafty project thread
we keep the size of the project small due to costs of postage
one person wrangles the current project and does a lot of work for the group
because it is a creative project we do not tell each other how to do the project. Some are writers and their project will reflect that. Some are painters and some are crafters.
One of the amazing things about these projects is the many different ways that people interpret the theme. In this case retro.
Once the sign up date is reached and we know how many projects to make we get started.
say 10 people sign up,
we then do 10 projects, they can all be different or all can be the same
then we mail them to the wrangler (Diva this time around)
she sorts them and then mails everyone out a package
you will receive a package with one project from each person that signed up.,
the themes always are different.
we send 5 for postage to Diva (or whoever is wrangling) to cover the cost of mailing stuff back to us.
we usually don't let new people wrangle until they have been around a bit cause we would not want someone to keep the money and not send out the packages
We do try to make sure newbies feel welcome
we are all (you included) busy
as people get back into the swing of a new group project we would have updated/provided info
you could have read back through the thread to see if the answers to your questions were already there
you could have assumed Diva was super busy (she did at least respond)
and responded with some questions that expressed what info you needed or used humor or something
But to assume that someone was being rude and that we where not being welcoming was a very negative way to handle this (and honestly is an indicator of a bit of your personality)
Sooooooo perhaps you would like to give this a try and give people a chance to get to know you. Also, read back and see how we treat new people. They are not ignored and we do answer their questions.
and just so you know, I am super nice and super direct with occasional moments of sarcasm tossed in to keep me happy. Please take this as coming from a place of trying to assist you and make things more clear.

Thanks for all you said, I appreciate it. I did not think to look back to the post for what was being discussed as a new project, and in one of the posts it said more to come, so I did not know. But I do need to say in my defense because somehow this became about my personality, I did not say anyone was rude. I simply said I felt like I asked a question...to which anyone could have answered and the only thing I got was the original post of the new project??? So it made me feel like I was being ignored or dismissed.

Oh I don't know saying you don't feel welcome and then stomping off is well, not very nice either.
So are you joining in or ?
Me being who I am, I'm the blunt one, I kinda take folks at face value.
I also know that when joining any thread to read back, just so I know what is being discussed. Make since?
If you want to stay we'd enjoy seeing your craft, but we don't take folks names off lists, they have to do that for themselves, 'cause it's their decision.
I feel I made an attempt to let people know I was a newbie wanting to join in, I was told a new project was pending and more info will come. Then the project was introduced, and I jumped in but I also asked for more clarification, at which point no one gave me more info. Sorry that doesn't feel very welcoming to me. If anyone wanted to have welcomed me to the group they could have very simply answered my question, or pointed me back in the thread to previous projects for my own answers. Instead I got the original post put back at me. I was in no way trying to 'stomp off', I was just saying I felt unwelcome, and to take me off this project cause I didn't understand what we were doing, and no need to hold up the group cause I wasn't getting it. So think what you want of me, but I did not feel welcomed by this group and I feel I am being scolded for telling the truth about how I feel.
I guess it is great that everyone is blunt, but when people don't know you yet, it comes across rude.

So we must be on your time table, got it. Thanks for the heads up. Oh we're all adults here you either want to participate, or you don't, but your name on a list is up to you. Nice intro.
Sorry you feel I had a nice intro. I am sad to think everyone had an opportunity to hear I was not feeling welcomed and everyone blamed me and accused me of ugly things. The bottom line is that I did not feel welcome, and I really don't now. So that shows a lot about you too.

Jen-
We understand your point. I am sorry you took the original replies out of context and that it left you feeling unwelcome, I can promise you it wasn't the original intent. We are all busy and doing multiple things for the upcoming reunion and life in general and sometimes we have a hard time reading others minds. I hope you find a thread better suited for you since this one is obviously not what you are looking for. Good luck.

I don't get in here for a few days and look what happens?
What am I going to do with all of you?
Sweetie, welcome to the site and to one of the best 'crafty' threads you'll find here. I might be biased, but hey, we all have our preferences, right?
If you'd like to kind of watch the thread and see how things flow before you kick in and participate in a project is absolutely fine. So is not participating all all. Above all else, folks should feel comfortable in here.
Ami provided an exemplary outline for how the process typically works and, as mentioned, most folks are preparing for the Reunion, which is about 3 weeks away. So the flow of the thread will dictate that.
We do have a tight knit group in here but we do welcome others as well. You never know; we might wind up keeping you.
*grin*

I have participated in two projects, so consider myself a newbie too! I never felt unwelcome, but I do take responsibility for what and how I feel. No one will ever "make me" feel this or that way. I choose how I feel! If confronted with the same post being offered to me after I asked for more explanation, I would have persisted and told the group, "Hey, I am new, and not really sure I understand! I do want in, can someone hold my hand and help me through?"....or something to that effect...
I would say that in participating, I did gain both insight into other artists' minds, and into my own. I don't take that lightly, and it is worth, to me, giving wide berth to all the vicissitudes of life....how busy people can get, impatient (nothing personal) and even ornery (or blunt...which to me is a good quality)....Giving people the benefit of the doubt always has worked for me......
I hope you find what you need, whether in this group or elsewhere!

Oh! Thank You for asking! I thought I said something! lol
The show was a success for my first go at it! It was 2 days and by early afternoon on the first day, I had recooped to pay for my rental and the cost of my tent! So I was pleased over that, as the space rental was not cheap!
I sold about 1/3 of my pieces and got 7 commissions! Also, 2 folks asked about classes....which I had NOT considered, but now have one class scheduled for November! A one~day artist workshop about what I do! I'm VERY excited about THIS! It speaks to the teacher in me!
Lots of contacts from this experience, as well....and networking galore!
I will do the Spring show in May, I have decided.......because of the success of the Fall Festival. And I was also invited to participate in a smaller show in November for the Pit Bull Rescue Festival! So I'll be making Christmas goodies for this show!
Candace help me set up and another friend helped me strike on Sunday night. Lots of friends stopped by.......Candace was there......ShariBerry and her daughter and Ebon and Gemmie, too!
Life. Is. Good!
Currently, I'm working on the piece for the Reunion Raffle and it's turning out SO well! I will post it when I complete it!
Bugs....
I adore origami!!!!!! One Christmas, my daughter and I discussed covering the tree in white cranes, but we never got the chance to carry out that plan!
I'm not sure *I* could do it! :eyebat:

I can't believe it took me this long to spot this thread! How wonderful that there's so much creativity here. I just love it!
I'm curious: has anyone tried swap-bot.com for trading art? I've been there for a few years and I like it. It's got a nice little system. I've done some trading through my blog as well, but I never saw a thread in these forums for swapping art before.
I'm going to subscribe to this thread to watch for your future trades and such!

Hi artistic/craftsy friends!
I am so happy right now because my creative muse came to visit me today. Finally! I decorated a picture frame, beaded two bracelets, and finished a cross-stitch project. I still don't have time/energy/money to participate in posted projects (yet), but I wanted to stop by and say hello and that I miss you and I'm so glad everyone's still hanging around. :)

I wanted it to look like an old map.........and in fact, there are pieces of an old map ON it, but You can't see it very well.....
And then I just wanted the only color to be the Planet.......then the orbits, of course........
So tell me.........do I need to lighten it up? (The painting.........)

During holiday times, people often enter into cookie clubs, where people make a dozen of a particular kind of cookie for every person in the club. That way everyone ends up with a bunch of different kinds of cookies!
I say we do that with holiday cards. We can make two (or more) cards per person for everyone who signs up. That way we can keep one for ourself and have one to give away! (or more)
I would even be willing to wrangle this if you want...

If I don't already have your address (most people I do have), then PM me it when you sign up.
I will mail you a doll that you will alter for the project.
Please use the doll that I send you (not your own doll), because the idea will be to see what we each do with a doll that is relatively the same.
You can do whatever you want with the doll! I will send some clothes, accessories, etc. but you don't have to use them or even every part of the doll itself. The idea is to do whatever suits your fancy! And don't send me back what you don't use, just send me back what you consider your finished product. You are totally free to add your own stuff, as long as at least part of the doll I send you is used as the base for construction.
When you are done send the doll back to me with five dollars for shipping.
I will take a picture of all of our dolls together and then send you one doll altered by someone on our list to keep (a surprise, no special requests please) along with a picture of all the dolls.
Note: You don't have to do anything amazing with the doll. You can completely alter her or, for example, just have fun making her pretty in your eyes. Whatever the hell is fun for you!
Please post any questions directly on this thread.

OMG!!! OMG!!! I :stillheart: this idea!!!! It reminds me of Ami's a couple years ago and I had so much fun seeing how everyone took the same components and used their imagination to create something altogether new and fantastic.
I'm psyched for this project!!!

Yes, Ami was totally my muse :).
A note to all: While I said that you CANNOT tell me something like, "I know I want Diva's doll" or "Tommi and I have decided that we want each other's doll" it's fine to let me know: "I'm not getting along with nycfembbw right now. Do not send me her doll or send mine to her." I don't want someone not to join the project just because they have an issue with one person on the list.

At first I had a bit of a stressful moment, in your honor. I didn't catch the "one" doll part and was thinking that $5 postage just was NOT going to cover sending out all those darn dolls and was starting to try to figure out how much extra I'd pitch in to help with the dolls.
Methinks I'm still a little tired this morning.

Yes, we love having new people! The only thing we ask is that you only sign up if you are really going to follow through. I hope you decide to join! I'll post the project today :)
Thank you!
I’d love to do it, but, I do have a reservation about the posting time frame….I live in the UK and it takes about 10 days for mail to arrive from the US and approximately the amount of time for it to arrive Stateside….that wouldn’t give me much time to get creative. This morning (yep! A second Sunday of postal deliveries which is usual at this time of year for Royal Mail) I received a parcel from one of my friends in Texas that has taken nearly 4 weeks to get here by Airmail.
Is it possible to do a creative/crafty swap in place of the monthly challenge? I’ll understand if this isn’t possible.

Anyone interested in doing a crafty swap? On offer is one of my hand embroidered 'Wobbly Masterpieces'….
If you are interested, please PM me what you’d like me to make for you (smaller projects for overseas due to postage costs with regards to weight) and what your colour and design preferences are, as well as your name and address. I will send you a link to my Flickr page so you get some idea of the things I do (not all of my work is up there, yet!).
I’ll say allow two months from when you PM me for creating the swap gift and for posting overseas.
All I ask is that if you cannot devote the time, please say so. :)

Kiwi, it's frustrating to do the work (and I'm on the guilty list, so pot~kettle!) and then wait and wait and WAIT for someone to deliver. We've had some who sign up (repeatedly) only to never deliver their work to the wrangler du jour. It's frustrating, that's all.
And we talk about you if you do that. :giggle:
No. Really. :eyebat:
