Just wanted to check out what you are all up to. Still on stay at home and get creative, but wait, I need to clean out the garage, or fix the dripping faucet, or..why don’t I wash the windows.

Okay, I knew I had cabin COVID fever when I decided to clean all the light switches with Q-tips and peroxide. Not wasting isopropyl alcohol during hard times.

Maybe I’ll untangle paper clips tomorrow. Oh damn, it is tomorrow. :|

Zen tangle looks like fun. But never ever have done it, no experience.

I’ll check back in after this one

Hi, everyone!

Guess what... I mailed out everyone's postsecret packages today! It was my first time going into a post office since the beginning of March! I used gloves, hand sanitizing wipes, glasses, and a mask. So here are some notes for you about your post secret projects:

(1) I put the secrets in a flat priority mail envelope and also a gift from me is in the flat priority mail envelope so ya better look! I put them in this type of envelope to minimize the chance of them bending.

(2) I then put the flat priority mail envelope into one of the flexible priority mail envelopes because I enclosed a second gift for each of you that is not flat.

(3) Why did you get gifts? Because you have been so understanding, patient, and kind, and I appreciate our pen pal group so much.

You will love the secrets! They have held up over time!!!

Hope you enjoy!

Do you know about USPS Informed Delivery feature? It's a really good service that some of you may find useful.

It's offered by USPS and notifies you daily of packages and letters that will be (or should be!) in your mailbox or PO Box by the end of day.

I signed up and so far so good. Have only received letter notifications since signing up. It's not available in all postal codes, but it's still worth checking out if you haven't done so already.

!!!Zentangle Art!!!

Sign ups are CLOSED. Welcome to everyone who signed up!

For this kind of Zentangle Art, this will be the kind of Zentangle where you draw a representative image and then "Zentangle" it. See here for examples:
https://www.pinterest.com/dhrushitraval/zentangle-art/

THEME: flora and fauna - totally optional, draw something else if you like!

Color or black and white images are acceptable. Go crazy and have fun!

SIZE: the standard "official" Zentangle tile size of 3.5" x 3.5", OR twinchies 2" x 2", OR four twinchies that fit together to make one tile (4" x 4") - your choice!

1. Georgia Ma'am
2. Clay
3. CCB
4. Besame*
5. nycfem
6. Ts_kaijira
7. Tommi

Make one piece for each person who signed up (or four pieces if you want to make four twinchies that fit together as one tile for a project). So, we will each make 6 projects (7 if you want to keep one for yourself). They can all be the same or they can be different. When you send your pieces to me, please include $7 for shipping. Remember to put the name of the person it goes to on it, and also your name. If you don't put a name, I will distribute them randomly.

DEADLINE: The due date to have these to me (Georgia Ma'am) is Monday, September 14. The final-final deadline is Monday, September 21. Before the deadline, I will PM my mailing address to everyone.

Fine print:

RULES AS AGREED UPON TO BE ADDED AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT:
"For 2020, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2020. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2020. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2020 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/20. I can start participating in new projects on 8/21/20. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/20, able to participate 7/28/20)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/20, able to participate 8/21/20)'

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Uhm . . . you're right. And I did originally say that I would give a week for signups. I just miscalculated. If you want to sign up, Gemme, I would agree to it. And if this messes up anybody who has already ordered their supplies, let me know, and I'll make it right.

I truly appreciate your offer, Georgia, but a month is too tight of a turnaround for me with this type of project so even though I loved the idea, I won't sign up. Everyone should still be good to go. I just thought the sign up time frame was inappropriate. <--not the word I'm trying to think of but it's late and I'm tired and that's as close as it's going to get at this point

I'm prolly a little testy that no one gave me head's up about it too since I expressed a lot of interest in it but I'm irritated in general right now so I could be wrong about that.

Hello Penpal Friends - I suppose now is as good a time as any to tell those of you who don't already know, I have cancer. Yesterday I found out my surgery will be on September 24. This means that I will have to send out all the Zentangle packets on September 22-23. This also means that everyone must get their packets to me on the final-final due date of September 21, or it will end up sitting in my mailbox for who knows how long, and then who know what will happen to it after the election when Postmaster General Louis DeJoy gets his hands on it again. Your late projects could end up decorating some politician's office or in the hands of a disgruntled postal worker. Don't let this happen to you! Getting your projects to me in a timely way will be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Zentangle Art Project

I did it! I finally put pen to paper and started my first piece. I finally got my ideas together in my head, and did some doodles on scrap paper, and now I'm working on the real thing. I'm a little short on ideas for how to incorporate color into these, as I'm not used to using color with Zentangle - for some pieces I've got it all lined up, others not so much. But I really want to use color with these.

How is everyone else doing?

I finished them and really enjoyed making them. I had some anxious moments where I wasn't sure what direction I was going in but I just had faith in the process and followed my muse... not to be too New Age or anything. However, I keep forgetting to mail them... I incorporated some color and enjoyed doing so :).

I had to scrap a few of my first tries (sucks when you put a lot of work in) because my concept was a little complex for me lol. You know when you get something in your mind and then find it's kinda harder than it seemed lol. But ultimately I achieved it to a passable extent lol.

Dear Pen Pal Friends,

I have made a gross overestimation in my capabilities. I had no idea there would be so many doctor's appointment and procedures before my actual day of surgery.I am so very busy - and admittedly, also so very tired - that I have neglected to send you my address for you to forward your projects to.

Fortunately, nycfem has graciously agreed to take over wrangler duties for this project. I'm sure she will contact you soon with her mailing address. Please send you projects directly to her, and she will redistribute them.

I will also add my name at the bottom of the list and take myself off of projects for the next six months. I will miss you guys and our projects so much! But I'm sure I will drop in to say hello, as well as seeing you around BFP in other threads.

I'm sorry for this snafu, and I hope it doesn't inconvenience any of you. I also hope you are enjoying your art projects!

Good morning, crafty Peeps!

I have a (sort of) crafting dilemma that I hope everyone can contribute some ideas to. I have a medium-sized extended family, and we're not going to be able to get together in person for Christmas like we usually do. It's just too risky - I'm immunocompromised, there are little kids, elderly people. We're all agreed that it's just not going to happen this year, and a Zoom dinner isn't going to cut it. (My weirdo family doesn't talk during meals - it would just be streaming camera of all of us chewing our food.)

But what can we do, that would take into account that different people will want to do different things and have different capabilities? A couple of ideas I had:
- Some people could write newsy Christmas cards and mark on the outside "Do Not Open Til December 25"
- Some people could assemble boxes of gifts and mail them to the different households. Maybe we could Zoom the opening of presents.
- We could reserve December 25th for making phone calls to each other (and other friends and family, too).

These ideas seem really straightforward and not very festive though. I want to bring all age groups into it (we have ages 2 through 90). Keep in mind we would have to get started on this right away, since if the post office is involved, stuff should probably get there no later than November 30. I want something whimsical, that maybe only I could do - but how could I encourage other people to be whimsical in their own way? And - number one - how can I keep this and make it sound LOW EFFORT? My family doesn't get jollied into projects very easily. The trade off is that we will not be travelling three hours each way to see each other in person.

I would like to avoid the route of exchanging Christmas cards with just the name signed inside and a gift card included. You know what I mean.

So hopefully now your creative juices are flowing. Please post any ideas you have here for me. And if I can offer feedback on any ideas you have for your own family gatherings, I will be very happy to do so - just let me know.

Happy Merry Merry,
Georgia

Due to living internationally for many years (and having family spread across Canada) my family has one person ‘host’ a video. We frequently have 20+ groups (1 to 7 persons) that use a phone to make a video and send it to the host who then uploads it to an album on Facebook. We all receive the link late on December 24th. Throughout the next 48 hours we add photos, more videos, etc., and then start adding recipes as there are always food photos. It’s been a great way to stay in touch....it also has been a great way to remember those who are no longer with us and welcome new additions to the family.

of course after reading this my creative mind went into over drive.

I was thinking pick a theme. All ages can almost participate. Such as..memories of Christmas past. Each family member in a specific household is to come up with something. A quick paragraph, a picture, a drawing, etc. Then color copy enough copies for the other households. So say, 5 families, five copies. Put into a legal size Manila envelope or agree on a priority mail size.
Also include a receipe of the dish they love at Christmas. The younger kids can add drawings of Santa! Or a note they might send to Santa. So, basically a themed envelope that will be received before Christmas with instructions not to open until the 25th.

Also, maybe, schedule calls or zoom it, early in the day so everyone can talk about how they spent their Christmas eve.

I know these are trying times, especially during a family gathering holiday. With this envelope that arrives, at least everyone will have a tangible thing they can touch and look at all thru the day. Reading favorite recipes will make you think your having a meal. The older family members won't feel so far away.

Think I just might pull this idea together with my family💝🎄🎁🍪

I love your ideas as well as Besame's and sis' too. What if...keeping LOW EFFORT in mind...each part of the family sends a recipe for a part of the Christmas meal to another. Kind of like a long distance pot luck. Kids can have input into what to send and how to decorate or plate the dishes made and the more seasoned family members get a chance to taste a dish that Auntie So and So always made, etc. That will be something that could be received ahead of time to get the ingredients but shared on Christmas Day.

Maybe with the recipe given could be a specific memory that could be shared on Zoom or the phone Christmas Day.

I don't normally make suggestions in these threads but after reading them (curious) I am wondering with all these wonderful ideas why each member of peoples family and friends don't spend $30. on a camera and mike so you call chat live. Skype is free and it is great for keeping in touch and talking face to face. Just a thought. Amazon has tons.

Hi Pen Pal Types,

Just some snail mail news I thought you all might be interested in:

I heard a story on NPR's Marketplace and it made me think of this group. They were talking about greeting cards during the time of Covid. A greeting card company owner (sorry I don't remember which one, but it wasn't Hallmark) said that sales have increased exponentially for sympathy cards and "thinking of you" type cards.

The increase in sales of sympathy cards is a little macabre, although expected, I suppose. But "thinking of you" cards - maybe it's time to send out some (non-holiday) cards to the people on my holiday card list.

I have also noticed that the greeting card section of the grocery store seems to be crowded lately. I had thought it was just the luck of the draw - lots of people crowding the aisle when I happened to be there - but maybe there's something more to it than that. Everybody misses their friends, of course, but I wonder if hanging out in the card aisle is a way to prolong the trip to the grocery store? - and stay out in public a little longer. Just a thought (not that I recommend lurking in the card aisle during Covid).

I'm not really proposing a group project here, just passing along some news. Hope you all are well -

Georgia

Georgia

I read similar articles on Bloomberg and Fast Company.

I've always been a card sender, but since Covid I know I've sent even more!

At Halloween in fact I sent several cards and wrote inside " Yup, ghosts and gobbling's are scary, but not as scary as a pandemic"!

I re-connected with two friends from Milwaukee, during Covid, that I had lost track of, and have sent each numerous cards. One is a real movie buff and got most of her DVD's thru the library rental system, but once Covid hit, and that wasn't possible, I sent her several DVD's as well.

To be honest I can't say I've received more cards during Covid, but IMHO "tis better to give than receive" still holds true for me, even during a pandemic!

The Ultimate Loose and Unstructured Pen Pal Event:

Everyone who wants to will sign up below and PM their addresses to the wrangler, starting now. The wrangler will distribute the addresses when they are received. Participants are free to send letters, cards, art projects, to whomever they want, whenever they want. Participants can join at any time. Project lasts until everyone agrees it has run its course, or the wrangler is over it.

No deadlines, just group rule.

Georgia volunteers to wrangle unless someone else has a better idea and wants to do it.

Somebody brought up a good point today. Unlike most of our past projects, I will not be collecting and redistributing the projects. I am simply making a mailing list, much like we do for holiday cards, and distributing the addresses to everybody. Therefore, everyone who participates will have each others' addresses. Participants will mail their projects directly to the recipients.

Also, there's no need to send money to me since you will be handling your own postage.

Sorry for any confusion. Is this a problem for anyone?

I don't know about a December craft project. The holidays are a hectic time and usually the card exchange keeps me busy enough. The Halloween ATC project though sounds fun. Oh I was just asking myself what I might make out of things I have on hand or supplies that wouldn't be too spendy and in a flash it came to me! If we do a week for sign up, and around the same number of people who've participated in the past join in this round I could do it in a four or five week window of time, though five would be better. Anyone else interested?

ATC

Art trading cards.
Simply put..your art on a 3.5 x 2.5 card. It can be elaborate or very simple. All medias can be used. Paint, crayons, stamps, glue, stickers, words ...what ever is your art. Or what ever supplies you have. Collage, symmetry, abstract which ever way your creativity takes you. Google or check out Pinterest. You can even see tutorials on YouTube.

Come on people (yes you)..its fun! Step outside of that pandemic bubble!!

Systemwide changes at the U.S. Postal Service, including planned service slowdowns take effect in the beginning of October!

This slowdown will effect seventy percent of first-class mail sent to Nevada, 60 percent of the deliveries to Florida, 58 percent to Washington state, 57 percent to Montana, and 55 percent to Arizona and Oregon. In all, at least a third of such letters and parcels addressed to 27 states will arrive more slowly under the new standards.

Any sort of fall themed card. Though it would be nice it wouldn't have to be a holiday card. Just anything to do with fall, Autumn each person deciding for themselves what they'd like to send. If someone wants to make theirs or include anything go for it! Just nothing that would require more than a standard postage stamp or two to mail out and nothing that wouldn't mail out flat. Well those are my thoughts but I'd like to hear from others and in the end have group consensus rule the day.

For those that haven't participated in one of these kind of round robin-esque projects before, as the wrangler, everyone would need to get their names and mailing addresses to me by a specific date. Once all projects are in to me, I repackage them and re-mail so that everyone gets one from everyone else by a pre-determined date. This ensures that everyone gets a piece in a timely manner. Each participant would send me funds to cover the re-mail. In the past, it's typically been $5 for smaller projects. This covers not only the new postage but the repackaging materials (envelopes, tape, etc) the wrangler uses to get them back out.

I'm all about artistic freedom (and I'm not feeling the 'card' vibe at the moment) so I would suggest that as long as each person's contribution is no larger than 5x7 (can be smaller) and is flat with no embellishments that would hinder a flat mailer, all options are open.

Fall is my favorite season for certain so I love that but would like to suggest a general theme of "Changing Seasons". It's likely we won't do both a fall and winter project before the end of the year so those who love fall can lean into that and those who are excited about winter have options too. What say ye?

If everyone that wants to participate is open to these parameters, how about these dates?

Deadline for sign up: 10/24
Deadline to have projects in my greedy little hands: 11/12
Deadline for me to re-mail the projects out: 11/16

I want to give myself plenty of time to get everything organized and also to be able to dust everything with disinfectant spray before repackaging so for those who make their goodies, please seal it if the materials used are water-activated.

Plus, I think it would be really nice to get these back to you before Turkey Day.

Does this sound feasible? It is a shorter turn around than we typically do. If it's agreeable, I'll pop back in later tonight and put the official project parameter post up (and people will be able to sign up at that time). If there are any changes that need to be made, I can make adjustments or we can talk about it some more.

When signing up, PLEASE check to make sure you are quoting the most recent list before adding your name to ensure the list is accurate. I won't be chasing people. We're all grown ups, so if you want to participate, your name needs to be on the FINAL list. I will give a countdown before the final deadline and I 100% encourage you to reach out to any of our previous crafters who may not be aware that we're gearing up for a project now. The only caveat is if the list becomes too large, the funds may go up a smidge, but we would cross that bridge when we come to it.

I'm a little rusty, but I think I covered everything. Crafty veterans? Did I miss anything?

Since there's been no activity in here, I'll wait a day or two to see if there are any other suggestions, criticisms, comments, et cetera....but don't wait too long to sign up once the list goes up!

Sounds good to me. Oh I should mention, my cards are kind of creepy. So fair warning if you're not into that just let me know. I have lots of sun shiny happy stuff around here I could send too.

I love creepy AND sun shiny, so either or both is great for me.

I am definitely interested in participating, and I will sign up when you get ready, Gemme!

Changing Seasons Project

Those who love fall can lean into that and those who are excited about winter can go wild with all the crazy delights that winter brings.

Parameters:

must not be any larger than 5x7 but can be any size smaller
must be able to lay (lie?) flat (aka no embellishments that stick up off the piece)
can be anything (store purchased card, homemade ATC, an index card with charcoal sketches or crayon scribbles, et cetera) that is your interpretation of what the theme means to you
can be literal or abstract, light or dark, funny or serious
on the back of each piece, please have the project name, your screen name and if you want it to go to a particular person, that's person's screen name...pieces with no specific recipient listed will be assigned by the wrangler after a rousing game of Eeny, Meeny, Miney and Mo.

Once the list is finalized, you will send me one piece for every other person on the list. If we get 9 sign ups, you need to send me 8, unless you want one of yours back and then you will send 9 in this example.

Each participant will also include $5 for postage and repackaging materials.

Deadline for sign up: 10/24
Deadline for receipt of projects (NOT the deadline for mailing them out...I need to RECEIVE them by this date): 11/12
Deadline for me to re-mail the projects out: 11/16

Projects are officially late if they do not arrive via USPS, UPS or FedEx by 5pm EST on November 12th. It's a Saturday. Once the deadline for sign up ends, I will get the address to send the pieces to all of the participants. Please keep in mind that November 11th is election day and that may affect delivery services in some areas.

Some things to consider....not everyone loves glitter. If you have glitter on your piece, please make sure it's sealed so it doesn't get loose and attack. Also, if the pieces are created in a smoking environment, some of our crafters are sensitive to smoke. I will air out what I can, and all pieces will be dusted with Lysol but please be considerate and try to not send strongly scented pieces out.

Newbies, please read the next section carefully. We've done many, many projects over the years and for several years, we did back to back to back projects each year so we have a LOT of experience with our project rounds and all that can go wrong with them.

Due to inconsistencies with life, unexpected events and sometimes just the carelessness of some of the participants, we had to draft rules to ensure there would be consequences for those who seem to drop the ball with getting their projects completed and/or received in time, which can be hurtful for those who put effort into their work and got their things in on time. This isn't a work or school environment but a deadline is a deadline and a promise is still a promise and putting your name on the is a promise to all of the other participants that you will participate fully.

RULES AS AGREED UPON TO BE ADDED AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT:
"For 2022, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2022. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2023.

Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2022 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/22. I can start participating in new projects on 8/21/22. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/22, able to participate 7/28/22)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/22, able to participate 8/21/22)'

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2022. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2023.

I have a question to pose to the group. I’d like to use a shimmer/very fine glitter in my pieces. I ALWAYS seal my glitter but don’t want to force it on anyone who is 100% opposed to glitter. Please post on the thread if you do NOT want glitter in your project. If you don’t say nay you’ll be getting a beautifully shimmery project.

They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2022. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2023.

I love sparkly glittery things! Send the shimmer my way, please and thank you!!

I am ok with glitter :)

Thank you!!! I’m working on them over the weekend so I hope anyone opposed speaks up. But it will be inside gel medium so there’s no way that glitter is getting out!

I woke up early to work on my projects, I wanted to work on my projects, I sat down and started to work on my projects - and I didn't have the main thing I needed. I could have sworn I had this stuff in my art bag. Thank goodness Amazon delivers the next day; I will start working on them tomorrow.

I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock, omg no pun intended lmfao. My car broke down and is in the shop. They began working on it Monday morning. I’m hoping I can get it back in time to at the very least do an emergency overnight. I’ll keep you all apprised of what’s going on. The projects themselves are done.

Don't give up. Get your projects out tomorrow and send them as fast as your wallet allows because I know how adorbs they are going to be.

Isn’t there that one week grace period?

No grace period was set up in order to get the projects to everyone before Tofurkey Day and we all knew it was tight going in since the project idea came together basically at the last minute.

If no one cares about the timing in regards to receiving their complete packages, it seems cruel to throw 5 of the 9 participants on the naughty list if the projects don't show up tomorrow. I'll just throw a little something extra in the packages of those who got theirs to me early to even things out a bit.

Our candy_coated creator is close enough to me that if she mails her package tomorrow, I should have it by Tuesday, and everyone else's that might be late will probably be here by then as well.

What if I push the deadline back to Tuesday, November 15th? That will delay me getting things together and getting them back out to you all as well so then my deadline would be Saturday, November 19th to get them mailed back out. Some will reach you in time for the Day of Gluttony but not all.

Everyone okay with that?

Me too. I'm sure at one time we had a one week grace period. And these were exactly the kind of circumstances it was for: car trouble, hurricanes, postal service snafus, etc.

What would it take for us to consider reinstating it, both for this project and going forward?

I sent my package from the post office and it was supposed to get there tomorrow. However, I just now tried tracking it and this was the message the USPS website gave me:

"Information Available Soon

USPS doesn't yet have a status update on this item shipped from the Post Office. Information is usually updated within the hour of your visit. Please check back soon."

Now I am really worried. Hopefully it is just a delay, and it isn't lost.

I already let the folks know whose numbers I have but all of your packages are on their merry way to you now. Sadly, cricket was the first to send a package to me but will be the last to receive one back. Move closer? Most will be delivered before the holiday.

I wanted to say that this was super fun and, dare I say, very needed. It's been ages since we've done a project and I would love to do more if others are up for it too. Let's take back the craft and make 2023 a creative year!

There was a loose glitter project so I bagged those up when I sent them out. If you are glitter phobic, open carefully! It is absolutely stunning, though.

Oh, also....for the future wranglers, I would suggest an increase in minimum postage to $7 or $10. Most of the packages I sent were over $5 even though they were relatively light and flat and I didn't send them expeditiously. If anyone has issues receiving their goodies, I have tracking numbers.

I just know you all are going to go bananas over everyone's work. We're such a diverse group and our brains all clearly run on different tracks but, damn, I love the station they all wind up at.

Happy merry everything, crafty kin!

Gemme, thank you SO MUCH for running this. Would it help if I sent more $ to cover more of your shipping costs? I would love to do another one of these. It was the first time I'd played with my craft stuff in a long time, and I forgot not just how much I enjoy it, but how much I need to do stuff like this. It really feeds my heart and soul to be up to my elbows in paint and glue and pretty paper, making things. Having the excuse of sending it to this community, that has been a source of joy, support, community, and comfort for so long makes it even better. Count me in on the next one. I am considering wrangling next one......let me have some time for my head to heal up more, get my med regimen stable, and pontificate on themes. I kind of, sort of, perhaps, have an idea or 3!

NOTHING to start til POST Turkey Day & Santa Claus. (on my part).

Let me say, I was so going to add $7 as we know from multiple experiences, postage is always more, even when we do flats.

I PROPOSE, we do NOT do any projects with big embellishes for that reason It is just NOT feasible, I have/did stand in line, trying to pay extra, a LOT EXTRA, once before or twice.

Just my professional (right, ??!!) opine...what say ye, crafty peeps....:)

If somebody has a great idea for a project with big embellishes, and everyone agrees in advance to the cost of postage, I don't see a problem with it. I don't want to just automatically rule out anything that might be a great project, if everyone who signs up agrees to the costs. Hey, hey....we already have a wrangler candidate! I love our little group.

I agree that it would be good to do something after the holidays but if you are willing and able, please don't wait too long to offer an idea. We've got the bug again and I know my fingers aren't the only ones wanting to tinker in my crafty bits.

Agreed. We have never really done HUGE projects but sometimes they can get hefty with embellishments and general accoutrements and I also don't want to completely eliminate the possibility of them but it would definitely be a case by case kind of thing and anyone that does add a wee bit more than the project called for would be expected to include more postage. It's only fair.

It'll come in a standard 6x9 manila envelope that says HANDLE WITH CARE and has washi tape on it. Every package has a different design for the washi tape. No earrings but that would be an interesting project would it not?

I don't know if it was your project or not, CCB, but nycfem once shared with me that she uses clear nail polish with glitter in it and that seems to work alright. Also, have you or has anyone else here tried those "pens" that have glue and ink inside? I have not but I have wondered about them. How are they?

I have done glitter nail polish in my projects before and it is a great sealant! I used gel medium which I thought trapped everything.

It'll come in a standard 6x9 manila envelope that says HANDLE WITH CARE and has washi tape on it. Every package has a different design for the washi tape. No earrings but that would be an interesting project would it not?

I got another flat package today of the right size and shape - no washi tape but I had forgotten that part - and I got excited ALL OVER AGAIN, but to no avail, it was not our projects. DISAPPOINTED! But I did really like what I got - a pink, sparkly lapel pin that says "Queer Elder". (I have got to quit ordering tchotchkes.)

I’m so excited this group has a project! I had wanted to sign up for it, but I had eye surgery, followed by a two week bout of RSV. I hope to get involved in the next project.

I received my package today and was so happy to see all the goodies inside! I will cherish each one, and one reminds me of where I grew up :)

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this project I enjoyed making them as much as getting some back! :)

We should do this more often! :)

I agree. My package was almost $6 itself.

And our last several projects we said $7 would be the amount to send with projects.

I GOT MY PACKAGE, I GOT MY PACKAGE!!!

It's wonderful and definitely worth waiting for. It was interesting to see some common themes running throughout most, if not all, yet everyone approached the theme so differently. Everyone was so creative! And Gemme, you were so thoughtful - thank you for wrangling. I love them all, I really do. Thank you everyone.

I’d be in for both if we had them due by the end of January. December is just too crazy for me. And the matchboxes in particular take a long time. Though I love them!

I'll set up a sign up sheet and will post some links for those who are not familiar with these projects. These are tried and true projects. The Post Secrets project is very simple and easy but the matchbox project takes more time and thought. They are both super fun, though.

Very cool ideas. I have a couple questions...

Do we create a matchbox for each person and we'll mail the wrangler at least 8 boxes if 9 people sign up?

If so, are we cutting it close by having a 1-week deadline after the sign up (2 weeks with the grace period) or is this more than enough time?

Not sure if I'll sign up, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I already know some that I want to create if I am able to sign up.

Reason for mentioning timeline: We won't know the final number of people signing up until Jan. 14 and the deadline to get them to the wrangler is the 21st or 28th. This will be my first tiime working on matchboxes so maybe I'm over concerned.

I have recently experienced some serious health issues, one being: losing my vision in left eye. Other eye is blurred, double & triple. It is part of an auto immune disorder (very rare) that affects my arteries (inflaming them) and is on artery that supplies eye nerves....confirmed by a biopsy of the left temporal artery.

This TA is really rare, dependent on how long went undiagnosed & untreated (MY CASE was 16 days of severe, relentless HA's that caused this to exacerbate. NOW I just got with a specialist, getting pre auth for a new med to treat TA, will be IV.

Prognosis, losing vision, seizures,, strokes. I am worried about my vision. SO, 30 of 41 cases documented, 27% lived only 3.7 yrs post diagnosis. THIS! IS! SOME SERIOUS! SHIT!

I wanted to lose myself in simple, uncomplicated goodness of crafts, choosing post secrets & mini matchboxes, with November/Dec/January signups, projects, mailbacks. (My concentration is a challenge. (this is so serious my wife is resigning end of December to be with me, we are going to take our camper & travel as much as we can!

So, let me humbly say I am sorry I got in a "rush" & didn't think timelines through. I just seriously need this right now! Gemme is being a real sweetheart, posting for me. I am hoping this post is "clear".

I will be flexible with timelines as I want LOTS OF PEEPS to join these. These are 2 of our most popular & fun ones.

Gimme a minute...will be back.

This diagnosis was just dumped on me last Friday, and I dwelled on my course of action before I told my wife & kids. This happened yesterday after our beautiful day with them.

My emotions, feelings, sentiments, & thoughts are all over the place....merry go round...STOP...let me off.

Being clay, I will face this head on, make TA MY BITCH, & once again overcome the odds! though I AM scared shitless

Thanks for letting me try to make things clearer & reading all of this...much love everyone..I just wanna craft!!!

clay said that the deadline can be adjusted but if you are interested, I would start on the matchboxes ASAP. As a beginner, it would be advantageous to do a simple design.

Not sure if I'll sign up, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I already know some that I want to create if I am able to sign up.

BUT: Loosely...whole month of DECEMBER 2022 will be our Post Secret Project....THEME: Dark & darker....(have by to me byDecember 31st...mail out within a week.

February whole month will be geared to our MINI MATCHBOX Project, whose theme is: ENERGY...interpretative to individuals.

Mail back to me by February 28th, will go out within a week.

You can get started on any or both....gives 2 months plus, basically.

I'm open to a free-for-all or the energy theme creations.

Because the month of February is for the match box creations, I keep returning to "hearts," but I can make it work since it's interpretative to individuals. Those are the three magic words for me to make my ideas work for this project.

HAVE! FUN! DO NOT SWEAT SMALL STUFF!!!

I totally dropped the ball on posting in here! Sorry, end of year work stuff plus I had to rewrite the Constitution and explain to a monster corporation why I deserve a raise for 2023.

I kinda feel like I could write collegiate grants now.

:fastdraq:

Anyway, there's the fine print with the stuff about if someone bails, etc.
I can add that in when I have more focus.

So, can anyone tell me more about the the post secret one? I know what post secret is, but these won't actually be anonymous. How have people done this one in the past? Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.

These can be anonymous if you want, or not - you can choose to sign your screen name to them if you want to. But for them to be anonymous, all you have to do is not sign them. It helps that we have at least 9 people participating. Also, technically, the wrangler will know who wrote which secret(s).

As I recall, this is how it works. nycfem may remember more, as she was the first person who came up with the idea and she has wrangled it several times.

Like Georgia said, only the wrangler knows who sent the secrets in, if not signed...and repackages with 8 others to send back out.

It is discreet...I keeps things to myself....and we have had them be anonymous in past...

Use a postcard or card stock that is postcard size....embellish, decorate, write how you wish....your secrets are safe with me (besides I will forget most of them anyway) lol...

This is one of the more fun projects we all love!! The uniqueness of them will astound you!!

The only way an unsigned post secret card would be 'out'ed so to speak is if everyone else signed theirs and then, process of elimination kicks in. There are usually a few that don't, though.

These can be anonymous if you want, or not - you can choose to sign your screen name to them if you want to. But for them to be anonymous, all you have to do is not sign them. Hi All, for the folks doing the matchbox project, I just found a pack of 50 plain white boxes for 14.50 on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GXCV5V2?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
I know that is way more than I will need, but who knows what other project I may use them for down the road?

I’m starting to panic about the matchboxes. I feel like there are so many to do! Can someone talk me off the ledge?

I started to have that feeling too, the more people signed up, but then I just decided to simplify my idea a little bit. Besides, the more the merrier! We can do this CCB!

Yes to both but if we're being honest, this is your process. You always spin out beforehand and then turn out something super fantastic so I think you actually need a bit of panic to make it work somehow. Maybe it gets the creative juices flowing?

Having said that, you have exactly 60 days to get 9 completed boxes in clay's greedy little hands. Nine! That's more than enough time if you don't procrastinate. You've previously done more in a round and survived. And you did very well, if memory serves me.

Figure out what you are going to do and figure out how much time it will take to get there and then subtract mailing time from 60 days and that number will be divided by the amount of work you will need to accomplish. That way, you know EXACTLY how much time to put in each day to get it all done. Then you complete the amount of work you planned out each day. If you get on a roll and work longer, great, but you can't bail or cut the day short.

That will ensure not only you get everything done on time but I bet you wind up finishing early and can put your feet up while some of us do the panic dance at the last moment.

So, for me, I would give 5 days of travel so that leaves 55 days from today on, which would be 6 days of work on EACH box plus one day for any adhesive/sealant drying or extra touches to dry and getting everything together.

See? Easy peasy.

DONE.
