jens are already done and I got them yesterday. Hers are wonderful. Ihave not started, don't have a clue, will think about it. You always do a great job!

Thank you! :cheesy:

Jen's DONE already?!?

Sheesh.

That was quick. :bolt:

That didn't add to my inferiority complex at ALL.

jen's done , and cuz it's paper and doesn't have lots of wheels and and and , she is focused.

I started today...:woodchop:

Only 10% of our own paper, Tommi. I bet she did use a wheely or two.

Are YOU using the wheelies?

But, I think I might need more tinfoil!

Mine got crinkled. *pout*

I do like using the foil, though. I didn't think I would either. Now that I've started, I've got ideas ping ponging inside my head! :seeingstars:

I can honestly say I'll probably have several hours of painting into each piece. There will be multiple layers of paint and then there's the time to dry, which I can't (obviously) be doing anything to them. Huffing and puffing on them doesn't help much either. I know. I tried.

Then I have to figure out how to get the image in my head onto the paper. I tried scrunching up my face and closing my eyes tight and bobbing my head real hard, like a genie, but that didn't work.

I keep hearing Dory from Little Nemo in my head...."just keep swimming".... :fishswim:

This project is perplexing me. But in a good way. It's challenging me to use things beyond my usual stickers, picture cut-outs, and paper. But I still don't have any good ideas. It'll get there, though. I've got 9 more days and I do my best work under pressure. :D

In life, I rarely miss anything. Having said that, when something does go over my head it is amusing.
So time for a story.

I just got the mail. (simple right?) (it should be)
so there is a package
it is from Diva
I get excited
cause I am the wrangler
and I think
her stuff is here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so I carefully cut the end open
and pull out all the stuff
and I look at the first thing
and it is cool
and I open it
and it says
JAKE
I think WTF
then OMG
I got the wrong stuff
then Oh, this is for Jake (from Diva)
then the next one says Softness
and my poor brain is soooooooo confused
it finally dawns on me
this is the green themed stuff from Diva
who wrangled the last round
the fact that it was all green
and not black and the stuff I sent out
should have entered my mind about 5 minutes sooner
than it did
ye gods some days I worry about me
thank god I am off today!!!!

While I did put quite a bit of thought into who should get what, maybe I got it wrong and the Universe is using Ms. Diva to get them into the right hands! :)

I should have put a note with them, to let you know to look, but as usual I was in such a rush to get them in the mail by the deadline that I didn't have time. I didn't want you to unleash Gemme the enforcer on me for being late!

I can't wait to get home and see if mine are in the mail. I thought I would get mine first, since I live so close to you!

Agreed! I'm struggling because it's completely backwards and sideways from the way I tend to work and my ideas are not forming a cohesive union just yet, but I love the concept. Thankfully, I'll have a couple of days I can devote to this project since I'm in the weeds with it now.

I have found a gun that doesn't fit in my holster. The new blue hot glue gun I bought for this project is not my friend.Glue sticks just did not get it..

It jumped up when I wasn't looking, and melted the plastic zip lock baggie with the invisible minuscule beads., and stunk up the whole house.
I have somehow gotten melted glue on my shirt, pants and glass dining table. ami will get to see the two that were such a good idea, but would have taken me too long to finish. The idea was clever, but, alas..I turned to pastels to finish and put away that gun. Returning unused stuff and and that quarter ;)

Sooooooo, Tommi? I'm sensing, in the vaguest way possible, that you might...just might....want to wrangle the round after Ami's round is complete and being sent out?

:innocent:

I am no longer hankering to Wrangle the next round.

I pass on it this time. :byebye: Life is running amok right now.

I AM heading to the Post Office today with 9 original pieces on their way to Ami. :hangloose:

Tommi,

Thank you again for the PM's with the info, etc on where to send My bracelet donations. As I has mentioned.. I have decided to donate all 7 of the breast cancer awareness bracelets that I have made. I will also add in 2 other bracelets of a different style.

I will be getting everything out to you in Monday's mail.

Thanks again.
Jake

As a side note.. I will be interested in joining in on the next "project". I had thought about volunteering to be the next wrangler. However, if someone else is on board with that.. that is cool.

You should have it already from the last round I wrangled. I know it's hard to hold onto that stuff though, so I'll pm it again.

Duly noted. So, when this round is complete, we'll figure out who would like to head the next round. I'm always up for it but if someone who hasn't done one yet would like to do so, let us know. :)

Sounds like a plan, if everyone else is fine with it! Give this round time to finish completely and be thinking about what you'd like to have for the topic, what parameters you'd like, etc and let us know later on.

Later on , down the road, I am going to ask for some help with the Reunion Raffle for those that are good with decorating and glue, and things, etc.

Well I'll ask now. Looks like I will need over 50 little bags to hold raffle tickets for each of the donated gifts. (See link) . Was wondering if some of the crafty people on here would like to be creative and send decorated gift bags..On each bag, write or print a description, who donated it , the designated number on the list, and your name as the bag maker . Decorated with any kind of glitter, deco, etc you can come up with. I think the variety, and made from a thread on this site, would be fun

Not a project, per se, just a NEED. I f interested, please pick a number range and sign up.....
Otherwise I buy those brown lunch bags and use magic marker..:2butch:

Do you mean the little brown lunch bags from back in the day that you can still buy a pack of like, 100, at a time? If so, I have some of them too, but I'm not sure how many.

How many do you need altogether, Tommi? I know there's a lot of items. :)

ami, I gave my package to a friend and they went to the post office (since the closest one to me that's open on Saturday is waaaay across town) to mail it out today!

I stayed up til 6am finishing the buggers. A couple were still tacky (darn rubber cement!) when I put them in the baggies, so I hope they arrive in good condition.

I can get it out on Monday...geeezzzz...I work hard to get them all done and I ruin it by forgetting I dont have a car...

they turned out good...I like them!

Looking forward to more!

Oh...Gemme and Ami...thanks for the addys. I packed up my office partially and the address book went into an already sealed box....

Ditto. I'd be open to doing a round using this process again in the future. I'm not totally happy with a good portion of my work, as I couldn't seem to extrapolate the image from my head and plunk it down on the cards, and it was difficult as all get out, but I also enjoyed myself immensely.

Good Morning Everyone,

Here is My idea for a project. I the theme is Trees and Water. I would like every to take a 4X6 index card (colored)... and make that card into a scene that you remember from your childhood. The only rule is that you have to somehow incorporate a piece of a tree and some water into it. (I would like to see some browns and blues)... a piece of the tree..etc..You can also paint the index cards to match you theme using whatever you have handy...crayons, watercolors, oils, pastels, etc. I would like the tree and water parts to be three dimensional.

After you are done putting the card together. I would like a brief note to be written as to why this memory stands out in your childhood.

We will do 10 participants. Same rules will apply as to helping with postage as I send all of Mine out priority mail with iinsurance

Let your minds wander back to when you were young.. at a time when you had no cares in the and you were at one with the Earth..

Very interesting idea! Just to clarify, when you say you want part of a tree and water involved, do you mean part of a real tree/ real water?

Thanks Tommi. Dates of closure... I will give until the end of this week for signing up.. say Friday the 23rd. They should be postmarked to Me by the 7th of May. That gives two weeks to get them all together. Sound fair? If not, just let Me know.

Also each card does not have to be the same scene. If there is more than one childhood scene you would like to share, please feel free. I was trying to make this not complicated, yet interesting at the same time.

It could be put in a very small container.. kind of like the ones you used to put the green items in... all of those had a lid on them. then secure it to the card..If it is too much.. then those that can not do that.. can paint the water scene..

I have to admit, I have mixed feelings about this project. I think it's a lovely idea, but for me, I think that there are too many restrictions/rules for me to be completely comfortable with it.

The size is absolute (4x6), requesting a pre-colored index card (I always buy white and color/paint/paste/accent as necessary for example), wanting not only 3 dimensional work (which is really a cool idea, I say) but specifically saying you would like blues and browns (in my world, maybe my trees are yellow, etc...I'm taking some license here of course), that it must be a memory from your childhood and include water and include trees (believe it or not, I don't have a lot..if any of those..as I am not a good swimmer and tend to stay away from water except for bathing and drinking purposes), wanting a description of the memory (again, kind of a cool idea), and really preferring that real water and trees be used in some form (not everyone has/use containers to be able to do this....although I did see you said it could be painted...alas, not a forte of mine). Also, there seems to be a bit more work involved than our usual rounds, but the time frame is a bit shorter.

Please don't think that I am trying to be snarky or mean. I'm just explaining my reasons for hesitating in signing up for this round. I usually only sign up for the rounds that interest me and that I think I can do well with. This one, I am on the fence about, since I'm not comfortable with my ability to produce work that includes all the rules. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever participated in a round with Random and I know she's artistically brilliant, so I'm waivering back and forth.

Well, I have until the 23rd to figure it out, I guess. *rueful grin*

Well Gemme, I understand what you are saying. I never said anything was steadfast. I was just giving an idea and also trying to make it interesting and not overly complicated. I have to say I have seen some on the thread that are more complicated than this. However, it is up to each individual if they want to do it or not. I am glad that those that have signed up.. feel that it is worth trying out. Thanks everyone.

I also did not mean I wanted JUST blues and browns.. I was giving an example. Maybe .. something is getting lost
in the post between what I am saying and what you are reading.

Also the time can be changed as well. This is My first wrangle so I am open to suggestions. However, if there are those that just do not want to do it.. that is fine too. We all make our own choices. nods.

Gemme..

Expand what the words mean..

like for me... I'm going to use water to change the chemical make up of something.. so a container of pure water will not be sent, but the card will have water in it..

you use white? baby.. food coloring.. make your own paper out of your white..

Color outside the lines.... let your mind blow up..

grin...

I am going to revise this.. the best way I know how.. so that it is a bit more clear.

I would like this to be a scene from one's childhood memory(memories).

It can be an index card, cardboard, etc... up to 5x7. (this is for mailing purposes).

I would like to see a tree and water incorporated into the scene. I would like the tree portion to be an actual piece of a tree. As for the water, I do understand the difficulty of "sending" water through the mail.. so I modified that to say that the water scene can be painted, colored by crayon, colored pencil, marker, whatever one wishes.

I would like the tree and water to be three dimensional. So that the tree and water part come away from the index card, cardboard, etc.. and can be seen.

If one does not wish to give a description of the childhood memory, I am absolutely fine with that. I did not realize until after that some may not want to share that memory in word form.

As for the comment about the blue and brown.. I would like to see those two colors incorporated.. along with ANY other colors one chooses to bring forth the memory.

I hope this addresses everything.

Also, as to the time frame. I will extend the sign up date to April 26th. Once the sign up is complete, I will give three (3) weeks to have the projects complete. So that would be... postmarked to Me by May 17th.

As in the last round and others extensions have been given as to the time and that certainly can happen with this as well. I do realize we all have lives.

I hope I have addressed everything here and made things more clear.

Please expand your minds as to how to incorporate things .. I think this could be a really fun project showing all of us a glimpse into one's memory.

Would it be ok if the spirit of trees and water were implied?

I love the spirit of the project, but also like my interpretation of your idea..

Oh, what the hell ... I'm game!

Gemme, I'm also not used to working within such strict parameters, but, I like the "nature" theme. I'm just trying to think of a memory that includes both trees & water together. I have memories of each separately, but I'm not easily coming up with one of them together.

As for carefree childhood memories, I'm afraid I don't have too many of those, so I'm going to have to take some creative license. I hope that's ok, Jake?

I love the idea of including part of an actual tree in the project, but not of attaching a container of water, glad that you expanded it to allow for it to be drawn/painted/collaged.

This should be interesting!

Would we be allowed to use things like stickers and stamps and glitter and the usual suspects or is this to remain as 'natural' as possible?

it will be dead plant stuff but still

If I do this
I will have to make something up or do a grown thing
my only water and tree memory is a fragment
and it is so not a good thing

To My knowledge it is legal to send "legal" plants across states lines.. unless it is marijuana, mary jane, weed, etc.. or some plant that is poisonous. So I would anything outside that category would work. If you do not have a childhood memory that then that is fine.. make something up or a grown up memory.

actually there are laws that forbid transportation of some plants across state lines. But I think it has to be the seeds or roots of said plants. They dont want them to go into a non native environment and outgrow the vegetation that is native to it. It would ruin the ecosystem. But if the plant is dead, dried, and no seeds sent, you should be ok. Seeds would be ok IF you see them advertised for sale in your normal seed catalogs. Also, some seeds are used as narcotics. Like Datura moonflower plant seeds. Smoke them to hallucinate.

I got my package today and it was lovely. I know that some folks will do one design and replicate it and some will do a few of this and a few of that and there are others that make each one a completely different design. So, in the spirit of making sure everyone knows how much I appreciate the work they did, here is my breakdown:

Tommi~I LOVE the castle! I wanted to do a doorknob/handle with the wheely things but could not find a way to make it work like I wanted. Yours was brilliant, my friend! I think I enjoyed this piece more than any other I've received from you.

Diva~I love the quiet elegance of yours and I love that you choose that one for me. I love your calligraphy and I love your work, always. The tie was perfect too.

Rain~You have a most interesting eye and I enjoy seeing through it in the pieces I've seen of yours. This one is no exception. I loved the way you designed the stars very much.

Cara~With my projects, I left them open and unfolded because I couldn't decide how to close them. I thought about using a sticker (like you did) but thought it would take away from the piece as a whole (opening it would 'damage' it, etc) but I have to admit...it was just the opposite effect. I cut it so it wouldn't tear anything and it was like opening a present! You did such a lovely job.

Ami~Your work is impeccable, as always. I appreciated that you left yours open too. It was the only one I received that was open, and most of mine had been left open, so it helped me to feel a little bit less like I didn't do it right, yanno? I love that your work has meaning behind it and a message. Beautiful.

Softness~How clever, with the pink gauzy material! Not only did I get a present with the triptych card coming from the material, but there was a reveal inside too. Doubly enjoyable!

Jennifer~Knowing that your's were the first to get done makes me love mine a little more, I think. Not only is the piece elegant and so SMART looking (Look smart is something my Gran would say to me a lot), but it really shows a piece of who you are. Oh, and it is SEXY too with the eye and the woman on her back with her legs in the air, taking her pants off! :tease:

Pure~Your piece reminds me of el tigress, with the design and the purposeful 'random' swipes of glitter and dots. I love, love, love this piece!

Pixie~I haven't opened yours yet and I'm not going to. I mentioned having issues with determining how to close up the cards and I thought about using something similar to your metal button too but thought "how will they get into it?" and gave up. You, my dear, did use it and I didn't want to rip it, so I peeked into it from above and lo and behold, there is a glittery flower in there! I am taking your hidden flower and your choice of BLOOM to heart. I'm not 'there' yet and so, like the beautiful shiny, sparkly flower inside your piece, I shan't be opened just yet. *smile* Oh, and I LOVED the lime green puffy paint! It's my color, don'tcha know? :eyebat:

Now that you all know how much I love and appreciate your work, here's the sad little truth. I cried like a baby when I got the package and went through it because I saw all of these beautiful, smart, well-done pieces and I felt like crap. I know that my artistic endeavors are much less sophisticated and complex than...well, most of all of you. Most days I'm okay with being the less advanced one in the class, so to speak, but today...not so much. I have lovely visions in my head of designs and patterns but I cannot seem to translate it into actual work. Part of it is that I don't have the necessary tools and part of it is that I just don't have the talent and artistic vision to do it. I even seriously contemplated pulling out of Jake's project because I just don't feel I can do it justice.

Well, it's a few hours, pain killers, deep breaths, pep talks, and cinnamon mini rolls later and I still think I'm at the back of the pack, but when I think about it, it's one Helluva pack, so I guess I'm okay with that.

Anyway, I loved the work done and I appreciate the chance to experience all of your work.

Or would it be preferred that another wrangler be named and the project changed? Just let Me know. I will pick up where we left off.. if that is everyone's consensus.

If you have any questions - please let Me know. Thank you.

One of my passions are to camp.
But I am also into survival techniques.

I just wanted to share one most people enjoy watching me do.

Items needed:

Aluminum Foil
A box
A piece of glass that fits in the box and is the full width of the box
A mason jar big enough to cook in. " a large empty bottle "Such as what a jumbo size bottle of pickles came in" will work well.
And whatever ingredients you need to make your meal.
"Such as stew, soup, etc.

Cover the entire inside of the box with aluminum.
Place all your food ingredients into jar
Place jar in the bottom of the box, centered in the middle
At an angle, place glass into box
Turn box so the open top and glass face the sun
"Make dure to start this process early in the day...So by evening..all food will be cooked"
Make sure items you have to cut up are not super thick or big!

As you hike or fish or whatever...your food will cook and be ready to eat when your evening mealtime comes.

Hope you enjoy!

huh? I am interested! What happened???

Nothing "happened". I think Gemme was right .. I might have given too much time for people to sign up. .. so My apologies .. it is My first time doing this. However, that is no excuse I have been involved in others.

So at this time we have:

1. purepisces
2. Random
3. Tommi
4. Gemme
5. softness
6. Jake

I think there has been plenty of time for people to sign up. So the signing up is closed.

Everyone can go with the list above as to who a project needs to be made for.

Also, we have determined..

a. That we do not have to disclose a childhood memory.

b. The water can and should be painted. (no need to try to figure out how to transport it.. not sure what I was thinking.. I think it was the 3-D thing)

c. As Random had asked.. it can be interpretation... as to the memory.. and whether or not it included a tree and water.

d. As Gemme asked. it most certainly can contain all the usual suspects.. glitter, etc.

My only asking was that it included a water and tree scene... and that I wanted those to be in 3-D.

Let Me know if I missed anything and if there are anymore questions or ponderings.

Thank you.
Jake

folks...I had a trip to the ER on Monday...my back went out and 3 of my discs herniated. After numerous shots of morphine, dualdid (sp?) and something else I cant remember, they sent me home with enough oxy to kill a horse. Five days later, the pain is back, and I have phlybitus in my left forearm. So, Off to the ER I went again today. This week is shot for me. And probably so for the weekend.

I dont want to drop out of this project tho. If I cant get my act together and send out the project to the wrangler, can I send it late with enough money to cover seperate postage costs? I really have a very cute idea but even if I could find my stuff, my phlybitus will ruin what I want to do.

is this ok? Or do you have other suggestions...

softness, sorry to hear you are below the weather and don't want to drop out.

Here is my 2 cents worth. In my opinion, illness and emergencies are exceptions to the rule. I'm not leaving for the Space Shuttle, or any other long distance trip, and making one for you is my intention, so, I am sending it to Jake.

I have no problem if you send mine later ( versus, the Wrangler having to back track at a later date, find all our addresses and send individual packages).

If I was Wranglin' , I would accept one from everyone, and have you mail to each that sent one to you (by providing you the list when I sent the collection of creations to you).

But, the precedent has been :
(a). up to the Projectl Wrangler
(b). up to a vote: the group conscience
(c). send Chocolate Tootsie Pop with Tommi's

I'm more worried about that horse killin oxy meds they gave you. :nurseshot:
Whatever the Wrangler's decision, I know you will find sushine days ahead.

Get Well Soon.

softness.. you take whatever time you need. If you are not feeling well, obviously something like this does not compare to your health and making sure you are ok.

If you end up putting it together.. send it to Me.. and I do NOT want extra money for postage costs. I will get them to everyone late or not. You have enough worries right now without worrying of putting extra postage together on top of making the projects.

happy mothers day everyone! I thank you for your responses and Jake, thanks for allowing me to send it to you.

I am happy to announce I truly feel I am on the road to mending my back! When I went in the first time they plastered me with drugs but thru an IV. It took care of the immediate pain but didnt work long term because I had to go back in 5 days later. That time, they shot me directly in my back (which is what they normally do) and I knew it was going to work. I got up and vaccumed the downstairs and cleaned up my mess that had been accumulating around me on the couch. Tonight I will sleep upstairs for the first time since this happened...over a week ago! I am not going to do anymore, even tho my back feels fine. I have learned that I dont feel the consequences for my behaviors until a day or two after the fact. And since I want to see my daughter walk down to get her BA diploma, I am not going to push it!

However, if I can sit upstairs and open a few boxes at a time until I can find my craft materials, I will do so. I am so glad you all are so understanding!

AND I got my package from last time yesterday, even tho I didnt find it until today! (I forgot to check mail!) oh how lovely they all are! I love love love...how individually our creative juices flowed into really unique projects! Thanks again for picking this theme and providing the materials!!

who is going to wrangle next time?? I dont dare take on the task until I am more settled into my home and my back is more stable.

I do have a question about a craft...embossing stamps. And has anyone made their own stamps?

It's not a bad idea. Life flows up and down and sometimes our groups are small and sometimes they are large. Don't take the participation of us personally. Life just sometimes gets in the way.

Me? I'm in Irvine.:carride:

Well, I'm glad it's a small group this time, because I am just working on mine today! I can't believe the deadline is tomorrow. I always wait until the last minute, but I think I really pushed it too far this time. But, I have every intention of being done by the end of the day tomorrow. So, they might be going out in the mail on the 18th.

Jake - I don't think this round was any more drawn out than they normally are. It was an interesting idea, although, I don't know that I'm going to be able to work in the 3D element. I guess I'll know soon enough.

Ohhh, Gemme ... I'm excited to see what you have in mind for the next round!

I have found some of my craft items so I am going to try to work on this today...I will let you know if I can succeed in getting them done to get out.

do we ever do a specific craft? Like, I am sorely out of bookmarks and thought that would be a great project for the group! I cant wrangle yet...too busy and disorganized and new...but soon...

I LOVE the idea of doing bookmarks! I am normally reading at least three books at once ... and no matter how many bookmarks I buy (and I do buy them often) it seems that more often than not, I resort to using Post It notes & bits of paper. This would be a great project.

I have your ady from a postcard list. mmm...who else is doing this? I need to make 4, right?

Lunch bag or smaller...Small,just hold loose tickets.

Decoration up to creativity. Just needs to include Raffle gift, name of person donating it, number on the list, and bag designer name.

The people who signed up (see list above) are going to do their own thing..

Little gift bags with handles (like the kind you stuff with tissue and a present), little lunch bags, any way or color you like. Variety is the spice of life.. Someone will pull a winning ticket from each bag on Sat. night.

Picture this at the Reunion.. Long draped tables with the donations on display, and adjacent to each one is the "Ticket Holder" =bag. People will put 1/2 the ticket and keep the other with the number.

The Bag, has the identification of who donated the item, and what it is, plus the # from the list. Whatever you like: write with a marker, sticky letters, type the info and glue it on..glitter, stickers, or ...whatever the imagaination comes up with.

Slacker.

*grin*

I actually am amused that, for once, I am not the one rushing around at the deadline to get things done and out. It feels weird, to be honest.

I did not get mine into the mail today, though they are finished, dry and ready to be packed up. My errands ran long and I ran into to some issues with packaging them.

*sigh*

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and send them out individually because in my test run (My housemate used to work for the PO and suggested when sending things out to make a "test run". I package everything up and toss it around a little bit and then bring it to the dogs. If after my manhandling and the dogs sniffing and pushing and pouncing on it, it survives, great. If not, I need to rethink my packaging.), my samples did *not* survive. If they don't survive me and the dogs, then they definitely won't survive two separate mailings.

So, if everyone....Jake, pure, Tommi, softness...is okay with it, I think I'll just pack each one individually in one of those "if it fits, it ships" boxes and send them out with an abundance of bubble wrap. It will be more expensive, but I don't see another way to package them so that they will make it in one piece.

I think if it were awkward or delicate it could work, but each piece is not only delicate but a bit awkward and weirdly shaped. Double whammy.

I definitely want to participate in the project with the new due date, although I expect such participation in other projects will be limited. If anyone wants to exchange letters, please PM me as I have a hankering for trying to revive the art of letter writing (of the ink on paper sort).

Welcome to the new world where the air is fresh and clean Cathy

I received a strange item in the mail yesterday. It was actually handwritten correspondence: and envelope with my daughter's handwriting , a letter and school photographs of my grandest kids. Smiling Trinity Hope who is 4 and pensive Dustin Bradley who is 6. She wrote of missing me, and California and the life she had being raised by two "sorta" women. She spoke of her first adventures in the snow when she was 4, when we bought a place in the mountains and we made a snowman together, and the trip on the chartered bus with 30 5th graders to Sacramento because I had to be a chaperon, and me in a wetsuti chaperoning at Catalina in 7th grade. She said she smiles everytime she sees big clouds, because it reminds her of when the Ex and I used to tell her we saw things in the big fluffy white mashed potato's, and we painted together.

She is a good girl, albeit all grown up, and married a guy she met on the internet and I told ya so,...and I was thrilled to get a letter. Will i write back without spell check..probably ~~ maybe, just because :callme:

{{{{{Tommi}}}}} What a gift! My best childhood friend and I corresponded in letters whenever we weren't in the same place, like during the summers and then some when we went to college. We both loved the film "The Scarlet Pimpernel" starring Leslie Howard, Raymond Massey and Merle Oberon. So we had a habit of signing our letters as Chauvelin (her) and Sir Percy (me), with such silliness as "Your humble servant" and the like. She was a gifted artist who could draw the most incredible detailed tiny things, and to this day I have some of her letters tucked away, and they really are treasures, especially as we lost contact in our early 20s.

Anyway, even without the references to that novel and film, the pleasures in a letter written in pen and ink, without spell check:giggle:, are many. Hopefully in another week or so I shall buy some pretty stationery and begin to revive that in my life!

well, I like to make pressed flower cards. I get mine from my own gardens, but also from wildflowers growing in my area. I thought it would be a nice idea if, during the summer, we pressed flowers and shared them with everyone in the fall time. We could make cards, and send extra pressed flowers along with the cards, so each person would be able to make more cards on their own too! I press mine simply in a telephone books. Leaves are also nice to press, since some of them give great texture and form. I would love to see flowers I dont have in my zone...and to get some that I could use in future products would be awesome! I had been tinkering with making holiday cards for family and friends with pressed flowers, including a frame that they could then frame the card to display all year round, as a present...

so...what do you all think?

My yard is in full bloom,, and I never ever thought of drying out the leaves.

Question...Do the flowers/leaves get stuck to the page?

Do you need to put anything between flowers/leaves and the newsprint of the phone book.

You do need to lay porous paper over and under flowers when you press them in a press, but in a phone book, the paper and ink is perfect for it.

There are some flowers and colors that dont dry well. Purple iris, depending on what color purple, might dry out brown. But be creative..that brown could be transformed into a fairy girl's hair! And the thicker the petal, or leaf the longer it takes to dry.

if you want to dry whole flowers, or bulky leaves or thick petals, there is a different way to dry them. Go to the drive thru alcohol and pop place. Or Wal Mart even has these. Ask them for the cardboard bottoms that have sides that are only about 4 inches high. Cut out the bottom, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of cardboard left. take some netting (from fabric store, fishnet?) and staple it to the bottom. Do several and as you put things in to dry, you can place one on top of the other, criss cross for best air circulation. the very bottom box has to be lifted up off the ground somehow (I just put an empty flat under it) so it too can get air circulation. Dry them in an undisturbed area. Dont over crowd them or you will get mold. Also, try not to put different types of flowers,or even diff colors of the same flower in the box or presses together unless they wont touch at all ever.

I just learned about paper embroidery
I posted 2 pictures in the gallery of 4 of the cards I made.
You get patterns then punch holes in the paper
then you use thread, floss to do the patterns
you can add stickers and do cut outs etc

I decided to go ahead and post a sign up for the next group snail mail project today instead of tomorrow because work is going to be busy on Monday!

Please, as a reminder, sign up again if you were signed up for this project on the hyphen site, because I have moved the project here instead. No limit to how many sign up but I will post when the sign up has closed, so that we can know how many projects to make and get started.

This project is being wrangled by me, meaning, everything gets mailed to me and I make up the packages and send them out. Anyone reading this post right now is welcome to participate, newbies and oldies. Any questions, just ask.

The theme of this pen pal project is addictions, such as alcohol, drugs, smoking, sex, food, love, video games, coffee, drama, shopping, gambling, television, working, Internet, or addiction in general without a specific focus. It can be about your addictions past or present or an addiction of someone from your life or even a famous person or a book you liked about addiction, whatever you are comfortable with. A serious interpretation of this theme or a light-hearted approach are both welcome.

You will make one project for each person who signs up. You can make all projects the same or each one different. You can specify who on the list you want to receive each of your projects or let me decide.

As far as what each of your projects are, that's up to you but just nothing too big or heavy or bulky, since I will be mailing them out. You can make a postcard or an art project or write about it or use a photo or music, whatever you like. You can spend a short amount of time on it and keep it simple or put a lot of time into it, all up to you.

Please include five dollars for mailing costs. I will mail them out at the end of June, so please send me your projects by then, a little earlier if you can manage it. Make one less than the number of people who sign up since I won't be mailing you one that was made by you.

Sign up List:
1. nycfembbw/ Jennifer
2.
3.
4.
5.
etc.
