It was really nice getting too surprise GeorgiaMa’am with a set of projects she did not expect (the vision boards). How would folks feel about the wrangler gwtting to choose someone every project and secretly filling in the members of the project that we will be sending them a package too? It could be for someone who’s on a break or for Angie as the site leader, whomever the wrangler chooses, as long as they have been a part of the penpal community in some form, whether it’s doing projects or being on this thread. it just feels like such a special thing to do! I’m not just asking members of this project, but everyone in the penpal community, meaning people who read or participate, or who are on a break, etc.

Hello beloved crafters! Nanners sent me a sweet text to tell me about this current project, and sadly I need to sit this one out. Max had scheduled/expected surgery this past Monday. Five days before that, I had unplanned surgery for something else. Thankfully, we have a lot of wonderful friends and family locally taking care of us. Pretty much as soon as I'm recovered, I'm going to a work conference out of town at the beginning of March. That all feels like a bit too much to juggle and still get my projects done on time. I don't want to risk being late, or not getting it done, so I'm sitting this one out. I really want to join in on the next one, though. Meanwhile, I hope you have fun with the stamps, and I look forward to joining you again this spring.

Jen...I have done this for some people, just surprise them on my own! They all LOVED being thought of.

I have also been included in getting surprised when I couldn't join in, and from some other folks on the Planet! I LOVE it so much when someone cherishes me enough to do that! Some was a drawing, once I got extra, as in a roll of washi tape, or a note card that warmed my soul, esp when someone took the time to do so! I have been sent Christmas presents in past. When I was diagnosed with colon/uterine cancer back in Dec 2011, one of our own crafters sent me a goody box for when I got home...books, a sweet card. I was so touched by that gesture!

So, this is a great idea.

"The rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until four months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting four months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2023. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2023. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2023 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/23. I can start participating in new projects on 6/21/23. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/23, able to participate 5/28/23)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/23, able to participate 6/21/23)

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

CURRENT ON HOLD MEMBERS:

Zero, zilch, nada, everyone can participate!!!!

Soft Silver,

I thought everyone had gotten their vision boards…I threw away the tracking numbers. I feel bad about this and I’m so sorry. I do hope you get it soon.

Truth: one time when we did paint chip projects, the wrangler sent me mine back, but I never got them. I figured they had just gotten lost in the mail. But I received them one year later, no kidding!

Also, I have learned my lesson to be really sure about everyone having theirs before I throw away the tracking numbers. I’m so sorry.

OK, I’ve never done these before. I’m sure I’m not the only one lol. I came up with a really nice theme and I really like how the stamps have turned out and I’m almost done but I need to figure out how to do the postmark. or at least how to add the denomination. Any attempt of me writing it looks like a scribble.
And, to make things worse, is that I’ve done a set of three stamps for everybody and they’re all different sizes.

POSSIBLE SCAM ALERT:

I had the weirdest thing happen. I got a text, supposedly from USPS. It said, "Due to an address issue, your package has been redirected to our operations center. Please follow the link provided below to confirm your address, and we will accordingly reschedule the shipment. https://gd.uspsmn"

I have text notification for my mail through USPS, so I didn't think this was really unusual. When I clicked the link, it took me to a website usps-center.world/ac and it gave a tracking number (but not a tracking number I had purchased) and a note that said "We have issues with your shipping address". It looked legit, with USPS fonts, and was well designed. It then asked me to verify my address (which I thought was weird, because wouldn't it want to verify the shipping address? and not my address?). I did not verify the tracking number at this time, I just assumed it was my Priority Mail package to Nan. I put in my address and clicked "Continue" and it took me to a page wanting 0.74 for redelivery on a credit card.

At this point, I got suspicious, and started to investigate. I noticed the odd URL that I listed above, and also that the tracking number was not mine. I went to the USPS website and tracked the tracking number from my USPS receipt there, and it said the package had already been delivered yesterday at 10:21 am.

I am sure this must be some kind of scam. I hope none of you have encountered it, but if you do, track your package on the USPS website to see what is really going on.

A RELATED SCAM ALERT:

When I Googled the USPS web site, I clicked the "Track your Package Now" link. It took me to a website called "www.packagemonitor.com" that looked less legit than the above link, but I thought maybe the P.O. was updating their website. It wanted me to download some software to track my package, and again, I was suspicious.

Finally, I noticed the weird URL, and I typed in the USPS web site myself without Googling it (usps.com). Then I was able to track the package as normal and found out it had been delivered.

SCAM ARTISTS are getting scammier/scummier! Ahhhhh! Beware!

I think we're seeing more deterioration of mail service in the US. I mailed a check on March 7, which was due on March 18, from Atlanta to Indianapolis. It didn't get there until March 21, and it was due on the 18th. By the time it arrived, I had already FedExed a replacement check overnight, and had also paid a $35 fee to my bank to put a stop payment on the original check.

Project Idea: How would people feel about making bracelets for a project? They could be any kind of bracelet, from beads on a string, to charms, to woven friendship bracelets, or crocheted bracelets, to leather ties, to macramé, or anything really. See Pinterest for different ideas.

I’ll think about it. I’ve got a lot on my plate right now but it really sounds fun.

I finished my stamps on Saturday!

We’re supposed to have bad weather here in the next day or two, and since the mail is already slower than molasses in January, is it ok with everyone if I wait a few more days (like till the end of the week) to send the stamps project out?

. . . since the mail is already slower than molasses in January . . .

I heard a local news story on my NPR station about how everyone in certain hubs of the USPS is experiencing very slow mail service. It's really messing with some people's prescriptions, checks, etc. They were talking about weeks of delays being common. Apparently, the USPS is trying to "modernize" their systems, and that's the cause.

*Make at least one bracelet for each person on the list. Bracelets can be made with beads, charms, hemp, embroidery floss, leather, jute or whatever you want! See Pinterest for ideas. The designs and materials are totally up to you!

*You can make bracelets to size (see each person's sign up) or you can make them adjustable.

*Send $7 to wrangler with your project.

*Please put each person's bracelet/s in a baggie, or envelope, or include a tag on them. On each baggie (Sharpies are great for this!) or envelope or tag write your name, the name of the person it's for, and the date.

Sign ups will be open 3/29/2024.

Due date is 4/30/2024, and final date for me to receive is by 05/07/2024 or you will go on the hold list for 4 months.

I will mail out by 5/14/2024.

Remember to send me your addresses and ask for mine if you do not already have it.

Remember to include your wrist size! This is the size you want your bracelets, not the actual size of your wrist. For example, my wrist is exactly 8" around, but I put 8 1/2" below because I like my bracelets a little loose. (TIP: if you can't find a tape measure, remember a regular sheet of paper is 8 1/2 x 11. Wrap the short end around your wrist and make your best guess.)

For example, my wrist is exactly 8" around, but I put 8 1/2" below because I like my bracelets a little loose. (TIP: if you can't find a tape measure, remember a regular sheet of paper is 8 1/2 x 11. Wrap the short end around your wrist and make your best guess.)

1. GeorgiaMa'am - wrist size 8 1/2"

They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project.

Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/24. I can start participating in new projects on 6/21/24. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/24, able to participate 5/28/24)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/24, able to participate 6/21/24)

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

This is perfect timing. I'm going on vacation and I have been collecting a Bohemian look to wear. I was going to make a few bracelets and now I'll wear the ones you all will make! If I could make a request..please make mine in pastel colors.

How serendipitous, Bèsame*! I suggest that you, and anyone else who has special requests about colors or what-have-you, put it on the sign up sheet.

To the crafters who made me a package of stamps, I want to say thank you to all your collective efforts!

Unfortunately, I didn't receive mine! These projects mean the world to me, and I am sad I haven't any to look at.

I went to post office with tracking number, to see if it had been returned. ALL he could tell me is that, according to their records, my package did come, but not to me. My address....first 2 numbers were correct.....the 2nd 2 numbers were "OFF" by 2 or 3 numbers...BUT he can not tell me anything about the package. He has to talk to wrangler, gave me a number for her to call & he can tell her. I have asked all neighbors on both sides of me...no one received it. I have given wrangler the local PO number for her to call. Friday, she wasn't able to reach him...:(. So Monday, hopefully she can get to talk with postmaster.

I was really seriously thinking of quitting the bracelet project. So, good thing planet was down...:).

I am not upset with wrangler, just that I haven't gotten a package. In my case, it isn't USPS that made an error. My package was incorrectly addressed. I know things happen in life, and know to "expect" miss events.

Going forward: it would be helpful to each of us, to take a photo of the projects being mailed back out, cross reference that with a masterlist of addresses it is going to.....I am going to do this!

The wrangler is the ONLY one that can get the info to find out what address item sent back to, or, if package was returned. That in itself is a huge P.I.A....:(

Thanks for reading my post. I know the world is screwed up, and I never want someone to miss one of my packages.....<wink wink>...I put my heart & soul into mine, as does all of us.

On the bright side, just maybe, maybe, that package will come unexpectedly, in the future.
I love everyone of you so much!

Clay, I hope that they turn up, if you remember at the last project, mine didn’t come for three weeks after everybody else’s did!
I do know that mistakes happen. It never even crossed my mind not to come back and do another project because a simple error had transpired. I believe Nan was the wrangler for your project that’s missing and it happens especially since she’s had so much going on, and actually decided not to participate in the next project because she’s feeling very overwhelmed.
I think it’s going to be an ongoing problem with the post office being not up to par. Fingers crossed. I’m hoping you get yours soon… SS

I just spoke with Nan. She went to her PO, & they told her the exact address she sent it to, also the person who got it "rejected" it....so they are returning it back to her, and she will send it back to me!! YAY!!
It is a "neighbor" 2 doors down who got the package, doesn't know me, so at least he sent it back!!
NOW, I am HAPPY dappy!! As is Nan.
FYI, my post was to offer ways to help get right address on, and hoping it helped others.

Well I have all my bracelet supplies, and now I'm having a hard time getting started. Honestly, I have never made these kind of bracelets before, and after reading the instructions in a couple of books, it seems like it might be harder than I originally thought. I think once I get going it won't be so hard, it's just getting started that's holding me back. Maybe I need to find a YouTube video.

How's everyone else doing?

I've started by putting beads for a bracelet in a little zip lock baggie. I put them on top of the container of the rest of the beads.

My Mom opens the door, I was out replanting some flowers. She says, there is an accident. I had to go in and play bead pick up!

You all better fess up if you drop your beads! Lol

Due date is 5/6/2024. That's only 9 days away!

Final date for me to receive is by 5/13/2024.

Keep in mind, the postal service is not reliable these days. I strongly recommend you send your projects by a method that gives you a tracking number.

I can't wait to see everyone's projects! I hope you all are having fun!

Hi Georgia Ma'am......hopefully you now have everyone's packages, or will by 500pm today!

I am excited to get them back!!!!

GeorgiaMa'am
05-13-2024, 05:23 PM
Unfortunately, due to the lame postal service, I'm waiting on two packages that are in transit. I have seen the tracking receipts and they are on the way. They were scheduled to arrive by or before today. I can only blame USPS. I'm inclined to give it a few days.

GeorgiaMa'am
05-14-2024, 04:19 PM
Because of the trouble using the postal "service", I have decided to use FedEx to send out the projects. To my surprise, FedEx has a OneRate rate that is cheaper than or approximately the same (depending on distance) as the post office!

You do NOT have to sign to receive a FedEx package.

Is there anyone who for some reason can't receive FedEx? FedEx will not deliver to a P.O. Box.

GeorgiaMa'am
05-16-2024, 03:37 PM
ALL packages have been RECEIVED

AND

ALL return packages have been sent out!

Everyone (except the person with a P.O. Box) should receive their packages by FedEx on Monday. The P.O. Box person should receive their package by USPS on Saturday (we hope).

I'll PM you your tracking numbers.

Thanks everybody for participating in this project. It was fun! And everyone did beautiful work. I wore one of the bracelets to run errands this morning. Thank you so much everyone!

I was thinking of wrangling the next project if we don’t already have some thing. My thought is to resurrect something from many years ago that we did on this thread that actually amiyesiam wrangled. This would involve me sending each person a package with the same supplies. The idea would be for each person to make whatever they want using at least some of the supplies, but only whatever they wanted to use from them (The rest each person can just keep). Each person can also use any of their own supplies to add to the project as well. The cost of doing the project would be $10 which includes the mailing. Would anyone be interested in that?

Someone can include a little more if they want, but I don’t mind compensating just because I really remember this project and thought it would be really fun to do again. So basically it’s like $10 minimum and if you wanna include a little more you can, but you certainly don’t have to. I definitely don’t want it to be cost prohibitive for people to join.

Cost: $10
Sign up will close on: May 31.
Then I will mail the supplies out to the participants.
Projects are due to me on: June 30.

I will mail each person the exact same supplies. Each person can use one or more or all of the supplies that I send and feel free to keep the rest. You can also incorporate any of your own supplies or not. You can make anything you want as long as it is reasonably flat and light and easy to mail. Anything with glitter must be sealed. For your projects please write on the back who each project is for if you do indeed care to specify. Definitely put “From:” your own name so that each recipient will know who each project is from. if you don’t want to write on your actual project, you can put it in a small plastic baggie or something like that and put the information with a sticker on that (or whatever works for you). You will mail your projects to me at the address I have had for the past 15 years. If the apartment is 2C, then you have the correct address for me. Please make sure that signatures are not required. then I will mail the projects out to you all after the week grace period.

Hello, everyone, The last package was received yesterday, despite the member having paid for guaranteed confirmation that it would arrive the day before. Might I add that that has happened to me twice this year! Paying for a specific expedited delivery date and time doesn’t seem to mean as much to the USPS anymore!:vigil: And boy is it stressful for the person who has mailed the item! Anyway, all is well that ends well and the packages have been mailed out today with tracking. Everyone did an absolutely fantastic job. I hope you have as much fun as I did looking at everyone’s work! It was just what I had hoped for where everyone takes the materials and sometimes their own and each came up with something so creatively different! Members put in a lot of effort with beautiful results! Please post when you receive your projects! (f)

nyc--same, girl. Same! :hk2:

nan-what a lovely quote and it's just really, really pretty.
soft*silver--yours made me laugh out loud. I'm sorry that you had to go through that frustration, but it sounds like you've turned it around and now it's a funny story to tell in the future. I know you're not feeling well now, so I hope you're right as rain soon.
Georgia--squee! I love butterflies. *happy dance*
Besame'--my almost twin Gemini sister, it seems like we had similar :loveletter: ideas and doing a project within a project, didn't we? As always, I'm blown away by your work and how talented you are. If I had half your crafty skills, I would be making big bucks on Etsy. Huuuuuge! :knitgirl:

For those who have not gotten your packages yet, make sure to read the information on the inside of my envelope and that will tell you all you need to know about the mini project inside. Don't say you weren't warned!

ATC is an artist trading card. Standard 2.5 x 3.5 inches but variations include 1 x 1 (inchie), 2x2 (twinchies) or circular (rinchie).

I'm proposing a theme of..Summer Vacation

I'll work on the verbiage of the project, with dates and such, in a few days. It's been a while since I wrote one up. Lol

I need this distraction and a crafty project!! Thank you!

I'm remembering my Mom watched me stitch up the hearts in the jar of hearts. She was part of many projects. I even worked on some while on vacation at her dining room table when I visited her in Arkansas. I'm sure she contributed supplies at one time or another. Oh the memories...

I'm excited to get the last project we did tomorrow!

Does anyone have a burning desire to wrangle the next project or two?
If not Clay and I have 2 projects in mind.

Project 1:

September/October

Cheer Up card

Clay would like to give us the opportunity to cheer up a fellow BFP member who is dealing with cancer. Hys idea is to make a greeting card and send it to the wrangler who would send it onto the BFP member. At least that's what I think hy said...Clay, will you please clarify and let us know how we'll know who the person is we're making the card for?

Project 2:

November/December

Holiday Recipes

This one I'd wrangle. We would make one or more holiday recipe cards 4 X 6 or 4 X 6 folded with our favorite winter holiday recipe(s).
I am a COOKIE MONSTER! :chef2:

Is anyone interested in one or both projects? Or does anyone else have another idea?

Bèsame*
09-15-2024, 01:13 PM
--Great Idea for holiday recipes. Maybe we can start that earlier so that we can have them back in our hands, the first part of December? I might want to try all of them during the month. A bigger card than 4x6? How about a 5x7 so we can decorate the card. I know Clay will appreciate a bigger size. Maybe , with 3 holes on the left side and use binder clips to make a 2024 booklet??when we receive them all??

When I spoke with Clay, I thought it was a one on one opportunity to reach out. I definitely want to send a card(s) often. I know the joy of receiving some cheer in the old fashioned mail!

nanners
09-15-2024, 02:07 PM
I stand corrected. Yes, we can do individual cards for the BFP member. I'll let Clay take care of that one.

Thanks for the input Besame!

So for the Holiday recipe cards, yes 5 X 7 is better! And yes, leave room on the top for 3 binder ring punches for me to assemble them and resend them out. If the holes are on the top it could even be a folded 5 X 7 card (making it 10 X 7).
Shall we just start that one next and make the final due date December 1 so then we have the rest of the month to busy ourselves with other holiday activities?

NEW PROJECT!

Holiday Recipes

Create a 5 X 7 Recipe card with your favorite holiday recipe.

Leave a half inch border on the TOP of your 5 X 7 card so I can make them into a booklet. (landscape orientation).

You can do more than one if you wish.
Must be flat, nothing more than a puffy sticker thick.
As always, glitter must be contained.
Send $10 with your project.

Fun for all: Guess my favorite holiday cookie or my favorite holiday candy and you will get something special back with your completed project. Post your answer on this thread before 11/15/2024. If there is more than one person with the correct answer, I will do a drawing to see who gets that something special.

Sign up starts now and ends on 09/26/2024.

Due date is November 16th with a grace period which will end November 23rd. I will have them back in the mail by November 26th so hopefully everyone will have them the first week of December.

Just want to let you all know, Bulldog (Bully) passed away yesterday at her home with her family by her side.

I have walked this entire journey with her, and she kept that smile & sense of humor. I last spoke to her last week, then kept in touch with her mom, by phone.

For those who sent her cards, she was so happy to get them. Her mom told me that she had lined up the cards & would smile, read them over & over. My wife & I were sending 2 a week to her, texting often & I last spoke to Jules last week, then the mom since then. I am sending a sympathy card to her now.

May Bully RIP...fly high, luv! You are free now. I love you, Jules!

I know we haven't done the holiday card exchange for a few years, but I am one of the few remaining dinosaurs on this earth who still sends them out. If anyone would like to receive a card from me this year, PM me your name and address and I'll be happy to send you one.

I have an idea for the next project!

Let’s see if there’s any interest.

It would be to make a greeting card. Your choice of occasion or even just a “hello” or “miss you” or “I care” type of card.
You can use cardstock for the base, and use stickers, drawings, embellishments, die cuts, rubber stamps, ribbons, anything that isn’t thicker than a puffy sticker. You’d make one for each participant and maybe an extra one for a surprise recipient.

You can like this post if you’re interested in doing this project.

Mine are in the mail! I sent you a PM but your inbox was full so I don't know if you saw it. Mine turned out a little more puffy than planned. I had them under a heavy book for a week to try to tame them. But I put a little extra $ in the package in case it causes a mailing issue. Please tell me if you need any more. I don't think they are much more than a puffy sticker but it's been a long time since I've mailed a puffy sticker...
