I've never joined in for a art project YET but may I ask what repercussions occur if someone misses deadlines?
That person will not be allowed to participate in any other projects through the rest of the year.
I have a question please....
the 7 day bufferzone....past May 9th....is Sunday....since mail doesn't run on Sunday.....that would make it be Saturday, the 14th, correct? After that date, the projects are considered to arrive past the buffer zone???
Thanks for clarification.
Three folks have yet to send me any notifications of whether theirs has shipped or not or when to expect their packages...so far I have two in hand besides mine....

Personally, I'd err on the side of Monday the 16th versus Saturday the 14th.
If you get any projects beyond the 16th, I would definitely consider them late.

The last day of the one week lateness window is this Monday.
I don't like to use that lateness window but did this time (caught up in starting a new job). I mailed mine today priority and it should arrive on Friday, Saturday latest.
Really excited to see everyone's projects :).

Yes, the deadline is Monday, May 9th. If you add "7" to the deadline that gives you the last day of the one week window of lateness before the projects go out (Monday, May 16th).
We have the one week window in the rule that gets posted with every project. The reason for it (stemming from how it was decided) is that being a little late on a project is reasonable but once you go beyond being one week late, that becomes just too long. It also takes the burden off the wrangler to feel beholden to someone who is more than a week late. If you're beyond one week late, that's too late! More than one week late = Feel free to participate in discussions in the thread but as far as participating in projects, see ya in 2017 :hamactor:
Dead line to receive projects was May 9th.
Many reminders went out. I thought the discussion was had earlier to extend the orginal date? Did I miss something??

*Bump*
REMINDER:
"For 2016, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2017. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules."

Genesis and Tallulah, you are both new but you were advised to read the rules of participation before signing up.
Your projects should be on their way to clay now. If clay does not receive them on or before Monday, May 16th, you will be prohibited from participating in any future projects through the end of the year.
There's still time to get them out. Just make absolute sure that they arrive on the 16th. The 17th and later is officially late.
I was really looking forward to seeing what you came up with so I'm hoping that clay receives them, and in time, so you can participate more this year.
Breathless's package is enroute!
Gemme & nycfem's are enroute & should arrive in next day or so....
Sadly, Tallulah has dropped out & understands she can not sign up for any new projects until January 2017! Sorry for any inconvenience to anyone.....should you wish your project for Talullah be returned, let me know ASAP privately & I will include those in your return goodie packages.
I have left messages for Genesis but yet to hear back. Hopefully her package is en route as well....
Thanks for everyone's patience, understanding, & participation......fondly, clay!!!

Okay, So here is my idea for my first wrangle.. Besame has volunteered to be my mailing person as to save the majority of participants $$ for shipping and avoid the international rates.
CD/ DVD Recycle Project.
Materials used is up to the artist but must contain some portion of a cd or dvd in part or whole. Some possible ideas could be from decorating one, smashing and making in to a mosaic, melting, cutting, carving the options are endless, and the choice is that of the artist! Also because they are extremely light, it should keep shipping costs low.
Here are some ideas from pinterest:

The theme is essentially to recycle, how ever that is covered in creating art out of the cd.

I think the idea is really creative. Would you just want one disc decorated from each person to each person or a set or collection?

I think the idea is really creative. Would you just want one disc decorated from each person to each person or a set or collection?
I think it is best to leave it up to each participant to do what they would like using the some portion or the cd as a whole as they wish. If we were to say that each participant was to use one full cd for each person on the list, we are essentially assigning them to a certain way to do it, just decoration and that is exactly what I dont want to do, I am quite interested to see all the different ways that each of us might take this.
***Side note, doing it this way also allows each person to control how much they spend on this project, and I don't want it to be about money.
When you look through the ideas, and ideas you find of your own.. that one that jumps out to you that is really neat?!? Do that one! :)

Okay so based on all the messages in private user CP, looks like this is a go..
Project: Recycle CD/DVD Project
1. Open signups 22/05/2016 -- full 10 days to sign up
2. Close signups 01/06/2016 -- by 8 pm MST
3. Project deadline for mailing out to Besame will be July 6, 2016. This will allow for a full 10 days of sign up, and 5 weeks of project time, as well as clearance of the holidays in both countries to get in to the mail. If more time is required, let me know and we can amend this.
4. The medium being used must contain either a cd or dvd as a whole, or a fragment of some sort with in the project, other materials used are at the artists chosing. I am totally open and leave each with free reign for their choice & creativity in fact I encourage it. The cd or dvd can be decorated, smashed to bits and used in a mosaic, or as part of a picture, or melted into something else? The options are limitless.
5. Each participant is to make at least one piece for each person on the final sign up list.. ie.. 6 people sign up, make 5 pieces.. one for each excluding self.
6. The theme of the project piece is at the choosing of the artist, as the recycling is expressed in turning the CD into something else.
7. I'm thinking that because this project is relatively inexpensive to make, I dont want to limit the number of participants. Average is usually 7 or 8 on previous projects up to 10, which is completely reasonable.
All typical rules are in play:
Please add $5 for repackaging and postage.Besame will send her address in time for shipping once signups are complete.

Clay, thank you for an awesome job wrangling. I am in awe of what came in the mail and will be writing some personalized thank you's this weekend. Right now I am still so dead tired to the world from my new job. Oh, and the best was Clay writing on the outside of the package: "Please do not bend, fold, spindle, or mutilate!" I particularly loved the use of "spindle." Clay, you are the Boss. Thanks, everyone. I received some spectacular pieces, truly.

I say DO IT!
Here are some inspiration tid bits:
Break up a cd/dvd (smashing it could be fun by itself) and use the bits as mini mosaics (because who doesn't love mini art?)
Use full dvd/cds, paint them with a thick coat of white or black paint or gesso and scribble to your heart's content
I intend on checking out Saver's to see if I can score some uber cheap discs, if cost is a concern
Orrrrrrr if you have access to something that can shave the discs, you can shape them into vague images and then paint it on the disc (flowers, faces, animals, etc)
If you get your hands on discs that don't have any labels or anything, you can just color or paint straight on it and have a cool, shiny background for the negative
I think you'll do great!!!

I guess I'm knd of looking to be encouraged that i can do it. I'm open to ideas.
CCB....you can used "old CD's"...I "recycled" 20 from my huge collection I didn't care to keep any longer, and I had some "blank" ones as well. You can get some used ones at a pawn shop, etc. Or ask friends if they have any to give you......
As far as "expenses", this is the least expensive project I have participated in. For once, I happened to have all the things I will need for my ideas! Hence, the name "recycle".
I am sure you will do something awesome. You can do it girl!!!!

Thanks. Gemme. Thanks for for the ideas. I think I might have some percolatig. Or of my concerns is that cds are a little cost prohibitive for me so I want a solid idea before I commit. I wont be able to do much experimenting.
Don't forget that you don't have to use one whole disc for each project. You can do all the projects with pieces from just one or two discs if you want.

Goodwill and other secondhand shops, yard sales and Ebay are other possible places to find low cost cds.

This has nothing to do with our project but I'm really excited with the haul that I got today and you all are the most likely to understand how happy I am right now. I hit up Lowe's, ACMoore, Michael's and Barnes & Noble. I also went to a sports store for compression wraps but that has nothing to do with crafting.
I got cement board tape. I went to Lowe's for drywall joint tape but they didn't have any small rolls of it and I wasn't sure how much I would actually wind up using so I liked the size of the roll and the pattern of the cement board tape plus I got 50 ft of that for less than $4.
A.C.Moore was super fun, as usual. I had a coupon plus today there was a coupon for additional points to go on my card. I got clearance poster art in various sizes, from full 24x36 poster size to 36x12 pictures. One I think I'm going to frame and some of the others I am going to cut and frame like a triptych but maybe 4-6 pieces total. The rest will be cut up as collage pieces. Each of these were only $1. One dollar each!!! I also got two stained glass art coloring books (one mermaids and one for butterflies), one bottle of gold flecked acrylic ink, some stencils and stencil brushes, a sanding pad, several mini punches, a tiny ream of lace and a container of pearl beading.
Michael's was the surprise for me today. I usually find good stuff there but I honestly didn't have anything in mind but still found $40 worth. I got some mini hemp reams, packets of small crocheted flowers, a ribbon pack, 2 clear stamps, 6 water brushes, a tube of coloring paper washi, a piece of wall art and a roll of jute.
I got a book from B & N, which I will read and then use the pages as background pieces.
I'm getting ready to start my 100 days of art.
For those that don't know what I'm talking about, click here (http://the100dayproject.com/).
I'm looking forward to it and think that I'll have a lot of fun doing it.

1. Open signups 22/05/2016 -- full 10 days to sign up
2. Close signups 01/06/2016 -- by 8 pm MST NOW CLOSED-- Thank you to everyone who has signed up! Woot Woot.. so excited!
3. Project deadline for mailing out to Besame will be July 6, 2016. This will allow for a full 10 days of sign up, and 5 weeks of project time, as well as clearance of the holidays in both countries to get in to the mail. Should be received by July 13 2016. I have given a little extra allowance for shipping as I know Deb/sis project has been shipped and can take 8 weeks from China, so she had hers completed and in the mail before the official announcement.
If you need some ideas for inspiration see previous posts with links included, or help with some different techniques that are working or not, just ask :) Some of the suggestions can be time consuming, others in an afternoon or a few hours.. IF anyone needs help.. just ask.. id rather help that anyone shy away feeling overwhelmed.
5. Each participant is to make at least one piece for each person on the final sign up list.. 9 people have signed up, please make 8 pieces.. one for each excluding self, unless of course you would like to keep one for your own collection.
If you wish to make more than one piece per person, you are welcome to, however it is not expected. Some like to add little personal touches, and although TOTALLY appreciated and enjoyed, it is not expected.

All typical rules are in play:
Please add $5 for repackaging and postage. Besamé will send her address in time for shipping once signups are complete.

Okay, I've had some delays, but it finally came to me what I'm going to do with recycled DVDs! It came to me all at once last night when I was trying to fall asleep. It's a medium I've worked with before, so no learning curve there. And it will be lots of fun to do! And I think everyone will like them - I hope. Sounds like the same problem I had. So with the exception of burnt to a crisp .. And maybe even then, I say smash it. Do you have resin or clay? Some sort of binding? Smash the glass like pieces and reform maybe ? Or even affix the pieces to something, even firm paper or bottle caps? If you need more ideas let me know ;-) this is not meant to be a costly project so please don't feel you need to purchase anything extra to do this. The smallest fragment of the cd in each project is the only requirement.

If burning them is off the table now, consider painting them. Or shaping the shards into something close to what you had in mind. It's tedious but can be done with fire, something to reshape them, tweezers and a lot of time on your hands.

I apologize for lateness in asking, but the total project just came together in this form in last couple of days. I did something totally different than original thoughts.
Mine are not going to fit "flat" and rather than have ship outs cost more than the $5 allotted fees, I rather just do them to each of you myself.
I will not be around a computer again until Monday afternoon late....will be out of town & without WiFi (chosen to be that way) til then.
Thanks for any considerations....I heart you all...I am so excited for this project!!!

I am totally open and leave each with free reign for their choice & creativity in fact I encourage it. The cd or dvd can be decorated, smashed to bits and used in a mosaic, or as part of a picture, or melted into something else? The options are limitless.

Please add $5 for repackaging and postage. Besamé will send her address in time for shipping once signups are complete.

Time's flying by!!! My offerings will happily be in Besame's greedy crafty little hands by the 13th even though I was apparently trying to reinvent the wheel or something but am now on a happier, albeit simpler, course.
Of course, if anyone knows of a punch that will push through one of these discs, and maintain the integrity of the piece of disc, I will be happy to go back to my original vision which was awesome but also awesomely difficult because I can't shape this stuff for anything.

No I don't mind at all. I still need the address of where to mail projects to, I haven't seen it in my inbox yet?
Well, I know my project was received by Breathless ...... she had to do a bit of a mending but for the most part they arrived okay.
On a personal note, I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Only three more sleeps for me before I head to Canada. I'm looking forward to the continuing my life journey as I start a new chapter.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend if you live in Canada or the US. Its a regular weekend here in China although I hosted a BYOY (Build Your Own BreakfastBurrito) for the dozen other Canadians I work with on Friday, July 1st, Canada Day. Tomorrow I'm saying to goodbye from my job in the library and acknowledging the 4th of July with cupcakes similar to this:

i just want to say.. I'm pretty impressed with us! Everyone of you deserve a pat on the back! Great job everyone! This project was out of the norm, out of comfort zones for some, lots of trial and error, and some crazy failure, my self included .. P.s don't bake on cheap dollar wax paper cause you will be left scrubbing each piece to clear from bits of paper that resemble a bad attack of toilet paper cling ons-- what a head ache ;-) --- and the projects we deliver will be art, filled with our own creativity. I truly believe that sometimes the best works are the ones you never thought you could make. High 5 y'all .. And a happy 4th!!
Thanks for everyone who is doing this project! Mine turned out great, I think!!!!
I am sure each piece will be a genuine work of art....and made from the heart...that is what I enjoy...feeling everyone's energies & seeing where they were on any give project piece!
Mine will be finished tomorrow & go out Wednesday for sure...to each person!!!
Thank you Breathless for this awesome idea & thanks to Besame' for wrangling mailing of said projects!!!
Happy 4th to all of you.....

I mailed mine out yesterday but it was after 2 o'clock so they said three days. But for other people the mail might just be moving slow because of catching up they have to do, due to the long holiday. Also our post office is in the middle of some sort of customer survey right now and though I don't know about elsewhere around here things always seem to take a lot longer, rather than get where they're headed quicker, when they are conducting one - who knows why. Well maybe because it's counterintuitive and this is the post office so there you have it.
I mailed each of yours individually, this afternoon.......in the US...you should receive them by Saturday. Please let me know ASAP when you get them....or don't so I can track it down...lol.

What's the due date for the I project again? I'm confused. It's supposed to go in the mail on the 6th and the absolute latecomers deadline it needs to be in Bseame*'s hands by the 13 th? I ask because I'm struggling to finish and will not get them in the mail on the 6th.

PS I'm really struggling with deadlines obviously and am questioning whether or not I should even be joining projects anymore.
Nope. This is not acceptable. I think the final, hard deadline is the 13th to Besame in Texas, so unless you're sending it next day or second day, then the regular mail should go out on Saturday, the 9th.
You're not alone. I have had some excellent ideas but trouble with the execution so I'm doing some 11th hour changes too as well as logistics. Glue doesn't like to glue in 100 degree temps. Now that I have a band aid to the a/c problem in my home, I can try again.
Remember, each piece only needs to have at least one piece of the cd/dvd on it and it can be big or small. You can do pieces covered with broken pieces or have one whole chunk of the disc. The only hard rule is that it must have some form of a disc on it, as the theme is recycling and that's understood by the repurposing of the discs. You can even take a disc or a disc fragment and paint a picture on it. That would count too as you are using the disc for your base.
I wanted to try something along the lines of stained glass but I'm not heating up the apartment with the stove so that was, and still is, out of the question but if you have the materials, it's not too bad of a project if you keep it small.
If you look for recycled disc projects, most of them use the whole disc or do mosaics but those aren't too bad either.
Don't forget; others have posted that they had some misfires too. I think that this is an awesome project but it does have some trickery to it, depending on what you are trying.
You can do this, J!

Let me apologize in advance if it looks like I'm hijacking the thread. This the most appropriate and active discussion I can stick this in. Also, BFP does not let you start threads until you have at least 30 posts under your belt.
This is a painting I did after an intro to acrylics class. I'm a doodler mostly; drawing on scrap paper during breaks. More dilettante-hobbyist than serious artist. This was my first real attempt at a "proper" piece of art.
https://c5.staticflickr.com/1/283/18382195916_f5f5bf4d75.jpg
I haven't done much painting since then. Lately I've been getting that creative itch but I'm not doing much to scratch it. Perhaps I need a little inspiration from the BFP community?
It would be wonderful if the forum had a sticky thread dedicated to users posting their creations. Whether it be a scribble on a post-it note or some epic brush stroke-for-brush stroke reproduction of a work by one of the old masters... or even an adorable bento box lunch. I would certainly be much better to post them in the forum than in the limited space of the BFP gallery.
I would love to see your art!

There is also a section in the picture gallery to post pictures of everyone's final product. Tommi started it I think after I bugged everyone to post pictures.
It really only happened once or twice but I would still love to see the final products.
I am not arty or crafty so I don't participate but it would be nice to see the artwork anyway.
Viewing art is another way to participate (hint, hint).

ATC's: Artist Trading Cards...these are usually a 2.5"x3.5" cards...and there are a whole host of sizes now (inchies, rinches, etc) that can be done. If you google them, you can see so many variations.
Post Secrets are secrets one writes on a postcard to a receiver. The secrets can be written anonymously OR one can sign them.

I am thinking about wrangling a postsecret with the theme butch-femme. For those who do not know, postsecret involves making a postcard or decorating / altering an already made postcard to tell a secret. Examples are available on http://www.postsecret.com . Anyway, the theme would be any secret related to being butch or femme or in our community, whatever. It could be however you interpret the theme but some ideas would be ways you feel like you don't fit into the labels or what it means to you to be butch / femme or how you knew you were butch / femme or a butch-femme sex secret, whatevs. Postsecrets don't always need to be secrets, per se, but can also be ideas you are keeping in your head. The only rule is that they would be postcards (one or more -your choice- for each person who signs up, with no limit on how many sign up). This is a project where you can really artsify it up or keep it simple depending on your own wishes. You can also attach your name to your projects or keep it anonymous. They'd be due to me by the end of August. Please put a like / thanks on this post if you'd be interested in participating and if I get enough "thanks" I'll start a sign up.

Okay, so Sis sent hers to Breathless and Breathless received it. Then Breathless sent hers and Sis's to Besame and Besame never received it. Deadline for end of project receiving to Besame, July 13. Today: July 24. Have projects been mailed out? If not, what's the update?

Tick tock....been waiting for my Internet connection to come back...
No one has received the CD projects. I've been waiting on the arrival of the Canada package. I have had no contact or tracking info as of yet. I will mail what I do have out on Tuesday. It will be two weeks past due. Don't be mad with me, I'm just the local inside girl.
I hope this is the right thing.

I did indeed. Your secret was so secretive and yet cheeky. I have to say I absolutely loved it! People are doing an awesome job with the butch/femme/trans theme!

This is excellent news! Whenever we're ready for a new round, I have a couple of ideas if no one else wants to jump at wrangling.

I'd be interested in hearing your ideas, Gemme. No interest in wrangling.

Thanks, you two.
The season's are changing and it would make sense to do a fall or autumn themed project but on the other hand, we've done that a few times already. So I was thinking about some of the projects we've had this past year and many of them were open-ended in either theme or materials, which allowed for a wider variety of interpretations. If it's acceptable to everyone, I'd like to do another one of those that just gives basic guidelines and lets you have a little more autonomy.
Some examples could be using weaving in the project and keeping the theme open, incorporating flowers (drawing, painting, papercrafting them, 3D) somehow, using paper bags as a main material component, doing an image transfer, or using metal (Jo-Ann's sells packages of sheet metal that is thin enough to go through embossing machines or you could incorporate found metal bits or you could beat out pieces into a shape and adhere it to the base.....good stress workout!).
Normal house rules would apply, of course, and the mailing would be taken into consideration for the size determination based on which of these seems more interesting to you all.
By focusing more on the materials, that keeps the theme open so if you did want to do a fall/autumn themed project, you could and if you didn't, you wouldn't be required to do so.
Feedback?

I like Gemme's idea but I know I'm much too busy this month to participate. Carry on artists!

Gemme, I like that idea. Just to clarify, it doesn't need to be one of the three materials you listed right? Like I could pick a different type of material and focus on that, correct?

I will admit the theme of weaving is not my favorite and I would sit this one out. Which is no reason not to carry on without me. :)
Gemme...when you used the term "weaving" in the description, did you use it to mean "incorporating" the medium into project or did you mean to actually "weave". That has me a bit cornfused...lol
I appreciate any clarification...thanks my friend!!!!:hangloose:

Do we need a loom for this project, Gemme?
This project sounds cool. I will keep my eyes and ears open for when sign ups occur.

I actually threw out 5 different ideas. It would be pretty complicated to have all that in one project, wouldn't it? lol
My thoughts were that I'd give you all a list of what I was thinking of and whichever one seemed to be the most popular, we'd go with that one for the time being.
Does that make more sense?
For example, one project would be a metal project. If you do jewelry, you could incorporate the wires used in that to qualify for the metal component or you could use bits of brickabrack you found during a walk or you could use metal sheets for a background.
A different project would be the weaving project and I literally mean that something would need to be weaved, like this (https://www.google.com/search?q=paper+crafting+weaving&biw=1280&bih=592&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiRzNLdgoHPAhUSBh4KHU5QB0wQsAQIGw).
Yet another project would be the paper bag project in which you would use a paper bag in the project, either as a base or as a component of the project.
Then there's the flower project. This is super simple but we could take it abstract or 3D. This project is limitless in options.
Finally, the image transfer project, which is exactly what it sounds like. You would transfer an image and incorporate it into your project.
Do we need a loom for this project, Gemme?
Only if you have one already!
Actually, now that I think about it.....there's another option that y'all might enjoy. If most of you were okay with a handful of parameters, then maybe a coordinated project might work.
What do you all think about one of those? I start with an idea and leave 2 or 3 other parameters blank and you all put your input in and we vote on the favorites. We could wind up with a crazy fantastic project that way!
For example, if I said the project had to contain metal and then allowed for 3 other parameters, we would choose the top 3 favorite ideas which could be anything from collage to a specific color to another material requirement.
What do you think about that? I've got project ideas for days, so I'm good with any of the ideas I've bounced around. I do like the idea that the participants would have input before the final parameters were determined. That makes me a happy girl because I think everyone would enjoy themselves more if a part of them and their choice were included.

I like the idea of weaving. The other ideas aren't striking me with any immediate inspiration, but some may develop as I ruminate on them for awhile.

I'm with you. The weaving looked pretty cool and not as intimidating as I thought.

A weaving project seems to be the popular choice. I'll see what the rest of the usual suspects say and we'll get the ball rolling soon if everyone's up for it, since nyc mailed our packages already.

Love the postscecrets. I get to explore my mind. :fireman::pirate-steer::rrose::phonegab::police::moonstars:
Since I have both colored papers & such AND I have jewelry making wire, etc...my choice is to use the weaving method and follow some other ideas/parameters we all decide upon.
Either way...wicked cool ideas ohhhh Gemme one!!!
