words project is done except for photos for my files so they should be shipped tuesday

Sweet! Can't wait to see!
Surprise, surprise.....I'm changing my Words project.

Why break tradition, I say!

I will, however, finish the project I originally started as it's super cool and fun and may very well fit into another project's specifications one day....or not....I may just keep it for myself.

Sooooo.....I will have my project out to you, Pixie, on the 28th. I wish I could send mine earlier, but this whole 'haven't started it yet' thing is a bit of an obstacle.

You know hunnie.....we could always meet up or something....when your done...just sayin :D

I am having a bit of a time actually starting it! But am not giving up though!

Elle*

I thought I had a clear cut plan on how I wanted to do them and then I started them and they lead me down a different path...Take your time and have fun!

Well, our projects will be mailed tomorrow to you Pixie....

I'll look out for them!!! STOKED!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!

I have been looking for it for the past couple of days as I didn't know the exact send out date and I was beginning to get nervous. Glad to know I was just prematurely nervous. :)

Happens all the time. It gives me a chance to use up my odds 'n ends stationary to send the $ to the wrangler. :cheesy:

Spring came out so fabulous! If this package doesn't get one excited about spring, I don't know what would!! Thank you, Mr. Wrangler, and everyone who so creatively participated! It's amazing how well it all fit together, like everyone did something different- I loved it!

One question:
-Who made the ultra cool "spring forward" clock/"face" one? I didn't see a screen name on it.

I did. That was my first effort.

I put all of mine in baggies with both the first and second efforts in them and each recipient's name on the front along with mine. Maybe your baggie got opened somehow? You should have received the hummingbird too.

Dear Crafters...I am not going to be able to finish the Words project. I have tried to do the project but time slipped by. I have had company over alot because of he upcoming surgery and been sleeping on and off. Today family came over and we went over the living will, etc and now I have to go out with friends who want to take me out to eat! One last meal before I have to take that ugly prep. I so dont want you, the crafters to hate me. But I need to drop out. I just cant finish this project now. I hope to rejoin when this is all over...please?

I think that if someone(s) drops out, the wrangler should send back the extras (not talking this situation, just in general). In these instances, if I haven't written who it's for directly on the project, then I can give the extra(s) to a friend :)

At one point I didn't think I was going to complete the project for Spring but I did... So now I can't remember who all was signed up for this one. I know I sent extra's but I figured Tommi could keep what was left over... I may or may not have planned it that way...

I loved everything I received this go round... I have been working on my rough draft for the raffle...

Does this mean in this instance we should send one less for Words? Perhaps it would be nice for someone having surgery to get some art work, even if she cannot send hers? Should we send an extra dollar to cover the postage for the extra one?
I am in the dark, this being my first attempt! I have decided though to always make one for myself, and to make a portfolio of them, so I started making 13! (and I will be mailing in a couple of days)

I think it's a personal choice. When I'm wrangling, I personally don't like when people insure the stuff because then somehow it doesn't always end up being delivered to my apartment (no door person), and I end up needing to stand in an inconvenient post office line to get it. I do believe in legible return addresses though :)

Do you all insure the stuff? How do you mail it??

Don't feel bad, I thought it was supposed to be mailed by the 28th, too! I thought I was early this time, but maybe I just made it in under the wire?

As for mailing, I send mine in a flat rate priority mail envelope from the post office. It's under $5 and, so far, it's always made it to the wrangler (knock on wood). I don't insure it and most of the time I don't even ask for the delivery confirmation.

I agree, I'd rather wait a few days if it means we get to see everyone's work. I know all too well how life can get in the way of these deadlines sometimes. But, I wouldn't want to extend the deadline more than a week.

And, as for Softness, I would love it if we could still send her a package. I am more than happy to send you a little extra postage to help cover mailing expenses. I'm sure it would cheer her up after her surgery.

Hello all you amazing right brained peeps!
First of all, I want to sincerely apologize. I started a new job and just finished 7 weeks of training. I think it's been almost that long since I have been on this site. I totally dropped the ball on my spring project. I got 10 done, then never finished or sent them. I feel really bad about it. I got a lovely little reminder from Janey today and she asked if I was still interested in wrangling. I certainly am if y'all will still have me. I promise NOT to drop the artsy-fartsy ball this time.
If yes, then I'll post the next project by the end of today.

When sending an item in the mail it is important not only to address and return address it but also remember this little thing called postage. Item now resent with proper postage. I shall now sit in the corner with my battered often used dunce cap.

I say that we close the sign up now. Normally, the wrangler set the date that sign up will close when they post the project. However, it looks like she hasn't been back to the thread since the project was posted. I believe it's her first time to wrangle, so she probably wasn't aware of all the details involved.

Anyone else want to vote to close sign up?

Due to some past experiences with art that never arrives as well as sending money never returned, we generally like to suggest that those considering wrangling participate in a few projects first. This not only gives the wrangler-to-be some experience in how all of this works but also allows us to see that the potential wrangler is someone who can be trusted with following through on the bigger responsibility of wrangling.

That being said, anyone want to volunteer to wrangle a new project? :)

Sweet, sweet Jennifer ... you worry too much! I know, because I do the same thing. I would also love to start a project soon.

I think it would be nice to do a project this month and then in June and July I think I'll need to really focus on my 6 pages for the reunion project. If I recall correctly, we need to have those to Pixie at the beginning of August?

Also, I hope to hear from Deviant soon, I didn't want to hurt her feelings by dropping out ... it just seemed like the project was floundering without her input.

Pixie is moving in early August, so we need to have our pages to her before then, if we can. Once she's settled, I'm sure she'll give us a new address for the late bloomers of the group.

Hi Pixie....We have a question....Now, that we are all aware that you will be moving what works best for you with the Planet project?

We read Gemme's suggestion, and it was a good one, but then we started thinking about when we made our last move to Erie, Pa....Even with my anal retentive nature (the scientist in me), it took a week for us to have some semblance of order.....It took us even much longer to settle in to our new apartment....Scarier yet, we are still discovering items that were important to us one year later....Yes, I made a list of a list of a list.....I think you know where I am going here....

Do you have a place to designate where the artwork will be kept (i.e. the trunk of your car) when you move? If, you should receive them before the August deadline?.....

I say this in a good way because there is nothing more frustrating than having something you need at a later date, and you cannot find it when you want it or need it...

Just another kind thought sent your way by us....Y&L

Hello All!

Y'all are so kind and so on the ball!!!

I am moving early august, but I have a special box that has all of my crafties and things that always is reachable and will leave that open until August 1. I will accept projects after that deadline, but it will be probably a good three weeks that I won't be able to receive any mail due to travel and set up. That being said.... The deadline to send it to me in Austin should be July 27 so that it has time to get to me :D

And I won't be accepting anymore once I am in Iowa after September 1 so I have a good month to get it all together!!

Does that sound reasonable???

Love you all!

If it's cool with y'all, since time is passin', I'm going to go ahead and post a project for sign up.

THE RISK PROJECT

My idea is for us all to go outside our comfort zone and try a new form of art or creative technique or something each of us personally don't usually do. The idea is to not worry about whether it comes out "good" or not and to just do something that feels risky for you and be okay with sending out the results. Success will be evaluated by oneself based on whether you let yourself get out of what you are used to, not whether the finished project is something you'd consider your best. To the contrary, sending out "imperfect" first results as one's final projects are encouraged.

Sound good?

Cut off date- let's see if we can get our sign ups by end of this weekend.

Due date: June 15th (My correct address starts with 309. If you don't have that, PM me for it.)

Risk! Well so far, my first one was a great risky adventure for me, as I had no idea what everyone else really did! I survived, it was fun and it made me think, write, and create! All good in my book!
I have to say I already had an idea for the Wet dreams one, and was going to use a photo I took for that purpose on my birthday at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (Japanese orange koi swimming in a pond, with a cache of coins shining in the water.......anyway, I will use it for a one of a kind piece of art!)

Very glad you signed up! It's always fun to have a newbie :rrose:.

Here's the basics:

1) Include a single five dollar bill with your project to cover the wrangler's mailing costs.

2) To figure out how many projects to send the wrangler (everything gets sent to the wrangler- in this case, me), wait till the sign-up is closed (end of this weekend), and look how many people signed up. Then mail one less than the # of people signed up (because you don't need to make one for yourself).

3) We frequently do 4 by 6 or 5 by 7 inch homemade postcards, but some people occasionally do something 8.5 by 11. Don't get larger than that. Don't mail anything too heavy or too big. When I mail out the projects, I mail them in a priority mail envelope. Basically you want to keep in mind that it has to be easy and cheap for the wrangler to send with a bunch of other projects.

4) It doesn't have to be a postcard. Some people make a little journal, use photos they've taken, or other random creativity. They should have a homemade quality to them. They can all be the same or each be different. You can label who you want each to go to or let the wrangler decide. It's all up to you.

5) Dont' worry about skill level. Some people are very professional craft genius types and other people are just having fun and expressing themselves. It's nice to have a mix! Some people spend a long time on their projects and others don't. It's all good! The most important thing is to complete your projects relatively on time and send them in.

Let us know if you have other questions :rrose:

I am converting my seldom used spice rack into a craft rack. It looks like the spice rack found at this (http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/products/olde-thompson/spice-rack/spice-racks) link. I don't mind losing this spice rack because it was given to me many years ago and the jars are not air tight, which means if I put any spices in them, they will go bad or worse: Attract bugs. Yuck!

My quandary is this: Currently, the lids have all been labeled in silver paint with which spice is supposed to be in which jar. I can't figure out how to get the silver paint off. Simply marking over the words with a black permanent marker is a viable option, but you can still see the words somewhat.

Ideas?

Please help me crafty friends!!! :)

Crylon rustolium spray paint. Covers anything, then get some silver paint and re paint them.

That is true, but I actually LOVE this idea. I can just see a tiny button here or a little piece of ribbon there. You could make your converted craft rack into a crafty venture all its own.

Since I don't have the time, money, or space to spray paint, I have blackened all the lettering with permanent marker and attached one of each item to its corresponding jar using double-sided tape. Works for now. :)

SO. I'm gonna do it again. I got my Sketchbook in today's mail. It's different. Where we had a choice before, we did not this time. All covers are brown cardboard-ish. No worries there. AND ~ the part that *I* love ~ there aren't as many pages to fill!!!

I am on a school trip in Philadelphia, coming back Friday! 45 7th graders! School will be out June 10th and until then I have 95 reports to do and an entire classroom to pack! It will be dicey, but I think I will make it!

June 15th for risk. I am glad about it. I'm not quite done.

Oh thank God!
WHY did I think they were due today?
I sometimes enjoy being wrong!
This would be one of those times!
Thank You, sweet Poet! :)

I've been "zentangling" since I was in junior high (so...roughly 21 years). They stole my idea and made it popular! :fastdraq:

That's what *I* was thinking! But since I'm so much older than YOU, YOU stole it from ME! :giggle:

I'm thinking that someone was pretty smart to give it a clever name and market it....Zentangle KIT? I love it! Cara....I think we should get a cut! ;)

Since I am older than both of you, and the bank account is in my name... I buy an 8 X 10 tablet with hard paper and some different # sketching pencils, and a really fine permanent marker, and begin with a scribble. Such fun, and relaxing

Visited today Kiteya, a Japanese store which had offered a groupon (or a bloomspot coupon), in Soho (Broom Street). Charming shop, where I got hand made Japanese origami paper, a book on how to use textiles to wrap Japanese style, and a little black silk zipped pouch for lipstick and sundries. Owners really charming too, they gave me a little gift for having visited! (Japanese incense wrapped in silk). They have a nice selection of Japanese hand made paper.

Thank you, Diva, for posting the link! I hate to say I don't know how to post links! However, my project is coming along, I have almost all the materials, and although the technique will be risky for me, I kept the previous aborted theme of "wet dreams"! My visit to Kiteya inspired some of the steps I will take! Enough said!

Several of us have participated in our projects for a while now. How do You store them? At first, I was putting them in a photo box....since outgrown!

Ideas?

I'm still working on a good system for that. Right now, I have some in the original mailers/packaging and tucked away in my footlocker or a plastic tub. Some are semi-loose in the plastic boxes and tubs and some are just kinda sitting around, waiting for me to figure out what the Hell to do with them.

There are a few pieces that I would like to showcase and plan on either putting them in cases and hanging the decorative cases and/or using open boxes and blocks mounted on the wall and tucking the project inside.

Was in the West Village this morning and ran into the Jane Street Flea Market Day, and bought a set of Nepali deities woodblock printing set, complete with lokia paper, handmade from the bark of the daphne tree. They are: Buddha, Manjushri Bodhisattva of Wisdom, Green Tara the patron Goddess of Tibet in her aspect of motherly compassion, Maya-Devi the mother of Buddha, and Mayakali or Great Black One, the Protector.
They also came with an archival red pigment ink pad.

I don't know how I will use them, but they were only $5 for the set!

I started out on something totally different....and got so many paper cuts after doing TWO of them.....well.....I love Y'all, but those things HURT! So I had started something new and so I did a set of those.

Are we going to be working on our P.L.A.N.E.T. stuff now? Or are we doing another project? I don't see how I can....I'm going on vacation in a month (Road Trip!) and after that, I'll be getting ready for my very first show!! :)

Actually, yes and no. We're getting our p's and q's in order, but it won't be long now before an announcement will be made regarding decorations for the Reunion. It's a fun, easy project and those who would like to participate are more than welcome.

As soon as we have all the info, we'll post the details in here! :)

Congrats on your SHOW, you infamous artist, you!!!! That's a HUGE deal, so we would understand if you have enough on your plate without that project.

We should ALL be working on our PLANET pages so they can be sent to Pixie (preferrably) before she moves far, far away in a couple of months. *sad face that's happy for her but will miss her bouncy energy HERE*

Oh Lord, the PRESSURE!!!!! lol
I hope I haven't jumped the gun.....it's a juried show and I haven't been accepted yet! And while I hate rejection, I am willing acceptance....so there You have it!:praying:

It's the Old Pecan Street Fall Festival, the last weekend in September. They just had their spring show last month....I certainly wasn't ready for that one. But I loved just walking around, checking out the booths. This year, I went with a different mindset than before....I went to check things out! My art, *I* believe, would fit in nicely.

So thank You, Jennifer, for Your sweet words....that made me smile and lifted my spirits! :heartbeat:

I started working this weekend on the reunion project. I finished a piece that I really love, but realized as soon as I glued the last bit in place that I didn't leave room for the binding! So, I guess I'll be starting over. :(

Just wondered if anyone has suggestions for how much space should be left clear for binding?

Half an inch at least, I would think. Pixie told me once but we were eating and it was really good and all I heard in my head was "Yumyumyumyum".

I am pretty sure she said half an inch.

As far as the project goes, I :stillheart: Jennifer so much because she always picks the most thoughtful, profound projects and this one has stumped me repeatedly.

I'm not ashamed to say that I've failed miserably at one thing....the MAIN thing I wanted to do....but given my procrastination and general frustration with it, I'm letting it go and you all will see my goof and my attempt to fix it as best I could. In the end, it's turning out to not be so bad. It's different, that's for sure, and that's the goal, right? So, we're good. :)

Don't trash it just yet. Maybe she can still work with it somehow. She's uber creative.
