Good. I was hoping the idea would grow on you. The amount of weaving would be up to you, so it wouldn't have to be one big piece or anything. As long as we could tell it's in there, you'd be good.
So, is anyone up for adding a couple more components or would the majority prefer just to work with the weaving parameter?

Since I have both colored papers & such AND I have jewelry making wire, etc...my choice is to use the weaving method and follow some other ideas/parameters we all decide upon.
Either way...wicked cool ideas ohhhh Gemme one!!!
Careful there. You're starting to sound like a New Englander with that wicked talk.

I'd like to see more components to make things interesting.

snipped part of Gemme's post...:)
I am along for the ride, too! A couple more components would make it more interesting plus give each of us more choices.....I LIKE it!!

Great!
I'm interested in astrology and have always had a bit of a fascination with Chinese Astrology and the Five Elements.
Here is my proposal: in addition to the method of weaving, choose one element (metal, wood, water, fire, earth) and one other option of your choice (zodiac signs, colors, seasons, directions, diseases, tastes, heavenly creatures) from the Five Elements Grid below. If you are familiar with this grid, then you know I've subtracted some options. I really don't want something connected to a bodily organ so that went out the window.
The Five Elements Grid
Elements Metal Wood Water Fire Earth (ONE OF THESE)
PLUS ONE OF THESE
Zodiac signs (yang) Monkey Tiger Rat Horse Dragon/Dog
Zodiac signs (yin) Rooster Rabbit Pig Snake Ox/Sheep
Colors White Green Black Red Brown
Seasons Autumn Spring Winter Summer Intermediate
Directions West East North South Central
Diseases Dry Wind Cold Hot Wet
Tastes Spicy Sour Salty Bitter Sweet
Planets Venus Jupiter Mercury Mars Saturn
Heavenly Creatures White Tiger Green Dragon Black Tortoise Vermilion Bird Yellow Dragon
The possibilities are limitless and the project could be completely abstract in nature or very literal, as in a piece of the ocean. The waves could be woven and that would take care of the element of water and the disease of wet or cold or you could relay wind somehow.
I don't want anyone to overthink this. For those that want to do a fall/autumn themed project, there's your season right there. Just weave something and include an element, which could be rain or a bonfire or earthy leaves.
I would love for this project to be an adventure in creativity but not so difficult that anyone loses interest or enjoyment in it.
If someone wants to include more than the minimum requirements, by all means, do so. But there would only be three required components: weaving, an element and one other grid option of your choice.
Does this sound like something you would like to do?

And if you are thinking to yourself...self, what IS Gemme talking about?...then you can read up on it here (https://www.travelchinaguide.com/intro/astrology/five-elements.htm). Maybe it could help jog some ideas as well.

"For 2016, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2017. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project. Mine came on Saturday and really made my day!
I couldn't tell who did some of them and I'm still trying to guess. I signed mine on the back.
So, I did 8 different ones, did everyone do different ones, or did you all do the same secret 8 times?
NYCfem, thank you for wrangling and the extra goody...and FSF thank you for the extras, I loved the whole package!
I'm skipping this next one due to being out of town the next few weekends, but I hope to do the one after that.

Today is the last day to sign up! If you are interested, please do so. If you have questions, today is the last day to ask them for this particular project. I'm back at work so if any questions are asked, it will be later in the day before I will get the chance to answer them. I will compile the final list of participants tomorrow morning, to give those on opposite coasts time to join if they'd like, so sign up will run through the whole evening. No late additions!
I'm excited for this project! I know it sounds difficult, but it's really not. Your grid option could be the color red so you would use the color red in the project with some sort of weaving (it can be added to the project as long as it's a part of the project itself and we can tell that it's weaving) and you could incorporate a piece of wood into the project (popsicle stick, anyone?). Bam! You've met the minimum requirements and are good to go.
Please don't make this more difficult than it really is. The most important thing is to have FUN. This is a bit out of the box in terms of our normal projects and I'd love for those participating to let themselves go and be as free as you can. Maybe even a little wonky. I love wonky. Wonky art winds up on my walls all the time!

Everyone have fun and don't take yourself too seriously. I'm looking at a couple of you, specifically. :weightlifter:
As a sidenote: maybe as a group, we should revisit the late rule as it is not 100% equal for all participants. Those who are late in the end of the year only have to wait out 1-2 projects but someone who is late in January has to wait all year. Something for us to touch on before the end of the year, maybe?

I have faith that you can totally do this! I haven't been creative in so long that mine are really simple and basic. It's the best I could do given the amount of time, resources, and creativity available to me right now. I will be happy to see everyone's projects no matter what!
...and I haven't been able to get to the post office yet because I'm sick. Hopefully I can tomorrow.
Xoxo
cara's got the right idea.....don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. The weaving can be something small and simple. It doesn't have to be the focal point. Don't overthink this! You ladies totally can do this!!
Georgia, when we were signing up, you said you had an idea right away. Did you have to adjust that during the process or is your idea still feasible?
CCB, I get that way all the time with the projects too! Luckily, this is a smaller group, so there are less projects to actually make. I would make a short list and tick off the points as you brainstorm and create.
1. Weave something. Think small, like a friendship bracelet, versus big, like a scarf or blanket. It can be a small part of the piece; it doesn't have to be the majority of it unless you want to go that big. I wanted to do something different, but not to mess anyone up so please don't look at this part of the project as a mountain to climb. It's just a cute lil molehill. Promise!
2. Choose an element and somehow incorporate it into your pieces (Metal Wood Water Fire Earth). These can be part of the base of the pieces or simulated or drawn onto the pieces or you could adhere a toothpick or bottle cap or chunks of dirt onto the pieces. That would qualify.
3. Here's the easiest part of it, imo. You can either put one of the animals I mentioned in the piece or use one of the colors mentioned or show one of the seasons somehow, for example.
If you don't try to build Rome in a day with the weaving, I think the rest will fall into place. I struggled with a couple of ideas and then I switched it when I received nyc's because she did her weaving similar to what I was going to do and I didn't want to have that duplicity.
Everyone in this round is super creative and artistic and I am mega happy that you all signed up for it. Shake the jitters out, CCB, because your work is awesome. You haven't done anything that I haven't enjoyed very much in all this time we've done rounds together.
We do have to keep the schedule in mind though. Make SURE that I have your lovely bits of goodness and a few bucks in hand on or before the 22nd.

I had the seed of an idea. Growing it into a complete project has been a little difficult because I, myself, made it difficult by not being able to make up my mind about some things. I think I've got it now, though it's going to require at least one more trip to the craft store.
Thanks for the encouragement, Gemme!

I finally, finally made it to the post office today! The package should arrive by Thursday at the latest, Gemme.

Yes. Thanks.
According to my tracking tool, my swap items were delivered today, Gemme. Hooray!
What kind of crafty stuff have you all been up to for Halloween this year? I haven't had a ton of time, but I found a few cute things at Jo-Anne's and Target: pre-cut and scored paper coffins ($1.00 for a pack of 4!) and some glass test tubes with labels a la Martha Stewart (On sale for nearly 75% off!). I will be using those for a few small candy gifts for my co-workers. I am also going to attempt to carve a pumpkin this weekend using a cookie cutter and a hammer/mallet. We'll see how that goes. My back-up plan is a pumpkin with silver thumbtacks that will spell out something spooky. 😳

I have an idea I'd like to float for the next project. I think it's a pretty easy one, and I feel like we need an easy one - at least I do, for this upcoming holiday time of year. Is everyone ready to start thinking about a new idea? Or does anyone else have their heart set on being the next wrangler?

Thanks for the feedback! Lately it seems like the most crafty thing I want to do is color. The autumn leaves have really inspired me. I was thinking that we could have a coloring exchange with two parts. First, find something you want to color, whether it's something you find in a book or something you draw yourself. Next, before coloring it, make a copy/copies of it - so you can send a blank one along with your colored picture to each person. The goal is to exchange not only pictures we have colored with each other, but also to send uncolored versions so that we can all have new things to color in our own way.
A couple of guidelines:
1. Color a picture of anything you want. If you want to make something out of your colored picture, that is fine too, but the primary object is to color the paper.
2. Any medium is fine - color pencils, crayons, markers, but if you use some of of the messier tools, like pastels, then please spray with a fixative before sending. If you want to use some other method of decoration, like stamping, that is fine too, but it must also involve some coloring.
3. I'm willing to go up to anything 8-1/2 x 11, but please keep it flat, unless you don't mind folding it.
4. This is a guideline that some may object to, and I'm willing to discuss it. However, I'd like to say that, for this project, photocopying is okay. I often color large pictures with a lot of detail - it can take me a couple of weeks to color one picture. I'd prefer to color something large and detailed and make copies of it to send to every participant. The alternative would be coloring several small, not-as-detailed pieces, which doesn't excite me as much.
Does this sound like a project that any of you would be interested in?

I'm not a 'colorer' per say but I did purchase an adult coloring book a while back to use some of the pages in my background for mixed media so I have something to work with in this project and it would give me a chance to use up some of my pencils and markers.
This would be new for me so I'd absolutely love to give it a shot. I'll keep my eyes open for the sign up for it!
I would like a tiny bit of clarification re: the blank copies. Is it required that it be the same picture or can we send additional, similar pictures?
It's no sweat either way; I'm just splitting hairs.

Count me in too. I'm also fine with the idea of photocopying if the individual desires or coloring each picture individually (I.e. it's nice to be able to make that personal choice myself). I would also like the ability to give a different blank coloring page to the person who is receiving my project than the one that I myself colored (I.E. A different design). That way I can think of what each person might specifically enjoy. It sounds like a great project! I absolutely love to color and I have tons of coloring books. I am looking forward to this project.

I'm going to say it will be okay to send a similar picture instead of a copy of the exact one you are coloring. I suppose if someone wanted to, they could take actual pages out of a coloring book and send those. The idea was mainly for us all to get a bunch of new pages to color, in addition to seeing everyone else's beautiful artwork.

No, I don't think I'll set a limit, especially since people can photocopy, and since there's no size minimum, either. Let's everybody color!

This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules."

Coloring Project ! ! !
Sign up at the bottom!
This exchange has two parts. We'll exchange colored pages, and also blank coloring pages. The goal is to share not only pictures we have colored with each other, but also to send uncolored versions so that we can all have new things to color in our own way.
1. Find something you want to color, whether it's something you find in a book or something you draw yourself or something you print off the internet.
2. Before coloring it, make copies of it - so you can send a blank one along with your colored picture to each person. (Alternative: Send similar uncolored pictures instead of a copy of the one you are coloring. Send the removed pages from a coloring book if you want to.)
3. Color the picture. Either color one picture and make enough copies of the finished work for everybody to have one, or color a different, original picture for every person. It's up to you.
A couple of guidelines:
Color a picture of anything you want. If you want to make something out of your colored picture, that is fine too, but the primary object is to color the paper.
Any medium is fine - color pencils, crayons, markers, but if you use some of of the messier tools, like pastels, then please spray with a fixative before sending. If you want to use some other method of decoration, like stamping, that is fine too, but it must also involve some coloring.
Up to 8-1/2 x 11 and keep it flat, unless you don't mind folding it.
Photocopying is okay.
Sign up ends Sunday, 10/30. Projects are due to me on or before Monday, 11/28. They are officially late and the late rule applies on Tuesday, 12/6.

I can't wait to see what everyone does! Coloring isn't my forte but I know some of you are super great at it, so I'm stoked.
One thing I'd like to work out sometime before the end of the year is an adaptation to our tardiness rule for 2017. For those that miss a deadline in the beginning of the year versus those that miss a deadline at the end, it's not an equal consequence for the same action.
What if we did a 6 month time out, starting the month they are late? Of course, this would REQUIRE the wranglers to be honest about who was late and to make sure that information got to the whomever is keeping track. It would be nice if we could go a whole year without anyone on 'the list' but life is tricky that way, as we've learned through the years. So, what do you think?

I am in agreement with Gemme, in the part I bolded!
Having it be 6 months would be difficult..as someone would have to keep track and wranglers would have to be diligent & help keep up with whom was late. This would be very difficult I would think as we have different wranglers, and not always same participants..so how would it be handled to be true....
Meanwhile, are we having fun yet? I am...a bit crosseyed BUT having fun nonetheless!!

I agree that the current way may be easier but it's definitely not fair. I'm more concerned with being fair than being easy, honestly, now that we've tested this for a full year.
Georgia, I'm not married to the 6 months. What would you suggest?
The late rule has always been contingent on the honesty of the wrangler, which has wavered from time to time. Some people may want to gloss over it or feel bad for someone who didn't get their work in on time but those people may not remember or understand WHY we implemented the rule in the first place. There are still projects that are floating around out there, somewhere....maybe in a landfill for all I know.
I wouldn't mind a bit of record keeping if it works out that way but I'm not fully comfortable with it how it is now so I'm asking for some other options. Anyone have any?

I also like the ease of the current system but do understand how it has the potential to be unfair. I think if someone were willing to do the bookkeeping behind keeping track of those who are banned for a determined amount of time it could work. We'd have to come to a consensus on how long we wanted to restrict people. I'll refrain from commenting on that since I am a person in question who dropped out of a project.

That doesn't have anything to do with it. In January, everyone's even Steven again and that is when any changes would kick in.

I guess that the more I think about it, even though it is easier to just think of the end of the year as a fresh start, I can see your point about how it makes more sense to just give each person Who doesn't follow through with the project or deadline six months. I also agree that honesty by the wrangler is paramount. And it is true that people who have not been participating in this thread for years do not know how The group projects were so often sabotaged without clear rules in place and consequences that were real and enforced.

I would like to see each participant keep tabs on the thread regularly for any new posts, updates, etc......cause sometimes, the tides change...:)
Above all, 2017 is a brand new year & everyone has a clean slate, even steven, so to speak.
I just want us to all enjoy this forum & have fun!!!!! I like to have fun!!!!
Thank you to everyone whose posting ideas, suggestions, etc. Have an awesome day!!
.....just wading in on the subject at hand ...... as you know my CD package did not arrive (on time) and I have stepped back until the beginning of the year - I own it. Not that I would have necessarily participated during the past few months but if this had happened to me in January or February, it would be a long 'time-out'. Just sayin'!
Regarding the housekeeping of who is not able to participate if the system changes to a specific length of time ..... I would prefer the participant say something like "I am not able to continue on this project and I am aware I am not able to participate in another project until Month Day, Year."(This would be XX months AFTER the final arrival-to-the-Wrangler date). I think we would be able to find this info in a search should we need to.
Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for making me look at this in a whole different light nanners!!
What about instead of looking at months, how about going by say, 3 projects to have to sit out participating? It would be the responsibility of the participant to know when that time frame is up & be able to participate again...still could be someone who wants to keep up with this as well.
This is an excellent suggestion.

nanners was thinking that with some of the projects that go several weeks out, the participant may only miss 2 projects, if one runs say 6 weeks each as several of ours has.

Crafting: the skill in doing or making something. To make or construct with care or ingenuity.
We all come here to be inspired. To try something new. Cross over our comfort zone to be creative. All of us take time and effort to complete a project. We understand, I hope we do, the guidelines of a certain project. The theme, the materials, the size...
We know the dates to start and finish. The cost of postage has been discussed. A sign up has occurred.
I feel we all are adults and we can monitor our selves. It's pretty cut and dry. I'm sure there are those who get frustrated. As those who get frustrated after completing a project to find out, one of those pieces will get mailed back to us.
I think we need to open the lines of communication wider. Are we on time? Take a roll call to see where everyone stands. And if, for what ever reason, there is an instance where a project is not going to be completed, a drop out, per say...it should be sooner than the weekend before it's due. Be mindful to others.
If there is a drop out, you need to monitor yourself for a time out.

RE: the new 2017 policy
I have mixed feelings about this, so if everybody wants to change it to a rolling scheduled time-out I am perfectly willing to go along with it.
I just have one point to add in favor of keeping it "clean slate at the beginning of the year". Our policy mostly worked in 2016. Ultimately, that is what we want. Since it is simpler to keep it at the beginning of the year, and since it did mostly work, we might want to consider keeping it.
I understand what you mean about it not being fair, Gemme, in that some people have longer time-out periods than others. However, we all have the choice when we sign up for a project of knowing what the consequences are. In my mind, that goes a long way toward making it fair in another sense - because we all agree to the rules/dates every time we sign up for a project.
nycfem
11-01-2016, 07:57 PM
I think lots of little rules might be too complicated. I guess in reading everyone's thoughts I lean towards Gemme's original idea of 6 mo. time out after a missed project. It equals things out but makes the rule have some power to it. I'm wary of having any less than six months because in the past we have seen the projects devolve into nothingness without a very clear and concise set of rules that apply to everyone.
nycfem
11-01-2016, 07:59 PM
I also love Deb's idea that the person who misses the project MUST post that they missed the project and what date they are due back in so that all we have to do is scroll back. That also puts the responsibility where it should be. When people disappear after a missed project it's not too cool. I appreciate how CCB continued to participate in the thread. The rules are not about hating someone, just making the projects work.

I'm a Devil's advocate, debate each little piece of fluff and stuff, beat a dead horse kind of person, so please bear with me. I also talk to myself, so this is a little bit of that too, as I try to work through it out loud.
Okay, so say two kids are caught with equal amounts of pot. This is a first offense for each. One gets 6 months probation and the other gets 16 months in juvenile detention. For the same crime. Even taking out the probation versus juvie, the sentences certainly aren't fair for. the. exact. same. crime. Life isn't fair, no, but do we have to sacrifice fairness for convenience? Both kids knew that pot was illegal. It seems like it should be an assumption that the consequences for their actions should be relative to one another or at least in the same ballpark. This is supposed to be fun for us, right? Having to wait nearly a year to participate because I screwed up would be a bitter pill to swallow if it were me.
I decided to introduce this now to give time for people to let it marinate for a while before the end of the year and really consider some options and what they would feel is not only appropriate but could actually work. I truly appreciate all the feedback so far as it's given me food for thought. I don't expect to figure things out right away but these responses have been a hella good start.
It's one thing to hear from people who haven't had to sit things out for a bit but I'm so glad that sis posted and her idea is really good. I don't think anyone plans on falling off but because this is supposed to be fun, I don't want the consequences to outweigh the benefits of joining rounds. On the other hand, I don't want folks to get away with murder (or ghosting or flaking out, etc ) either. The time of each of us is equally valuable and I don't want to waste anyone's nor have my own time wasted.
I keep coming back to the wranglers. There have been wranglers that, they themselves, have been unreliable with time frames and whatnot. We depend on wranglers now but changing the premise would put a little more responsibility on the wranglers to honor the thread's intent and rules and hold those who don't follow them responsible as well.
Anyway, it's something to think about.

This is some suggestions/ideas/thoughts from nanners, she asked me to post for her!
Sure hope I am conveying this correctly for my friend, if not I will own it...:)
Anyone else?
nanners was thinking that with some of the projects that go several weeks out, the participant may only miss 2 projects, if one runs say 6 weeks each as several of ours has.
Sure hope I am conveying this correctly...nanners will be along after work, I am certain, to clarify...:)
Clay, Thank you for posting for me this morning, I sure appreciate it!
Clay was correctly conveying my thoughts. After reading the posts after that, I think quite a few want to keep closer to the original way it's been working but with a shorter time out of 6 months or so, right?
I would agree to that...I'll go along with whatever the majority wants.
So, how's the coloring going for everyone?
I made my copies today and am bringing mine to work to work on during my lunch breaks...a good stress reliever!

I like the notion of some degree at least of self policing. I like the idea of personally stating you are on restriction and when/ for how long so there's a record of it in the thread. But I also think someone needs to be keeping track and tabs on people. Unfortunate that it has to be that way.
It seems we need to agree on what the restriction should be. I think six months is fair. It should be a big consequence but not too big, I think. I'll agree to whatever the majority thinks.

I agree with everything CCB said.
As someone who has totally flaked out and been a difficult participant in the past, I don't really have anything to add except that I agree with a lot that has been written already. It would be nice to have twice yearly amnesty, but I also feel like if it's the same people over and over, they should be more honest with themselves and everyone else as to whether or not they will complete the project on time. The other hard part is how to keep track.

I agree with CCB's post, & like that we are having this discussion!
cara....I LOVE the word "amnesty" as I disdain the words..."banned/restricted/etc..etc..... amnesty has a really cool ring to it...really impressed that folks have owned their part,
& I like to see us discussing this topic!
Thank you to the ones who have come forward & owned it. That shows a lot of courage!! I know we can have an amazing year next year!! Self policing is a really helpful way for us all to keep up with things!!
I love this group...I do! I do!!

I recommend sending your original to the wrangler as a gift for being the wrangler. Then you can send copies of your finished project to the other seven people. You would also send all eight people a similar coloring paper for them to color that is blank except for the design that they will color in. Personally the project I'm doing is not so complicated that I can't do originals for everyone. So that's also an option to keep in mind. I think the idea of sending people copies is more for if it is a really involved original project that takes a very long time and could not be replicated without quite a lot of effort.

I wrote up a draft to include some of our concerns from this year to use for 2017. Does it seem okay?
"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2017. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2017. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.
Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2017 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:
'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/14/17. I can start participating in new projects on 8/14/17. I have added myself to the list below:
1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/17, able to participate 7/28/17)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/14/17, able to participate 8/14/17)'
This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Just like Georgia said, all of your work goes to her. She will collect everyone's work, repackage them according to size/weight/etc and send them back out again in new packaging with work from all of the participants.
That is what the wrangler does and this is where the money for packaging comes into play. If, for some reason, your package is larger than average, send more than $5 to compensate for that and for the extra cost Georgia would have in mailing your work out to everyone else.
I think I picked a coloring page that may be too detailed. Two hours later and it looks like I've only just begun. Or maybe I should change my medium from a fine tip pen. Also? I'm not the world's greatest colored. Regardless, it has been a nice few hours of coloring. 😊

"For 2016, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2017. This was the most recent amended rules fro 2017 that I posted. I suggest we go with this unless we want to continue discussing and running things by each other. How about we go with it for now unless someone wants to post suggesting a discussion of an amendment?
"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due.
That works for me too. I like the fairness of it as each person who is late gets the same time to do personal stuff outside of the thread as everyone else who has been late and I like the responsibility of it, which is really why we felt it necessary to create rules for tardiness anyway.
Any people considering wrangling need to take an extra moment to make sure that they are willing to abide by the rules for everyone, whether it's a friend or even your boo that is late. I think the wrangler mail out part of the rule will help with this because a wrangler must get all of the completed packages back out into the mail within a week of the late date or else risk getting their own self on the late list. I like a system of checks and balances.
On a related note, I can't wait to hear what you have in store, nanners!

I'd like to wrangle the next project...is that OK with everyone?
If so, so here's my idea....
Since the Holiday season is a busy time of year for many, I thought it could be something that you can make simply, or get as detailed as you wish.
You will make a folded notecard, matching envelope optional, with your wish for the New Year as a quote or your own words. You can be serious or funny, make it personal or general. No larger that 5 X 7 please. You can use any medium you want making the card.
I'd like to make the signup deadline Dec. 11th at 6p.m. CST and make the deadline due to wrangler on Jan. 6th. (Is that enough time or considering the Holidays should it maybe be Jan. 14th?)
What do you all think?

I like it nanners! I have just one question, though. Is the quote/wish part of the design of the card (i.e., on the front), or is it the message of the card (i.e., on the inside)?

That would be up to the person designing the card. Either way is fine.

Given the ease of the project, I'd say that the 6th of January should be plenty of time to complete the cards and get them to you. There's still the week before the late rule kicks in, so imo that should be fine.
I was thinking about resolutions earlier this week and this kind of plays off of that, so I think it's going to be fun!

Sounding good so far, I'll wait to hear from a few others, and if it looks like a GO I'll post the sign up Monday evening.
Just poking my head in with a gentle reminder that mail delivery is different for those living outside of the continental USA. No, I will not be participating until 2017 but if I was participating in this round I would have to spend extra $$ on express mail OR have the packet mailed out on the sign-up closure date (especially during the holiday season) and then hope my packet would arrive by the due date.

I agree to the new rules & like that each person has a responsibility to post if they should miss a deadline & add themselves to the list.
One thing I see recurring a lot is this....we have an "original" due date the wrangler posts...and it has always said ON OR BEFORE a specific date. It seems to me this gets misinterpreted often...and participants see it as 'Oh good projects aren't actually due on say 02/14/17 but rather due by 02/21/17. ....SO we should take the responsibility to ensure if we are signing up take responsibility to adhere to that ON OR BEFORE specific date. The 1 week past original due date is a buffer of sorts, & sometimes IS necessary to get projects in by.
I am always so excited for NEW projects & getting completed ones, so I like when we get them in on original due date and not extend another week...it is good for a buffer, or emergencies that may/do come up in life...:)
Anyway that is something I want to see clearer for folks who do sign up...
Great job on New Rules for 2017!! Thanks!!!
Excellent & fun ideas nanners! Thank you for offering to wrangle & a swell idea!!
I am in.....look forward to signups.....

One thing I would like to see going forward is that everyone who signs up sees & adheres to the On or Before date...and makes an effort to get their projects in on that date, and only uses the one week buffer for emergencies....please & thank you!!!

Clay, I for one agree and have to admit it will really help me if that could happen with this project. I'm supposed to leave on vacation on the 13th of January...but may need to change that if someone's does not come until the 14th. :praying:

OMG, The Pressure!!!
No, seriously, nanners, why did you set it up that way? Should we all maybe just agree to set that date back one day? I really don't think you should have to possibly delay your vacation, and wait with dread until you have all the projects. Since we're at the beginning of the project, it would be okay with me to shift the date back by one day now.

And nan has a week to get all of the packages out to us from the 13th, so that's going to be tight for her too, depending on how long her vacation is.
I agree that the timing and deadlines could have been tweaked a bit differently but this project is definitely one of our easier ones to accomplish the goal, so I'm thinking it was nanners hedging a bet that we'd all get done early enough that she could get the packages back out to us before her vacation.
I think we can do it! :)

Yes, Gemme, you are exactly right. I thought about it and decided since many of us would have days off around the 24th-25th of Dec and Dec 31-Jan 1 as well, that there might be a little extra time to work on projects as well. I already have the envelopes to send the notecards out as well...and I will address them as soon as I have all the addresses. I have many of your addresses already.

This is not in regard to the current project, but what is the best way to seal a cut-out piece of collage into a jewelry holder. I need to seal it IN and seal it OVER (on top). How can I keep the paper collage piece from getting wet and crinkled looking? I guess this could also be asked in regard to getting a piece of paper safely sealed onto anything when you want it to look nice. Thank you for your ideas in advance.

You can mod podge the paper a couple layers to protect it. Then what I use in my jewelry is called Diamond Glaze. It will seal your collage in nicely. You can find it on Etsy or Amazon.
It wont crinkle your paper, but it will make it translucent if you don't protect it first.
It can also be used as a glue and for sealing in glitter. It's awesome stuff.

I may have an answer, have you tried gesso or matt/gloss medium? Try them on test paper first!

"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. Hello everyone :newbie:
I just got back in touch w/a friend I havent talked to in 3 years & I find that I am enjoying our back & forth emails, so I thought I'd come here & see if anyone would like a penpal - over email or snail mail. :)
I am not really all that crafty, so I cant join in on that fun (& it *does* look like fun!), but if you're looking for a straight up penpal, let me know!
Cheers,
~Parker
