I am not allowed to sign up for anything else. I have 5 half done match boxes, am 3 weeks (will be 4 weeks sat) behind on my year long art journal project, have my grandsons birthday coming up, have a shawl to knit, plus other small projects

this week end will be a craft weekend with movie rentals

Well, okay, I received my index cards and they are about 3"X5" ......... so, I'll need to make my own which isn't difficult as I have cardstock that will work well. However, could someone take a moment and send me the exact measurement of the standard '6 X4' cards. I know they should be 6" X 4" but you never know if they actually are.

Thank you!

For those of you in the Summer Recipe project, are there any foods you prefer cooking over others? (beef, fish, poultry, pork) Favorite summer fruits? Sangria? Marinades? Spicy or not so spicy? Just looking to try and personalize the recipe cards to each of you. I have my supplies and can't wait to sit down and get this party started. Anything that involves food should involve some kind of party. :cheer:

hey kim...thanks for asking...teetotalers here. We like spicy, marinades, all the summer fruits. We prefer to smoke most of our proteins, we love grilling as well as doing our veggies that way. I am excited to see the different things from everyone. I have included some desserts, some cute "drink ideas", and simple things....to name a couple...I am sure the whole booklet will be awesome, just seeing the creativity of everyone....

Remember to make six sets of recipes and 6 separator cards with your name on it. Refer to the directions that were sent.

Nope. I'm good. I'll wait to be surprised and delighted as usual.

In semi-related news, I've made great progress today. I would have made more progress or even finished if I didn't keep changing my mind about what direction to take each shrine. I had it all mapped out and then BAM!

Bumping because this is our last weekend!

Bumping CCB's closed project due June 20th:

1) CCB - mermaid goddesses
2)Gemme-mythical creatures and their associated elements (such as Dragons&Fire OR Unicorns&Earth OR Pegasus&Air OR Water Sprites& Water), no mermaids for Gemme
3)purepicese-Buddah/Zen
4)AMI fairy gardens
5)nycfem - cute, colorful hamburgers
6)ahk-- day of the dead aka sugar skulls

AND saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Gemme, Ahk, and Besame!!!:wine::sushi::tea::bunchflowers::bouquet:

For my shrines, I made "pulls" for opening them but I caution to please push from the back as you open with the pull so that the pull does not come off-- because the matchboxes are pretty tight (with art) and stuffed-- so it's all kind of a fragile deal!

CCB, I'm mailing you sometime this week. I am mailing the money separately in a sticker decorated envelope!

This project was the bomb dot com!

Agreed to all aspects.

If they made the inner box just a wee bit smaller, it would be better to accommodate the layers of paint and fluff and stuff.

I'm worried about some of my parts shifting in the mail so don't be surprised if each box is triple or even quadruple wrapped.

ahk's shrine has a part that I purposefully did not fasten down but it shouldn't create too much of a problem in shipping. Just be aware that that is intentional.

if you open my box and it smells a bit like surf and turf and burnt sugar it is becasue Gemme's spontaniously combusted. :confused:

Nope, not at all! To be honest, your shrine was going sideways and downhill really fast but then a miracle happened and POOF! it was gorgeous and just right. It's my favorite as of this very moment.

I've fallen into the same Zen pit that CCB was in earlier but I have faith that it will all work out in the end. And, if it sucks that bad, I have a package of 20 other boxes to start over with.

I braved a downpour to get to the post office at lunch today. Mine are on the way! I sent them in a priority package, so I hope you'll have it by the end of the week. ($5 included)

CCB - I really enjoyed this project. I would like to do this over and over with different themes! I went a little crazy with Jenn's. My sister was around when I was making them and she kept saying that the burger one was hilarious, which is NOT what I was going for! So, I made some alterations, but I guess we'll see.

I'm sorry my theme has turned out to be difficult. I was torn between Zen and Steampunk. Maybe steampunk would have been easier. See, we need to do another round!

I'm sorry my theme has turned out to be difficult. I was torn between Zen and Steampunk. Maybe steampunk would have been easier. See, we need to do another round!

Yay!!!! I will keep my eye out for your package.

I am up for another round of projects. Interested to hear what ahk's ideas are. (With details lol.)

No worries on having a challenging theme. I think I finally got myself to good place with yours! :)

I say we do another round!! I have some new ideas too-- that involve ATC (artist trading cards).

But I wanted to talk with CCB about it first-- with details. :)

Steampunk! I still have pieces from ami's project eons ago where she sent the same things to all of us and some of them would have worked for that. Maybe next time!

ORRRR

Maybe themes can be mashed, randomly. Steampunk Zen or Mermaid Gardens or Hamburger Sugar Skulls for example.

I would be up for another box/shrine round BUT I want bigger boxes dammit. There's so much I tried to do but it literally would not fit right with the minis.

My main issue is finding balance between too simple and too complicated and I find that much harder the smaller the pieces.

Because I have giant chubby fingers and I'm tired of gluing them together.

I packaged mine up so the wrangler could not see them, but not because I didn't want the wrangler to see them- it's just that they were so tiny and fragile-y put together that I felt I really had to anchor them in packaging. So Sorry, CCB, I would have actually preferred you see them. I think that's one of the most fun things about wrangling (getting to see all the projects).

Did you take pictures beforehand? If so, you could just send them to her.

I've pretty much done the same thing. One thing I'm really glad about is that CCB's shrine only has one mailing to survive. That one has a couple of really delicate pieces in/on it.

purepisces- the colours are amazing and the layering work! Thank you.

So-- I don't know amiyesiam or gemmes, so spill it-- who did what? PS. They both are awesome.

ami - It's so sophisticated! Just beautiful.

ahk - Totally unexpected, and, dare I say, outside the box! ;) You made Zen fun & playful.

ccb - This has a real meditative "feel" to it. I love the stone you included, it has a great energy.

Gemme - Stunning. I love the juxtaposition of the two Buddha faces on the outside. And, great texture on the inside. Such a clever use of the toothpick.

nycfem - Wow! I love it, happy Buddha & hear, see, say no evil Buddha. You always have the best "stuff."

So excited to get my happy hamburgers!!!

ahk- so very creative! Wowza!

purepisces- unexpected colors, purdy burgers!

Ami- fun activity! Way cool!

A little confusion as to which was Gemme's and which was CCB's which may have been due to MY mixing up packaging or something, so I'll guess (I'll assume I'm right unless you tell me I'm wrong- and if I'm wrong, definitely let me know!)!

CCB- "When nice dishes are served on the table, all of us taste them wonderfully", bead pull, sheer perfection! (heart an especially nice touch)

Gemme- The best hamburger pull charm in the entire world!

***
My pref is generally not writing right on the project and instead putting the name on the packaging- kind of keeps the project itself pristine (when applicable).
***
Really exciting that everyone came through! A challenging project and very satisfying!

Well, I figured I should take a few minutes to share the excitement I'm feeling regarding being finished with my contribution to the 1st Summer Project aka recipe-cards-a-go-go or some equally fun name. Better yet, a coworker that works in a different program than me, who happens to be leaving for Florida tomorrow, Sunday, has my cards of deliciousness and plans on mailing them on Tuesday!! WOO HOO!! I'll actually be ahead of the game this year.

Besame, with immense gratitude and respect, thank you for wrangling this project allowing me to participate. Once I figured out what to do with the bits and pieces I picked up along the way, I was quite tickled with the results. I'm so looking forward to receiving my packet of contributions from all others in this project.

On a personal note, I'm done teaching on Tuesday, last day of work is Thursday, leave for my beloved Canada on Friday! Here's to my last week of school! :tea: lolol

what have I been missing, art, swaps, fun packages full of beauty? I miss my art room, I do try and art journal on our dining room table but the amount of supplies I have make it almost impossible.

We are finishing our basement and making an art studio (small but that's fine with me)

I look forward to playing with all of you and exchanging enchanting creativity, I so miss it...

I haven't talked to CCB about it yet but I was thinking-

This is ATC for Christmas l thought it would be cool to have Christmas in July. So for this swap you will make 6 ATCs that has a christmas theme on it. You will have 6 wonderful partners to make a lovely card for. The card can have whatever you want on it as long as it has something to do with christmas, like a tree, stockings, vintage claus, gingerbread, etc.

Size: The ATC must measure 2.5 x 3.5 and have a sturdy (non-flimsy) backing. NO Cards with JUST STICKERS! Use glitter, paint, stamps, embellishments, ribbon, yarn, bling bling or whatever is needed to make your ATC look it’s best.

Write your name, date, swap name (and name of your ATC) on the back of your card.

That is besides the point, usually we say the signups will be starting on such and such a day.
And no, to be really blunt, I don't want to start another group. I would have made sure to have been here to sign up with the people have have been doing this together for 7+ years.

I will wait.

And if I sound ticked off/irritated etc~people can assume the are reading me correctly.

Okay-- I LOVE ATCs. (Artist Trading Cards)

I haven't talked to CCB about it yet but I was thinking-

This is ATC for Christmas l thought it would be cool to have Christmas in July. So for this swap you will make 7 ATCs that has a christmas theme on it. You will have 7 wonderful partners to make a lovely card for.

~~~~~
Sign-up Deadline: July 6, 2015 (Monday)
Date items must be sent by: July 25, 2015 (Saturday)
Number of Swap Partners: 7
Please send 5 dollars along with your cards to help with shipping.
Yay! The recipes are arriving! I received Clay's on Friday. Sis, yours arrived today. And Georgia's will be here soon.
I'm packing them up and taking them with me, when I leave to be with my Mom. It will be a great distraction and conversation topic :)
Psst....Oh Blaze, don't eat Cheetos when writing your recipes out. ;)
Calendar year ban, or Date to dated year? Couldn't find that post.
Tommi, I had thought that didn't apply in this particular case to you, because we didn't decide that rule applied to wranglers until after you had already started the project. I am interested to hear what others think.
Through year end.
Tommi, I had thought that didn't apply in this particular case to you, because we didn't decide that rule applied to wranglers until after you had already started the project. I am interested to hear what others think.
I don't remember that conversation. Below is the rule set at the beginning of the year.
New rule for penpal thread that applies to all group projects:
I think we've experienced a slow down on this thread because folks are reluctant to sign up for projects when we are having some people repeatedly not come through with what they signed up for.
For 2015, the rule is if one of us is more than a week late or drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a project again until 2016. No exceptions. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project.
This is not a punishment but is a way to try and make the group projects something members can trust that we are getting what we signed up for.
This is a new beginning, so we are all starting at the same place :).
Of course you are not under any ban from project participation or wrangling, Tommi. Stop being silly. GeorgiaMa'am is exactly right.
I replied a little quickly, just kind of startled that Tommi thought he was banned- and I do remember the sequence of what occurred exactly as Georgia described. I think because it's a new rule it wasn't crystal clear and we did then clarify it after the Tommi-wrangled project. Also, Tommi you asked about when people who have not followed the rule can join/wrangle projects again, and the answer is 1/1/16. I remember I made it that way, so that individuals didn't each have different dates because that is too hard to keep track of. Currently we have no one who is not allowed to participate in projects.
Here's a general question: Do members want to know either from wrangler or from individuals who receive (because sometimes projects are wrapped) if your/my project arrived damaged? I am not asking this in relation to any specific project but just in general for our projects on this thread. I would definitely like to know! I think people feel bad about offending or embarrassing someone to tell them that something broke or came off or whatever, but I feel the opposite: I'd like to know so that I know for the future what works in the mail and what doesn't. In other words, I find it helpful. It doesn't mean the person gets a new one- it's just for the sake of learning. Thoughts? I know this may be personal to each individual so that's why I was thinking those who might want to share their preference might enjoy doing so on this thread.
Wonderful question! Yes. I do want to know from either/or in this thread! I have some concerns with the ATC's I made. From my shipping point I did ask them to mark " hand cancel" all over envelope. Usually I do that...that way the item is actually hand cancelled...hand stamped and doesn' t go through auto stamp process!
I find unless something is inordinately heavy, first class is always cheapest. It's how I send almost all my boxes and large flat envelopes. I think unless something is heavy, the flat rate boxes usually end up being more expensive. But for heavier packages they are the way to go.
Agreed on all accounts.
Let's finish this project and get it back before delving into a new one.
Mine are going out first thing tomorrow morning, before work.
Speaking of which... ahk gently informed me that my ATCs arrived kinda melted BUT ahk has remedied them enough such that I don't have to stay up all night tonight making new ones. Thanks, ahk :fireman:. Damn heat and lack of smart packaging by me :blush:
Here's a general question: Do members want to know either from wrangler or from individuals who receive (because sometimes projects are wrapped) if your/my project arrived damaged? I am not asking this in relation to any specific project but just in general for our projects on this thread. I would definitely like to know! I think people feel bad about offending or embarrassing someone to tell them that something broke or came off or whatever, but I feel the opposite: I'd like to know so that I know for the future what works in the mail and what doesn't. In other words, I find it helpful. It doesn't mean the person gets a new one- it's just for the sake of learning. Thoughts? I know this may be personal to each individual so that's why I was thinking those who might want to share their preference might enjoy doing so on this thread.
Hey hey hey....summer Mosaic project!
I wanted to throw out a couple of ideas, and it looks like a mosaic project is just what we need! I think I posted that a week ago. I think everyone saw that I was going to plan another go round. Soooo, officially, I will post for sign ups on Monday, along with project directions. I won't limit crafters. I do have an idea for quantity of projects being made, but I'll detail that after sign ups close.
So starting Monday, July 27 thru the 31st, sign up for summer Mosaics! I think a week is plenty of time to decide if you can fit this into your crafting life :)
I don't like the word 'banned'. Perhaps 'restricted'?
Mine went out before 9am this morning. It was brought to my attention that my pieces looked a little big. I started with pre-cut cards that measured 2x3 and just gave a smidge more on the sides and top but I didn't measure it out so they may, indeed, be a teensy weensy bit bigger than 2.5x3.5.
They are cute (I've received outside confirmation of this) if that helps.
CCB, there's still hope! If you can get to a post office before midnight, it will still technically be the 25th. You can print the postage online and drop the box off at the post office without it having to be open. If it's the work part of it that you are struggling with, please know that I procrastinated the Hell out of this project (sorry, ahk!) and did the bulk of the work in the last 24 hours. I haven't had much sleep and I sprained my foot/ankle yesterday so I'm ornery as a startled porcupine but it's done. You can do it!
I would like to mention the upcoming project. I love Besame's idea but c'mon y'all. We're doing project on top of project with no breather and even two at once. Am I the only one who'd like to receive the current project before delving into a new one?
Also, Besame just wrangled a round. I totally love the mosaic idea and am down for it, but going forward.....I vote for adding some diversity to the bunch and not having the same wrangler do two in a row. Or at least do a headcount to see if anyone else has an idea too. Sharing is caring 'n all.
I don't have a printer, or someone in the immediate vicinity with one, so printing postage is not an option. My cards have been done for a few days so it's not that. I would love to wrangle one.. however is seems rather costly and counter productive for everyone to send to me internationally and then for me to send back again internationally. I am okay with wrangler going a double round as long as all who want a turn get the opportunity to do so, there is also the option of the next wrangler throwing their name out to be next project lead with their top secret project thoughts kept till reveal day.
I love the paper mosaic idea.. wanting to get it started while I am on days off :)
Besame, your project is a good one. It's interesting and will give us lots of leeway to let our creative juices flow. The problem isn't with the project or your ideas or creativity. Those are all great.
BUT
You didn't ask if anyone else had an idea before steamrolling ahead. No one offered either. Not sure if that was because of the immediate push or if no one has another idea right now. It could be either. It's fair to give all who might be interested a shot at wrangling and at least ask to see who is interested in doing it. The only consideration I remember us having was that in order for someone to wrangle, they should have (successfully) participated in one or two rounds beforehand.
AND
We've already discussed some time ago about not pushing the projects so close together. It's not a new topic I'm bringing up. What you and I do at home does not translate the same way online. Multiple projects clutter the thread and confuse new people.
Again, these are not new ideas I'm bringing up. These were discussed previously.
It's like double dutch.
wI46rsQR83k
We have to start slow before gaining momentum and then slow again at the end. Start slow, get the project in and relax before the new one. If memory serves me right, I think it was discussed a week between sending out the current project and starting a new one.
I've wrangled plenty of rounds since I started this thread, Blaze, and I'm sure I'll wrangle more in the future. I have no problem with Besame wrangling IF there was an opportunity for anyone else to get a word in before the talk of the new one. There wasn't. My point is that we've already discussed the issues I'm bringing up and they weren't problematic until recently.
BUT
I will say again, my girl is very artistic, crafty and enjoys sharing and caring. she asked and gave many options. Do don't call her out! She was asking everyone to help pick a project.
AND
There are some that are interested, and gave back their kind and happy feed back to what they wanted.
SO
I'm just saying... be nice, my girl is very nice and likes to craft. With respect to everyone, please don't make it an issue, she doesn't bother anyone.
Yes we are so entitle to our opinions. But sometimes, insult should be kept to one's self.
Blaze, you are totally missing the point and are in protector mode. Not appropriate here. Besame is not being attacked.
If you would re-read my posts, I have said the SAME THING a few times now. NO ONE ELSE was given the opportunity to see if they wanted to do a project. No where did I say it wasn't a good project or that Besame isn't a good crafter. I love her work; it's always detailed and very thoughtful. I still have many of her projects and enjoy them greatly. Besame's work is not in question. I'm not saying to not do the mosaic project either. It's a good project and I am one of those excited about it.
It was also discussed previously to allow more time between projects. This thread has been going for years, since the other site. We've figured out what works and when something needs to be tweaked, we do that. For example, the punctuality rule that we implemented at the beginning of the year. There was a reason for that. Just like there's a reason for the two things I mentioned above and in previous posts.
That's it. It wasn't a personal assault. It was a chance to share the crafting with more people actually, to allow newcomers a chance to comfortably jump in and to allow those that just participated the chance to see the fruit of their labor before having to start on another project.
On a personal note and for the record, you don't get to tell me what to do. Ever. I'm happy to discuss the thread politics and rules and debate with you about why they came into policy and why I'm bringing it up (which I've done a few times tonight) but you don't get to make it personal, because it's not, and you don't get to direct me. That's completely inappropriate.
But I also feel that Gemme if you feel that the project is too soon- don't sign up, wait til another comes forth or if you really like what you passed up- do another.
Another thing, Blaze, if you don't often come into said thread and want a welcome I feel the best way to do so is not by jumping all over someone- take a step back and deep breath. Communication on the net is hard, especially when your trying to protect someone you care for.
Quoted from an earlier message.. For 2015, the rule is if one of us is more than a week late or drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a project again until 2016. No exceptions. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project.
I believe according to the rules.. one day late does not equal a week or more..
I accept your word for that Gemme, since I was not around for those discussions. I just want to mention, since we seem to be discussing it again, that the decision we recently made to allow two different projects to run simultaneously affects this directly. As a reminder, we discussed if it was okay for some of us to do the Summer Recipe Project, since part of the group was already involved in something else. As I recall, it came up partly because there have been a couple of projects lately with participation limited to just a few. Maybe the guidelines should be tweaked a bit more.
I think it was fine for Gemme to tell how she felt based on her understanding and experience and similarly fine for Besame to come in and express that she felt it was a bit harsh and was left feeling hurt. For those who have missed, here are some of the discussions we've had:
1) We've discussed how people should participate in 2-3 recent rounds as members successfully before wrangling. Why? Because it makes members confident that the wrangler is reliable. Why? Because when we haven't done that, we've all sent our stuff to a wrangler and had never received our projects!
2) We've discussed how it helps to give space between projects- to wait until the next is received so that it doesn't confuse new folks, and also because we were having a a problem with projects falling apart because too many were going at once.
3) We've also discussed how it's fine to have simultaneous projects going at once because there's a sense of fun and freedom to have this thread be a place where anyone can start a project anytime, and those not interested simply don't have to sign up. I know this seems contradictory to #2 but it isn't since neither are a set rule, just thoughtful input from participants for all to consider when making decisions on this thread.
As long as we speak to each other respectfully, we are cool here!
Breathless, thanks for going back and doing the research on this! I would have sorely missed CCB's contributions the rest of the year. It would probably be helpful if we, as a group, got back on track and got the list of thread rules in one location and for wranglers to post the whole list along with their round rules. That way, the current crafters have some say in it and everyone's on the same page with what is acceptable and what is not.
We could put the list together over the next few days and then, when it is finalized, Besame could have her sign up for the mosaic project. I think it's safe to say that a lot of people are interested in this project, so we should progress with it.
Does that sound fair to everyone?
I accept your word for that Gemme, since I was not around for those discussions. That was discussed as a group and the rule was made if you participated in one, you could not participate in the other. I think that was a valid rule as the shrines were very time intensive. I have no problem with changes being made AS A GROUP. That's part of the ebb and flow of the thread.
My main points were that:
1. The current project hasn't even been received by the wrangler yet so we should not begin a new project right. this. second.
2. We did not, as a group, agree to who the next wrangler would be. No one asked anyone else.....it wasn't diplomatically done.
I understand as we've been talking-
Thanks, ahk. I totally get your points and thanks for the :tea:
I'm holding firm to not wanting projects to get started until after the current project is mailed out by you. That's something we all discussed previously and I don't see what has changed to affect that. The mosaic project isn't a train. If we wait a few days, it won't leave without us. If anything, it gives people a little more time to get their stuff together for the mosaic sign up.
I think the whole 'if you don't like it, don't participate' is dismissive and feels very 'it's my way or the highway'. It basically bows down to groupthink. None of us are really yes men/women so why should we be here?
I'm saying that we should agree on time lines and projects as a group. In a diplomatic manner where everyone interested has a point of view.
I did ask that every time a new project is posted formally- that the rule about not following through and it's consequences be copy/pasted at the bottom of the post every time. I agree that that is important or else its specifics get forgotten.
It's my understanding re: multiple projects that it's not a rule that one can't participate in multiple projects at once but that the wrangler makes that decision. For instance, I forget who, perhaps CCB, said: If you are in my shrine project you cannot sign up for another project at the same time. It seems reasonable to me that the wrangler can have the power to make this decision.
We don't make these rules to be assholes. It's because we've been burnt in the past. Some people are eager to sign up for everything and then don't follow through. That's why we have these discussions and make rules when it seems they are needed.
I think a list of rules and regulations should be posted for each swapper to be aware of. Show the post every week for new comers to see and for us oldies to recall on. (I'm sure this was done along time ago, but some of us have come back later and some of us are new) But I think as a group we should all put something together, don't you think? And we should have an updated list of folks who are considered flakers (known as folks who don't send projects out or drop out at the last minute) as this should be posted to.
I don't like the idea of a list, either. We all get a clean slate on Jan. 1 every year.
The wranglers need some way of knowing who's on restriction, though, unless we're going to use the honor system. I would be okay with that; we seem to have pretty honorable folks here.
1) We've discussed how people should participate in 2-3 recent rounds as members successfully before wrangling. Why? Because it makes members confident that the wrangler is reliable. Why? Because when we haven't done that, we've all sent our stuff to a wrangler and had never received our projects!
2) We've discussed how it helps to give space between projects- to wait until the next is received so that it doesn't confuse new folks, and also because we were having a a problem with projects falling apart because too many were going at once.
3) We've also discussed how it's fine to have simultaneous projects going at once because there's a sense of fun and freedom to have this thread be a place where anyone* can start a project anytime**.
*that is eligible to wrangle (see #1)
**allowing at least a week between the end the current project and start of new projects---time for the current wrangler to receive, repackage and send out the current project
4) If one of us is more than a week late or drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a project again until 2016 (or the 1st of the next calendar year). No exceptions. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project.
I would like make sure that this last rule is adhered to BY ALL. Wranglers have the most work and we count on them the most, so they have to be held to the same standards that the rest of us are if not more so. Nyc was VERY fair when she suggested this rule. One week is plenty of time, even when running behind, to get the project to the wrangler or, if the wrangler is running behind a week is enough time to still get the projects out in a timely manner.
It's all about respecting one another. Each of us puts aside part of our personal time, away from family and work and other commitments, to participate in these projects. We are all signing up for these rounds assuming the next person is going to take this as seriously as we do and is as committed as the rest of us are. Yes, we have fun. That's the goal.
But when someone blatantly abuses the system and then flashes their pearly whites or flits their eyelashes or says 'my bad' or whatever they do to get out of it, it is disrespectful to all of those who have worked hard on their projects and abided by the rules. That's the core reason we started to formulate procedures and rules for the projects. That's why everything you buy in a store has a list of things that can't or shouldn't do with that item....because someone did something they shouldn't have.
These are just a few things I copied from this page alone. I think they are reasonable and fair to all. If we all pitch in some ideas and get them done nicely (nicer than what I have here...this is just for conversational purposes) then we will all be on the same page and it should be smooth running for Besame's and other future projects.
I'm almost with you with the clean slate every January 1st thing. There are people who, in the past, repeatedly.....I mean 6, 7, 8 times.....signed up for and then dropped out of projects or were late or just never sent a project in.
I think, if one of them were to come back, that we should take it case by case.
Of course, those folks aren't really here right now so it's not an immediate concern but it would be nice to have some groundwork in case they do come back and want to participate.
The wranglers post when they receive projects so we'll know if someone doesn't send theirs in but the honor system would definitely be in play.
I hate the turn that the thread seems to have taken over the last few days, but am sure we'll find our friendly, creative footing soon. A roomful of artsy people is bound to have lots of different, sometimes conflicting ideas of how to do things.
I am relieved that CCB is not going to be banned for missing the deadline by one day, that seems excessively harsh to me. But, I also have my concerns that the "not dropping out, no exceptions" rule.
I feel health emergencies, car accidents, death in the family, etc., should be considered for an exception. However, I realize that I haven't participated in this thread as long as many others here who have probably seen the sympathy of the group taken advantage of again and again. So, I abide by the rules of the majority because I love the projects we do and I feel connected to you all, and appreciate the parts of YOU that you share with me through your art.
I have been ready for a new project for the last couple weeks and would have no problem with starting a sign-up for the next project once we know all project have been mailed to the wrangler on the last project. But, again, am happy to go along with the majority, if they prefer to wait until after the last project has been mailed out.
I hope that Besame will be wrangling the paper mosaic project next. I'm excited to give it a try.
Also, Clay, happy belated birthday!!!
And, Tommi, good to see you ... I've missed you in the thread.
I added the part about wranglers, not just participants. Please keep this paragraph attached to the bottom of all projects:
"For 2015, the rule is if one of us is more than a week late or drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2016. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."
Also, let's not use the word banned. Someone suggested restricted, and that feels a lot better. Even if someone doesn't come through on a project they are still welcome to do one on one exchanges and to post on the thread until they can join in again on group projects come the New Year.
For all our heated discussion, on the bright side we have had such an improvement in people following through with the new rule! We do not have a single person restricted at this time. Hopefully I'm not jinxing that by noting this, lol.
Hi Besame -
I have a question. I highlighted the above where you gave a roundabout number as to the number of participants.
Are you limiting this sign up to 5? I was thinking about signing up. Also, Gemme is wondering as well (her internet is down and will not be back up until Thursday)... so I am asking for both of us as to clarification on this. Given 3 people have already signed up..she would miss the sign up. (unless of course you are not limiting it to the 5).
If you could let me know that would be great.
Thanks
Tierney
Hey, guys & gals -- I think we can add something to the top of this thread, too that has the disclaimer if you're interested. It seems like we have done that for other threads. Let Jennifer know if you collectively want to do that and then we'll make that happen. That way it's right up front what the rules are and you don't have to dig them out every time.
Happy Crafting!
Christmas in July ATCs Update:
Okay-- I have received all the ATCs. I have received a few cards from people and the cards weren't put together very well and I'm having to put them back together the best I can. Thank you to Gemme for sending pictures so I can see what needed to be done.
I would suggest in the future, to make sure you glue stickers down because depending where you live it doesn't always make it when it arrives to a new place of living. Also, individual wrapping of cards helps, A LOT.
I will be sending them out in the beginning of next week -- and will let everyone know.
Thank you everyone again for participating!!
scor tape is double sided tape that has a paper backing. I learned about it at a scrap book store. It comes in different widths. What I love about it is that it can be torn into the right size piece. Or you can cut it. It holds really well and I use it a lot.
In the original post it said there would be a minimum # of 3 with a maximum # of 5 "pieces".....which I took as meaning the number of mosaics we would do for each participant.....once signups are done, the collective group would decide the exact number of mosaics each would do....
There was also a 2 starred (**) statement that wrangler was not limiting participants.
There was also a statement saying that if 10 sign up, she felt it would be too time consuming for each participant to make 10 mosaics....and I agree that would be time consuming......and I didn't take that as limiting participants rather giving an example of making 10 would be too much..that would equate to me making 100...lol...ain't gonna happen....for me, 3 is a good number, but will see what collective group decides...with input from all....
With that it is "my" understanding everyone who signs up will be participating.....and the collective group decides exact number each one will do.....I am so excited...looks like we have a great group of participants......:sunglass:.
Yanno, if 10 people sign up we can make 10 mosaics. The production time can just be extended.
yay, you signed up!
I'm glad to see the excitement surrounding this mosaic project! I was concerned with having unlimited participants that we might be over whelmed with making so many pieces. As my original post:
"After sign ups , we can discuss how many pieces we will make. If 10 sign-up, I feel that making 10 would be too time consuming. We can discuss the making up to 5, or as a group we can decide if we want to make 10. That is open for discussion after sign ups are closed"
Signs ups end, Aug 2, Sunday.
Looks like we have opened up the discussion sooner! And it sounds like we want to make ONE per participant. I'm liking that idea, I'm in crafting mode! So many ideas, so many new techniques I want to try!!
Thank you Amy, for that great tip! I hang out in other parts of the craft world more often, and I have been looking for an easier way to creat lace tape! just saying, not all glue sticks are the same. Stay away from the dollar store glue sticks!
Clay, no worries, there will not be 100 mosaics in this wrangle! your so cute...:)
Summer Mosaic Project
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/14/2a/98/142a9837027a638f3eda5f5be6c77eb7.jpg
mosaic; the art of creating images by using small colored pieces
Get your creating minds a working! This project will surely be fun! Design something that is 90% paper and 10% of a material of your choice. Paper can be, paint chips, craft paper, recycled paper, etc. Your extra material might be; buttons, beads, string, yarn,fabrics, charm, etc. Just be mindful of the weight of your extra, could cause extra postage.
Your end project should be at least 3" x 5", but no bigger than 5"x6". It can be in any shape, but must be flat. You will need to work a "sun" into it some how. This is the summer project! The sun can be something tiny or a main focal point. Your pieces can all be the same or all different.
After sign ups are closed, we can discuss how many pieces we will make. ** will be a min of three with a possibility of 5, for those who want to start :)
I ask that after you complete your little piece of art work, that you sign and date it somehow!
Open sign-ups, start now, thru Aug 2nd.
Construction of your art, Aug 3 thru Aug 20
Mail by Aug 21, $5.00 for postage
Turn around after all have been received, 4 days.
If you need ideas, Google , paper mosaics or check Pinterest .
"For 2015, the rule is if one of us is more than a week late or drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until January 1st, 2016. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. This rule must be posted at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."
Sign ups are over, let the gluing begin! Looks like we have 7 crafters. And most of us have suggested we make one for each. So, refer back to the above guidelines. Any shape as long as it fits with in the size perimeter. 90% paper, and 10% of a different material. It's a summer project, please place a sun somewhere on your project. Can be itty bitty or your whole theme. We should be finished by 20th, to get them in the mail by the 21th. I'll send out my address in about 10 days. You know the sooner the better!
Have fun, and try out new techniques and products!
Thank you for signing up :)
I have seen them and thought about them. A lot of positive reveiws about them. Maybe for Christmas! If you get them let me know what you think of them.
I went with posca paint pens last time I got supplies. I LOVE them.
