I added you to the list!!! I'm fine with doing a general reprieve and letting everyone join in. How does everyone else feel about that? The artists currently on hold are:

ARTISTS ON HOLD
Orema till 6/30/2023
CCB till 7/23/2023
FireSignFemme till 7/24/2023
Soft Silver till 08/28/2023

Given that everyone on that list would be off that list either during or right after this project, I say let everyone come play. What does everyone think?

I am in favor!

It's time for the new project! The theme is NATURE. Interpret that however you like.
Animals? :frog:
Trees? :farmtree:
Waterways? :shark:
Fishies? :fishswim:
Birds? :cluck:
All of it is good, and anything else you can think of that fits the theme.

Size range is 5x5 up to 8.5x11. Keep it relatively flat, think no fatter than puffy stickers, or fabric. Use any medium you want. Paint, collage, fabric art, embroidery, drawing, do whatever you are inspired to do. Contain your glitter in some fashion, please. Send $10 with your projects for shipping.

Sign ups open right now, and close in one week, by the end of the day on 6/27/23.
Projects due on 7/25/23, and late if not here by the end of the day on 8/1/23.

I can let CCB and Orema know. Can anyone let Firesign and softsilver know? If anyone is not OK with this plan of a reprieve for everyone at this point so that everyone can start fresh again please post by the end of tomorrow.

I've removed Clay from the list, due to health issues. Please get better soon Clay, and come back and play with us!
I've also added ottergirl, who is a dear friend of mine out in the real world, and wants to join us for this project. She is joining the Planet this afternoon under that name, but I'm adding her to make sure she gets on the list. That means there are seven people participating. Please make 6 projects. They are due on 7/25/23, and late if not here by the end of the day on 8/1/23. I will send my address to each of you in the next few days. I am so excited to see what you all create.

I’m at the airport waiting for a flight to Minneapolis…found out this morning I’m needed at home to help with my parents. I’ve never booked a flight and left the same day, whew.
Anyway, all my projects are still in Mississippi and I couldn’t bring all the supplies with me.
I have no idea when I’ll be home to finish them. I only booked a one way ticket because I might be moving them into assisted living.
My dad is in the hospital with diabetes issues and my mom has dementia. My dad might have brain damage from extremely high blood sugars for too long.

So…I’m asking for a pardon on this project if I don’t get mine in on time. I’m so sorry.

Nanners, I'm so sorry to hear about your parents. I'm dealing with some similar issues with mine, so I have some experience with it all. Please reach out if you need support or want to vent. I think this kind of thing is exactly what a pardon is for.

I'd love to send you what ever people send that was meant for you, if everyone else agrees to that. I think you could probably use something to bring you a smile. Take good care of yourself while you take care of your parents.

Please don't send your projects until August 1st, and they will be late August 8th. Max has covid and I'm getting it, and I don't want to risk any germs on the projects. I already have Clay's, but they were put away in my craft closet before we started getting sick, and I will not take them out until we both test negative. I also will not work on my projects until we both test negative. If anyone has already mailed them, I won't open them and I'll just put the whole envelope in a zippy bag and not open it until we're in the clear. Thanks for your understanding.

I have to be especially careful as my immune system is severely compromised!

Sad to hear you both are sick!!! Feel better soon!!! Hugs ya both

I am more than okay with getting projects at a later date.

I would offer to co-wrangle for you, BUT I will be in hospital 1st week of August and don't want to make hiccups for participants!

I got back to Mississippi on Aug 1 emotionally, mentally and physically exhausted after caring for my parents for 18 days in MN. Dementia SUCKS!

For Nanners and Ottergirl, would it work for you to send projects to us directly? Even though, for very understandable reasons, they would be late it would be great to continue the spirit of exchange for those who signed up and whose projects you will receive.

YES! I’d love that. I had started them, and as soon as I’m feeling better from the virus I have I’ll continue working on them. Nina, could you PM me everyone’s address? Thank you.

I'm going to the post office today. I heard from ottergirl and she said she'd love an extension. Does that change how you feel about her getting her project? You'll still all be getting one back, because CCB's never came.

I did! I also sent nycfem's to otter and nanners. I sent CCB's back to everyone. I think I sent one from Besame to nanners, but not otter or CCB. If you don't get your package by end of day Saturday, please let me know so I can give you your tracking number, unless you just want me to send it now, and I'll do that.
I loved wrangling this project. It's been a hard summer and this gave me something fun, bright, and hopeful to do. I really loved what you all did. Thank you so much.

What should we do next? I'd wrangle again unless someone else has a burning desire to be next. What are people interested in? Clay suggested a wax resist project. What else? What theme?

Regarding the naughty list, I think that nanners and otter don't go on it. CCB does, unless she can send me that tracking number, if that feels fair to everyone.

Nina, this was a great project. Thank you so much for wrangling and to everyone for the beautiful art! I love how each persons approach is so different!

In regard to the naughty list, I had an idea. We had 3 people whose projects didn’t come: Nanners, Ottergirl, and CCB. All 3 of them were in contact with Nina to explain what happened. It’s now August 20th. If we each receive a project from them that they mail to each of us individually by the end of September, then I am OK with all three of them not being on the naughty list (Otherwise, I think that all 3 of them should be on the naughty list out of fairness.). Would that be OK with everyone?

What we had talked about previously was the idea of giving people who had challenging life events grace regarding the naughty list. Having to go care for seriously ill parents (nanners) or spouse (otter) is simply not the same thing as saying it was lost in the mail, then refusing to provide the tracking number (CCB). I asked for CCB to provide a tracking number to prove that it was actually mailed. No such number was provided and she ignored my message asking for it.

Two of those people had circumstances beyond their control, and one of those people did not, or if she did she didn't say anything about it.
I would say that nanners and otter shouldn't be on the naughty list regardless, and CCB can get herself off of it by completing and mailing her projects, or at the very least providing proof that she mailed something to my address when she said she did.

Hi Nina, CCB has been in this group for 20 years and several of us know her very well in person. She is a close in person friend of mine and an artist. She does not lie. She doesn’t go on the site every day and when she went on the site and saw your message she was about to send the tracking number but then saw that you had written that post. The reason that we came up with this rule years ago is because we had various stories from people about why they didn’t get it done, and the rule takes away judging who has a sad enough story and whose story is not worthy or not true. It made it very easy for us, and it really improved how many people completed each project! If your project doesn’t come in time, then you’re out for six months. Possibly a solution would be to change the rule to three months if it feels too harsh but I think we need an objective rule. If you don’t turn it in you don’t turn it in and you’re on the list!

Normally, we do not send the cards if someone has not turned in their project. Their cards go back to them and they can send them out individually if they want but anyone who does not turn it in before the end of the one week grace period does go on the list. We do not ask for proof of family illness etc. It keeps things consistent and has really improved follow through over the years.

I would say that nanners and otter shouldn't be on the naughty list regardless

All I said was that she can send the tracking number and I would consider that the same as any other situation beyond her control. I didn't say that she lied, only that I asked for tracking twice and never received it.
This is turning into an argument when it doesn't need to be. If you need people to go on a time out list, then so be it. I thought Clay said it was three months not six.

Hi Nina,

My apologies if I came on strong. I know you have wonderful intentions but what we were finding is that when we excused people and just made the projects donation to them if they told us a life crisis was going on and that they were not going to send out their cards is that often the same people had that happen pretty regularly. Therefore, it felt uncomfortable to be working hard on projects and receiving minimal return. It really is not a punishment. Like we have written in the past: “artists on hold.” We do understand things happen, which is why we came up with the one week grace period which felt reasonable.

Here is the rule (using this project as an example). We were all used to it so we stopped explicitly posting it but we do have new members join which is wonderful and we really should go back to posting it with each project so it’s not confusing for people.

Changing Seasons Project

Those who love fall can lean into that and those who are excited about winter can go wild with all the crazy delights that winter brings.

Parameters:

must not be any larger than 5x7 but can be any size smaller
must be able to lay (lie?) flat (aka no embellishments that stick up off the piece)
can be anything (store purchased card, homemade ATC, an index card with charcoal sketches or crayon scribbles, et cetera) that is your interpretation of what the theme means to you
can be literal or abstract, light or dark, funny or serious
on the back of each piece, please have the project name, your screen name and if you want it to go to a particular person, that's person's screen name...pieces with no specific recipient listed will be assigned by the wrangler after a rousing game of Eeny, Meeny, Miney and Mo.

With 9 sign ups, you need to send me 8, unless you want one of yours back and then you will send 9 in this example.

Each participant will also include $5 for postage and repackaging materials.

Deadline for sign up: 10/24
Deadline for receipt of projects (NOT the deadline for mailing them out...I need to RECEIVE them by this date): 11/12
Deadline for me to re-mail the projects out: 11/16

Projects are officially late if they do not arrive via USPS, UPS or FedEx by 5pm EST on November 12th. It's a Saturday. Once the deadline for sign up ends, I will get the address to send the pieces to all of the participants. Please keep in mind that November 11th is election day and that may affect delivery services in some areas.

Some things to consider....not everyone loves glitter. If you have glitter on your piece, please make sure it's sealed so it doesn't get loose and attack. Also, if the pieces are created in a smoking environment, some of our crafters are sensitive to smoke. I will air out what I can, and all pieces will be dusted with Lysol but please be considerate and try to not send strongly scented pieces out.

Due to inconsistencies with life, unexpected events and sometimes just the carelessness of some of the participants, we had to draft rules to ensure there would be consequences for those who seem to drop the ball with getting their projects completed and/or received in time, which can be hurtful for those who put effort into their work and got their things in on time. This isn't a work or school environment but a deadline is a deadline and a promise is still a promise and putting your name on the is a promise to all of the other participants that you will participate fully.

RULES AS AGREED UPON TO BE ADDED AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT:
"The rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2022. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2023. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2022 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/22. I can start participating in new projects on 8/21/22. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/22, able to participate 7/28/22)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/22, able to participate 8/21/22)'

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Also to add, if we want to consider amending the rule for the future to be three months instead of six months then that’s OK with me as long as it’s applied to everyone and does not involve evaluating individual circumstances, since we really do not know what is true or untrue, and some people also do not care to share their personal business, and should not be penalized for that. If a project does not arrive within a week of the due date then that person is on hold for the amount of time stated, in the rule and their projects are sent back to the participants who made them - period. For FUTURE projects do people want to keep it at six months or consider changing it to three or four months? Thoughts from group members?

I would like it to be 3 months. NYCfem, you are correct about this way being non-judgemental, it doesn't matter what happens. it's straight forward.

For this project, and this one only then, can I still send mine out to the individuals they are made (or will be made for)?

Can I still participate in the next project?

Why don’t we start fresh with the next project and take a deep breath and let everything go! No one on the “on hold” list and just start from scratch
and attach the rule at the end of the next project. I am sorry for my role in everything. This group is one of the most meaningful aspects of my adult life where I so rarely make time for anything personal and creative. Lots of love to you all!

Also, one of our members who had nothing to do with this project contacted me and requested that we not call it the time out list or the naughty list. Even though that is sometimes said playfully it was also starting to feel quite uncomfortable to me as well. Let’s stick with artists on hold and let’s also remember that even if someone is on hold from participating in projects, they are still welcome to chat with us on the thread! Life happens, and I’m sure we will all be on hold at some point if we haven’t already, but that doesn’t mean we are not still an important part of the group!

This is true, it does make it easier for all of us when we don't have to decide who has a more worthy excuse.

For my part, I am in favor of the rule. I think 4 months would be adequate, but if everyone wants to stick with 6 I am fine with that. As nycfem said, we have had much better follow-through from people who sign up since we started the rule (myself included). I don't like getting back projects that I made for someone else. I do remember at least one time when we sent somebody on the on-hold list their projects anyway, as a kindness, for what that is worth.

I'm not wanting to stir up any trouble here, just throwing in my .02. We have a great group, I love working on projects with you all and seeing your efforts. Let's all agree on something, even if that means rewriting the rule, and keep the good crafty vibes going.

I have covid, first time ever! I am STILL positive a week later. My case was so much worse than my wife's case.

It got me to thinking, with covid's latest variant eris, rampant all over the place, esp here in Fla. that I am most likely not going to participate in any projects for a bit. I DO NOT want to risk infecting anyone nor getting reinfected. As careful as I was, still I contracted it.

I will participate in discussions, but I just can't risk it. I have a virtual with my pulmonologist soon as she is VERY concerned about me. It has settled down into my chest & my head, am so congested.

While I know everyone would also be careful, I just can't risk this at this time. I know you will all understand.

An example of a Twinchie.

Inchies are one inch by one inch squares of paper (or fiber) that contain small art, collaged or hand-drawn.

Betwinchies are the same concept as an inchie only it is a 1 1/2 inch square.

Twinchies — are the same concept as an inchie only it is 2 inches squared.

Rinchies — are the same concept as an inchie only it is a circle of one inch diameter. A 1 inch circle punch works well.

Rolo (Art) — altering, redecorating a Rolodex card that fits on a flat file type Rolodex or the circular one. (Find a used one at a consignment shop, yard sale, refill cards are available — new ones can be found at office supplie stores or WalMart).

It's time for another project my friends!

You can choose from the following:

Inchies are one inch by one inch squares of paper (or fiber) that contain small art, collaged or hand-drawn.

Betwinchies are the same concept as an inchie only it is a 1 1/2 inch square.

Twinchies are the same concept as an inchie only it is 2 inches squared.

Parameters:

*The theme can be Halloween, Fall, or anything else of your choosing.
*Please make them relatively flat, like no thicker than a puffy sticker.
*Send $10 to wrangler with your project.
*If you choose to use any kind of glitter, it must be contained (such as in a baggie).
*On the back of each piece please add: Project name, wrangler, artist and who it's for.

Sign up will be Today through Friday, 9-8-23.
Due date is 10-06-2023, and to me by 10-13-2023 or you will go on the hold list for 4? months.

Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2023 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/23. I can start participating in new projects on 8/21/23. I have added myself to the list below:

1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/23, able to participate 5/28/23)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/21/23, able to participate 6/21/23)

This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Due date is 10-06-2023, and to me by 10-13-2023 or you will go on the hold list for 4? months.

Hi Everyone, I think we need to settle the question of how long someone must be on the "artist on hold" list before we go any farther, definitely before we get to the sign-up deadline this Friday, 9/8/23. I vote for 4 months. Nanners has used 4 months. As I recall, clay voted for 6 months. What do the rest of you say?

If we do keep it as 4 months, "8/21/23" in the above paragraph needs to be changed to "6/21/23".

I agree, so let's take a vote.

Stay at 6 months

Change to 4 months

My vote is 4 months.

Due date is 10-06-2023, and to me by 10-13-2023 or you will go on the hold list for 4? months.

I will mail out by 10-18-2023.

If this ruling with 4 months for people on the hold list is not acceptable, please let me know and what changes need to be made.
"The rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until four months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting four months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2023.

I haven't been on the site in a couple of weeks and look what I missed. :seeingstars:

We're all artistic in our own ways and artist types are enthusiastic about our craft. When someone doesn't come through for us and we came through for them, it's personal.

4 months for each artist in the waiting room, done. Majority rules. Everyone starts fresh now, done. I received nanner's piece, so good!

Have I missed anything? Oh, Georgia! You put whatevah you want on those teeny tiny bits of paper/canvas/etc.

*On the back of each piece please add: Project name, wrangler, artist and who it's for.

Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2023 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/21/23. I can start participating in new projects on 6/21/23. I have added myself to the list below:

Christmas ATCs would be great! I am not sure I'm a fan of the Thanksgiving idea, though, I'm not sure we have enough time to finish it and get the finished projects before the holiday.

Should we consider making it a "winter holiday" ATC? Not everybody celebrates Christmas.

Great suggestion. I am open to suggestions from all you nifty, crafty peeps!

One suggestion is : "winter holiday theme".....so everyone can participate..... maybe do a recipe of a favorite holiday dish....
and "thanksgiving themed one" with "gratitude as the theme.

As I did last year, these could even be "due" after first of year? Just a thought tickler!

Basically, small works of art. Not too taxing in terms of time and they can get away with not being too detailed out and still look great.

Winter theme as an overall theme is great but what if we throw (most of) the rules out the door and make it a pot luck project? Once the theme and size is chosen, allow each participant to 'show up' with their choice of medium/style/etc?

This current project was pimped as a fall/Halloween project. Thanksgiving falls in there for me so I'm not too keen on strictly a Turkey/Tofurkey Day theme.

Count me in!

Does this site still do Christmas card exchange?

Not an official one but you are welcome to exchange with anyone you'd like or set up a thread for one yourself.

nanners, you should get my envelope tomorrow. If you don't, I can send the tracking number. Please send the one you choose for CCB back to me.

Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2023 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:

LOL! Me, too! BUT, I will be in the hospital on the 20th, and since we are all jonesing for a new project, I decided to post this early.....:)...:). I am having to re quote the whole post, it is "cutting off" the bottom part of my OP, after new signees...:).

nanners....did you mail our packages out today? Please text me the tracking#....appreciate it

Yes! They are mailed out! I can provide tracking numbers for anyone who wants them (easier for me by text). You should all get them on Monday!
Great job everyone! Tommi's is a group participation twichie...I have the full picture to post after everyone gets their package.

Question to pose to all!

I have extra money from the $10 y'all sent me. Would anyone be interested in forwading the extra money to the next wranger that has a heavier or larger package to mail in the future? (ie: Clay's might also use less than the usual $10) I have about $25 left and I don't feel right keeping it! But if we all save extra $$ we could do a larger/heavier project sometime.
I will go with whatever the group decides.

P.S. Clay, best wishes for all going well in the hospital...hope you heal fast and get back home soon.

Thanks, nana for wrangling this project. I am so excited to see them, and esp Tommi's now that you piqued my interest!

Thank you for the well wishes!

I will go along with whatever the group wants to go with.....cuz I am easy like Sunday Mornin'!! lol

Hmm, a "group participation twinchie" - I'm intrigued!

I have no opinion about the money, one way or the other. I'll go along with whatever everyone else wants. Oh, I just thought of a suggestion: we could have a "free" project at some point. Just all the wranglers send their extra money to the current wrangler and use that instead of people sending money in for that project. - I also like the idea of a heavier/larger project at some time.

Honestly, I'm strapped for cash so anything that was left over from the postage and purchase of the envelope to send the projects to me, I'd rather have back. My workload has literally doubled so I don't know how many more projects I'll be able to participate in, anyway.

If we're doing the whole participation thing for Tommi's I have a picture of a baseboard heater above hardwood flooring.

When she mails her Winter ATC's to me, she will send each of you who joined the twinchies project, a $4 refund.

To save on shipping costs, I will use this for each of you for the Winter Themed ATC's shipping cost, which is $7....and you can send the other $3 to me with your projects

Will this work? If you did not participate in my ATC project, let me know, and I will send yours to you, and pay for the stamp out of your refunds.....please? Thank you!

Those of you whom had signed up for nanners' last project, and have signed up for this one, your refund from nanners will apply to mailing this ATC project back to you, so only send me $4 IF you did both projects!! Otherwise, mail me $7 with your projects! Thanks.

I finally got started on my ATCs! I thought I would never come up with an idea, but one finally came to me. I'm about a third of the way done.

I am also really wishing my craft room was ready now. I am so tired of being crammed onto a corner of the kitchen table, and having to dig through a giant duffel for my supplies. The main obstacle to getting my craft room ready is moving and getting rid of this giant couch that weighs a ton. Me and all of my friends have such bad physical problems - including just plain old-age complaints - that none of us can move it. I think I'm going to have to call one of those "men and a truck" places.

I have never done this before and I have to, and that I am truly struggling. I have done three different versions, and none of them look right. I keep looking at tutorials, and I am following what they say to do.
I am very frustrated! Some of it is that I don’t have a lot of craft supplies and tools. I got everything that I thought I needed and I have basic things like scissors and glue and spray, etc. No glitter because I know everybody hates glitter. But, it’s still coming out like a third grader has done it.

I’m gonna keep trying…

. . . it’s still coming out like a third grader has done it.

I’m gonna keep trying…

Several of my projects have looked like a third grader did them, and that was okay, because third graders know how to have fun! In fact, this one of mine is kind of third grader-ish. I'm okay with that.

Keep trying until you get something you're happy with, but please remember - it's supposed to be fun! Don't get frustrated - just go with the flow. And enjoy!

Soft.....all of us have felt this exact same frustration at some point in time....it happens. Some of my own projects, I felt, weren't as good as I hoped for, but everyone always likes them.

As Georgia said, just keep trying.....work from your heart......some ideas are use leaves you have to make a collage, or if you have birch trees, use peeling bark to make a snowman or something...

OR handdraw, or trace if you print a pattern of IE a snowflake, a snowman, or some mix of winter themed ideas....print a winter dish recipe & adorn it with pieces of real leaves....

As I have always said, the point is to have fun with it. Just let go & let it flow.......YOU GOT THIS!! my friend!

Well, I’m almost done. I’m waiting for something to arrive in the mail so I can add to it and then I’m mailing them off to Clay.
I’m hoping you guys like them. There’s actually a front and back because I ran out of ATC cards. So when I wanted to start over, I had to use the back of some of them. Lol.
This is been a good learning experience for me and an eye-opener. I used to do crafts all the time. It’s been ages since I have done any. Things that I have learned since the last time I crafted…
1) eyesight is very important. I wasn’t expecting not to have the same vision as I did in the past. This, of course, played a huge part in my skill level. Lol.
2) the correct tools are also very important. After having not use them and them gathering dust, I decided to give them away a while ago. I advise people not to ever do that! I regret not having all the items that I cherished at one time.
3) common sense goes along way, and I should’ve known this, but don’t drink a soda while you’re doing crafts! I’ll leave it to your imagination as to what happened!
4) I think a little bit of dog hair add character to any craft! Just pretend it’s intentional!
5) perseverance is a character trait, that one builds as one continues a project!
6) don’t throw anything away while you’re working on a project. You could unintentionally throw away a significant part of the next card. Just saying…
7) always make more than what you need so you can select the best to give!

Echoing what Georgia and clay said, don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. This is supposed to be fun. Throw some things on the wall and see what sticks kind of fun, basically.

Also, mine always looks like a preschooler did it, so that beats your stinky 3rd grader all day, every day.

Can anyone use a 6" x 24" sewing ruler (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C8BSXPCN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)?

I purchased one at Amazon but decided to return it for a refund. Received the refund, but Amazon told me to keep the ruler. I never opened it, so all I have to do is put an address label on the box and drop it off at the post office. I'll pay for postage.

Please send me a PM if interested. If not, I'll store it in the garage till the first of the year then I'm tossing it out.

I don't like throwing out good items, but I really don't like keeping things I don't need or use.

Edit: On second thought I'll take it to the goodwill if no one wants it.

Hi Crafty Peeps,

I'd like to ask for your help. As most of you know, my Mom has moderate-to-severe dementia. I have been trying to think of memory tasks that we can do with her, so that we don't have to try to think of stuff to talk about all the time we're with her. She also needs tasks that will help her feel useful. She doesn't talk much any more. She can't really learn to do anything new, or do anything that requires mental effort (like playing games, even if she knew how to play them in the past). Unfortunately, she doesn't knit or crochet or anything like that, but she does color. Some ideas I have found online and that I have thought of are:

- clipping coupons from the newspaper;
- rolling out dough and cutting out dog cookies (the dog cookie dough is very dry and sturdy, so I can pack the cookies raw into containers and bake them at my sister's house);
- folding sheets and towels, and baby clothes for her great grandson;
- easy puzzles that can be done in one sitting;
- taking her a "sensations" box - a box of things that engage all five senses: cinnamon sticks or other spices in a tin; lotion that smells good; swatches of various fabrics; a prism; candies and fruit cups; an mp3 player with music she likes and podcasts.
- making her a "memory" box - a box of things that will help her remember her life, such as the clutch she took to her senior prom, Christmas ornaments she made with me and my sister, one of my grandmother's small crocheted pieces, her favorite coffee cup, her high school yearbook, pictures of things that won't fit in the box, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas for other memory activities we could do with her? If you have experience with this, or if any ideas come to you, would you please post them here or send me a PM? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much.

New project! Everyone is welcome, you do NOT need any artistic ability, just be reliable and enthusiastic -that's what we care about!

This project is limited to the first 10 people that sign up.

vi·sion board
noun

a collage of images and words representing a person's wishes or goals, intended to serve as inspiration or motivation.

"on her vision board she put a log cabin, a sailboat, a red car, and a butch femme couple dancing on a white carpet"

This is the first project of 2024, so let’s think about what we want to happen in our lives this year…the project is VISION BOARDS! Wouldn’t it be fun to get like 10 mini vision boards in the mail to inspire us to manifest our vision? Everyone will be making you one piece of art based on your visions. This may even bring new ideas to you, within your vision. So at the end, you will have pieces of art to look at and maybe expand your vision based on others ideas/images/thoughts that they used on the Vision board for you.

For examples Google images for “Vision Board”.

Parameters:

• Can be any size between 4 X 6 and 8.5 X 11

• Sign up starts at 2:00 PM CST 01-01-2024 (Monday) and closes at 7:00 PM CST on 01-08-2024 (Monday) OR when we have 10 signed up!

• You must make one vision board for each participant based on one or more of their visions. It's easier when you focus on only one or two!

• Projects are due to me by Febuary 26th. You have a week grace period but after that, (March 4th) your project is crumpled up and batted around by my cats and you don't get your package of projects that others made you. You also won't be able to participate again for 4 months.

• Include $7 for the wrangler with your project.

• Please, no glitter that is not sealed and nothing thicker than a puffy sticker.

Nanners what if the project was changed to doing only one vision board for one participant and you gave each person who signed up one person to do the vision board for? It might be less daunting to people and I believe there was a time in the past when we did it that way. Since this is big and requires individualization, it might help.

Instead of pairing the same 2 people with each other, you could have each person make their one vision board for someone different than whom they will be receiving a vision board from.

I think that's a great idea!

I will change it up and present the new idea of yours!
I do agree it would have been daunting to many!

I'm so glad people are enthusiastic about continuing with the penpal projects. Unfortunately, I'm feeling pretty down and I need to take a break this time. I'm sure I will do more in the future. But for now, I just can't. I hope everybody has fun with this one! I enjoyed it the last time we did vision boards.

Thanks! I could use some good vibes. My visions for 2024 are:
Brush and floss my teeth every day, eat foods (and avoid bad foods) that will help with my diabetes and CKD (I think that limits me to apples and cauliflower and egg whites - jk), and move more every day (Motion is Lotion!)

Thanks SoftSilver! I'm looking forward to seeing your work.
If yours comes on Thursday I can get them all sent out next Monday.

OK, so I love looking at new postage stamps when I go to the post office and I always think I could create one that would be awesome. My creative mind gets flowing and..... the new project (if everyone wants to try this) could be to make our own postage stamps.

1. Does anyone want to try this?
2. What would you like the paramters to be? (I'm thinking much larger than a normal postage stamp, because some of us would have a very difficult time doing something that tiny. My eyes aren't what they used to be!)
3. Should do 1 or a series of 4 on same page?
4. Feel free to make any suggestions, comments, or tell me I'm crazy...LOL!

And by the way, has anyone heard from Gemme? She hasn't been on here since 1-11-24 and I'm worried about her.

Hey nan! I love this idea, too! I am thinking maybe something like 6 x 8 OR 5x7.....maybe 3 stamps on either size? I THINK that might be big enough for me to do...LOL.

I have not received a vision board. I don’t know if it’s lost in the mail or it got delivered to a wrong address. Was there a tracking number?

OK, so I love looking at new postage stamps when I go to the post office and I always think I could create one that would be awesome. My creative mind gets flowing and..... the new project (if everyone wants to try this) could be to make our own postage stamps.

1. Does anyone want to try this?
2. What would you like the parameters to be? (I'm thinking much larger than a normal postage stamp, because some of us would have a very difficult time doing something that tiny. My eyes aren't what they used to be!)
3. Should do 1 or a series of 4 on same page?
4. Feel free to make any suggestions, comments, or tell me I'm crazy...LOL!

And by the way, has anyone heard from Gemme? She hasn't been on here since 1-11-24 and I'm worried about her.

I'm here! lol Just doing that adulting thing by working tons and paying bills and being too tired to do much of anything else anymore.
