So there was a glitch with the original cards that went out to NYCfem-- had to make 10 new cards, and as I was sending those away, I received the package just today. Not sure where it went - but it says 'return to sender' -- who knows. I sent the new cards out today--

Lets hope they make it this time--- :shithappens:

Okie doakie...It's getting close.
Are we ready for a new project. Any idea's. Any wrangler's. :fastdraq:

sis
06-03-2013, 11:13 PM
I'm really not in a position to be the Wrangler but I would love to participate in an exchange that has a much quicker turnaround. (I actually have lived in two countries since Post Secret started and plan on being in another one within a month! lolol)

Anyhow, I LOVED doing an Altoid tin several years ago and wouldn't mind doing another one. OR, if we chose to share ANY craft project, I could see myself crocheting a small blanket. I know, I know, perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but my not all projects are my cup of tea either. With summer coming, perhaps doing a single item and passing it along would be less intense/stressful than doing 10 items. Thoughts???

Yes for quicker turnaround time in the future. Or at least be willing to start another project even if the last isn't complete. I do remember it got a bit sticky at one point, though. I don't know what a good solution would be.

I do have an idea for a future project. What if each of us wrote a letter to our future self and then send it sealed in a pre-paid envelope to the wrangler of the project. Then, a certain amount of time later (6 months?), the wrangler can send the letter back to each person who has participated?

Sign ups. Closed date. send date.

I'm Ready...
.Hmm. I can't do quiting, or crochet. I send my shirts to the cleaners for buttons. Writing a letter, then waiting 6 months makes me twitch.., but I could do it...:)

laruss
06-04-2013, 01:10 PM
I would be in on the letter one and then we aren't waiting on people. Whoever sends them gets them back. No issues.

I would like to wrangle one as I have an idea I have been holding onto for months, but I was not in the position to wrangle it in January. Now I am ready. Let me know when I can take a turn.

So I am in and I am ready. :)

Okay...

I do miniature watercolours and I got the idea from the Artist Trading Cards.
I would like us to do Artist Trading Cards with at least 2 mediums, mixed media style. That can mean 2 different types of paint, or embellish it with stones, glass, cut outs, photos, markers. The possibilities are endless.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards This is What Wiki says about the ATC's.

Here are some ideas. http://www.atcsforall.com/ there are no end of possibilities. You can search them out on the Internet or just make up your own.

They are 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" in size and you can buy them precut in every type of paper or you can cut your own.

We will take the first 12 people who want to join us.

This is a great project for me to wrangle as I have to send them out from Canada and our postage is much higher so this will be an inexpensive project.

If you are in please sign up and I will send you my address to send them to.

Deadline of July 11. You will only need to include $2 (and American is fine) in your envelope as they won't be to bad to send out. Unless you add heavy items to your cards, in which case $5-$10 would be appreciated.

I am looking forward to everyone's creativity.

This sounds interesting! I've added those that said something so far, but I have a question. Maybe I'm missing something but how does higher postage make for a less expensive project? I would think it would be more so, no?

*confused*

I'm in either way, though.

The A.T.C. sounds very interesting to me! However, I've checked out several sites and I'm finding that most cards are 'flat', really 'flat'. I'm thinking that I might have a little bit of depth to the idea I have. Also, would it be okay to make the same card design 12 times?

Because it is such a small project the postage will be less even though Canada has more expensive postage. it will only cost me about $1-$2 postage to send them back out to everyone because it will just be an envelope.

Clear as mud now??

Ok, I'm in ...... I'll be working on my 'stuff' over the next few weeks and bring it from China (this gives a whole new meaning to 'Made in China'!). I arrive in Winnipeg on July 4th but won't be coherent enough to get to the post office until the following Monday(its a time change thang! lolol). The up side is that I will be able to receive my goodies while I'm in Canada providing they arrive before August 15th! And, yes, I will send extra postage.

I'm sorry I had a private message that beat your post in.

Let's do a quick poll.
This is a small project, would others be willing to do a few more, 3 so Katniss, deb and pixie could join?

or should we do the 11 + 1 for the raffle and leave it at that.
Please weigh in, this seems to be a popular one.

It's sweet of you to want to include us but I certainly understand that more than 12 may be onerous. If the original group decides not to include us 3 latecomers I am wondering if we could have a second group of 6-12 folks? I haven't done one of these before so not sure what protocol is on sign-up so it is just a thought. I'll happily acquiesce to the group's decision.

I love them so much I am thinking of doing more and framing them. I already do small watercolours about the size of an ATC and I mount them on a 5 x 7 mat. This might work for these too, I am going to try it.

Ok, you guys are getting me excited! I have my ATCs all cut out and ready and am pretty sure I decided on a theme...yet I can be fickle.

I think it's cool we will be getting so many cards so we can see so many different people's styles. :)

I am aghast. Ours has them (usually hanging because they are small), all our art stores have them as well, but if you can't find them you can cut them to size from any paper. Final size is 2-1/2" x 3-1/2".

I got mine at Hobby Lobby but truth is I ended up only using a few and cutting out my own from card stock and scrapbook paper. But as I said, mine are more "crafty" than "art" as it was a fun project to share with my 10 year old.

I was going to use other cardstock, and I still might do that, but I finally found something that might work. A smidge smaller but if that doesn't work, I'll cut the stuff out. I have tons 'o normal-ish cardstock.

Katniss, I can't go into Hobby Lobby anymore. It's sad because they have such great stuff but they are stringently anti-gay and right wing, so I pass on them.

I want to apologize to Katniss and I hope it has not been a problem for anyone else, the address I gave everyone is a post office box, they do not accept UPS, only post.
Here in Canada we do not use UPS (courier) unless we need something delivered quickly and/or securely. If you are using UPS as opposed to USPS please let me know and I can give you another address. I do not normally give out my home address and my girlfriend would kill me if she knew I was, but just know if you show up on my door step my dogs will eat you. lol

Hi everyone,

ugh! I do not like doing this but I have no choice. Life has really gotten in the way of this project for me.

I am going to have to bow out at this time.

I've got only four cards made thus far and there is so much crazy going on for me right now that I just won't be able to complete the rest in time.

Please forgive me and pardon any inconvenience this has caused. I really hate backing out of things I have given my word on doing. Besides, I was having a lot of fun with it.

Hey, Bleu,

While everyone talks at the beginning about getting them in on time, you were one of three people at most who got the last project in on time! :D I didn't get people's cards for up to three months after the due date (and I'm not just talking a few on the list!). So while I certainly don't advocate for that long a delay, this is a pretty forgiving group when it comes to things being on time. Since you've already made 4 (and a few of us have already made you yours), I hope you will think about staying in the project. Your art is always a pleasure. Would you consider continuing to participate and just taking a few extra weeks?

Bleu, if you agree to stay in, I won't feel so bad, because at this point I was ready to say the same thing you did, but I felt really guilty about it. I don't think min ewill be 3 months late, but I do think they might end up being a month to 6 weeks late. Somehow "Life" snuck up on me...and I've done some scrambling to make money for my trip to the reunion...thus working more than 10 hours days and getting to the point of exhaustion. I know it will be worth it in September, but i also feel like I'm letting a group of friends here down. I am sorry, but mine will be late.

Okay, first off, I am a forgiving person. And, I totally understand that life does get in the way. However, I joined this project based on the date of commitment due to my being able to be in Canada to send and receive said project. I trust the Canadian and American postal system; I do not trust the Chinese postal system. Every package that is sent into China is inspected - anything on the ATCs that are deemed inappropriate will result in the entire package being destroyed. Is there a possibility that there could be some consideration given to the situation I am in? Thoughts?

On a side note, yes, I have participated in ONE project several years ago ..... I did received the Altoid tin and I did contact the sender directly to insure there would be nothing untoward on the tin. The tin arrived in China Post packaging as it had been inspected - some of the décor needed to be reattached due to the inspection.

I know that in the last project I was late, I tried to bow out as my life got a bit crazy. I would love everyone to be able to participate but I don't want sis to not get her package either.

So, lets see what she says and everyone who can, please get them in on time and for those few who may be late hopefully it will be within her timeline.

WOW! Lets see how we can accommodate as many people as possible. My thoughts are ..... I leave on August 16th very early in the morning. I would like to think it would be great to have my packet by August 10th - I want to show them to friends here as they saw the ones I sent. I think that would easily allow a two-week delay in the deadline. However, does this fit with Laruss's schedule as I do believe she has another project after this one and may not have time to send out the packets.

To the best of my recollection, and without going back 10 years....In the recent past, and distant past... I know we closed the date, and if you were late , you did not get the project package, and participants did not get your work. Your piece either returned to you and you sent each one to the participants individually, or along those lines.

I would suggest that we do it this way again. Otherwise, new wranglers, new participants, and new projects can get pushed back two to three months.

I have a few thoughts to add to Tommi's .... first of all, and, possibly due to the previous project going way past its close date, the minute this project was posted IT FILLED UP. I'm thinking that perhaps we need a few days to 'think about' whether or not we really have the time/supplies to do the project. This would involve posting the project and a few days later begin to sign up. I sense that we were all so excited/desperate to participate that we simply signed up.

For me, one of the first considerations were the due dates - they really worked well for me. I wasn't so sure about the actual project but I spent time researching it and thought 'yes I can'.

I eventually picked up the supplies (I bought a couple of sheets of watercolour papers, cheap kids watercolours, a fine-tipped black marker, and embellishments) and let them sit there for two weeks.

Finally, someone posted that they were mailing theirs so I realized I needed to really focus on the ATCs. Truly, 'I went to town' and I was done in one evening including making a few samples to 'get the hang of it' (my cards are VERY simple).

I really like the concept of our wrangled projects ..... it gives those participating a goal, something to look forward to, joy, creative outlet ..... but, it can also become an added pressure as the due date comes around.

Thoughts???

I have set this Sunday aside to do mine. I will have them in the mail unless everyone decides that the July 11th due date is final. I am sorry for my delay. I need to know if people still want them then and how I get them to people. I will go with whatever people decide. I will not sign up again unless I am setting a date to actually do the project and have the supplies. I'm sorry to everyone who is participating for my lateness.

Perhaps I'm being a bit presumptuous here but would it be possible to have a 'roll call' regarding when participants are able to get their ATCs into the mail? I think this would be helpful information for adjusting the due date.

Thought I would share a couple of thoughts on this project as it was the first one I could participate in. When the project was first mentioned I Googled "ATC" and every site stressed these were to be quick/easy/cheap little cards. I did mine plus a few "trials" in one afternoon and as Sis said the supplies were minimal. I used scrapbook paper, india inks and some embellishments. Nothing fancy. The hardest part for me was slotting the time but once I sat down to it things went quickly. I'm posting this for those who may feel discouraged because it really does go fairly fast but I made mine generic and not addressed to a specific individual.

I do want to warn those in the U.S. about utilizing UPS. If you do (and I do not recommend it) make sure you do not use the first address Laruss sent. UPS will not deliver there. It cost me $19.00 to ship the first time then when I asked to re-route they again charged me $19.00 (even though it was still in Canada) *plus* a $14.00 re-routing fee. Ridiculous!!! I'm not complaining just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone was considering UPS as a courier especially if you are down to the wire.

I am really looking forward to all the cards and hope we can keep doing projects like this!

Ok, lets give those few stragglers this weekend to finish. Get them in the mail on Monday as it does take much longer to get here because I am in Canada. And you want to send them USPS, so as not to be charged the ridiculous amount that Katniss was charged by UPS.

That way I should have them all by the end of the month and I can get them mailed off and sis will have hers before she leaves, as she is in Canada and should have them within the week. For those in the States it will be about 2 weeks.

If you don't have them sent by Monday and you want to pay the extra postage to send by UPS just make sure you get my home address before you send them. This will give you about an extra week, but cost you more.

Those who still cannot get them done, I suggest we send the extras to the raffle unless they are personalized in which case I will mail them to you.

This is excellent as I won't be anywhere near a post office on the 11th and they won't be mail ready on the 10th, when I am.

My cards will go out either Saturday or Monday via USPS because I'm a big ole cheapo like that.

I am tackling mine this weekend. One of my big fundraisers for the club happens in a week and a half and I should have known to NOT sign up for anything but I did. Then, my PC crashed and it has literally been one thing after another. I *do* have an idea for this though.

But, it involves destroying a lithograph and I was really not sure if that was allowed ;)

The only real "rules" if you want to call them that, is that it be 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" (approximately) and that it have at least 2 mediums. Everything else is up to you.

Sadly, I have to bow out. When I was deconstructing my lithograph, I found that it was glued to a fairly thick piece of cardboard. There is no way I can get the things I need in time to get things out by the deadline.

laruss and nanners, please be super careful with my reunion card. I went to the post office first thing this morning (so it will not include todays mail) and there was nothing there for me

Hopefully when I go next week everyone's will be there waiting for me. :D

Can I make a suggestion for future projects. Maybe we make shorter deadlines so that people know how busy they are in those few weeks and they don't have to back out. Plus if everyone takes time to really think about whether or not they will have time before they jump on board.

As someone who was late with the last project I totally understand how life gets in the way sometimes, but it is so disappointing for those who get their projects done on time and then have to wait or don't get from everyone.

Plus, is anyone keeping track of those who repeatedly drop out and or are consistently delayed? I am not sure if it is the same people repeatedly or not, but it might be something we should track.

Maybe if we sign up and don't get ours there on time we can't take part in the next one. We have to wait.

Anyway, just a suggestion.

Looking forward to getting everyone's work.

Jennifer and I have both messaged wryly and justanolecowboy and I know I haven't heard from them and Maryam (last time I checked) had not been on BFP since June so I am not expecting hers (although I did message her).

Laruss, I am in agreement with you that there needs to be some rules around this.

I like your ideas of a shorter time to get them done, so people can look forward and anticipate if they have time to do them.

I also think that if you don't get your project mailed by the deadline day, that you automatically cannot participate in the next one. (That would be ME for the next one) and honestly, I was going to bow out until winter knowing how many plans I have coming up.

I don't keep track of others, and I'm new to this thread so I really don't feel I can say anything there.

I sure hope you get mine soon, I'm getting worried about them.

nycfem
07-26-2013, 04:28 PM
Yes, we do have the same people repeatedly drop out. If it becomes too glaring, I bring it up either on the thread if it seems appropriate or 1:1 if not. Sometimes I think the people who always drop out don't even realize that they always drop out. I've never had anyone I've directly addressed it with come back at me in anything but a kind way (maybe because I also approach them in a kind way).

I definitely don't think anyone who dropped out in one project should get to sign up for the next, but that's usually not how it works. They know to keep a distance for a project or two or more and then reappear. It's hard because we are a friendly group, and they may happen to be our good friends. But I think it needs to be called out when it happens repeatedly.

We have two type of drop-outs:

1) People who are completely new to the thread and they sign up for something and then disappear

and

2) People who occasionally turn in a project but often don't. Sometimes these people are great artists and their work is enjoyed but when I see their name on a list, I clench up a bit, knowing what we may be in store for, and also knowing that fairly new people don't know that this person is not that reliable or consistent.

On a positive note, we also have a decent size group of people who are very reliable.

I think it's very much about being open and direct. People who constantly make excuses don't always realize they do. I've never had someone who I've confronted in a nice way, challenge me and say: "I'm signing up anyway." If we get too specific in our rules, we risk people getting around the system (e.g. if they just have to skip one project, then they will be back and do it again.). That being said, if someone has dropped out twice, whether in order or not, they're usually not reliable in my book.

sis
07-26-2013, 05:24 PM
..... as I expressed previously, I have location challenges that create a challenge for me to participate. I loved this project and believe my life has been blessed by being able to participate.

Yes, I would like to participate more often; but, no, I'm not going to put the group through the lack of reliability known as China Post! However, I would be open to participating in a single item exchange (think decorated Altoid Tin) as I was successful in sending this out via Hong Kong several years back. That way, I only affect ONE PERSON should they not receive it. And, hopefully, said person will be understanding and able to wait until I can mail something from Canada.

Also, I think our lists are simply too large. While this was a simple project for me ..... having to make 15 items can be daunting. Perhaps, we need to have smaller groups but have two projects going at the same time. Or, sign up to wrangle a project that will be posted and completed within a two-month period.

Another idea, if people were willing to share their personal info, we could 'pen pal' our projects to the people of our choice. The commitment then becomes ours alone and does not affect the wrangled group.

Deb

Gemme

Those who have been here and there (over yonder...back in the day, etc) for years now do know who is more reliable and who is less reliable. The new folks will catch on soon....unless they fall into the latter group.

I think the idea of having multiple projects going on at the same time would be a train wreck. Absolutely. We have a hard enough time getting everyone to fully participate in one project. Imagine two. Or three.

We've been pretty relaxed about the deadlines because life does happen and sometimes people have genuinely important reasons for not being able to fulfill their obligation. Still, it sucks to have to wait weeks or months after we were supposed to get something before it's done. Know I say this as someone who has dropped the ball a few times over the years.

BUT

This is not for a degree. Or a raise. Or anything that is a matter of life of death. And it shouldn't be taken as such. We are all passionate about this stuff; that's why we post here and why we want to participate in projects. We should have some give and take, but only if it's balanced. Not too much take and not too much give.

I like the idea of the wrangler posting all the details and not accepting any sign ups for a few days, in order to give folks time to really dig into their supplies or check their schedules and see if it's really feasible for them to participate.

I also like the idea of being firmer with the deadlines in general. Or have a deadline for each part of the project. We kind of do this now but maybe a deadline to sign up. A deadline to finish and post that you are finished. If someone doesn't post that date, the others can take their pieces for that person out of the package. A deadline to mail by. A deadline to receive the projects.

I think a little more firmness while still being fair and reasonable is good.

nycfem
07-26-2013, 07:44 PM
I agree with all of this, Gemme. We have problems with accountability with one project. Imagine with a few at once! I also agree about firmness with the deadlines. Let's have a little more of it. Now, this is going to mean more drop outs but, fuck it, if people drop out more than once, this probably isn't the party for them anyway, and I think we need to speak up more when that becomes the case. Finally, I agree, that there's no need for total rigidity. A week late, yeah, two months late, no.

Here--> :2cents:

I love doing the Penpals, Scrapbookers, Postcard Artists and Other Creative Types projects. It is relaxing and fun.

So, in keeping with the momentum of happiness and joy and R & R, I suggest, we do what is best for the majority.

Hard deadlines. No extensions, and the flow for the majority will continue. :tea:

Seeing the Raffle Deadline for shipping not too far around the corner. There are no extensions, as there will not be anyone going to the post office for late stuff. Registration cutoffs for the Reunion and cutoffs for booking the hotel, etc. exist for the tally, and the majority

Thus, if no grace period, no late projects, and the majority get to create more often. We had a really good flow going for a while, with that kind of pattern.

Guess that was more that 2 cents here-> :2cents: :2cents: :2cents::mohawk:

..... is there a method to monitor we are 'all on the same page at the same time'? A few of us had our art shipped BEFORE some people dropped out. And, in some cases, had labeled the art for specific people.

Regarding my previous comment about having two projects going at the same time ..... the other component would be a maximum of 5 or 6 participants. Thus, less to do and perhaps not as daunting. However, I do agree that two projects of 10+ participants would be a challenge.

Anyhow, off to watch some guy paddle across Lake Winnipeg to raise money to help save the lake! Have a great Saturday!

Yeah... I made that mistake.. for the umpteenth time! I often do like to individualize my art and will continue to do that (to use the person as my muse) BUT from now on I'm going to do the "Gemme" thang (that's who I associate with this technique), where I put the art in a little plastic bag (or whatever) and put the label on the bag instead of on the actual art. That way, at the very least, when people drop out and the art is sent back to me, they are still inspired by someone but don't say: "To: xxxx From: nycfem" on them.

In regard to how many people participate, I'm for leaving it up to the wrangler. There's some pros and cons to small and large lists.

Just my $.02 from someone new to this thread...

I elected to bow out when I realized that some of my supplies were unusable. It would have been easy for me to replace them then get my ATCs out within a few days but my understanding was that they were due to be sent within two days of my withdrawing. Two days would be impossible with obtaining a new media and allowing things to dry. But, a week would have been ok. (I think I bowed out approximately two weeks ago)

If there is an absolute deadline, people may or may not withdraw because of whatever circumstances they have going on. If the deadline is 2-4 weeks from the close date to sign up, that should not be an issue the majority of the time.

BUT, whatever is decided with regards to deadline needs to be enforced. I have been sitting out this project because I respected the deadline set. I stepped back knowing how much I was going to miss being part of this but I did it because I felt it was the right thing to do, since a deadline was posted.

My time on BFP has significantly decreased and I miss hanging out here. Being part of these projects and the greeting cards project allows me to still feel that closeness to the people here. I really do not like missing something because I followed the rules though :(

My cards got sent back to me for some unknown reason so now I'm looking at having to send them next day in order for them to get there in time for laruss to send them out. That would cost $68 because Canada is technically international mail. The next best option is 3-5 days, is still hella expensive and wouldn't help out anyways.

I just really don't have that kind of money right now and I'm really sad because I worked really hard on my cards and did individualize them and all that. Not sure where to go from here. I'd be willing to send them to folks individually to whomever would be willing to give me their address. Stupid incompetent fucking postal service!!!!!!!!

Please advise. I feel like crying, seriously.

Candy Coated Bitch and I like to make a sub group of ATCs called inchies and a subgroup within a subgroup of ATCs called micro-inchies. They are ATCs that are an inch by an inch (for the inchies) and half an inch by half an inch for the micro-inchies. And no we didn't make up the concept. They are popular amongst the nerdiest of the nerds in the ATC community. I love miniature art, and these are badass. We should really do a group exchange sometime...

That was my gut instinct. Fuck spending like $68 on postage LOL. I think I'm don having a meltdown. If everyone will just send me their individual address that would be WONDERFUL.

I made cards for those who ended up dropping out, so if you would like it please send me your address as well.

An YES inchies!!!!!! Best invention ever, I swear. And microinchies as well. I am addicted to miniature stuff.

candy_coated_bitch I am so sorry for all your troubles, I have no idea why they were sent back originally.

You have my address so you can just send me mine. Hopefully everyone else gives you theirs. sis is the only one you have to worry about it getting there on time now, and that should not be a problem. Don't forget to send me your address so I can send all your other ones out.

I am sorry that me living in Canada became such a hassle for so many of you. I loved wrangling because I got to see them all, but it might not be worth it to everyone else to have me do it again.

Note: nanners and pixie I got yours today. YAY!!

Everyone did such amazing and very different work, i am so impressed.

I am in for any miniatures you want to do.

CCB, I pm'ed you my address!

Laruss, you'd laugh if you heard the HUGE sign I just let out when I read you got mine today! So...the extras that we sent for people that did not participate, can you send them back to us so we can choose what to do with them when you send out the packages for each of us?
Remeber the Reunion Raffle ones come to me. I am doing something special with them per Tommi's instructions.

I am so relieved!!!!

So, were we the last two? Or are we waiting for justanolecowboy still?

I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday and I'm not back until the 13th or so, so I can imagine I will not get mine until after I return anyway.

Now I'm really excited to see everyone elses!

I have no idea! This isn't the first time this has happened to me, either. I live in a very small town and like three people total work at the post office. You'd think that would make it more reliable, but....nope. LOL. Honestly, I'm just glad they weren't LOST. I put a lot of work into them so I'd rather them be sent back rather than lost any day.

Lookit me being all optimistic and shit.

My ATC cards were returned too.
Alrighty then, Lemme tell ya what happened with my ATC cards..first time around.
I finished mine, got them in the mail early, and ~ ~ ~ they came back. Not enough postage. NOW, I had taken them to the counter, and personally mailed them after the counter person put the postage on them. (at a USPS contract carrrier's. Mail Bixes, etc.)..week later, there they were. Postage Due..so , I went to the MAIN USPS post office, and was told that not everyone understands the International mail rates , I paid about a dollar and a half more, and laruss got them. ...:seeingstars::seeingstars::seeingstars:

So, next time to Canada, I am going to slather the envelope with good old stamps and send it off...

PS. sending you my addy. :mohawk:

Sorry to have been so quiet (although I imagine many were thrilled I was) but just to weigh in quickly.......

I think the deadlines should be firm. Both Sis and LaneyDoll had good points and as I wrote a few pages back I went to extra expense to re-post mine after they were returned thinking if I didn't I would miss the deadline. If I had known we were going to extend I would have re-sent regular post and saved $50.00. But I am "Type A" like that, esp. regarding deadlines and so I take them seriously.

Smaller groups but all working on the same project might be more feasible. I know I was a latecomer added to the list and was so happy I could participate. I would have been bummed if I had not been added to the list then watched several people bow out (for whatever reason.) I think if the group is too small then the times I can't *live* on BFP I would never be able to make the list as it closes so fast. Maybe in this case 2 groups of 10 could have been done? I don't know if then we would need 2 wranglers, I suppose 1 for each group makes sense.

As to the current set of cards...I did not individualize mine but Laruss if you have everyone's address please go ahead and send mine to them, regardless of whether or not they stayed in or bowed out. Any extras can go in the BFP basket or send them back to me, whichever is easiest to do.

C-C-B, I will PM you my address and sorry you also had trouble mailing them off.

Why start a sign up list if you aren't sure what the project is--- meaning I want to do another project but I don't want to sign up til I know what I'm getting into. But if I don't sign up now, will others take the place and I'll have to opt out? <scratching head>

Agreed. I think the frenzy that ensues after announcing a project because people want a chance to get on the list and if they don't sign up immediately is what caused some of the issues in the last project. I really liked the suggestion of announcing the project, then giving it a couple days so people can actually give it some consideration and then saying "Sign ups will begin on such and such a day at such and such a time." Then people who know they REALLY, after considered thought, want to sign up--they can. And there's not a mad dash just to get on the list.

Also--IMHO after that point--if you don't make it on the list in time, you don't make it on the list. It always seems nice to let one more person join, but if you let one person join, then you have to let the next person join, and so on. If you sign up thinking you'll be doing X amount of whatever--the addition of a few more people might actually make a difference for some people.

The more I think about it, the more I would have to say we should give a four or five day intro to a project BEFORE having a sign-up. I happen to be able to have the time to access BFP several times a day. Others, only a few times a week. This would allow ALL people to have the opportunity to check in to see if there is a project AND allow a good amount of time to think about whether or not a personal commitment can be made. Ya know, I'm a bit of an organizer (and have to be with my life situation) so I have to consider several things BEFORE I make a commitment to anything. Sometimes, I need a couple of days to get my ducks in a row before making a commitment.

I also think that having a Wrangler from the USA is a good thing as then most packages can be tracked for a nominal fee. Okay, tracking doesn't work for those outside of the USA but that only concerns a few people.

And, CCB, I'm waiting excitedly to see your Art! Thanks for getting it in the mail!

Since 2010, In the spirit of it all, it has gone both ways, filled fast, slow , drop outs and add-ons....and we get a little surprise package to enjoy on time, sometimes delayed. (Except for ONCE) When and if Someone mentioned a project months before, signups could be slow, or really fast
Maybe because I have done almost all of them I am signing up. No matter what they were, or who wrangled them since Gemme started the thread. If it is something I have never done, then I want to explore and experience it. (Which has happened to me several times..making jewelry, and ami's project of creating something from what she sent to us all) So, long and short of it, it's for fun..

If you look back to the 2010 or 2011, there has usually been a month or so for sign ups, and since it is something we all look forward to, some of us jump in...It's all good fun.

I have been doing this since the dash site and I have stepped back due to my irritation with drop outs and delays. While I try to be civil about it, it just gets to the point of why deal with it.
I have to say that when I saw Pixie wants to wrangle, it got my attention. I still have some of her art hanging in my craft room. And I would sign up not knowing the project and i will be participating this round.

Maybe Pixie can let us know what it is and then we can start signing up next week. Pixie?

So, this was my morning. I am putting all the ATC's into packages, determining which ones go to who and who sent what so I don't send them theirs back (or do if they wanted them returned) and I do mine last. I had put them in the envelope with Jennifer's so I wouldn't lose them. So, I am laying them out and I realize they are not signed, weird I was sure I had signed them. Then I realize they don't all have the metal leaf I had added. Well I know I put metal leaf on ALL of them. Then I realize there is not enough!! What the heck??

I then realize these were the ones I had left over, so where are the ones I made for the project?? I start searching, I start pulling cupboards apart. I only keep finished art in a couple of places. I searched and I searched until I ran out of time. I had to go to work. Now I am sitting here wracking my brain trying to figure out what I did with them.

I know they are there, there is no where for them to have gone. I have put them somewhere safe?? Tomorrow is my day in the studio and I was planning to send them tomorrow, which I am sure will still happen. I should know better then to put things in a "safe" place. Where would I put unfinished work? Which is actually my finished work this time.

How do these things happen to me? I know... to much to do and to little space to do it.

If it makes you feel any better I am famous for finding "stocking stuffer" gifts that I forgot where I had hidden them months (and even years) later. I recently ran across a little stuffed Barney I was going to have Santa leave my daughter one year. Too bad she is almost 11 now.....

Hi everyone!!!!

I didn't mean to let everyone hanging, I just didn't have enough time to go researching back to see if anyone had claimed the wrangling position...and have been working 14 hr days since I posted....so please forgive my tardiness.

I am honored that you are all so interested in my idea. It was actually inspired by the conversation here on drop outs, sign ups, wrangling, forgiveness, and life.

I was thinking of a Mentor Moment. Here you can do whatever you like (reasonable enough to mail) where you take a moment and give advice. This is not a lecture but your expression from something you would have liked advice or mentoring before you had began. So you can take this opportunity and share your experience and let your voice be heard. These mentor moments can be written or visually expressed.

What I would like your input on is if you would like to do this as one piece and have one specific person it goes to, or if you would like to do multiples so that each person receives each one....

What do y'all think?

*ps... I hope this doesn't sound dumb or boring....I have really been an advocate for validation lately and truly feel the inspiration and heart that lies in being witnessed and accepted*

I think it sounds like a great idea! My thought is to send to one person, or a limited number of people. Obviously, I would go with what the group thinks or if it seems too much not sign up.

For me, making 15 ATC's was HARD. I've been in swaps before where people sign up but we get assigned only a certain number of partners. Say, three. even though more than that sign up. Not sure if that's too complicated. But just my preference, for the record. :)

I just found this group on FaceBook and I am in love with the idea. I thought I would share it here as it is a great way to share the love while getting rid of extra pieces we have from here when people drop out.

I follow Michael DeMeng on FaceBook already and I am not sure how I did not know about this project, but I think it is amazing and when you read the stories I think you will agree.

You leave pieces of art all over for people to find, there are tags you can download and print. When people find them they have your email address and they can contact you. Some may not, but just the idea of making someone smile when they find it is worth it to me.

Anyway I thought I would share because it may help us to not be so upset when we have leftovers. Now we have a great way to share them.

I am starting today.

Someone does that here in Albuquerque-- its called 'Free Art Friday' -- some of the stuff is pretty neat. Some are pieces that are left behind and some are new pieces made. She leaves them around town and drops hints of where they are and people use the clues to find them. Its kind of fun, actually.

For me, making 15 ATC's was HARD. I've been in swaps before where people sign up but we get assigned only a certain number of partners. Say, three. even though more than that sign up. Not sure if that's too complicated. But just my preference, for the record. :)

I would have to agree-- when its a larger crowd, its sometimes harder to do more than 10. Especially if you are the person who is the type of person who is more elaborate in your art. I wouldn't mind doing up to 3.

Good idea, CCB.

*ps... I hope this doesn't sound dumb or boring....I have really been an advocate for validation lately and truly feel the inspiration and heart that lies in being witnessed and accepted*

pixie

I absolutely love this idea! And, I am willing to do this for multiple people. I do not have a limit here. This is very easy and very inexpensive so maybe a group for people who wish to exchange one on one and a group for multiples; either way, I am good.

You know, I still have the magnet you made for me a few years ago. It's still beautiful and green and GLITTERY, which is what is truly important.

As awesome as Pixie's project sounds, I will not be signing up for it. I have Reunion and a move between now and next month and I know the limits of my attention span and my free time. Not happening. I know some lovely things will be created though.

Aw, laruss. I do that stuff all the time! I actually just spent an hour tearing apart my room looking for a mail art envelope I made and cannot find ANYWHERE.

@Katniss, my mom is famous for giving me stocking stuffer gifts she then finds throughout the year. It's kind of fun, actually LOL.

And yes--Pixie!!! You dropped a bomb on us and we can't wait to hear what you have up your sleeve. :P

PS: To those ATC project participants who have NOT given me your address please do so. This includes Gemme, Maryam, Bleu, justanolecowboy, wryly. I think some of you dropped off the face of the earth but I DO have cards for you!

Sorry CCB for my lack of response. I just got back on the site after being without a computer for about a week. I'll send you my addy tonight.

Also, was there a decision made as to when the next project/Mentor Moment sign up list would be posted?

It seems to be the standard project. Make one less than the number of people signed up (i.e. subtract yourself from the total). So if 10 signed up, you'd make 9. And it looks like 10 signing up is the max here.

Thank you! I know it probably seems obvious, but I just wanted to make sure LOL. I'm kind of on the fence now because I'm trying to figure out whether or not I can create 9 items. I tend to go too big.

I feel the joy you had when you worked on your project. I feel the secret smiles you had when you thought about who would (or might) receive your art. I feel your sense of accomplishment (or, at least the sigh of relief) when you finished your gift.

And, I feel soooooo blessed! I also feel like the young students I teach ..... I keep looking at each card over and over again and every time I always see something new! I almost think I should laminate the cards so they will last forever! Thank you to each and every one of you!

For anyone who wants to keep their ATC's safe, they fit perfectly in the baseball card holders. At our local dollar store I got a package of 8 sheets and they hold 9 cards each.

Oh, and as much as I would love to do this current project I am going to sit out, I need to get caught up on a few other things first.

I got my cards today, too. OMG, I LOVE them and I am super, super impressed by everyone!!! These came to me at just the right time.

Deb/sis--Your card is SO adorable. I love the "fortune" and I am obsessed by the little crocheted butterfly. Seriously--I want to adopt it.

laruss--I love the canvas you used on your card and the soft greens and god leafing are gorgeous.

Tommi--Did you draw this card? It's very impressive. I love this landscape and all the beautiful colors and that it feels like a mini painting.

nycfem-- :) I own the same paper you used as the background of my card LOLOLOL. You are truly my creative twin. And of, course the Hello Kitty is awesome! I want to adopt her, too! Love it.

Katniss--I love your muted colors and the message is one I needed right now. AND I love the little ticket. I'm like, obsessed with tickets and miniature things.

deb0607--I love that your card is pretty on both sides and that everything coordinates. And the shiny heart stickers, well I love anything shiny.

Gemme--I love both your card and your message. I love the muted greys of the card that make your embellishments really special.

I have a card from a mystery artist, but I am guessing it's from pixie?

pixie--I adore this card. Your use of tissue paper is wonderful and so bright and captivating. And again with the sparklies--yay!

Thank you EVERYONE for all your hard work!

deb0607--I love that your card is pretty on both sides and that everything coordinates.

I didn't use sparkles.....mine was paper and clear laminate sheets that changed the image... But thanks!

I just got my ATC cards today from laruss. I am super impressed. They are awesome!

Pixie, I think laruss sent the cards back we made for the folks who either didn't make the deadline or never responded.

This is making the anticipation for CCB's ATC all the more exciting. I should get it any day now I hope!

I understand I just got 6 back and so I wanted to make sure everyone got one of mine is all....

pixie--It definitely wasn't your card I was referring to, then. I have to investigate and see who else might have not signed their card.

I did NOT get a card that sounds like yours. :(

I think that through the process of elimination it could be nanners that used the tissue on her cards.
