I got my cards today, too. OMG, I LOVE them and I am super, super impressed by everyone!!! These came to me at just the right time.
Tommi--Did you draw this card? It's very impressive. I love this landscape and all the beautiful colors and that it feels like a mini painting.
Thank you EVERYONE for all your hard work!
Yes, pen and ink sketches, then watercolors and colored pencil
Thank you,
Now, I am Heading to the Post Office for mine in the AM,

OMG, CCB, I got your ATC in the mail when I got home last night and it was the only piece of mail I opened...(it was 2:30am) and it is great! Thank you for sending the raffle one too!!
Yes, tis newbie nanners who did not sign hers... and they are made with tissue paper and some have sparklies on them, and some have pen and ink on them as well.
I'm looking forward to the rest of them.
I'm going to sit this next one out, too many things on my plate after a nice, relaxing vacation that I have to (gulp) start thinking about now.:seeingstars:
Ahhhh, back to reality. *sigh

justanolecowboy - you will receive after I do.
the reunion ones were sent to nanners.
I hope I didn't make any mistakes. I counted and double checked before sealing envelopes, but you never know.
I did send all extras back to the artist as some had requested, some hadn't. I figured that way it was up to you if you wanted to send the extras to the reunion or not.
I abandoned (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ArtAbandonment/) my extras with a card in which I wrote a motivational quote.

I got mine in the mail today, and they are all wonderful! I am so impressed by all the different ideas!
In the same package were the reunion ones so I will go to the craft store and decide how they will be displayed for the reunion...probably in a photo page that can show both sides, or using baseball card holders...we shall see!
Thank you for all being a part of this, it was wonderful to share our art with each other!
I wish I had time to do the next one, but I have so many things to focus my time and energy right now...I am so tempted, but must resist! I will do the one after this next one I hope.

I got my cards today!!! Laruss, you are so fucking organized! I love that about you!
Here are my words of excitement about each of the cards:
1) Laruss- love the silver! Can you post how you did the silver?
2) Gemme- love the commentary included and the flower! Also love the sparkling gold back!
3) Debbie- always love me some stickers :)
4) Sis- Love great quotes and the crocheted butterfly rocks my socks off! You always outdo yourself, and I always love it! PS Hope you got these cards before you needed to leave. Do let us know! Secondly, hope my package awaits you in China!
5) Pixie- You are always wildly creative. It makes me hella excited!
6) Tommi- Wow, just truly wow...
7) Katniss- Ohhh, I love the birdcage and the message! Beautiful!
8) Nanners- the one that's unsigned, I love tissue paper art and rainbows and kindness! Score!
Thanks, everyone! This was loads of fun!!!
As for the four cards I got back, I shall consider it a lesson: Never sign my art directly on it. Do the Gemme thing :) And I don't mean fart :|

I try to be organized, but I am so sorry that CCB didn't get one from Pixie, I really do not know how I did that.
To do the silver I actually use silver leafing.
I paint with acrylics, let it dry and then use an acrylic medium to add the silver leaf. I put on the medium with a brush and then place the leafing on the medium (it comes in verrrrrrrry thin sheets). I let it dry and then rub off the excess silver (or gold) with my fingers.
I then varnish the piece with a brush on varnish.
I use metal leafing a lot in my abstracts.

As to the next project of "Mentor Moment".....for the sake of clarity, are we mentoring on an artisitic technique, hobby, skill or general life lesson?
I am drawing a blank right now on which way I plan to go with this so advice welcome.

Happy Hump Day everyone!!! The official number of participants is 11. So please provide 10 mentor moments!
Mentor Moment
Take this moment and give advice. This is not a lecture but an opportunity for your expression from something you would have liked advice or mentoring before you had began. So you can take this and share your experience...let your voice be heard!
These mentor moments can be written or visually expressed.
Projects for each participant (and $5) due to me 9/7/2013 (so that it won't interfere with the reunion!)
1. Pixie
2. nycfem
3. ahk
4. Corkey
5. Uniqueswtfemm

8. Tommi
9. Tommi's kaijira

In regards to the type of mentoring you provide, it is completely up to you! It can be how to do an oragami piece, how to bake/or not to bake brownies, it can be about overcoming specific obstacles, it can be about you......I'm just ready to learn from y'all and have my moments validated in the process!
I look forward to it all!!

Katniss~~
I am actually doing advice that has helped me along the way. I choose three different pearls of wisdom and will turn them into something (hopefully) worth putting on the fridge if desired. The thoughts are all my own and they might be based on real quotes but I am not sure. I just know they were all helpful to me and one was practically a mantra for a very long time.

Yay! Guess what I recieved in the mail yesterday! Noooo, not a sex toy, but the ATCs! Yay! I love them all and thanks so much for the work and effort that was involved.
1) Laruss- My favorite colors are blues and greens!
2) Gemme- So true about which do we focus on, light or shadow.
3) Debbie- Glitter hearts always rule!
4) Sis- The quote was spot on and adore the butterfly. I can't even hem pants and send them out so handiwork is very impressive!
5) Pixie- Yours really made me think. I thank you for that.
6) Tommi- Yours was my daughter's favorite with the little deer in the background.
7) Nycfem-I love those stars and the quote!
8) Nanners- Yours made me smile. I thought of a 70's record cover with the colors and sparkles.
9) CCB--Thanks you again for taking the time to send yours on.
***Anyone who had to drop off the list I went ahead and made you a card. If you PM me your address I will be happy to send it to you. ***

*****ANNOUNCEMENT*****I have the ATC cards that we made for the Reunion, and I am researching the best way to have them in the Raffle.
This is my idea, but I want to make SURE that no one would be disappointed or offended before I do it this way.
There are 10 of them, and I would like to put them in a frame (which leads me to the concern I have of both sides not showing as there were 3 of them that had pretty back sides to them as well as front sides). I would have each person's name (and title of their work if they included it) below their piece and somewhere in the frame I would have the name of our Thread here, all written out, likely in calligraphy or my very neat handwriting.
If this does Not work for anyone who participated, please let me know by Sept. 1st, by PM or on this thread. I would also like to know if anyone has any better ideas that what i have suggested.
Thank you for your time!

I think a frame would be a nice idea, as long as it would fit fine in the winner's suitcase. Calligraphy is so lovely. I think that would add a nice touch.

I finished my "Mentor" project last night and will mail it off Thursday to Pixie.
I hope everyone appreciates the fact I lost at least 45 brain cells due to accidental inhalation and excessive use of "airplane/model" glue. I also can never be fingerprinted on my left hand as the glue seems to have permanently filled in all the ridges an whorls on my fingers. I am also missing a patch of hair the size of a dime (you will see why when you get my project) from scratching an itch and forgetting my fingers were glue encrusted.

I'd be cool with a Halloween card exchange but maybe we could do it in groups of 5 so that 5 people each exchange cards directly. That way it wouldn't be too many cards to do and no one would have to wrangle since it's a pretty simple holiday exchange.
My example would be:
Group A
1. ahk
2. Jennifer
3. (the 3rd person who signs up)
4. (the 4th person who signs up)
5. (the 5th person who signs up)
Then, a new group of 5 who exchange together
Group B
1. (the 6th person who signs up)
etc.
That way each of us get 4 cards and only have 4 cards to do.
Thoughts?
I would be interesting in a Hallowe'en exchange ........ however, I can't guarantee when the cards would arrive! If you think it would be okay for me to join, I will get onto this right away!

Hey everyone! I have three Mentor Moments, each person will get one. For anyone that I know a little bit, I could match the moment to the recipient. For everyone else... my moments were pieces of advice that have helped me along my path. It may not relate to you in your current situation but I am hoping that maybe you will see a time in your life that the advice might have been fitting.
For anyone not on the list who wants one, I have about four extra. If you want one, please let me know, via PM, with your address, by tomorrow night? I have to visit the post office to pick up a package and will drop one in the mail to you :)

I'm finishing up my mentor project this weekend and will mail it on Monday morning!
Okay-- Well I believe that Mentor project is officially over-- well at least with MST, CST, and EST.
I thought that we could start a sign up sheet for the HOWL-OH-WEEN (homemade) card project.
We (NYCFEM and myself) talked about splitting into groups of 5 and then only having to make 4 cards and then sending out to the individuals in your group, and others have talked about sending more out to other groups. So what do you want to do?? For me, I like the group thing, but also it depends how many sign up for the project. If there are only 7 folks, I don't mind making 6 cards.
If you plan on including candy in project, please make sure that the individuals can eat what you plan on sending.
After the deadline (Sept 30) for signup-- lets figure out if we are going to do groups or no groups.

I don't mind taking "spillover" either. If there is no clear division of groups, meaning the number won't divide, I will gladly take extra names. I'm probably going to be a candy/treat sender just as an FYI.
:sparklyheart:
I'm in HOWEVER I really would like to stick with the group-of-five-but-make-only-four-cards! I'm thinking that postage to China won't be cheap so I don't want too many people inconvenienced financially. Also, NO food for me as that is what get inspected/confiscated. I know, I know, what's Halloween without giving and getting treats but that's the way the tootsie rolls here in the PRC!
So, will I be in a group of the first 5 listed???
Deb

Hey, ahk, do you want to put our treat preferences next to our name in the list? If so, I am, "No chocolate, but yes any other candy" That way, anyone who wishes to add candy can have a quick reference guide :)

I would like to do cards for all, but understand for those who wants groups. I can join more then one group if you go that way (if it doesn't divide easily).
Side note: I have gotten so hooked on ATC's (the project I wrangled) that I joined a FB group and am now trading all over the world. I love it.

Basically, at this point, it's a free for all in terms of what is being created, yes? If we wanted to use materials, let's say candy, as part of the actual card (not meant for edible purposes), would that be okay?
Thanks for the head's up, ahk! I just got back online today and saw your message. :)

1) if we dont want to use candy, we dont have to, right? Its a halloween card, but not necessarily a candy project?
2) if we wanted to do more than our 4, can we?
Miss_Tia:
I don't have everything worked out yet with who is what and where you'll be sending cards. When the deadline approaches I will let you and everyone know what is going on. It looks like a few want groups, and others don't. So soon-- we'll have to a majority vote and see. Until then, please be patient.
About making cards -- homemade cards using any materials you want. Paper, felt, feathers, stamps, candy--- whatever your heart desires.

So, there are about 5 rows of Smiles on right hand side of the box where you make a Post Message. If you click on them they are added to the message where you left the cursor...
FOR the Big list where the cute thingies that dance around click on [More]
at the bottom where it says [More]

Okay, I'm closing the list-- and thought that instead of waiting til Sept 30 that it would be best to start something now as some folks long distance need to get them out sooner than after October.
We have 14 folks signed up, but possibly 13. Do you all want to do just the amount listed?? This shouldn't be a hard decision, just let me know.
Thank you.
Sis-- I got you taken care of, no worries.
PS. For those who haven't said what they want as in candy or no candy, please send to those as no candy.

Okay-- so why don't we just mail to everyone. If you can't or don't feel you can, please let me know so I can assign you some names. If we've already talked about it, then carry on.
For everyone-- please email me @ arikhk@yahoo.com, your mailing address so I can get everyone a copy sent out so we can trade. Please and thank you.

Yep, as I recall the Holiday Cards threads, someone makes an Excel spread sheet or mailing list for the Holiday Cards, and it works well. No wrangler for that many.

PPSS. I am not saying when we should have them mailed out til I hear some feed back about groups or no groups.

Well at first yes, but then folks out of states needed something sooner, so just figured it would be better and since the list hasn't had any updates for a few days, we just closed it. Do you want to be included?? If so, say so and I'll add you since you once said you'd possibly wanted to.

My cards went in the mail today, sans candy as I was worried about the border crossing, plus the extra expense in postage.
I made 13 cards, I counted a dozen times and I had 13 cards, today when I finally put them in the envelopes I had 12. So... being as Tommi and Kajira share an address I am going to have you share a card and I will also send you one (handmade) for Christmas. I had to drop out of the Christmas card exchange but I will make you two a card and send it as my apology and if I find the missing card I will send it too. I hope that is alright. I have no idea where it went. Let me know if this is not acceptable and I will make a new one, although it will be completely different as I have none of the supplies left that I used to make that one. Sigh

I'd like to suggest that every time we have a project, that we include some innocent third party. We would have a researcher who goes out and finds a kid with cancer, a mother who lost her son in Iraq, a father who lost his job, a teacher/band class whose children didn't win the first place in band, a social worker that made a difference... and let's all include them in our project. I haven't been able to edge into the projects yet, but I do this from time to time on my own. Why not do it as a collective group? It will only be one more person and some of us are disabled and have more time to look these things up using the internet.

I just wanted to say I still plan on doing a project! Since no one else spoke up and said they wanted to go next--well I will wrangle next. :)
I'm not going to post a lot of details until after Halloween, just because I think it might get confusing to start sign ups while everyone's thanking people for lots of cards. (Which is great!) But I prefer simple LOL.
So, on November 1st, officially after Halloween, I will post the full details. But just to start thinking ahead a little--we will be doing INCHIES!!! Which are basically like Artist Trading Cards using a 1 X 1 inch square and are really fun.

This is me sharing:
Do you like to make your letters/cards envelopes just a little more special than ordinary?
Do you sometimes organize your stamps to match cards? (like bday stamps for bday cards)
Do you feel sometimes that because you are creative, you don't mind spending a little extra to go that one step further to make something?
Then this is for you: http://www.zazzle.com/gay+stamps?st=price&sd=asc
I haven't had to use them for large projects yet. You can make your own special stamps via the post office (see their site for instructions) Or you can use one these people have made. Sure they cost more because of the special printing, but its the cost of a coffee isn't it.

Wow! Wow!Wow!Wow!
Just received my "Mentor Moments" packet in the mail this evening! What was enclosed was truly amazing, creative and much of the advice oh so timely! Opening all the little envelopes and tissue paper made it seem like the holidays! Since I seem the first to post about it I don't want to ruin anything by saying what the items were....but will hint at cards, photos, quilting (!!!), and stained glass-esque items!!!! I am planning on creating a framed collage of several of them to hang in my office. It is obvious so much thought and care went in to each submission. Thanks to ALL of you for participating, and Pixie for the awesome idea!.

Received a beautiful card from Tommi and Kajira today. Thank you so much, I also celebrate the New Year with Samhain.
Thank you EVERYONE who was part of the mentor project, I love every one of them! Though I would like to know who some are from, since some don't have names on them. I'd like to ask -- for the future projects, could folks please place their screen id's on items made/sent? Please, pretty please. Thank you.
Again-- really enjoyed and thank you Pixie!

Below I wrote out the list of people who did the Mentor Project so that we can figure out for ourselves the few not matched to names :)
BTW, for future, if you don't want to put your name on the art itself, perhaps write it on an envelope or tissue paper or a plastic wrapper, etc. Just so we can thank you :)
The art for this project was breathtaking! Love, love, loved it!!!

Zazzle is a great website. My daughter and I designed the stamps for her wedding invitation. It has been so long I had forgotten about it. Thank you for the reminder.

I used my name too. But it is part of my screen name so it is easy to figure out. The Mentor Moments projects were sooooo good that I stressed if mine were even acceptable. For anyone who did not know, mine were the super glossy, digital arts cards.
Oh, and there were three different designs. So what you received will be different from what some of the other participants received.

My Halloween cards will go out tomorrow. My out of the continent card was mailed out at the first of the month. One of my Canada cards went out at the same time. The other one was left home when I mailed those so it will go out with my U.S. cards. I hope it arrives on time.
My youngest helped me so it was a really fun project in that it allowed us some bonding time :)

I mailed my Halloween projects out yesterday. My apologies to those for whom that means a late celebration. No need to let me know you received because I like to operate under the assumption that mail is received. But if you want to comment, please do so on my visitor messages (as always, just my quirky preference).
I've been loving all the cards! Halloween is such a fun holiday, and I love how it makes the craft stores have to sell slightly darker merchandise :D

As promised, the posting of my project today, Friday Nov. 1st. I am hoping it doesn't get too lost in the wrapping up of the Halloween cards, but I can always repost.
I would like to say first off that I am going to be a strict bitch with this swap. If that is annoying to anyone, you shouldn't sign up.
Here's the concept:
*Inchies are miniature works of art created on a 1 X 1 inch square. Similar idea to an Artist Trading Card, just on a much smaller scale. I make mine on watercolor paper, but you could use cardstock, cardboard, old greeting cards--anything that is a bit sturdy.
*Because of the small scale inchies can be difficult to make. I would like participants to keep this in mind. It doesn't mean if you're a beginner I wouldn't love for you to participate--but just know the small scale is a challenge. But a good one!
*I am going to ask for a requirement that your inchies each have three layers/elements. Obviously, I can't force anyone to do anything, but think ART. Like, a background layer of scrapbook paper or paint would count as one layer. A collage element another layer, and something on top/combined with that as a final layer.
*For example: I usually like to start out with a layer of paint or a collage element as my background. I like using interesting tidbits of magazine pictures as backgrounds a lot. Then depending on what I feel like I might paint something on top of that or add another collage element--maybe one that builds upon the background idea. I also love things like rhinestones, glitter, sequins, etc. to enhance an inchie and give it some texture. So there's three elements. It's not super hard to come up with three layers--but I am putting this requirement because I want everyone to be considerate to their fellow participants and try to make sure everyone is on the same page with how much effort goes into this.
*I HATE when I spend hours thoughtfully creating something and then I get something back that someone has put no thought into. (And no, I am not talking about anyone specific here but I have experienced this in other swaps.) I don't want folks to be intimidated, but please carefully consider the time commitment of this swap before signing up.
*I am limiting this swap to 7 people (including myself). I thought long and hard about this. I know it might seem limiting and unfair to some--but this is going to be a fairly intensive swap and I am NOT NOT NOT negotiating on this. If folks miss out, there are other swaps, we can always do inchies another time, and you just can't have everything you want in life.
*Please create two inchies that are a pair for each of your swap partners. Not exactly the same, but two inchies that play off each other or harmonize in some way. You can make all your inchies the same theme, or make 6 sets, it's up to you. So everyone will be making twelve inchies and receiving twelve back in return.
*Please include some money to help out with postage and packaging, whatever you can afford, maybe $2-$5.
*I am NOT going to take responsibility for coordinating anyone's personal tastes/dislikes/requests. I tried to make the requirements clear, but ask questions if you are confused but, you get what you get in the swap. Sender's choice. If you hate bling--too bad because I'll probably be sending you some LOL.
*I will be posting the sign up list two weeks from now to allow ample opportunity for everyone to see this post, think about it, and then sign up. The sign up will go up Friday, November 15th at 5PM EST. First come, first serve. All's fair in love and pen palling.
*The due date will be two weeks from the sign up--Friday, November 29th. I will get them in the mail that following Monday. It's a relatively quick turn around time but I want to take into account getting the swap done and mailed out well before the holidays get hectic.
*I will repost/remind folks over the next two weeks up until the sign up date.
Happy swapping!

Dammit, woman! I'll be stuck in traffic at 5pm on the 15th. Can I authorize someone to post my sign up for me (you know, should I think about it and do all the formulas to determine that I have enough time/supplies/funds to do this project)?
Also, does it have to be 3 layers only or 3 layers minimum for each card?

Three layers MINIMUM. I just wanted everyone to have a starting idea of at least how much labor should go into an inchie--but more layers is always fabulous.
And to be fair, someone else may not sign up for you. I already told someone else no, so now I have to be equally annoying to everyone else LOL! We may have a Hunger Games situation when the list goes up.

I would keep the same rules as CCB laid out (except the numbers limitation), since it's her project.

I received NYCFEMs card back today. Not sure why-- this is the 2nd time this has happened. It just says not deliverable as addressed. -- I think the p.o is getting really lazy, seriously folks.

It's the third time because it happened to you twice with the previous project. Maybe there's some sort of allergy occurring
How much stamp money are you putting on it? Can you rep or PM me the name and address that you are sending to? This is not happening with anyone else, and I have such a simple, boring address (not like "the tree at the end of the lane"/"leave beside the briar patch", so it remains baffling to me, and I can't help but think you must be doing something wrong :canoworms: even if that makes no sense either. Like, are you going into a zombie state and writing something on the envelope like: "Fuck you, Mr. Postman! Shove this up your ass!" and so he's laughing and putting it right back in YOUR mailbox. It is just so mysterious and frustrating that I find my mind wandering down avenues that don't even make sense (so to speak). :deepthoughts:
Do you take it to a post office to be mailed or just do it yourself? Maybe you could take it to a post office to mail it. But whatever you do, please don't check off that I or another agent needs to be present for it to be delivered. The post office I am assigned to pick up things that require a signature from me or from my agent (not the post office I use to mail things which I like) is like a not fun haunted house. It takes years off my life every time I have to go.:pinata:
The sad part is I really like your snail mail, which is what makes me obsess on why this keeps happening :bigcry:

Wow-- did you eat lots of candy while typing this??
:chocolate: <--- faux chocolate
I sent you a PM and I went to the post office to drop all these off, since I had some out of country to send. Its not the postage/or lack of postage, because she weighed it and made sure I was good. It just has a yellow sticker on bottom stating " return to sender, not deliverable as addressed, unable to forward"
I have no idea.

I admit that I am over tired and did have donuts today, so yeah I'm a little slap happy. Maybe the postman had a bad relationship long ago with someone in the building I live in and is just determined to drive us crazy.

That YOU are the common denominator. You are clearly a mailing vortex.
That YOU are the common denominator. You are clearly a mailing vortex.
Nope.
I think its an east coast thing--
Because I don't have any other issues elsewhere.
So there.
Or better yet--

Just a reminder: sign ups will be posted Friday at 5PM EST!
Thank you to everyone who sent Halloween greetings to me. I did not keep a list of who I receives one from but I do still have them out ;)
Work has been busy so I apologize for not touching base more quickly.
Y'all have fun with the inchies project! I will admit that I am envious of those participating but I know that I do not have time to work on them.
I will be watching for the "after the holidays" projects!
XOXO

SIGN UPS!!!
For all interested in signing up--if you haven't read the project guidelines and rules please do so before signing up.
As I said, sign ups will be on a first come, first serve basis. Gemme said she would be willing to wrangle overflow if there is additional interest. Please
post in the thread if you missed the sign ups on THIS LIST. If you are signing up on MY list, please cut and paste the list into your post and DON'T just post separately in the thread that you are interested. This list is there for a reason.
Example: There are seven people in this project including myself. Below I will post a list of seven, with my name in the first slot. The next person should copy/paste this list adding his/hys/her name to the list. And so on and so forth until the list is full! And seriously--I will not be responsible if you don't follow the instructions. Just add your name to the list directly and don't post separately in the thread or you will miss out.
