My package arrived and it was lovely. Thank you to all. I would like to know who sent the yellow one, as mine had no name on it.
thank you to Jennifer for the welcome. I get busy and I introvert.
Has anyone ever heard of this? International Correspondance writing month? It is February. You write a letter a day. They even have a list of people around the world you can write to. http://incowrimo.org/
I thought about that after the fact. I did the yellow hearts.

One small mix up on my part...GeorgiaMa'am received one of her own cards back...so there is someone that didn't get one from her. Does anyone thin they may not have gotten one from her? If so, she is willing to send it to you if you can let her know.
I'm sorry for the mess up...that's what I get for dividing things up with a fever....:winky:

I have an idea for a new project....
what about face masks? Think Mardi Gras, masquerade mask (50 Shades). Of course not a real size but a scaled down version. Let me know if this subject appeals to anyone, I can put out some specifics later, if we want to do this.

Ok, a few more details...
I'm thinking the size of your cell phone. ( as I look at my phone, I know everyone's is different, so size stats could come later)
The pic I posted looks 3D, ours could be flat, if you choose. Just cut out eyes to look mask-like.
Materials to use, paper, stickers, colors, glitter(rules will follow for glitter use), beads, buttons, what ever you wanted.
I've seen fancy masks, masks that look abstract, animal looking, etc...all kinds.
Timeframe..3 weeks or so?
This is just a general list of details...I can do more specific write up later.
Still interested???

I'm interested. We did masks once before as part of decorating for a BFP reunion and they were one of the best projects ever! I'd love to do them again. I'd like to be able to use the pre-made masks from Michael's or wherever and decorate them OR homemade if the person desires (wants to save on costs, etc.). I like the cell phone size idea. I'd like if glitter has to be sealed if used because I really can't stand glitter getting over me when I open a package. I'm thinking it might be nice to have a full month to work on since they can take awhile, just a thought. I had totally forgotten about masks as a project and how much fun they were to decorate and look forward to the idea of doing them again!

Does anywhere carry small masks around the size of a cell phone you just have to decorate?

I did remember us making those masks for BFP Reunion that year! It was soooo much fun. I believe the masks were then "raffled" off & were used as table settings as well...
I am all in favor of the small (cellphone size ones) too!!
I am also not fond of glitter unless sealed somehow, like nycfem says. I hate opening something & it gets all over the place......sorry for the glitter gals. I am down so long as it is clear coated over or sealed somehow..:).
I agree a month at the least to have time as these can be detailed!!
This sounds like an incredibly fun project!!

Clay, what a great idea- Oriental Trading. They always have everything. I looked under "DIY masks" and found cool options. CCB, by cell phone sized, I think what Besame means is "half masks" -just the eyes vs. the whole face and also they couldn't get so wild that they are huge, lol. I do think any big chain local craft store would have these masks.

I love "Tommi projects" too- so hopefully Tommi will be back anytime to wrangle. I think it's too late for Valentine's Day given the date, though. Unless it was a general "love themed" project or something not due by Valentine's Day!

Recalling the BFP Reunion Masks were Zombie /skull related and were fantastic, and yes they went home with attendees.

The Oriental Trading Company has several designs for the DIY half masks.
I LOVED the idea of getting the 4 differing designs, BUT as my sweetheart noticed & mentioned...these designs have the raised bridge of nose in them....so will make for difficulty shipping these designs AND would have to be shipped in boxes to keep their shapes...so the overall shape & design is going to be an important factor in choosing which ones to decorate.
When the guidelines are posted, this should be a consideration so far as expense & shipping goes.
We have ordered the 24 pack of the plain flat ones, just for this reason....24 was $4.79 or so....
Just offering some helpful FYI....:)

Find a mask and wear it well.
So your true identity no one can tell.
Yay! New project! Get your creativity flowing. Let's make masquerade masks!
Your theme is your desire. Create one from the start or use a pre-cut one. The size should not be much bigger than 6x3. One should be made for each person who signs up.
Use any material you wish. Please take inconsideration the cost of mailing. I'll be asking for a dollar for each mask made to cover postage. Example, you make 3, it's $3 for mailing. 5 is $5.00, 7 is $7.00. You get the idea. Just watch the sign up list and include postage accordingly.
There will be a disclaimer.... If you choose to use glitter, which is allowed, please secure the glitter from spreading, by putting each one into a zip lock baggy.
So find, the glue, stickers, stamps, jewels, beads, feathers, ribbons, and anything you find in that craft box!
Time frame, 4 weeks. Due Feb 28th, and they will be late if not received by March 8th.
****please refer to the 2017 craft rules regarding due dates. It's in full view on post #5875, dated 11-3-16.

How's everyone's masks going?
I scrapped the oriental trading masks. They just ultimately felt too kiddie cardboard to me.
I went to a Party City and got some real masks that are comfy on the face (like 99 cent each) and then have been working on decorating them. I like the way they are coming out. They involve a lot of glued on parts and I've been using good old Elmers so I hope they stay strong, but I've been using a lot of glue, so I think they might.
I'm really pleased with how they are coming out. My theme is "rainbow gay color bright" and I feel like they even look kind of professional. I'm excited. Making masks is soooo much fun! This is a great project!

BTW, I'd love feedback to hear if my decorations stay on. It's helpful to know what works and what doesn't, so don't be shy :). You can even tell me right on the thread. "Eek! Your mask self-destructed!" It's good to know these things!

I'm totally staying with the Oriental Trading masks. I like that they're flat, I think they're easier to work with. I've completed two masks so far and am liking how they're coming along. I feel I have some momentum going. I might even work on them tonight if I can't sleep!

Hurray, hurrah weather improving so art supplies are finally trickling in. Now I can relax, get that Valentine’s Day gift promised to someone special in the mail and then begin working on craft stuff. Though I was beginning to sweat it with the way the weather has been, now with things trickling in and enough craft supplies on hand to get started I’m no longer worried about finishing everything up on time. What a relief, now on to the fun part! :)

It’s been craft city around here today-with only six masks to make I wondered if ordering the group pack was going to be overkill. Good thing I did. I had no idea it was going to be this difficult. First pass around well I don’t think I’ve made anything that ugly out of paper since elementary school. However sometimes I like a good challenge so I practiced and practiced. Now I’ve got two completes/ready to send and the remaining four half done so maybe I’ll be able to wrap this up tomorrow or the next. I’m wondering how everyone else is doing and if anyone has shipped out already?

Ok, I've started on the masks. I've had ideas and had to streamline them. I tend to want to do everything. I also make mine in an assembly line mode..lol.
So in my mind, I start with this step and then move on. Let's say they are cut out and there will be lots of glueing tomorrow. Iron on glue, spray glue and white glue. Tacky fingers! Ticky, tacky little gooey mess! (Insert, song...Little Boxes..)
P.s. my masks are flat too!

Masks are finished. Now I'm just waiting for some extras to arrive so I can mail out. The blanks were smaller than I expected.Too small to fit not all, but most adults I'd imagine. Rather than try and make them wearable instead just focused on making them decorative. The backs are unfinished. Though the basic shape is the same I did make them in different colors just for fun. Below are descriptions of the six available. Add your screen name after the color choice you prefer and it's yours. Here are the choices -
1. Blue and Light Blue (low glitter) -
2. Rose and pink (low glitter) -
3. Light Blue and purple (med glitter) -
4. Purple and Light Purple (med glitter) -
5. Green and Gold (heavy glitter) -
6. Hot pink and Purple (heavy glitter) -
P.S. These are not exact descriptions only generalizations. My sons argue with me all the time about whether something is as I see it purple, or as they see it blue.

If any of you care to text me a selfie of you or a friend wearing my mask when you receive it, I would love it, and if you don't have my cell phone number, just let me know, and we can exchange it in reputation comments. Received safe and sound. And beautiful I might add! Great job! Thank you so much for being timely :)

I'm kind of worried about my masks. I think I put them in the wrong mailbox. It was priority mail, and I put it in a box that said priority mail EXPRESS. I think that was the wrong thing and now I'm all paranoid about them getting to you ok.
Don't worry about a thing cause every little thing gonna be alright!

So here's the thing. I forgot to include shipping costs. I won't be able to mail out the money until tomorrow. So my masks will have arrived on time but my money will be late but within the grace period. Am I still good? Thought I'd bring it to the group.

I think it will be fine, i wish we had other options for ways to send the money. Personally that is the part that is actually the hardest for me, finding somewhere that has USD currency. I have to pay for the exchange AND pay for the transaction too-- that is if they have it. I use etransfer and paypal every where else in my life, cash seems hard to come by ...lol..

I called the postal service and entered my tracking number. The recorded response was: "The item is currently in transit to the destination as of February 28th, 2017 at 6:46 AM." This is odd because I mailed (priority envelope-3 day) on February 25th with an expected delivery date, as per my receipt, of February 28th, 2017. So I'm gonna hope for tomorrow!

As of Saturday I hadn't received any, but since we only have gang style mailboxes here (I'm in an apartment) It could be the carrier left any packages for me in the office that day. When they do they are supposed to leave a slip notifying me I have mail being held at the office but sometimes, depending on the carrier, they aren't always good about this. Yesterday of course there was no mail so I'll have to check later today. Also I'm concerned because so far only one person has let me know they received the package I sent them and I sent them all out by priority mail so it just seems they should have gotten to everyone by now.
My package & box of masks arrived today!
They are just beautiful! You all did an excellent job. Once again, it is so much fun to open projects, & try to guess whom did which, and seeing the very different yet so creative artistic interpretations.
I loved all of mine. I did indeed take a pic of me in the one I got from nycfem & texted it to her!
Thanks again Besame' for wrangling this really fun & innovative project!

It's been a couple of days since Besame addressed this (above). Has everyone received their packages of decorative masks and, if so, does anyone have more than 5? They were mailed out on the 9th, I believe.
Would everyone please double check their boxes to make sure they didn't receive more than 5? I'd be concerned if I were in CCB's situation too and we always want the participants to get the projects they were promised.
I know the storms in the past week have probably delayed things so hopefully this will be able to be figured out very soon.

Sorry it has taken me awhile to post, but I got mine yesterday, FSF's was separate and I got 5 in the padded envelope Besame sent out.
I have a picture of the one that I sent for CCB...on my phone and also the one that Clay made for her on my phone. Mine was painted pink and had butterflies on it.
I have a proposal. Clay and I will make CCB's over again and send them to her while I am visiting Clay beginning next week. Who knows what happened, but it doesn't really matter...we are cool with that and then we can all just move on and start a new project. Clay and I have enough leftover supplies to make the same ones again for her. Will this work for everyone?
I think it may have been a mistake somewhere along the line and humans are prone to make mistakes, let's just be kind and forgiving and move on, k?

My package is yet to be received.. It usually takes at least a solid week at least for shipping. *I am not fretting, or complaining* as I discussed with Besame when she was shipping to send the most cost efficient way rather than quick. If the missing masks are in my package, I will redirect them back to Besame so she is not without as well. I am certain it will all be sorted out, relax please, and just allow the dust to settle so we can fix it asap. Everyone is doing the best they can, and mistakes do happen.. rarely.. Happy Pi Day!

This is very kind of you and clay to offer!
Please understand that everyone that signs up for these projects has every right to expect return projects. Yes, mistakes happen. I've made a few myself. But I didn't see anyone behaving out of line or being unkind. Some are missing and someone inquired about them. You and clay made a wonderful offer but that offer is very special and not everyone would make it if their projects were lost (hopefully, temporarily!). There are still projects out there in world that some of us from the original tribe still haven't received so we're mindful of this stuff.

Well it looks like most people have weighed in and one way or another. So I'll be happy to wrangle this next project. My idea is to do inchies, only I want the inchies to be 2" x 2 square. The theme for this is "Seasons". Spring, Summer, Winter, or Fall. Choose one season per 2" inchie. As many can sign up as want to. Sign up would be until 3/31/17 and the deadline for projects would be 4/28/17, with officially being late on 4/17/17.....

Also, two inch pieces are called Twinchies (http://www.papercraftcentral.com/inchies-and-twinchies.html). There will be less confusion if we call them their actual name, I think. :)

we are loving all of the input & ideas. Thanks everyone.
We both agree to have it be a longer time frame to do, nanners was just playing with some date ideas.
So, nanners would like nycfem to PM her with her ideas for spicy themes...please!!
Ours are to incorporate: a snowflake for winter, a flower for spring, a sun for summer, & a leaf for fall. These are open to individual interpretation & use of a media of your choosing!

CCB, in the original post, nanners said to choose ONE season per twinchie, so I'm guessing that you could do a winter twinchie or a summer twinchie but will NOT have to cram multiple seasons on one twinchie.

I'll put my vote in for allowing us to decide what to put on the pieces and not restricting the items to a leaf, snowflake, etc. Of course, if someone wants to use those, cool but I like nyc's and Besame's ideas too.
Maybe we can be allowed to choose how we interpret the seasons as we see fit as long as it's a definite connection to the season? For example, a fireplace would likely represent winter or fall but not spring or summer. Or a swimsuit would represent summer unless it had fur and Uggs and a Swedish model wearing it.
The gardeners in the group could do pieces with fruits and veggies according to what season they ripen. The fashionistas could do dresses or wraps according to season or the materials used during a certain season....linen versus velvet, for example.
As a participant, I'd like to see the connection the creator makes to the season. Some things happen throughout the year, regardless of season. How would someone make those things season specific? Using Besame's suggestion of kissing, for example.
If someone throws snowflakes in the background of people kissing, that would be obvious, or if there's a close up of someone kissing someone else's sunburned shoulder with a yellow background, that would be obvious. But if someone just put a pair of lips on the piece, that wouldn't be season specific to me.

I love this idea (which incorporates Besame's idea). And would prefer it to the leaf, snowflake idea. It's fun to open a package and see something rather unexpected (within the season / twinchie theme of course!).

"For 2017, the rule is if one of our projects is received by the wrangler more than seven days after the due date, or one of us drops out of a project for whatever reason, that person is welcome to continue posting but is not allowed to sign up for a group project again until six months from the latest date that the project was supposed to be due. No exceptions. This rule applies to participants and to wranglers. Wranglers must mail out projects within one week of the latest date that the projects were supposed to be due. In addition to waiting six months before being able to join a penpal project, the person who has not met the latest deadline must post directly on the penpal thread within a week of missing the latest deadline stating that they have not adhered to the deadline (reason is welcome to be included or does not have to be) and, most importantly, the date on which they will be able to return to participating in the penpal projects. They must scroll back and add themselves to the bottom of the list of any other participants who have not met the late date for any project for 2017. If that is not done, then the member is welcome to participate in the thread with "thanks" and reps and thread chat but not to participate in any future projects for 2017. The reason for this is personal responsibility, so that we have a running record right on the thread that is easy to refer back to when needed. And for the purposes of clarification, if someone drops out before the deadline to sign up has been closed then they are not excluded from future projects because they are still following the rules.
Example: Bitsy misses the late date for a project. Within a week of that late date she must scroll down and find the most recent list of people who have missed the late date in 2017 and copy that list to a new post and add herself. Bitsy's post would look something like this:
'Sorry, I had the bird flu and missed the late date of 2/14/17. I can start participating in new projects on 8/14/17. I have added myself to the list below:
1. Tony (missed the late date of 1/28/17, able to participate 7/28/17)
2. Bitsy (missed the late date of 2/14/17, able to participate 8/14/17)'
This rule must be posted in its entirety at the bottom of all new projects that are being wrangled so that members can thoughtfully consider whether we wish to commit to a new project."

Like some of these are color/shape but could still give the impression of spring.
Some of them are like what I was interpreting our pieces to be like anyway, so I don't think some of them are off the mark at all. There were the little round balls and a heart on stems in one that were really cute and could definitely work for spring, imo.
Are you thinking more about the colors themselves? Like tans/yellows would represent summer, greens/blues would represent spring, oranges/reds/brown would represent fall and white/ice blue/browns would represent winter?
Is that more along the lines of what you were thinking?
When you first mentioned abstract concepts, I thought you were thinking more along the lines of these (http://www.greatbigcanvas.com/category/abstract-art/?gclid=CMXHq5Xo9NICFciKswodfUYATw).
Maybe a fusion of the two concepts?

[QUOTE=nanners;1135450]Project: Twinchies
Quantity you need to make: one for each person that signs up
Theme: The 4 seasons with a twist.
Instructions: Choose one season, and make a twinchie for each person that signs up for the project.
Thinking of that season, incorporate something that makes you have a connection with that season specifically...as in Gemme's wonderful ideas:
Examples:
The gardeners in the group could do pieces with fruits and veggies according to what season they ripen. The fashionistas could do dresses or wraps according to season or the materials used during a certain season....linen sus velvet, for example.
But if someone just put a pair of lips on the piece, that wouldn't be season specific. Your artwork can be abstract if you wish.
Important Dates:
Signup: 3/25/17 to 4/1/17
Work on projects 4/1/17 to 4/30/17
Deadline for project to be in Nanner's hands: 4/30/17
Officially late as of 5/7/17.
Send $5.00 with your project please.

This totally cracked me up today and only this thread will understand!
I was talking about my ideas for this latest project. I said for fall, I could do this, or maybe winter I could do that. I said I really hadn't thought would spring could be...
Blaze says...what about two jack rabbits fucking?
I was going , huh??? Blank stare over my face.
Hold up, I need to get that visual out of my head.

No, I mailed it regular mail in a greeting card because the items were so small. I added extra stamps of course. I've been lucky in life so far with never having a piece of mail get lost so hopefully it will suddenly surprise you in the mail, and I will be delighted to hear it!

I just dropped my projects off at the Post Office. I think this is the earliest I've had mine ready and sent. Whoah. 😮

Nothing yesterday, and I checked with the office Thursday....stay tuned after I check today's mail later. I actually have to look presentable to walk to the mailbox in my building and I am far from that currently.

Yeah cara! Will be looking forward to the delivery, thanks for the PM!
I'm going to finish mine this weekend. I've had the nastiest cold since last Sunday and if I can stop coughing long enough to set up my work space it would be good. Sighhhh....currently hot tea with honey and ginger on my agenda along with yet another nap. Wish my sweetheart were here to make me chicken soup!

Did you have them mark it non-machineable (unfortunately, this doesn't always work anyway) or have them hand cancel it or send it as a package instead of a letter? Even though the pieces are small, they might have clumped up enough to get jammed in the machines. If that's the case, you might be in a pickle.
I learned this lesson in the tea exchange. I was told they were fine as is when I mailed them out and they were marked non-machineable but still wound up getting sliced up, although I think it was the mail carriers since they were clean slices and it was nearly all of them that I sent out. Never send a loose tea bag....I think they thought it was pot. Yeah, ginger and cinnamon teas. Smoke that!

Chuckling at Tea bag smoking remark!!! Almost choked on my oatmeal!!
I almost always mark my packages "Hand Cancel, please!
I know that some of you gets a big chuckle when I write on my packages..."Do NOT fold, bend, spindle, or mutilate" on my packages, but hey, it gets them there in one piece!!!

I am sorry you are having a hard time and glad that you reached out. I very much individualized my first set which took longer of course but made them kind of extra special. In doing the second set with more limited time, I did the same style for all the cards. I like how they came out even though they are not personalized. So my advice is maybe to try doing the same. You will feel really good when you get them out.

I simply chose my season, and took to the drawing board, I doodled up my idea, and it is one of my favourite things of the season. Overthinking it tends to complicate the project. It doesn't need to be complicated. Pick a season, what is representative of that season for you? Put to paper and pretty it up! You got this!

Sorry, I am having a lot pf personal problems right now and missed the late date of 5/7/16. I can start participating in projects 11/7/14. I have added myself to the list below:
1. CCB (missed late date of 5/7/16 ab;e to participate 11/7/16)

Ami did a project a number of years ago in which she mailed each individual the same ephemera to work with and complete the project using at least a certain percentage of those supplies (not all if you didn't want).
I'd like to do the same type of thing. It would require a bit more time as I'd have to mail out to everyone before they could really begin on the project but it worked out really well last time.
Does that sound like something that would be enjoyable to you all?
If not, I have other ideas but this one has been bouncing around in my noggin for some time now and I'd like to give it a shot if there's interest.

I was thinking of having an open topic and just giving you size and material parameters but allowing the subject to be up to the participants. If that's not preferred, I would offer a more specific theme.
There's a lot of gray area with rounds like this, but that can be part of the fun. You can really let your imagination go wild and free.

Hmmmm....sending us a common denomination for a project sounds very interesting.
Here is an idea to throw out...have us go find what you want..example...use the words, title, picture of page 34 of whatever magazine.
The wrapper off of something
The resident address of junk mail
Something common that we can all get our hands on, no matter what part of the country we are in.
Just food for thought...

These are great ideas, but I wouldn't want my "resident address" label on a project...that is just my own thoughts...
For me, having all the ephemera come with is very appealing. I am "betwixt & between" for the moment....so having little to NO crafting supplies, getting them in one package is great for me...anyway, just my thoughts....

I think that there is merit in this but I want to give everyone the EXACT same supplies so that everyone is starting out with the same foundation. Same colors, same materials, same brads, same ribbon, same papers, etc.
Now....there does seem to be some interest and I am totally stoked about that, so if no one has any issues with me moving forward, I would like to do so.

With this, I'd send a package to everyone that signs up. There would be additional time in order for the package to arrive. Once everyone has their packages, the work part of it would kick in with the usual 4-ish weeks of time to complete and return to me to redistribute.
At this time, I have a theme in mind if the open theme idea scares folks. Sometimes having too much freedom can be overwhelming.
I will say that I've thought more about Besame's idea of a scavenger hunt project and I'm loving that too, but I would list things like include at least: 1 piece of washi tape, some ribbon, a button and the color blue, for example, instead of the initial ideas (though I know she was just pfa'ing it).
If the majority would prefer that style, then we can certainly do that as it's similar in nature to what I initially suggested.
Can I get a show of hands for each project, please?

I vote for the same package, same ingredients, & such for this project and all of my craft supplies are packed up & will be for next few months. I DO have some glue, some sand, and a few embellishments & stickers with me now. So, a pre packaged deal would be awesome for me. Plus I would like to see each one's individual interpretations for the identical ingredients.
I would like to add that maybe each of us chip in a couple extra bucks to the $5 we usually send, as Gemme One is packaging & mailing these items twice! Just my own humble opine...:)
BTW...what is "pfa'ing" it mean...(totally clueless butch here...:]
