Your talents are wanted here!
I've been a penpal for a few years now and have completed some artistic endeavors through group rounds with great success. I find the artistic expression of the people I've had the pleasure of knowing and corresponding with to be exemplary.
This is a thread for those who would like to connect (or reconnect) with other artistic types, whether it be by penpalling, swapping small craft projects or coming together to design new ways to share our love of pen, paper, glue and glitter.
Happy creating, all!

I used to do all of these things.
I still have boxes of magazines (like The Sun and Art Forum), special paper and nearly a house FULL of favorite pens (my favorite thing to shop for) just for this purpose. I crafted my hand-written letters with these things along with leaves, flowers, small found objects, etc.
I really should get back to it. It was a pleasure.
(Not a fan of glitter here.)

Some of my friends turned me onto Postsecret.com and I love the concept of putting one's most secret thoughts and desires onto a 3x5 or 4x6 card and revealing them to others, sometimes anonymously.
Glad to see your interest!

Could we do Valentinesque postcards? And not just about romantic love, but also about things for which we carry a madcrazywild passion? (For example....I might do a postcard with a music theme, etc.)
We could begin AFter the new year....they could be due Feb. 1st and the Wrangler could get them to everyone well before Valentine's Day.....

I really like doing the postcards, but I'd like to keep everyone's options open if they'd like to go a bit bigger or smaller. How about our topic simply being PASSION, in whatever form and variation our fellow artists would like it to be?

Okay, now that you are here (and that reminds me to mention something to Jennifer now), so let's get this ball rolling.
The first round for 2010 is based on PASSION. Whatever, whoever is your passion....then that is what you need to show us. Keep your creations as close to 4x6 as possible, please, so Diva can put your work in her scrackbook. :giggle:
The postmark should be February 1st. Let's try to be punctual, yes?
The deadline to sign up for this project is January 21st. I don't know what day it is, but I like the sound of it, so :raspberry:
If you have any questions, either Diva or I can answer them, since Diva put me in charge. Boy, are you all in TRRRRRROOOOUUUUUBBBBBLLLLLLE! :huhlaugh:

I love these projects but I don't want to hold up those of us who are punctual.
If you know you are going to have an issue with being on time, please let me know as soon as possible. I'm not a tyrant (not usually anyway) but I won't hold everyone up for one person either.

If you have any questions, either Diva or I can answer them, since Diva put me in charge. Boy, are you all in TRRRRRROOOOUUUUUBBBBBLLLLLLE! :huhlaugh:
Does this sound fair to everyone?
This is our list of signer uppers. If you have signed up on this list and cannot perform your duties as a project participant, please let us know ASAP. Several times in the past, people have bailed at the last moment (myself included), and that causes a kink in the flow of things. Now, I'm all for kinks, but not THAT kind, yanno? :spider:

In case my point hasn't been made clear.....
Today is January 30th. February 1st is the deadline to mail your goodies out to me. They MUST be postmarked by that date. No one has come to me to say they will have difficulty making that date, so I'm holding each and every one of you accountable for getting your artistic endeavors to me in time for me to repackage everyone's yummy projects and get them back to you in a reasonable amount of time.
Everyone needs to include $5 with their projects to help with the cost of reshipping them out to the other participants. If you've designed and created pieces of art that are larger or more bulky or awkward than what could be deemed a reasonable size, then please add an extra buck or two since the postage to send all of the packages out will increase also.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to seeing what everyone came up with.

You're going to Hell in a handbasket. The true cruelty? It's NOT a decorated one. Not even little streamers on the side.
*shakes head*
You're fine as long as I get them in my hands by Saturday, the 6th. Those that come after Saturday won't be included, no ifs ans or buts about it. I'm repackaging everything over the weekend and will mail them out first thing Monday morning (Feb. 8th). If something is in my mail on Monday, tough tomatoes.
I didn't used to be this way, but I know I'm not the only wrangler frustrated with folks who blatantly lie and say, "It's in the mail!" (I'm not a debt collector, people!) or "I'm working on it! It's coming...etc" and then NOTHING comes from them. Ever.
There is one person like that who signed up for this project. I hope that that person comes through this time or I will....if Diva and you all ever let me wrangle again that is....automatically take them OFF of any project I wrangle in the future. I will also call this person out for wasting my time, both as a wrangler and as a participant, as well as wasting everyone else's time too since they made a piece of work for that person. Not to mention that it's just not FAIR to any of us who did take the time and effort to complete the round.
Now, understand that I'm saying this after YEARS of this behavior. Years. Not just one or two projects. Years.
So, no....being a day behind won't hurt you. Just please make sure that it arrives no later than 5 days from now or 4 working days from now. :)

Nope. I've done that before and it's just not fair to the rest of the participants. Besides, if we wait too long, the anticipation dies down and that's not fair either. I like that part the BEST I think! :)

I'm sure you did great softness. It was my first time participating too and it was a little intimidating for me as well especially since I'm sure mine is less paper and more something else. I think its more so about just sharing your creativity with everyone no matter how it comes out and in what form. It is art after all and left open for interpretation.

Mine went into Monday's mail.....so soon, I'm hoping! :D I can't wait to see everyone's creations!
Actually, I got yours today, gorgeous, and they made me teary.
Beautiful!
this was my first time (blushing over how that sounds..LOL) and I hope I did ok...I dont know how involved you all got into your craft and I tried to do something nice but not overboard. Please give me feedback..!!! I want to be an active member of this so I need to know what is expected or what is the norm..k?
Softness, it's not about what's the 'norm' around these parts. It's whatever fits in the parameters given by the wrangler and what you come up with. Nothing illegal or dangerous, of course. What you did was lovely!
I've fallen kinda hard for the "card" type of project. Throw in my recent recycle, reuse, reduce phase and you all are receiving other people's MAIL....only in my style. So, I took postcards and flyers and whatnot that came to my work and home and I played with paint and all kinds of good, crafty stuff and...well....you'll see it when you get it. It's definitely not going to be exhibited in a museum one day, but it's fun and easy for me to do and won't cost a bazillion to mail.
I'm sure you did great softness. It was my first time participating too and it was a little intimidating for me as well especially since I'm sure mine is less paper and more something else. I think its more so about just sharing your creativity with everyone no matter how it comes out and in what form. It is art after all and left open for interpretation.
I can't wait til folks see yours! I wonder if it will take them as long as it did me to actually "see" what you'd done. :giggle: No telling, though! They are going to have to figure things out themselves or ask you once all the packages go out.
Hello Crafty Ones. I am not so good with the crafts. I want to be! I am going to read this thread from the beginning so I can understand what to do. My question though is Gemme you are going to the reunion? Could we plan a couple of hours to get crafty there? That would be super fun!
Hi, Julie! No need to go back to the beginning, unless you just feel like it. We're coming to the end of the current project. Soon, Miss Diva will announce the next project, as she is the designated wrangler. I, however, am on call for her if some of you ruffians get out of hand. :eyebrow:
So, bear with us for a week or so and we'll have a sign up for the new project. I think I'm safe saying that we would all love to have you participate!
As for doing something like this at the reunion, that is certainly feasible. I will be driving down, so I could bring some basic goodies with me in my car or someone could mail a box of their supplies to the hotel too. It's possible. Maybe we can revisit this idea a little later? I think it has promise.
Ami, I got the card today!
Cara, I didn't receive your work yet, but I had to go into work waaaay earlier than I expected today. It may very well be waiting for me when I get off. Or tomorrow. I'm not worried as long as it makes it way to me before Saturday afternoon! :)

It helps if you look at it from a distance gemme but I will leave it at so I don't spoil it for anyone else. However you should try it some time. I've made coasters and others have made jewelry and clocks etc with that style.

Hmm...I sent it via first class mail on Monday @ 5:50:55. So, it probably went out in Tuesday's mail. I think it's interesting that mail from farther away is taking less time to get to you than mine from only a few zip codes away. What's up with that? Hope I addressed the package correctly! :|

I love this idea, Miss Diva Extraordinaire!
Just got back from the post office. sorry was a little late but i have not been out of the house till today......Rain..:rainsing:
Thank you for letting us know, Rain. If something like this happens again, please just pm the wrangler a little sooner, okay?
If everyone is okay with waiting another day, I can hold the packages until I receive Rain's work.
Today I received purepisces (gorgeous and I love that you already assigned who they are to go to...less work, yanno!) and cara's. Cara, the problem was that there was postage due and I didn't get the card until today. A whopping .34! But I got them and they are beeeee u tee full! Whoever it was that helped you (a site member? friend? family? scrapbooker extraordinaire?) did great too! Your's is like mine, only yours is what I might deem "sophisticated". Mine's kinda rough around the edges, but I like that way. ;)
Now that I know Rain's is in the mail, I am still waiting on:

I know I am very disappointed that there are so many projects that haven't come in yet. I'd like to remind everyone to consider whether they are ACTUALLY going to send something out before they put their name down on a list. We, as participants, take your word....your honor....that you will participate too and so we take extra time, make extra effort and spend extra money to make sure there are enough items for everyone. I think it's terribly rude to sign up and then not send anything or let anyone know if you are having difficulties.
It honestly bothers me enough to not want to do any more projects with people who haven't 'proven' themselves, yanno? Why waste my time and energy when it's obvious that nearly half the people that sign up don't give a damn? Or maybe I just take this more seriously than most people. I dunno. I just know it sucks like Hoover on acid.

Once I get yours and divvy it up, I'l send the new, fully loaded with goodies packages out to everyone that day if I can get to the post office before work.

On a separate note, hippie contacted me. She's been ill and not at home for a while. As she expressed interest in still sending out her goodies to you all, I recommended that she get our addies when she is ready to do that, so that we will still get a chance to share her work and she won't feel pressured to push herself to finish them and send them out before she's ready.
So, keep in mind that, at a later date, she will need the addies of those that participated in the Passions round to get her finished work out to you all. Also, keep her in your thoughts for a speedy healing.

For those that don't know, Diva makes beautiful pottery! It would be a lovely and unexpected additon to our basket. :)
Okay, Passions round participants!!! Those who sent me your goodies....:giggle:.....I loved EVERYTHING you did! It seems that, as diverse as we are as individuals and as a community, we have some similar passions. Family is big as is the arts. We're so talented! :cheesy:
I got Rain's work this afternoon and will be sending the packages out tomorrow. If I don't have anyone's addy (for whatever reason), I'll pm you or take it from the package you sent me.
If you do NOT want me to send one of your pieces to hippie, please pm me and let me know. This is your work and will be distributed as you all see fit.
Since we had a surprisingly high number of participants bail on us, obviously there will be leftover pieces. Tommi, I think it's best if I send your leftovers back to you but if anyone else would like theirs back, please let me know by pm TODAY (I most likely won't have internet access tomorrow, so now's the chance to let me know what you'd like me to do or not do with your work). Otherwise, if I don't hear anything different, I will divvy it up so we will receive more than one piece by the same person.
Even though this round didn't quite turn out how I expected it to, I have been very pleased with the work sent in and very proud of my fellow penpallers and crafty types. You all do beautiful work and it's been a pleasure to wrangle this round for you that showed me a different (or more personal) part of you.
Please don't forget to pull the green string on Ami's work! I can't remember off the top of my head if she has instructions on the pieces or not, but I do remember that she posted a reminder a while back. :)

I think that Logicaly's and Rainbowchick's work is the most likely to break out of everyone's and, if that happens, please let me know. I opted to keep the extras so that, if that happens, you can pm me and I'll get another one out to you.
The package to hippie hasn't gone out yet as I still need to get some info from her but everyone else that sent something should have their goodies in the next 3-4 business days.
