Good afternoon to my fellow Singles,
Well I'm also sick; I had a doctor come down to see me yesterday and I got the most wonderful gift a girl could ever ask for (not!) ............ I am stuck with bronchitis! I got meds and such so I'm good but this cough is brutal and I just don't feel well so I am going to be trying to get alot of rest today but I still wanted to stop by and say Happy Valentine's Day to everyone here :)
Hello. I am new to this site. How is everyone on this fine Singles Awareness Day?
I have heard that 3 times now im curious why is today called single awareness day? I have been single for some time now and i do not believe i have ever heard this before today.

my guess is because it's a day that you are definitely reminded that you are single!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm happy for others but all the pictures and stuff does get hard for some one that doesn't have it so after awhile seeing it all does get a little brutal!

Singles Awareness Day... Yeah it does make singles very aware of not having a sweetie on Valentine's Day. But I'm grateful for really good friends right now!

it really wasn't that hard for me, i guess i just stopped paying attention to things like this a long time ago.
the ideal valentines day for me would be to go out and take some food to local homeless people or buy some blankets and hand them out..that would put a smile on my face. of course helping people puts a smile on my face anyway i do what i can when i can.

It is a great feeling and it is fulfilling sometimes people just need someone to talk to or even just the kindest gesture can go so far.

Yes it is painful when you breath, cough, sneeze, get out of bed etc..There's nothin that can be done for broken ribs, you have to let them heal on their own :( I'll try my best not to lift anything either

Single people who are unattached are left out of the party every Feb. 14. But a new study indicates a way that lonely singles can at least increase their likelihood of not being alone next Valentine's Day; by buying a home. Home owners, the study indicates, get more dates than renters. But it is not by a massive amount. Source of article: Love and the home owner (https://personalmoneynetwork.com/moneyblog/2012/02/14/love-homeownership/). I posted this here because as what the title said, "Singles". So I'm expecting that no one here is in a relationship right now. I'm new here anyway.

I've bought so much stuff at Ikea lately I ought to be embarrassed. I got a new wrought-iron bed that I love with the fancy slats that took five hours to put together, a bookcase, a side table, a desk. Later I got some dishes and bedding. Today, I want to maybe get lamps, another desk (a tall one that I can use as a cutting table), some organizey boxes (you know the ones), and this Audrey Hepburn print I saw. I love Ikea! :)

Hi again ruby,
No need to be embarassed I would be right there with you buying everything in sight. I am like that with Bed, Bath, and Beyond as well. It sounds likes you have bought some wonderful things. Yes, I do know the boxes you are talking about, chuckles. My bed was like that as to how much time it took to put it together. However, once I did - it was worth all of those hours. :)

Ooh, Crate & Barrel. We don't have that in Vancouver, but I used to love that store when I lived in San Francisco! We have a fun store up here called HomeSense, that's everything for your place you could ever want- fancy cooking stuff, decor, plush towels and bedding.

Okay, I'm coming in here to take a break!
I just got home from the store where I picked up some kids' clothing to donate this weekend, now i'm doing laundry and experimenting with gluten-free cooking, which is boggling my mind. There's wheat in EVERYTHING!!!
Tomorrow I head to the city after work to interview someone for my next feminist blog article, then Saturday morning I"m volunteering at a children's outreach program, then going to a dance party fundraiser for the Philly Rollergirls.
I'm exhausted just reading about it.
What are you all up to this weekend? :)

Ferret,
We have had a very odd winter. I'll never for get the storm we had Jan.13th. My best friend of 40 some years was out side in the bad storm. She fell in a snow bank and froze to death. I really miss her. We was going to start having coffee with each othere. She was the typ she didn't care if you was a Lesbian she would still care about you. A typ of Christian you loved to be around. The last time I saw her she was danceing with her hubbie. Back in my olden days her and I where drinking buddys. Well, life goes on.

Yes, it's been an odd winter in Ohio too! First snow, then a day later temps in the 50's-60's. But some years I wonder if spring is non-existent too!

Poor Rook. The weather is actually decent in the Louisville area today. The snow has melted, and being able to run around without any jacket at all is pretty darn nice. I have to say, however, that I'm more than ready for spring and for the weather to make up its damn mind.

beautiful weather here - - near Detroit. Out and about earlier but inside cleaning house now.
Most of the time I don't mind being single. But every once in a while I get tired of it. I'd love to have someone to talk to about stuff, to have someone there, to be there for someone.
I've tried putting myself out there but it just never seems to work out. *sigh*

Rook, you know what they say about Ohio....if you don't like the weather, wait a little bit and it will change! lol.
I miss having someone too, but sometimes it's ok too. It's the days when I am "so" worked up "internally", that I really miss having someone....have to take "matters in my own hands" so to speak.
Yeh, being single does have its major perks....
Don't have to be careful not to 'appreciate' a beautiful lady walkin by...
Don't hafta worry that you're flirting too much for someone's taste....
Don't have to place a bet you're sleeping on the couch for a week or more simply cuz u asked someone out for a beer......
Don't have to worry the Game u wanna watch is gonna be cancelled due to the inevitable Season Finale of 'Desperate Housewives' or 'Law & Order'....
No squabbles over what to eat...or where to eat it....
No worrying about pissing a person off simply cuz well....they're moody....{that time of month, where's the chocolate ?!?!?!}
Bad side of it?
A pillow doesn't quite cuddle back...
It's actually more fun to eat With someone.
Healthy debates on idiotic stuff like 'which Owl is cuter', or 'Why a particular Ferret is overtly aggressive towards one and a total baby with another' (same for cats or dogs)....
Going out alone can be an unpleasant adventure...{this must be a personal thing...I visit some places cuz it's fun to observe, NOT cruising, kthnxbai}
A shower can be far more Interesting with company(hehe).....
A decent excuse to spend 2 fuggin hours shoppin for food.
No need to 'appreciate' whatever/whomever walks by....
Another excuse to spend hours within a Florist shop..heh
Yep, the joys of being QuirkyAlone in Ohio {it's sunny at the moment, btw}

There are lots of little "misses" but for me the big one seems to be feeling like someone especially cares to love me up if I've had a no-good very bad day. I carry a lot of responsibility in my day to day life and knowing I can just let go and let down the in charge place and be nurtured and safe is a huge one for me.
Even though I'm starting to date a little that type of trust and intimacy takes a while to really grow and usually comes about from feeling that a relationship is deepening.

For me, being single the last 2 years has given me the opportunity to get a clear head, again.
Now that I have done that, I can open my heart to others.
I don't mind being single, but I miss the company of a partner.
As much as I love my rescues, I miss not having someone to talk to at home.
I can eat alone, but miss cooking and sharing meals with another.
For as much as it's great waking up alone some days, it would be great waking with someone, too.
Knowing I can be independent and not co-dependent is something I am relearning that I lost somewhere along the way in my last relationship.
Have a great weekend singles :)

These folks do sound very awesome and amazing don't they!
I'm a year out of a 14 year relationship (well technically two as the last year we cohabitated we had gone into room-mate mode) so just now putting my toes back into the dating pool. Most of the singles here live quite aways from me and I'm not sure if a LDR would work for me. I know reading other threads that people have made it work for them, and Zimmeh I see you gave it a try.

Been in one and it worked. It did end but not because of the distance. Whether someone lives down the road; or across the country, it really does depend on the people involved in the relationship.
Few more weeks and I'll be enjoying that beautiful weather!

This is why I ended my last relationship. I felt like I had hopped onto that co-dependency hamster wheel,again.. and one day I looked at her and said that I wanted to move out.. I need to know I can make it on my own.. I need to know that the changes I'm making in me are for me and not for someone else b/c that's how she/he wants me to be.

I've been in a couple and, as Timil said, the longevity of the relationships had nothing to do with the distance although, honestly, dating local is so much easier (unless you break up). Basically, it is what you make of it.
I'm recently out of a relationship that initially started long distance but quickly moved to a local thing, so we didn't have much of the stressors that came with LDRs.
Some of the perks of LDRs:
receiving packages in the mail
phone sex
Skype/webcam (you can control the lighting if you are having a bad hair day, etc)
the 'knowing' that someone, somewhere is thinking about you and thinks you are important

I've found it really hard to find any single lesbians in Kentucky, so I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to an LDR. For all I know, the "one" could be down the road from me or in another state. I suppose if that person was a 2-4 hour drive instead of a 7 hour drive would be a little more do-able, but who knows. I'm pretty much open to anything at this point.

Being in Oklahoma, odds are I'll end up in an LDR. That's fine by me though, the possibility of moving away from here again sometime is appealing to me anyway.
The worst downside is if you get insecure. You wonder what they are doing or if they feel the same way.
The upside is it can keep you from moving too fast and you get so much time to really just talk instead of making out all the time. If you live really far apart, you get to have fun adventures meeting in between. :girlonatv:

Awww, KerrieH, I am sooo sorry. I know the feeling and I know it does get better. Just hang in there and take it one day at a time. Stick close to your friends. There are many of us on here that will lend an ear. {{{Hugs}}} to you....

Hi everyone, hopefully it's not too late to join into this group. I am new to the site and very grateful to have found a community of support.
About me, I am widowed for almost 2 years now, the first year was impossible and than I woke up and started living again. I am now single but have important people in my life. But not that ONE important person.
I currently live in Alberta, Canada but I am moving to BC in June, so starting all over again on my own.
Most of the time I really enjoy being single and some would say I have the best life. I have my place to myself, my children are grown and gone, I have a great male friend who spends the night occasionally I have a wonderful female friend (who I love) that spends the night occasionally and the rest of the time I have for myself, my friends and the work I do.
I am an artist and writer and really try to enjoy life.
However, I find there are times when I really miss having that one person, the person to hold you when you just need holding, the person you can come home at the end of the day to and they just know you well enough to see that you need to discuss something or not. The one person who is always there when you need them and that one person I can be there for.
I am at a point in my life where I am connecting more to the female energy and would love to find a woman to share my life with.
Okay, this wasn't meant to be a personal ad, I just wanted to share a bit about myself.
I look forward to getting to know people here and learning more about how we all cope with the day to day work of being single.
Thanks, L (w)

Hi Singles,
My oh my its gorgeous weather out this time of the year, which is NOT like the normal march weather here in Winnipeg. Usually we are dealing with snow drifts, blizzards, winter jackets/hats/scarves/mitts etc and now here we are there is NO snow whatsoever and I was outside not long ago with shorts and a tank top on. I'm pretty much back to being single but I think its best for now; I'm working on getting a job and concentrating on losing weight so those things are more important to me right now than being with someone. It'll happen when its meant to happen, for now I am happy with just being able to get my life back on track and once it is I will be then ready to walk a path with someone who will love me for who I am ~ nothing more and nothing less!
Zimmeh ~ You honey are one of the most awesome women I've had the privilege of getting to know and I'm very glad that you have found someone ........... YOU totally deserve it :-)
Hell we all deserve to find love, and when we do it'll be worth the wait :heartbeat:

I've started to think that maybe I'll never find who/what I'm looking for. I realize that no one person can be everything, but that doesn't mean you have to settle. Maybe the best thing I can do is just NOT look; however, there are times when I think it would really be nice to have someone around to share things with...My other half, I suppose.

I went to nowandthen's birthday party in Seattle yesterday. What fun! I love the intelligence mixed with compassion and a pure soul that makes Tee such a fine butch.

The best way to talk to someone is just chit chat, don't jump into how gorgeous they are right away. Every time you are at the station stop for a few minutes to just chat and say hi, ask them about themselves. Turn on the flirt a little but don't over do it. Just be yourself. If you ask an open ended question they are forced to chat a bit as opposed to a grunt or a nod. Good Luck

I love Spring... even if today there is a foot of snow that wasn't there last night. But, I know it will be gone in a day or two.
But with Spring in the air, all the horny girls are out, including me.
I have a date this weekend with someone I met on Saturday, I wasn't even flirting because I thought she was with someone. When she asked for my number I questioned her and she explained (straight friend). So... something to look forward to this weekend. I am excited, feels like forever since I have been on a date. Oh, maybe because it has been.
She is super sweet and really cute... wish me luck.

So as a "date" I would have to say it was ok, but I guess my idea of a "date" is different then some others.
If I am "dating" someone I want to get to know them to see how compatible we are together, what we have in common, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a prude. I'm not opposed to sleeping with someone right away if that is what has been mutually decided, but if you want to get to know me don't jump me as soon as you get me alone. That's not dating in my books.
I sent her on her way the first night telling her I wanted to get to know her and see where things might go and the very next day she jumped me again so I figured what the F* and decided to go for it.
Yes, it made for a fun afternoon, but now in my mind she has been relegated to F* Buddy as opposed to someone to get to know.
Am I alone in this thinking? Is this the norm now a days, it's been a while since I have "dated".

happy hump day friends. Feeling a little down today. Having trouble with my wrist so I went to the dr. She thinks it may actually be a problem with my neck. I already have neck trouble so something new isn't welcome. I had xrays today because insurance demands it, but it won't show anything. Xrayed my neck and my wrist. Next week I see a hand surgeon, and in early may I see my neck dr. Then they will send me for an mri. Wish they would just look at the xray results and schedule the mri that we all know is going to be nessassary. Save me 2 days pay in dr visits. We shall see.
Night all,

How is everyone????
So glad to hear that some people are no longer single.
To all the singles, you are not alone. I think we all are looking for that special person to fulfill our lives. Just because two people are single does not mean they want to be with each other. And others will settle because they do not want to be alone.
If there is anyone who is truly lonely and you would like to chat sometime let me know. We are a community and need to be there for each other.
And now my lame joke.... I was out to lunch with a friend of mine and her daughter Mia. The waitress took our orders and then the waitress asked Mia, who had her teddy bear with her, if teddy wanted anything to eat. Mia replied" No thanks, he is stuffed!!!!

turns out the pain in my hand is partially, a nerve problem in my elbow. Dr wants to take care of the elbow and see what happens to the wrist. MRI didn't show anything in the wrist. Most likely a small tear they can't see. If it doesn't calm down, they may go in and "do some scraping" ouch! will schedule surgery for elbow soon. Still have neck dr to see. For now, had cortizone shots today. Almost passed out from the second one on my wrist. dr said the med affected my diabetes.
Sister and her wife have been visiting from Alaska. Neighbors rotty jumped the fence and bit my sisterinlaw. Had to report it. Police had to come out. Now they are claiming we are harrassing them... uhhh really?? Police don't believe him. Rotty was not registered so he is being slapped with a fine. Has to provide proof of up to date shots. They will not put in a new fence (of course he told the cop he would) bc he is out of work (always out of work) and can't afford it. REALLY??? and we can?? Have to do it in order to keep my 72 year old mother and my little Bella safe. Thanks God for a home depot credit card and a family friend who will let us pay him on time for the labor and not charge us much as it is.

Yes, it made for a fun afternoon, but now in my mind she has been relegated to F* Buddy as opposed to someone to get to know.
Am I alone in this thinking? Is this the norm now a days, it's been a while since I have "dated".
i had something similar happen recently, but i told her to kick rocks instead! :p (i felt like my boundaries weren't being respected) and i agree... there's nothing wrong with getting physical right away, if it's mutually agreed upon.
dating is rough sometimes. smh

Anyone in the Kelowna BC area? I'm just moving there and will need friends as I am leaving everyone behind.
Also on a separate note. Has anyone had any luck with pinksofa.com ?

I was on pinksofa..it kept matching me with my *insert non-complimentary word* ex, and I did not like the 'feel' of the site.
Alas I am not single, very much far from it.. I just wanted to post some encouragement. I was not looking when I found my partner. Far from it, as was she, and we had our up's and down's and baggage to work through - but if it feels right to you, stick with it. It's too easy to give up, but that doesn't make it right.
I feel the need to emphasize: communicate! You aren't a mind reader nor are they, and passive-aggressive is not always the best way to do things (though goddess knows I do it). If you can't speak about it, write it out. Leave it for them when you're not around if you need to express it without looking at them. But no matter what, communicate. Don't hold it in. It makes relationships a lot smoother, and you have a better idea of what you are getting into :) This goes for friendship as well, of course.
Good luck in love dear Planeteers :bunchflowers:
