I love love love spending time with my four year old grandson!!! and this afternoon was no exception. He is such a good little boy, loveable and so smart.

We spent the afternoon doing jigsaw puzzels, chatting and cleaning up the playroom which was an absolute disaster area! While we were cleaning, sorting and putting things in their proper place and container I was talking to him about only playing with a few toys at a time, putting them away in their proper place before getting out more toys to play with. The moral of the story is that it took an hour to find all the parts of his favorite new game Spill the Beans. We put all the beans into a baggie which went into the box with the rest of the parts. He thought that was amazing!!!!

We also cleaned up the bedroom and made the beds. It was rather messy in there and he was so proud of his room when we were done.

We had fried chicken (delicious), black beans and rice, salad and corn bread muffins. There was eight for Sunday dinner and I really enjoyed myself.

Ok this has never happened to me before . I just moved into this house 3 months ago. Today as I was painting the cabinets in my bathroom my doorbell rang. It was this cute little 12 yrd old girl with long hair and braces on her teeth, holding a rake. She told me her name and that she lived 4 houses down from me, and she wanted to make some Christmas money and did I need my yard raked. WHAT!!!! I almost fainted. A kid who wants to work for money??? Really ? So I said heck yeah you can rake my yard how much do you charge , she said I don't know, how much do you think? I said 20 bucks sound good? That gave her a big smile. So I ran to the atm cos I never have cash, and got her money came back and she was almost done. I am busy working on remodeling the inside of my house , so I just gave her the money and said, can I trust you to finish if I pay you now? She said I always finish what I start. What a good kid!!!! What a great work ethic. I used to have to do that when I was a kid. Mow yards, shovel snow, rake leaves for money, only no one ever wanted to pay. I'd knock on 60 doors and get 60 no's. Finally someone would say yes. Mow their grass and trim their hedges weed eat and they'd give you a quarter. :seeingstars:

My teaching technique was pretty unconventional. We often used this phrase in our discussions. It was pretty common for me to (literally) toss the lesson plan over my shoulder and talk instead about their lives using this to encourage them to care about and pray for each other. Things we youth leaders were supposed to teach the kids.

I smiled tonight when watching ABC's 20/20. There was an amazing 7 year old girl singing her heart out and the sound of her voice made the hairs stand up on my arms!!! and tears came when they showed a home video of this same little girl at 3 years old watching her mother die of ovarian cancer! A friend of a friend taught me something new yesterday. HDMI cable and what it is capable of. I am in awe. I have a new laptop with HD and a new flat screen HDTV and with this cable I can now watch all sorts of movies, tv episodes, etc through the net but have it appear on my tv!!! And can use said tv for a monitor which is much larger than the laptop. Technology rocks!!! And the cable is cheap 20 bucks at Wal Mart!!
So that made me smile!!!

I made the choice of living on a working horse farm for years, your moment reminded me og their smell. I've been blessed with the gift of being able to have a horse underhand. One of my most favorite memory. Feeling of love, scents is horses.

Their eyes are the most depth and stotyfilled eyes I've ever had the honor to gaze into.

I spent the afternoon with family putting up their christmas tree. The best part once again was hanging out with the little ones under the age of 4. the baby who is 18 mts old was really into putting those balls on the tree. I spent 45 minutes just with him; putting the hook on the ornaments and holding him up so he could fasten them on the tree. He was delightful and so sweet. I could not believe he hung in there with me till all the ornaments were on the tree. What a beautiful lil boy!

Thinking about.....wondering....possibly planning what I might do for my New Year's celebration.

Remembering my most favorite New Year makes me smile. The way it started out was kind of tough and disappointing, but the way it ended was very beautiful and unexpected and a once in a life time kind of thing.

Had it not been for the bad way it started, it wouldn't have ended in a good way. I guess things do happen for a reason? Most often, anyway.

I had moved in with my BEST Buddy, Dale, because I had lost my job after 9/11. To this day, I am very thankful for Dale and the time we spent as best friends. Dale had promised me that he would host my very first New Year's Party - in a place where he had made me feel like it was MY home too, even if temporary - and a big birthday party. I didn't want him to go to the trouble.... but thought it was a nice break after a stressful job search to celebrate a New Year filled with new possibilities and promises.

While we were at the party, his ex-girlfriend called and said she was on her way over.... he, three sheets to the wind, came to me and asked me to leave because he "was afraid I would clean her clock". I didn't have a problem with her or any of his girlfriends. But he knew I was fiercely protective of him and I considered him family. (He knew me better than that.... he knew I would only give her a BIG right cross if she swung at me first! :weightlifter: :training: .... and he knew it wouldn't be a fight...she'd act like a fool and I'd just huff at her and look the other way.)
He asked this about 30 minutes before midnight.... I had bought special champagne, the house was filled with quests eating birthday cake and for the first time in my life, I had been excited about New Years. But when he asked me to leave home because he was afraid his ex would cause a scene, I was heartbroken and quietly got my keys and left, tears in my eyes that I didn't let him see. To keep the peace and because I cared about him, I left. It was his house, after all.

I had no clue where to go.... 30 minutes from New Years and living so far out in the country. Most of the main streets of the nearest town were closed off because of their "First Night" celebration with fireworks.... so I went to the top of a nearby mountain that had an "overlook" (about 15 minutes from the house) and I sat up there with the car running to keep warm. The whole time, fighting back tears. I was just going to wait up there till dawn.

I never thought I would see such a beautiful sight.....

You know, how sometimes you "Wish on a Star"??

Well..... I had STUNNING fireworks to wish on!! It's not every day that you go to see fireworks and you are sitting UP ABOVE the display! My mountain overlook had a bird's eye view of New Year's fireworks from 4 different towns and 1 metro-size city!! It was SO BEAUTIFUL and a very UNIQUE sight!! The nearest town started off first....then 3 more in the distance...then the HUGE BLAST of a finale over the city. I was so far up the mountain, that I couldn't hear the BOOMS.... but the sights and colors were stunning. I felt like a little kid enjoying her cotton candy and first fireworks. That "AWE" feeling.

How many people have ever seen 5 fireworks displays all at the same time? And from the top of a mountain? Quickly, my smile dried up the tears and positive thoughts replaced the heartache and hurt.

After the fireworks were over, I went back HOME with forgiveness in my heart and a beautiful memory of something very unique.

Shortly into the New Year, my wishes did come true....I "accidentally" acquired a job that launched a wonderful career in Health Care and Human Services, I found a LOVELY apartment that had a beautiful view of a small river, waterfall and a 200 year old red Mill and I got to spend real quality time with my son.

Tonight, the memory of those fireworks and the positive things that happened in the New Year made me smile.

This year, I'm not sure what I'll do for New Year's.... I think I might find a mountain overlook and watch some stars? But I'll make sure I take some hot cocoa this time to go with my cotton candy!!

It was really yesterday... but I figured I would share today as I was busy last night...
My dad showing me how to flush my radiator... now I won't have to spend a crazy amount of money for someone else to do it...

Yesterday was just a great day. I got to see my best pal and she gave me a cool new cap!!! Then my neice came in from France for xmas and we had a Thanksgiving dinner for her. Then we decorated xmas cookies. It was really funny because in the past we would have slapped the icing on em and then doused them with sprinkles or whatever. But this year we were all artisans. We even used toothpicks to apply some of the sprinkles. We dedicated them with people's names in icing ontop of icing (challenging!!!). And the cookies that didn't look like much of nothing - I think they were supposed to be angels were made into a bunny and a pig. One was supposed to be a bell but it looked more like a badge so I wrote KPD and tried to make a star but the icing slide off - but nonetheless it was a blast!!!!!!!

What made me smile today? Titan's win!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

for those who are baking hams & turkeys etc this year...wait until the grease is mostly cooled...pour into your container. Add bird seed. Freeze.

Using a knife, cut out a three sided opening down to the level the food is at, and fold the flap down. I duct taped my down. I creased the edge some to make support for the birds to perch on.

as they eat down the food and suet, use the flap to cut down more of the plastic so they can reach.

Serving lunch today to the staff and clients of the adult services organization in my office building. Every year my boss treats the staff and their clients to a Christmas lunch. We look forward to it as much as they do. The clients are some of the sweetest and most wonderful people. The gentleman who said the blessing this afternoon gave thanks for my boss and her little dog (they consider him their mascot). After lunch they gave my boss a card signed by everyone and a fruit basket - she struggled not to cry.

1)..this elderly couple that comes in for pizza 2-3 times a month came in...very sweet couple..been together forever..she comes in after him and hands me a gift wrapped item and said "Merry Christmas" was totally unexpected but made me smile from ear to ear.

2) later on in the afternoon these 2 older ladies(both grandmas to the little 4 y.o boy that was with them.....the older lady was looking for some "real chicken",but the little boy wanted pizza so i knelt down(yanno so we were eye to eye) and asked him his name. "Nahim" he said quietly. So i asked him if he would like to make his own pizza..his eyes lit up like a christmas tree.....fast forward to pizza being done,boxed and handed to him..he handed to his grandma and came towards me,i bent down and he gave me the biggest hug and said "thank you..this is the best gift ever" moments like today is what keeps me putting up with all the bullshit!
