A friend from high school told me this one just a few minutes ago, and I started laughing. I'd heard it before, and being from NC, I can vouch for how some stories get started on the porch swing over an iced tea or a beer.... but I couldn't NOT share it for those who know some Southerners and might not have had the chuckle.

Going with a few of the kids from the children's home to a local shoe shop. Miss 6 Year old kept on going for the sparkly shoes with heels. "No, not until you're a big girl." Yeah, I'm a meanie.

The three girls got a pair of sandals and sports shoes (cheap ones, but better than nothing) and the boys each got a pair of sports shoes.

I had such a great day today! I had a meeting with my boss and HR at work and told my case about being bullied and I stood my ground with them. They didn't do their job and really didn't have a leg to stand on.

Then I went and got my nails done and met a girl that's on The Bold and the Beautiful. Her real name is Jackie but I think her last name on the show is Forrester, but I can't remember her first name. She drives a motorcycle on the show. She was really nice. We talked for nearly an hour while we got our nails done. I thought that was pretty cool.

Then I went and picked out the new colour that I'm going to paint my bedroom.(yes Jagg, I'm painting again! lol)

And last but not least, we picked up pizza tonight so I didn't have to cook!

Coming out at work. For femmes it can sometimes be quite trying in straight company when everyone just assumes you are straight as well. They want to talk about your husband, boyfriend, etc and it's just a wicked web to get all tied up in if you don't catch it from the beginning or as soon as an opportunity presents itself. Then after you do come out, there is a comfort level and relaxation where you're not walking on eggshells and tripping over your own shoelaces. It was a good day.

A friend gave me the entire Harry Potter series (all hardback copies) by JK Rowling. *toe curling glee* I admit it: I'm a big kid at heart! This is one of those series that I always said if I were ever fortunate enough one day to be a Daddy/Stepdad/Grandpa that I'd want to share with the kids.

I actually used to love reading aloud to my former partner. She'd cuddle into me, and I'd read to her until her breathing changed (sleeping). I'd kiss her goodnight, and the next night, we'd pick up where she could remember, sometimes a chapter back.

I also loved reading to my nephews and nieces. My BFF growing up, she and her kids stayed with me over a month while their mom worked out some issues. Her kids wanted to hear the Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris that the show TRUEBLOOD is based on, some content which is not appropriate for kids. The youngest one, her nine-year old daughter, loved "Sookie", and her older boys loved the vampires and werewolves.

Story time consisted of my reading, getting to the more mature content, pausing, and saying things to the effect of: "and then they went off to do some adult stuff" which was often met with chuckles, and later, a short conversation with the little girl:

Sonya: "Uncle Nicholas, it's okay. I know all about sex."
Me: "Well. Yeah. You're a smart girl. But how about we not break my brain and just let me pretend that you don't and that you're going to be pure and innocent and remain a virgin until you're at least 30, ok?"

This earned me a laugh, an eye roll, and a head shake.

...But I still refused to read them the adult content. :)

So my ex sends me a text this morning, is in her new condo in Texas, and is decorating her new place. Before, her décor has always been brightly colourful, eclectic. I always joked with her that her closet and decorating style looks like a SKITTLES bag exploded-- colour and energy ALLLLLLLL over the place. Almost TOO vibrant. Friends always enjoyed coming over because there was always this colourful, welcoming energy but with a "warmth" about the place when our styles "collided"-- her kind of "over the top" style muted and conditioned by my softer use of colours and tones and combinations.

She sent the following:

Hey, so I need your gay side. I'm gonna send you a pic of my dining area and I need to know if I need black curtains (yuk!) or beige or what the hell! [Her stepmother] got me a really nice dining room set and I don't wanna fuck it up! Cuz left to my own devices it will be bright and colorful and... Not classy. I don't know what made me laugh harder: the fact that she calls my ability to decorate my "gay side"; that although I can be "lewd, crude, and sociably unacceptable", the way I decorate is classier; or that she perceives me as "normaler" than her. But either way, it gave me a good chuckle.

As I stretch and prepare to head off to an appointment this morning, I smiled remembering last night:

Saw some friends I hadn't had a chance to see face to face in a few months and hold their new baby boy. And he's such a handsome little guy-- joked with them: "Okay, I totally see Nadine in this equation, but uh, Kody, how the hell did YOU have a part in making something this cute?" :D Was comforting to know that even as fussy as he gets in the early evenings, he was so calm in my arms. I love kids; I go 0 to "sap" in like 1.8 seconds.

Went to a Munch (lifestyle gathering in a public venue for general socializing) and saw some old friends and met some new ones. Laughed my ass off and was threatened about five times for putting "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts (Merv Griffin) - YouTube" in someone's head-- she was stressed and told me she needed the laugh. The more "irritated" she got, the cuter it was, standing there all mock-pissed. I kissed her on the nose and was met with a peck on the lips which made ME laugh.

ALMOST died my hair "Blue Envy" last night, but the bleaching part takes a while. We're planning on Sunday, early afternoon instead.

Several phone calls and a few texts from a friend who I'd wished could have been there made me smile.

Went to see a movie with a new friend from FL.
The second we got there there was a butchie in Sheriff's uniform.
She was going out of her way to be a part of our time before and after the movie.
After the movie I gave a little giggle and asked if she could take a picture of us.
It was a fun moment ... Felt good ... and we all (well friends do) know I have a thing for uniforms!!!
It's just nice to be out and actually be seen. :)

Waking up feeling rested and peaceful with lots of energy, my saturday morning trip to the market to barter my services and drink lots of strong fair trade coffee, friendly faces and conversations with vendors, regular customers, txts exchanged with a friend letting them know that I am thinking of them and describing my attire for the day, lunch with my boss, finding awesome new exotic spices and hangout locations like the hookah bar/egyptian deli, a hike to find the perfect maple trees for tapping and just feeling happy and floating in my daydreams!!!!!

The first roses in my yard unfurling in the warm sunshine. Taking note of all the little buds of potential waiting for their moment to shine.

The sound of a faint little knock on the front door where I discovered a neighbor boy of 7 asking if he gave me his allowance ($3.57) would I let him pick some of the tulips in my yard for his grandmother. She is coming to visit for his birthday tomorrow and he wanted to surprise her.

The look on his little face when I led him to the backyard and showed him over 100 tulips still in bloom and watching him fill and extra vase I had full of the red, yellow and white flowers. (That is one lucky grandma.)

Leaving work early to start preparing the beds for the summer bulbs.

Thinking about the steaks, corn and asparagus that will go on the grill for dinner tonight.

I work with all men, Maintenance men mind you...Well one of them locked their keys in one of the company trucks. It took 6 guys and an hour before they admitted defeat and were going to call Fleet and get in trouble. I got up, walked out to the truck, did "a lil of this and a lil of that" magic on it..and Voila! Door opens! They all stood there amazed! Lol. I just smiled and walked back in the office and continued doing payroll :)

I found the perfect pieces of art work for my bedroom today. I just painted it a lovely periwinkle. I have white drapes with a white eyelet duvet set. Over one of the windows, written in black lettering is 'Dance like no one is watching'. On the wall beside it I have a black metal music bar with notes (I used to know what that was called but it's not coming to me now). On the other side I have a large black metal staff. Over my bed I have a black and white painting of a pier and a calm lake...total zen.
I've been smiling ever since. :)

The NFL finallyyy released the 2013 schedule.. AND the Falcons play New England in Atlanta this year...(new thing the NFL is doing with playing teams inter-divisionally) AND... the game is on a Sunday...as we have been hoping...so we are taking a road trip and going to see the game! It will be my first time visiting Atlanta. I can't wait to see the aquarium...and there are numerous places Teddy wants to take me. He is from that area originally :)

If I'm a VERY lucky girl we will go by way of eastern NC so we can stop by my favorite winery...and pick up a hoarder's delight of blackberry wine. Massachusetts does NOT allow wine to be shipped into state...it is a huge burden of sadness for me :(
