Got the news today....... I GOT THE JOB!!! I am so excited! For years I have been looking for a higher position/advancement, and finally the right job at the right place came along. And I think I also kicked the interview's ass. :D In two weeks or so, I'll be moving from So Cal to SW Colorado! My guy (DJ Bear) is helping me move out there and get settled. Later, Hy will join me there permanently. Hooray! The new job starts May 13. Time to celebrate! WOOOOO!!!!!

While sitting here by the west window, moments ago this afternoon, I noticed something flickering in my peripheral vision. So I turned to see that it was a squirrel, sitting on the cedar rail of my patio deck - he was so cute, sitting there trying to entice me to engage with him (or I guess, her). I played 'peek-a-boo' with them for several moments and they seemed to like that I was doing that, and then I remembered I had a can of cashews, walnuts and peanuts over on the kitchen counter. So I went and got a handful of them and carefully opened the glass doors to leave the nuts where they could get them. I thought the squirrel was going to run off, but they just sat there.... staring at me... while I left the nuts and as soon as I came back inside, they ate them all up and sat again near the west window, seemingly happy that I gave them something to eat. :)

A very sweet text from my daughter asking when I would come visit her and the grandkids. I asked if she needed anything and she laughed and said she needed everything but she just wanted to spend time with me. Haahaa! So many times I miss having my kids at home yet. They are all grown and have their own lives but they are still my little tykies. LOL!

:) Having a piece come together. Sometimes I have to let a piece sit for a while before I can see the finished product. Today 6 paintings got finished. All only needed a little bit, but it felt so good to see them done.

Someone recently asked me how I know a painting is done (I typically paint abstracts). I didn't know how to explain it to them. I just know. I know when it is wrong and needs to be painted over, when it just needs something added and when it is done. Often pieces sit for a while before I can see what needs to be done, but in the end I always know.

The lovely chamber music concert that Teddy took me to....they played Mozart and Brahms...and even though I've always preferred the latter, my favorite piece was actually one of Brahms'....

After the concert, we meandered in the Berkshires...found by accident the largest state park in the state, October Mountain. Definitely have to return to hike and kayak there...many miles of trails to traverse :)

the little boy who lives next door (7-8 years old) came over to me while I was outside in my yard (glorious day and it was SO nice to be out there) and asked me, like a lil gentleman, how my shoulder was doing. He has been my neighbor for 3 years. I have watched him move from post toddler stages to actual child age.

I showed him my scar and demonstrated what range of mobility I have right now. He asked me quite a few questions and we chatted about all my surgeries on this shoulder. As he left, he turned and said to me, "if you ever need anything, Ma'am, I would be glad to help you. I like you. You have nice dogs." LOL.

I love kids. They keep it very simple....

What made me smile today - was the end to this story. So bear with me and read through it... :reader:

Today I made pot pies for the shelter kids. One of the guys was insistant on not listening to me when I said it was fresh from the oven and hot. He took the pot pie out of his bowl and was trying to dump it from the container directly into the bowl when it slipped and splattered all over his hand. Reluctantly he put his hand under running cold water. "It still burns," he said. So I had him slather his hand with butter. Again he wimpered that it was still burning. I said he needed to try one more thing or we would have to get him to the ER. He was willing to try anything before going to the ER. So I went to a locked med cabinet and pulled out a hidden tube of toothpaste "paste" that I had hidden away. I had him wash off the butter and slather his hand with the paste. Instantly he felt relief. I checked on him twice throughout the day and there was no sign of a burn whatsoever. No swelling. No fever. No redness. No blisters.

He was happy. I was happy. We all were happy!!

Being asked a couple weeks ago to oversee a corrective action to completion at work..the previous recommendations have been rejected many times over the past year. Gathered my team together...put together a plan and put new processes in place...presented it today and it was accepted and closed.

I'll never ask a customer to leave just for bugging me. Short of assault, I mean. I'll stick a finger in someone's face and say "Don't touch me," or I'll be less friendly to someone who is hard to be around, but my own comfort isn't a priority at work.

It's not always wine and roses. I've gotten threats and insults, had shot glasses thrown at me and body parts waved at me, and I generally take it all in stride because... Well, because it's show business.

The only time it really irks me is when I get unsolicited advice... And really only specific advice, like when a fat guy tells me I should lose weight or an unemployed person tells me to get my life together. I guess because I can't say anything back. It's frustrating.

And there was this guy who was driving me nuts. He needs a lot of attention, and he just wants to complain about things. "Oh, the karaoke, I can't stand music, only listen to talk radio myself, and, what the hell, does that guy really have his dog in here? I hate animals, would just as soon kick a dog as look at one. Oh, you're an animal lover? When you grow up, you'll hate animals, too. These idiots, they wanna have a baby on their second date, and you just don't know. You don't know what it IS to have kids. YOU DON'T KNOW! You don't have kids? Then you don't know. You never know. You can't do it alone. If you have kids, you can't fight with that person, and you can't break up. Never have kids on your own. Never have kids. You can't. You can't have kids. You don't know."

And I'm flapped. I'm busy, the bar's busy, and he keeps calling me back over to say that same crap. "These people can't have kids."

And I'm saying things like "Well, that's one theory, but this is America, where anyone can do any fool thing they want." I'm getting glib, because I do want babies, and this guy thinks he's gonna tell me something.

"You can't. You don't know. Just... Just Stay Away From Babies!!!"

And I said the kind of stuff I haven't said since high school, like just totally dismissive, over-the-wall stuff like "Oh I worship the devil, I already stay away from babies." I wouldn't have even noticed it, but this guy was getting me really upset.

And there's a customer who is always really sharp and helpful and considerate and great, Al, and he goes "Hey, can you stop serving this guy? He's really bugging me."

Now I know that weirdo didn't say word one to Al. He didn't say a word to anyone else. He was there to chat up the bus-driver.

You know that guy? Who sits in the front seat of the bus so he can tell his sad life story to the poor beleaguered bus driver? Like "Hi stranger, let's be friends, and I'm gonna tell you about all my early childhood foster care experiences today, even though I don't know your first name." That guy? Yeah, he comes to my bar, too, and I'm the driver.

Al did that for me. He noticed the guy was bothering only me and nobody else. And he knew I could only kick the guy out if he was bothering a customer. Oh, Al. Sometimes I love my gay boys so much, my heart might burst.

On the way to work today, you will never guess what happened. I had to stop about 6 car lengths from the country corner. A flashing light police SUV stopped us, along with stopping all the other directions. I looked around, a police escort ? A funeral ? I saw another SUV leading a red van, and a big semi following it. Ok, a wide load? What the heck is going on, on this country road? As it got closer, I red Budweiser on the van...Budweiser on the semi truck. They turned the corner approaching me. It was the clysdesdales! Three semi trucks pulling trailers! What the heck? Hmmmm. They must have stayed the night at George Straits horse roping arena and where now heading downtown for a parade today. It was amazing. I guess it's not unusual for them to get police escorts. I've never seen anything like it. I told this story many times today :)

Sitting in the sun, reading a book by Lee Iacoccca.

I had to smile when he was talking about how Congress, after feeling betrayed by France refusing to support GW in attacking Iran, insisted the fries in their three cafeterias be renamed "freedom fries".

France didn't respond except to mention that French fries actually come from Belgium.

He also pointed out we should be happy they didn't ban the word French from our vocabulary or we would have been "freedom-kissing" and having "freedom toast" for breakfast.

Memories of our outing yesterday :)

We decided to take a day trip rather than go longer; I had an early doctor's appointment today, and it made no sense to rush around when the point of the venture was to relax.

We spent the day out on Martha's Vineyard. Teddy had never been and I hadn't been there in nearly 20 years. We had a lovely day just meandering all over the island. We walked everywhere, saw lovely ocean views and breathed in the sea air. :) The architecture there is enough reason on its own to go, but we found so many lovely things to do now and in future visits. I even got to collect some nice shells... :)

Another visit will be in order since many places were still closed due to the season. Most distressing of which was the lack of ice cream shops and salt water taffy purveyors!

Watching my Mighty Huntresses watch the birds at the feeder outside. I swear I can hear the gears in their little heads turning. One of them is talking smack to the birds who are sublimely ignoring her.

I usually move through my life not really seeing the femmes on my daily landscape--I assume that most people are reasonably nice and friendly, so I never really think "oh hey! that's a femme saying hello and acknowledging me"...

This morning, I walked into a cafe to order some coffee--as I walk in I see a woman do a double-take out of the corner of my eye , the movement of her head attracts my attention and I turn to look at her; a femme sitting at the counter with her butch, she looks at me and gives me the warmest "good morning" greeting and a lovely, friendly smile.

It was one of those quiet moments of kindness and dignity; I was reminded of the power in being seen and acknowledged. I returned her smile with one of my own.

The Smiles today are because I posted my last post on the discussion board for school. Classes officially end tomorrow. I also submitted my final project, picked up my paperwork at my internship site and signed paperwork in the charts that I wrote, and now the only thing left for school is to make a video for my classmates on the college's flipshare phone and mail that back and mail the internship paperwork to my professor. I cannot wait until I hold both the degree and certification in my hand for the first time. I just may get emotional since it was such a BIG journey with obstacles at every turn.

That is what made me smile today.

Oh and yesterday I smiled because I learned my niece is getting married on December 7th. She will be having the service in the church where my family was raised going...it is where her parents married. I am very glad the tradition is continuing.
