My good nature wore really thin today with the lack of sleep and the run-around that I was given by a government office (it's no wonder the "system is broke"!)....but the frustration faded when I was told that I "look HOT" all dressed up. (YEAH! I was HOT from my back sweating against the car seat all the way home!!) :) I guess the two hours I spent "ironing" my hair straight and "putting my face on" was worth it. :)
It's nice to know one's efforts are appreciated.

Talking to Mom and hearing that she had a wonderful birthday with her best friend Miss Pat.
I am beyond happy that she got to celebrate this birthday and had an awesome time!
It was around September two years ago that she was diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma and started VERY aggressive chemo (we nearly lost her that winter) I am so tickled that she had an awesome day. She really deserves it!! And she sounded so good on the phone. Sounded happy making plans. She's finally able to look past her days of treatment and make plans for things she enjoys.

Having a nice dinner with my sister, SIL and niece. It was a sort of celebration: my nephew's 18th birthday (he didn't want to go out for dinner and said that it should be a "girl's night out"), my sister got a contract extension on her job, my niece got a great new job, my SIL has finished arranging orientation at the university she teaches at. Me - I'm celebrating 1 week of being soda free.
It was great to have a nice meal with jokes, laughter, teasing and chocolate!

Seeing my long-time buddy at the dog park, Thor (and his black Lab, Jackson). He hasn't been out as often as he used to be. His wife was diagnosed with MS this past year and his 92 year old father-in-law now lives with them (mother-in-law died 2 years ago) and going downhill with dementia. So, he and Jack don't come everyday like they used to.

Good to just see him and the pooch, but, he was excited because he and his wife are actually going to Menodocino this coming weekend, just by themselves. Jack and Gramps are covered and his wife has had a time of no flair-ups. He was so excited!

When I see people I know that have all of these types of things going on, I stop and have a talk with myself about just letting the little stuff go. So much is fodder that really doesn't need some of the drama we all can put into it.

Seeing my good friend smiling certainly made me smile today! So glad to hear that his wife is doing fairly well. Oh, and Jackson looked fit and happy, too! Sweet dog, Thor's best pal!!

Riding mountain bikes with my bud, mtnbikedyke. She loaned me her sweet full suspension bike and we tore up the trail! I made it down a two foot drop off of the rocks,and no flying over the handlebars,around the hairpin turn and between the tree and the river.....allllllllll without landing IN the RIVER!! Finally made it up a hilly section with 3 switchback curves that have OWNED me and I have had to walk in the past!! We had a blast! One of the best days on the trail I've had in a while! LIFE is GOOD!! OH! She is loaning me that sweet bike for the 11 mile race we are doing on the same trail next month...THAT ROCKS!

Today, I got a long distance call from a member here that I really have only met one time (prior Bash a couple of years ago) asking if I was OK due to the gas rupture and explosions/fire here in the Bay Area of California- San Francisco, San Bruno areas.. This was so nice of her! Warmed my heart (not that way - she is married to a great butch and very happy). Hell, she and her partner have boxed my ears a couple of times when I have made dumb or insensitive posts! We all do at times.

This is exactly the B-F community I know and love- and the best thing is that we don't need to live close to one another, can have disputes (with talking things through), can deal with them and view one another with the respect and honor we all deserve!

I honestly have met phenomenal people from this community from every aspect of every identity, political stance, and beyond that have made my life more positive and a more conscious person of what I may not know. Adds to my feelings that there is more good than bad in people and some of the best are right here! This makes me want to keep putting the darkness of what can get between us aside and stick with the light that is very much a part of the Planet and our entire community.

She even was worried about my pooch! So, here is a pic I found while going through a bunch of stuff today of him at 6 months (just think it's cute, he is 5 now). He's fine and says thanks for being concerned about me, too! He's glad he has a butch type parent that belongs to this website!

well little did they know I always kept tabs on them to make sure her and her family were ok. I just thought if she ever wanted to contact me she would,,left it up to her..and she did..funny thing tho,,she said she thought about me alot over the past 15 yrs. I guess when someone is deep in your heart you never forget some things that meant alot.She always told people I saved her life,,the night we met she was going to commit suicide..already had the note written and the plan laid out..I talked some sense into her lil noggin..I guess some things you never forget,,,but I dont remember what I said to her that night..but there is a reason for everything right ?

a 15 year old boy posted on freecycle that he needed a 35 mm camera to take a special class at school.

I recognized the name of the family and we have given back and forth to each other over the past year...

I had a 35 mm with lenses and fllters and flashes and film that had been my sister's. It was outdated. He would have to learn how to use a camera at its basics. But it was a good camera. And I could get at least a few hundred out of it if I chose to sell it

and I could use the money

but this family always saved things for me...like paper towel rolls and green ice tea plastic jugs and cereal boxes...things I use in my garden and things my kid uses in her classroom...

and I knew the chances of someone replying to him were dim

and I knew his father has had a long laid off period....

it was HIS smile that made me smile...
it was his momma's that made me want to cry...

deliverance from the pain of surgery....every day I can go back to the page I bookmarked and re read a bit of it to remember what it was like and realize overnite, its gotten better and I can move forward more than I thought I could...

its so nice that only one week from the day of my surgery, I am optimistic once again....

I am smiling because I need my pain meds less and less...and recognize this and am acting on it rather than feeding the pain to get the meds

enjoying the quietness of my neighborhood on a cool late summer day. The colors that come quietly into my house during the daytime are likened to the color of the sun that has come around just one more time...

the neighbors are out after work, mowing grass, usually done on the weekened. Bit today the house next to mine was being demolished. So rather than come and stare openly, they perform a task and eyeball out their peripheries for steals of visuals they will compare notes with later, at some little league game or holy communion practice.

my birds are collecting their kin and preparing either for a long winter or a long winter's journey. Neither one is prefered or easy. Yet gaily they sing. Imagine humans having a language where one sang their thoughts and spoke their communications. Well, beyong musicals and Glee....

My flesh is coloring back up, recently drained of color from the insult of surgery. And as more swelling goes down, and more people come to visit, they all acknowledge the obvious..my love handles are gone. Not from aging or overeating, My hernia was so overdone that it spilled off the sides and collapsed a lung and moved my heart out of its way so it could create those rolls. I spent the day admiring my good fortune....

and in the golden haze of the day, it was not lost on me the colors of the downstairs, filled with golds and muted pinks and neutral greens. To watch the sun spread across it was like listening to music fall from a musical instrument...beautiful in its movement and equally beautiful in its expression as it unfolds across something else...

this is the end of the preparation and even the end of the harvest. We have toiled and stored, eaten well and saved. Come leaner times, our bellies willl be filled. The soft texture of today allowed me moments to rest, to luxuriate in the light of one of the last days of this season...

it mattered not if I was waking up or falling asleep...when I found myself suddenly "present", there I was....smiling.....

This actually happened yesterday.... so rewind about 4 months. My neice was about 5 months pregnant and was really starting to show. My brother has a 125 lb rottwieller named LeRoy. One day he goes up to my neice and sniffs all over her belly very gently. Then he laid his huge head gently on the top of her belly and whimpered softly. He had never done anything like that before so we just have to assume he knew something. Maybe he could hear the baby's heartbeat? So fast forward to yesterday. My neice brought her new baby girl home from the hospital. My brother let LeRoy in and my neice held the baby out to him. LeRoy sniffed and sniffed and then.... we could see his entire facial expression change. We could see the comprehension - he got it. He backed up and lowered his upper body to the floor - almost like he was bowing to her and the baby. My neice handed the baby off and LeRoy went right up to her belly and poked his nose in her belly over and over. It really was something to see!!!!
