Yesterday was Big Sister day at work. Some of the adult women are big sisters to some girls and young ladies in the city where we work. They meet here once a month (I think) and work on their projects, meet for lunch, take photos, team building exercises, whatever. Yesterday they met in a conference room next to where I sit. The big and little sisters can be a rowdy bunch—rowdy with laughter and giggles most times.
Anyway, when I returned from lunch there was a note on my desk that read, If we are too loud next door, just come in and slap us!
The note was from one of my buddies and it made me smile.
They were loud, but it was nice.

I got my grade back from one of my 15 page papers that was soooo painfully difficult to write. It was nearly three weeks late too.
I received a nearly perfect grade which I only have to snicker at because another student in my class turned it in on time and and received a lower grade. Not that i took that extra time to write it. It was just that is when I finally had the time to write it.
But, i got the best compliment from the teacher too:
"Excellent job on this paper ........! The creative gifted learners in your district will be lucky to have you conducting assessments." yeah.. that's the smile part...:praying: :cigar2: sounds like a good time to celebrate with a cigar!

I won two prizes at a raffle we had a work.
One prize is two tickets to our local playhouse and the other prize is a wine and glass caddy with a bottle of wine and two wine glasses similar to the one below:

So glad I went. Purchased a bunch of earrings (am wearing a pair of Afghan coins that I got), a brownie, a couple gifts, and some raffle tickets.

I went to our Arts & Crafts fair. Employees (and friends of employees) bring in their crafts or foods to sell, a few local businesses donate their goods, one of the owners auctions off his timeshare for a week, etc, and part of the proceeds go to charity. The $2 ghirardelli brownies always sell out within a couple hours.
I've been here for years and this is the first time I won something in the raffle. :)

Congratulations on your raffle wins! - Wendy's has been selling a Frosty Sundae made with Ghirardelli chocolate sauce and crumbled chocolate chip cookies. Honestly, the sauce was the best part. Alas, they are no longer making them. But they were amazing while they lasted.
What's making me smile? The red berries on the holly outside in my yard.

Making holiday prezzies for our team of 8 staff members at work. I bought cute tiny tins, then filled them with holiday candy, then made each person a home made holiday card, with which they get a picture of a special art project I made last summer (back in 2018). They have no idea that I am bringing gift swag bags to work tomorrow, so it makes me smile that I can do something kind for each person on our team and get their holiday season off to a wonderful start. :balloon:

Leaves, leaves everywhere!
Today, I was out and about and saw swirling leaves dance across the cobblestone street. They danced, as if, they were in a flash mob. First, swirling in, single file. Then scattered into couples. Quite enjoyable to see on a beautiful fall morning.

Watching little Daisy Lynn toddle around. Her mom has been staying with J and my son until she gets on her feet and she's doing a good job of it. She 's been hired at the post office so J was babysitting while her mom went to orientation/did training, something like that. Daisy is a really sweet little girl and a very easy child to look after so it was a nice, pleasant day.

I accidentally fell asleep on the couch and napped, without having first locked Monte in his bedroom turned cage. When I woke around 11 last night I immediately panicked at the thought of what he might have done to the computer cords or Christmas light strings while I was zonked out. However nada, nothing, not a chew mark anywhere. What a relief! :) See this proves he really can behave so for him choosing not to is truly optional. Now I can see correcting him isn't cruelty but rather a case of tough love.

I got to make real changes in a couple of peoples lives that will have lasting impact. One was to finance (through a grant) a few months worth of bus passes for an elderly woman displaced through domestic violence so that she can get to her doctors appointments and go grocery shopping and just get out when she wants to.
The second was to be able to move a young woman out from living in her car to living inside where it is safe and warm.
Both are people who will take those bridges and make more of themselves because of having it.

Yup, no doubt easygoing! And I bet, of all the gifts you give this holiday season, those two will be the very best......
I went to PT this morning because it is my happy place. No one including PT understood why I would want go there on my birthday but to me it is a happy place. The place that is fun and full of encouragement and caring.
When I walked in the door every single person wished me a happy birthday. I said where is the music? They said, what do you want to hear? I said Donna Summer! The queen of disco and then it played. My heart was warm and happy.
We danced, laughed, and worked my biceps. We are on strength training now because I am 95% healed. We did in 4 months what normally takes 6 months to a year.
I am still smiling.

Because my favorite niece and her husband drove to see me and it took them 3 hours in the snow when they got so far south from them right through the snow belt. I havent seen them since my sister passed but she brought me some things my sister wanted me to have, sooo happy, pictures and such. Also my sister left a surprise cheque for me. A LARGE cheque. I would rather have her back but I had no idea. She has 3 kids and 4 grand kids and 4 ggrand kids. I would tear it up just for one more lunch or dinner with her but it made me smile to see my niece and her husband.

I did the rounds making sure everything was in place ready to go just in case we lose power. Monte expressed interest at first but once he realized no, no treats involved, just mom working her ass off, promptly stopped being my best friend and went and took a nap. And there, in the chair I wanted to sit in, he still rests.

She's probably off in her dreams doing the back stroke somewhere or sunbathing on the sandy shores of some Mediterranean Fantasy Island beach kind of place. I mean seriously, open your eyes, let's get this show on the road! Good news is I didn't miss a thing. Just came back from the dentist and I am smiling so much - a big toothy grin, it was a root canal on a front upper tooth (well, just off to the side). She is so gentle, and I really like her. Two hours in the chair and no pain, just some discomfort with the freezing, amazing! She and her assistant gossiped for most of the session, about Mormons - dentists they know - I laughed, well, sort of, with my open mouth, ya know. There are only women in her office, and boy, do they like to gossip! (chuckling here)
My dentist talked about some TV show - I think it is/was called "Sister/Wives", she asked me whether I had ever seen it, and no, I hadn't - no way, not interested; all I could do was shake my head a bit from side-to-side. She said how she became so angry watching that show. I understood that, and could only nod my understanding. I really like and trust her. I always find it funny when dentists ask you questions, with your mouth open and all sorts of instruments and things in it.
It got boring and I checked to see if there was anything coming up to meditate upon, but nothing, no thoughts, nothing. That is my usual state. I wake up smiling. What can I say, life is good.
My govt insurance paid for 1/2 of it, and she only charges standard rates. I am so glad I decided to have her do it. :)

I've often said that if I ever get to a point where I don't find those T rex costumes funny, just take me out. I would have been on the floor laughing and cheering them on.
My Lol- I gave my daughter, 20 and 3/4 years old, a small glass of wine with her dinner and it's showing. Super cute.

LOL, she will be SoOoOooOoOooo surprised and it makes me smile to know that I can surprise her for Mother's Day.
This afternoon a local non profit that brings us a bag of canned goods each month, rolled up & asked..do you want some sandwiches from a national donut chain.....who donated to them 45 cases of simply everything croissants filled with chicken, bacon, and monterey jack cheese.
I got 3 cases, that were evenly distributed to most of our dwellers here....102 sandwiches in all......
I am so appreciative of any & all help we get. I am NOT going to any stores...I order online & then pickup with NO contact!!
Thank you Goddess!

I was out of milk (which I must have for my coffee) and a few other things, and so got myself ready to go out into the big bad scary world. And as I got off the elevator, I saw a fridge in our lobby (which I kinda looked at with a wtf). However, there was a sign on the front saying open to get food. So, I opened the door and what do you know, a bunch of 4 litre jugs of milk !!! Yogurt and whipped cream too !!!
Our building manager is a peach, eh? :)
Now if only I could get him to get us all masks... :)
I still need bread and butter and a few other basics, so it's off to the corner market I go... bye (wearing my bandanna, saving my few masks for more dangerous times ahead)

My new across-the-backyard neighbor, who is clearly enjoying his new yard. I can see him from my kitchen window, where I sit to work. He worked in his yard all weekend, and about two hours ago he came out and plopped himself down in the middle of it. He has been there ever since, taking pictures of squirrels (or something) with his camera, lying on his back looking up at the sky, and just chillin'.

While on my walk this morning, I heard an owl hooting to other owls (the parents, maybe?) and I also noticed there is a woodpecker pecking on a diseased tree, which is nearby too. Further out on my neighborhood walk, there are Mourning Doves too. I love their birdsong.
Heck, with all the trees off-loading their pollen into the air, it's a small wonder that anybody can breathe (birds included).
But hearing a variety of birds nearby (geese, crows, owls, the woodpecker, mourning doves) makes my heart smile. :stillheart:

the virus does live on plastic and packaging ~ how long ? different times for different materials ~ at least 13 - 15 days on metals esp. stainless steal ~ this I saw a few weeks ago on a food safety segment ~ if more testing has been done and the numbers have changed I'm not sure about. it's a shame that everyone who works to accommodate the public are getting sick ~ where I live the confirmed cases are very high and still growing. we just don't know.

2 to 3 days on metal and plastic. Meat is stored and shipped refrigerated or frozen. Generally temperature has an effect on how long things last outside of the body. Long story short, if you were to contract it from food packaging, someone in the store is more likely to have shed the virus onto the packaging than to think it lasted from the processing plant to the store then into your hand.

Reading that Governor Newsom is set to close California beaches again.
:) :) :)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to announce the closure of all California beaches and state parks beginning Friday, May 1, KABC reports.
A memo from the California Police Chiefs Association says the decision was based on "well-publicized media coverage of overcrowded beaches this past weekend, in violation of Governor Newsom's Shelter in Place Order."
Newsom admonished beachgoers in Orange County for overcrowding during a Monday news conference.
The decision comes just after Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced the reopening of San Diego City beaches for exercise beginning Monday.
The City of Del Mar was scheduled to reopen its beaches on Thursday, but has since canceled that move in anticipation of Newsom's announcement.

A Trump backing sheriff fired his lesbian deputy. So she ran for his job and simply just CRUSHED it.
Cincinnati’s Hamilton County is likely to elect their first openly gay sheriff this November—a former deputy who was fired by the current sheriff, who attended a Trump rally in 2016.
Charmaine McGuffey, who has won the Democratic nomination for county sheriff, has the kind of storied career in law enforcement you’d hope for in a candidate. She also has the honor of having been fired for being a lesbian who tried to get Hamilton’s current sheriff to act on systemic misconduct against women.
“The current sheriff and I got into a pretty serious disagreement about the practice of him not holding officers accountable for use of force and harassment of women, female officers, and female inmates,” McGuffey told LGBTQ Nation.
She took her time away to come to the conclusion that she could do a better job than the guy who fired her. Voters agree: in the Democratic primary last month, McGuffey beat him for this November’s nomination in a landslide.

"Around 200 escaped goats stormed residential streets of San Jose, California, after breaking through a fence. The goats were rounded up and under control within minutes but 'everyone had to spend the next hour or so picking up their poop', Zach Roelands, a local resident, said."
They had been placed there to graze on dead grass and had been surrounded by an electrified fence, but they managed break down the fence and escape. I empathize with the goats...

On my way to the dumpster two young boys riding by on bikes stopped and asked if I'd like some help with the bag I was lugging to the dumpster. This happened not at the same time but twice. One boy rounding the corner saw me, stopped and asked if I could use some help. Once he was out of sight another young fellow came around the corner, stopped and asked me if I'd like some help. I thanked them both but said no because I'm pretty sure their parents/other adults in their life have instructed them not to talk to strangers. Let alone grab barehanded something a stranger has touched during the middle of a pandemic. I didn't say that, I didn't want to scare them, but as a mother myself those would be my thoughts. Anyhow the second boy was more persistent. Again I thanked him, said no. I told him it was nice of him to offer but I was fat and needed the exercise. He said - No you're not, you look good just the way you are, then shot me a smile and cycled away. I was floored I mean these were young children not teenagers you'd hope and expect would be that mannerly by then, or men coming on. On my way home I saw them together, they were looking at a friend, encouraging him to not be riding his bike across the road. They told him - Come over here you don't need to be where we're not supposed to go. Follow us, we'll all have fun over here. I about fell out!
It's so nice seeing polite kids out having fun, encouraging each other to follow the rules and not being up to no good. And this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Earlier a a young man here asked if I needed help with the trash I was lugging. Around the holidays two girls went door to door handing out homemade cookies. If children here are out playing on the sidewalks and see an adult coming they move to the grass to give them room to pass before going back to play. They take their pets out for a walk, on leashes and pick up after them. It's just so nice to be around mannerly children for a change. However it worried me a little because what if some criminal took advantage of that innocence. So I got online and did a search to see how many convicted child molesters and/or rapists are living in the area. To my surprise not a one. Now I know that doesn't mean that they're aren't any because for every one you see there are dozens, if not hundreds more you don't. Still it's nice to know at least the place isn't teeming with convicted ones like were I used to live. I woke up in a kind of crabby mood because I didn't get up until 9. I don't mind oversleeping if I don't have any real reason to be up, or was up late the night before but when I plan to be productive and over sleep yeah that make me a little grouchy, but this put a smile on my face and gave my spirits such a lift. I came back home in a really cheerful mood. Which got me thinking about how you never what positive impact some little act of kindness thing, that might not seem such a deal to you do, can have on a person's life, help change the course of their day. :)

It's going to be the perfect get away. I showed her the fire stick capability. Oooo, she was smiling!!!
I told her we survived the lock down and we would survive if I ever moved out of Texas. 💝💝💝💝

Seeing my work start to open up again. It's been really weird working all these months with bare bones staff.
Daycare re-opened for staff and neighborhood essential workers. I literally watched teachers running from their cars smiling and happy to get back to work. I love hearing the children playing outside and chattering as they get dropped off.
It's nice having more people in place and filling gaps I have been trying to fill during this time. I have more room to breathe and more support.

Seriously, this made me smile today.
I've always liked how George Conway takes a path that deviates from the ordinary Republican agenda and I was impressed with how The Lincoln Project rebukes the sickness that is representative of the lunatic who resides in the WH. So refreshing to see this article on CNN.
Last month, the Anti-T***P group took out an ad supporting Joe Biden and got a boost of support for their ability to take T---p ( and his sick supporters in the GOP) to task.
Quoting from the article:
The Lincoln Project is led by a high-profile team of anti-Trump Republicans, including John Weaver, Rick Wilson, Reed Galen and George Conway, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. Former Mitt Romney strategist Stuart Stevens recently joined the group.
Their goal is for Trump to lose reelection -- last month the group ran an ad endorsing Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee -- but getting under Trump's skin is an added benefit for the group.
Each of the Lincoln Project principles aligned themselves with the "NeverTrump" movement in the 2016 election and have been outspoken critics of Trump and the Republican Party ever since.
Here is the link to today's updated article from May 31st, on CNN (embedded in the title):
The Lincoln Project: Anti-T***P Republican Group Attacks (...) on Race in New Ad (https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/31/politics/lincoln-project-new-ad-trump-race/index.html).
I like George Conway's chutzpah, and the others like him who are holding their political party accountable.

Technically yesterday, but I'm still thinking about it. I was feeling off all day and then it started to rain right when I was about to go for a walk. But then I just so happened to look out my window and I saw a complete rainbow. I think it was the first full rainbow I had ever seen (as in not just one arc but both connected).
Just as soon as I saw it, it disappeared behind the clouds. I feel like the Universe conspired to offer me that moment of transcendence.

Seeing my youngest grandson today. He's the happiest baby I've ever known and I've worked with a lot of them that's for sure. My daughter-in law is a very good mother. She doesn't mind help but she doesn't resent having to care for him, doesn't leave him with sitters whenever possible so she can run around acting like she's 16 and child free all over again. Since she's so responsible I can relax and just enjoy seeing him, all the perks of motherhood without the hard work. Being a grandmother is so fun!

It's about an 80 mile round trip - I do not mind! I finally found a particular model chainsaw IN STOCK I have been trying to locate for weeks. Already paid for it online to ensure they will hold it (last one) for me. I will be driving to pick it up in store today. Doing without is holding me back from outdoor accomplishments. I am slowly cleaning up the mess I left for 1.5 years when I could not do anything much at all because of a back injury. I am still being extremely cautious, taking it very slow and easy. I feel so fortunate to have found this particular chainsaw. This damn virus has put everything on back order.

My elderly Alzheimer’s client started randomly singing a song today that I didn’t recognize. I googled the lyrics and found out it was Doris Day (Tea for Two)
I played other songs and she knew the words to so many of them! It was nice to hear her belt it out. It’s funny how the mind works and what lingers.

Your poor baby! I found an article that may help. Here's part of it.
How can I prevent motion sickness in my dog?
Desensitizing or counter-conditioning your dog to car travel may take some work, but it can be accomplished. Helping your dog overcome the stress and anxiety of travel will mean that he can accompany you on trips more frequently and will allow you to spend more time together.
The best way to ease your dog’s travel anxiety is by taking several short trips before embarking on a long haul. Start by simply placing your dog in your car, starting the motor, and sitting there without moving for a few minutes. The next day, repeat this process, but back out of your driveway and then return. Be sure to praise your dog and offer a food reward for good behavior. Next, try a trip around the block. Gradually work your way up to riding comfortably for 20 to 30 minutes.
Conditioning your dog to ride comfortably in the car may require several days or even weeks. Be sure to gradually expose your nervous pet to more and more challenging stimuli. You cannot force your dog to “get over” or “deal with” his anxiety. Traveling in a confined space in a motor vehicle can be frightening for a dog and requires time to adjust. Make sure you maintain a calm and cool attitude, and do not scold your dog if he begins to howl or whine. Visible anxiety is a sign to stop the current training and start again another day. Continuing to expose your dog to a stressful situation will only cause him to further associate the car with displeasure and fear and cause setbacks in your training. Car rides in a carrier can also be good practice for traveling in an airplane or train.
Here are additional tips to make your dog’s travel more enjoyable and reduce motion sickness:
Withhold food 12 hours before travel. An empty stomach will help reduce nausea and the need for frequent potty breaks that are often unwelcome, especially during long car rides or airplane or train travel. Be sure to provide access to fresh water whenever possible. Water bottles that hang on the carrier’s door are a good option for many pets.Use a carrier or dog safety harness. Anxious dogs can both hurt themselves and cause accidents. A carrier is often viewed as a “safe place” for many dogs.
Keep the car cool and quiet. Play soft classical music and keep the temperature cool.
Include the sweet smell of home. Add a t-shirt or blanket with your scent to your dog’s carrier. In addition to smelling like home, nothing is cozier than mom or dad’s shirt.
Offer special trip toys. Giving your dog new toys that he only gets to play with when he travels can help him associate travel with fun. If your dog seems to need a little more help to stay calm during travel, talk to your veterinarian about using one of the following remedies:
Lavender or dog pheromone (Adaptil®). Aromatherapy and pheromones can calm a tense traveler. Add these scents to your dog’s bedding to help calm his fears.
Calming herbs. Natural remedies, including Bach® flower (Rescue Remedy®), kava, valerian, passionflower, ginger, and skullcap, have been used for decades to ease anxiety and motion sickness.
Anti-nausea medications. Cerenia® (a veterinary-specific prescription medication) and dimenhydrinate (brand names: Dramamine® or Gravol®), and meclizine (brand names: Antivert® and Bonine®). These anti-nausea medications can prevent vomiting in a stressed pet. A single dose of Cerenia® lasts 24 hours. Keep in mind that these drugs only help with motion sickness, not anxiety. Speak to veterinarian to discuss if these medications are appropriate for your dog and to obtain the correct dosages and frequency of administration.
Anti-anxiety medication. These medications may be considered for use in extremely stressed pets only. Alprazolam (Xanax®), trazodone (Desyrel®) or other prescription medications given the night before travel and repeated 12 hours later can relax even the most anxious pet traveler. Many veterinarians will recommend you give a second dose about 2 hours before you embark on your trip. Keep in mind that some prescription medications need to be started several days to a couple of weeks before travel to be most effective. Always follow instructions from your veterinarian carefully.
The article also said that a lot of dogs grow out of motion sickness after they turn 1. You said your Frenchie was a baby so maybe this may be true for you.

Seeing all the halloween decorations. It seems people (workers in stores, decorated homes) are really dressing up this year.
There are lots of goblins, skeletons, and cobwebs in my complex. The neighbor next door created a graveyard with skulls coming out of the ground. And another neighbor has crime-scene tape, skeletons, and beware signs. Last night I saw a hazard light glaring from across the way. And carved pumpkins (mostly fake) throughout.
It's really nice to see the decorations, though I doubt we'll have any children. I'm not passing out treats nor tricks this year.

My son telling me he and J don't mind helping me out because they love me, and want make sure I have all the basics the small amount of SS I receive doesn't cover.
We took the scenic route, past the fields, orchards, wineries and fancy homes. It was a beautiful day for a drive, clear weather, sunny skies, puffy white clouds.
Knowing how much I like the coffee served at the pancake place we love so much my son buying me not one but two pounds of it which was so thoughtful of him.
These are the things that made me happy and left me smiling this morning. Oh and J sent more cute baby photos and listening to my son talk about how proud he is of his son and how much he enjoys being a father.
