I had lots to smile about today:
~ Its My dad's birthday today (he's 56)
~ Me and My parents went to Tim Horton's today (local canadian coffee shop for those who dont know) and when we walked in to grab a drink we saw something that we'd never seen before ......... ICE CREAM! Oh praise the God and Goddess for this miracle :praying:
~ Dad loves his card and dream catcher that I got him for his b-day
~ Pizza for dinner, then cake & ice cream for snack :cheer:

Last night i fell asleep on a video call with my Daddy. At some point the headphones fell off and i just slept on cam.
Now, my kids like to wake up early, and apparently my son came into my room and VERY quietly asked if they could eat the WHOLE jar of peanut butter. Daddy heard this and yelled my sons name. He heard it through the headphones and picked them up and said shyly
"Hello?"
"Son, look at the computer."
Shocked expression
"You may not eat all the peanutbutter."
"But, Mom said...."
"I heard what your mom said, and it was NOT the whole jar."
Defeated look
"Aww man, ok Tuff"

Getting an invitation to the annual family reunion for my father's side of the family...never really knew him, met all of them when I was 29 years old...seen most of them a small handful of times...
The best part though...that the note said "we're really looking forward to seeing you and C (my son) again...and hoping we get to meet Scoote and her son too. Just can't wait to see you ALL!"
Not what most people would expect from such traditional, Southern Baptist folk, but as my uncle said when I told him my partner was a woman..."You're family, and we love you...and if you love her, then she's family too." :)

today...
first thing this morning i spot this tiny salamdar, gecko, wtfe they are called around here..so tiny i couldnt grab its tail, wasnt too coordinated so i managed to catch it by back legs, suddenly its lil head whips around and attempts to bite me...i laffed so hard i about peed myself..i yelled for my driver to come look..that thing had its mouth wide open and still couldnt get enuff of me to bite
then hearing that "Rooster" is gonna be ok..i know momma was worried *is it wrong to call a redheaded child Rooster?"

G-d Jo that's great I have no family here in NJ that bother with me. That is one of the reasons why I'm moving so I could find someone and make my own family. You are very lucky that this Southern Baptist family is accepting you and your partner Scoote. Best of luck to you!!

The picture in the gallery. My fiance was thoughtful enough, and had the forethought to carry the cancer flag thousands of miles, in her pack and take it with her in memory of someone that so deeply touched my life. I can not help but smile to know she is so thoughtful.
I saw that picture and smiled so big at the of Lisa's spirit and my honey on top of the mountain together. I had to giggle at the thought of that conversation. What a blessing to had Lisa such a special be in my life and be taken out so young. What a blessing to have such a thoughtful woman as my fiance in my life. Who could not smile at that?

I went to the mall on my lunchbreak, to order a cookie cake for my gf's birthday Friday. I watched two small children, squeal with delight over Elmo shaped cookies with TONS of red icing (which was more on their faces, than in their mouth). It's a reminder that it's the little things that should always make us smile.

Our next door neighbours youngest boy is in love with Pirates of the Carribean right now, so I lent them the first movie on DVD, he watches it daily, as a reward for staying in his own bed the sleepy time fairy got him his own pirate outfit, with sword, cutest kid, and now he's got his own princess to rescue, the family on the other side of our house has a little girl, a few years older who loves being a princess, and I got to watch the two of them playing out front together. Kids are too damn cute!

A guy friend of mine, Chris, at work made me smile today. He is a software developer too ... on another team. He and I both love gadgety stuff. I think he is very interesting to talk to and I enjoy hearing how he thinks.
Here is the story ...
Our AC was out at work for a week and a half but fortunately for me I was away in training for the first three days of last week. Thank God they fixed it and it was fine today.
On Monday, I started getting this idea of how to rig up something with my desk fan, a styrofoam cooler full of ice and a few feet of rubber tubing. I have been so busy putting out fires with server issues, that is as far as I got with collecting my thoughts about my desk cooling gadget. I have not really had a chance to go over and talk with Chris since probably last Thursday. Plus, it was so hot yesterday - I left after 4 hours ... thought I was going to blow my groceries all over my screen and keyboard.
Today I went over to visit Chris in his cubicle. Low and behold, there was my gadget I had been thinking of creating ... he had it up and running with coiled, hollow copper wire, an aquarium pump, a couple of large plastic soda bottles (cut and glued together) a bag of ice, some cardboard and the items I listed earlier. Much to my enjoyment, Chris took my idea into fruition. He even had a drain tube that trinkled over into his large plastic trash can which he emptied every couple of hours. Here is the good part - we never talked about this gadget until today and I never said a word to anyone about my idea. I tell you, I love this guy's mind .. and he is a very sweet person too.
This probably did not do anything for anyone else here at the site but it was intensely incredible to me to walk into Chris' cubie and view this functioning apparatus. I just stood there looking at it for a minute. (probably with my mouth open - :) ) Then I had to get my hands on it, turn it over and over ... examine every piece and see how he had rigged each connection. The copper tubing was icey cold and wet with perspiration. Totally awesome!! *huge grins* Made my day!
Another friend at work, Henry, has gotten me into braiding leather. I think these guys I work with are interesting people. All my life, I have always had "straight guy" friends. Every once in a while, I will stumble onto an asshole before I realize it ... but hey, that happens with any "specific group" of people.
Hey Gang, for those of you who made it through this lengthy tale, thanks for tolerating my long-winded story. I, for sure, can not blame the ones who bailed out at the beginning.
Time to let Kelly Bully out to pee, then we need to get to bed.
'night all ... sweet dreams to everyone ...

While in between doing a bit of downhill skiing in the middle of a fluffy snow, I was frying up onion rings in a cast iron skillet on a Coleman propane stove outside.
My 2 year old, who looked so cute with her blonde curls and pink lambchop jacket, was being looked after in the lodge and was mesmerized by cartoons and doing fine.
Suddenly, my cat, Leonard tried to remove an onion ring from the skillet with his paw and began leaping in circles in agony. All the fur had been deep fried off his paw and muscle and bone were exposed. My mom and aunt, who were standing on the slope, began screaming.
Then, I woke up and realized it was all a dream and smiled.

Seeing Nannie smile big when she woke from her nap and saw us there. Her recognizing herself and Pa in a picture. The smile on her face when we fed her fresh garden tomatoes. Her realizing it was her birthday and remembering it was her 87th one. Good visit it all made me smile.

I was a pin cushion! It shouldnt make me smile but I cant help it. I am going to look like a junkie thanks to my MRI attendant. A very nice young man but he couldnt catch the vein. (I had to get an MRI of my brain)
Wait! It gets worst. And there I am laying on the MRI table, with my head locked into what appears to be the Hannibal Lecture mask, asking him, "do you have it in yet?"...a moment to be remembered by all....

For the first time in five years, the company I've been with a relatively short period of time as the health, safety and environmental manager, has a recordable injury rate in the single digits for the same year to date period, January - June.
This makes me smile because it tells me that the change management plan for changing the overall safety culture I've put in place is working, and my boys are working safer than they have in a very long time. Of course, I still have some hard-heads out there that I have to battle constantly about safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, and other basic safety principles, but I will win them over soon enough! I think sometimes they underestimate my tenacity, lol.

Vicodin!!
I usually don't take pain killers, don't even like to take Tylenol for headaches or Pamprin for cramps. I usually just put up with it, knowing it will go away soon, lol. I've been putting up with a sore shoulder for over a year now, and haven't had insurance to get any x-ray or MRI done. The doc thinks it's a torn rotator cuff and can't say with 100% certainty until I can get on the insurance offered here by the Heath Dept (not medicaid through the state because as an adult this state doesn't give you medicaid unless you're a pregnant woman). Finally, I gave in and asked for a prescription for Vicodin. He wouldn't give it to me, he gave me Tramadol, which made me violently ill. I told him I can't take Tylenol 3 because it makes me very ill, and he gives me Tramadol which was worse. So I called in and told them and said PLEASE give me Vicodin, I know it doesn't make me sick. They gave me Tylenol 3 and I had to tell them I can't take it.. Their question was "are you sure?" uh, yeah it only makes me vomit until I feel like my stomach is gonna twist inside out. DUH! Both vicodin and Tramadol say you can't take them if you can't take codeine but for some reason I CAN take Vicodin.
FINALLY the doc gave me vicodin. I'm only taking it at night so I can not be in so much pain and I can sleep. I'm dealing with the pain during the daytime hours. I'm determined I am NOT going to become dependent on those damned things. Besides I can stand the pain during waking hours, it's just when I'm trying to sleep it keeps me awake.
So I'm smiling because I can finally sleep pain free!!

Banana Republic had a 40% off deal going on. I found two pair of really nice men's slacks for work very cheap ... and was out of there in way less than an hour. I usually do my shopping online - just order from BR but this was not a bad trip to the local. Their update on the Dawson style chino is great - they made them lower waisted and have off seam front pockets. (my fav style) If you like on seam pockets, go with the Gavin style. By the way, I believe this 40% off any regular priced item is every Wednesday in July. Check with your local store if you are interested.
Stopped at Arby's Roast Beef place on the way home from BR and bought Kelly and I a bag of sandwiches. We had a picnic in bed. That is always fun!

Starting the process to reverse (change back) my name changes (two to be exact)...
Old friends, here and elsewhere that always make me smile even when I'm not in the mood...
Learning to avoid the toxic and keep the good...
Traveling old "roads" again with new spirit...

A wonderful day with laughter and sunshine. Special people in my life are just so amazing to me. Helps me realize that the ones that possess malevolence and who pass by quickly, just fade into darkness and soon become a distant, unimportant thought.
Whats important and what makes me smile are those that withstand the test of time, those who are honest and forthright, true to themselves and others. Those that have love in their hearts, those you can trust and who have compassion and tenderness. Those that are who they claim to be and those that live up to who and what they say they are. Joyful, happy people.
Important lessons, integrity and good ole fashion manners.....THAT is what makes me smile.

Five things actually....
Winning... Riley sweet 70 pound lab of mine.. I have figured out how to battle your wits on the back yard... I know you dont like wet grass.. I dont either... but you are a dog... I am your human.... and you WILL go potty outside! LOL.. Standing off with you feet firmly planted on the ground dodging your every move to get back in the house... VICTORY... 5 mins later you finally pee.. Damn you stuborn ass dog!! lol...
Peppa-Puppy.. yes I guess it is no longer Pepper-Puppy... we have a southern drawl now with your name... You my dog are damn adorable... Those floppy ears that are longer than your head flop as you come running.. Its no wonder i dont stay mad at you long.... I love listening to you and Riley romp and play behind me in the livingroom... Please try not to romp and play under my feet... K?
dear little guy... you are so damn cute... how can something that weighs less than 5 pounds have such an impact on us? We dont know what your future holds but you have a future with us sweetie... I know you like to run.. but we will make sure you never run again... We love you too much...
Ladybug... you seem much happier after your bath.. I am glad you are resting peacefully..
Jewel the neurotic cat... ummm... that is my traveling bag... not a slumber bag... GEEZZZ!!! I hate it when I forget to put it away and find you sleeping in it!!

Seeing a delivery person walk into my office, with the most beautiful flower arrangement of Stargazer lilies, red roses, white mums & purple daisies ~ for no special occasion at all.

Seeing my father's side of the family be so welcoming to Scoote...and so appreciative of her sense of humor. They're far from perfect...but love they understand and share. :stillheart:
