being sung to sleep, and a great start to the day. Even if I got the cruddy cough, I am all smiles
The last of the eagles nests I watch, finally, had their first eaglet this season.
This nest does not have cam operators doing close ups, so it was hard to see if there were any cracks showing in the eggs.
Before, the eaglet emerged, dad took over the incubation duties while a frazzled and exhausted momma picked at a fish. In the cutest and surprising thing, momma took a small bit of fish and tried to feed dad as she would an eaglet.
The look on his face was priceless. Think he was expecting some beak bonding, not lunch.

I'm trying to smile through the tears that are making their way to my eyes. My heart is heavy, today is my Dad's birthday. My memories in my mind are winning, bringing out the smile of remembering him today.
I was the cake baker while I lived at home, and occasionally later after I moved out. He ate everything I ever made. I remember I even gifted him a few years, my dessert of the month club. See....the smile is there:)

Scrolling through my Facebook feed only to see the friendly face of an old high school/college buddy featured on the "Humans of New York" page this afternoon. That gave me a huge smile!
Apparently someone working with me on one of my projects sent the big boss a letter complimenting me for being helpful and very knowledgeable. Nice!

The "sibling rivalry" has taken a different twist as of this am. Lil guy and Brutus are now perfecting their wrestling moves, shoves, take downs, and pinning one another down. Lil guy is smaller but is fast and needs less room to maneuver. He's a survivor.

The free Elton John concert in WeHo in the old Tower Records parking lot at 3pm Eastern today. It is also online at AOL. He doesn't have those really high notes any more, but his voice is still very moving and powerful. And EJ's music still makes me smile. He's doing some old faves and some new stuff. And it makes me happy that he's still creating new stuff!

Gonna sound weird but....a bathroom...
I used the facilities at Chimney Rock state park...and the lady's room at least is painted wall to wall in a forest scene...complete with trees and critters...and bridge on the door opposite the door out.
Made me want to go check out the empty men's room.
Oh and the ceiling was painted like the sky...with clouds....amazing...

The view from the mountain I hiked today....
And the fact that there were two paths to take...and I being one person took the road less traveled by....and there's still another trail for another day...
and I found a secret cabin in the secret valley behind the mountain....no road to it...its just sitting there all quiet...may be worth a gander...

Liberty And Justice were Xmas babies. They should be branching soon. Fledging is about a month or so away. These two are best buds. Sibling rivalry was most averted due to an abundance of food.

Brutus (dark) and Lil Guy (grey and dark) have managed to make it to their 6th week. After some horrendous sibling rivalry - some lack of food related, some due to the renesting of Lil Guy after he was removed from the nest due to a fishing line injury when he was just 10 days old - they seem to have settled into a typical but no longer brutal pattern of coexistence.

The snow and ice had been keeping the trail closed even into this month...
The falls are gorgeous and the surrounding rock face is just breath taking...

Running into someone I hadn't seen in 20 yrs. I heard a cashier call her name, and I listened to her voice and was positive it was her. Then I questioned her about herself she gave me a vague answer then I ask her did u ever live at so and so...that sorta flipped her out. I told her who I was and she's like omg.... Chuckles...I wouldn't have known her had I not heard her name called and associated it with her voice and clearly she wouldnt have known me either. But the whole thing did make us both smile.
Watching lil guy eaglet and Mom having a tug of war over whatever she brought for breakfast this morning. He learned his lessons well. Fight for food, steal food, survive.
Yesterday he waited 2 hours for his incredibly slow eating older sibling to eat the top half of a fish. When his favorite part, the lower half and tail, was free, he stole it like a pro and swallowed it in one gulp. Gross but works for him.
Tough lil bugger.

Brutus, the eaglet fledged today. He made the short distance between the nest tree and the parental sleeping tree with ease. When he got there, he hopped up and down and flapped his wings in pride. Amazingly, he landed with ease and right side up too, and made it back to the nest with ease and right side up as well.
Lil guy was in the nest jumping up and down and flapping too. I like to think it was in solidarity but I suspect he was telling his older sibling to grab some chow while he was out and about. They still havent been fed yet today.
He is now napping in the nest next to lil guy. Lil guy is resting his head on the Brut and has a wing slung over him. Definate kodiak moment (presuming anyone still knows what that means :))

A day after winning the Boston Marathon women’s race, Atsede Baysa gave her trophy to Bobbi Gibb, the first woman to ever finish the marathon, in honor of her bravery and courage 50 years ago.
The Boston Marathon gender barrier fell 50 years ago, on April 19, 1966. That’s when Roberta Gibb, 23, crossed the finish line in 3 hours 21 minutes 40 seconds — in front of more than two-thirds of the male runners that day. To honor her breakthrough, Boston Marathon organizers have named Gibb, who is known as Bobbi, grand marshal of this year’s race.
Two months before the 1966 marathon, Gibb had written race officials to request an entry form.
She received a curt reply: Sorry, we are an A.A.U. event, and A.A.U. regulations forbid women to compete in any race longer than 1.5 miles. Furthermore, “women are physiologically incapable of running 26.2 miles.”
Boston didn’t allow women to run officially until 1972, when Long Island’s Nina Kuscsik became the first official women’s champion.
Gibb said she would keep the trophy for a year, and then bring it to Baysa in her native Ethiopia.

More than made me smile, it made me shout, run around, and dance in my underwear.
I got my results from my Government Board Exams. I passed everything!!!!
When I got the email as I was scrolling, my throat was pounding for my heart being in it, I broke into a flooding sweat and my hand was actually shaking. Not passing would have meant 6 months of working in a spa doing "relaxation massage" which can be taught in a few weeks while I studied for make up board exams. I hard grafted three years of full time school with no life, no dating, no going out, no money, constant stress and an 18 month practicum to do medical massage.
But today, I PASSED. I now just have to get all my paper work in to the government, background checks etc, and get my government practice number. Then I can start working!!!
This has been brutal hard. But I now get to have a piece of the pie!! 46 years old and changing careers for the 4th time. Finally!!!

Then watching a couple episodes of I Love Lucy and Cutthroat Kitchen together.

My life has changed completely. Through greuling hard work (and of course privileges I have).
Four years ago I has beyond broke, working under the table 5000 miles from home because my visa had expired and the home office was dragging its heels so I lost my job with Thames Police. My then wife had run off with a 32 year old who made gobs of money. I was seeing a friend but she was suffering prett bad from undiagnosed mental health issues and I was one of the only support people she had.
I moved contients, lived in the basement of my mom's house for several months, took out a massive loan, went back to school, cracked my head and got a bad concussion, had to take a full term off but continued once it was healed.
It takes 1,500 credit hours in BC to get a BSc in health at uni over four years. I did a program that was 2,700 credit hours in three years. I didn't have time for a job. I had full time school, a practicum, outreach and case studies. I literally ate only flour and water (pancakes) sometimes for days. I developed IBS. Adrenal burn out. I had to sneak onto the train because I had no train fare about 60% of the time.
I graduated in December. I studied for 8-14 hours a day after that for my government board exams in March, when I finished my exams I couldn't celebrate I had to head straight to my mum's as she had been in the hospital while I was writing exams. I looked after her full time for six weeks.
I got notification that I passed my boards on April 28th!! Instead of celebrating I scrambled my ass off to get all the documentation I needed to certify and register to the government. It took another loan from some generous family people to register.
The day after my registration went through, on May 5th, I had a Locum (that's a temp health professional position) job at UBC treating athletes. It was brilliant!!
I started my permenant position this week. I work downtown, across the street from the downtown hospital, in one of the two huge medical buildings. I have an *office* with a fabulous clinic boss and brilliant colleagues. I got my business cards and my stamp last night and the big gold stamped certification came in the mail to hang on the office wall.
I am already booked at 75% after one week. :O
I have had people from the states and the island actually calling as of yesterday to come and see me (I work Saturdays). :O
After this first paycheque I will no longer have to worry about having something to eat the last 4 or five days of the month. I will no longer have to wear my mother's friends hand me downs and feel totally ashamed at how badly they fit and how awful they look on me because they are *70* years old and I'm 46.
I will be able to live on my own and not with two other people in a two bedroom apt.
I will be able to buy a *new* car soon.
I can pay off my debts.
I can put my name on housing co-ops downtown in amazing community based buildings.
I have a job I *love* going to work for.
Money may not buy "happiness" in some ways, but it's hard to be happy when you are freezing, hungry and unable to travel anywhere.
I am the most happy I have ever been in my life. I am content. And calm. And I have a career. It's been a blisteringly hard 4.5 years. But I made if from that girl weeping on the stairs because her wife fucked off, her visa expired and she had no way to pay rent and no local support, having nervous exhaustion and unable to eat - to here.
And I had a LOT of help. Massive love to those who know who they are xxxx

What made me smile today was getting to come to work at 9 instead of before 7. Getting all my work done fairly early and still getting out early even though I came to work late.
But here's what made me smile the biggest I have been at work for an hour and a half when one of my co-workers came in with this nice size box and put on my desk and said what did you order I want to know I'm being nosey. I told her I didn't order anything and I open the box as if it was a bomb it was a box inside of a box inside of a box.
It was a birthday cake from Austin!!! I've never had a birthday cake delivered to work for me before. It was the best thing in the world I was smiling like there was no tomorrow. My co-workers told me I had to share and I had to share a lot and I did wasn't just for me.
I sent her a text to ask if I could be expecting anything else and I asked her another question about later this evening and her reply was possibly ....... grinning. About 5 minutes later if that long I see this woman coming in the door most people don't come in this huge bouquet of balloons. She walks right to my office and says Ted these are for you happy birthday had me sign a piece of paper Turned and Left.
Now I have to tell you the cake was a surprise the balloons were a surprise I have never had anybody send me anything at work for my birthday now of course I've been driving a truck since God was a baby but in the two-plus years that I have been in the office I've never received anything like this she's a keeper.
We spoke briefly and she told me of the trouble she had finding balloons for me. And in that conversation she told me that she would be sending me things for a long time to come. My heart is Overjoyed I cannot explain exactly how happy I am and how much her smile she puts on my face

Lucky you. It seldom rains where I live and when it does rain it's usually stressful—and not just for me. We get lots of floods, mudlslides, more freeway accidents than other places I've lived. Californians take it in stride, but I brace when it rains because I know there will probably be tragedies ... I love the area I live in but I really miss the rain in the Midwest and East Coast.

My resident groundhog had babies. Three of them. Usually I only have groundhog action very early in the morning. But the babies were out off and on, with their mama, all day yesterday. They are so cute! They scurry around munching on things and then run to their mama and run off into the side yard to wherever they have set up house. I'm needing to keep my dog inside more than normal so he doesn't bother them, but he's getting old and it's hot out so I don't hear him complaining.

She knows me so well, loves me for me, and respects me. What a yummy feeling to see her smiling face. I felt happy, warm, and safe.
Yummy!

I had a tiny vase of flowers next to my office door when I arrived. It's not unusual. A very dear co-worker/friend cuts fresh flowers and brings them a lot. She would rather share them than stare at her garden. 😃
Also, I received a very sweet card yesterday from a not typically sweet vice president. He was my direct supervisor but was recently promoted. It started out with..."It's hard for me to share my feelings..." It was full of thanks and praise.
So, with a pile of end of the month deadlines/anxiety, I'm staring at my flowers and thinking about the card AND remembering to breathe and smile.

I often wonder what has ever happened to some of the LTL truck drivers I use to see daily. Some retired, some of the companies went out of business and the drivers went to other companies and don't have our route anymore.
Today while shopping in a closeout hardware store, I came across one of those drivers. I had thought about Lindsey many times over the years and wondered what ever happened to him. He had worked for a company that I knew had gone out of business. Before that I knew the house he and his wife and 3 girls rented had burned down.
Today we recognized each other about at the same time. It makes me smile to know that many of those guys are still living and doing well, some like me getting close to retirement age. It's always good to see an ole friend

Getting good news from a dear friend.
I taking mom to lunch and shopping. She was so happy at lunch with her steak and Margarita not to mention the cheese cake. She set at the table laughing, smiling, and telling me stories. She is cute with way she holds my arm while I escort her from place to place. When I left her she gave me one of dad's old travel alarm clocks from the 50's.
It was a happy and fun day. 《Smiling》

Walking across the back yard and seeing something white in the grass.
No bigger around than a quarter, hollow, with holes broken through on both sides. Somewhere around here is a new baby bird.
The old home is now on my kitchen windowsill. :)

It's been a good day overall but as I was getting out of my car this morning, I turned and saw a beautiful red doe. She looked right at me and I looked right at her and she turned and sauntered the other way. Gorgeous creature!

Sleeping good last night...
Working in my huge tomato garden this morning when the mist was still in the air...
Seeing my baby tomatoes after the blooms...
Feeding my goats a wagon full of honeysuckle...they love it!! These are the most picky goats ever!! They won't eat molassas cookies or oatmeal cookies, and turn their noses up at canteloupe treats....but they love honeysuckle.
Coming inside to help prep for today's family picnic....my homemade slowcooked bbq...my roomie's deviled eggs and slaw...homemade creamed corn and peach cobler ...all from local goodies...
And seeing my sweet old pup happy with his new summer cut.

Oddly enough what made me smile today was work. I know that is cray cray - but it did. We have weekly meetings on Fridays and I have to say when we have them we actually ACCOMPLISH what we set out in the meetings. Meaning, we do not just blah blah and then nothing happens.
Oh and I brought some Dunkin love today and that always helps too.
Currently out running errands and I spotted 2 pretty girls holding up signs that said Free Hugs. :) It is a two for one stop. Haha. Yay me! 《Smiling》

I saw some feathers furiously fluttering in the grass as I pulled into work this morning. At first I thought it was an injured or wounded bird and immediately wondered who I could call at this time of the morning (our Facilities team, Humane Society?). But before I finished that thought the bird flew away and I saw the other bird he was "resting" on. I think I may have interrupted them. Still, it put a smile on my face.
Nice way to start the day.

It's really nice to hear about the things that make everyone happy. :)
So, one of my "clients" (for lack of a better word) made me smile today. She is just about as physically fragile as someone can be, but she was pissed today and when I arrived on the scene she was telling everyone about themselves. So, we talked and she felt comfortable when I left for the afternoon and that made me very happy; but what really made me smile was that after she was feeling better she said something that I won't try to describe in this post because it won't translate (you kind of had to be there) but it was so freaking funny, and so full of humanity at the same time.
