On our school discussion board, we have been talking about this statement in relation to persons with disabilities: "With each level of loss, the individual is faced with adjustment/response demands".

A classmate shared that her mother has MS and continues to walk and do things she used to do although her mother says that it takes her so much longer to do those things and she feels so tired.

I told her "I have great admiration that she continues to walk despite the struggles she has in continuing. That should be an inspiration to you all about who she is as a person. She is determined to not let disability stand in her way."

She responded with this little blurb that made me chuckle and smile. It was definitely a positive thing...."Thank you so much. One of the things she finds to be very helpful is that she exercises daily. She does a 30 minute aerobic video in the morning. She will do the legs part on her back. The cute part is the cat will do the exercises with her and the cat lays on her back also. It is so funny."

I've had an under aged client that had gone missing since the 9th. Once we located him in the neighboring state we could not convince him to take the help and return home. There was no forcing him to take the help..or to return, as he is over the age of 16 and the laws do not allow forceful return.


After many failed attempts, today he accepted the help offered, was admitted into the hospital for treatment, and is now safe. I am grateful to everyone that assisted. This has filled my heart with much joy and eased my mind more than words could describe. This made me smile today.

I worked outside all day today. Rearranged the garden, pulled weeds, spread a pick up trucks worth of cedar mulch, set the flagstone straight. My body is Sooo gonna pay me back for all that tomorrow, but it's worth it cause everything looks perfect!

I called about a practicum site again today and the woman remarked at how I have been having a hard time getting her all week and she was just headed in for a group session. She said she was going to turn the phone over to her secretary and she would give me the telephone number of the main facility to speak to Human Resources. I got the number, the name, and extension. I called and she told me she would call back the woman I just spoke to and have her do an interview. I would have an application to fill out and I needed to talk to her again in the afternoon. So I called this afternoon and this woman tells me she really doesn't want to do an interview, but she wanted to let me know there is much more involved than just apply and interview. I would have to go through fingerprinting, child abuse clearances, federal clearances, etc...and asked if I had a problem with that. I told her I had no problem with any of that and actually already had my child abuse clearances. She informed me she wanted new ones because of how old these were. I said ok - that would be fine. I asked if all of the paperwork would go through by the end of May and she said we will make it work. Soooo...she asked me to call her cell phone on Sunday to make an appointment for Monday. It looks like I am in! this woman is also working on her Master's degree AND is the sister of a gentleman I have not seen in years, but used to be friends with. Her and her brother also know my parents from attending the same church years ago when my parents were still able to do that. It sounds like a good situation and after the conversation I felt a BIG HUGE weight lifted off of my shoulders. Have I said lately how blessed that I am? I truly am blessed. :cool:

actually yesterday: having 2 very good friends bring my son to see me while I am going on 10 days in the hospital. he was so happy to see me and just like a gentleman, he was careful of my IVs and such. he also gave me one of his stuffed toys to sleep with. he is such an awesome little miracle in my life. :stillheart::stillheart:

I ventured into Walmart today (I know..) and among all the things that made me go "WHA???" there was one thing that made me smile.

There was a couple of developmentally disabled adults standing in the checkout line. Both were just doing their thing, emptying their basket when one of them gets the most excited look on his face and digs way down into the basket and comes up with the cutest stuffed monkey. He hugged that monkey so hard and gave it the biggest kiss....his face was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen...it was Bliss, pure bliss. You don't get to see that everyday.

my nephews are here. We babysat them last night. I was listening to chrissy teach the oldest how to cook bacon. They buy the precooked bacon you pop in the microwave. SO not a good choice because of the preservatives! And the bland taste cannot compare to real bacon! I smiled as the sub and the child enjoyed moments in the kitchen, bonding over food. Finding an old jewelry box of mine in a taped up moving box, and realizing I had some old out of date gold bling (I'm talking Micky Mouse charms, a broken panda coin ring, etc). Walking out of my appointment today and dealing differently than i would have in the past.. No internalizing, no self abuse, no negative thoughts.. i had hoped for extra funding for the course i applied to take, but it won't happen, and that's okay.. Regardless of how unfair it seems, i didn't get discouraged and it only fueled my fire to do this regardless.. i am determined and fully ready to do anything i need to, in order to make this happen.. i'm excited, hopeful and want this really bad..

39 years old and applying to go to school, that's pretty thrilling to me.. So many years i've 'wanted' to and lost the courage..

Sacramento Public Library will celebrate National Library Week with programs built around the theme You Belong @ your library. This message of belonging will be underscored by the library’s programming efforts, specifically designed to encourage the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and ally (GLBTQIA) community to rediscover (or discover for the first time) all the services, materials and resources available at the library.
Funded through a $3,000 grant sponsored by Scholastic Library Publishing, a division of Scholastic Inc., these programs seek to recognize and celebrate this underserved Sacramento community. “We wish to reinforce the message that our Sacramento Public Library locations are places of belonging for all members of the community,” stated Rivkah K. Sass, library director.

All families are invited to the library’s Rainbow Egg Hunt. Noted columnist Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller created the It Gets Better project as a response to the increasing number of GLBT teen suicides as a result of bullying. The national project has produced numerous videos that have been uploaded to the It Gets Better website.
