I am happy to report that I went to the grocery store today and I did not feel sad or lonely.

Of course there were a lot of distracting college girls at the store :). See I live in a college town. I always help the college students maneuver through the store and any additional assistance I can provide. I am just a Boy Scott at heart :).

Anyway it was a better shopping experience than usual.

This last two weeks I came to realize something that made me..happy.

My grandmother had a daughter and four sons.
My mother had a daughter and four sons.
I have a daughter and four sons.

Of course, biologically I have one son and one daughter, but I have three other boys between an exgf and my wife that mean the world to me. Children are the most precious thing in the world and nothing will ever change that. I never wanted to raise any more children, and definitely never planned on going through it all again, but if I have any regrets, it's that I didn't have more time with any of my children. There's nothing like taking the boys in for haircuts or comics, and buying the girl fancy underthings or that perm she was dying for.

What made me smile....

a phone call from my mom as soon as she got out of the doctor. All of her test results were normal! The couple spells where it seemed like she was having a mini stroke were either stress related or something to do with her blood sugar! YAY Mommy!!

and he got 61 yards in the preseason game last week, I don't remember how many catches he got though.

I went to Trader Joe's before I went to meet my mom to finish a cleaning job. I found some grapes that are a hybrid of Concord and Thompson grapes.
I knew how much she lovesss Concord grapes so I got us some...

When I met up with her I told her I got her some grapes...she turned to walk away saying "no thanks''...I pulled them out of the bag and told her what kind they were.....she stopped mid step and couldn't get some fast enough! :)

My mama spent her life making sure we got what we wanted and needed. It makes me endlessly happy to do that for her on occasion. Even if it's something as small as grapes.... <3

Went to my daughter's boyfriend's high school football game tonight. At halftime, a small "marching" band walked out onto the field, played with pride despite not having much gift for music, then walked back off. I was talking to my little twelve year old penpal on AIM a little bit ago, he's in sixth grade and has to name a hundred and fifteen elements on the periodic table. I was thinking what an idiotic thing to have someone do, they KNOW he will have to look it all up on the internet and then write it all down, but he bloody well won't remember it. I was telling him when I was a kid, we didn't have the internet, but my parents had encyclopedias. Then I got to realizing how I loved those things and read them like books. When I was in my early twenties I agonized over buying a set so my kids would have some but financially it was out of my reach. It turns out when they got to the ages of needing them, they had internet. I felt badly briefly about them never knowing the joy of just reading through the encyclopedias and see the pictures, but then I just smiled at how things turned out and how so many people have so much information they can tap into so easily.

Well as some of you know by now I do not like to grocery shop by myself because it is a reminder that I am single and alone.

Today I was shopping keeping a close eye one my list and not on the happy couples around me. Well as some of you know by now I do not like to grocery shop by myself because it is a reminder that I am single and alone.

Today I was shopping keeping a close eye one my list and not on the happy couples around me. A friend was in town all day and I finally got to meet her new gf.

A successful family visit that could have been stressful. Family that was "removed" before I was born, due to a divorce, who I met for the first time 12 years ago. Two of my cousins from that family are in the military and are visiting this week so I went to visit and meet their new babies. The family is very conservative, anti-obama, and other stuff I won't get into here. We'll just say that our politics really conflict. However, they are also kind, run a farm, have a lot of kids, etc. We had a nice visit. We kept conversation to neutral and communal territory of parenting, homeschooling, food, and family we have in common. I got to hold little babies who slept and cooed on my lap. Left with a smile.

I spent yesterday afternoon with a couple of our users at the other building. My team codes their software needs, provides support, trouble-shoots server issues, etc.

This one fellow was having issue with an application I wrote around three years ago - it would not perform the upload portion, the correct error message displayed indicating an unknown ID. This guy is not in the "popular in-crowd" over in our users group. People make fun of him and I find this annoying. Turns out 8 IDs were added and we should have been given a heads up but were not. I talked to my supervisor this morning, explained what was going on. He said he would email the chief and assistant chief over there about it. I told him to be sure, in this email, to give my user a big pat on the back for making the discovery, plus do a courtesy copy to both my user and my user's supervisor. I was afraid my supervisor would leave it out. I would not have been surprised if he did but (YAY) he didn't. Grapevine told me this morning it made user's day. *big smile*

I will have a word on tomorrow with my supervisor about why he didn't remind the chief and assistant chief to tell us when new IDs will be introduced into our system. They have known about these 8 new IDs since May. He did not even say that in the email and I thought that part was a given. My supervisor is very diplomatic but way too passive. I find the passive crap infuriating.
