What didn't make me smile today! It was a perfect day. Beautiful holiday with my precious angels, perfect yummy dinner in courses ...first, artisan olive bread w/ dipping sauce & cheese cubes - then, delicious Xmas salad which is just a romaine salad w/ cranberries and walnuts, Italian dressing - then, an awesome pesto basil pasta entree that was to die for - and lastly, pumpkin cheesecake. Drinks of amaretto and cranberry spritzers, a rum shot here and there = ) fun gift opening, so much laughter and to top everything off.... it ❆snowed. Mhmmmm magical Christmas snow everywhere! It's gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! We were out playing in it having so much fun. I could not be any happier than I am right now.

Christmas gifts of course. For years I have told anyone who asks, I don't need a thing...my family has gotten really practical in gifting. Their creativity shocks me and it seems they alway come up with something that is exactly what I needed.

This year someone gave me a journal. I haven't kept a journal in years. I should have so I can look back and see how far I've come and how far I have yet to go. So with that one gift I have been inspired to begin writing again and embrace the journey. Which I should have been doing all along.

Giving the baked goods I have prepared over the last month, unexpected gifts from others, spending quality time with family, and the comfort of knowing I am living independently, feel very complete, and do not need someone else to help me to feel competent, happy, and valuable. I am blessed and for that reason I smile.

My dad and stepmonster showed up about lunchtime. Luckily, I had about 10 gallons of fire roasted chili on hand that I made last night. It was odd. They handed me a card with 135 dollar gift cards from random restaurants and a 50 dollar bill. I then offered them chili and cake balls. It felt like a scene from napolean dynamite. He ended up banging around on my piano and we sang for several hours. I gave them a painting upon departure. The step said...we have no place to hang it. I told her I could give it to someone else then. She said no. I said OK. My dad then asked me to record some tracks. I said OK. This day was so weird. It makes me smile.

It's been an interesting Christmas for sure. I've managed to give myself little pressies all day long, from setting up the perfect Christmas pressie arrangement around the tree (a thing for me), to playing Santa, to watching holiday shows, to opening the holiday cards from an exchange here in small groups all throughout the day, to having yummy 'I didn't have to cook it' food to having a nice, long talk with someone. It's definitely been a smile-worthy day.

Breakfast with my girls. The oldest is on college break and her little sister is so thrilled to spend time with her it is so cute.

We said grace together and held hands while doing so. I feel so blessed to be able to be with them and feel their amazing beautiful energy. No matter what comes my way, I have the love of these phenomenal young women who are strong, independent and ready to change the world. I love them so much.

We were all very aware of the empty seat at the table where their Mom would normally be, but we included Mom in our prayers and enjoyed our time together in the spirit of love.

So much has. This has been an incredible week.

Acceptance to transfer right into the LPN course from the course i was in which was originally the course i wanted to take in the first place. One spot available and they chose me - big smile - Lots more hard work, many more clinicals, and an extra year of studies, but this puts me exactly where i need to be and i'm SO thrilled for Our future.

An invitation for an awards dinner because i've also won a scholarship.

I told her in the meantime she should get her CNA license and see if it will truly interest her. Halfway through our hectic day a co-worker asks me if I want something from Tim Ho's. I got all excited and lit up, and then it hit my brain that she didn't really say DD. So, I dropped the face of excitement and said no thank you. She recognized the difference of my expressions in zero minus 2 seconds and said that I appear to have wanted something and suddenly changed my mind. I said yeh, I thought you said DD. She said that she could stop in there too since it's like right across the street from Tim Ho's.

I am not a smoker - I do however enjoy a nice cigar every now and again - with a nice glass of Woodford Reserve - (but) yesterday I got an early birthday present from my father.

He says he has been waiting for the (right) time to give to me - which was actually a few years ago - but he had misplaced and has been cleaning out every box and "keepsake" box for the last year looking for it - and I'm so glad that he did.

I am now the happy and proud receiver of my grandfathers old meerschaum pipe...I remember the smell of the fascinating aromas that used to waft from that pipe as a kid...he didn't smoke often - every now and again - on a quiet evening cold winter nights - or late summer nights on the porch - as he would sit and talk to me of all manner of things...

Surely - I am blessed in too many ways too count - for many different reasons...

I am happy to be keeper of this precious memory of him now...and that has made me smile (this morning).
