A funny thing happened to me at the Chicken Pie Shop (yes, that is the name of the resturant, lol). I was finishing up lunch with my friend and was eating a piece of pineapple cream pie.. Sadly, the crust was REALLY hard.. I was going at it with my fork and I guess I pushed too hard and the plate flipped up, spun in the air twice and the pie hit me full in the chest and bounced off onto the table.. The plate spun onto the floor and slid ten feet to settle under a counter. It made a LOT of noise. My friend and I laughed our asses off as I cleaned myself up.
During all of this our waitress passed us twice and didn't stop.. There were other customers in the place and no one looked around. It was hilariously weird.. I have to say, a pie in the (almost) face in public.. and no one even looked twice. lol
I left a dollar tip, she had it coming to her! My friend had to get up and find more napkins to clean me up, lol
I love thier chicken pot pie, but thier service sucked ass and the crust on a cream pie really souldn't have been that hard.. lmao

When Tony, my 20 yr old, was in elementary school and first learning cursive letters, the teacher sent home an "instruction manual" to show us parents how even cursive has changed since we were in school. It was quite interesting.

Bless your heart!
My elderly Mom got the shingles a year ago in May. She is still dealing wih the pain.
Just make sure you build your immune sysem back up and take at easy for a few weeks. There are many opportunistic infections that can crop up.
I am glad your on the mends.
A pair of boots that I ordered were delivered today. I *was* very pleased.
But then I saw another pair of boots online this evening that I think I like even more (and for a better price!).
They had 2 colours that I loved and couldn't decide--with the better price, why not get both?
So, I order two of the second version of boots and must wait in order to decide which ones I like best and return either shipment A or shipment B.
My exciting night of online shopping anxiety.
(i do love a great pair of boots!)

I love...malted milk chocolate balls
I love to put them in my mouth and lay them on my tongue and let the chocolate melt and coat my tongue
I like how the little ball gets hard before it starts to let loose as it mixes with my juices
I love the middle core that sometimes is harder still and can offer a really great grind for my teeth...
I love that I can do it over and over and over again ball after ball
and never feel satiated but in total control
until it is all over and there are no more
and then I weep and wait another six months before I indulge myself once more

"UM debuts at No. 13 in Associated Press poll"
I am enjoying 'two fat ladies'...it's an old cooking show...what's amazing to me is that I wouldn't eat *anything* they cook, but I love LOVE them!!...they take such pleasure in what and how they cook...they like eachother...*and* you can tell the love to eat!!...all-in-all a glorious program...
I am happy to have come home from the hospital...I love my doctor and that he doesn't stint on the pain meds...4-mg of i.v. morphine every 2 hours makes the time there Much more tolerable...
now I have to try and take it easy, which I hate to do, and heal up with, hopefully, no problems...
and, I am so fucking relieved that while I thought I'd done something, inadvertently, to someone which caused them to not want to deal with me, isn't the case...so, that's nice...
*and* how someone who I thought was a friend and turned out to be a schmuck isn't speaking to me any more...how lucky am I??!!---no, really I see it as luck....
OH--one more random thought...I have decided to indulge in every food graving I have 'till my birthday and then do right...in that spirit I have called in an order to zabars, in nyc, which will come early this week...babkas and ruglaugh...today, home from the hospital, I had a real apple craving...we went to a good store for produce and I bought all I wanted...got them home and found that all the kinds, save one, were way too Tart...so now I have a lovely apple crisp which I made hot from the oven...letting the apples caramelize with butter and good maple syrup with fresh vanilla did the trick !!
and now, my randomness is to an end !

[Andrew *A sentient robot* & Rupert *Inventor* Discussing Sex]
Rupert Burns: What do they say?
Andrew Martin: That you can lose yourself. Everything. All boundaries. All time. That two bodies can become so mixed up, that you don't know who's who or what's what. And just when the sweet confusion is so intense you think you're gonna die... you kind of do. Leaving you alone in your separate body, but the one you love is still there. That's a miracle. You can go to heaven and come back alive. You can go back anytime you want with the one you love.
Rupert Burns: And you want to experience that?
Andrew Martin: Oh, yes, please.
Rupert Burns: So do I.*wistful sigh*

The following questions were set in last year's GED examination.
These are genuine answers (from 16 year olds) and they WILL breed.
Q. Name the four seasons
A. Salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar
Q. Explain one of the processes by which water can be made safe to drink
A. Flirtation makes water safe to drink because it removes large pollutants like grit, sand, dead sheep and canoeists.
Q. How is dew formed?
A. The sun shines down on the leaves and makes them perspire
Q. What causes the tides in the oceans?
A. The tides are a fight between the earth and the moon. All water tends to flow towards the moon, because there is no water on the moon, and nature abhors a vacuum. I forget where the sun joins the fight.
Q. What guarantees may a mortgage company insist on?
A. If you are buying a house they will insist that you are well endowed
Q. In a democratic society, how important are elections?
A. Very important. Sex can only happen when a male gets an election
Q. What are steroids?
A. Things for keeping carpets still on the stairs (Shoot yourself now, there is little hope)
Q. What happens to your body as you age?
A. When you get old, so do your bowels and you get intercontinental
Q. What happens to a boy when he reaches puberty?
A. He says goodbye to his boyhood and looks forward to his adultery (So true)
Q. Name a major disease associated with cigarettes?
A. Premature death
Q. What is artificial insemination?
A. When the farmer does it to the bull instead of the cow
Q. How can you delay milk turning sour?
A. Keep it in the cow (Simple, but brilliant)
Q. How are the main 20 parts of the body categorized (e.g. the abdomen) ?
A. The body is consisted into 3 parts - the brainium, the borax and the abdominal cavity. The brainium contains the brain, the borax contains the heart and lungs and the abdominal cavity contains the five bowels:A, E, I,O,U. (wtf!)
Q. What is the fibula?
A. A small lie
Q. What does 'varicose' mean?
A. Nearby
Q. What is the most common form of birth control?
A. Most people prevent contraception by wearing a condominium (That would work)
Q. Give the meaning of the term 'Caesarean section'
A. The caesarean section is a district in Rome
Q. What is a seizure?
A. A Roman Emperor. (Julius Seizure, I came, I saw, I had a fit)
Q. What is a terminal illness?
A. When you are sick at the airport. (Irrefutable)
Q. Give an example of a fungus. What is a characteristic feature?
A. Mushrooms. They always grow in damp places and they look like umbrellas
Q. Use the word 'judicious' in a sentence to show you understand its meaning.
A. Hands that judicious can be soft as your face. (OMG)
Q. What does the word 'benign' mean?
A. Benign is what you will be after you be eight (brilliant)
Q. What is a turbine?
A. Something an Arab or Shreik wears on his head

Thank you for contacting my office regarding health care concerns. I appreciate hearing from you.
As a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, it is essential that I remain fully informed in all areas of health care policy. During the 111th Congress, we will debate various health issues, such as the complex question of managed health care and the Federal role in its regulation, as well as reforms to the Medicare program, including its prescription drug benefit. Along with providing access to affordable health care for all Americans, my top legislative priorities include necessary increases in funding for all aspects of biomedical research within the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, and ensuring the appropriate examination and refinement of the vital public health programs administered by the Federal government.
Again, I appreciate your taking the time to bring your views on this issue to my attention. The concerns of my constituents are of great importance to me, and I rely on you and other Pennsylvanians to inform me of your views. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit my website at http://specter.senate.gov.

It is sweltering tonight... summer has finally dragged its sorry ass in and is apparently making up for lost time. It's the kind of night that no matter how tired, how sleepy I am, I know deep in my gut that there's no sleep coming any time soon.
The windows are wide open but there's no breeze. It's almost 4am and it still hasn't cooled much. I keep going out on the balcony to cool off and get some air but it doesn't help. I'm cranky and frustrated and restless..
Maybe its more than just the heat.
And for some strange reason, this scene keeps playing in my head..

"I am a Yankees fan," a first-grade teacher explains to her class. "Who likes the Yankees?" Everyone raises a hand except one girl.
"Janie," the teacher says, surprised. "Why didn't you raise your hand?"
"I am not a Yankees fan."
"Well, if you are not a Yankees fan, then what team do you like?"
"The Red Sox," Janie answers.
"Why in the world are you a Red Sox fan?"
"Because my mom and dad are."
"That's no reason to be a Red Sox fan," the teacher replies, annoyed. "You don't always have to be just like your parents. What if your mom and dad were morons? What would you be then?"
"A Yankees fan."

Many set themselves up for failure by thinking they should be happy constantly. When it doesn't turn out that way, they wonder what is wrong with them and/or their lives that they aren't feeling happy.
Instead, they should realize that happiness is an emotion - as are sadness, anger, surprise and excitement. If one realizes that all emotions ebb & flow, and let go of the theory that unless they are feeling happy the majority of time they are not "normal", many will soon figure out that life is easier to manage on a day-to-day basis.
Why not focus on feeling contentment instead? Ask yourself, "Am I content right now?" If the answer is anything besides yes, try to figure out what you can do to help get yourself closer to the goal of contentment.
Having said that, one must also remember that it is prefectly "normal" to feel sad, blue, anxious or other "negative" emotions from time-to-time. Do not discount these emotions. Often, when we deny or bury emotions, they will linger under the surface and find other, unhealthy ways of emerging. When you find yourself feeling sad, for example, allot a set amount of time to immerse yourself in the emotion and the causes for it; to think about why you might be feeling this way.
And then focus on letting go of that emotion, of not allowing it to consume you. If it's a situation you can do something about, try writing possible solutions or plans to change it, then act on it.
If it is something that you do not have control over, try telling yourself exactly that: "I do not have control over that. There is nothing at all I can do about it." and work on letting it go instead of allowing it to eat away at you.
Practice this as often as needed. Practice makes perfect.

In completely unrelated news, I've potato saladed my mouse.

OK, so i'm on the way home from my appointment and i pass a car stopped in an on-coming lane and see the driver walking toward the gas station holding his gas can thingy, so i swing around and pick him up.
He's thanking me profusely & all the usual stuff. After he gets gas, we head back to his car and i jokingly say with a smile, "i almost didn't help you after i saw that Clemson tag on the front of your car!" <laughs>. (i am a USC fan even though i've never watched a game)
Well! He actually got offended and sort of sputtered and didn't say anything else, and when i pulled up behind his car he got out, slammed the car door and stomped away without looking back!
i had to laugh! :hangloose: Dang Clemson up-tights! :nixon:

Take on me.
I think that behavior modification can be useful---BUT, it can also be so painfully simplistic and even cruel...I used to write BM programs...detailed and intense programs for patients who were felt to be incapable of self awareness so the 'goal' was to change the target behaviors, those which were causing the most day-to-day problems...the programs took forever to develop and write...then had to go through a strict committee approval process...there was something disturbingly superior and othering about the whole experience...I didn't like it, although since I can be crazy detailed and analytical, I did a good job...
it's simplistic to think that by forcing someone to change a behavior that the underlying cause is remediated...I think that there may well be whole other behaviors which arise to replace the modified ones...kind of like squishing those balls which redistribute the jell inside as it's compressed in different places...
that is my random yap for this morning as I randomly think on things...

Dory?! I loved that movie. Yay. Notice I said nothing about the bruise.
Sweden, Harrang, claims to have the largest African American France camp in the world. A dance troupe, The Rhythm Hot Shots, put it on. Or, at least Leonard from the group does. I went for two weeks. We came from all over the world. Filled the town Amazing.

P.S. the troupe is on YouTube. Check them out doing Lindy Hop. They learned, initially by watching old movies, like A Day at the Races. Later, they learned from Harlem born dancer and choreographer, Frankie Manning, who also, along with Steven Mitchell, taught me. Frankie and Stevens are on the tube, too. In case you get curious. And, yeah, I could dance that fast ... not more than one, now, or call 911. Lol

In Canada, we have paid parental leave for close to a year (50 weeks) where 55% of one's average insured earnings (max $43 200=$457/week). More fathers are taking part of this parental leave than in the past.
FYI:The United States is the only Western country that does not mandate paid parental leave, although the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 mandates unpaid parental leave for the majority of American workers. (wiki)
P.S. Hope Dory isn't too painful! Cute name for a bruise!
as I was clicking around I found 'billy the exterminator' is on...it's an episode with gater-dave...*and* as if that weren't fun enough, they have scheduled 'billy' and his pals 'till 12:30 am this morning !!...now isn't That a treat for a girl who over did it yesterday and is too sore and worn out to do much except eat home-made apple sauce and delicate bites of Cake!! :)
I really miss my partner big time today...woke up thinking he was still next to me...and then I started to cry...he would have gone MAD for billy...well, he would have like the whole alligators and snakes ' stuff, not sure he'd have been into the icky ones...he saved me from critters more than once
and so we have more random chat from the nina-the-random-chatter :)

I call September the month of birthdeath.....my daughter was born on August 30th (close enough) and died on September 27th. My father was born on September 5th & died on September 30th.....
I was having an interesting discussion about death with a dear, dear friend...and I likened the death of one's child like being in a theatre.....and when one loses a child, You walk up the steps to the mezzanine level. Sure there may be a few others up there with You, but the majority of folks are down in the lobby....milling about....carrying on conversations with one another.
Losing a child takes a parent to a different level of understanding about death. It's a different flavor altogether than having lost a parent or cousin or uncle or grandparent.
(I'm not writing this for pity....truly. I'm really ok! <smile> I find death and grief intriguing, actually.)
