Every year after Halloween, we see hundreds of neighbors just throwing their pumpkins away! They have made their jack-o-lantern, and now they don’t know what to do with it.

It’s important to know what to do with leftovers – such as pumpkins. Instead of wastefully throwing them away, you could use pumpkins to create butter, heal your skin, make biscuits, create air fresheners and more!

Keep these uses of pumpkins in mind for this year’s holiday season. Share the knowledge too so we don’t see people just throwing away their pumpkins!

Pumpkin puree
One of the most helpful thing to know about re-using our pumpkin is knowing how to make pumpkin puree. The puree can then be used for cooking all types of dishes including pies, cakes, muffins, smoothies, etc. This could save you from buying all those cans of pumpkin during the Fall season.

Start by cutting the pumpkin down the middle, cut out the extra seeds and cuts and set them aside. Place the pumpkin cut-side down on a baking dish along with a cup of water and bake for about 90 minutes. The flesh will become very tender. After baking, scoop the flesh and blend it in a food processor.

Donate them to a farmer
Instead of throwing out the pumpkins, make use of them by feeding them to animals. You can donate them to a local farmer so they can feed their animals.

Pumpkin Butter
Everyone knows that fresh bread is better with butter. Make some festive butter with your old jack-o-lantern. Add 2 cups of pumpkin puree into a saucepan along with a cup of brown sugar and a cup of water or apple cider. You can then add a pinch of salt along with some pumpkin pie spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger.

Stir all the ingredients together and bring it to a boil. After it reaches a boil, lower the temperature and allow to simmer for 25 minutes. Once the butter has cooled, store in a glass jar and refrigerator.

Heal your skin
You can even use your old pumpkins to create a refreshing exfoliating face mask.

You’ll need:

• 1 teaspoon green tea, brewed
• 2 teaspoon Saratoga Farms Pineapple, diced
• 4 tablespoons pumpkin puree
• 1 tablespoon Honey
• 2 teaspoons aloe vera gel
• 1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil
• 4 teaspoons Saratoga Farms Cornmeal

Directions:
1. Steep green tea in boiling water. Set aside to cool.
2. In blender or food processor, puree pineapple and place in medium-sized mixing bowl. Add pumpkin, honey and aloe. Mix well.
3. Stir in jojoba oil, green tea and cornmeal.
4. Reserve remaining green tea for another use. Apply small amount of pumpkin mask to cheeks, forehead, chin and neck. Massage in circular motions gently buffing skin. Repeat. Apply more product as needed. Leave a thin layer of pumpkin mask on face and neck for 15-20 minutes.
5. Rinse with tepid or cool water and pat dry with soft towel. Follow with appropriate moisturizer.
6. Store remaining mask covered in refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Floating candle
A little-known fact about pumpkins is that they are very good at floating – particularly the small pumpkins. Remove the pumpkin’s stem. Place a tea candle on top of the small pumpkin and trace its outline. Carefully cut out the tracing to a depth that will fit the depth of the candle. You can then place the candle snuggly in the pumpkin and then float them in a bowl of water as a fun Thanksgiving decoration.

Pumpkin biscuits
Add some (pumpkin) spice to your Thanksgiving dinner table with some unique and tasty biscuits! You can use your old pumpkin to create a delicious side that will make your guests pester you for the recipe. This recipe will create about 20 biscuits.

You’ll need:

• 2 cups Saratoga Farms Flour
• 1 tablespoon Saratoga Farms Baking Powder
• 3/4 teaspoon Saratoga Farms Salt
• 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
• 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
• 1/2 cup regular milk
• 3 tablespoons melted butter
• 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Directions:
1. Start by preheating your oven to 450 degrees. Lightly oil a baking sheet.
2. Gently mix the flour, baking powder, salt and allspice in a large bowl and allow to sit.
3. Combine the pumpkin, milk, butter, and maple syrup in a medium bowl and stir until it is smooth.
4. Combine the two bowls of mixture and stir until the mixture holds together. If you overmix the biscuits will be rough.
5. Roll the dough out on a lightly-floured work surface and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness. Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place the dough pieces on the prepared baking sheet.
6. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.

Air freshener
People love the smell of pumpkins and they bring a festive smell to your home. Simply rub your favorite spice on the inside of the jack-o-lantern and light it with a tea candle. You might have to turn the pumpkin so the Halloween face isn’t obvious but the scent will still be great!

Flower pot
In order to create a pumpkin flower pot, find a medium-sized narrow pumpkin. Cut a hole in the top that is the width of a mason jar. Carefully remove all the innards of the pumpkin. Place your flowers inside of a mason jar of water. Lower the mason jar into the pumpkin along with the flowers and you’re done! Show off your beautiful pumpkin flowers around your home or give them away as a gift!

There are a few ways to post a youtube video, but this is how I do it:

I find the video I want to post and I copy the link. I paste the link inside the post I want and then I take everything out to, and including, the =. So, if it says sidluelrei3=fouduy20, then I would take the sidluelrei3= out, leaving the fouduy20 behind. Select that and click the youtube link in the upper right above the reply box.

Some folks may have an easier way of doing it, but this is how I've been doing it for years and it's habit now.

You can just copy the link from youtube and insert that. We'd have to click on it to bring youtube up, but at least we'd know what it was that you wanted to share. :)

Today is All Hallows' Eve, or Halloween. The modern holiday comes from an age-old tradition honoring the supernatural blending of the world of the living and the world of the dead. Halloween is based on a Celtic holiday called Samhain. The festival marked the start of winter and the last stage of the harvest. It was believed that the dark of winter allowed the spirits of the dead to transgress the borders of death and haunt the living.

Eventually, Christian holidays developed at around the same time. During the Middle Ages, November 1 became known as All Saints' Day, or All Hallows' Day. The holiday honored all of the Christian saints and martyrs. Medieval religion taught that dead saints regularly interceded in the affairs of the living. On All Saints' Day, churches held masses for the dead and put bones of the saints on display. The night before this celebration of the holy dead became known as All Hallows' Eve. People baked soul cakes, which they would set outside their house for the poor. They also lit bonfires and set out lanterns carved out of turnips to keep the ghosts of the dead away.

It is one of the most famous works of art in the world - so why isn't the Vatican making more of its big anniversary?

Perhaps second only in fame to Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Michelangelo's magnificent frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel opened to the public for the first time 500 years ago this week
in St Peter's Basilica in Rome.

This masterpiece of Renaissance art, at around 40 metres long by 13 metres wide (460 square metres), includes 343 figures with nine central panels depicting the stories of the Old Testament from the Creation to the fall of man.

The narrative on the ceiling shows God creating the Sun, Moon and Earth, Adam and Eve, the temptation and expulsion from the Garden of Eden and the story of Noah's Ark.

A funny thing happened @ the beach today ....(it's funny now -cough-)
My brother and I were body surfing, the waves were gettin'gnarly, and fuckin'fun....however....earlier?
Before I threw off my flip flops, before I rejected a 5$ beach chair.....My Aunt, my mother, my 2 cousins, my Date......and my brother when I dive-bombed in the water....all of ém said "Take off your glasses & your necklace {I'm sure u see where this is going now}, I told each and every one of them Ï need to see the ocean, I want to see her again, I want to enjoy the beauty of it...and this isn't a necklace it's an Eleke.."
Yup...
I saw it....
At one point, I had everything all under control, I did my ritual prayers to Yemaya & Olokun{i forgot a few important ofrendas btw}, had fun ridin'the Waves, at one point I stopped....3 ladies, wearing....or barely wearing insanely itty bitty bikinis....I'm talkin' just a few patches with dental floss.....
My brother caught sight of it, and of course, we're standing there like 2 fucktarts that never saw a naked body{we both caught hell, but i digress}
What we didn't notice?
The water receding for a Big wave, behind us....
That shit caught us offguard to the point we ROLLED....I'm 5'9", my brother's 6' 2", when that wave decided to let us go..I thought we got in a riptide, and kissed my ass goodbye....
Gasping for air, spitting sand after plucking my face from the beach, everything was foggy, and my brother was about...a few yards away doing the same, and giggling.....
Me? I rubbed my face, and mumbled Öh fuck....fuckfuckfuck, i'm not gonna hear the end of this"
I checked my neck, and Eleke was there.....
I was puzzled briefly....
200$ pair of glasses? Somewhere in the Ocean now..{we searched for ém on shore}
5$ Sacred necklace? Safe and sound around my neck....
They were mildly sympathetic, mostly cuz I relied on touch and foggy shadows....
My hearing aids were safe in my jacket in the beachbag...
Everyone smirked....everyone.....even a cousin who wasn't even there when it happened, at dinner, he shows up in FedEx uniform and smiles ear to ear, and asks

Female circumcision, the partial or total cutting away of the external female genitalia, has been practiced for centuries in parts of Africa, generally as one element of a rite of passage preparing young girls for womanhood and marriage. Often performed without anesthetic under septic conditions by lay practitioners with little or no knowledge of human anatomy or medicine, female circumcision can cause death or permanent health problems as well as severe pain. Despite these grave risks, its practitioners look on it as an integral part of their cultural and ethnic identity, and some perceive it as a religious obligation.

Remembering Auguste Rodin, the French sculptor and artistic innovator

From 1880 to the early years of the 20th century, Rodin created some of his most famous works: "The Kiss" (which depicts a scene from "The Inferno"), "The Burghers of Calais," "The Gates of Hell," and "The Thinker," which was first exhibited in 1904. Initially, "The Thinker" was placed in front of the Pantheon, an old church in the French Quarter of Paris; in the 1920s, it was moved to the newly-established Musée Rodin.

Rodin died in 1917, at the age of 77, in Meudon, a suburb of Paris. But his legacy lives on today.

Again, from the Website of the Rodin Museum: "The hallmarks of Rodin's style – his affinity for the partial figure, his focus on formal qualities and relationships rather than on narrative structure, and his desire to retain the marks of the sculptural process on his finished works – were revolutionary in his time. Thank you for posting this. The Rodin Sculpture Garden @ Cantor Arts Center, Stanford University is one of my favorite places in CA to go for a walk. The Gates of Hell, I believe a replica, sits at the far end of the garden.

Teacher Accused of Turning Student Into a Lesbian
A teacher retaliates after her school district investigated her for turning a student into a lesbian, as charged by the student's parents.

A Florida high school teacher is fighting her school district over its poor handling of a parent's accusation that she turned his daughter into a lesbian.

The Deerfield Beach High School student's stepfather realized that his stepdaughter was a lesbian through her Twitter feed. He resorted to sending her inflammatory messages on Twitter, which the teacher, Juliet Hibbs, eventually discovered.

"As each message came, she got smaller," Hibbs told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I watched her get destroyed."

As a result, Hibbs reported the stepfather's harassment as child abuse and cyberbullying. Since the young woman was 18, an abuse counselor also told her that she was not required to live at home anymore. She never returned home, according to the article. This prompted the young woman's parents to request an investigation from the school board. Hibbs was investigated for misconduct after the parents alleged to principal John Marlow that she turned their daughter into a lesbian.

The investigation was later dropped, but Hibbs says her 10-year career has been ruined because of the incident. Hibbs, who is straight, said she was being bullied out of her job because of her outspokenness on other subjects.

"Before Deefield, I had an impeccable record," she told the Sun-Sentinel. Now she is on medical leave, dealing with the trauma of the incident.

Hibbs has filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against the school district, Marlow, and the Deerfield Beach High School assistant principal.

Hibbs is also determined to run for a seat on the local school board.

"I reported properly and I was charged with professional misconduct for reporting the abuse," she wrote in a Facebook post Monday. "This was a tactic by my bullying principal."
