For all you DYI'ers... this was pretty easy to do - the drum out of an old washing machine ... a coat of paint - some landscape pavers to set it on - add wood.... (the hardest part was actually finding the non-working washing machine)... :) - but if you like fires and fire pits - this works well...enjoy! :)

The Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in Huainan City in An Hui Province, China. Built in 2007, the main part of the building is designed to look like a grand piano, complete with the lid propped open. This curvaceous, luminous, 10 story office building was designed in the form of the LTL 1000 banknote that dates back to 1926.

They do work pretty good.... until humans came and started egg collection, fisheries bycatch, habitat destruction (even something as simple as leaving porch lights on during nesting/hatch season) and I could go on and on. The Leatherback Turtle is now on the critically endangered list. Very sad....
Thanks for posting the cool pictures as it is a good reminder how we can impact a species, intentionally or not.

This baby blue marlin was one of 7 million eggs released by its mother, and was only a few millimeters long upon hatching.
Throughout its ~27-year-long life in the Atlantic Ocean, blue marlins can grow to be 14 feet long, weighing up to 1985 pounds.
Marlins are frequently tangled in tuna nets and rarely live even after being released due to the physical trauma, leading to them being declared “vulnerable” by the IUCN.

The pistol shrimp is the NOISIEST creature in the ocean.
Colonies of them make a distinct snapping noise that overshadows nearly all other sounds throughout the world's oceans, including the calls of some whales.
They possess an oversized claw which they close shut quickly enough to move water over 60 mph, creating a cavitation bubble in its wake.
This bubble exists for a tiny fraction of a second (between 10 nanoseconds and 300 picoseconds), but it becomes so hot (over 4700°C) that it emits light.

Kittiwat Unarrom has a master's degree in fine arts and creates bruised and battered heads, feet and other internal organs at a bread shop in Thailand.

He started using his skills and made sculptures out of bread. This came naturally to him because his family runs a bakery.
The bread is made out of dough, raisins, cashews and chocolate. He just adds his own touch to the finished product.

These are Mummatus clouds, a fairly new cloud classification that's only been recognized for the last few years.
Their name derives from the Latin word "mamma", meaning udder or breast (for fairly obvious reasons!).

Their formation is still fairly mysterious, with more than ten proposed mechanisms.
They're often associated with severe thunderstorms.

A vertical forest is expected to be completed this year in Milan.
There are two tower apartment complexes which contain a total of 400 residential units.
The facade of the buildings will be covered with 730 trees, 5,000 shrubs, and 11,000 perennial plants.
It is expected to have the same ecological impact as 10,000 square meters of forest.

Aside from fighting smog and producing oxygen, the foliage is expected to provide insulation to the residential units.

Yes, this headstone is real and in the Congressional Cemetery. It belongs to:

"Leonard P. Matlovich (July 6, 1943 – June 22, 1988)[1] was a Vietnam War veteran, race relations instructor, and recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.[2]
Matlovich was the first gay service member to purposely out himself to the military to fight their ban on gays, and perhaps the best-known gay man in America in the 1970s next to Harvey Milk. His fight to stay in the United States Air Force after coming out of the closet became a cause célèbre around which the gay community rallied. His case resulted in articles in newspapers and magazines throughout the country, numerous television interviews, and a television movie on NBC. His photograph appeared on the cover of the September 8, 1975, issue of Time magazine, making him a symbol for thousands of gay and lesbian servicemembers and gay people generally.[3][4][5][6] Matlovich was the first openly gay person to appear on the cover of a U.S. newsmagazine.[7] According to author Randy Shilts, "It marked the first time the young gay movement had made the cover of a major newsweekly. To a movement still struggling for legitimacy, the event was a major turning point." [8] In October 2006, Matlovich was honored by LGBT History Month as a leader in the history of the LGBT community."

On May 3, a relatively weak solar flare erupted from the Sun.
Even this was enough to trigger an absolutely STAGGERING plasma spire -
the blue dot you can see represents the approximate size of the Earth next to yesterdays plasma eruption.
It reached approximately 200,000 kilometers.

If your mother has transitioned from this life then go call someone who is a mother and offer her help, an ear, or just kudos for doing a tough, good job.

To those that have had the unbelievable tragedy of losing a child big hugs and may the happy memories of that little life sustain you through today.


To those of us who are parents, I imagine while you are wondering and fretting if you are a good parent that there is a child (or two, or three, or more) in your life that is already certain that you are!
