The remarkable power of holding hands with someone you love
Studies show that holding hands can reduce pain and buffer stressful experiences. But its impact on brain activity suggests something more profound is going on.

Q: I’m curious why humans hold hands. Is there a biological reason it’s such a common part of relationships across so many cultures?
A: Holding hands exerts striking effects on our emotional state, especially when it’s with a romantic partner: It can help lower blood pressure, reduce pain and buffer stressful experiences. A 2021 experiment (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8443030/) confirmed the soothing effect of holding a spouse’s hand while watching scenes from horror films such as “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” The simple gesture can limit the impact stress has on our autonomic nervous system, which regulates unconscious bodily functions such as pupil dilation. When people feel they are under threat, holding the hands of a loved one calms parts of the brain (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17201784/) responsible for vigilance and emotional response.
But the research also suggests something far more profound about our need for connection.
“If you really understand hand-holding — what it is and how it has its effects — you begin to understand just about every single facet of what it is to be a human being,” said James Coan, a clinical psychologist and director of the Virginia Affective Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Virginia. “It expresses all the things that we are for each other.”
The hand-holding experiments
Coan and his team have conducted several experiments on the effects of holding hands. The first set (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17201784/) involved 16 married women who were placed in an MRI brain scan and confronted with the threat of an electric shock. The brain scans showed that when these women held a stranger’s hand, it lowered the stress of being shocked.
But the effect was even more pronounced when they held their husbands’ hands. Notably, the quality of the relationship mattered too. The benefit of holding hands was strongest among women with the highest scores on marital quality tests. Later studies (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28985422/) showed reduced stress in other kinds of relationships, including people who were dating or were just friends.
According to Coan, the findings suggest that holding hands actually helps the brain offload the work of confronting stress. So when you reach out to hold a loved one’s hand in a difficult time, it’s like you’re sharing the burden with them.
Why do people hold hands?
During the experiments, Coan and his team kept bumping into an odd finding. Emotional regulation had been established by many in the field to be managed by the prefrontal cortex. It’s the part of the brain that helps us control our instincts and see reason — telling you, “Relax, it’s only a movie!” when you’re watching a horror film, Coan explained.
Coan hypothesized that holding the hand of someone close to them would cause an increase in activity in the prefrontal cortex as the participant relaxed and felt more secure. With more activity in the prefrontal cortex, he thought, less emotional activity — like those involved in fear or anxiety — would occur elsewhere in the brain.
But that’s not what happened.
When couples held hands, Coan did observe a decrease in all the emotional regions of the brain as he had expected. However, in experiment after experiment, there was no associated increase (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7738398/) in prefrontal cortex activity — instead, there was a decrease.
What was going on?
At first, Coan couldn’t account for what part of the brain was responsible for the participants’ stress relief when they held hands. It was as if people were getting snacks out of the vending machine without paying any money.
Finally, he arrived at a new conclusion: What if he had gotten the baseline and experimental states backward? Maybe the brain didn’t perceive holding hands as something new he was adding to a baseline of being alone. What if our neuropsychological baseline was feeling connected to someone? Perhaps feeling alone was the deviation all along — one that would require the metabolically expensive activation of our prefrontal cortex to cope.
“To the human brain, the world presents a series of problems to solve,” Coan said. “And it turns out being alone is a problem.”
He called this phenomenon social baseline theory (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4375548/): It’s the idea that the human brain expects access to relationships and interdependence because without them, the world’s problems are mammoth and we need to expend so much more physiological and psychological effort. But when we know we’re not alone — as is conveyed through holding hands — it’s as if we can access snacks freely with no vending machine at all.
The complexities of the human hand
Hands are a key part of how we explore the world from the moment we’re born — and for good reason. Newborn babies are nearsighted (they can’t see beyond a few inches from their faces) and also can’t process colors. But our hands — even before we develop any motor skills — can process sensory information when they brush against the objects around us. Our palms are a tiny fraction of our skin’s total surface area, yet they hold about 15 percent of our tactile nerve fibers (https://journals.physiology.org/doi/full/10.1152/jn.00313.2020). Because of that incredibly high nerve density, our hands can discern between the myriad stimuli the world offers: a warm muffin, a soft puppy’s fur or cold raindrops.
Also, the palms and especially fingertips contain special nerve endings called Meissner corpuscles (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK518980/). These give palms the power to react to the finest of touch even at a depth of less than 10 micrometers — or about the width of a strand of a spider’s web. They allow our hands to process Braille and are the reason we immediately sense if something is slipping so we can tighten our grasp.
We use touch to communicate our feelings as well. A 2009 study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19653781/) observed 124 pairs of strangers: one was blindfolded and the second was asked to convey an emotion to the other simply using touch. Participants were able to recognize — without ever hearing or seeing the other person — emotions such as gratitude, disgust, happiness and fear. In a recent study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36058103/) from the University of London, participants were able to correctly identify another person’s emotion just by looking at their hands without seeing their face.
What I want my patients to know
During the pandemic, when I was caring for hospitalized patients in the days when even shaking hands was unfathomable, many confided in me a deeply felt void from the lack of physical touch with other humans. One morning, I held an elderly woman’s hand in the emergency room as my resident prepared to do an exam, and the woman said, “It feels like you’re the first person I’ve touched in months.” I still think of that encounter and of that visceral hunger for contact many of us didn’t know existed until it was taken away.
Don’t be afraid to offer a hand to someone who is struggling — we’re clearly wired for it.

For the first time since I was seriously hurt back in November of 2016, I booked out my first vacation. My first vacation from work in over 8 years. I’m turning 65 in May and will take time off to get Medicare up and operational for my medical needs, then I’m staying home to jump start my summer by spending every day at the gym to establish a good workout and kick start my way to better health.
My sweetie and I are going to disappear for a bit too. ☺️😁🥰😍❤️❤️❤️❤️

A very rare pair of monumental fahua Buddhist lions on stands
Late Ming Dynasty, 16th/17th century
From Bonham's website:
This pair has survived remarkably well and each assembly is presented imposingly in three parts with the lion resting on a matching two-piece pedestal 90 cm (36 in) high. They announce in many ways their Buddhist association.
The male lion, traditionally positioned on the right as one faces the hall, sits open-mouthed and staring ahead with his left front paw, as is customary, resting playfully on an embroidered brocade ball. The female sits to the left with her mouth nearly shut and, as is also customary, has her right paw clasped protectively around her cub. The ball and cub are strongly embedded in traditional styling, and explanations for their meaning are offered in the folklore of different East Asian countries. However, their origin and true significance are now obscure.
Similarly, the 'one mouth shut and one open' convention is seen often in guardian figure pairs, and explanations are offered throughout Asia for its significance. Many agree that 'mouth open' signifies vocalisation of the first character, 'a', of the Sanskrit alphabet, and 'mouth shut' the last, 'um', and that together they represent the sound 'om' which expresses the 'Absolute or Ultimate Reality' in the Sanskrit mantra. Another interpretation is that the two sounds represent the 'first and last breath' or the beginning and end of life whilst, in some Japanese traditions, a third suggests in a similar vein that the male lion inhales whilst the lioness exhales, symbolising 'life and death'.
More compelling are the astonishing eyes of the lioness. Whilst her right eye stares fixedly ahead, her left eye is swivelled rearwards as if re-directing her gaze towards, or to some point behind, her mate. This strabismus is clearly intended but its meaning is unclear. Moreover, the skilful modelling of the animal's head and facial contours renders this intriguing and unusual feature almost unnoticeable at first sight to the casual frontal observer.
Remarkable also is the tightly coiled 'coiffure' of the lions' manes which refers strongly to the archaic influence of Greco-Buddhist art from Central Asia in the early days of Buddhism in China in the 5th century.

Eating cheese affects your brain the same way narcotics do.
Cheese happens to be especially addictive because of an ingredient called casein, a protein found in all milk products. During digestion, casein releases opiates called casomorphins.
“[Casomorphins] really play with the dopamine receptors and trigger that addictive element,” registered dietitian Cameron Wells told Mic.

Here is another way to understand how casomorphins impact a person’s health: LINK ~~~>>>. https://www.drhagmeyer.com/the-food-opiods-casomorphins-and-gluteomorphins/
Quoting from the linked article above:
“Basically, if milk is cocaine then cheese is crack.”
I found this interesting about casomorphins: they don’t facilitate health in a positive way. Casomorphins in dairy products, especially as it is exponentially largely concentrated in cheese, impacts your health in a myriad of negative ways.
Thanks for your post Gemme about cadomorphins.

In my daily readings across the web, I somehow have come across Roy Disney (Walt’s older brother), as Roy’s way of processing life, which has been cited in numerous literature studies done on mimicry (the unconscious stuff we copy from others we like or are attracted to).
I liked two quotes by Roy Oliver Disney (ROD) and his son Roy E Disney(RED):
“It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are,” (ROD)
“It’s not the magic that makes it work: it’s the way we work that makes it magic,” encapsulates the essence of success. Often, we tend to attribute achievements solely to the element of magic or luck, disregarding the hard work and determination behind them(RED).

Two things that made me smile and laugh out loud yesterday. Driving through town yesterday, there was a bird in a deep puddle beside the road and was splashing like crazy to give herself a bath. I could feel that bird's joy.
Later I was reading comments after a MSNBC article on line. Now I know I shouldn't read comments because often I am saddened to read/see the illness of my fellow citizens. This one commentator referred to DJT by saying "IQ 45" lol. Yep he wants to brand everything with a 45 and I thought that was perfect.

The thing that bothers me the most, as well as deeply concerning, is the cult of followers who follow him over the proverbial cliff. I wish I could articulate what the most important issue to address concerning IQ-forty five, but just reading the updates page over on CNN is enough to scare anyone who lives in the US. If Alvin Bragg gets a jury to convict him of his fraudulent crimes, it would certainly make the “no one is above the law” argument believable. So far, all I see is that person getting special treatment and not being successfully held accountable for their years and fucking years of bad ass behavioral choices. In case anybody forgets, let’s remember how he LIED about COVID-19 and the millions of people who believed his lies and the thousands who died due to his lies.

I was looking out the window today at the birds and squirrels in my yard. The birds were like a box of crayolas with wings. There are blue jays, goldfinch, red headed woodpeckers, starlings, catbirds, morning doves, orioles, cardinals and I saw my first rose breasted grosbeak of the year. The squirrels are out there running around and looking for the peanuts the jays haven't found. What really caught my attention was when I say a squirrel pick up a piece of outer leaf bok choy I had thrown out there and started eating it. ???!!!!! Of course I had to look it up and little did I know that after reading a North American Nature article they actually like and "prefer bok choy, broccoli, arugula, red or green cabbage, chayote, cauliflower, purslane, watercress, and mushrooms." Who knew?! Now I know where all my outer leaves will go and make a squirrel happy to boot.

It is nice to have lots of birds and squirrels and other wildlife around. BUT we got a notice of the lastest law in Ontario. NO feeding any wildlife unless it is little birds and the food must be protected from squirrels. I guess that means racoons too. Skunks can't climb so they are safe. I will be in a position to become a lawbreaker for the first time in my life except a speeding ticket or two. I refuse to stop feeding the fur babies for anyone. I had no idea there was a book published about the T——p effect.
The saddest part of all is that that former president is still collecting from the impoverished American tax base (the collective ‘dime’).
And,,,, if everything that he touches dies (proverbially), then does this mean our country dies too???
I hope not. But it could very well happen due to those who enable and keep perpetuating into pertuity the same big lie they’ve been cultivating for years.
Thankfully, people who care about telling the truth and demonstrating what a good moral compass looks like have shown up to make sure they are not associated with T——p: Like, Geoff Duncan, Lt Gov of Georgia — right? Geoff is the polar opposite of T——p.
Where is Liz Cheney? I don’t agree with her Republican ideology either but you gotta give these particular Republicans kudos for standing up against the rising tide of crime within their own ranks of the GOP.
Same for Democrats who stand tall and don’t accept bribes.
We need to make sure both the HOUSE and the SENATE are occupied and controlled by Democrats. Hakeem Jeffries has been instrumental in leading democrats since the departure of former House Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi.
Thanks for your post today, nhplowboi. Appreciate your take on what is going on in our country.

Well, my friend, I can hardly believe that this tragic situation our country faces can be reduced to something as simple as idiocy. But I totally get the meaning of the movie reference.
I read an Op-Ed by a resident of Berlin over on CNN, this morning. People in Germany see the exact same thing that happened years ago when Hitler used his diabolical charisma to get others to do his bidding. They are scared sick that this will happen again. And they aren’t fooled by T——p’s rhetoric or his law breaking members of congress. Make no mistake: if people let this diabolical madman and his cronies near the levers of political power to overtake America, then big trouble will commence across the world in ways no one can escape.
Can you believe the chaos king’s choices in court this past 20 days???
Thank heavens for New Yorkers who represented courtside and demonstrated how this criminal case is not about lying about having sex with a pornstar. It’s about his insatiable ability to lie lie lie and lie lie lie so he can deny deny deny what we all know to be the unvarnished truth: it’s about Election Interference and destabilizing our country and democracy. It’s “for the people, by the people” ….
May the unvarnished truth prevail and may the entire American electorate show the world that there is no future that includes T——p. May he rest in jail for the rest of his life.
That’s how I feel about that individual. Once American society rejects the orange monster, we will all breathe a bit better. But it won’t be over until all the people in positions of power who fall behind him, in rank and file, are removed from their posts as well.

The Strawberry Moon will shine bright and low this Saturday June 22. Should see it Friday June 21 but not quite as bright. The native people saw this moon as a time to start picking strawberries as they would be at their ripe stage. They would say if you pick one, remove the stem and the strawberry had a heart shaped centre at the top then it would be good luck and a good happy year. It was a time for love and forgiveness. The Ojibwa, the Dakota and Lakota belived in this. (two of the Sioux nation). If you do not believe then just enjoy the taste of this wonderful fruit, a gift from mother nature.

I was watching MSNBC this morning and their guest was Dr. Kevin Roberts, the current President of the Heritage Foundation. What a smug and pompous man who is highly involved in the Project 2025 agenda. I was yelling at my TV before I knew it! I'm at a loss in understanding what is happening to our country. How in hell have these hate filled people found their way to the top of the Republican heap. Never mind I guess I just answered my own question.

Smug and pompous is the GOP trademark, for sure.
Don’t know if other people know this or not, but Sinclair media is owned by right wing Republican forces. Propaganda machines: local newspapers, local tv stations, and interestingly any organizational entity chaired by Republican CEOs.

With seemingly unstoppable momentum during the summer of 1967, on 18 May The Beatles signed a contract to represent the BBC, and Britain, on Our World, the world’s first live television satellite link-up to be seen by approximately 400 million people across five continents.
The Beatles’ appearance was announced four days later, on 22 May. John Lennon wrote the song ‘All You Need Is Love’ especially for the occasion, to the brief given by the BBC: it had to be simple so that viewers around the world would understand it.
"We were big enough to command an audience of that size, and it was for love. It was for love and bloody peace. It was a fabulous time. I even get excited now when I realise that’s what it was for: peace and love, people putting flowers in guns."
Ringo Starr
Anthology
Our World took place on 25 June 1967. Between the announcement and the broadcast date, The Beatles recorded the rhythm track and some basic vocals.

Olympic Fever
Any excitement I had about the Olympics faded fast when I learned that Steven Van de Velde, 29, and his partner, Matthew Immers, secured their spot in the upcoming Games, for two men's beach volleyball.
While Immers didn't do anything criminal as far as I know and I actually feel kind of bad that he's stuck with the guy, Steven Van de Velde flew from Amsterdam to England ten years ago to meet a 12 year girl who he met online and was charged with raping her. He was aware of her age at the time and was sentenced to a 4 year term but only served one year in the Netherlands.
And I quote: The Dutch Olympic Committee has stood by its decision to nominate Van de Velde for the national team, despite the backlash. The organization has maintained that the decision lies with the national volleyball federation, which has opted not to impose further sanctions on him.
"Van de Velde now meets all the qualification requirements for the Olympic Games and is therefore part of the team," the committee said.
First, there are going to be TONS of underage girls there, both competing and as spectators and volunteers and working the event. Second, I don't think a person rightfully convicted of a violent crime should ever be able to participate and/or qualify for an Olympic event...or hold office...or take part in the judicial system...or...so on and so forth. Third, Sha'Carri Richardson, a black female track runner, was disqualified for popping positive for marijuana, a drug that does NOT enhance performance even though she's been killing it. Her Olympic dreams are OVER, for taking something because her mother died and she was hurting and stressed out, not because she violated another human being.
I hope the numbers for the men's volleyball segments tank. I'll watch Simone Biles because...duh, she's Simon Biles...but that's it at this point.

Reports I saw said that her campaign raised more than $231 million in less than 48 hours, smashing Trump's previous record. Now, he wants to get his money back for the ads bashing Biden since his opponent has changed. *scoffs*
"We're not going back!"
Biden put aside his ego and is supporting a candidate that can win the election and I am living for it. Tickled pink, even. I love that the Zoom call for black women filled all 1000 allotted slots immediately and Zoom had to open it up completely. More than 44,000 black women came together to rally and support Kamala for more than 4 hours on that call.
For the first time in a long time, I am feeling something resembling hope for the future.
Also, I had a great interview today and my Prime goodies showed up as well.

He was left here with "the pack" as a kindness to him when she moved to RI two years ago. He is now fairly deaf and blind and forgets to use the outdoor facilities when he is outside. Going through a New England winter was just to much to expect of him. I think it is harder when you know there is a date than when it is just an organic happening. I bought him some "Homestyle Creations" at Walmart today for his final meals. He's lived a good life up here on the farm and I am thankful he was here. Godspeed old man! THE FATHER BOUGHT THE FUCKING GUN AS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT AFTER THE VISIT FROM THE FBI!!! This should be the moment that everyone can acknowledge the 2A, both gun rights activists and gun violence prevention activists, but also come to the realization that gun rights should never get in the way of preventing gun violence. This statement is not anti-gun, it is anti-gun violence. This should be a moment of common ground. Can we all agree that is not rational and this was preventable? Can we all agree that this father should face criminal charges? Can we all agree that a red flag law was warranted? Because this is Georgia, there was no red flag law. I hope they find a way to hold the father to account. He should rot in prison. My fight to reduce gun violence is because I truly believe that we can and must do more to stop these instances of gun violence and that we can do so in a way that is not an affront to gun owners or the 2A. IF YOU AGREE WITH ME, ONLY VOTE FOR CANDIDATES WHO WANT TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE. I WILL BE VOTING FOR Kamala Harris AND Tim Walz AND DOWN BALLOT FOR A CONGRESS THAT WILL HELP THEM DO SOMETHING TO STOP THE NEXT PREDICTABLE AND PREVENTABLE ACT OF GUN VIOLENCE LIKE THIS.
The father of the Apalachee High School shooting suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting that left four people dead, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Colin Gray, 54, has been charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, the GBI said Thursday.
His son, Colt Gray, a 14-year-old student, is accused of killing two students and two teachers with an AR-style rifle in the Wednesday shooting. Seven other people – six students and a teacher – were injured by being shot, and two other students suffered other injuries, authorities say.
The teen has been charged with four counts of felony murder, according to charging documents obtained by CNN. He is expected to be tried as an adult, the GBI and Barrow County sheriff have said.
The charges against Colin Gray stem from him “knowingly allowing” his son to have a weapon, GBI Director Chris Hosey said at a news conference Thursday.
These ammosexuals in this country would not care if the entire school was killed as long as their precious widdle 2A is safe.
Shay D. Vance said shooting at school are just a fact of life. He says this standing on a podium surrounded by bullet-proof glass.

across the nation are receiving unsettling texts.
“It’s not fair, you women are taking over the world now.”
That was one of the texts Shanta Trivedi, an assistant law professor at the University of Baltimore, told Inside Higher Ed she received from an unknown number on Jan. 30. More texts arrived the same day, she said, including, “Law school isn’t fair for us men anymore. The women always outperform us now.”
She didn’t respond. “I was terrified, because it sounded like a student who was upset,” Trivedi said. “I also was teaching at night and my class happened to be all female, and I just felt very unnerved by the whole thing.”
She soon learned she wasn’t the only female law professor at her university who had received one of these texts: A handful of others had all gotten them the same day or the next and reported them to an administrator. And she learned from another female law professor on social media that the University of Baltimore wasn’t the only institution affected—nor was the phenomenon confined to the East Coast.
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/diversity-equity/2024/09/17/female-law-faculty-students-are-getting-unsettling
Here we go! The texter wrote It's not fair! in the same text as women are outperforming us! What stage 4 stupidity. White men are so scared of strong, able and intelligent women. I am so pleased women are much wiser because their physical strength to intimidate, harass and abuse us just will not work. We can think circles around these simpletons.

Isn’t there some sort of law about inciting civil unrest?
If it was not DJT inciting civil unrest they would be jailed ASAP, right?
DJT is not a ‘Teflon Don’ mob boss. He’s just an old white man throwing a hissy fit because he doesn’t make a profit off of every single American. That is what he and his family are all about: they have an addiction to outspending what they legitimately earn. Why earn your way through life when you can con more money out of people? Isn’t that his modus operandi?
Here is Andrea Mitchell interviewing the mayor of Springfield Ohio who sets the record straight about DJT’s baseless racist lies.

Notice how the comet is traveling in what looks like a westward position, with the tail blazing in front of it; rather than traveling eastward with the comet’s tail behind it??? Mysterious (indeed).

AMEN !! Not only do a vast host of elected GOP Officials make me physically ill, but so does the Trump appointed members of the Supreme Court and other members of the crazy tone deaf Trump family and certain offspring.
We already have the cancer of Trumpism in the body of GOP officials but the Supreme Court is on standby to enact Amerikan Fascism and has already given American’s a “taste” of their brand of mind control.
Don’t drink the poison from the chalice of the GOP.

So, some poor lady has been feeding little raccoons in her back yard for years and guess what happened on October 3rd???
100 raccoons showed up in her back yard demanding food and causing a bit of trouble. So she called for help. The local sheriff showed up and to help this lady learn a hard lesson to never leave kibble out to feed wildlife, the sheriff will rehome all the raccoons at $500/per raccoon, which translates to over $50k dollar fine.
I am learning my lesson from her: never feed wildlife or you might end up in a pickle just like her (lol, or not)

Living Microbes Found in 2B-Year-Old Rock
According to researchers from the University of Tokyo, living microbes have been discovered within a 2-billion-year-old rock sample from South Africa's Bushveld Igneous Complex, marking the oldest known example of microbial life found in ancient rock and potentially revolutionizing our understanding of early life on Earth and beyond.
The groundbreaking discovery took place in the Bushveld Igneous Complex (BIC), a massive geological formation in northeastern South Africa covering an area of approximately 66,000 square kilometers - roughly the size of Ireland12. This rocky intrusion, formed by slowly cooling magma beneath the Earth's surface, is renowned for its rich ore deposits, including about 70% of the world's mined platinum31. Researchers retrieved a 30-centimeter-long rock core sample from about 15 meters belowground, which revealed living microbial cells densely packed into cracks within the rock14. The BIC's stable environment, largely unchanged over billions of years, provided an ideal refuge for these ancient microorganisms to persist in igneous rocks over geological time scales.
The discovery of living microbes in 2-billion-year-old rock has profound implications for our understanding of early life on Earth. By studying the DNA and genomes of these ancient organisms, scientists may gain unprecedented insights into the evolution of primitive life forms12. These microbes, which have survived in a stable environment for an extraordinarily long time, offer a unique opportunity to observe life that has scarcely evolved over geological timescales3. This finding pushes back the known boundaries of life's persistence in extreme environments, potentially rewriting our understanding of how life can adapt and survive in seemingly inhospitable conditions over billions of years.

I don’t think you’re a billion years off (you are so danged funny, lol).
I think Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park is a great counter-narrative to the ongoing dilemma we see in national politics.
Tiny facts I know about this book: it took 8 years to write this book and 5 years of pre-publishing chit chat before it went to print.
To me, Jurassic Park is a modern day dystopian narrative about good vs evil.

A grand slam is a home run that scores four runs, the most possible in one play. A walk-off occurs when the home team scores the winning run in the bottom of the final inning. The term "walk-off" comes from the fact that both teams walk off the field after the winning run is scored.
History
Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history on October 25, 2024, in Game 1 against the New York Yankees. Freeman's 423-foot home run gave the Dodgers a 6-3 victory and a 1-0 lead in the World Series.
Rarity
Walk-off grand slams in the postseason are rare, with only two in MLB history.

How come it seems to me that these spineless politicians have so many things in their closets and trump is blackmailing them? I can not figure out how so many sane politicians started taking the wrong pill.
Why do they continually vote against their best interests? If there is a 20 or 30% tariff placed on goods coming in, the price is going to go up? No company withstands pricing hikes, it is always forwarded to the customer! They want to eliminate the EPA, the FDA, and so much more (that is for the collective good!) Ear-worm boy is suggesting we remove fluoride in the water! WTF! More kids will get cavities and other ailments. These people do not have the best interest of us. They care only for themselves, let's not forget that. 6 months to a year, they will have buyers remorse because guess what? They have no one else to blame but themselves. Let's just hope the good people don't suffer too much.

OMG I am so concerned about all the drone sightings! There is something going on, and I’m worried about it. Are they aliens? Are they from a foreign country? Is it Elon Musk and the orange fellow? Is it our own government?
Oh my God when I was a young child I used to have horrible fears about UFOs. I would read books about strange mysteries and often the stories were about UFOs. And then it didn’t help that my aunt would tell me stories about all the UFO she had seen in the quarries. And of course, the quarry is right behind my house!

Anyways...last night I was watching Home Alone Two, actually dozing off and on, lol. The commercials I saw were sooo Kid oriented for Christmas. Made me remember watching those commercials and yelling...Mom, Mom, I want that!!
Guess I'm used to watching other stations with perfume, Macy's and Capitol one commercials. Lol

MHrC6VlQEaY?si=MhL2GRyXU1XoAGEo"Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon is a tender song written for his son, Sean, expressing his love and delight in watching him grow, and includes the famous quote "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans".
The lyrics reflect a father's gentle reassurance, encouragement to pray, and a positive outlook on life.
The song incorporates the famous Allen Saunders quote, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans," which adds a layer of philosophical reflection to the song.

I do a daily exercise of looking for types of facts and today’s fact finding mission seemed shady (lol).
These are weird, yet interesting facts I found today:
1) Venus is the only planet to spin clockwise.
2) The Eiffel Tower was originally made for Barcelona.
3) The quickest commercial flight is in Scotland.
4) Cleopatra was born in Egypt but was of Macedonian descent.
5) The International Space Station orbits the earth in 90 minutes.
I’d hang a big question mark on that particular assertion because most all of us know that being a passenger on an airplane can spiral upwards of over 8 hrs in flight mode before stopping to drop off passengers or to refuel the airplane. Unless this particular fact about the ISS discloses its longitude and latitude coordinates and other factual info explaining how ISS orbits the earth in 90 minutes is logically explained, then I rest my case in Spock-like fashion. :eyebat:

The International Space Station (ISS) orbits the earth every 90 minutes, or approximately 16 times a day. It travels at approximately 17,500 mph. It's average altitude is 260 miles above Earth's surface, in low Earth orbit. This velocity balances the Earth's gravitational pull with centrifugal force, which keeps the ISS from falling back to Earth or flying off into space.
"These values are approximate due to factors like atmospheric drag and periodic reboosts to maintain altitude."

For folks like me that have a difficult time getting in and out of stores, drive through pharmacies are a necessity. Our new Publix has a pharmacy drive through, but none of the other Publixes in our area do. I don't like going to the new Publix because it's out of the way and it's at a crazy, difficult intersection. Most of the time, the boy picks them up for me, anyway.
But last week I had to pick up a couple of prescriptions myself. When I was in the Publix, I noticed a sign; they will now BRING YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS OUT TO YOUR CAR. All you have to do is use their app and pay before you pick it up. This is great news!

My niece lives in a small city in Georgia and has been looking for a job. Many of her friends have also been looking. She was applying to lots of jobs online, and almost immediately after applying, she would receive a "thanks, but no thanks" email.
She decided online was not working out, so she took a stack of resumes and began going around town, applying in person. This did not pay off either, even in an interview. Eventually, she applied at a Longhorn Steakhouse, a business in which she has a lot of experience. The manager told her to "go home and don't leave".
Upon further discussion with the manager, he admitted to her that the reason all those businesses had posted job ads but nobody was hiring was because "the government pays businesses to post help wanted ads". Apparently, the businesses receive checks for this. The supposed purpose is for the government to be able to claim that "lots of jobs are available but nobody wants them", so the unemployment situation is "fine".
I have to wonder how long this has been going on. I'll bet I know, but I could be wrong. Have any of you ever heard of this happening?
