Puerto Rican Medical Disorder Terminology:

Monga:
Mysterious body temperature, not high enough to be considered fever, but serious enough to miss school and work. Illness is unknown by the American Medical Association (AMA) and only understood by doctors of Puerto Rican origin, Puerto Rican Teachers tend to be immune and see right through it, unless they're underpaid.

Patatú:
Falling attack of obscure origin that can strike at any time. Could be serious enough to require hospitalization, yet is undetected by medical technology. Victims tend to be males and females over the age of 50 years, or Teenage girls after a recent bad break-up.

Sereno:
Occurs when someone steps outdoors suddenly at night and is sprinkled by a mysterious substance produced by the night air. There are no physical symptoms and it can only be detected by the Puerto Rican elderly. The effect of having this disease is unknown. Children younger than the Older person demanding it shall not be taken out at night without proper clothing (read: wrapped up like a suffocating coccoon) or risk of contamination is certain.

Chichón:
Elevated cranial protrusion usually caused by the fall after a patatú. Can also be caused by the sudden or unexpected encounter with a cocotazo.

Caquita:
Also known as "churra" or " a chorro". This occurs after eating a lot of "arroz chino", "mofongo", and drinking "malta" at the same time. Your bum feels on fire from so many trips to the bathroom.

I cancelled a trip with my mom a few months ago and accepted a few really good paying gigs and she won't let me forget it. Like many other people, I'm budgeting my ass off. The thought of turning down work, especially being a freelancer with this economy, makes me cringe.

I no longer have an assistant and this means working longer hours and feeling even more exhausted. This makes my free time even more important. I have a house and three dogs to care for. I think my mom has forgotten what it feels like to juggle work and responsibilities at home when time is an issue.

She has the free time to talk on the phone all day, a cleaning lady that cooks, a yard guy that also keeps her car clean, travels wherever she wants, stay in bed all day if she chooses, etc....

Why she doesn't understand that I no longer have the time or the psyche fortitude to stay in touch everyday is beyond me.:praying:

I am exceptionally skilled at getting in peoples way. If I find myself walking down a sidewalk, through a hallway, or across a wide-open field and another person is walking directly towards me, it’s as if we suddenly become confined in a tiny, invisible space. As we go to step out of each other’s way I will, and without fail, always step to the same side that they do leaving us awkwardly face to face again. This of course leads to the frustrating process of moving left and right together trying to step around the other person repeatedly muttering things like, “Excuse me” and “Oh, I’m sorry.” Eventually both parties step out of the way to let the other one pass, and then both attempt to take the others offer leading us right back into the beginning nose-to-nose position. It’s a vicious circle that I find myself repeating numerous times a week. I don’t even try to avoid the situation anymore, as I spot the other person walking towards me in the distance, I breathe a heavy sigh and prepare to dance.

K, here's the thing..I have 3 strands of garland that light up (outdoor lights). I bought them last year. Well, one of them has blown every light..I have no idea why. So I go back to the store that I bought them from to buy replacement bulbs. I replace every bulb (not an easy task since you have to change the base of the bulb now)...still not working. So I buy a new strand of garland to replace the one that blew out. It doesn't match last years garland so I go back to the store to see if I can find a matching one. No such luck.
So I come home tonight and a second one has blown! So now I either have to replace all three strands of garland or just not put the lights on at night (but it looks so pretty with the lights on!)
Why do they have to change everything every year?! I think it's just to f**k us up!

About six weeks ago, we found a kitten on our driveway nearly starved to death. She was so sick and weak she couldn't walk.

Food and water, expensive vet visits, and daily medications have made her much healthier. In addition, we found out she isn't a kitten after all. She is a very petite 10 year old.

The problem (besides the fact we didn't need or want another cat)? She came into heat on Christmas eve.

I will be making Velcro a spay appointment as soon as the clinic opens today but in the meantime what do I do about her discomfort? Any advice is appreciated.

So I bought an Oster blender at work the other night, and it is also a portable 20 oz. cup with a screw-on top. All I can say is I LOVE IT ♥ I have had three drinks today - this morning was a half banana, a cup of pineapple, a cup of raspberries, a cup of milk and a tbsp of sugar. Second was milk, with some coffee and vanilla chai powder and chocolate syrup. Then I made one with oj, a banana and a cup of pineapple. Decided I needed to eat some of our fruit salad from last week (apples, pineapple, grapes, watermelon, peaches and pears) so I put it all in the cup with a dash of milk - awesome! Totally worth the $23.99. Clean up is just rinsing a blade!

Thinking this will help my losing weight all the better, if I don't mind buying fruit constantly ;)

Going with Bard to hys physical therapy appointment tomorrow and working out on the machines - something I haven't done in a few years :| Secretly looking forward to it though :)
