[my 'new' camera]

11 Reasons To Shoot Film

1. Film is cool. Seriously. The scientific process of capturing an image on film, developing and then printing it on paper is one of the most awesome things you can ever see. It’s like magic.

2. Film produces a tangible result. In the modern world, technology has allowed us to do everything digitally… in fact I haven’t seen what my resume actually looks like on printed paper in over 5 years. With digital photographs, you never have one tangible original, from which you can make infinite copies…

3. Photographic paper prints have a longer archival life. Say what you want, but even my most expensive fancy-pants digital prints still get yellowing on the corners after several years… which is why many professional labs still use cibachrome printing even for digital.

4. Film cameras are badass. They are not the light-weight, silent wimpy cameras of today. You can use a quality film camera to take great photographs or defend your life if necessary.

5. Most Photoshop effects applied to digital photos are designed to mimic effects achieved through film. Why not just do it that way in the first place?

6. Using film means that when you take a photograph, a chemical reaction absorbs the moment on a light-sensitized surface. That is somehow more powerful than a computer chip’s interpretation of an image.

7. Learning how to shoot film helps you understand light and shadow, which can also improve your digital photos.

8. Limited exposures means you have to actually think about your shot. Need I say more?

9. Unless you have a $30,000 digital camera, shooting film will always give you a higher resolution if scanned correctly. A 35mm negative has the equivalent of approximately 25.1 megapixels 175 Megapixels (http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/film-resolution.htm), so imagine a 6x9 negative. We’re talking murals in crisp detail.

10. Black and white. Yes. Removing color from a digital photograph is not the same as shooting in black and white film and it never, ever will be. Ever. The art of black and white film alone is reason enough to keep manufacturing film forever.

11. The darkroom is zen. It has soothing red lights, relaxing running water and the soft click of your timer. Take a deep breath and smell the stop bath. Yum.

Totally WANT!!!! Something I say often, is that I feel like humans take, take, and take from the earth, never giving anything back to it, and most humans don't even give there body back to the earth when they die. I want to nourish the earth that has given me such a beautiful life (Hopefully, the cremation process removes any toxins, meds, etc...that the earth doesn't need). This is an AWESOME creation!

I think I know some people who are on this already. At work, we refer to them as bobbleheads (absentmindedly nodding in agreement with everything leadership says), and sheep (part of the flock). They also tend to vote against their own best interests, drive gas guzzling behemoths, and insist on monthly potlucks.

I think I proudly suffer from most of the conditions described in this video, but I do bathe every day. I'm just sayin'....

“So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me... everyday.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

___________IN looking for some quotes today - (yeah- romantic ones) - I came across a few from the Notebook - (and) I mean who hasn't see that one - a classic romantic movie for sure - just as Nicholas Sparks is known for penning some of the most romantic lines ever - and I think (wow) - how his wife must inspire him...I am sure he would be a good writer on his own - but her inspiration is what makes him a (great) writer -

The same with all us who have love in our life (male or female) ... we are (good) - but it is the inspiration of their love within us that makes us (better) - and that's the way it should be (or let me say - that is the way "i" think and feel).

Relationships even the most solid and loving of relationships are work - you have to work at it everyday - as the above quote states 'it is going to be hard - but I want to work at it - because I want you - all of you - everyday of my life' ...I mean wow. -AND as you know the story characters did 'work and did love' and it was extraordinarily so - but so too can a love of your own...be "extraordinary" - there is no "magic secret" some have that others don't...it takes work (but) - not work in the sense of "oh gosh - I 'have' to do this thing - I prefer to look at the word work as rather "care" - it takes "care - tending to - perhaps the word I am looking for is vigilance" - a sustaining - I am so in love with you (and) love you more than anything kind of relationship takes vigilance - on both parts - but and this is where (I think) people miss it - it's a "happy" vigilance a "happy" work - you should hit the ground with both feet every morning - happy and thrilled and joyous within yourself to know that you have the rare opportunity to be "vigilant" in your thoughts and deeds for your partner - to honor them in every way possible - in thought and deed - with heart - mind - body and soul ... this is not a "hard work" - but a "happy work" - or I have found it to be so with myself (and) I can only speak for myself ... but being vigilant - being prayerful - being steadfast and diligent in thought and deed and communication is a "happy" work - (and) if you don't think of it as "happy work" that you just "don't have time" for that - or that the "happy" work seems to be more of a "have to" than a "i want to" ... well..you should be asking yourself why... because (for me) - she deserves nothing less than my complete vigilance and care and respect and responsibility and work toward her - toward our relationship...why in the world would I want to give "less" to the person I say I love - every thought - every deed - every word - every action - should be about honoring them - and your relationship ... to do that "work" - that "happy work" - shows them indeed - that you really do want them "every day" "all of them" - and shows them the "action" behind the words - that - is what makes an incredible love - and sustains it - that - and communication - and for me (prayer)...

I don't put that on anyone - when I write my rambling thoughts - they are my own - what works for (me) - what (i) think -

I do have an incredible love and I do find inspiration for the love that resides in my heart from her - and I do want to honor that and yes (do the work) that keeps that alive and vibrant and oh, so special.

As always - just my two cents worth... :)

Rocky Balboa: Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!

This is a piece of the Esquel meteorite, a meteorite found in Chubut, Argentina in 1951 as a single mass weighing more than 700 kilograms.
It is a pallasite meteorite, and that is why it contains such strange shapes and patterns.
Pallasites are translucent, olivine crystals embedded in an iron-nickel matrix.

The tiny leaves are just coming out on the trees.
The air is coolish, I have on a big ole elderly sweat shirt
There are crickets chirping
Earlier today I got a giant katydid to walk on my hand so I could look at it up close
The train is rumbling by up the street, blowing its horn
The big rectangular hypertufa pot has a few straggler purple alyssum blooming
The Moon flower is getting leaves again (I didn’t think it would come back)
I love that plant, the flowers are huge and feel like soft leather

Building good cholestoral and getting rid of bad cholestoral....

1. The grain issue.

Most cholesterol-lowering guides will recommend that you switch refined carbohydrates to

whole-grain carbohydrates (such as whole-wheat pasta and whole-grain bread). If you’ve been

living on a diet of starchy carbohydrates, this switch will help lower your cholesterol. But

to really lower your cholesterol – and reduce inflammation, which is just as significant to

heart health and more significant for overall health – eliminate grains entirely. Yes – you

read that correctly. Here’s why you need to banish even complex grain carbohydrates from

your diet.

2. Eat fruit instead of guzzling juice.

If you are going to eat something sweet, first make sure it’s fruit instead of desserts and

candies. But choose fruit, not fruit juice. The benefit of fruit comes from the fiber, so if

you drink juice, you’re losing that wonderful benefit and essentially drinking sugar water.

3. Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables daily, and work up to 9.

Good ones are colorful bell peppers, chili peppers, and broccoli.

4. Raise your good cholesterol!

We tend to focus on the negative, but it’s equally important to raise your good cholesterol.

Do this with a daily serving of essential fatty acids from avocados, nuts, olive oil, nut

oils, and nut butters.

5. Take advantage of every opportunity for Omega-3′s.

Switch from regular eggs to DHA-enhanced eggs. They’re all over the place and relatively

inexpensive.

6. Fish: the multi-tasker.

Eat wild, fatty, cold-water fish and consider a fish oil supplement. (Best bets: wild,

Alaskan salmon, wild mackerel, Nordic sardines.) Fish is the richest source of Omega-3 fatty

acids, so aim for two or three portions a week. Make sure you choose wild, cold-water fish

to reduce exposure to chemicals like mercury.

7. Garlic.

Garlic is wonderful for your cardiovascular system and as part of the allium family of

plants it’s a natural anti-inflammatory. Other great foods that reduce inflammation: ginger,

curry, and chili peppers.

8. Onions ‘n things.

Whether it’s scallions, leeks, chives, white onions, red onions, or shallots, these

flavorful bulbs are terrific for quelling inflammation and healing your arteries. Onions

also contain high levels of quercetin, an important flavonoid that reduces cholesterol. Try

to eat some every day.

In general, focus on eating only fresh, whole, unprocessed foods: meats, fish, eggs,

vegetables, legumes, fruits, and nuts.

Build good cholesterol by doing what is listed below

The two types of fats that good cholesterol foods contain are polyunsaturated and mono

unsaturated fats. Both of them are mainly found in plant products. Monounsaturated fats can

be found in good cholesterol foods like peanut, olive, and canola oils. Polyunsaturated fats

are mainly derived from sunflower, corn, soybean, and fish oils. Another thing that will

increase your HDL to LDL ratio is Omega-3 fatty acids. These can be found in a lot of

popular fish, such as salmon and tuna. Even if you eat just a couple of servings of this

fish per week, it will give you positive results in terms of decreasing your bad

cholesterol. More good cholesterol foods to indulge in are soybean products, fish oil, and

leafy greens.

For Kobi :)
(Copy and pasted from The Earth Story site)

CLOUD SEEDING

No, this post is not about ‘chemtrails’. Cloudseeding is a real technique, and is used to induce rain or snow in clouds. This is usually achieved by dropping particular particles into clouds that contain supercooled water, to try to cause the clouds to dissipate, modify their structure or alter the intensity of phenomena like wind speed or hail. Cloud seeding can be done by ground generators, plane, or rocket.

Natural rainfall occurs when supercooled cold water interacts with particles of dust salt or sand and forms ice crystals. These ice crystals then form a nucleus; more water droplets can then attach themselves to this nucleus and increase the size of the droplet (in colder air these droplets are snowflakes). When this droplet or snow flake reaches a critical size it falls as snow or rain.

The idea of cloudseeding started in 1946, when Dr. Vincent J. Schaefer (who was working at the General Electric Laboratory in New York), was researching how to create artificial clouds in a chilled chamber. Schaefer added dry ice to one experiment, to cool the chamber further. The water vapour in the chamber formed a cloud around this dry ice; the ice crystals in the dry ice had created a nucleus around which droplets of water could now form. This process is known as the cold rain process.

Cloud seeding increases the number of the nuclei available so to take greater advantage of the moisture in the cloud, forming raindrops that would not normally have formed.

The warm rain process involves clouds in tropical regions that never reach freezing point. In these cases, raindrops form around a hygroscopic nucleus, which is a particle like salt or dust that attracts water. Small droplets collide and amalgamate until they form a droplet large enough to fall. Another type of cloudseeding, dynamic cloud seeding, aims to boost vertical air currents; this encourages more water to pass through the clouds, which in turn leads to more rain.

To encourage the warm rain process, calcium chloride is commonly used to provide the nucleus for raindrop formation. For the cold rain process, silver-iodide (introduced either via the air or the ground) can be used as a nuclei; its structure is very similar to ice crystals. Dry ice can be introduced from the air (at -80°C) into clouds; this lowers the air temperature so that some of the supercooled water droplets can be converted into ice crystals.

Common salt or fine water droplets can also be used to encourage coalescence. Most of the methods that are used to limit the development of hail use cloud seeding that employs ice nucleants, or use silver oxide. Hail damage can in theory be reduced by 25% by using cloud seeding; there have been no quantifiable results demonstrating this however.

CSIRO conducted cloudseeding trials in Australia between 1947 and the early 1960s. Only the trial conducted in the Snowy Mountains during the late 1950’s and the early 1960’s produced any statistically significant rainfall increases. The Queensland government of Australia announced in December 2006 that $7.6 million in funding for "warm cloud" seeding research.

Clouds were seeded during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing using rockets, to guarantee there would be no rain during the opening and closing ceremonies. In the United States, cloud seeding is used to increase rainfall in areas experiencing drought, to reduce the size of hailstones that form in thunderstorms, and also to reduce the amount of fog in and around airports. It is also sometimes used by ski resorts to induce snowfall. After the Chernobyl disaster, Soviet military pilots seeded clouds over the Belorussian SSR to remove radioactive particles from clouds heading toward Moscow. Cloud seeding is used on a national scale in Mali and Niger.

Diagrams explaining cloud seeding: http://bit.ly/Wcb3ap; http://bit.ly/ZsiszE

The image shows a proposed cloud-seeding ship with Flettner rotors that spin about their vertical axis and act as powerful computer-controlled sails. Seawater sprays from the tops of the rotors to seed clouds. According to theory and computer models, seeding marine stratocumulus clouds by spraying them with an ultrafine saltwater mist from ships could significantly enhance cloud droplet number concentration. The clouds, containing more particles, would cast enough sunlight back into space to at least partially offset the warming effects of CO2 from burning fossil fuels (http://bit.ly/VFV8ia).

Shhhh! She is travelling between worlds right now. You can see her holding the tension of not knowing ~ she is simply breathing into her unanswered questions. Sometimes she drinks her coffee with quaking hands, not knowing where her relationship or her bank account is going.

But this time, she is holding on to the tension of not knowing, and is not willing to hit the panic button. She is unlearning thousands of years of conditioning. She is not being split between the opposing forces of fight and flight.

She is neither naïve nor ignorant. She is a frontier woman, paving new roads & making new choices.

She is willing to making a new transcendent possibility emerge. You may see her now ~ standing at thresholds, or at crossroads ~ breathing into her body ~ intently listening for inner signals. She's learning new navigation skills as she arrives at a most magical moment of her life.

Billboard converts desert air into drinking water (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/billboard-air-water-peru-lima-142159082.html)

An advertising agency has created what it's calling the world's first billboard that converts air into drinking water.

The billboard—a collaboration between agency Mayo DraftFCB and Peru's University of Engineering and Technology—was placed in Peru's rain-starved desert capital, Lima.

Lima gets less than an inch of rain per year on average, but since the city's humidity hovers around 98 percent, generators attached to the structure are able to capture atmospheric moisture, filter it and produce potable water.
The harvested water is then stored in 20-liter tanks and can be retrieved from taps at the base of the billboard.

"Agua aqui," a neon display near the base reads.

According to the university, the billboard produced 9,450 liters of drinking water in three months—enough to sustain hundreds of Peruvian families per month.

Watch a short video explaining the project below:

BERLIN (Reuters) - Secretary of State John Kerry offered a defense of freedom of speech, religion and thought in the United States on Tuesday telling German students that in America "you have a right to be stupid if you want to be."

"As a country, as a society, we live and breathe the idea of religious freedom and religious tolerance, whatever the religion, and political freedom and political tolerance, whatever the point of view," Kerry told the students in Berlin, the second stop on his inaugural trip as secretary of state.

"People have sometimes wondered about why our Supreme Court allows one group or another to march in a parade even though it's the most provocative thing in the world and they carry signs that are an insult to one group or another," he added.

"The reason is, that's freedom, freedom of speech. In America you have a right to be stupid - if you want to be," he said, prompting laughter. "And you have a right to be disconnected to somebody else if you want to be.

"And we tolerate it. We somehow make it through that. Now, I think that's a virtue. I think that's something worth fighting for," he added. "The important thing is to have the tolerance to say, you know, you can have a different point of view."

Out of curiosity, where might I acquire such a parasite? I have a mother and know one or two politicians and several 'religious' leaders that would have markedly improved personalities if aforementioned tongues were replaced.

this image of Jupiter and the red giants Betelgeuse and Aldebaran setting to the west of the island of Sanna, Træna, Norway.
Sanna is Norway’s oldest fishing village; it has a 9000 year old hunting station and mass graves that date back to the Black Death.
The island also has around 20 overhanging rocks and caves.
