For years I had no idea what all of these different programs were about but now it all makes sense. Sort of. Sharing in case anyone else could use the info.
What is the difference between a HUD subsidized, tax credit and market rate apartment?
HUD subsidized: The rent is based on income and the remaining portion is paid by the local Housing Authority or HUD. A resident pays 30% of their monthly income for rent. Each resident in a subsidized unit must be re-certified annually to determine continued eligibility for the program. If a residents income changes, they are required to let HUD know so they can adjust the rent amount.
Tax Credit: If income eligible, rent is a fixed-rate rent which differs based on site and size of unit, but is lower than rent at market rate apartments. Rent for the low-income tax credit program apartments is not based on the resident's income and does not change if the resident's income changes. All households are re-certified annually to verify continued eligibility. Income limits are listed in description of available apartments. Projected rent and utility payments must be under 50% of household gross annual income to be considered affordable.
Market Rate: These apartments are the same as renting an apartment through a private landlord. The rents at market rate units are fixed-rate but may differ based on site and size. There are no income limits to rent these units. Income and assets are not verified annually. If you are a current section 8 housing choice voucher holder, you may use your voucher at a Tax Credit or Market Rate apartment.

A little while ago, I rescued the cutest little frog from a snake trap. His little legs were all tangled up in the birdnetting mesh. I ended up having to get more tools other than scissors and drag up a chair so I could put him in my lap. It was tedious, had to be extremely cautious not to cut him. He is fine now. I wish everyone could have seen how quickly he hopped away after I relocated him a safe distance from any traps. Funny little guy! :)
Sometimes it is little things we all do that can make a huge difference to something or someone else.

I came across THE best programmer joke I've ever encountered in a YouTube comment the other day:
Why do programmers confuse Halloween and Christmas?
Because Oct31 = Dec25
(For non-programmers: the joke concerns modulo arthimetic. In number base 8, 31 = 3 times 8 + 1 which is what in decimal is 25. It used to be quiet common for programmers to have to deal with base 8 and base 16 as well as "normal" decimal numbers in base 10))

I've known for many years that there are about one hundred thousand million (or a hundred billion, if you prefer) stars in our galaxy. That's a lot of very big things in an absolutely huginormous volume. I've just learnt that our bodies contain about ten times as many cells as there are stars in our galaxy.
Wow.

HE TRICKED YOKO ONO
Always up for a prank, some consider Dalí a bit of a con man. Close friend and muse Amanda Lear recalls how he once duped Yoko Ono, selling her a blade of grass for $10,000. Apparently, Ono had asked Dalí to sell him a strand of hair from his infamous mustache. Not one to turn down a check, he got creative.
“Dali thought that Yoko Ono was a witch and might use it in a spell. He didn’t want to send her a personal item, much less one of his hairs,” Lear explained. “So he sent me to the garden to find a dry blade of grass, and sent it off in a nice presentation box. Ono paid 10,000 dollars for it. It amused him to rip people off.”

Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, known as Gala, was ten years older than Dalí and married to Surrealist poet Paul Éluard when she first met him in 1929. A love affair quickly developed, with Gala eventually divorcing Éluard—though they remained close. The couple married in a civil ceremony in 1934, despite Dalí’s family’s unease with him marrying an older Russian divorcee. She had a pivotal role in the artist’s career, becoming his business manager and muse.
By the 1950s, Gala was publicly engaged in extramarital affairs, though it’s said that Dalí encouraged this. In 1969, when Dalí purchased her a Catalan castle in Púbol, it was specified that he could visit her there only if invited in writing. Throughout their lives, there’s no doubt they shared an intense and cerebral love. He wrote, “I would polish Gala to make her shine, make her the happiest possible, caring for her more than myself, because without her, it would all end.”

This took place during Chile’s curfew last month.
From YouTube.com
This is the chilling moment soprano Ayleen Jovita Romero defies the silence curfew, imposed under martial law by the government of Sebastián Piñera in Chile and sings the song “El derecho de vivir en paz”, (The right to live in peace) by Victor Jara.
Such is the silence because of the martial law, that her voice echoes through the buildings, while people from their windows and balconies are “holding their breath” to the words of her song, until the moment she hits the final note and a wave of applause by dozens of people fills the night and space of a neighborhood under police siege.
The soprano is singing a song from a guitar artist called Victor Jara, he was killed by the Pinochet dictatorship (imposed by the CIA back coup). Jara was taken prisoner along with thousands of others in the Chile Stadium, where guards tortured him, smashing his hands and fingers and then told to try playing his guitar. He was then shot over 40 times and killed. The song is called “The right to live in peace”.

What age do you consider to be old? We posed that question to millennials and asked them to show us what “old” looks like. Then we introduced them to some real “old” people. Watch what happens when folks let go of their outdated beliefs and embrace the idea that aging is not about decline - it’s about growth. #DisruptAging

The peacock pansy butterflies are recognized by their striking eyespots. The fascinating butterflies are native to South Asian countries. The upperside of peacock fansy’s wings are yellowish brown in color with brown edges. There are also distinct costal bars and attractive ‘peacock eyespots’ on the wings. The eyespots on the lower part of the wings become more prominent and attractive. The patterns on underside peacock pansy’s wing’s changes with season. Unlike dry season more brightfull patterns and eyespots form on the wings in wet season. Compare to upperside the costal bars on the edges of underside of their wings are appears to be dull and less attractive.
It takes 3 – 5 days to hatch the eggs of peacock pansy. The leaves of host plant become main food of caterpillars. It also takes another 5-6 days for development as a butterfly from pupa. The adult peacock pansy has a wingspan between 54-62 mm. They mainly prefers to live in gardens and open areas.

In 1994 I adopted a baby gorilla in Africa under the "Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. I received a birth certificate and details on her group and her mother and father (known Silverback). You just apply for your support payments and automatically let them take it out of the bank, easy as that. Her picture hangs on my wall and they send you updates and newer pictures along with details. She is now a mother a couple times over.
The money goes to pay anti-poachers to try to guard against poachers but it is a dangerous job. A lot of gorilla hunters out there. Such a shame they are so magnificent an animal to be destroyed at man's will.

Journalist Gwen Ifill to be memorialized with USPS Forever stamp
The United States Postal Service has unveiled several new Forever stamps that will be issued in 2020. Among the stamp-sized works of art is a portrait of late PBS journalist Gwen Ifill.
Ifill's stamp will be a part of USPS' Black Heritage series. The esteemed journalist died in 2016 following a battle with cancer. She was 61. Throughout her career, Ifill moderated vice-presidential debates and worked for 17 years as a moderator on PBS "NewsHour." She was also managing editor of "Washington Week."
A 2008 photo of Ifill taken by photographer Robert Severi is now set to appear on a Forever stamp. "Among the first African Americans to hold prominent positions in both broadcast and print journalism, Ifill was a trailblazer in the profession," according to USPS. The Postal Service has been celebrating people, events and cultural milestones on these special stamps since 1847.
Ifill's stamp, designed by art director Derry Noyes, is the 43rd stamp in the Black Heritage series, which includes entertainer Lena Horne, civil rights activist Dorothy Height, Carter G. Woodson, who is credited as the "father of black history."
The group of 2020 Forever stamps includes an homage to Arnold Palmer, a celebration of the Lunar New Year: Year of the Rat, and a commemoration of Maine's statehood on its 200th anniversary.
There will also be four Forever stamps that celebrate different facets of hip-hop: "MCing (rapping), b-boying (breakdancing), DJing and graffiti art," according to USPS. And another stamp will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote.
While the USPS unveiled these and other stamp designs Tuesday, they did warn that the 2020 stamps "are preliminary and subject to change."

With more than 200 works by sixty Mexican and American artists, Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945 reorients art history, revealing the profound impact that the leading Mexican muralists—José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, known as "los tres grandes"—had on the course of American art. From Jackson Pollock to Jacob Lawrence to Marion Greenwood, artists in the United States were inspired by their Mexican counterparts to transform elements of national history and everyday life into epic narratives of strength and endurance.
Narrated by Cheech Marin and featuring interviews with curators Barbara Haskell and Marcela Guerrero, and artists Aliza Nisenbaum and Derek Fordjour.
Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925–1945, on view February 17–May 17, 2020.

Social distancing means that we’re all spending a lot more time at home, canceling or rescheduling vacations, and probably not going out to things like movies and museums. Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t experience a little travel, and maybe a little culture, from your home computer.
Google Arts & Culture has a collection of more the 500 different museums and galleries up on its site that you can visit virtually. Clicking through to each one will bring up images of some of the museum or gallery’s collection, and in some cases full virtual tours of the museum you can take to pretend like, in a way, you’re actually there.
You can check out the full (massive) list of included galleries and museums. The list defaults to listing some of the most popular options first, but you can also sort them in alphabetic order or look at where they all are on a map.

Do you live in a bubble?
I scored a 33.
There exists a new upper class that’s completely disconnected from the average American and American culture at large, argues Charles Murray, a libertarian political scientist and author.
Take this 25-question quiz, based on a similar one published in Murray’s 2012 book, “Coming Apart: The State of White America 1960-2010,” to find out just how thick your bubble is.
http://cache1.asset-cache.net/gc/117046654-growing-balls-of-money-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=RtzQL%2Bct6unal33wlYHv8FbNDp3dMnrVMNTepgO9glRId2 NKNqJpCFtBIa3XZUjX
Here is a sample question:
Have you ever lived for at least a year in an American neighborhood in which the majority of your 50 nearest neighbors did not have college degrees?
Make your judgment with regard to your neighborhood, not your ZIP code. Answer “no” if you are thinking of a gentrifying neighborhood in which you were one of the gentrifiers.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/do-you-live-in-a-bubble-a-quiz-2/
i scored a 59.
Fascinating. I scored a 41.
You got 68 points.
The higher your score, the thinner your bubble. The lower, the more insulated you might be from mainstream American culture.
See below for scores Charles Murray would expect you to get based on the following descriptions.
48–99: A lifelong resident of a working-class neighborhood with average television and movie going habits. Typical: 77.
I am not surprised!!! :)

42–100: A first-generation middle-class person with working-class parents and average television and movie going habits. Typical: 66.
11–80: A first-generation upper-middle-class person with middle-class parents. Typical: 33.
0–43: A second-generation (or more) upper-middle-class person who has made a point of getting out a lot. Typical: 9.

I was up before dawn as I often am but today seemed different. I watched as daylight came with no sun to speak of and I could see the huge trees across the way swaying in the breeze, slight rain coming down. I think this is one of my favorite times of day dawn and then dusk. New day when the world comes alive and dusk when all is peaceful (or should be).
I just thought what a beautiful earth we have and many have so little respect for her beauty and gifts to us.
OK I will bore you no more, just had to write this down with feeling.

And people stayed at home
And read books
And listened
And they rested
And did exercises
And made art and played
And learned new ways of being
And stopped and listened
More deeply
Someone meditated, someone prayed
Someone met their shadow
And people begin to think differently
And people healed
And in the absence of people who lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless
The Earth also began to heal
And when the danger ended
People found themselves
They grieved for the dead and made new choices
And dreamed of new visions
And created new ways of living
And completely healed the Earth
Just as they were healed

Frederick Law Olmstead is also well known for being the architect who designed Prospect Park, in Chicago, for the 1st World's Fair and is a featured character in the non-fiction account, penned by Erik Larson, Devil In The White City.
Back in the early 1980s, when I lived in NYC, I loved spending Saturday afternoons, walking around Central Park. I remember visiting this bridge structure and underground arcade area back in 1982. Back then, Central Park was very different. Lot's of people congregated in the park on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, but I also took a horse carriage ride through out the park and I won't ever forget that day or the weather (it was simply gorgeous) or the many taxi's or the many people who would walk the streets, day or night.
Bethesda Terrace is truly a remarkable architectural structure for the time in which is was constructed and a landmark of beauty.

I fixed my typo's: Olmstead is known for architectural designs in both Central Park in NYC, Prospect Park in Brooklyn and for his role in making structures in the 1st World's Fair, held in Chicago, Illinois back in 1893 (?).

The family of more than 50 jumbos emerged from the jungle and stomped across the highway in Chachoengsao province on April 9.
Spectacular footage shows how dozens of locals gathered on either side of the road to watch the placid creatures.
Several police officers also arrived to ensure the elephants made it safely to the neighbouring area of jungle.
Wildlife rangers had been tracking the elephants through the wilderness during the day then quickly blocked off the road to prevent any accidents.

Life is too short to look back on yesterdays crap. Today is a day to bring things into perspective and know what it is you want and have. At the same time when you worry about what you want there are folks out there would settle for a good meal and a warm bed and maybe a lost loved one back. We have no problems compared to these people so get out there and enjoy what time you have cause it can fly by faster than a blink and looking back with regret is a waste of time. Enjoy what you can now and go after what you want and need without dreaming about it. Times are hard but our minds and thoughts are for us alone so think and ponder and plan. I think you will be glad you did in the long run.

I am sad to hear that Little Richard one of the pioneers of Rock and Roll has passed away at 87 yrs of age. No cause has been released for his demise.
I have one of the first vinyl LPs he ever did and many others to follow. I love his music still and think he was super talented and gave much to other entertainers like The Stones (their words).
He had a list of instant hits and ran the charts for a long time. Rest in peace Richard, noone can touch your music and give it the flair that came from you.

That time LEGO hosted the world’s smallest Pride parade for children. Adults were required to be accompanied by a child to go to the parade.

With Pride festivals around the nation canceled or postponed, LGBTQ Nation is bringing the celebration to you with our new series “Flashes of Pride.” We’ll look back at some of our community’s finest moments from the past few years as a reminder that no matter what life throws our way, queer people will fight our way through it and dance when we hit the other side.
While the world celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and riots last year with huge parades and festivals, the toymaker LEGO got in on the action. Brick by brick, they made Pride kid-sized and built the world’s smallest Pride parade.
The parade featured two floats with “Pride” and “Love Is Love” themes, an oversized “Stonewall 50” billboard, and a great number of bedazzled mini people dancing in a recreation of Times Square. Adults were required to be accompanied by a child to go to the parade.
The event was held at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Westchester, New York.
Westchester wasn’t the first LEGOLAND to host a pride in its signature MINILAND build though. Birmingham’s Discovery Center in the UK had its own floats and festive figurines on the street in May of this year, even including a rainbow and heart decorated float featuring miniature versions of the Village People.

What we are hearing today, with the stunning backwards, reactionary propaganda of MF45 and his cabal, demonizing Dr. Fauci, other scientists, is really not very much different. It is the church, the cult of trump. He is dragging this country backwards only for his ego, his narcissism.
What we are witnessing is pure insanity, a suicidal death cult.

It was so amazing to see the Great Blue Heron at a nature park recently, and the afternoon I saw this beautiful bird was a pleasant surprise. I've been savoring the experience and reading about this beautiful bird.
Here is a few things I've learned, so far:
Words associated with Heron include: Autonomy, calm, detachment, keen-mindedness, individuality, gallantry, meditation, nobility, peace, serendipity, solitude, stability, steadfastness, tact, tenacity, reclusiveness, and willpower.
Some of the symbolism I've read about includes ideas, such as: This bird flies alone, does not like being in big groups, is an excellent hunter, has keen eye sight, and is an excellent observer. Patience is this bird's strong suit, so to speak.
From a scientific perspective, I found a great article online at Audubon.org.

Beauty of mastectomy tattoos revealed in powerful photo project
WARNING; Triggers
In the portrait series "Reclaim" women in diffuse pink lighting reveal delicately tattooed designs inked across their chests, unfurling over scar tissue in explosions of color or in black and gray. Nude, with nothing else in the frame, the women embody a sense of openness.
https://i.postimg.cc/fyfsbpGL/http-cdn-cnn-com-cnnnext-dam-assets-200511071451-06-kate-peters-mastectomy-tattoos-restricted.jpg
Credit: Kate Peters
The series, a collaboration between British photographer Kate Peters and art director Gem Fletcher, which began in 2018, illustrates the beauty of mastectomy tattoos, a practice that offers breast cancer survivors the opportunity to transform their skin after they've healed from their surgeries. It's a way to find new confidence, to take control of one's body after what can be a traumatic experience and, as medical journal JAMA has published, a way to promote psychological healing.
https://i.postimg.cc/CxzyyRxd/http-cdn-cnn-com-cnnnext-dam-assets-200511071333-04-kate-peters-mastectomy-tattoos-restricted.jpg
"All my tattoos do mark different milestones in my life," Elaine told Peters. "Every one is for something. My half sleeve is the story of my family: representing my children, the children we lost, my husband. (I have a) daffodil because I'm from Wales and a shamrock because my husband is from Ireland." Credit: Kate Peters
One of the women in "Reclaim" is Kerry, who was diagnosed with cancer three days before her 40th birthday. She opted for a total mastectomy of her left breast, but declined plastic surgery to reconstruct it after.
Ahead of each shoot, Peters and Fletcher interviewed the women about their experiences. "None of the methods for reconstruction that the medical team could offer me were suitable for me, my physique, my lifestyle and the sports I played," Kerry told them. "It left me with a feeling of being incomplete and I found that really upsetting. You sort of get chewed up, spat out and off you go on your own."
Two years later, when Kerry discovered mastectomy tattoos, she felt she finally had an option that suited her. She had irises tattooed across her chest as a tribute to her grandmother Iris, who survived breast cancer over six decades earlier.
The practice has risen in popularity in the US since 2013, when the program P.ink, part of the nonprofit F*** Cancer, began coordinating an annual day of gratis tattoos. Each October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they work with tattoo parlors around the country to open their doors to survivors looking to be inked.
In 2018, Peters happened upon images of mastectomy tattoos on Instagram and realized that these were mostly shared within the tattoo community and did not have a wide audience. In her home country of the UK, which does not have a coordinated program like P.ink, she wasn't sure many women knew about these tattoos at all.

"I realized I had been avoiding looking at myself in the mirror. I was averting my eyes from my chest and my scar," Diane told Peters. "I didn't realize this was an issue until I stopped doing it. Suddenly I had this beautiful piece of art. I stopped looking away." Credit: Kate Peters
Peters and Fletcher, who often collaborate, began finding women for the shoot through social media and photographed them in the privacy of Peters' home.
Many of them had never been tattooed, but going through the process had given them a sense of closure -- particularly since they had to wait at least a year to be tattooed following their surgeries -- and comfort in their skin.
"Hearing the women's stories when we were photographing them was a very humbling experience, and seeing how the tattoos had changed their perception of their own bodies," Peters said. "They were really keen to share how positive it had been for them."
There was Elaine, who was diagnosed in October of 2015 and had a bilateral mastectomy a few months later. "I can picture it now, the morning I was leaving home to have the surgery and I looked at myself in the mirror...I knew I would not look like this again after that day," she recalled to Peters and Fletcher. "It was a daunting thought, it was upsetting. When you have a mastectomy, a lot of your femininity (is) taken away."
Elaine already had tattoos -- including a dragon on her spine that she got after recovering from a horse-riding accident that could have left her unable to walk for the rest of her life. This time she spent 25 hours with Shrewsbury, England-based tattoo artist Anna Garvey to cover her chest in vivid birds and floral blossoms.
https://i.postimg.cc/c4kjcdBW/http-cdn-cnn-com-cnnnext-dam-assets-200511070939-01-kate-peters-mastectomy-tattoos-restricted.jpg
"We are so body conscious as women," Sarah told Peters. "I don't think I have ever felt this sense of ownership (over myself) and what I look like. It's only come through the process that I have been through. Credit: Kate Peters
Sarah, on the other hand, who was diagnosed at 47 during a routine mammogram, had never been inked. She chose to have her breasts reconstructed following the mastectomy. During the reconstruction surgery, women often have to have their nipples removed, and some opt for tattooed areolas later on. Sarah didn't feel like that was the right decision for her. Instead, she underwent two full-day sessions of intricate gray dotwork with East London tattooer and artist Dominique Holmes.
"The morning before (my tattoo appointment) I was in a state of panic about it, wondering if I had already put my body through so much already," she said in her interview ahead of her shoot. "I took a before shot (of myself) and I felt really okay with my mastectomy and the scarring. I thought I felt okay about my body." After her sessions, she says saw her body in a new light.
"Having the tattoo has not just changed the way my body looks -- the bigger part is how it transformed me," she explained. "I'm more body confident than I have been my entire life."
After the photos from "Reclaim" were published by The Guardian newspaper, Peters said she was inundated with emails from people who had seen the work and didn't know mastectomy tattoos were possible -- including women who had undergone surgery and were interested in it for themselves.
"I think that was one of the main motivations for the women being involved in this shoot," Peters said. "(They wanted) to show other people (how) it helped change their lives."
"All of them have been through these horrific experiences in their life yet they'd all come through it and they were all so incredibly positive," she continued. "They maintain this amazing spirit...and this desire to help others by sharing their stories."

Seems that Blacks, Jews and The Left are the threat to "traditional Americans."
A weekly Kansas newspaper whose publisher is a county Republican Party chairman posted a cartoon on its Facebook page likening the Democratic governor’s order requiring people to wear masks in public to the roundup and murder of millions of Jews during the Holocaust.
The cartoon on the Anderson County Review’s Facebook page depicts Gov. Laura Kelly wearing a mask with a Jewish Star of David on it, next to a drawing of people being loaded onto train cars. Its caption is, “Lockdown Laura says: Put on your mask … and step onto the cattle car.”
Dane Hicks, the paper’s owner and publisher, said that he plans to publish the cartoon in the newspaper’s next edition Tuesday.
Kelly, who is Catholic, issued a statement saying, “Mr. Hicks’ decision to publish anti-Semitic imagery is deeply offensive and he should remove it immediately.”
As for the cartoon’s reference to the Holocaust, Hicks said critics of President Donald Trump have compared him to Adolf Hitler, and, “I certainly have more evidence of that kind of totalitarianism in Kelly’s actions.
Hicks also is Anderson County’s GOP chairman.
Rabbi Moti Rieber, executive director of Kansas Interfaith Action, said most if not all comparisons of current political events to the Holocaust are “odious” and said it’s “incoherent” to equate an action designed to save lives with mass murder. Finally, he said, putting the Star of David on Kelly’s mask is anti-Semitic because it implies “nefarious Jews” are behind her actions.
Hicks said that if Holocaust survivors, their relatives or other Jews are offended, he would apologize to them because he means “no slight to them.”
“Then again, they better than anyone should appreciate the harbingers of governmental overreach and the present but tender seedlings of tyranny,” he added.
Hicks also derided some of his social media critics as “liberal Marxist parasites,” adding, “As a traditional American, they are my enemy.”

Biddy Mason Saved Lives. Today She May Save Art.
Once enslaved, Biddy Mason went on to a life of extraordinary accomplishments.
The fact that she figures in W.P.A. murals in San Francisco may save them from destruction.

President Donald Trump on Thursday inadvertently confirmed a key detail in the account of Stormy Daniels, the porn star who claims she had an affair with him in 2006.
“He is obsessed with sharks,” Daniels said in an interview with In Touch magazine in 2011. “Terrified of sharks. He was like, ‘I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all the sharks die.’”
On Thursday, Trump made very similar comments while speaking to supporters in Pennsylvania as he went off on a tangent.
“I’m not a big fan of sharks,” he said. “I have people calling me up, ‘Sir, we have a fund to save the shark, it’s called Save The Shark.’ I say ’no thank you, I have other things I can contribute to.”

It sounds like kind of a pesto sauce - but yeah, even so, that's a _lot_ of oil.

"Everyone knows that Tom Cruise likes to do his own stunts, but one could forgive him if he chose not to dangle 1,700 feet in the air on the side of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa skyscraper - the world's tallest building - during the filming of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
Yet dangle he did, 123 stories up, attached only to a single wire. When director Brad Bird thought for a moment about the predicament he had put one of the world’s biggest movie stars in, he admitted to thinking, “What the hell are we doing?”
