As cubs a lion, a tiger, and a bear had been owned by a drug dealer who did not properly care for them.
The bear’s harness grew into his skin because the owner did not alter it as the animal grew. They had been abused and neglected early in life, but were finally rescued. The bear's harness was surgically removed.

After they had been taken in by an animal sanctuary in Georgia, the staff tried to separate them due to obvious concerns that the three large predators would fight.
During the trial of separation, the animals were uncooperative and behaved poorly. Once reunited, the three calmed down and were well behaved.

Twelve years later, the three friends spend their days playing, cuddling, and eating together. There are no plans to separate these lifelong friends.

Studies suggest that under high enough pressures methane can form into diamond.
Although such conditions do not occur on Earth, the theory has been tested under artificial conditions and found to be true.
If this occurs on Neptune and Uranus, which have strong pressures and large amounts of free methane, then it would cause diamonds to rain down through the atmosphere towards their cores.
This would also account for unusual heat signatures emitted by these planets.

An Ocean in the Sky

Clouds tend to be relatively flat or slightly curved on the bottom.
Well, asperatus clouds aren’t like most clouds.
Also known as undulatus asperatus clouds, which translates roughly to turbulent waves,
these hovering masses of water particles oftentimes seem to reach down towards the ground with dramatic and seemingly artistic waves and curls.

Recently named in 2009 for their wavy undersides, asperatus clouds are mysterious by nature.
Since they are seen so rarely, that their origins remain somewhat of an unknown and they are the first new clouds to be named since 1951.

Pockets of water discovered deep in a Canadian mine may be 1.5 - 2.5 billion years old.
Researchers from the universities of Manchester and Toronto have collected samples of water trapped in bedrock in a Timmins, Ontario copper and zinc mine, about 350 miles north of Toronto.
The water was trapped in the rock at a depth of 2.4 kilometers.
The rocks in and around the mine were created from a large hydrothermal vent system on an ancient sea floor around 2.7 billion years ago.

The research team is next studying the water to determine if any microbes are present.
The water has been far removed from any light source, but it is rich in hydrogen and methane, which could sustain some particular micro-organisms.

Make your own Ranch, Dry Onion Soup Mix and Taco Seasoning and store in small mason jars :)

Taco Seasoning:
1/2 cup chili powder
1/4 cup onion powder
... 1/8 cup ground cumin
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon sea salt
Put ingredients into a jar and shake.

Dry Onion Soup Mix:
2/3 cup dried, minced onion
3 teaspoons parsley flakes
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

Mix all ingredients in a jar, then give the jar a good shake. I’d recommend shaking the jar to mix the ingredients well before each use.
Use 4 tablespoons in a recipe in place of 1 packet of onion soup mix. Store this in a dry, cool place.

Ranch:
5 tablespoons dried minced onions
7 teaspoons parsley flakes
4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Mix together and store in an air tight container.
For dressing: Mix 2 tablespoons dry mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk or sour cream.
For dip: Mix 2 tablespoons dry mix with 2 cups sour cream.
Mix up a few hours before serving, so the flavors all blend.

You could paint the lids with black board paint and chalk what the mix is and then rub it out when used and start again.

These deadly icicles are known by many infamous names such as the “brinicles of death” or the more commonly known name “icicle of death”.
Such names were given to describe its unforgiving “touch of death” to the sea creatures below. It also resembles a layered or swirled piped look that extends below the layer of sea ice.
A BBC film crew was able to shoot the development of these layers of sheath of ice, while shooting Frozen Planet (if you haven't seen it, it's awesome!)

As a type of icicle called Ice Stalactite or also known as brinicles.

The brinicles can develop all the way to the sea floor (as seen in the photo) and it forms a web-like ice among the sea floor.
As it touches the living sea creatures below, it introduces a slow and freezing death.
The BBC film crew successfully displayed this powerful and unique development and imminent event.

A special thanks to gays in the military who served and died while being told/forced to hide who they were and who they loved because their desire to protect the common good outweighed any one individual's needs. Carpenter Richard van As made his own digits after losing his fingers in an accident. Now he's helping kids by 3D-printing prosthetics and running an Indiegogo campaign.

People who have lost fingers can try to get robotic hands that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Or they can try to 3D-print their own hand.
That's what Richard van As did after a woodworking accident in 2011 cost him four fingers.
The South African carpenter decided to build his own fingers from hardware store parts but eventually turned to 3D printing.
Using a MakerBot Replicator 2 printer, he collaborated with Ivan Owen to create a prosthetic finger after much trial and error.
They've since printed hands for four South African children who lack fingers.

I just read an article online where a 3 year old deaf child was told by his preschool that the sign he uses for his name is not allowed because it looks too much like a gun. So, they want him to change his name sign. Are you serious? I'd like to say to those people "ok, we won't call you by your given name anymore, we'll just call you dumbass from now on because your name offends me". What has the world come to?

Michael Douglas announced today his throat cancer was caused by the HPV virus and cunnilingus.

I knew about HPV and cervical cancer but not this. From the NCI:


HPVs, also called human papillomaviruses, are a group of more than 150 related viruses. More than 40 of these viruses can be easily spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during vaginal, anal, and oral sex (1).

HPV infections are the most common sexually transmitted infections in the United States. In fact, more than half of sexually active people are infected with one or more HPV types at some point in their lives. Recent research indicates that, at any point in time, 42.5 percent of women have genital HPV infections, whereas less than 7 percent of adults have oral HPV infections (2, 3).

Sexually transmitted HPVs fall into two categories:

Low-risk HPVs, which do not cause cancer but can cause skin warts (technically known as condylomata acuminata) on or around the genitals or anus. For example, HPV types 6 and 11 cause 90 percent of all genital warts.
High-risk or oncogenic HPVs, which can cause cancer. At least a dozen high-risk HPV types have been identified. Two of these, HPV types 16 and 18, are responsible for the majority of HPV-caused cancers.


High-risk HPV infection accounts for approximately 5 percent of all cancers worldwide (4). However, most high-risk HPV infections occur without any symptoms, go away within 1 to 2 years, and do not cause cancer. These transient infections may cause cytologic abnormalities, or abnormal cell changes, that go away on their own.

Some HPV infections, however, can persist for many years. Persistent infections with high-risk HPV types can lead to more serious cytologic abnormalities or lesions that, if untreated, may progress to cancer.


Virtually all cervical cancers are caused by HPV infections, with just two HPV types, 16 and 18, responsible for about 70 percent of all cases (5, 6). HPV also causes anal cancer, with about 85 percent of all cases caused by HPV-16. HPV types 16 and 18 have also been found to cause close to half of vaginal, vulvar, and penile cancers (7).

Most recently, HPV infections have been found to cause cancer of the oropharynx, which is the middle part of the throat including the soft palate, the base of the tongue, and the tonsils. In the United States, more than half of the cancers diagnosed in the oropharynx are linked to HPV-16 (8).

The incidence of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer has increased during the past 20 years, especially among men. It has been estimated that, by 2020, HPV will cause more oropharyngeal cancers than cervical cancers in the United States (9).
